In text messages to friends, Johnny Depp fantasized about murdering his then-wife, the actress Amber Heard. “I will fuck her burnt corpse afterwards to make sure she’s dead,” Depp wrote. In other texts, he disparaged his wife’s body in luridly misogynist terms. “Mushy pointless dangling overused floppy fish market,” he called her.
The texts became public as part of Depp’s defamation suit against Heard, now at trial in a Virginia court. Ostensibly, Depp is suing over a 2018 articlethat Heard published in the Washington Post, titled “I spoke up against sexual violence – and faced our culture’s wrath.” In the piece, the actress writes, “Two years ago, I became a public figure representing domestic abuse.” The article does not mention Depp, but his lawyers say that the piece was about him – and was defamatory. For those 11 words, Depp is seeking $50m.
A jury thought he deserved it. On Wednesday, the case’s verdict came in, finding that Heard defamed Depp, acting with “malice,” when she described herself as a victim of domestic abuse. Bizarrely, the same jury found that one of Depp’s lawyer’s defamed Heard when he said that her account of abuse was “a hoax.” The verdict came after a trial that was televized – an extremely rare situation for a proceeding that concerns allegations of domestic violence – and which was subject to almost inescapable media coverage, nearly all of it in favor of one litigant, even as the jury was not sequestered. The strange, illogical, and unjust ruling has the effect of sanctioning Depp’s alleged abuse of Heard, and of punishing Heard for speaking about it. It will have a devastating effect on survivors, who will be silenced, now, with the knowledge that they cannot speak about their violent experiences at men’s hands without the threat of a ruinous libel suit. In that sense, women’s speech just became a lot less free.
Over the past six weeks, as the trial was live-streamed online, many of those who have tuned in to watch have treated Heard with the same contempt that Depp did in his texts. A broad consensus has emerged online that Heard must be lying about her abuse. She has been accused of faking the photos of her injuries from Depp’s alleged beatings, painting bruises on with makeup. She’s been accused of convincing the multiple witnesses who say Depp abused her to lie – repeatedly and under oath – for years. These conspiracy theories are unsupported by the facts of the case, but that has not stopped them from spreading. Online, the case has taken on a heady mythology, and belief in Depp’s righteousness persists independent of the evidence.
In the service of this myth, any cruelty can be justified. When Heard took the stand, she became emotional as she recounted how Depp allegedly hit her, manipulated and controlled her, surveilled her and sexually assaulted her. Afterwards, ordinary people, along with a few celebrities and even brands like Duolingo and Milani, took to social media to mock or undermine Heard. They took screenshots of her weeping face and made it a meme. Many performed mocking re-enactments of her testimony, lip-syncing along as she recounted the alleged abuse. The audio of her crying became a TikTok trend. This cruelty has now been joined in and compounded by the jury, who have gone beyond mocking her for telling her story, and now declared that she actually broke the law by doing so.
This is not the first time Depp has sued over the allegations. In 2020, a British court heard Depp’s lawsuit against the British tabloid the Sun, which Depp sued for defamation after an article referred to him as a “wife beater”. UK courts are much more amenable to defamation claims than American ones, but Depp still couldn’t prevail: the British judge found that the Sun’s characterization of Depp was “substantially true”. That same trial found that Depp physically abused Heard on at least 12 occasions. Yet the actor and his fans claim that it was Heard, not Depp, who was the abuser in their marriage.
The trial has turned into a public orgy of misogyny. While most of the vitriol is nominally directed at Heard, it is hard to shake the feeling that really, it is directed at all women – and in particular, at those of us who spoke out about gendered abuse and sexual violence during the height of the #MeToo movement. We are in a moment of virulent antifeminist backlash, and the modest gains that were made in that era are being retracted with a gleeful display of victim-blaming at a massive scale. One woman has been made into a symbol of a movement that many view with fear and hatred, and she’s being punished for that movement. In this way, Heard is still in an abusive relationship. But now, it’s not just with Depp, but with the whole country.
Since she published her Post piece, Heard’s life has been consumed by the rage and retaliation of Depp and his fans. Lost in the scandal and spectacle of the lawsuit has been this reality: it is Heard, not Depp, who has been put on trial, and she is on trial for saying things whose truth is evidenced by the very fact of the lawsuit itself. Depp’s frivolous and punitive suit, and the frenzy of misogynist contempt for Heard that has accompanied it, have done a great deal to vindicate Heard’s original point: that women are punished for coming forward. What happens to women who allege abuse? They get publicly pilloried, professionally blacklisted, socially ostracized, mocked endlessly on social media and sued. Wrath, indeed.
