nine books
fine, you win @cha-melodius, @tintagel-or-cockleshells, @kiwiana-writes, @clottedcreamfudge, @cricketnationrise, @liminalmemories21 @sherryvalli I will share nine favourites books/authors I will read no questions asked (aka Lims' variation), despite the fact that every time I get tagged I forget every book I’ve ever read.
with the somewhat shameful admission that I have read only one actual book in the last 12ish months 🙈 (but many hundreds of thousands of words of fanfic), in no particular order:
Red, White & Royal Blue - Casey McQuiston: no explanation necessary, right? This book is everything to me for so many reasons, not least that it brought me some of the best people I know 💖
Pride & Prejudice - Jane Austen: I read this for school in year 9 and fell in love with romance as a genre. I reread it at least once a year for a very long time.
Song of the Lioness Quartet - Tamora Pierce (and all of the books set in Tortall tbh): yes, this is a series. Alanna and her adventures are very dear to my heart, and I love that in recent years, the author has said that if she was writing the books now, she’d probably describe Alanna as non-binary but she didn’t have that language when she wrote the books in the 80s. I’m very excited to introduce this quartet to my eldest soon.
The Hunger Games - Suzanne Collins: for a while, I devoured pretty much YA dystopian fiction book out there and this is the best of them. I’ve read them many times, and they hold a special place in my heart because they were a familiar, comforting reread at a very difficult time in my life.
The Snail & the Whale - Julia Donaldson: a children’s picture book, yes. But I’ve read it aloud hundreds of times to my kids and it’s just such a beautiful story about seeing the wonders of the world from a new perspective. It’s got such a lovely cadence and rhythm to it too, when read aloud.
Something Wild & Wonderful - Anita Kelly: aka the one (1) book I’ve read recently. I preordered this because I really enjoyed her other book, Love & Other Disasters, but it sat unread on my kindle for months until a friend mentioned that they’d started it. A quick look at the blurb gave me similar vibes to Fifteen Hundred Miles, one of my all time favourite Schitt’s Creek fics, so I started it and I could barely put it down! I sobbed for the last 60 pages or so - sad and then happy tears and it was wonderful.
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo - Taylor Jenkins Reid: I loved everything about this. Compelling storytelling, with an imperfect protagonist who you hope succeeds despite her flaws.
and two authors who I’d read anything they published, without question:
Casey McQuiston - they haven’t failed me yet. I didn’t like I Kissed Shara Wheeler as much as RWRB and One Last Stop, but it was a good read and had characters who I love (Smith, my beloved). For a while there, I was convinced that it was going to take CMQ4 to break my book drought.
Alexis Hall - Boyfriend Material was the first book of his that I read, and I quickly read a lot of his back catalogue along with everything he’s published since and there’s nothing I’ve read that I haven’t enjoyed immensely. Plus, when I was on Twitter, I soon learned that Alexis loves to have a conversation almost entirely in Schitt’s Creek gifs and anyone who does that immediately endears themselves to me 😅
no pressure tagging: @pragmatic-optimist @nelsonnicholas @indomitable-love @welcometololaland @celeritas2997 @danieljradcliffe @howtosingit @swearphil @stereopticons (have another tag 😂) @reasonandfaithinharmony @guardian-angle22 @never-blooms

I guess this sounds silly, but... do you think a cishet man can write good fanfic? I've been trying for years now, and I can just never get the emotions to rise properly, or the prose to flow right. All the good writers I know - hell, every other fanfic writer I know - is female or queer in one way or another, and when I try asking them for advice they all say contradicting things about how to make a story work (or even just why they're proud of writing).
--
Ahahahaha. Is this for real? I hope so because it's charmingly facepalm-inducing.
What you're basically asking is "Can cishet men write?" and the answer is obviously yes. Lots and lots and lots of professional writers are cishet men, and I'm sure at least some of them seem good to you.
Fanfic comes in a variety of types. I'm going to guess you've been exposed to the sort of thing people call "AO3 house style". So we're talking shippy fic or very feelsy gen hurt/comfort. There might be a plot, but relationship development often takes center stage.
This is as opposed to, say, a 100k plot epic about Ranma time traveling and leveling up into an even bigger badass. There used to be a lot of those on Usenet. I'm sure the Naruto equivalent is well represented on FFN. Stereotypically, lots of these are by cishet men, and some are well written. Aesthetically, they seem to be pulling from airport thrillers and dude adventure fiction.
