the common bond between the inner circle members is that the moment they learn the truth about salem and her immortality, their flaws take the center stage.
it happened with lionheart. it happened with qrow. and it happened with ironwood.
ozpin told his version of the truth to team strq and afterwards, raven went looking for more because she needed to know what else there was, and with each discovery, the more terrifying the world became.
raven was raised by bandits who send her to beacon to learn how to kill huntsmen. likely due to her upbringing, her survival instinct is strong, and she'll do anything, things others won't, to do so.
let's say the "we" raven talks about re: finding the spring maiden is the inner circle, and use that to paint a picture. say, that all these three things happened around the same time, let's say within a year:
raven learns the truth about salem after looking for information on her own
raven trains the spring maiden ["she... ran. abandoned her training, everyone."] ["and later, one of them chose to abandon her duties in favor of her own self-interest."] ["no matter how much training i put her through, she never learned!"]
yang is born
maybe raven didn't leave immediately after learning the truth. maybe it took a little bit longer, sticking around for one reason or another, be it yang or training the spring maiden or both, but the thought that salem is immortal being with powerful magic won't leave her mind.
and here she is, training the spring maiden who, in her mind, wasn't cut out for this world. who was weak and, as per the bandit tribe that raised her, the weak die, the strong live. those were the rules they lived by.
the world is a terrifying place; salem is terrifying, and at this point raven sees no way following ozpin doesn't end in early trip to the grave. unless... well
salem might be powerful, but the maidens are pretty powerful too. and there, in front of her, is a spring maiden who just won't learn, who's basically useless in terms of using the powers she has.
["you turned yourself into a monster, just for power." "look who's talking."]
raven wants to survive. she'll do anything to survive, and old habits die hard; she was raised by bandits—the weak die, the strong live; and raven can't be weak—, sent to beacon to learn how to kill huntsmen.
and just like with the other members of the inner circle once they learn about salem's immortality, raven's flaws come forth like a wrecking ball, and she backslides into the person she perhaps once when she first arrived at beacon.
and it horrifies her, because she had changed, and now all those years have gone to waste. she has a family, a baby, and now she feels like she can't do that anymore, can't have that life anymore, too afraid of what she might do if she stays... and so, she leaves.
with how raven has been described as complicated and troubled, i seriously doubt her reasons behind leaving were simple, and i think something akin to above fits the bill pretty well.

"You have... silver eyes."
Thinking about Team STRQ, about how Ozpin never knew Ruby had silver eyes.
About how Summer Rose, his frontline agent of choice, gambled her life on ending the conflict before her daughter could see it with doomed eyes.
About how Qrow, Ozpin's most unflinchingly loyal soldier, who saw the horrors Salem was brewing, never breathed a word of it to him.
About how Taiyang glared his brother-in-law down when Qrow went to tell her the truth about her eyes.
About how Raven stalked and betrayed their family in her own twisted love but never betrayed that secret.
About how Ozpin walked into a conference room one day and looked into silver eyes and four different pairs of eyes said back: 'Our love to her trumps our duty to you.'
About how this family of choice, defined by loss, all looked at each other, and said, 'Not our girl. We will not let this be her burden.' About how the result was all for nothing because it became hers anyway.
Thinking about Ruby Rose, a Huntress of Atlas, who chose love over duty without a second thought and saved two cities' worth of people for it. About how sometimes, the choice is far more impactful than the result.

???: Hello? Who are you?
Ruby: I ... My Name's Ruby.
???: That's a lovely Name, you share it with my younger daughter. Where are you?
Ruby: I- I- ... You sound familiar ...
Summer: *Walking into view* What do you-
Ruby: ... Mom?
Summer: RUBY?!?!
Ruby: *Tearing up* MOM!
Summer: *Also Crying* RUBY!
They rush together, holding each other close, hugging so tight it had to be painful.
Summer: How- Why Are you here? You shouldn't- I-
Ruby: Mom, I'm sorry- I'm sorry- I did my best-
Summer: Ruby, Take a Breathe, and if anyone should be apologizing it's me. What Happened? Why are you here?
Ruby: I- I followed my dream of becoming a Huntress- I got into Beacon Early-
Summer: You What?
Ruby: I .. Got into Beacon ... Early?
Summer: Do you know what Ozpin's Deal is?
Ruby: I know that The Maidens and the Girl in The Tower are real. That and The Girl that fell through the world.
Summer: *Pinching her nose, clearly upset and worried* Okay. Is that why you're here.
Ruby: We- we were getting the Staff of Creation while Salem was actively attacking Atlas, and we made a path to Vacuo.
Ruby: Me, Yang, and our Teammates - and a Friend - Fell off the Path into the Ever After.
Summer: ... So the Jabberwocker got you?
Ruby: N-No ... Someone we fought along the way wanted me dead so ... she made me give Up. I drank her tea, which had a leaf in it- I-
Summer: You weren't killed?
Ruby: .. Not ... I ...
Ruby: *Crying again* I- I decided not to be me anymore ...
Summer: *Holding her cheek, also crying again* Oh, Ruby, I'm sorry, I'm so, so sorry you got caught up in all this. I'm sorry I couldn't stop Salem for you- I tried, and I'm sorry I failed. I'm sorry you chose to end your life ... But ... You haven't. Not yet.
Ruby: What do you mean?
Summer: You ... Aren't dead. You're ascending. Somewhere between Life and Death. You can still live.
Ruby: How? After every way I failed everyone-
Ruby: I made Atlas Fall! I Watched a Friend Die right in front of me Because I wasn't fast enough! Another friend sacrificed herself to save others, and She'd already Died once! Hell! My best friend since Day one got stuck here for half his lifetime, and now probably hates me!
Ruby: I've Gotten people Killed Mom! What good are Silver Eyes if I'm not good enough to save people without them!
Summer: ... Ruby. Did your plans fail because they were bad or because people got in the way of them? Have people died because you got them killed or because you were exhausted and got blindsided?
Summer: I don't know how old you are, but I'm guessing you can't drink yet, given how long I think it's been.
Summer: You're young. Just over half my age at most.
Summer: You got your hands on a Relic?
Ruby: On the Lamp and the Staff, but Salem stole them back, and she's got a maiden on her side.
Summer: Ruby, I never even saw the Relics. I never met a Maiden. I was born into a quiet life, and disappeared, with the amount of people knowing where I was able to be counted a hand that's lost three fingers.
Summer: You have gone so far and beyond what I did. I- I don't know that full story, obviously, but it feels like you're putting all the blame on yourself. You're amazing. You're strong, and smart, and kind.
Summer: Ruby Ginosa Rose. You are my Daughter, and I love you. I don't know what you have to do, but please, please don't let go of yourself completely just yet.
Ruby: ...
Summer: I can only imagine how hard it's been on you, But I trust you to pull through. You've gotten help if you've got a team at your back. Even if you don't, someone else will. Try and find the people that would keep walking after you fall and try to team up with them. you'll make even bigger strides together.
Ruby: ... Thanks Mom. I ... I needed to hear that. Thank you.
Summer: ...
Ruby: ... Yang's got a girlfriend!
Summer: That's great to know Ruby, But I think it's time for you to head back out.
Ruby: *Beginning to fade from this place* Yeah, YEah! I can do this, The world can do this! Thanks Mom! Love you!
Summer: I love you too rosebud, and Tell Yang I miss and Love her a lot too!
Ruby: *Continuing to fade*
Summer: Oh and one more thing!
Ruby: *Almost gone to the Blacksmith* Hmm?
Summer: If I see you within the next Fifty Years You are grounded Missy!
Ruby: *Fully disappearing* You got it Mom-

