“At first, I was afraid, to open my eyes and look to see who it was. When I got my eyes open, Elvis was standing there looking at me. He stood in the doorway only a moment. Then he backed out and quietly shut the door. I told Vernon about it the next day while Elvis was at the base. ‘Elvis does that sometimes,’ Vernon said, ‘He’ll go around checking to make sure everybody is all right. He’ll wake up in the night and start to worry about everybody’”
this made me melt, he was the sweetest 😭

I just finished reading Arlene Cogan's book, Elvis: This One's For You, and I'm a mess!
First off, thank you so much @doll-elvis for taking the time to scan Arlene's book and sharing the digital file with all of us!
I thought Arlene wrote about her friendship with Elvis so beautifully and filled with nothing but respect and love for him. The one thing that really stood out to me was how in-tune he was with everyone around him. I do believe God blessed him with special gifts that He didn't give to anyone else, and Elvis was always searching for the reasons why God gave those gifts to him.
I could go on and on about what Arlene wrote, but I don't want to give the whole book away! I highly recommend reading her book! 💗

“it’s a real horse tail,” he said. He lifted it up high and looked at the back of my neck. “Yeah it’s a real horse tail, all right.”
I blushed the color of a ripe tomato. Elvis saw me blush and he laughed with childish delight. “Look at Arlene blush,” he said. Bobby made some comment about it in one of his funny voices and Elvis laughed even harder.
He lifted up my pony tail again. “Please, Elvis,” i said, trying to smile but afraid i was going to start crying. I knew he could be embarrassed easily. So i decided to get even with him.
When he got up to go in to the pool room with Bobby, I called out, “Oh, Elvis.” He turned around and looked at me. “Yeah?” I smiled. “I really like those tight black pants. There’s something in the way you fill them out in the rear. Especially when you walk away from us. You’ve got the cutest butt i ever saw.”
He frowned and blushed deep. “Arlene, cut that out,” he said. “Let us see it again, Elvis,” I said. He said “that’s enough, Arlene.” He looked really uncomfortable. And his blush was even deeper. He turned and walked out of the room as straight as you please.

Something that really angers me is all these (mostly young) TikTokers or those on Twitter (or on here) trying to claim Elvis was a "p*do" or a "groomer" or whatever else because of his relationship to Cilla and some other girls in his life like Dixie Locke (especially since that godawful Coppola movie came out). These are the facts:
While it IS true that he did "date" some teenage girls--Dixie Locke, Sandy Martindale, Arlene Cogan, Frances Forbes, and Reeca Smith to name a few, ALL of them have insisted to this day that nothing sexual happened between him and them at that age; the most they ever did was kiss. They have all maintained he was a perfect gentleman towards them, and was extremely respectful; he never made them feel uncomfortable in any way. Even Priscilla has maintained to this day that there was no sexual activity between her and him until after they married, and there was not even any heavy petting until after she moved to Graceland permanently when she was 18, and thus an adult. (He may have also slept with Wanda Jackson when she was 17 and he was 19 or 20, but even if this did happen, she was a few months away from turning 18, and whatever happened was clearly consensual, so there you go.)
Elvis grew up during the 40s-70s. Simply put, times were different then, and you were expected to grow up fast (especially in the South); it was common for older men to date teen girls and for girls to marry young. Several even dropped out of high school to get married; I knew kids whose grandparents married at 15, 16 or 17. You cannot apply 2024 morals and standards to someone who lived more than 50 years ago. It just doesn't work.
If anything, these teen girls were the outliers; all the serious girlfriends Elvis had (with the exception of Cilla) were in their twenties or older, such as Linda Thompson, Ginger Alden, Anita Wood, and Joyce Bova.
Anyway, sorry for the rant; I just needed to get this off my chest and hopefully set the record straight. It just annoys me when this misinformation and several half-truths keep getting spread around. Let's hope this gets spread around instead. Maybe it'll finally help stop the haters in their tracks.
I'm glad that you're getting it off your chest :)
It's just that a lot of people don't take the time to do research and get the information(the right information) they're just bored, they have nothing better to do.

