Charles Timothy Hagel is an American military veteran and former politician who served as a United States senator from Nebraska from 1997 to 2009 and as the 24th United States secretary of defense from 2013 to 2015 in the Obama administration.
A handsome man, I can't believe I've over looked him over the years. He definitely falls into the 'shaggable-everyday-daddy' category. Again straight (of course he is), being married with two children. While a Senator, Hagel had a tradition of wearing costumes to work on Halloween, usually masquerading as one of his colleagues or other notable political figures, which is useful. What? En el espacio de una hora, Al Qaieda le causó más daño directo a Estados Unidos de lo que había hecho la Unión Soviética durante la Guerra Fría. Esta combinación ha llevado a algunos –especialmente en el mundo musulmán– a buscar un deus ex machina para explicar lo que de otro modo sería inexplicable. Pero el propio Osama Ben Laden afirma que la red Al Qaeda fue la única responsable por el 11 de septiembre. En 2004, dio a conocer un video en el cual explicaba sus tratos con Mohamed Atta, el líder de los secuestradores de aviones.

HISTORIA:
El 11 de septiembre de 2001 dos aviones Boeing 767 embistieron las Torres Gemelas, que con sus 110 pisos eran los edificios más altos de Nueva York.
El primer avión chocó contra la torre norte a las 8:45 de la mañana. El edificio ardió durante 102 minutos y luego, a las 10:28 a.m. se derrumbó en solo 11 segundos.
Dieciocho minutos después del primer choque, a las 9:03 a.m., el segundo avión impactó la torre sur. El rascacielos resistió en llamas durante 56 minutos, tras lo cual, a las 9:59 a.m., colapsó en 9 segundos.

CONSECUENCIAS EN USA:
A efecto de los ataques del 11 de septiembre de 2001, USA y sus socios de occidente establecieron rápido ciertos mecanismos para reforzar su respectiva estabilidad nacional.
Un impacto más del 11/9 ha sido la islamofobia que nació en USA y que estuvo vigente con más fuerza hasta el 20 de enero de 2009, una vez que el precepto del mandatario George W.
Los actores de todo el mundo le brindaron la bienvenida a esta postura conciliadora estadounidense y la islamofobia se atenuó.
En resumen, los ataques del 11 de septiembre de 2001 no únicamente dejaron un saldo de poco menos de 3 mil muertos y bastante más de 25 mil lesionados (muchos de ellos con heridas físicas y emocionales permanentes), sino además aterrorizaron y sumieron en la incertidumbre a parte importante de la raza humana.

SUPERACION DE PARTE DE USA:
El mandatario de Estados Unidos, Barack Obama, ha rendido homenaje a las víctimas de los atentados del 11 de septiembre de hace 13 años con un discurso frente al Pentágono en el cual afirmó que "USA no se rinde al temor" que provoca el terrorismo.
El gobernante hizo una ofrenda en memoria de las 184 víctimas del atentado cometido con el vuelo 77 de American Airlines que se estrelló contra el Pentágono, sede del Departamento de Custodia de EE.UU, y guardó un minuto de silencio flanqueado por el secretario de Custodia, Chuck Hagel, y el líder del Estado Más grande Grupo, Martin Dempsey.
Ante parientes de los fallecidos, supervivientes y empleados del Pentágono, Obama manifestó que, luego de trece años de guerras originadas en esos atentados, USA se elabora para situar fin a la tarea en Afganistán y cerrar un periodo de conflictos que le han costado la vida a más 6.800 de Estados Unidos.