Top 5 reasons I love RoseGarden
1. They help each other grow as people - Ruby and Oscar have really just helped each other flower into being the people they truly are meant to be. Oscar has became who he is due to support from the others, most commonly being Ruby. Meanwhile Ruby has became more of who she truly is with Oscar’s help in more subtle ways. With Oscar, she clearly has someone she wants to constantly look out for and make sure that he’s doing okay no matter what. Showing just how loyal and true of a friend she is to others, and how great of a protector she can be.
Tumblr media
2. They’re incredibly supportive of one another - The two of them have done everything they possibly can to show how much they really support one another. Ruby was there to support Oscar when no one else really did all the way back in Volume 5. Then in Volume 6 she continued to express support for him and was the only person to remind him he was his own person. Later on in Volume 6, Oscar openly supported Ruby, letting her know he knew her plan would work. Then in Volume 7, they supported what each other chose to do and didn’t do anything rash until they came upon the agreement to be honest with Ironwood. Finally in Volume 8, Ruby expressed support for Oscar despite him seeing himself as a failure after not being able to convince Ironwood to listen to him. Then there’s also how the two of them have a habit of looking out for one another and being pretty commonly concerned for each other. Ruby’s concern for Oscar in V6, Oscar yelling out Ruby’s name multiple times, Ruby being the one to go out and look for Oscar in V8, and even in V9 Ruby showed concern for Oscar’s well being both in the first episode- and the other scene, no major spoilers here but we all know the one.
Tumblr media
3. The amount of parallels is INSANE - Okay so, I’ll try my best to not spoil things as well as I possibly can. But oh my God the amount of parallels these two have is so freaking cute and really makes you think. Oscar in V7 & V8 foreshadowed so much that Ruby’s actions would mirror in V9. But even more than that, the two of them parallel other canon ships in the world like Summer/Tai and Ozma/Salem to a degree. They even have the whole Sun/Moon and Red/Green thing going on, not to mention Oscar only started wearing Red after he met Ruby and it’s been pretty much confirmed that people in Remnant will wear the colors of their partners/love interests. Then there’s even ones that have yet to get the proper payoff. Like- Oscar and Ruby FINALLY hugging, let’s hope that finally happens in V10.
Tumblr media
4. The idea they found each other at the right time - They seemed to have found each other right when the other needed someone to help lift them up. Oscar had just been randomly chosen to be Ozpin’s next host and the information clearly weighed super heavily on him, and Ruby’s kind words clearly helped him feel so much better. Meanwhile, for Ruby, she had just lost a ton after all that happened at Beacon- so her having a new friend and someone who really trusts and believes her no matter what, it had to be helpful and make her feel like she’s really doing the right thing.
Tumblr media
5. It’s too adorable to not love - This is the simplest reason, but they’re just two little dorks and it’s beautiful. The one reason that’s really not complex at all. I just love them.

I find it deeply amusing that the show keeps going on about how Salem divides people and that's how she wins, even though she hasn't actually directly or successfully divided the heroes since V5 with Leo. Don't get me wrong, she tried to do this in V7 by having Tyrian and Watts frame Ironwood, but that attempt failed and both of her agents got arrested.
Every single time the heroes have turned on each other since V6 has been entirely of their own volition without any direct involvement on Salem's part.
RWBY chose to use the lamp on their own, and then they chose to ostracize Oz because of what they learned on their own. Neither Salem or her agents convinced them to use the lamp by suggesting that Ozpin was hiding something from them. Nobody twisted the information they learned to convince them the situation was hopeless and make them angrier at Ozpin.
Same with V7. No, I don't count Cinder leaving the chess piece on Ironwood's desk, because that ultimately wasn't the source of the fallout. It's not like Ironwood became paranoid that Salem's agents were still in Atlas and then thought Team RWBY was actually in league with her (despite that being a route they could have easily gone with, especially since RWBY was keeping secrets like the lamp, Ozpin, and telling Robyn about Amity a secret from him). No, the fallout with Ironwood had nothing to do with trust or paranoia. It was entirely a disagreement about if they should retreat or fight. There was no manipulation on the part of Salem's faction, all she did was ride up in her Gigantamax Wailord and the heroes turned on each other.
And this still could have worked. You just need to reframe it from "Salem divides people in order to win" to "The fallible nature of humanity causes us to fight amongst ourselves when we should instead come together in the face of disaster". But nope, instead, every time the heroes fight they go "This is what Salem wants" and "We can't let her divide us", even though Salem hasn't divided diddly-squat.