But mainstream coverage of the trial has not seemed to grasp this. Instead, there’s been tremendous focus on Heard’s mistakes and worst moments over the course of her relationship with Depp. As is typical of domestic abuse victims, Heard does seem to have done things many of us would not be proud of. She fought back. Depp’s outbursts and insults left Heard resentful and angry with him, and sometimes, she told him so. Many are quick to point out that Heard is not a perfect victim. We are told that the lawsuit is “complicated”. But no woman is. We are told that the lawsuit is “complicated.” But the lawsuit is not complicated. It is abuse. Now, that abuse has been sanctioned by a jury.
Maybe the persistence of this notion that Heard is somehow equally culpable for what happened to her is why people like the New York Times’ Michelle Goldberg have characterized the trial as “the death of Me Too”: it shows how easily a victim can still be blamed and isolated, how easily what happened to her can be taken as a failure of her personal character, rather than as part of a social pattern. Not all women are alike, but feminism was supposed to let us see how we are all similarly vulnerable – both to gendered abuse and to the gendered application of double standards and unjust blame. No victim is perfect. No victim should have to be. After all, if a man cannot be considered abusive towards an imperfect woman, then just how perfect does a woman need to be before it becomes wrong to beat her?
For their part, Depp’s fans seem to not so much deny Depp’s alleged violence against Heard, but to approve of it. “He could have killed you,” says one viral Tiktok supporting Depp, the text superimposed over photos of Heard’s bruised face. “He had every right.” The post has more than 222,200 likes.
The backlash to #Me Too has long been under way. Critics of the movement painted women’s efforts to end sexual violence as excessive and intemperate from the start, claiming #MeToo had “gone too far” before it really got under way at all. And yet the Heard trial does feel like a tipping point in our culture’s response to gender violence. The forces of misogynist reaction are perhaps even stronger now for having been temporarily repressed. Where once women refused, en masse, to keep men’s secrets, or to remain silent about the truth of their own lives, now, a resurgence of sexism, virulent online harassment, and the threat of lawsuits, all aim to compel women back into silence – by force.
In some ways, one could see the defamation suit itself as an extension of Depp’s abuse of Heard, a way to prolong his humiliation and control over her. The only difference is that now, the legal system and the public have been conscripted to take part. This seems to be at least partly how Depp sees it. In 2016, as their marriage broke apart, Depp texted his friend Christian Carino, vowing revenge against Heard. “She is begging for global humiliation,” Depp wrote. “She is going to get it.”

lollipop daydreams october caress bb!
lollipop - favorite makeup products?
Girl the door you just opened. You’re talkin to a self taught makeup artist! Okie, lets get into it.
So I love most products from Kat Von D. Vegan and cruelty free while also having that goth as fuck aesthetic also her lipsticks are nice. Even tho they’re not cool with each other I also love Jeffree Star’s liquid lipsticks. They’re so comfy and pigmented. Comin outta left field: Paige’s Hot Topic collab makeup is really good for a non-makeup company making makeup. Not ALL Hot Topic makeup is good but the stuff Paige made with them is pretty good. They eyeshadow palette is amazing and it’s double sided. The lipsticks are gooood but take a long time to dry. The highlighter is good tho can get very chunky glitter on you if you don’t use a brush. Paige’s own lipsticks off her website are really good. Creamy and they don’t stain so the wear isn’t like 100% indestructible but it’s good. If you want good and affordable makeup always look into Morphe (they have 35 color eyeshadow palettes for like 25 bucks) also NYX which is a ‘drug store’ brand and has TONs of products. I could go on forever but I won’t.
ON THE SFX SIDE OF THINGS THO! Third Degree,a silicone modeling compound perfect for realistic simulation of wounds. Alcohol activated paints, onl activated with 99% alcohol so they’re perfect for standing against sweat, rain, etc plus you can thin them enough to paint things like veins so it looks under your skin. Scab blood, beautiful thick chunky blood perfect for depth and sticky gross. Liquid latex, the easiest of SFX products and more affordable. Liquid latex and some cotton balls and you can do anything.
daydreams - if you could be anything or anyone, who would you be?
Damn. If I could be anything: a wrestler or paranormal investigator. I’m kind of already a makeup artist even if it isn’t my job rn. If I could be anyone I’d wanna be Paige just cause she beautiful and I look close to her but I want the rest of it and also British. Like duh?
october - what month were you born in?
Beech, this one! I am a February baby. My birthday is on the 26th (you bitches got 3 days til I’m 22. It’s midnight here just now). I am a Pisces. Though I’m the scary side of Pisces not the little cry baby Pisces. Did you know most serial killers are Pisces?…Just a thought.
caress - do you like to snuggle?
Uhh…short answer: yes,if I know you well enough. Long answer: You sure you want the long answer?

