Dean in a nutshell.

This is a very fun episode. You can only pull the thEy WeRE dEaD tHe WhOLe tiME card once, but it was well played. I had even forgetten the twist, so it got me again. And another Winchester boy saving a small child from drowning. It wasn't fair that just Dean got a turn from 1x03.

Lots of shining references. Twin girls, room 237, talking to the bartender. We love to see it.

2x10 Hunted

I absolutely adore Ava. I think she’s one of the first really grounded and fun women introduced. Yeah yeah I know shit happens later, but right now? I love her, she’s quirky, she’s smart, she’s not a romantic interest. Also her car is so compact and adorable and blue

Another weird winchester boys code word to add to the dictionary, “Funky Town” to warn there’s a gun on me. 1980′s song, fucking slaps. We also got first motel in the yellow pages under Jim Rockford for a go to meeting place. “Poughkeepsie” is way later, but I’d love the lore y’know.

Gordon sucks, but we already knew that. Though I’d take a bullet over the cops easy. ACAB bitches.

2x09 Croatoan

Great bit of Dean and Sarge just having the exact same suspicious energy. I tried to gif my favorite part, but they’re yelling at each other so quickly it didn’t translate formats well.

But the slow-mo in this episode. 

Oh. My. God.

It’s almost unbearable to watch. I’m not tech-savvy enough to say what exactly makes it so terrible, but it looks like absolute shit. I can’t even be nice about it. It’s just that bad.

Quick history lesson for our white-washed history books. The Roanoke Colony did not disappear off of the face of the earth. They probably just assimilated into a nearby Native American tribe, likely the now Hatteras tribe who lived in CROATOAN.

2x08 Crossroad Blues

I can’t believe I never realized Robert Johnson was a real person. I suddenly got curious in the middle of the episode and found out that they’re talking about an actual person. And then I randomly clicked on Wendigoon’s video essay on him later that day. So that was a weird coincidence. 

But what a cool person! Supernatural really drew from his vibe. 

Also Dean is so angry at his Dad for making that deal, that he projects it on everyone else who made deals. So this episode is just Dean slowly dismantling those judgements on everyone, and then almost making a deal himself. 

*sigh*

Sometimes I cringe a little on how infatuated I am with Supernatural. It feels like I should be embarrassed or shameful for hyperfixating on things. And thats dumb and I don’t want to think that, just let me enjoy my junk food oh god please i hope i’m not embarrassing myself

2x06 No Exit

I love this interaction, because of how quickly Dean backs off. Like Dean may be constantly horny, but he hears “no” loud and clear. He is an absolute slut, but he only likes enthusiastic consent. And hey that’s what matters.

Also more Jo, she’s smart, she’s thriving, she’s doing her thing. Ellen’s valid in all her feelings, but hey baby’s gotta leave the nest.

ALSO I totally forgot this ghost was H.H. Holmes! As a true crime enthusiast, the Murder Castle, is some creative horror there. Didn’t love the scene where he’s grabbing at Jo for just a little too long. Look, there’s so much violence towards women in real life, I don’t enjoy seeing it in media at all. It’s not fun.

2x05 Simon Said

 ngl Andy was pretty sick. There’s a small bit that’s kind of douchey to just make people give you stuff all the time. But they were all so small and simple, and he really was just vibing. 

Also great way to force Dean to actually open up about his worries, cause no way he’s doing that willingly.

2x04 Children Shouldn’t Play With Dead Things

Reminder that this dude literally never figured out what they were talking about. Like these random guys showed up ranting about his daughter being a zombie and then disappear and that’s the LAST HE HEARS OF IT. Like never even learned his daughter became one. I dunno I think that’s oddly hilarious. 

Eww and the absolute creep this episode. How incredibly violating to have some random incel bring your corpse back to life to play pretend girlfriend. Ya nasty.

And I’ll always appreciate a dramatic stop by the side of the road for some emotional angst.

Girls, guys, and gays, introducing Gordon Walker the scummiest scum. 

You know what really gets me this episode, is at the end, Dean brings up how there may be a lot more grey area than he realized, and their Dad might’ve made a mistake in unilaterally hating all “monsters”. 

Great point right? Season 2 episode 3.

Like good god let him mature past this point. The whole “Jack is Lucifer’s son, so there’s no changing him, he’s born bad”, like dude. It’s been over a decade. Let him grow as an individual already. (which aside wtf is sam’s problem with Benny, you’ve ALWAYS had a more open stance to supernatural morality. You’re telling me Sam did a fucking 180 on vampires for like 1 season and then switched back? WHY? so contrived. I hate season 8 so much)

2x02 Everybody Loves a Clown

Oh poor sweet boy. 

I really appreciate this season’s BM (boy melodrama) scenes. Maybe because it’s just so early on, but the grief and daddy issues, plus Sam’s demon blood just makes for some great angsty conversations. 

And Ellen and Jo are here! Whooo! Ellen is an absolutely mommy, I love her so much. And y’know I’m realizing the 2nd...3rd...4th time around that I think I was unnecessarily disdainful of Jo in the past. Like literally everyone is hot and edgy in supernatural, it’s not her fault. I’m so so very relieved I’m past the “i’m not like other girls” phase. 

But great episode, new characters, clowns are scary, and much Dad grieving.

2x01 In My Time of Dying

WOOT WOOT SEASON 2 BABY HERE WE GOOOO

Okay so John’s big sacrifice. Lots of mixed feelings here.

Pro: I like Dean and I don’t like John.

Con: Way to go giving Dean a deep guilt complex.

Pro: If he thought Sith Sam was a real possibility, it’s better that Sam would have Dean over John. Like I can’t think of a better way to rocket Sam into the dark side then by having Dean die and Sam blame John for it.

Con: Why the fuck would you tell Dean that shit. Oh I’m so sorry I put too much on your shoulders....sooo you might have to kill your brother.

Pro: He apologizes and okay okay that whole scene might’ve brought a few tears to my eyes. 

Con: Why didn’t MY parents APOLOGIZE to ME. I think it was the best move to kill John off so soon. I still would’ve wanted more growing up backstory, but the familial tension would’ve gotten old fast.