Unpopular RWBY Opinion: Watts should have had a mega corporation and been the corruption behind Atlas instead of Jacques and the SDC who should have been underdogs.
Tumblr media
Now I’m incorporating this into my reimagined AU and this is more about what I believe another story could have been told with the world of rwby, it’s concepts and what they could have been instead, so take this with any kind of seasoning you like.
And anyone looking for AUs that work on making Jacques a bastard, RWBY: Remnants and RWBY: Evermorrow, probably FRWBY, and plenty of other people getting that down, so the concept will survive my non-contribution.
Looking in retrospect with The Schnee family and Atlas and what we know about Watts. I think Watts should have had the corrupt corporation with unethical Faunus labor that has influence in Atlas and The Schnees and the SDC should have been among the smaller underdog companies being crushed by them.
Just looking back at the criticisms of the Schnee's and how Nicholas kinda dug the SDC's grave way before Jacques did when he wrote a deal that basically bled Vaccou dry, and once again Watts' contribution to Atlas, it had me thinking about this.
Imagine if Watts had his own megacorporation lets say for this case, GigaWatts Industries, which used slave labor in its factories, he got his way and was elevated to the mastermind of Atlas with countless of companies and even Atlas Military hiring him for tech(like OCP from Robocop) while also using Dust Mining, notably to spite Jacques who he has a bitter history with. And the SDC and The Schnee's are one of the few companies who give Faunus honest work.
Basically my idea is Jacque's late wife Willow was a scientist who worked with Arthur and Pietro and let's just say Arthur was miffed a "fellow genius" chose a "clown of a businessman and former huntsman" over him to produce "successful prodigy" with, one thing leads to another and Willow is killed by Anti-Faunus milita who GWI provides tech to. Jacques becomes cold and bitter and is certain Watts had something to do with it, but still good intentioned for his children and company. And now both Arthur and Jacques are at each other's throats, giving the SDC and White Fang a common foe, and keep in mind, this also involves Adam Taurus being a former slave to one of the GWI factories and is an initial-antagonist-turned-good.
How Salem would fit into this idk, but one idea for another reimagined AU makes Salem more of a background lore character and Watts his own individual arc villain who dabbles in Black/Grimm Magic(which most of the villains do) with his tech in a Weiss-Centered arc. Involving a cool gun/sword/baritsu fight between Jacques and Watts and later Weiss and Watts.
It's not much, but just a though that's been cooking in my brain for a while. I could go on, but I'd just be rambling away.

i will keep that in mind. Tbh, I've actually started writing right after I asked if I could. I just kept taking breaks because horrible attention, and I was stuck in Blake's part until last night. Now I'm kinda stuck on the Blacksmith's part. I have no idea how to write them... Though I have started writing their part, it is somewhat slow going, because of unfamiliarness with the character and irl stuff like tests.
On an unrelated note. Can we talk about the fucking symbolism?? Parallels??? Between Yang's death in this au and Ruby's in canon??
Because in Ruby's eyes. Yang, who did nothing wrong, who did not indanger their team, was the reason for a *kingdom* falling, didn't cause Penny's *death*. Had chosen to ascend and come back as someone else.
Whereas *Ruby*, who *did* do all of those things, at least in Ruby's eyes, chose to *not* ascend and came back as herself!!
Can you tell I love these fictional sisters?
FUCK YEAH PARALLELS!!!!!!!!!
She has none of the reasons ruby decided to go to the tree and yet she’s the one who ended up gone
CRAZZYYYYYY
For the blacksmith thing I say make them as unsettling as possible go bananas do something crazy
Yang is so interesting in the sense of her motivation is more people based like she didn’t come out post v3 to save the world she left to go help Ruby and that just happened to be what they were doing and Yang goes 100% because that’s just how she is like of course she’s helping people what else would she be doing kinda thing
When she thought she was dead at the beginning she didn’t seem particularly upset about it she just was there was nothing else to do anymore she’s done she fulfilled her little life’s purpose of protecting Ruby and saving people along the way and she’s done now time to look for all the people who she knows who died or something
She was DEEPLY upset when the rest of her team was dead for obvious reasons especially because stopping Ruby from dying was WHY SHE DIED but whatever moving on
I think Yang sees living as a never ending list of things to do and people to love so she’s always doing something and caring about someone like her whole life she was taking care of Ruby then in beacon she was helping Blake and along the way she was working to be a huntress which came easy to her and it was all good then she was looking for Ruby and then she was defeating Salem (which she may or may not have ever thought was possible but I doubt she cares)
Then she dies and she’s just
Done
She was in a good place to not want to die but I don’t know how much the thought bothered her cause of how risky she’s always known being a huntress is
But when she went to the ever after there was something to do and it was ascend
So of course
She did that
I think maybe Ruby has always hated how Yang reacts to her own danger
Because Ruby and Yang love each other so much but they actively exist in each others worst issues in a way that’s almost fine cause it’s them
Ruby abandoned Yang after she lost her arm but Yang was never mad at her she never even saw it like that she should’ve been able to follow her (plus Ruby’s thought her semblance was running away for the longest time)
Yang sacrifices herself all the time especially for Ruby and Ruby’s biggest thing is being abandoned unintentionally (as a parallel to Yang intentional abandonment problem) like through death however it’s their dynamic it’s what they do Yang will always do this because she’s her older sister
I love their parallels
ALSO IM SO SO SO EXCITED TO READ WHATEVER YOU MAKE HEHEHHEHEHEE
I’m so excited to see your take on how she’d be feeling and how everyone reacts and just everything I’m just so excited to see it and all your interpretations
I love when people make stuff of my posts ss