I’ve posted about my brush belt before, but since Sunday’s post, I’ve received a few questions about it, so I figured it’s worth sharing about again! I searched for years for a quality, vegan brush belt to replace my (very, very, VERY) old and tattered belt from my MAC days. I looked everywhere - amazon, eBay, and pages and pages of google searches - I even looked into having one made. Until my dear friend @kelleyunthankmua introduced me to @emjcompany 💕 They’re a British cruelty free company that creates amazingly stylish, high quality vegan kits/bags for all things beauty. I’m obsessed with my brush belt, as well as my makeup mat, and I’ve already got a few of their other products on my wish list for this year 💕 As always, not sponsored, I just love to share about my favorite cruelty free brands from around the world 🐰💕 #emjcompany #veganmakeupartist #vegancosmetics #crueltyfreebeauty #crueltyfreecosmetics https://www.instagram.com/p/Bs87uNKFWj9/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1084a8lrypi

Red Lipstick Buying Guide The market has vey many varieties of lipstick and some people may assume that they are the easiest products to buy. Before going to the drugstore of before you order your favourite shade of lipstick online, follow this buying guide to know everything you need to first. Learn your skin undertone Knowing your skin undertone will help you in choosing the right red for your lips. Some people may not know how to check their skin undertones that lead to them buying shades of red that are not good on their skin tone. The easiest way to check the undertone colour is by checking the colour of your veins around the wrist. If the veins are blue, then your undertone is cool. You have a warm undertone if the veins are more green than blue. If the veins are neither blue nor green, your undertone is neutral. Choose a red lipstick that goes well with your undertone Once you know the colour of your undertone, it gets easier to choose the right colour for your lips. If you have a warm undertone, choose lipsticks with orange reds. If you have a cool undertone, look for blue red lipsticks. These kinds of lipsticks will compliment your complexion better than other lipsticks. For people with neutral undertones, any kind of red will go well with your undertone but you could choose the subtle reds that will give you more pop without too much colour. Budget Majority of the good lipsticks in the market are affordable but it is always good to know that you have enough to buy the brand and shade you want. Do not go beyond what you can afford for a lipstick that you can get at a cheaper price. Ingredients One of the most overlooked factor when choosing lipsticks is the list of ingredients. If you want a lipstick that will not dry the lips or feel heavy, you need to look for one with natural and moisturizing ingredients. Look for lipsticks with highly pigmented formulas for full coverage and long wear. The ingredients should not cause any irritations to the lips considering that the skin on the lips is sensitive and light. Choose products with no parabens, petrolatum, and artificial additives. Read reviews Reading reviews and comparing different brands is another way of making the right decision on what to buy. The reviews will show you the lipsticks that have long stays, the ones that bleed and settle on the creases and so no. Besides reading other customer reviews, you can also ask your friends and family about the best shades and lipsticks they would recommend. Glamour magazines also come in handy as they often write up topics on the best lipsticks the celebrities are wearing. If you want to rock the same looks, these too could be of much help. Where to buy Because lipsticks are some of the most popular products, there is a likelihood of buying fake ones in the market. To avoid any counterfeits, make sure you buy from the most established sellers, this could be online at amazon or the drugstores and beauty stores that you are sure do not stock counterfeits. How To Apply Red Lipstick The red lipstick is eye-catching and a classic but not everyone can pull out the perfect application. Below is a guide on how apply red lipstick for that perfect captivating look. First step is to make sure you have the right shade that goes well with your undertones. You can use your fingertips to check if the shade you choose goes well with your undertones. The fingertips are the best option as they have the same shade as the lips. Clean and exfoliate the lips in readiness for the lipstick Hydrate the lips in order to avoid any drying up after the lipstick application. You can hydrate them using a balm or your best oil. Make sure the oil you choose is not too shiny. Do your face and makeup first before you put on your lipstick Apply a lipstick base by using a lip primer or a lip liner. Using any of these gives the lipstick more longevity Using a lip brush, apply the lipstick starting from the center of the lip to the edges. Using a brush makes it easier to attain a thin layer that gives the lips full coverage. You can use a translucent powder if you so wish to keep the lipstick in place. Do this by placing a tissue over the lips and use a powder brush to distribute the powder. The tissue being thin, will allow the powder to penetrate through it to get to the lips. After the powder, you can add another coat of lipstick for better effects. If you want sparkling lips, finish off the application by applying a gloss over the lips. You have to note though that the gloss wears off fast and it may feel sticky. Some of the most quality red lipsticks come with their own glossy look so you may not need to use an extra one. Wrapping it up Red lips are definitely a remarkable sight. Women that wear reds look confident and like they can conquer anything. Red lipstick goes well with almost everything and it suits almost every skin tone perfectly. All you need to do is choose the right shade, such as the ones listed above, apply the lipstick like a pro and go out feeling like the queen that you are. Body Shop Haul
I love shopping ethically, and no big brand is more synonymous with ethical sourcing than The Body Shop. I have purchased items at The Body Shop for many years, and have always found their products to be effective in addressing any skin concerns I may have, as well as having great makeup, such as lash-extending mascaras and long-lasting matte lipsticks. All products are non-animal tested and cruelty-free, and they conduct fair-trade practices in sourcing the goods they make in many corners of the world, such as Morocco and Kenya. I started buying Body Shop products when they opened in 1997, with the first product I bought being their Born Lippy lip balm in Strawberry. Since then, I graduated first to their Tea Tree range, which was the most effective in ridding my face of blemishes during my teenage years and early 20s. After that, I started using their Vitamin E products, which restored moisture to my dry skin. Lately, some of their products, such as the lip butters and body yoghurts, have been removed of bee’s wax and other items, making them 100% Vegan certified, which is amazing (and may require a separate haul-related post). Here are my brand-new purchases which I bought in bulk the other day. I will evaluate them below. Enrich not exploit!!
