Being the mortician meant spending quite a bit of time becoming very familiar with the pulse of the city. Or more specifically... with knowing how and when that pulse abruptly stopped.

It still amused Anna how many people would stop to gawk at the sight of a fresh corpse. Once decomposition set in and the smell rose, no one wanted to stop and stare, but the newly dead were largely inoffensive to the senses.

Unless, of course, they'd been disemboweled. Even decapitation didn't make the public reel away as fast as the sight of intestines strewn across Ul'dah's paving stones. She often took note of how those who alerted the Blades responded when they glanced at the corpse. And how closely they observed the scene if the death happened to be tidy.

The d'Latus took the correct lesson from this and made their own kills as gruesome as possible.

No one remembered many clues as to who they'd seen in the vicinity if they were too busy vomiting in a planter because they'd stepped in a splatter of entrails.

Maybe Grian as a Watcher is super isolated and throws himself head first doing repetitive task because it gives him back a sense of normalcy that Sam wrecked and also is a good escuse for him to be alone (bitchbunny gave him trust issues). And probably Watchers see that and go 'okay, this is no healthy way to cope, we are seending you to a safe fun place with nice people so you make friends. Also you are keeping your powers so don't worry, no one can hurt you' Thus Grian arrives at Hermitcraft
