Someone please direct me towards Allan Cubitts social media Profil because I HAVE to know of him giving John a non book accurate love interest and still letting it end with: „for me, there still remains the cocaine bottle“ (a quote from TSOF which is actually about Mary) was a sign that they planned a third movie

Bold = Top Ten
Some notes: I’ve been going through one of those periods where I just wasn’t feeling it maaaan with regards to films and tumblr. Other things consumed my attention (Auriel's Bow isn't going to fetch itself from the Forgotten Vale) and at times it felt a struggle to watch and post. Still...
Anyway here’s one of those fancy two month Film Logs last seen in August/September 2022 only this time there’s a Top Ten compiled from both months. A few TV things make it into the list. I’m sometimes unsure about putting TV in the *Film* Log but The End of the F***ing World is great and I was very taken with Behind Her Eyes because it actually surprised me in the direction it took, such an unusual experience nowadays, plus the two female leads were very attractive. Hey, I’m only human, like Phil Oakey.

Victim Support Europe (VSE)

After a rewatch, I am now on a quest to find the book Joe reads to Artie (38:48)
-
-
-
-
(Hopefully by this point you’ve finished all 99 minutes of ‘The Boys Are Back’ , the kind of person who isn’t bothered by spoilers, or are just deciding if you still want to keep watching.)
-
-
-
-
-
A pleasant surprise: the score was from Sigur Ros (and there’s actually an album released!)
--------
HIGHLIGHT:
INT. THE WARR HOME (KITCHEN) - DAY
ARTIE rides his bike while JOE finishes work on his laptop
JOE (VO) "Mrs. Darling first heard of Peter when she was tidying up her children's minds."
INT. THE WARR HOME (JOE'S ROOM) - DAY
JOE and ARTIE are asleep: JOE's feet hanging off the edge of the bed with ARTIE in his arms. A gentle breeze nudges the curtain.
INT. LAND ROVER - SUNSET
JOE drives along the beach. ARTIE sits on the vehicle's bonnet and cheers.
INT. LAND ROVER - LATER
ARTIE fires his water pistol at his dad, playfully trying to get away. JOE fires back with his own.
JOE (VO) "It is the nightly custom of every good mother after her children are asleep to rummage in their minds and put things straight for the next morning..."
INT. THE WARR HOME (LOUNGE ROOM) - NIGHT
Father and son lay snuggled on the lounge. ARTIE has his eyes closed. His head on JOE's chest. The book in question is propped up on his lap as JOE continues reading. An pizza box is at their feet, evidence of what was for dinner.
JOE "...repacking into their proper places the many articles that have wandered during the day."
JOE turns the page and checks to see if the audience of one has fallen asleep.
ARTIE Don't stop.
The boy opens his eyes and watches the page, on a mission.
JOE Close those peepers.
ARTIE obliges and starts to drift off.
JOE "If you could keep awake, but, of course, you can't..."
--------
My verdict of the film: 8/10 (even as a rewatch)
Link to the timestamp commentary: TBA (Though there’s a chance my first viewing predated the exercise)

Cubitt had no interest in it even when there were room for more Stella Reed scenes. It will forever annoy me he cut off and didn't show anything leading up to Gibson almost falling asleep on Reed's office sofa and where were they going? What did they speak of? It would have been nice to see it on the screen and not just have to assume they had afterwork drinks and conversations similar to the previous ones.
This last scene between them felt so “unfinished”, I’m almost certain Cubitt had written more Stella X Reed scenes but couldn’t film them because Archie had to leave to go film San Andreas. Stella and Reed were definitely going somewhere together, as Stella fell asleep on the sofa waiting for her. It always felt like a scene was missing to wrap up this one.
In any case, this is not how a director ends up a character arc. Every other main character had their story wrapped up, some in more satisfying ways than others. Ferrington got a hug, Chewtoy got his arm broken trying to save Stella but didn’t get a goodbye scene. Burns lost his job. Rose read a story to her daughter. Eastwood, damn, I can’t remember what’s Eastwood’s last scene… but anyway, all the main characters got an ending, except Reed who simply vanished from the show. Which is why I feel this must not have been Cubitt’s intention to end things this way, and why I do not blame him for the lack of Stella X Reed following 2X03. He did say in an interview how much he’d love to write more for Archie, or something around those lines. The interview is on my blog somewhere, I’ll try to find it again.
Blame Archie’s sucky filming schedules, it was all a case of Bad Timing.

This anonymous piece of poetry entered my thoughts when I was feeling my way towards a key moment between Spector and Mark Bailey that would also provide me with Spector's last words, a kind of epitaph. Jamie performed it brilliantly on the day, Conor's response in listening was also perfect: spell-bound and frightened simultaneously, like a predator and his prey. By signing his journal, Spector acknowledges his own twisted celebrity but it is also a death sentence on Bailey. The piece juxtaposes reason and unreason, rational and irrational thought, method and wildness so effectively. There's a deranged nightmarish quality that seemed to fit Spector's darkening mood, a kind of obsessive causality that made it feel right that he had memorised it at some point in his life. Overall it reflects his long-standing double life and seems tinged with a kind of sadness and suffering. The resolution is a death sentence on them both. Chilling.
