But knowing they r human puppets gives more... uncanny vibes. But at the same time, I feel like that's the thrill to it for Sasori: he knew he could create something eternal, something everlasting, even after his passing, which in a less moral, more practical way of the shinobi lifestyle, is true. He created living (dead human) weapons to control the battlefield better than the plain, wooden puppet and it shows in the battle against Sakura and chiyo:

The duo singlehandedly managed to defeat all the plain wooden puppets in Sasori's arsenal, but had more trouble against the human puppets and Sasori himself, since they were more weaponized and 3rd kazekage's puppet literally controlled the Iron sand, which a normal puppet would be otherwise unable to do without having proper DNA and chakra signature to do so.

So looking at this whole human puppet situation from Sasori's or puppeteer's eyes, it's completely valid argument, that human puppets make better weapons than normal puppets.

Even in today's world irl, in war or battles, everyday moral compass doesn't apply to the soldiers, because they do whatever they have to, to defend their countries and territories, or take them.

Therefore, in Naruto universe, in sasori's eyes, wasting something that could be everlasting, at least last decades to come instead of rotting in the ground makes perfect sense. Sasori was a genius, because he knew the cost of war and he knew the basics of shinobi rules, one of them being: anything can be a weapon.

In his eyes, humans were flawed, therefore his training as a puppeteer under the great chiyo made him realize, that no matter how people look at you or judge you for your creations, things that would protect the said population, you had to do what you had to do to survive, especially under such harsh conditions of Sunakagure, where lands were nearly unfertile and they had to get by robbery or shinobi work.

Too bad he turned into a bad guy afterwards.

Wish they could make a horror movie with Sasori's puppets...

This is a bit of a leap, but it makes sense. Suna isn't exactly famous for magnet release. But the Rasa's family apparently is. So, one lineage makes sense given the size of the village. The Third had it, and so does Rasa, but they don't share much of a resemblance. However, Rasa does to Reto. Somehow they need to be connected on one lineage. There's other options within this. Given the difference in coloration, the Third might be Reto's wife's nephew, with both the wife and the Third bearing the magnet release from a common ancestor. Rasa's mother might also have borne the Magnet release, so Reto's wife may not be the carrier. In such a situation, the Third might be Rasa's maternal uncle. In this scenario, Reto's wife might be the carrier of the redhead gene, making for an additional parallel with Konoha's founding family.

Because who has red hair? The Uzumaki.

So a lot of people criticize Itachi Uchiha for spending all of that time in the Akatsuki as a spy yet he failed to report anything actually useful about them. My head cannon is that he reported useful stuff about them all of the time but the truth about the Akatsuki is so batshit crazy that the Leaf Village just assumed that Itachi lost all of his marbles because there is no way that all of the stuff he told them is true.

Here are my head cannon reports from Itachi on the Akatsuki.

- The leader of this organization is an actual dead corpse who goes by the name Pein. I think he is an actual corpse reanimated by a necromancer (and if he is I need to find out if he has free will or if he is being controlled). Perhaps someone stole the 2nd Hokage's Reanimation Jutsu, or they figured out another method of necromancy. He has eyes like a chameleon but I'm unsure the entirety of the abilities of his kekai genkai.

Leaf Village Reaction: *thinking this all sounds plausible enough* OH shit.

-The second in command is a kunoichi named Konan. Her body is made of paper and she likes to fold bits of herself into origami. She says that it helps keep her flexible. Her paper is also resistant against water, oils and flames. I'm unsure if it's a paper clone jutsu or if it's a kekai genkai.

Leaf Village Reaction: ? "Weird, but ok."

- Next is Sasori of the Red Sand. He is still alive, sort of. He has taken up the hobby of turning living people into puppets (thousands of them in fact) and he also somehow turned himself into a puppet? He also turned the 3rd Kazekage into a puppet.

Leaf Village Reaction: "Surely Itachi must be mistaken? It is not physically possible to turn yourself into a puppet and still be alive afterwards. Plus Sasori was just a teenager when the 3rd Kazekage went missing, no way is he responsible for it."

- Deidara is partnered with Sasori. Deidara has mouths on his hands that he uses to mold clay explosives. His hands are always wet with his hand mouth saliva and when Hidan irritates him he puts his hand mouth saliva all over his face. He specializes in long distance combat and is training specifically to counteract genjutsu.

Leaf Village Reaction: "Gross, was that one part necessary?! Plus none of our medical ninja have even heard of a birth defect like that."