Jaune desevers Choice
Jaune does not need the relic of destruction. First of all, let’s talk about the sword itself. The sword might as well be the last thing our heroes should ever take out of its vault or let Salem have. Considering it might as well be equivalent to a Death Note and a God of destruction. Summon the spirit, give it a name or a specified target and it will destroy what you desire. I’m saying anyone can use this sword and become all-powerful.
Now here’s what your thinking, “Our heroes need the relic to beat Salem.” right? But let’s look at the details here. Ozpin was reincarnated multiple times. He found each of the relics and used them to where he knows the rules and the spirits who reside in them. So wouldn’t he already have tried and failed to kill Salem with it? Because she’s immortal. What other purpose would the sword serve? Nothing. So why does Jaune need it?
Now, why Jaune doesn’t need the sword of destruction? That’s simple. Jaune already has enough power due to his semblance and aura alone. He just needs time and training to learn how to use them. However, that's only the secondary reason. The primary reason is Jaune is more deserving of the relic of choice. After all, his choices seem to be beneficial to everyone instead of sabotaging them.
Jaune in volume one, started simply as a boy going in way over his head. He got bullied but instead of quitting, he decides to ride it out. However, when his team was in trouble he stood up to his bully and resolve his situation. This was the first set of choices that resulted in his team not being set up for failure. If Jaune allowed Cardin to get away with his miss doings, Jaune’s team would have lost respect for him and worse Cardin could’ve gotten them into trouble.
In volume two he could have taken advantage of Weiss’s rejection from Neptune and used it to finally dance with her. But he didn’t. Instead, he chose to help Weiss by talking with Neptune and his choice helped everybody have a great time. Not only that it helped Jaune to be open-minded and think about others and their feelings. Volume four and five I will not discuss because Jaune’s decision-making was more based on emotions.
However, in volume six, despite there being other options, Jaune choosing to steal an Atlas airship was still a good suggestion. I mean, that plan by RWBY standards actually could have worked, flawlessly if Adam didn’t show up out of anywhere. Regardless of the outcome, his choice helped everyone get to Atlas in good condition.
Finally, in volume eight, though I do wish Jaune had a hand in a lot more, I will still give him some credit. Jaune telling everyone to split up, for now, was a good idea considering everyone was arguing back and forth with one another. Then Jaune took advantage of the war to look for Oscar and that helped them escape and gain a new crew member. (Still don’t trust her though.) And even though I still can’t stand the fact, that he killed Penny, Jaune still saved more lives than Team RWBY. By giving the maiden powers to Winter, Jaune not only prevented Cinder from taking both the powers and the relic, but he also gave the evacuated citizens a better chance at survival.
Every time Jaune calls the shots somehow it is more beneficial for others around him than with Ruby. Yes, Ruby is the main character and the primary leader of the group but her decisions always seem to lead to disaster than prosperity. Not only that Jaune, whether you know it or not, proved Jame’s and Clover's words to be true. The right choices are the hardest to make and sometimes you have to make the tough decisions. And what better way to see those choices unfold than with the relic of choice itself?
If what we know is to be true, the crown can see into the future. Allowing someone to see the possibilities or outcomes of his or her choices. However if not used properly or abused could cause the user to go insane and be numb enough not to make any choice at all. But for Jaune that is a risk worth taking.
Jaune always kept his eyes forward. Even after Pyrrha’s death, Jaune was still willing to follow the path he chose and become a huntsman. 'But after failing to save Penny Jaune could become more determined to stop Salem. So if he were to use the crown he will not care for the outcome as long as his friends are happy. Even if he might not be there to see it.

it’s not long before the wedding now and tensions are high, the planning of the ceremony taking up everyone’s time. it’s winter break so it’s only a week away now, salem staying with regulus, both because the wedding is so soon and because he’s never letting her go back to her mother, knowing that she’d most likely be hurt if she did.
it’s their first dinner back and it’s a big event, walburga inviting some of the neighboring wizarding families and organizing a small feast. during the day everyone gathers in the garden, dressed in high end clothing and drinking enchanted alcohol, most everyone in good spirits. orion and one of his friends take turns playing music on the piano, giving background music to the party. there’s wizard chess and even owl racing, some of the adults bringing their children as well. they use the bigger dining table, the one in the garden, to magically set out the feast when it’s time for dinner.
regulus gets drunk faster than he should, playing two truths and a lie with salem to get to know each other more (and taking a shot every time one of them gets something wrong). he guides her through the garden to show her all of his favorite pieces of art, his fingers intertwined with hers as he explains each sculpture. this is her second night staying here and he didn’t get to spend enough time showing her everything last time, gettng cut off by their parents before he was done.
it’s hard to keep his eyes off of his bride-to-be, looking so beautiful in the black, lacey outfit she chose alongside his own. his coat and pants are black silk, matching the dark color of his lace material top, slightly unbuttoned to show off his chest and the silver necklaces layered upon it. his dark curls look even darker against the outfit, the silver snake choker glinting on his neck. their clothing seems to draw eyes, especially from the handful of guests that are their age, regulus and salem knowing them from hogwarts. astoria and daphne had even said hi earlier, speaking to them for a moment before regulus had guided salem off to look at more art.
by the time they make it to the dining table, he’s smiling faintly, glad that she seems to enjoy it here even if there’s still a lot that’s unfamiliar. he pulls her chair out for her, allowing her to sit before he takes his own seat next to her. at first things go smoothly, everyone filing over until most of the party is participating in dinner (roast beef, vegetables, dinner rolls and various other appetizers). orion introduces salem to one of the families they’re closer to and they make small talk, mrs. greengrass even asking salem about her own career plans for the future. regulus can feel orion listening raptly to salem’s response, knowing this is one of the things his father is a stickler about. he wants regulus to work in the ministry with him and he lets his father believe he will for now, still not giving it a lot of thought yet.
by the end of the party, regulus is drunk enough that he’s feeling it as people start to leave, kind of wanting to sneak off with salem but getting caught by his mother and asked to join them inside for dessert. he agrees somewhat reluctantly, tugging his fiance along until they’re in the dining room inside, the table already set with chocolate gateau and whipped cream.
Tumblr media
at first dessert goes well too, orion telling them about some vacation the malfoys are on and how they sent souvenirs, but eventually he finds out why his mother really set up a family only dessert. “i wanted to talk about your plans together, as a couple,” walburga starts, her dark brown eyes finding salem briefly before moving to her son. “how you’re planning on behaving, and representing us… we decided that salem is to move in here, so certain family ideals need to be upheld. right, regulus, dear?”
regulus’s good mood evaporates as soon as he hears the tone she’s speaking in, picking up on the way she looked over at salem for a little too long. “like what, making sure the hedges are trimmed a certain way? extending a pinky finger when we take a drink?” he shouldn’t be joking about it but it’s hard to answer her seriously when he’s kind of wasted, a smile on his lips.
“regulus,” orion warns, but he can hear a hint of amusement in his father’s voice. he probably knows what walburga is about to say, and it doesn’t help that he’s also been drinking so he isn’t taking it very seriously at the moment either.
his response clearly frustrates her, dark eyes narrowing a bit. “very funny. no, i’m talking about how it’s already going to look to people that she’s staying here before the marriage ceremony… this isn’t how normal pureblood families do things. we’re bending our rules to suit your demands, so i think it’s only fair to ask things in return…”
“we’re bending the rules because salem isn’t returning to stacy’s home,” regulus interjects sharply. “that’s non-negotiable. i won’t have my fiance be in harm’s way.” his parents know vaguely about why they’re cutting stacy off and orion fully supports it, agreeing that a husband shouldn’t allow something like that (and that it would make their family look bad anyway, if it got out). his mother had been more quiet, seeming as if she finds the situation disasteful but not enough to argue against it, ultimately agreeing with her husband.
walburga’s mouth is set in a hard line before she continues, looking irritated at the tone he’s taking. “be that as it may, we should go over family expectations. starting with the first one, i expect a certain level of respect from both of you when under my roof together. you’ll act in a way that would reflect well upon us if anyone else in the village were to see.” her voice is stiff, as if she’s holding back something that’s making her more upset.
regulus isn’t in the state to analyze what she means, her words rolling off of him because of his inebriation. “luckily for you, mother, i left my ‘i love muggles’ t-shirt back at hogwarts, so…” “that’s more than enough, regulus,” his father interjects, voice strict and a little cold as he glances over at his wife in concern. he knows how things go when walburga and regulus fight, and how inconsolable she gets. “perhaps we should have this conversation a bit later, when the drinking has worn off, walburga.”
“no,” she says coldly, and there’s full anger in her eyes now as she looks between them. “you won’t speak to me that way.” she seems a little taken aback, probably because this doesn’t ever happen, regulus tending to keep an agreeable tone with her. something about the intoxication mixed with his protectiveness of salem is making him act out, feeling annoyed and very much like whatever his mother is displeased about doesn’t make any logical sense.
regulus glances over at salem to make sure she’s okay, the room a little twisty because he can’t seem to get sober even as he reaches over to chug some water from his goblet. “mother…” he can feel her about to launch into another demand, already hating the slight tremble in her voice. / @ghstdoll

