Yeah, it does seem sort of like that, especially with his incredibly scientific cure for Harrow's incomplete Lyctor issues, which was just "try to kill her until she's fixed, lol". I guess to him, starting life in a world where necromancy didn't exist and being raised with the idea that such stuff was fantasy, maybe it didn't occur to him, or never really sunk in that it can be scientifically studied in the same way?

I think Augustine and Mercy explictly mention that the war seems pointless, and Augustine begs John to give up his vendetta. At which point John tells him that if 'the man you used to be heard you say that he'd be furious' or something like that...so it really does seem all about a war of vengeance.

Yeah, Augustine asking him to quit the war didn't really seem relevant to me back then, but I guess this is maybe something that they'd be tired of for a long time now and he thought that maybe if John was really going to beg for forgiveness, he could at least give them that given that the cavaliers are long gone at this point?

My theory: a few thousand years after the Resurrection, John discovered the descendents of the trillionaires, or the trillionaires themselves (FTL travel seems iffy in outcome) and could at last get his rage out.

Ah, so BOE are the descendants of the trillionaires who wouldn't fund his cryostasis project and that's his whole damage about them for 10,000 years? Ok, this reminds me of how some dumb white people oppose antiracism stuff by saying like, "but I never owned any slaves, why are you punishing me for something my ancestors did?" and totally miss the point that slavery was not that long ago and the whole institution is still having an effect on society even though it's not actually around anymore, and maybe John is seeing this that way, too, but... in this case (based on the first chapter of Nona) BOE definitely isn't populated by trillionaires, or people who benefited from their long-gone ancestors being trillionaires, and I'm sure that all that money probably lost its meaning when everyone died and it's been 10,000 years since then

Three ships: Kataang, Fang/Lightning, Finn/Rey. The first one is described in the next prompt, the middle one relates to a game I'm playing right now and the third one is because my usual discord server had me reflecting on how much of a mistake it was getting involved in the star wars fandom for the sequel trilogy.

First ship: Technically speaking, it was Ash/Misty in Pokemon. As far as actual fandom goes, it's Kataang - I found the concept of fandom because I was absolutely nuts about the Aang/Katara pairing and I needed to know if people were writing their own stories about them.

Last Song: Arms of a Woman by Amos Lee

Last Movie: man I don't even know. Probably John Wick 3 when I had a few drinks months ago.

Currently Reading: I don't read as much as I should, so idk. The last book I bought was called I Hope We Choose Love: A Trans Girl's Diary for the End of the World, which I gave a shot, but it felt like reading Tumblr essays on paper so I'm ambivalent.

Currently Watching: I'm not watching anything, since my life is working and then playing video games (mostly produced by Square Enix at the moment), but I do want to re-watch the anime Ano Hana sometime soon. The story is centred around a teenaged NEET named Jinta who's begun seeing a hallucination of his childhood friend Menma, a girl who drowned in a river when he was like 8 years old. I've seen the show already, but it's a great show about the ugly aftereffects of grief and how it changes people, as well as being able to heal and overcome in a positive way. Incredible show - a bit Off to begin with, a bit sensationalist, but still a really fantastic show.

Currently consuming: box wine with sugar-free Major Mellon flavoured Mountain Dew.

Currently Craving: access to my bank card so I can buy as much fast food as I can without going broke.

a lot of characters in Arcane make decisions based on emotion, trauma, and incomplete information - Jinx is the best example, ofc. Like, besides the fact that she doesn’t actually know Vi’s been imprisoned this whole time (and without that info the logical conclusion is that Vi could’ve come down to find her whenever she wanted but didn’t), she’s also super vulnerable and has serious attachment issues, etc. Like, the characters are all fucking up constantly, which feels integral to the tragedy

(also im kinda surprised and impressed that you found heimerdonger sympathetic? idk i think i went into the series with too much baggage and just saw him as like. a very puntable neolib the first time through and only kinda came around later)

but yeah when you look at their emotional core their decisions make a lot more sense. Jayce just kinda does what the last person to talk to him wants - he’s a rly rly malleable people-pleaser so long as his ego’s being stroked. Vander wants to protect his kids/Vi above all else, and repeatedly places Vi’s safety over the good of the Lanes, mirroring Silco’s choice at the end.

I definitely don't mind characters fucking up, but sometimes it felt like they made stupid mistakes without acknowledging how stupid they were. Like, Silco choosing Jinx over the Lanes is stupid in the grand scheme but he knows it, and the choice makes sense because we've seen that he genuinely loves her. Vander making the same choice also makes sense emotionally, but I was missing a sense that he realized how stupid it was - that it would destroy the city he built. I also don't mind Jinx making bad decisions because of her trauma. But then Jayce is just...an idiot, i guess. It's true that he just does whatever the last person he talked to said, but that's a very annoying character trait, lol.

re: Heimerdonger - I think you can tell from the fact that I totally misspelled this dude's name that I didn't particularly find him memorable and I wouldn't say he's sympathetic even. But he's got that Cassandra thing of pretty much predicting the future but no one believes them. As the audience, it's so clear that he's the only one who anticipates that it's impossible to just use the arcane to make the world better, that it will lead to violence. It's not unrealistic that no one would listen to him, but it is frustrating ;)

im glad homestuck means a lot to you, i understand the nostalgic and sentimental value to it, considering im the same with the harry potter franchise and whenever i see some merlin liveblogs i get hella excited because merlin was my homestuck back in the day. (which aired in 2008). and since im still in college as of now, im guessing ill end up in the same boat as you lmao. its very slow to start but im enjoying myself immensely and seeing the upside to just about everything. and overall, the story is VERY fascinating so im happy to be apart of this as well :)

also yes! i have seen the link to the epilogues in black and white whenever i go onto the homestuck site and the page i was on. i heard they are not what people were expecting?? but i cant exactly venture into that because im still in act 2. but everything has an epilogue, i guess, just some better than others. ill have to see if i will read that when it comes down to it. 

(that said, i probably will, but if other people dont like it, i dont have to. or i could just joke about it the whole way through if the content is that bad?? but it aint really a concern right now lmfao)

Kill Your Darlings, TheBirdcage, The Producers, honestly anything with Nathan Lane. I watch shows overand over more often than movies, but there are several movies that I enjoywatching multiple times!

Also stims and meds in general can make you not want to eat but please try to eat. Alcohol and weed help some people -namely me- but ofc I can’t necessarily recommend that

6: The skill I’ve always wanted to have is... coding, at least having the patience and environment to get into entry-level coding. Y’know, having enough know-how to make cool custom-tailored game things for my friends.

12: When people first meet me, I hope they feel... at ease, in a fairly light-hearted mood. I also like to test the waters with my sense of humor, so I hope most people I meet feel somewhat tickled by that.

14: If I was given unlimited time and resources, I would like to study... Literature. I don’t know a great deal about Oscar Wilde, but he’s a cool guy and The Picture of Dorian Gray is pretty great - I’d love to learn about other interesting authors and the like, and get a broader picture of the past’s most culturally prescient artists.

30: One good thing that happened last week is... I was sick for most of last week, so not much was going on. I beat Rayman Origins’ bonus boss? That was pretty great - I ended up with a greater appreciation of the game after that level, because I beat Rayman Legends first and it was a bit rough going back to Origins after that. That was a good turn of events.

I was like 19 when I startedthinking that I probably was, and about 22 when I fully acknowledged andaccepted it. I took a class on LGBT psychology in college to fill an honorsrequirement and had to write about my sexuality and was realizing that I wastotally hiding stuff that I didn’t want to acknowledge. There was a lot ofassuming that everyone felt the way I did, which really delayed figuring everythingout.