-Kakazu is also still alive. He has 5 hearts that are encapsulated in tentacle monsters with face masks. When he thinks he is alone he let's them out of his body and plays with them like they are dogs. He has killed all of previous partners for annoying him so Pein found an immortal to be his partner. He only cares about money and he somehow is a master of all elements.

Leaf Village Reaction: "Bullshit. That old fuck should long dead by now and it's impossible for anyone to use more than 2, maybe 3 elements. It is unheard of for anyone to use all 5 plus how the fuck does he have 5 hearts in tentacle monster pets? Is this even from Itachi?"

-Hidan is immortal. He performs human sacrifices for his God Jashin by standing in a sigil and stabbing himself after licking his enemy's blood. The terrifying thing is his ritual actually inflicts damage upon his enemy instead of himself. Do not engage in short distance combat with him no matter what. Send only long distance specialists or genjutsu specialists. He is not very bright and has not noticed in the past when I have put him under innocent genjutsus to test him.

Leaf Village Reaction: "I don't think that is physically possible??? Plus immortality definitely isn't. "

-Kisame is my partner and he is half shark half man. His sword eats chakra and he is one of the 7 Swordsmen of the Mist. Despite being known as a friend killer he is actually really nice? I'm not sure if it's just a ploy or if the rumors are wrong, but he seems to be really loyal to me. I think he knows that I'm a spy but he hasn't said anything to anyone as far as I know. He wants to fight Might Guy again as he deems him a worthy opponent.

Leaf Village Reaction: *Already knowing Kisame is half shark because he is famous* "Shit, does this mean our operation has been compromised? Is this why all of this information seems kind of bogus?"

-Zetsu is the final member of the Akatsuki. He looks like a Venus fly trap and he can go through any object to spy on people. He likes to eat decaying corpses and seems to have multiple personalities.

Leaf Village Reaction: *Knowing that Kisame is half shark because of imperfect sage mode, but knowing that you can't learn sage mode from a plant* "OK this has to all be bullshit. Just toss the rest of the information Itachi gives us. This operation has been compromised somehow but we can't call him back to the Village because of all of the murder. Plus if he actually has gone crazy we definitely don't want him back."

Meanwhile Itachi was telling the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth but it's just so insane that no one believed him. They thought he either lost his marbles or that he had been exposed and his letters comprised somehow and that is why I believe despite having an actual spy inside of the organization that the Leaf Village didn't know shit.

Soooooo... Is no one gonna talk abt how sasori still has the 3rd kazekage's puppet? Akatsuki isn't a criminal organisation and neither is sasori a criminal, so I'm pretty confused on how he ended up with the puppet. Did the kazekage himself say he wanted to be a puppet or did sasori just steal his corpse???(that would be weird and I doubt suna would be chill with that) If it isn't 3rd's original body then what's the point in having the puppet since it won't have any special jutsu

No, that's a valid point and I forgot to get into it in the AU.

He had pernission to make him into a puppet, it's still seen as a little strange, but what happened was perfectly "legal" lol the kazekage trusted Chiyo and Sasori was already helping the village a lot.

How he died is what I don't have any specific idea for, but he agreed to let Chiyo and Sasori work on turning him into a puppet so that he could continue to help the village.

I suppose I could blame Rasa for his death too, but... that would be too convenient and I don't think he needs anymore crimes >:)

Bonus idea I just had: Chiyo used the puppet at first, but gifted it to Sasori once he joined the Akatsuki! ✨️

I saw your post about Gai being like Lee as a kid which confused me to no end. Because as far as I know from my previous Naruto dives, Gai used to be on the genjutsu track until the 3rd time he got punched in the face by an Uchiha. After that, he dedicated himself to being a taijutsu master. So your info about Gai being like Lee is another Kishi fuckup. Or my info is the fuckup. At this point I have no idea which was written over. I hate Kishi's inability to hold to a timeline/backstory.

50/50 odds it's a Kishi problem or a fanon mixup, but I *just* had to see the 4th war arc in all it's hideous, achingly slow glory and I promise that in *that*, Gai was not on genjutsu track. Gai was not only like Lee but he *flunked out* of Academy entrance exams and was not going to be allowed to be a ninja until he *successfully petitioned* to be allowed in as a pickup student(? whatever the term is for when a previously accepted student gets booted and a replacement is put in his place) on the grounds that he might not be able to do ninjutsu but he is able and willing to run a thousand laps around the Academy and do an equally insane number of pushups. And also will climb the academy building wall like a goblin so people will see his "LET ME INTO ACADEMY" banner.