Hello Anon!
You don't have to apologize, Anon, I understand! Sometimes people will insist on things, even when they don't have all the facts, because why do the research when they can just hear things second/third hand/from rumors?
It's funny to me when people mention Dixie especially, because they were both teens when they started dating, so like....what?
Holding him to today's standards is simply silly--of course times change, what was acceptable 60+ years ago isn't necessarily now. It's sad and unfortunate, but it doesn't surprise me at all. These things have existed for years, things have been said, and yet his fans continue to grow and people continue to love him and discover his music, and that's what really matters 💖

$28.75 charge to visit Elvis' grave during vigil upsets fans | Elvis Presley
It isn't just the legend of Elvis Presley that has unmatched staying power 40 years after his death. On Tuesday, Aug. 16, 1977, Rose Phillips was one of the first people in Memphis to learn firsthand of Elvis Presley's death. When Orbison said Elvis Presley was going to be part of the Big D Jamboree, a live radio show, and they should go see him, Rod had never heard of Elvis. When Elvis Aron Presley died on Aug. 16, 1977, perhaps of a heart attack, perhaps from a prescription drug overdose, millions mourned.
Elvis Presley has been dead for 40 years, but the King's legacy is still alive and well. Wade Czank, president and founder of the Elvis Presley Association of P.E.I., displays his Elvis memorabilia at his home in Uigg, P.E.I. in 2015. Together with Jerry Lee Lewis he brought sex to music.IT'S doubtful if anyone knows Elvis Presley better than Todd Slaughter, who's run The Official Elvis Presley Fan Club of Great Britain for half a century. It is hard for people that did not live through 1950s Ireland to understand the impact of Elvis Presley.
Fans from around the world are in Memphis to honor the life and legacy of the King of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley. Tens of thousands of Elvis Presley fans are gathering at Graceland to mark the 40 year anniversary of his death.I have quite a few memories of Elvis in my life. Elvis Presley is shown in this 1970 file photo, dateline unknown. Fans from around the world are at Graceland for the 40th anniversary of his death. Fans wait in line outside Graceland, Elvis Presley's Memphis home, on Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2017, in Memphis, Tenn. Against a backdrop of the Beatles and the Stones, Motown and the Beach Boys, he stops all live shows and while still capable of occasional hits, Elvis Presley begins a slow, inevitable slide into irrelevancy. Today, Presley's widespread influence and appeal are well established.

"Love me, but don't worship me. I'm not a god."
— Elvis Presley
Tumblr media
[1957, Graceland, Memphis, Tennessee] He studies me for another long minute. He seemed to be trying to decide how to say something. How to say it right. The sound of music from a radio station played softly. Elvis would never turn off the music in his bedroom. He sighed. "Arlene, there is something I have to get straight with you." "When we were all out on the patio tonight, every time I'd say any kind of rough word at all, I'd look up and you'd have this shocked look on your face. "Honey, what you've got to realize is that I'm a human being just like everybody else. I want you to treat me like you would anyone else. "And the way you looked at my cigar. Now, I don't drink but I do smoke a cigar once in a while. I even say a cuss word at times but they're mostly said in fun. I don't say them at anybody. "I'm human. I want you to realize that." He reached me out and took my hands. "Love me," he said, "but don't worship me. I'm not a god." After a minute, he said, "If I didn't care about you in a special way I would not waste my time talking to you like this. But I care. I like you. I want you to be one of my gang." (...) "And if you have any kind of problem, feel free to come to me with it. Don't listen to the guys if they say not to bother me with something. Just come and talk to me." "If you just feel like coming up here and sitting alone for a while, come ahead. No room in my house is off limits to anybody in my gang. That's the way I want you to think about it now."
Elvis: This One's for You" by Arlene Cogan. Chapter 2 - "Goodnight, Honey."