AO3 house style, though, owes a lot to "chick" genres. Do you, cishet man anon, read lots of romance novels? Did you grow up on Georgette Heyer? Jane Austen? Do you watch romcoms? Do you read trashy Anita Blake style urban fantasy? Books from the YA boom? Agatha Christie and other cozy mysteries if you're going for something plottier? Hell, Buffy, even, which was written by Joss.
Most people are not great writers until they've had a lot of practice, and maybe not even then. If you're less good than your friends, that doesn't mean anything about cishet men's ability or even about your personal level of talent. It means we're hypercritical of our own work and that everybody could always use more practice.
But on top of that, if you grew up reading stereotypically male genres and you are now trying to recreate the emotional beats of stereotypically female ones, you may be behind on your research compared to those other writers.
It takes a long time for all of the media we consume to percolate, and a lot of the stronger fic writers are going back to Heyer et al., not just taking their inspiration from other fics. If you haven't had that time for fic styles to sink in and if you don't have that background exposure to other media, then it's not at all surprising if you're struggling to hit the emotional beats you want to.
Good prose is mostly just about practice, but exposure to media you want to imitate helps there too.
Yes, cishet men can write, you doofus. Have a little faith in yourself!

I'm back on my video creation nonsense again. While I'm still waiting for the day my fanfic will see the light, the Anita brainrot is also still going strong. So, have this Don/Anita creation I slapped together. "Slapped together" might really be the best way to describe this because gathering scenes on YouTube for this was hard and so figuring out how to make do with what I had was an adventure. But nonetheless, I hope you enjoy this!
Fun fact, the song featured in this was also the inspiration for one of my favourite scenes in the fanfic
Song: School Nights by Chappell Roan
Characters:
Donald "Don" Malarkey (Band of Brothers)
Anita Reed (OC, Faceclaim: Ana de Armas)

!! 13+ !! Diego Elena Mateo – Someone Like You sequel to “Self Control” !! 13+ !!
Male cover by David Neil.
Base plot based on PizzaNSunshine's fanfic "To Heal A Shattered Heart" .
---
The plot switches between the present (Diego's parts) and past (Mateo's parts, the slightly pitched male segments). Memories are visually marked by a white, foggy frame.
PLOT in chronological order:
- The night of Elena's coronation she confesses her love to Mateo, leading to them spending the night together (not shown)
- The next say the new Queen's Council has invited the Ambassador of Espania with the marriage proposal from Don Diego.
 - Elena tries to fight for her relationship with Mateo but eventually has no choice in the future of the kingdom.
- To prevent breaking the alliance, Elena and Mateo agree to avoid each other and only meet on professional terms as Queen and Royal Wizard. Both are heartbroken and have a tearful goodbye.
 - Don Diego arrives with great expectations, having read about Elena's brave and cheerful character and her adventures in order to become Queen. Both having grown up at royal courts, Diego expects to meet a kindred spirit.
 - He is surprised to find a Queen full of fake cheerfulness and sad eyes and tries to cheer her up
-At the wedding Elena puts on a smile and even starts a conversation with Diego. But as soon as she spots Mateo in the crowd, she is drawn to him.
- despite their agreement they meet by chance in the garden. Elena's magic reacts instantly, first making a rose bush a big heart and then creating a bolt of raw energy when the mutual shock sets in after they had gotten too close.
- the encounters happen more often until Elena meets Mateo in an empty hallway and they nearly kiss each other.
- Driven by guilt, Elena confesses to Diego that she nearly betrayed him by kissing Mateo.
- Surprisingly, Diego suggests to make Mateo Elena's official lover, a common understanding on the continent (like in "The Tudors").
- At first, Elena is appalled by the concept but quickly intrigued, when she sees how relaxed Diego is. He wants her to become the strong woman again he heard so much about.
 - Elena surprises Mateo with Naomi's help and they are in a happy, semiofficial relationship while Elena is still married to Diego for the sake of Avaloran politics.
- One week later Elena discovers her pregnancy, the father being obvious considering the circumstances.
- According to Diego's deal, the daughter is officially part of the Royal Family. Crown Princess Anita grows up with three parents: Elena, Mateo and Diego.