Tumblr media
Items I purchased:
Vanilla Pumpkin Hand Cream, $7 AUD
This is a limited-edition hand cream, made especially for Halloween as part of The Body Shop’s Fall for Pumpkin range, which also includes a Body Butter, and a Shower Cream. I found that the hand cream absorbs quickly and effortlessly into the hands, leaving them feeling soft and moisturised. It has a non-greasy feel, and the scent has pleasant undertones of pumpkin (of course), vanilla (of course) from Madgascar, and hints of tonka bean, hazelnut, and maple syrup. The scent lasts up to 3-4 hours. I highly recommend this product and give it a 5 out of 5. Get it quick before October 31st!
Coconut Hand Cream, $7 AUD
This hand cream reminds me of an endless summer, and the scent lasts as long as the Vanilla Pumpkin Hand Cream. It glides on and is non-greasy, and leaves hands feeling soft and hydrated. It smells amazing and is the ultimate handbag must-have. It contains both community trade organic virgin coconut oil from Samoa in Polynesia, and community trade Shea from Ghana. I highly recommend this product, 5 out of 5 stars. Experience that summer fragrance all year round!!
Drops of Light Pure Resurfacing Liquid Peel, $37 AUD
This amazing peel, which for optimal results you should use 2-3 days a week, instantly leaves skin feeling illuminated after one use. With continuous use, it reduces the appearance of skin marks and freckles, and gives a more brightened and even skin tone. I personally like it better than the Vitamin C and Drops of Youth Peels, probably because I struggle with freckles and skin marks. It contains Red Algae Extract harvested from the North Atlantic Ocean, and is rich in Vitamin C Minerals. The only thing is that it can be difficult getting rid of dead skin residue straight away after the peel has been applied, and takes about 2 rounds with the skin cleanser to get it all off. I recommend this product for the results it gives you. I give it 4 out of 5 stars.
Vitamin E Hydrating Toner, $19 AUD
This toner is best applied with The Body Shop’s Luxury Facial Flannel (which I have previously purchased), or cotton wipes, in order to preserve its longevity, and maximise it’s effectiveness. Made with Vitamin E extract and Community Trade Soya oil from Brazil (another ethically-sourced product), this product is alcohol-free, and leaves skin feeling refreshed and hydrated. I have learnt the importance of using a toner as part of my skin beauty regime over the years, and this toner has always given me maximised benefits, and is therefore one of my favourite skin products. It effectively removes traces of makeup and skin cleanser. Using a skin cleanser to remove makeup is usually never enough, and using it on it’s own can leave the skin feeling dry, and this is where the benefits of using the Vitamin E Toner come in, ensuring the skin is both properly cleaned and that it’s natural hydration balance is restored. I highly recommend this product, and give it a 5 out of 5 stars.
Tea Tree Targeted Gel, $14 AUD
This little beauty is fantastic for targeting specific blemishes in a particular region, so as not to dry out other parts of your face. It is made with Community Trade Tea Tree from Kenya, and is 100% ethically-sourced. It is quick-drying and effective in reducing blemishes quickly. I had a break-out recently, and it was a god-send in drying out my blemishes within two days. The only thing people might not realise (but I do, so here’s the warning) is that you need to wash and wipe thoroughly the wand applicator each time after you apply it to an affected area, so as not to spread the blemishes. I recommend this product and give it a 4 out of 5 stars.
Tea Tree Mattifying Lotion, $19 AUD
This lotion is great to use as an everyday moisturiser on oil-prone and blemish-prone skin, and is effective in drying up and reducing blemishes. It is light-weight and non-greasy to apply, and, like the Tea Tree Targeted Gel, is enriched with Community Trade Tea Tree Oil from Kenya. It provides hydration without clogging pores, and is fine to use under make-up without causing further break-outs. I cannot express how much I love this product, and I give it 5 out of 5 stars.