The story behind the pictures
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“‘Hi honey,” Elvis said. He came to meet me and the first thing he did was hug and kiss me. Affection was something he loved to show. He seemed to want to give it — and to crave it right back from you. In large amounts and often. He loved to touch and be touched. ‘Let’s don’t forget this,’ he said, slipping the camera off my arm. ‘Let’s get some shots while the sun is still up’. He slid down into one of the lawn chairs on the grass and opened his collar a little and smiled at me. It could have been a movie poster. He seemed to have a way of looking great, no matter how he stood or sat. He was so beautiful I could hardly operate my camera…I ended up with a roll of twelve pictures all shot from the exact same spot”

For all the elvis fans/book connoisseurs/collectors/researchers/fanfic writers out there…
im so excited to say that I have finally finished scanning Arlene Cogan’s book “Elvis: This one’s for you”🎉 😭
I initially wanted to post it on archive/org but I lowkey couldn’t figure out how to so the easiest way for me to distribute the book is by the file sharing app MEGA which you’ll have to download in order to read (dw it’s free)
once you have downloaded the app, here is the link, and it will most likely ask you for a decrypt password to view it
the password is doll.elvis
happy reading everyone, I would love to know your thoughts or your favorite excerpts as you go along <3 !!!

Hey I was wondering what did Arlene Cogan say about the sleepovers with Elvis, that they were fairly innocent right?
I was actually gonna make a post about this but this is a perfect opportunity to talk about it so thank you so much for asking 💗!!
so I’m about 3/4s through her book (“Elvis: this one’s for you by Arlene Cogan”) and the only explicit thing that has happened so far was the panty check that I posted the excerpt of earlier this week
Absolutely nothing physical has been described besides a few kisses/general affection like hugging and cuddling (also the girls never actually slept over, they were always driven home)
I am really getting the vibe that their relationship with Elvis was more brotherly/sisterly, in fact Elvis even told them he always wished he had a little sister. He was extremely protective of them and didn’t want them paying any attention to other guys (he wanted them all to himself and basically kept them like nuns 🤧)
They even got into a few petty arguments like brothers and sisters do but I really think Elvis enjoyed having these girls around him because it gave him an opportunity to be completely unguarded and just have innocent/childish fun, like swimming, going to the roller rink, playing with firecrackers and other mischievous things
Anita Wood was dating him at this time and tbh I think whenever he needed a break from her, he would go hang out with these girls to get away and that’s why he wanted them around so often👀
here’s a little song that Frances, Heidi and Arlene sung/wrote for Elvis right before he left for army training💀:
“Oh, we’re the girls of Graceland, And we don’t give a damn, We’re out to have a helluva time, And get into a jam, The hell with Pat Boyd, Anita Wood, too, If you don’t like our little song, To hell, to hell with you”
“Elvis rolled over laughing and clapping his hands. He loved it. The laughing calmed down a little and I noticed there were tears in his eyes. “God knows how much I am going to miss y’all,” he said, “I don’t know what I’m going to do without you. I love you”
Though they were always with Elvis as a group I think they all had their own special relationship with him and it was all very sweet and innocent
also since this book is so hard to find and is so disgustingly expensive, I’m gonna be working on scanning the book and posting it as a pdf so everyone can read it !! (don’t worry it will be for free, I’m not charging people like that one girl did for the Kathy book smh👀)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
sorry but I love these quotes 😩
“Honey, what you’ve got to realize is that I’m a human being just like everybody else. I want you to treat me like you would anyone else”
“Love me”, he said, “but don’t worship me. I’m not a God”
I think that is what Elvis wanted out of every woman he was with 😭 like how he told Larry Geller he could never know if a woman loved him for who he was or if they only loved Elvis, the performer/star

