While it is undeniable that bands such as Nightwish, Within Temptation and Lacuna Coil helped craft and shape the Symphonic Metal genre, labels such as “clones” and “rip offs” are seldom seen more often than when comparing any female fronted bands to those mentioned above, it is a stick seemingly designed to beat any such new up and coming band with. Aonia on the other hand while clearly playing tribute to their influences have developed their own spin on the symphonic metal genre, combining operatic soprano vocals from the duet vocalists that intertwine and compliment the dual guitars brilliantly with prevalent keyboard work that immediately brought to mind bands such as Sonata Arctica and even Children of Bodom.

Forming in 2010 from the remains of old band Cathexis Aonia have released several E.P.s and are currently working on their debut full length album having taken the intervening years to refine and perfect their craft live on stage culminating with success winning Sheffield’s Metal 2 the Masses.

Aonia will be playing Bloodstock Open Air 2018 on the New Blood Stage Saturday 11th August and promise a live show that is not to be missed.