Evolution of White Knight in RWBY (Volume 6)
Episode 6.1 “Argus Limited” has a very brief moment. When coming up with a plan, Ruby suggests that Ren covers the train in his semblance, to keep the passengers safe from the Grimm. While Ren expresses doubt, Ruby mentions that he could use Jaune’s help, with Weiss adding “He could amplify your Aura!” It shows that her opinion of him is continuing to change for the better, with her now having confidence in his semblance. This of course makes sense since she had been on the receiving end of his abilities not too long ago.
Episode 6.7 “The Grim Reaper” has Teams RWBY, Oscar, Qrow & Maria meeting back up with Team JN_R. Both teams are ecstatic to see each other. Blake goes to hug Jaune, and Weiss is on her heels, coming over to talk to Jaune. While he had been hugging Blake, his eyes had been closed. He opened them and focused on Weiss, giving her a smile. While she could have approached Ren or Nora, she chose to speak with Jaune instead.
Also look at that smile Blake gives Jaune. She is so shipping them.
Tumblr media
Episode 6.8 “Dead End” during a fight in which Team JN_R discovers the truth behind Salem, Jaune explodes in anger and advances on Oscar. As he’s approaching, Weiss attempts to defend Oscar. In comparison to early volumes, Weiss isn’t furious. Instead, she sounds desperate. She doesn’t even try to actually fight him, and almost looks like she was simply trying to appeal to him.
Tumblr media
Episode 6.12 “Seeing Red” after Weiss uses her glyphs to slow Ruby’s fall, she collapses out of exhaustion. Immediately Jaune drops to her side, checking on her. When we see them next, Jaune is still kneeling next to her, having a hand on her back to keep her steady while she catches her breath.