And it worked. Because Sarutobi is seen watching Gai a few times before making contemplative noises.

So basically? The implication is that Lee only got *into* Academy in the first place because Gai, as a child, managed to convince the Hokage himself through sheer stubbornness that taijutsu only shinobi was a valid career path and an exception was essentially written into the books where there hadn't been one before.

Because the "ninja who can't do ninjutsu" is not a normal thing. There's a (mostly painful) filler arc in the 4th war going over chuunin exams in Suna, and while only some of the eps are worth watching, there's a mini arc about Team Gai meeting a Suna team with a boy who *also* has the same disability as Lee and Gai. He cannot use ninjutsu or genjutsu but he's stubborn and good at Taijutsu. The thing is, that kid was never allowed into academy. Ever. No exceptions. The only reason he's a shinobi in the filler arc is because he stubbornly kept training taijutsu on his own time and accidentally ended up getting Gaara's attention while Gaara was Kazekage. Gaara asked for taijutsu lessons and, once impressed, decided that the boy reminded him of Lee and deserved to be a shinobi, and so was made a genin on the spot. It's a fun story, and I know it's not canon, but it makes for interesting worldbuilding because it hammers home the idea that there are not only other people like Gai and Lee in the world with some kind of chakra based disability, but that most ninja villages won't give them the time of day because *they didn't have a Might Gai* to aggressively pushup his way into impressing the local Kage.

I'd also hazard a guess, in a mythical world where worldbuilding is something Kishi actually cares about, that there's now an official *alternate exam* for academy students who struggle with jutsu where they can pass if they instead make up for it with high enough marks in taijutsu, written stuff, and probably like- raw endurance/insane number of pushups and laps. Something to prove you can compensate for your chakra trouble.

And that if such an alt exam exists (points at Lee for evidence it has to) then Mizuki intentionally either hid this from Iruka or him and all the other teachers somehow got Naruto banned from using it. That or it's something the student has to *request* to take instead of the standard graduation exam, and Mizuki ensured that Naruto never knew it existed, which is why Naruto still had to fail at ninjutsu instead of just pull a Lee and use his jinchuuriki endurance to graduate the alternate way.

Today, Baki came to me with a request. I'm not allowed to tell my siblings, yet, I feel I have no one else to turn to.

I feel trapped, the choices presented to me not really feeling like choices, the judgement and crisis if refused inevitable.

The village is still in shambles, the people panicking and anxious for what's to come. We don't even know what's coming. The elders are shocked and desperately trying to keep the chain of command, or what's left of it, intact.

With the Kazekage dead, his responsibilities have fallen to us, though obviously, we are currently incapable of handling such affairs. Temari and Kankuro are grieving. I'm not sure how I feel, but every time I look either of them in the eyes, I feel my sins crawling on my back and my consciousness eating me alive. I have no idea what's going through Gaara's mind, he does appear to be in thought most of the time though.

I had hoped that after the Chuunin exams, I could retire as a shinobi. But with Gaara's change of heart, I am unable to continue my path. New, unexpected pressure has revealed itself to me and in hindsight I think myself naive.

I can't say that this recent change has altered my approach towards Gaara, but I have been watching him more closely lately. He's expressed desire to become Kazekage, which is the reason Baki came to me in the first place.

Perhaps I still blame him, perhaps I blame him even more now that he's come to his senses. First he ruins my life, and now I'm expected to fix his.

The plan is simple, but will take a long time to successfully execute. Considering the ANBU captain is allowed to sit with the Kazekage and the elders when making decisions regarding the village, I am to attain this position. Once I do, gain the others' trust, influence their decision against making Gaara Kazekage.

Once executed, I am expected to keep up the facade towards my siblings, essentially forever.

At this moment in time, I have yet been told why it necessary this mission take place, but Baki said he'd explain further details once I have made my decision.

Every fiber in my being screams I don't want this, my anger towards Gaara still too apparent to be able to bring myself to help him.

But I'm curious...

Perhaps, I too could have what they have...

But time has proven again and again, I'm simply someone people would rather stay away from. I don't see why he would choose me back.

Thought! 3rd Kazekage gets critically injured in battle- knows he doesn't have much time left. Or maybe he develops a chakra disease. As he's known as the strongest he gives his permission to chiyo and sasori because he wanted a way to continue using his strength to protect the village?