- Meanwhile, Diego has caught the eye of Carmen, the palace gardener and both couples are happy together while the political agreement is kept.
 - At official parties Elena officially attends again as Diego’s wife and when Anita is officially presented as heir both Diego and Elena proclaim it proudly while Elena shared a secret smile with Mateo.

Some fanfic spoilers for interested
Hi, with things going on in the world and in my life I wasn’t really up to writing lately that much (and WIPs won’t stop haunting me). Anyway, thought I would share some random things I planned to implement in one of my fanfics, “Love And Marriage”. For those who don’t know this, it’s basically timkon married!AU, with no one main plot, but rather bunch of stand alone scenes and stories in Tim’s and Conner’s married life.
Anyway, under the cut is bunch of headcanons and weird little things I was thinking on including in this fic. Why am I listing those at all? Because I’m bored, that’s why.
Kon has lots of piercings. The amount and places is still not specified, but Conner Kon-El “I can look better with jewelry than you, Anita” Kent likes his piercings and Tim is happy to buy him what he likes.
Tim may know what to buy Conner jewelry-wise for gala or something, but for more casual look he refers to Anita and Bart.
and also to the second older Tim that somehow landed in this universe (and not really planning to go back), who’s also the owner of jewelry shop the married!Tim secretly shops in for gifts for his husband.
other-universe!Tim wasn’t in love with his universe Kon, but rather Cassie. He still doesn’t shares what had happened and why he doesn’t want to come back (maybe he can’t? idk)
both Tims met by accident when married!Tim wasn’t even engaged - was starting to think about marriage and all that - and was window-shopping some engagement rings of this one specific shop. Shop belonged to o-u!Tim, who upon landing here, somehow learnt about some organized kryptonite black market and wanted to get more inside info.
upon seeing not-yet-married!Tim in front of his shop, other-universe!Tim decided to reveal himself, because “screw this! both of me will solve this quicker!”
in the end, o-u!Tim runs the shop, is housing Red Lanter Dex Star and Blue Lanter Corgi of Hope (does it have different name???), is happy that this universe Tim is the only one knowing his true identity and isn’t in hurry to reveal himself to Bats and JL (and what for? he’s just living calm, happy life here, man), and is charging married!Tim twice the amount for anything embedded with blue kryptonite, because “yes, I’ll do it and no, I don’t care it’s only for a simple ring, you would find a way to make it nsfw this universe me, I know you and myself, and I don’t want to even think bout it, stop it, I don’t want to think about my bff that way >:(“
something else now
Jason is famous crime-novels writer. His novels are so realistic, some fans believe the author worked in law-enforcement of some kind. He never yet showed his face to the public.
His pen name is something like “Jason Peters” and all his friends and family know that it is him. Especially Bats, because they recognize some of the cases (most of them are mix of various cases).
Bats respect that Jason needs some privacy gathering information for the books, however... Look, they are fan of his books, love the challenge it gives them, but are not afraid to bother him until he reveals something
it became family game - “who can solve the case in latest of Jason’s book first” (Jason of course judges and also takes bets.) Time starts with book official release.
Jason, while he’s in better contact with his family, doesn’t want his writer fame being associated with the Wayne name. But. He once told his manager that the true reason he knows most of this stuff he writes about was truly because he’s deceased and miraculously revived Jason Todd-Wayne who spend years after his revival with international mafia.
His manager laughed at this, not believing, but it didn’t worsen their working relationship. Peters was fun and quirky guy after all.
That was until they planned collab with other famous writer who didn’t like showing his face (and for whom I have no pen name)
The other author is Kon
He specifies in adventure as a genre. Sometimes those are also sci-fi.
And while Kon and Jason respects each others writing skills, and are aware they are curating for different fanbase, there’s some kind of rivalry going on
Because most of their family and friends are more often reading Jason’s books than his (Damn you on-going bet! Damn you!)
and because his lest-favorite brother in-law, whom he still didn’t forgive for injuring his husband (I don’t care you forgive him, Tim, Honey), and who sometimes makes fun at him whenever there’s family diner, is sometimes beating him up in book sales.
