I’ve had the pleasure of reviewing the Steelseries Arctis 3. When I say I’ve had the pleasure to use it, I mean it. I was so pleasantly surprised with the solid build quality and lack of glaring lights and supercar-like sharp edges.

I’m going to try and be as unbiased as possible as I have always been a great fan of Steelseries products. I still use my Steelseries Sensei MLG mouse and the Arctis 3 headset will definitely be added to the daily use pile as well. So with that said, lets get into it.

Right off the bat the headset felt solid and well constructed. The way the ear pods are connected to the main frame of the headset inspires confidence, I never once felt that it wanted to break or distort, even in the heat of some online inspired rage. The Arctis 3 I received for review was the wired model with all the connectors having quick-release plugs. This helped me a lot as I have a bad habit of getting up from my PC forgetting that they are still on my head…

Thankfully the connectors just pop off saving your headphone jack on the PC and more importantly the headset itself.

The Arctis 3 makes use of the Steelseries Engine 3. This provides detailed equalizer controls, mic levels and most importantly, the 7.1 functionality. The setup of the headset is a little bit of a mission.

Included in the box is a card with a unique code. You have to register a profile on the Steelseries website to enter this code. Once you have entered the code, head back to your Steelseries Engine 3 and log in with your profile. Your Arctis 3 should now be ready to sync. I am unsure if this code can be used multiple times.

Once this is done you will be able to access all the functions of the Arctis 3. Unfortunately these function only work on Windows 7+ devices. The headset is fully compatible with any other device that has a 3.5mm port minus the added benefits that the Steelseries Engine provide.

As for the actual performance I cant fault the Arctis 3. I have been using it heavily on my PC, Xbox One and Phone. The audio is crisp and clear and the microphone is superb.

The 7.1 surround is on point and it still boggles my mind as to how two drivers can fool me into thinking that audio is coming from multiple directions.

The Microphone provides crystal clear communication. A bi-directional unit is fitted with noise-cancelling.

I really have to commend Steelseries on producing yet another headset that is even more comfortable previous models. I used to think my Siberia was comfortable, but the Arctis 3 just does it so well. Its also extremely light and the adjustable strap takes the weight from central point and distributes it right around your head. This makes the headset extremely comfortable, so go ahead, game all night.

The Arctis 3 includes two cable variations, the 4 pole 3.5mm cable will fit all laptops, phones and most modern consoles. The second cable is a twin 3.5mm plug, one being for audio and the other for the microphone.

My Xbox included the newer generation controller that has a built in 3.5mm port. Some older controllers would require the use of a headset adapter.

To end off the review I would just like to say that the Arctis 3 is a brilliant headset that offers a high-end feel at a entry-level price point. It has a few drawbacks, but I dont think it detracts from the overall package in any shape or form