Tea Tree Skin Clearing Facial Wash, $15 AUD
This wash is a beauty regime must-have for blemish-prone skin. I have been using this product off-and-on for around 19 years now, whenever I have a break-out, which usually happens in summer due to the high level of humidity where I live. Again, it is made with ethically-sourced Tea Tree Oil from Kenya (enrich, not exploit), and leaves skin feeling refreshed and super clean. It tingles a little after applying, which is always a good sign if you want to know that a product targeted toward reducing blemishes is working. I give this product a 5 out of 5.
Matte Lipstick in Sienna Rose (No. 430), $21 AUD
Who doesn’t love a nude-coloured lipstick that goes with anything, and glides on seamlessly, providing total matte coverage, and long-lasting colour? No-one, that’s who. This lipstick is perfect for everyday wear, and is a beauty essential. I ate lunch, and this little beauty still persevered, and did not require a re-application afterwards. What a trooper. Also, it is enriched with Community Trade Brazillian Nut Oil,and is 100% Vegetarian. To those who are allergic to bee’s wax, it would probably be safe to avoid this product, as it contains bee’s wax. I recommend this product, 5 out of 5 stars.
Matte Lipstick in Rio Fuschia (No. 423), $21 AUD
Repeat what I’ve said above, but also, this colour is bold and bright. I love a dramatic lip colour if I decide to dress up, and this lipstick definitely does the trick. I give it 5 out of 5 stars.
Softening Body Butter in Warm Vanilla, $9 AUD
This is an early-release Christmas fragrance addition (the other two of which will be Rich Plum and Juicy Pear). It has undertones of jasmine, caramel, and, of course, vanilla extract ethically-sourced from Madagascar, and handcrafted Shea butter from Tamale, Ghana. It adds 24-hour moisture, and is great for normal-to-dry skin. It leaves skin super soft and silky, and it smells amazing. I found it is great for night-time application, as the fragrance calms me down and helps me sleep better. The only negative is that it takes a while for the skin to absorb it, like most of the Body Butter range. Great for getting in that Christmas spirit. It’s probably not for non-lovers of vanilla though. Grab it while it lasts!! I recommend this product and give it a 4 out of 5 stars.
Moringa Bath Bubble and Candied Plum Bath Bomb, $6 AUD
I love the bath bubble and bomb range, I just wish they were bigger!! I tend to combine up to two fragrances per bath routine (as one causes fragrant bubbles and the other gives the bath a fragrant, milky texture), and this time I chose this combo. There are so many fragrances to choose from, including Green Tea, Pink Grapefruit, Coconut, Strawberry, Mango, Candied Plum, and Moringa. The three new fragrances that will be introduced this Christmas (Rich Plum, Warm Vanilla, and Juicy Pear) will also have bath bomb/bubbles variations. I adore nothing more than a good fragrant bath, coupled with some Sauvignon Blanc and Netflix on my iPad, perfectly balanced on a bath caddy, while relaxing with some candles. The bath bubbles are not overly frothy, and the bombs provide an interesting texture. There are also bottles of bubbling bath variations ian Wild Argan Oil and British Rose available for $20, but at just $3 per bomb/bubble (and a 4 for $10 special), these little beauties are a bargain!! I recommend this product, but I’m taking away a star, because of their size. 4 out of 5 stars.
Happy Go Lash Mascara, $23 AUD
This mascara is fantastic for lengthening lashes without them clumping, and is an update on The Body Shop’s old formula, which is why I had to try it for myself!! It is definitely new and improved. It didn’t dry out my lashes or make them flaky, and made them look lush. A down-side for some people is that it is only available in black (it’s not a problem for me, because I have dark hair and eyebrows). It thickened and defined my lashes perfectly!! It is made from 99% natural ingredients and is enriched with Community Trade beeswax from Cameroon and Community Trade organic virgin coconut oil from Samoa in Polynesia.  The only issue I had was that it was not the easiest to remove, even with makeup remover. I recommend this product, and give it 4 out of 5 stars.
Born Lippy Lip Balm in Passionberry, $6 AUD
The Body Shop finally brought back this Born Lippy shade after discontinuing it, but only for a limited time. I love this lip balm colour and scent to death, as it was amongst my first Body Shop purchases when I was a teenager. It is hydrating and nourishing, and gives lips just a hint of colour. Made from Community Trade beeswax from Guide D’Espoir in Cameroon. It does what it is supposed to do (moisturise), and is a bargain at only $6 AUD. The only downside is that it doesn’t stay on your lips for long. I recommend this product, and give it 4 out of 5 stars.