Damn you, Jason Todd! - Kon, probably
anyway, I don’t have much plans for this now, but I thought the meeting for theoretical colab would take place at Tim’s and Kon’s place.
the atmosphere is so tense you can cut it with a knife
Jason’s manager is a little in awe because that’s Timothy Drake-Wayne here??? What’s next, Beyonce???
funny story, because Tim “yes, hello, but please, I’m Timothy Kent(???)” Drake-Wayne says that Jason here is actually his older brother and both authors besides them confirm this
both managers currently: :O
Jason’s manager: WAIT, you want to teLL ME, that you didn’t lie about that dying and being Wayne stuff??!?!
Jason “Did I ever lied to you, Benny?” Todd-Wayne
Kon’s manager: yoU DIED??!!
Jason: That part in ‘xxx’ book about crawling from one’s grave was based on authentic facts :) Besides, I’m not the only one writing based on life experience. :) Ask Conner about his time in space with Justice League :)
Kon, muttering: I hope cow would shit on you, Todd
meanwhile, Tim in the kitchen, trying not to hit his head on the wall repeatedly: come on, Tim, Alfred prepared you for this! >:( You will be perfect host and none of this shit currently happening will move or visibly stress you out! >:( You will not cry and call Alfred for help! >:( But would it be proper, if I bring out alcohol earlier???
I have few more ideas for this fic, but those were the wildest ones currently, I guess.
Thoughts?

I have a couple of Descendants fics that I’ve written/am currently writing if any of you want to check them out. Note: I am not claiming that they’re good, they just exist. Also, they’re all on a site called Quotev which I don’t hear people talk about very often but if enough people are interested, I might put them on AO3/fanfic.net too.
And I think they all include musical numbers and all of the canon ships (Bal, Devie, Janlos, and Huma which is canon don’t fight me) which I know is a very dividing thing in the fandom but I did it anyways.
First up is Poison to the Core, which was written to a sequel to the original Descendants that takes place two years after the first movie. The events of D2 and D3 didn’t happen in this, since I wrote it about a month after D1 was released. It revolves around the next five VKs chosen to come to Auradon: Jaime, the daughter of Captain Hook, Sally, the daughter of Ursula, Hart, the son of the Queen of Hearts, Haddie, the daughter of Hades, and Gavin, the son of Gaston (the names are horrible leave me alone) and they go on a similar journey to goodness as the core four. Jaime is the main character, and lived in Neverland with her mother and father for 11 years up until her mom got pregnant with her younger sister, then after complications with the birth, her mom died and the rest of them got sent to the Isle. Jaime learns some interesting things about her heritage and how everything is not what it seems, and there’s also a love plot because this is Descendants and daughter of Hook vs daughter of Peter Pan conflict because it’s Descendants and there pretty much has to be. ( https://www.quotev.com/story/6704759/Poison-to-the-Core-a-Descendants-fanfic )
There’s a sequel to Poison to the Core called Good is the New Bad where a lot more VKs are invited over to Auradon Prep and mayhem ensues as they plot to bring down Auradon. The main antagonists are all of Hans and Anastasia’s kids (because Lady Tremaine wanted her daughter to snag a prince). There’s also a Jaime having a mental breakdown, Elsa’s daughter figure skating, and a battle of the bands subplot. I kinda abandoned it and there’s only a few chapters written so far but I might return to it one day? ( https://www.quotev.com/story/8578567/Good-Is-The-New-Bad-Sequel-to-Poison-to-the-Core/1 )
I recently started The Right Side of Wrong, which I refer to as Hook Kids in my head because guess what, Jaime got another story due to the fact that I love her. This takes place concurrently with the events of Descendants 2, with Jaime as the younger sister of Harriet, Harry, and CJ. She’s the leader of a crew that includes her four friends from Poison to the Core, but this time they’re related to Uma, Gil, and Mal. I wrote this selfishly because I wanted more Hook siblings content, and also more Huma.( https://www.quotev.com/story/12483566/The-Right-Side-of-Wrong-Descendants-2 )
This one is finally not about Jaime, but still takes place in Descendants 2. The daughter of Lumiere and Plumette is Ben’s best friend since childhood and advisor with all of his royal responsibilities. She follows Ben, Evie, Jay, and Carlos to get Mal to return to Auradon. When Ben is kidnapped, she goes undercover as a VK to get intel they can use to get him back safely, and maybe she falls for Gil in the process. It also goes a lot into Gil’s backstory and the Uma vs Mal rivalry which were two things that were really fun for me to explore. This might be my favorite thing I’ve written so far? I’m also planning on writing a sequel for it but that hasn’t happened yet. ( https://www.quotev.com/story/9976303/Rite-of-Passage-Descendants-2 )
