A family moved in down the street last month. This sounds normal, but they're suspiciously close to one in a story I'm writing. I made a character last year with the exact family. Did I somehow predict this family's arrival, or have there been any past cases of peoples' fictional creations coming to life?
We call this "parafictional" manifestation, and you can learn more by clicking on the parafiction tag my intern Jenny will append to this post. The short version is that this does happen but we have to be careful. The vast majority of the times this happens, especially with a fictional property only one person know about (like this personal project you have) these aren't truly self-aware entities that have manifested - these are lures.
Some entities like Outsider behavior patterns feed on the human capacity for creativity (has a lot to do with emotions involved with creative expression being particularly attractive to psychophagics) and to harvest that, they'll exploit your own thoughts and creations. Either to feed on you psychically, or literally.
Be careful. You obviously don't want to assume these new neighbors are automatically harmful in this way - it could just be a big coincidence - but there's a few things you can do.
Ask another creative neighbor about them. These things will be a mirror, typically. They'll reflect what the viewer already has in mind. You might see these folks as Mr and Mrs Smith from your book, but your neighbor might see them as Mr and Mrs Takahashi from the manga he's working on.
You could also very gently ask them some nonsense questions. If this is a lure, it'll also be a "chinese room" - an entity that is able to mimic human conversations simply by examining textual data en masse and regurgitating what the response is likely or expected to be without actually understanding it. You might feel silly, but try asking a nonsense question, like if the sky feels glarble or if nods yon today. If they just raise an eyebrow, green flag. If they try and respond without breaking stride, red flag.
If you get a couple red flags that way, send us another message. We'll send someone out.

Hello! It's been one year since I posted the first page of c2censuscomic (name...still pending) and since then ive made... 7 pages total. That being said! I'm proud of the pages I've made! It feels great to see a finished page after hours of drafting, linework, coloring etc. and I could see myself improving with each page. However, I started this comic very impulsively with a skeleton of an idea with very little direction. Every new page I had a new idea for the story going forward, which made me want to completely change pages that I had already posted. I still don't have a real draft for the story, so: I'm going to step back for awhile until I do.
When I begin posting this comic again, the updates will likely be larger and have more complete arcs so I can confidently go back and change stuff if I need to. That is, when I have the time to write out and draw a full color comic. Which will probably not be for awhile. Because I am entering my second year at college and I'll be pretty busy focusing on my studies.
But! I'm not going to stop drawing starbound oc comics! I'm just going to change my approach. While the story of the C2 Census is wildly incomplete, there are many more stories to be told with Thierri's Crew in more shortform, limited palette comics. And if all goes well I'm tentatively planning on starting up an askblog around December! I'm hoping that by making more regular comics and limiting the time I spend on them, I can improve my time management and speed/ease when making other comics.
Anyways! Thank you to everyone who has enjoyed c2census comic and thank you for your patience. See ya!

he really shouldn't be doing this, dream thinks as he leads aimsey over the treetops to a safer location. it really shouldn't matter that the image of sapnap ruthlessly slaughtering an unarmed innocent sticks in his mind like a splinter. it certainly shouldn't matter that they'd insisted on brewing him a coffee as thanks for his help. he hates coffee. none of this should matter at all, especially not in the grand scheme of things...
he's so lost in thought that it takes him a while to realize that aimsey has stopped dead in their tracks about a hundred feet behind him.
with an annoyed huff, dream backtracks. "we should keep moving if we wanna get to a portal before nighttime."
aimsey doesn't bother to acknowledge his words, instead gesturing with excitement towards the horizon. "look, the sun is setting!"
he frowns. "yeah, which is why we need to--"
"nah, ah, ah!" aimsey interrupts, continuing to gaze westward with a smile. "we're stopping right here. come on, never waste a sunset!"
"what?"
"you heard me! we can get going in a bit, just watch until the sun goes down, yeah?"
dream bristles and mutters, "this is stupid," but it's clear that aimsey is not going to budge, so he stands beside them and fidgets impatiently as together they watch the sun slowly sink beneath the horizon.
....it is a nice sunset.

When do you think we'll get news on volume 9 and how long do you think the volume will be I remember someone telling me that volume 9 was going to be 10 episodes but I think that's just the rumor
I'm a month late on this ask, sorry! I would've said we'd get it at RTX, since that's a big event and people would be compelled to buy tickets and attend so as to be among the first to know. But here we are a month later and yup! They're gonna reveal it at RTX, surprise, surprise XD
As for the length, I've heard from several people (and one of the writers iirc?) that it'll be a short volume with fewer episodes, but I don't remember the actual number.

So you think you’ll do any more Rina fanfics? Please say yes please, I love them so much and your writing is so beautiful!
this is so so so kind 💛💛💛 thank you so much!!!!
and oof. that's a good question!! i haven't, like, made a specific decision, i guess? it's hard for me to keep the motivation to write when shows are over. but on the other hand, so much of the future was left open-ended after the finale, and i love ricky and gina with my whole entire heart. I'd say a multi-chap is likely out of the question just because my motivation isn't going to stay consistent, but a one-shot or two is certainly possible. it depends if inspiration strikes or not!