Strawberry Softening Body Polish, $15 AUD
Strawberry-scented products from The Body Shop are among my all-time favourite products in their catalogue of goods. I used this product before my last shower, and was amazed with the exfoliating result after washing it off. It gently refined my skin, and buffed away dead skin cells, whilst leaving my skin silky-soft and hydrated. It contains cold-pressed strawberry seed oil, which is what provides the exfoliation, and is also infused with Community Trade honey from Ethiopia. I highly recommend this product, and give it 5 out of 5 stars.
Honey Bronze Shimmering Dry Oil, $33 AUD
A must-have for the summer!! Gives you a sun-kissed, shimmery look, which is great for glamming it up for a night out on the town, or for sparkling in the sunshine.  Packed Community Trade honey from Ethiopia, the non-greasy formula delivers a warm hint of shimmering colour. It drys quickly and won’t rub off on your clothing. It is my go-to for a tan-enhancing shimmer, and is great for a one-off, bronzed look. This is probably the only downside, as I wished it lasted longer than just a one-off tan application. But for what it is, it is an enduring product that can last up to 6-8 hours on your skin. I recommend this product, and give it 4 out of 5 stars.
Vitamin C Glow Boosting Moisturiser, $35 AUD
This product left my skin practically glowing and feeling ultra-hydrated. It provided a necessary skin boost when my skin was looking dull. It’s lightweight and non-greasy, and gave me a natural glow. It is made with ethically-sourced  Vitamin C rich Camu Camu from the Amazonian Rainforest in Peru, as well as Community Trade Aloe Vera. I highly recommend this product, and give it 5 out of 5 stars.
Overall Verdict:
I will continue to shop at The Body Shop for their ethically-sourced, high-quality and relatively inexpensive beauty products. They have a wide range of attractive and beautifully fragrant products that are appealing to purchase, and provide you with a feel-good mind-set, as all products are natural and cruelty-free. Long live The Body Shop!!

I'm about to let you in on a little secret: Topshop is low-key one of my favorite places to find affordable beauty products. I rarely hear people in the beauty-editor community buzz about the British brand 's makeup and skincare offerings, but last fall, it relaunched its beauty section, and from foundations and highlighters to K-beauty skincare, the brand's selection is legitimately fire —and almost everything costs less than $20. The makeup is Leaping Bunny–certified, meaning cruelty-free, which is fab. The retailer also has major sales (one is happening right now!), so if getting high-quality lipsticks and foundations at $8 and $12 price points interests you, Topshop should probably be on your radar. What isn't such a secret is that Topshop is one of our favorite retailers for trend-forward fashion pieces. (These are the spring/summer Topshop pieces we're loving most right now, by the way.) Who knew its eye pencils and face palettes were just as good as its jumpsuits and sandals? So next time you load up your Topshop cart with clothing, make sure to add a few of the following—my favorite selects from Topshop's clandestinely lit beauty section. A lightweight, super-blendable liquid concealer that you can apply lightly or build up for full coverage and leaves a soft matte finish? Yep, we'll take all eight shades. Especially the product is on sale right now for only nine bucks. Topshop offers a number of different lipstick formulations, but I recommend going for the cream version, which has a demi-satin finish, applies smoothly, and doesn't feel at all drying on the lips. There are 25 shades, some of which are a little sheerer, and others more opaque. My faves are Macaron, a super-pretty coral; and Mink, a warm, darker nude. Sparkly powder highlighters are not the vibe for 2019, but slick, dewy face glosses and jellies totally are. I love Topshop's take for the cheekbones and eyelids. It's smooth, but not sticky, and leaves the perfect glazed-skin look. A pet peeve of mine with brow gels is that the applicators are too big, which causes messy application. I love Topshop's skinny tip, and the pigmented formula (which comes in four shades) offers just the right amount of hold. We love us a shimmery body mist for summer, and this elixir, which leaves a luminous (but not sparkly) finish, does just the trick. Doesn't hurt that it smells like florally vanilla goodness. Spray this on your limbs and décolleté whenever you go poolside for that Instagram-worthy body glow. Highlighter pots are very *now,* and Topshop's version is nice if you want to add a creamy dewiness to your face without looking too greasy or slick. The product, which comes in two shades, blends easily and sets on the skin so it's dry to the touch. I'm really into a fluffy, doe-eyed lash look these days (nothing spidery or heavy), and that's just what Topshop's mascara achieves. It also comes in a waterproof formula, which is great for summertime. Matte foundations with thicker textures aren't usually my go-to, but for those who have oilier skin types and enjoy a shine-free finish, definitely give this easy-to-blend formula a try. It comes in only 12 shades, but they do cover a wide spectrum of skin tones, which a plus. Good goddess I love a chubby eye crayon. These 10 matte and shimmery shades are muted enough for simple, everyday wear. They dry down after 60 seconds and last all day. You need to sharpen them (they're not twist-ups), but for $8? Worth it. If you like a softer lip look (I know I do this time of year), opt for Topshop's Blush Lipstick. It comes in six fun shades, from mauve-y pink to '90s brown. My fave is the salmon hue, Elated. What can I say? I love corals. The superfruit-infused formula is super