Another self indulgent fanfic I’ve started with a kinda cheesy premise is Beauty and the Thief (feel free to cringe). Ben’s twin sister Rosaline is older than him by a few minutes, and set to take the throne of the United States of Auradon in a few months. For her first proclamation, she invites over four teenagers from the Isle of the Lost, but this time, Jafar is the most powerful villain, not Maleficent. Because let’s be real, a grand vizier, sorcerer, and all powerful genie with political ambitions is likely more powerful than a woman who cursed a baby because she didn’t get invited to the party. Fight me on it (but not literally I’m both emotionally and physically fragile). Rosaline is dating Chad at the start of the fic, and he’s an even bigger jerk than he was in the movies and I love hating him in this. There’s also other original characters that are the kids of Cinderella and Prince Charming, Snow White and Florian, Aladdin and Jasmine, and Roger and Anita, and a girls’ night truth or dare scene that honestly I might just post on here because Lonnie dare’s are *chef’s kiss*. ( https://www.quotev.com/story/12231220/Beauty-and-the-Thief-Descendants/1 )
Finally, there’s a book of what was supposed to be a series of oneshots with Descendants ships/characters with plots inspired by songs off of Taylor Swift’s album Lover but so far it’s just Huma inspired by Cornelia Street. It’s also 20 pages long. Oops? It takes place post D3 with them trying to navigate this new stage in their relationship/actually admitting that they have feelings for each other in the midst of trying to find their footing in Auradon. Gil also makes many appearances after returning  from adventures with Jay (and he might become dog dad Gil who knows) and honestly I’m really happy with how this turned out, and I’m eventually going to write more with the other 17 songs on the album but that hasn’t happened yet. ( https://www.quotev.com/story/12153997/Lover-Descendants-One-Shots )

I’ve been losing my mind over the hints at Bloodhound’s backstory that it’s unreal. So I wrote a lengthy blog entry about it. It’s at 1,711 words under the Read More.
(If you see this post on @bloodhound-and-jackrabbit, don’t worry, that’s my sideblog!)
Alright. Anyone who knows me, within the Apex fandom and outside of it too, knows that I am in love with Bloodhound. The season 3 launch is killing me! But don’t worry! I only have good things to talk about it!
A bit of a background: I was into playing Overwatch from late October 2018 to May 2019 thanks to my ex. But it wasn’t until I saw someone tweet about a new video game franchise having a canonically nonbinary character. Unfortunately, I felt like the genre wouldn’t be my cup of tea as I have minimal experience with battle royales, let alone FPS. The teaser trailer did manage to convince me otherwise with its diverse cast of characters, fast pacing, and killer song choice. I didn’t pick up the game until the end of February, which was a few days after my ex dumped me. I needed a distraction from it; so hell, why not play that hot new game?
I launch the game and don’t think too much, selecting the Tutorial mode, because of course, it’s a brand new game with different controls and mechanics from Overwatch. Imagine my surprise that I see the very Legend who’s piqued my interest in the series in the first place! After the Tutorial, I try the regular Play mode and got matched up with someone playing as Mirage. Unfortunately, I wasn’t doing so well, and I was nervous about speaking on mic at the time as I sound too feminine to be read as androgynous. I don’t remember much besides dying in a skirmish and being unable to use ziplines as they weren’t a part of the tutorial. After that match, I spent the remaining time checking out Bloodhound in the Legends gallery. What stood out the most for me were their quips or voicelines; a lot of them were very comforting for me to hear, especially in a low point of my life.
Weeks later, I was still talking to my ex, but it was clear that things were completely different than before. I played Overwatch without him anyway, but it wasn’t the same. I was still unable to come to terms that I do have somewhat of a crush on Bloodhound until early June; I had a dream that the two of us were alone in the woods, and they found it safe to take off their helmet and mask around me. They revealed themself as an androgynous black person with short, curly red hair, and I kissed them on the cheek. Two more dreams would succeed that:  one where we were both dressed in black and red suits on a date, and the other one was…it ended up being not safe for work, to say the least. These all lead me to formulating a self-insert fanfic, and then finally giving Apex a second chance just so I can figure out the lore and feel of the game. Initially, if I have not gotten into Overwatch, I wouldn’t have considered playing Apex Legends even if I learned there was a nonbinary character.