rewatching rwby, and got to the part where it's revealed that Oz gave Qrow and Raven the ability to turn into birds and watching the team react negativly to it feels sort of forced.
i don't have a problem with them be shocked and questioning Oz about it (for example. Yang saying "why would you do something like that?!"), because it seems reasonable reaction.
But my problem is that in my opinion, rather than making it a big deal out of Qrow and Raven being able to turn into birds, they should have had the team be more suspicious of Oz's reason for giving Qrow and Raven the ability in the first place.
yes, if i learned someone can turn into a bird, i would too be surprised, but i wouldn't be all like "how could you, you monster! This is terrible>:("
with how Yang reacts, outright saying "how could you do something like this?!" it makes the ability sound more like a undying curse than what it really is.
after Oz tells his motives to them, why not have the team press on and keep questioning him?
i liked that Ruby asked if Oz had done this before and after hearing that no, he hasn't, the writers could have used this for Yang (the more being distrustful at the moment) or the team to then become more distrustful of him, because why would he would he decide to ask something like this to his own students who weren't much aware of Salem and all that stuff before, rather than some ally?
why Qrow and Raven of all people? does it have to do with them coming from the Branwen tribe? did Oz chose to ask them because he saw that he could use them for his plans?
did Qrow and Raven really made the choice to accept the ability or did Oz made them feel like they were the ones making the decision, by guilt tripping or pressuring them?
Qrow sees Oz in a positive light, while Raven sees him in a negative one.
could Qrow's defending of Oz and repeating over and over that it was his choice, has to do with his relationship with Oz? Did Oz make Qrow feel welcomed and loved despite his semblance and that's why Qrow was willing to accept Oz request to be turned into a bird and put his life in danger by gathering infor on Salem and searching for maidens?
could the way Raven talks about Oz do with her not trusting him for ages and her refusing to see that she may be wrong about him?
Why not show a flashback of it happening? Y'know what? Why not show two flashbacks - one from Raven's POV and the other from Qrow's POV?
Seeing eachs POV, we could then see the others view of the incident.
With Qrow's we would see why he accepted the ability and why he trusts Oz and it would make us doubt Raven's statements from the previous episode.
But with Raven's POV we could truly understand why she doesnt trust Oz and then we would start doubting Qrow's memory.
Maybe even show Oz's POV. This could show things what the twins didnt know, which them would makes us doubt Raven's distrust, because she didnt have the whole picture. Maybe, actually do agree with some of Raven's reasons not to trust the guy by showing the sketchy side of him.
Maybe make parallels between Oz aksing Pyrrha to become the Fall Maiden with him asking the twins to agree to the ability and to use to work for him.
if they wanted to paint Oz as this gray area guy, who you can't really trust, why not show it to, instead of having Raven talk on and on how Oz is this distrustful, manipulative person, only to learn that...*checks notes* he gave the twins a choice to turn into...birds...with no negative side affects...and they agreed
upon rewatch, Oz did seem sketchy when he told Pyrrha about the Maidens and i liked that, because I felt like despite being the one of the Good Guys, I still felt I couldn't fully trust him and it ends up disappointing how in Vol 5 it's hyped up by Raven how Oz isnt what he seems who did something horrible to her and Qrow, only in the next second to reveal...she can turn into a bird at will :/

Potential RWBY Vol. 9 spoilers: Is Summer Rose the Lively Carpenter?
Tumblr media
Okay, so I’ve been doing some serious thinking and research on Summer Rose and have a theory that might explain where the next few episodes might be heading and why this changes everything.
In Volume 9 Episode 4 “A Cat Most Curious”, Weiss mentions two characters yet to be introduced: The Rusted Knight and the Lively Carpenter. We meet the Rusted Knight at the end of episode 5 “The Parfait Predicament” only to find out the Rusted Knight is actually Jaune who had gone back in time and aged a considerable amount of years. After his identity had been revealed, the intro had changed slightly to update the helmed knight to old man Jaune’s face. What I find curious is the fact that the Lively Carpenter is even mentioned at all since we have no idea what their identity is or any hints towards their character in the intro. All we know is they were a character in Alyx’s story and played an important enough role in the book for Weiss to mention, but other than that, we don’t know anything else. I'm thinking Alyx met the Lively Carpenter either before she met the Rusted Knight or after she betrayed him and left him for dead. If either were the case, it would mean Jaune likely wouldn't have known or had simply forgotten of the Lively Carpenter's existence. This means neither does Team RWBY and it's most plausible that it'll be Ruby who comes across the Lively Carpenter now that she's separated from the rest of the group.
Now, there’s a lot of debate and speculation regarding this particular weapon below:
Tumblr media
I am 100% convinced this axe belonged to Summer Rose. It took me a little while to figure out, but each of the weapons we see up close reflect their prior user. Penny's sword reflected Penny, the dagger Ruby was holding reflected Alyx, and the Axe reflected Summer Rose. What’s most intriguing about the axe is the fact that it’s in the Ever After in the first place. In regard to the Lively Carpenter, Axes have long since been a tool used by Carpenters or Woodsmen. Since Summer’s weapon is in the Ever After, who’s to say Summer isn’t there either?
It might explain why she appears in a different outfit than her famous white cloak in the reflection on the Axe:
Tumblr media
We know Summer Rose is claimed to be deceased, that has been mentioned time and time again in the series. HOWEVER, it is also mentioned that she left on a mission one day and never returned. This indicates there was never a body found to confirm her death but because nobody found a trace of her, she was presumed dead. What if her mission had something to do with the Ever After and she ran into a similar situation as Jaune did? Could she have realized during her time their that defeating Salem is an impossible task and should not be her burden to take on and laid down her burden? Perhaps she met the Blacksmith, gave up her weapon, and chose to no longer be Summer Rose, but instead took on a new title and ascended. If the Ever After became her new home and gave her a new purpose, why couldn’t she have become the Lively Carpenter?
It would certainly add to the Ruby angst we've been seeing lately! Imagine Ruby discovering her mother had been alive after all this time and chose to live in a fairytale instead of figuring out a way to return home to her children. I'd assume Ruby wouldn't react very well to this and feel a sense of abandonment from her mother and feel betrayed by her biggest role model who she based her own identity off of. This would further cause her identity crisis to spiral and might make her entire character change. After all, the curious cat mentioned when someone ascends in the Ever After, they have no memory of their past. This would mean Summer would have no recollection of Ruby or Yang. (And also that would confirm what happens to a human when they are ascended in the Ever After.)
I would also like to mention something interesting about the Xiao Long Cabin that may or may not relate to Summer being the Lively Carpenter:
Tumblr media
This Xiao Long cabin is located in Patch, but also far away from civilization and I think the intention behind it being built here was so that Summer (the silver eyed warrior) and her family could never be found or disturbed. The question is, WHO built the cabin? It’s safe to assume Summer and Tai built it together, but going back to Summer’s axe, I think Summer must have had a side hobby/talent of woodwork or carpentry, thus potentially confirming she eventually became the Lively Carpenter in the Ever After.
Idk, what do you guys think? RWBY brain rot might have me thinking too in between the lines, but I think this is a pretty neat Theory!

