riffraff went to go enjoy his treat privately 🥹 i love that the babies consider the pumpkin seeds to be very precious but if we try that with the adults they walk the hell away from us 😂

pumpkin and pumpkin seeds can be lethal to young or compromised squirrels — like those with physical or neurological disabilities. it is low in calcium and can cause fatal dehydration and diarrhea. like peanuts and sunflower seeds, it is best given in moderation or not at all.

our squirrels are wild, constantly active, and have a varied diet outside of the treats we share with them. when we put out pumpkin seeds, it is mixed with chopped almonds and walnuts to prevent binging.

we’ve been advised by licensed rehabbers on how to keep our animals happy and healthy! riffraff and the other babies can enjoy their pumpkin seeds and treats safely 🤎

ahhh chuchi trusts us now! doesn’t he look so much like his mama?! he was the last of muchi’s three babies to leave the nest and explore with his siblings. he’s also noticeably smaller than the other two which might mean he either had to compete with puchi and scoochi for milk, or muchi adopted him 🥹 squirrel adoptions are really common! welcome chuchi!!

oh little yo!!! it’s been one year since we met yogurt! she came to us at around three months old, so she’s probably 15 months old now 🥹

the trip around the sun definitely wasn’t easy with her neuro issues flaring up while she was still so young. we tried really hard to trap her to get her to a rehabber but in the end decided that the risk of frightening her was too big. we supported her by driving away predators and aggressive squirrels and offering her fresh fruits and veggies, water, coconut oil, meds, and supplements to make sure she would keep her energy and weight up.

she got to a point where she needed to lie down on her side in order to eat or drink because she’d lose her balance. that was so scary. she was still so small and being unbalanced left her open to predators or other aggressive squirrels. i don’t know how much it helped or if she would’ve been fine without our intervention, but i hope the extra nutrients and love helped her survive!

now she’s a grown squirrel who still tilts to her right but if you didn’t know about her neuro issues you’d never notice! i’m so so so proud of her! when i see her make jumps that she used to struggle with my heart feels so full 🥹 i love that she’s consistently visited us on especially hard days, and that she’ll take meds and supplements without complaint. she even lets us hand feed her now!

i hope she stays for another year full of treats, love, and a place to take a well deserved rest 🤎

muchi says hey! look at my pretty new coat! ✨

she had fleas on her that were making her scratch herself raw — it was rough to see 😔 we intervened with revolution and the fleas fell off within the day! also took care of the little demons in her nest too 🤎

she was so miserable and grumpy but as soon as the bugs were gone all of her energy was back! it took her about a month to get her fur all filled in — we helped a little with coconut oil. she’s so happy now!!! ☀️

meet riffraff!! he’s a little mischief maker 🤎 he arrived alone and he looks about three or four months old which is around the age squirrels start exploring and becoming independent. i haven’t seen any siblings or his mama around which isn’t weird but we usually do see at least one other family member when a baby arrives. they might still be gathering the courage to follow their brother! so far he loves play fighting with muchi’s babies and being sleepy 🌙