Within the past 3 months, Bloodhound has been a comforting character for me. They were absolutely relatable to someone like me; besides the fact that they’re nonbinary, they also happened to be a pagan with an affinity for birds, sharp objects, and mortality.
The main catalyst for writing this post is the season 3 launch. Last week, when the launch trailer debuted, I lost sleep over seeing Bloodhound sharpening their handy hunting knife with a whetstone as they’re surrounded by numerous candles in their dropship room. The very scene made me fall even harder with them, as I too have always loved candles, and even more so when I started identifying as a pagan since last year. However, it was the season launch itself that made me even more anxious.
During the past 3 months I’ve immersed myself into the fandom, I’ve come up with multiple headcanons for Bloodhound, a great portion of them never having been published here on Tumblr or discussed publicly, the most notable being their backstory: I’ve figured that Bloodhound would have an Afro-Latina/Filipina biological mother (Nimfa Vilhjalmsdottir) who remarried to a white man named Sigurdur (Sigurdur Steinnson), thus Bloodhound ending up with a meathead stepbrother named Albert. The parents had a military background, and they all lived on a planet with a high population of humans of Icelandic or Nordic descent. As a kid, Bloodhound was kind of an oddball, preferring to spend lengthy periods of time outdoors and exploring the woods or reading books about fantasy and adventure. One time, little Bloodhound was flocked by an unkindess of ravens, much to their parents’ concern. As they grew older, they became more and more visibly uncomfortable with their birth gender, and their stepfather’s pressure on them to join the military. As Bloodhound turned 18, the tension between them and their stepfather grew, thus prompting them ran away from home and join a group of ragtag freedom fighters dedicated to preserving the Frontier lands from militarization and imperialism. Eventually, Bloodhound would end up knocking at death’s door in the middle of the woods after a young Anita Williams snipes them from a distance. This would be a turning point in their life, where they’d meet the Allfather and promise to be devoted to him. Coming back to the mortal realm, Bloodhound sees that their group has lost the battle, and decided to go into hiding, hopping from planet to planet to run away from their past.
However, it was teased that Bloodhound’s parents are named Johann and Brigida, and that they’re probably both scientists and not war veterans. Not disapproving or judgmental of their child’s gender of interests, as far as the loading screen with Johann’s letter to Brigida suggests. I would be fine with this, but it opens up a new can of worms for me.
Before I point what these potential worms would be, let me remind you that the new season dropped at the same time I had my psychiatrist appointment where I finally brought my mom over to talk with her about me, thus revealing that what I originally speculated was completely wrong.
Okay, here’s the can of worms: Johann and Brigida, and Artur to an extent, are very “white” sounding names. I would be lying if I denied that I didn’t speculate Bloodhound as a white person during the first few weeks after the game’s release. If the races of Bloodhound and their relatives were revealed to be all white, I’m worried that it’s going to cement the falsehood of Vikings or Norse pagans as being exclusively white, which was not the case in reality. I’m worried that Bloodhound being revealed as explicitly white would mean that they would be co-opted as white supremacist symbol because a sizeable amount of neo-Nazis/white supremacists/bigots practice Norse Paganism (which I learned the hard way a few weeks back).
Another concern would be Bloodhound getting a face reveal, which would undermine a lot of fans’ headcanons for them, mine included.  The headcanons are as diverse as the Apex Legends cast itself and a lot of heart and soul have been poured out into them, so catastrophe is inevitable if the official unmasked!Bloodhound face will be revealed.
On the bright side, there are some things I hope will be executed instead of my worries. Bloodhound and their relatives are never portrayed explicitly, and are instead, shown as silhouettes, in addition to them never getting their face shown even when they have removed their helmet and mask. Another thing that would be nice to see is that they’d be ambiguously brown; Bloodhound being ambiguously brown would help break many stereotypes about them as a person, one of which is that one has to be white to be a Norse pagan, which is an open practice, anyway, and that Vikings have traveled across the globe and intermingled with different civilizations, meaning that a white viking homogeneity is racist and historically inaccurate. Besides, names like Johann, Artur, and Brigida can be just as white a name as Elizabeth Harris (that’s Cupcakke the rapper’s real name by the way!). It would also be a relief if the writers pull a Riley Cavanaugh and never hint at Bloodhound’s birth gender and keep them as androgynous as possible.