“‘Come here, darlin’,’ he said. ‘It sounds like I’d better have a panty check right now’. Heidi looked back at Frances. ‘After you,’ she said. Frances shrugged and got up. Elvis peeled back the top of her pants to check the color of her panties, he saw that they were white. I volunteered. Elvis checked my panties. Then he looked at Heidi. Heidi held back a moment then allowed the check. Elvis pulled back the top of her pants before straightening them back up and asking, ‘How come the black?’. ‘I was afraid you would call a panty check tonight,’ she said, ‘But I saw these cute and sexy little black things and I couldn’t resist them’. Elvis shook his head. ‘You’ve got to wear white around here,’ he said, ‘I’ll get Joe to take you home to change’. ‘Can I come back?’ Heidi said. ‘Yeah but go change your panties’ Elvis said. Heidi got a pixie expression on her face ‘Can I put the black ones on for later?’ Elvis laughed and whapped her backside ‘Get out of here!’”
this man was dead serious about his white panties, a panty check is wild 😭

“During the daytime Elvis managed to cover up his grief. Sometimes, especially during the night, it might break through. Privately, and inwardly, he suffered badly. Sometimes he would be talking to us, hugging on us while we sat in his lap and talked to him. A sadness would hit him like a sudden cloud. His eyes would fill up with tears. One evening I found him in the bathroom with his hands over his face. ‘Are you alright, Elvis?” I said. He nodded but did not turn around. ‘I guess I’ll have to be,’ he said in a muffled voice. We put our arms around each other for comfort and stood there a long time. ‘I love you, Elvis’ I said. ‘I know you do’ he said…”
later that same day
“I walked into the kitchen when I saw Vernon and Elvis were standing by the sink. Their arms were around each other. They were crying. ‘Oh God, what’ll we do?’ Vernon said. I backed out of the room. They didn’t know I was ever there…”

Your posts about Arlene and the time she spent at Graceland with the other girls got me thinking. Do you think it’s right to victimize people if they don’t view themselves as victims? You’ll often see people online say he groomed or abused these girls that spent time with him but judging by what you’ve shared of Arlene’s book, she clearly doesn’t view herself as a victim and has never said Elvis harmed her in any way.
oh my god I love you for asking this because the victimization of women who do not see themselves as victims is getting tiresome, so thank you so much for the ask <3 😩!!!
this is such an important topic and it is exactly why I find the r kelly comparisons particularly disgusting because the two situations couldn’t be any more different
the women who were with r kelly have identified themselves as victims of a crime and have called for action against r kelly time and time again because of it (and thankfully people finally listened and now he is sitting in prison where he belongs 😄)
and then you have the women who were with Elvis who have never once referred to themselves as victims or have said they were victims of abuse yet, like you said, that is how the media is telling their stories and thus leading their audiences to believe that Elvis acted in a predatory way
for example in the Barbara Walters interview with Priscilla, it is very clear to me that Barbara had an agenda and it showed in the way that Barbara was asking questions, it was like she was fishing for a specific answer from Priscilla to sell the story that Elvis victimized Priscilla
I just find it insane that people think they have the authority to tell a woman whether she was a victim or not that because by doing so they are literally taking away their agency
these women have had decades to reflect on the past, Elvis has been gone for almost 46 years, and yet they still speak about him with love and cherish their time spent with him
here are the last 2 pages of Arlene Cogan’s book where she expresses her love for him and her gratitude for ever have even knowing him
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“You were so very special and I am so much better a person and so proud that I was blessed enough to have been one of those who were extremely close to you. To have been so much a part of your life, as you were mine”
please find one of r kelly’s victims speaking so highly about him like this and I will shut up… but no one ever will, because the two situations were just vastly different and I don’t understand how anyone could think they were comparable at all (like Alanna Nash saying Elvis would have shared a jail cell with r kelly) In order to have a crime, you have to have a victim and like you said no woman who has been with Elvis has ever proclaimed that they were a victim… periodt.