Past, Change, Hope
30 minute Writing Challenge - Three Word Prompt
Qrow Branwen x Ozpin
---
The shattered moon hung high in the sky, the white, ghostly light filtering through the window.
Qrow slowly lowered himself onto the edge of the bed, his nightly routine coming to an unceremonious end.  His partner laid on the other side of the bed, not paying him any mind, his nose buried in a book.  Qrow laughed to himself.  Oz was at peace.  It was as nice as it was rare.
Qrow took off his black and silver rings, one at a time, a quiet, metal clink ringing out with each one dropped onto the end table.  As he took off the last one, he hesitated, turning it over in his fingers.
Holding it felt like a curse by itself, a weight tied around his neck.
You’re a Branwen first, always, boy.  Remember that.
The voice of the tribe leader reverberated through his head, pounding behind his eyes, engrained forever in his mind.  The ring was a gift from the tribe leader just before they shipped Qrow and his twin sister off to Beacon.  Now he keeps it as a reminder of what could have been if Oz hadn’t…
“I don’t get it,” Qrow croaked as he set the ring down.
“Don’t get what, my love?” Oz asked half-heartedly, not even lifting his eyes from his book.
“‘A curse.’  ‘A burden.’  ‘A drunk, arrogant ass.’”  Qrow paused, turning around to see how his words had landed.
Oz stood stiff, his eyes no longer moving along with the words.  He wasn’t looking, but he was sure as hell listening.
“I mean, you had to have known, right?  So why’d you do it?”
Oz looked at his partner over his book.  “Are you trying to ask me why we are together again?”
Qrow smirked, “Nah, I’m sure I have my effortless charm to thank for that.”
Oz shook his head, a playful smile forming on his lips as he closed his book and set it down.
“Why did you hire me, Oz?  Why did you trust me with…?”
With the war on Salem.
The words remained unsaid, but the meaning hung in the air.
Oz’s smile slowly faded away, replaced with a stare of thoughtfulness.  “Why shouldn’t I have hired you?”
A million answers flooded Qrow’s head.  Because I was a fuck up.  Because I caused you nothing but trouble while I was at Beacon.  Because I had no idea what the fuck I was doing.  Because… I’m just bad luck.
“The next words out of your mouth better not have anything to do with your semblance,” Oz scolded before Qrow could even say a word.
Qrow shrugged.  “I’m sure you could have found someone better.”
“Like hell I could have.  Qrow, I chose you because I knew you had something to prove.  I knew that you earned everything you had.  I knew that you were more than you gave yourself credit for.  You were more than your semblance.”
Qrow laughed through his nose.  Oz always told him that.
“But, more importantly,” Oz reached over, grabbing Qrow by the arm and pulling him into a tight embrace, “I hired you to try and give you the one thing I could offer… the one thing I never truly had…”
“What was that?”
Oz squeezed Qrow a little tighter.
“Hope.”

My midnight shower thought: for Ozma and all his incarnations Salem has remained the same visually. She looks more or less the same since he met her for the second time, in the first new life where they became gods among men and had a family. But for Salem the Ozma that she loved and lost too soon has never returned to her. It’s his soul moved up in there, an undercurrent of his voice below all the others. But she hasn’t truly seen Her Ozma since many man lifetimes ago. Stagnant water isn’t safe to drink. The Salem he loved he saw for the last time as he died in a bed. They have not seen each other in so long god. God!!!
ok ok ok
the thing
this is a wild tangent from what you said i apologize
but the THING IS
the first thing we learn about the grimm beyond the vague mythical description of inevitable darkness, creatures of destruction, so forth—the first proper information we get about them is that they are “manifestations of anonymity,” that their darkness is the darkness of ignorance, of not knowing, contrasted against the light of knowledge and understanding. the soul is identity and grimm lack souls because they are anonymous
which is all very interesting as it pertains to salem’s monstrosity being so inextricable from her anonymity, from the isolation enforced by ozma’s absolute commitment to erasing her from history and keeping her existence a secret. obviously. BUT,
salem throws herself into the pool of grimm because she reasons that the force of pure destruction it holds might cancel out the pure creation she has been forced to carry, right. it changes her profoundly, restoring the equal balance between creation and destruction that people are supposed to have and in the same stroke making her grimm. there’s an obvious metaphor being constructed here about scapegoating and dehumanization that like 95% of the fandom is missing in truly hilarious fashion but also more saliently to the point i’m getting to, salem stood on that precipice and gazed down into the abyss and thought about what might happen to her if she jumped before making the choice to actually jump, and i think maybe the most critical piece of information we have about what she thought the pool of grimm would do to her is “if the fountain of life granted her immortality, then surely the pool of grimm would take it away.” jinn implies a suicide attempt but her description of salem’s own reasoning is not about death, it’s about trying to become mortal again. trying to remove her infinite life by throwing herself into a darkness equal to the light inflicted upon her; i don’t think it mattered to her much either way whether the pool would kill her outright or spit out one more monster as long as whatever was left of her afterwards had the possibility of death. she didn’t know exactly what would happen, but she very much chose to do it to herself with full awareness of what that choice entailed.
and then when ozma comes out of his impulsive agreement to do what the god of light asked, screaming in disorientation and terror, when a stranger asks him “who are you?” and he recoils in horror as the realization of what happened to him sinks in, it’s with oscar standing by to mutter pityingly that he didn’t know. he didn’t know what he said yes to, what it would mean, and then god of light hurled him back onto a battlefield and he didn’t even know who he was.
salem has always been herself and her face has always been her own, the face of her birth and the face that she chose for herself, and it is so so achingly clear that the physical transformation did not fundamentally change her. she’s still just the person she’s always been, if buried under the weight of a thousand facile narratives piled on her shoulders by people who cannot or will not see her for who she is.
but ozma said yes to a duty he didn’t want just so he could see her again and he’s spent every goddamned minute of his existence since then having his identity shredded by an endless parade of other people whose lives and souls he’s forced to consume and then become, over and over and over again until it becomes fucking meaningless, until he’s spent thousands of different lives doing the exact same fucking thing in different flavors, variations on a theme. and the only comfort he can get is don’t worry, eventually you won’t even know whos who anymore. he still doesn’t know who he is, he’s spent thousands of years not knowing who he is, because the god of light tricked him into saying yes to being torn apart and molded into an instrument of divine authority.
and there’s, like
i go a little nuts every time i think about the fact that salem still calls him ozma, that she intuitively knows whether it’s him speaking or oscar, that even the very first time she saw him with an unfamiliar face she recognized him instantly. bc ozma can’t tell the difference, ozma doesn’t even self-identify as a person anymore and treats the distinction between himself and oscar as a temporary technicality, but salem still knows who he is as clearly as she knows herself, just as he has lost his sense of who she is as thoroughly as he’s lost his own identity. and by the same token ozma has for lifetimes defined himself solely in opposition to her, solely by his fixation on destroying her.
and all of this in the narrative that made it explicitly, plainly clear upfront that the soul is a person’s knowledge of themself. that what makes a monster a monster is having no sense of identity.
the god of light tried to take his champion’s soul and salem is the reason he can’t.

