Why is it offensive to want to just be friends? Why is it expected for romantic partners to always take prioritization over friends? Why is it rude to tell someone you aren't friends, just chill with each other? Why are queerplatonic relationships seen as a step down from romantic relationships? Why is it bad to not want to make step ups in romantic relationships?

I've found that filtering out PJO and HOO brings up a lot of actually TOA-centric fics (but then some people use characters like Hazel and tag every series they appear in, so you do lose some fics)

Criteria for deciding whether a Riordanverse fic is TOA-centric

So there's a decent number of fics in the "Trials of Apollo" tag on AO3, but honestly the majority of them don't really feel like TOA fics, they often seem to be more centered around PJO or HOO, which can be disheartening for people like me who're fans of Trials of Apollo. That got me thinking about what factors I look at to determine whether a fic is TOA-centric or not, this is what I came up with!

If the fic could be written with no knowledge of TOA's plot, then it ain't a TOA fic.

Stuff written based on say, a synopsis released before the series came out, is in a bit of a grey area. But fics where the only relation to TOA is that the fic takes place after HOO? Yeah those don't count.

2. If the fic's only relevance to TOA is a couple of lines mentioning things that happened in the series, but otherwise the characterizations, characters introduced in TOA, and overall storyline is irrelevant, then it's not really a TOA fic.

This covers most Solangelo and Perpollo fics. Granted, there's major grey area on Solangelo especially, because well, where exactly DO you place it?

As for Perpollo... most of the ones I've looked at seem to be operating off of characterizations that sprung up in the Riordanverse fandom from PJO and HOO, rather than TOA.

There are also fics tagged with several Riordanverse series where say, TOA-specific characters interact with characters from other series and even timelines (like in some reading the books fics). Those are generally legit for tagging TOA, though it's not exactly TOA-centric.

But yeah sadly, the majority of TOA fics don't really feel like actual TOA fics. Generally you have to exclude Solangelo and Perpollo to find it. Or you filter it so that only fics that include Meg in the character tags show up, most TOA-centric fics have her appear, while she almost never shows up in non-TOA fics, since she hasn't been in any other series as of yet.