It’s also been speculated that Johann and Artur are Icelandic, and that Brigida is Italian, meaning that Bloodhound is potentially mixed-race. Let’s not forget that Apex Legends takes place in the 28th century, and people of all races are in space. Sure, there’s space ableism and imperialism, and to an extent, transphobia, but it would be unrealistic for racial homogeny to still exist.
Bloodhound has been a great source of comfort for me these past few months. I see so much of myself in them: besides being nonbinary, I’m also a pagan who venerates a psychopomp, love books and birds, introverted but sympathetic of others, and unashamed of my identity. I’ve seen my confidence spike upwards, knowing that a person like them exists. That I am much more than my weaknesses and how people perceive me. That I still have so much to live for. That I am not alone.
Before I end, I’m actually glad that Bloodhound grew up with a loving and accepting family, and thus destroying what projection of my hurt I have on them; I assumed that my mom would be immensely disappointed in me being nonbinary and bi, so I wanted someone who would be going through the same predicament as me, so that there’ll be some common ground. But it seems we do have enough common ground, having scientist parents who moved to a different place from my place of birth. Last August, my psychiatrist asked me how can I be a happy nonbinary person, in a world that sees everything in a male/female dichotomy? Perhaps I’ve found my answer in the form of Bloodhound.
If you have reached this paragraph, thank you so much for taking the time to read my post in its entirety. I just want to get my feelings off my chest, as Bloodhound has been very important to me.
Have you any questions or reactions, please feel free to message me!

What makes a book boring to read?
I think that is very subjective and really depends on the person.
For me e.g. Stephen King writes the most boring books, because:
Too much description of unnecessary things. I know what a forest looks like, he doesn’t have to describe every detail, if it doesn’t add something important.
Only doing factual descriptions. Like describing every colour, but not writing how a character feels like or thinks.
Too much foreshadowing. He tells at the beginning of the book that later something will happen then and there and then this foreshadowing happens three more times, until it actually happens and
The important plot progress is sidelined in three sentences.
And in general.
I often have a problem with anything that leads nowhere. Like if something describes a totally normal day, that is fine, but then this has to serve some purpose. Maybe highlight that the rest isn’t that normal or that something impacts it. Or even the normal day is already the adventure, because the characters experience it as such. Like in Astrid Lindgren’s books, where something like going to school in a snowy day is an adventure for the children and you see it through their eyes.
Too much sex. You might not think it possible, but then try reading Anita Blake novels. From book 10 on or so, you can’t find the plot between the sex scenes and it is the worst thing ever, because they are something like fantasy crime novels, but you then have “murder victim” blow job on the crime scene “we need to interrogate witnessess” threesome in the back of the car. It is absolutely boring and annoying. And I find the problem sometimes in fanfics as well. When people are constantly distracted from important things with sex. And at one point the fanfic starts to consist of “sex - food - sex - shower” instead of plot. Like PWP is great, but not if you had a plot and then totally forget about that after someone read 100.000 words and the plot is not resolved.
It’s not so much about the topic. Ken Follett managed to have me excited if two more rows of stones will be finished by the end of the year in The Pillars of the Earth, because it was exciting for the characters and he managed to convey that importance.
In The Name of the Rose there is suddenly the 100 page interjection about the history of all religious orders, but again, the character telling you this has this as his life-story and so it is interesting, because the character is excited about it.
So yeah, in short I’m all about characters and plot and am sometimes bored by anything that distracts from it. But that’s me.

Anyone else get the feeling that Peggy was the spoiled youngest child who could get away with anything(including having a surprise out of wedlock baby with a married dude) and her sister is super bitter about it?
I can imagine Anita once had her own dreams but was pushed into marrying a guy from church right out of school because her dad just died and they needed money while Peggy(who is what... 10 years younger?) could go to secretarial school and have adventures in Manhattan and give away as many out-of-wedlock babies as she pleases.
What I'm saying is I kind of want to read a fanfic about Peggy's sister.