lightweight and hydrating. A no-makeup makeup must-have for only $8. I'm really picky about mattifying powders. If the formula is too cakey, I want nothing to do with it. I love how silky this pressed formulation is. A light dusting works for me, but you could definitely build it up for more coverage. It comes in six shades and a very sleek metal compact with a convenient mirror included. Everything I dig about Topshop's pressed powder I like even better in its bronzer. It's silky, blendable, and pigmented (but not too pigmented). I wish it came in more shades; only one is in stock currently, an almond-colored matte hue. But still overall a very solid product. Silky smooth? Check. Blendable? Check. Offers a natural (but still visible) lit-from-within flush? Check. Color me a fan of Topshop's powder blush, which currently comes in four bright shades. Topshop's makeup brush selection is also impressive. Out of all its offerings, I'll probably get the most use out of this big fluffy brush: Use it to apply setting powder, or bronzer and blush if you like a lighter finish. It's $8, but the quality measures up to brushes twice the price. If you had told me two years ago that I'd soon be obsessed with lip gloss, I would have told you to STFU. But here we are, in summer 2019, and gloss is kind of all I want to wear on my lips. Topshop's four shades are fun because they're sheer and infused with micro glitter, so you can layer them on top of another color (or just wear them on their own) for a whimsical  '90s vibe. Despite the sparkle, the texture thankfully doesn't feel grainy on the lips. For a very reasonable $28, this chic gold box serves you nine sparkly eye shadows, three highlighters, and a flamingo-pink blush. I'm obsessed with the eye makeup trend of applying a single bold color to the whole lid, and this palette offers endless iterations of that. It's perfect for travel (useful for wedding season, y'all!), and also makes a great gift. One more highlighter: It's hard to believe these drops are on sale for only $11. So chic! Dot the luminous liquid on the high points of your face for a subtle glow that dries down to be super long-lasting. Onto skincare: Topshop doesn't have its own line, but it does carry a number of cute, curated products from other brands, like K-beauty line Oh K!. If you love the Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask ($48), you'll vibe with this super-hydrating sheet mask version, too. Plumping, revitalizing ingredients like ceramides and antioxidants give the skin a quick pick-me-up. If you're already a member of the Baby Foot cult (or new to deeply exfoliating your feet), check out Oh K!'s affordable peel, which uses fruit-derived acids to slough dead skin off your tired tootsies. I own one of Tangle Teezer's adorable travel-size detangling brushes, and if I ever lost it, a small part of me would die (until I bought another one from Topshop, at least). No tiny compact brush does a better job of making my hair shiny and knot-free. And while you're filling your Topshop cart with beauty products, you might as well throw in a tube of this classic lip balm (which Topshop carries in yummy flavors like Peach & Mango Burst). I never leave the house without one of these intensely moisturizing little guys.  Next: The $20-and-Under Eye Creams That Will Make Your Skin Look Like a Million Bucks

Blog 10: Interactive Media Industries Part 1
In this blog I will focus on the work that goes into creating an interactive website and its functions. I’ve decided to look at the Body Shop Website. The Body Shop is a British skincare, perfume and cosmetics company, founded in 1976. Ever since opening, the brand has been known for their vegetarian and cruelty free products, over half being vegan.
When first visiting the website, I was happy with the simplicity of its design. It’s very easy to navigate and doesn’t seem to be targeted to any specific age group or gender.
Tumblr media

When going through the website homepage it was very easy to read and navigate through due to its simplicity and visuality. A lot of information is given before each of the products the company sells. For example, in the image bellow, The Body Shop has provided the customer information and facts explaining for the beeswax has come from before giving me the option to select in would like to shop in that area of products.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The header is very easy to understand, clearly giving us the options select which area we’d like to shop in, for example Hair, Makeup and About Us. There is also a tool to allow customers to search the website themselves for the product they’re in search for.
Tumblr media
Overall the design does work. It is simplistic as well as bold in some areas making it look aesthetically pleasing in some ways, although one negative for me is the 100% vegetarian indication is a little too bold slightly being less visually pleasing.

The Body Shop Just Announced a New Initiative to Fight Plastic Pollution
The Body Shop has been on top of their recycling game this year. In addition to a recent partnership with recycling giant TerraCycle, the British brand just announced a new grassroots approach to fighting plastic pollution, focusing on the people who work to sort waste on a daily basis: waste pickers. In a collaborative effort with Plastics for Change, The Body Shop’s Community Trade Recycled Plastic initiative will support waste pickers in Bengaluru, India by offering fair and consistent wages and sanitary working conditions, with a commitment to buy 250 tonnes of plastic in the first year. The program will benefit up to 2,500 workers, and their work product will in turn be used in the packaging of 60ml, 250ml and 750ml bottles, amounting to a grand total of 580 tonnes of new plastic saved yearly.