Me, having to listen to someone speak about Cinder's "unparalleled talent" in combat and how she's the best villain on the show and she deserved all of her victories and her loses were all not her fault or plot mandated: "uh huh, sure. Say, what are you smoking again?"
Me, having to listen to the same person extole Ozpin as having done nothing wrong, Pyrrha is responsible for her own death and Qrow, Ozpin, Goodwitch, and Ironwood shouldnt give it another thought, and there was no problem with how she was given her information and any knowledge gaps in what was told to her were irrelevant, she knew enough: ".........oh, you're one of those"
Me, listening to how someone describes beating Ozpin that one time is supposed to be a sign that Cinder should always be invincible, Salem gettig beat up by Hazel doesnt count because she sucks, all of the other Maidens not having Plot Armor is totally valid, saying Jaune, Ren, and Nora should have died: "whelp, time to drop this discord server"
Hoo boy, I don’t normally do deep essays about my favorite shows, but here goes…
The first and third points you make speak for themselves, anon, and I’m assuming you’re responding to people who like Cinder too much and think she’s more badass than she really is.
The second point is one that I wrestle with. After growing up and realizing how much about the world was kept from me and my peers as kids (either to protect us or to influence us), I have a pretty negative reaction towards authorities that insist on keeping major secrets from people doing the work/fighting. If I were in Jaune’s position, finding out that Pyrrha had been set up for a major risk without being given all the information, I’d probably want to beat Ozpin senseless, too.
However, I think it’s actually good writing that things go the way they did! Sure, Arkos is easily my favorite ship and my shipper brain instantly tries to find ways for things to turn out better for Pyrrha! But in service of the whole plot, it’s great drama to have a secret leader fighting for humanity who has been betrayed before and now can’t bring himself to trust anyone, creating tension after it leads to people dying. Ozpin himself has said that he made more mistakes than anyone alive, and we didn’t understand what he meant at the time, but by god we get to learn and it’s not pretty. You also see something similar with Ironwood and the Atlas military, where the authority figure decides that only they know what needs to be done, even if it leads to people being hurt, and it ultimately costs Ironwood everything (if it’s not clear, I’m not a member of the “Ironwood did nothing wrong” crowd)
It’s difficult for me to reconcile what the “correct” course of action is regarding secrets (which also makes for a much better dramatic story). Ozpin has some justification in not revealing everything to everyone because there were obviously betrayals or people who went rogue and made things worse (Lionheart and Ironwood). However, people like Jaune, Raven, and Hazel are also justified in feeling betrayed or lied to while their loved ones are being killed in a fight that they were kept from understanding.
The closest thing to a big moral statement that I can find in RWBY is that when people decide not to trust and push people away, it ends in tragedy (See: Pyrrha, Summer, Ironwood, etc). Even when it’s for the best reasons, the strongest heroes fail when they fight alone, and they succeed when they trust each other and fight together. (Plugging another of my favorite shows: “Mandalorians are stronger together.”) I’ve seen comparisons between Jaune and Hazel, where one chose to burn the world down and the other got up and kept fighting for the world to be safe, and I like the conclusion they made: the difference is that Jaune remained with his friends and trusted them while Hazel turned away from everything. I wouldn’t want to guess if there’s a planned resolution for the show, but if there is then I would think that Ozpin/Raven/other characters learning to trust again would play a big part.
Tl;dr It’s good dramatic writing for there to be a struggle between keeping things secret and trusting others, even though it led to two of my favorite ships being sunk (Arkos/Fairgame). Hopefully we see more people learning to trust each other and it saves the world.

Wolf File: Minister 1F "Rieka"
Observing Scientist: Salem Holloway, Am. Nat.
Location: [REDACTED]
ENTRY ONE
Tumblr media
Our entry begins with a single female. "Rieka", a two-year-old C. Lupus Occidentalis, began her dispersal journey a few weeks prior to the image above. In every direction, we observed larger, more experienced packs building their territories for the coming winter. If she was going to establish a place for herself, she would have to hurry.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Our team quickly realized that Rieka, despite her mellow temperament, was no pushover. She practiced her hunting skills for weeks before attempting to find a mate, with fewer and fewer failures as time passed. Although our data regarding her pack of origin was limited, we inferred that she had been taught well by the breeding pair.
Tumblr media
With time, Rieka's ceaseless howling was rewarded with a visit from two Quadrant Pack males. One of the wolves looked similar enough to Rieka to be her twin and was consequently rejected, although the two seemed mutually deferential after the fact.
Tumblr media
The other male was "Apatite". The team chose this mineral name as a sort of play-on-words, due to both his grey-blue coloring and the sheer amount of prey he was seen to have consumed.
Tumblr media
After a tense meeting while the two wolves discovered each other's personalities, they became trial mates. This timing was particularly fortunate, as the first snowfall heralded winter during their courtship period.
Tumblr media
Apatite and Rieka made for an interesting pair. Rieka took control of many hunts despite being significantly slower than her mate, and was observed guarding kills with ferocity. Apatite quickly learned that he ate when Rieka decided he could eat.
Tumblr media
The male began wandering from his mate's side during winter to kill his own prey, but ceased this habit as Rieka became more visibly pregnant. By the time their territory was established, the pair were inseparable and did not leave each other's side for the rest of the observation period.
Tumblr media
The observation period ended with the female's attempts to dig out a den. The team would return in a few weeks to view any potential pups.
