A computer science student named Priyanjali Gupta, studying in her third year at Vellore Institute of Technology, has developed an AI-based model that can translate sign language into English.

This problem is nothing new, but this specific example with these numbers puts it into a fucking brutal perspective.

To put these numbers a different way: A Taco Bell burrito that used to cost ~7 minutes and 20 seconds of minimum wage work now costs ~30 minutes and 30 seconds of minimum wage work.

You used to be able to work at Taco Bell anywhere in the country and make enough money in one hour to buy at least 8 burritos (maybe 9 if you're a manager or something) and feed, like, 3-4 people a decently-filling meal. But now, the same amount of work at the same job will get you one meal for one person. And this change has happened over a mere 15 years.

Remember this whenever you see rich people demonize younger generations for our financial situations, when they call us irresponsible for not investing a ton of money in savings accounts.

30.04.2024 // autumnal palette.

I have been trying to wake up early so that I can get on early start on the day. But I end up self-sabotaging. Last night, I stayed up till 4AM binge-watching Lovely Runner, all the while knowing that I've to wake up for a 10AM meeting. I shall try again tomorrow.

I continue to be on a quest to make this desk my own, even though I have to move to another workspace next year. A friend got me a cute mooshroom flip toy and I've decided to use it as a mood indicator — red mooshroom for positive moods, brown mooshroom for negative moods.

as far as thesis is concerned, I'm making some progress, I suppose. Currently, I'm reading about feminist archives and archiving practice, and some affect theory on the side. I am also creating a Dublin Core Metadata Element Set for one of the digital archives that will be my 'case study'. This is pure grind and I usually do it when I'm hanging out with friends after dinner.

My brain is my own enemy because it is unable to focus on one task and then I end up not doing anything. Okay, that is not true. I am doing things but it feels like I am not >.<

I thought I’d try mindmaps for my quantum review like for stars yesterday and it’s hopefully helping it stick as well as making it less painful, haha. It’s sinking in that I only have a few weeks of 2nd year left - after the quantum exam the week after next, I’ve got a few days till stats and a few days between that and stars, then I’m done!