There’s a New Skincare Line Using Spider Silk for Anti-Aging
Arachnophobics, beware: trigger warning ahead. Luxury skincare line Genetica is touting the benefits of real spider silk to reduce the signs of aging and keep skin hydrated, with technology borrowed from biotech company Spidey Tek. “Our process produces spider silk proteins as nanoparticles,” Spidey Tek Chief Science Offering Dr. Randy Lewis said in a statement. “Due to their incredibly small size, these particles are able to penetrate pores, skin lines and cracks much better than other face creams.” The line is also natural, biodegradable and, according to the company, vegan—though actual vegans may have something to say about that—making it a biodegradable alternative to micro-plastics in exfoliators. We just never want to see the inside of their lab.
Male-Only Makeup Brand War Paint Is Facing Some Major Backlash
Do men need their own separate lines of makeup? Maybe. Do they also need hyper-masculine marketing materials to go with it? Twitter thinks not. Made-for-men makeup line War Paint is facing a wave of criticism for a recent ad campaign they put out, featuring a heavily tattooed, highly muscular man dabbing product from a small black jar onto his skin. The clip doesn’t actually show what product is in the pot—the brand sells concealer, tinted moisturizer, foundation, anti-shine powder, bronzer and makeup tools—but does feature a very necessary close-up of a skull ring.
It's not water, it's LIQUID DEATH It's not makeup, it's WAR PAINT It's not an earplug, it's a SKULL SCREW It's not a donut, it's a BRONUT
but it's definitely fragile masculinity https://t.co/MQfw2cSEOi

Beauty Bomb Trend : Is Lip Gloss Making a Comeback?
By Limsan Boulter (@limo_x) for Fashion Bomb Daily
Kylie Jenner, love her or hate her you must admit the girl knows how to seize a good opportunity. Back in the day when she first experimented with her lip fillers and got everyone talking about it, what did she do?  Released a gold mine of a lip kit product, snowballing into a global cosmetics empire and officially initiating the trend of matte liquid lipstick.
Brands such as Huda Beauty, Anastasia Beverly Hills and TooFaced (and of course, King Kylie) all have been the top go-to’s when it comes to the long-lasting liquid lip product.
Kylie Cosmetics have since expanded their product offering to include eyeshadows, eyeliner, glitter shadows, highlighters and more recently, a new line of lip glosses. The High Gloss collection dropped at the start of November, with a recent announcement of a restock on @KylieCosmetics Instagram feed – showing just how popular her glosses are.

This isn’t the first lip gloss that Kylie released, she had previously tested the waters by including some glosses in her birthday and holiday collections, as well as her collaboration with BFF Jordyn Woods teasing the first High Gloss shades: Partner in Crime and 23. Now, her glosses are one of the most popular items across the entire brand.
She’s not the only one. Enter Rihanna, one of the first products she released as part of her now legendary Fenty Beauty line was Gloss Bomb. A one-size-fits-all sheer nude-rose gloss dream to give your lips that Fenty Glow, one of her best sellers when Fenty Beauty debuted last September. For the annual Diamond Ball that Rihanna hosts every September, saw the release of a special line of diamond inspired goods – including the second Gloss Bomb shade ‘Diamond Milk’. Fast forward to December and Gloss Bomb has a new sister, a petal pink color called Fu$$y.

The lip gloss has been remastered. That sticky, almost heavy-feeling lip glosses of the 90’s are over. It’s all about hydrating, comfortable formulas and a mirror shine giving your lips that plump pout look that Ms Jenner would be proud of.
Whether it is clear, glittery or richly pigmented color, it’s safe to say that the glossy lip look is not going anywhere.
Some of our other favorite glosses:
Jordyn Woods back at it with the lip gloss! This time she collaborated with TooFaced to create a special shade called ‘Social Butterfly’ for their new Rich & Dazzling lip gloss line ($21) Image: @toofaced
British Makeup extraordinaire Charlotte Tilbury has a cult favorite gloss, the Lip Lustre ($22). Image: @ctilburymakeup
No stranger to lip products, Huda Beauty has a line of ultra glittery Lip Strobes ($18) Image: @jadeywadey180

Vegan and cruelty free brand Lime Crime with their Wet Cherry gloss line ($18). Image: @limecrimemakeup
Do you like the revamp of lip gloss? Will you be switching your matte lipsticks for gloss? What is your favorite brand?