¿Las cosas del Imperio del Norte del Río Grande? Los hábitos nuevos del Imperio (1 de 2)
Los nombramientos de Barack Obama para la Secretario de Defensa y la dirección de la CIA encajan con su proyecto de rehacer el imperialismo de Estados Unidos gracias a una maquinaria de guerra más efectiva y más letal.
El nominado por el presidente demócrata como Secretario de Defensa es un republicano conocido por su conservadurismo, particularmente por su sectarismo anti-gay. Pero la avalancha de críticas contra de la nominación proviene de los republicanos, no de los demócratas. Mientras tanto, la elección del presidente para dirigir la CIA es un antiguo responsable del programas de torturas y entregas. Pero ni republicanos ni demócratas tienen el menor problema con él. Bienvenido a la política realmente existente de Washington en el segundo mandato de Barack Obama: donde no hay ni siquiera una oposición simbólica a la izquierda de un presidente que habría sido considerado, según sus propias palabras, "un republicano moderado" hace unas décadas . Dado el historial de sus primeros cuatro años en el cargo, no es ninguna sorpresa que los nominados de Obama tengan más en común políticamente con los republicanos que dirigían la Casa Blanca antes que con las decenas de millones de personas cuyos votos le hicieron presidente. Pero estas nominaciones tienen lugar sólo dos meses después de que Obama haya sido reelegido tras una importante victoria gracias a que las circunscripciones de base del partido demócrata se volcasen en la campaña. Muchos de esos votantes esperaban que Obama podría llegar a ser en su segundo mandato el progresista que quieren que sea. Chuck Hagel y John Brennan, sus nominados para defensa y la CIA, son la prueba de que no basta con desearlo para que así sea. Obama no se sienta obligado en absoluto, obviamente, a satisfacer las expectativas de sus seguidores ni a actuar de acuerdo con la retórica populista que utilizó durante la campaña. Por el contrario -al igual que con el acuerdo sobre el "abismo fiscal" y sus muchas concesiones a los republicanos-, los nombramientos de Hagel y Brennan muestran lo que Obama quiere para su segundo mandato: una administración en la que la clase dominante de Estados Unidos pueda confiar para defender con mayor eficacia y ampliar su poder corporativo y militar.
La lección es vieja, y se ha repetido antes muchas veces: sin lucha, no habrá avances en la era Obama. La alternativa a un mundo de guerra e imperialismo, crisis social y desigualdad grotesca es evidente que no surgirá en la Casa Blanca o en cualquier otro lugar del Washington oficial, por lo que tendrá que venir de fuera. Desde la perspectiva de un "washingtonologo" la decisión de nominar al ex senador Chuck Hagel de Nebraska para la Secretaria de Defensa ha sido inteligente. Obama actua de manera bipartidista al elegir a un republicano para uno de los cargos más importantes de su Administración, pero Hagel es despreciado por la mayoría de los republicanos como un temido RINO (republicano sólo de nombre). No porque Hagel no sea un conservador acérrimo. Se ganó la hostilidad de los líderes del Partido Republicano a mediados de la década de 2000 cuando se convirtió en uno de los primeros miembros del Congreso de ambos partidos que criticó la "guerra contra el terror" de George W. Bush, en particular la desastrosa invasión de Irak. Cuando decidió no presentarse a la reelección en 2008, Hagel estaba ya más fuera que dentro de un partido que, según dijo, había sido "secuestrado por la incompetencia: creo que eso es lo que ha llevado al Partido Republicano a tirarse por e acantilado". Pero la trayectoria política de Hagel dice mucho más acerca de hasta qué punto el sistema político bipartidista se transformó en la década de 2000 al hacer suya la doctrina de los "neo-cons" que controlaban la Casa Blanca en la época de Bush de "invadir primero, preguntar después". Hagel pertenece al ala "realista" del establishment de la política exterior, que se hizo a un lado durante los años de Bush, pero que no está menos comprometida con el proyecto imperialista de dominación política y militar de Estados Unidos sobre sus rivales. Hagel serán denunciados por los republicanos en las próximas semanas por preferir sanciones duras contra Irán a un ataque militar, o por criticar en ocasiones a Israel (sin que ello implique la menor acción práctica, por supuesto). Pero esto lo situa perfectamente en el consenso de Washington, no en el movimiento contra la guerra. Las posiciones políticas de Hagel son aún más evidentes en aquellos temas de los que nadie está hablando. La caza de brujas anti-gay en el ejército del "no preguntes, no digas" terminó oficialmente sólo hace un año y medio, pero Obama ha elegido a un hombre para dirigir el Pentágono que promovió el "no preguntes, no digas" a lo largo de toda su carrera en el Congreso. Hagel es recordado durante los años de Clinton por su despreciable campaña para bloquear la nominación de James Hormel como embajador de Estados Unidos en Luxemburgo. Hormel no estaba cualificado para una responsabilidad tan importante, según Hagel, porque era "abierta y agresivamente gay". Hagel se disculpó por tan rastrera acusación en diciembre de 2012. "Teniendo en cuenta que está a la espera de un nombramiento presidencial", dijo Hormel a los periodistas, "cabe preguntarse acerca de la sinceridad de la disculpa". Los defensores de los derechos de los inmigrantes podrán recordar a Hagel como el co-autor de la legislación en 2006, que contrarrestó el famoso proyecto de ley Sensenbrenner, que pretendía criminalizar a 12 millones de inmigrantes indocumentados en Estados Unidos. A year later citizens and allies are still fighting for their lives every day. On Aug.31,21 Biden again promised to “help American citizens leave” Afghanistan. A year later has that promise also been broken?

President Joe Biden made the same promise to help American citizens leave Afghanistan in his address to the nation on Tuesday.
However, it is estimated that around 60,000 Afghan interpreters and US allies have been left behind in Afghanistan. This includes an interpreter who helped rescue Biden and former Sens. John Kerry and Chuck Hagel during a snowstorm back in 2008.

The Trump administration has awarded a $55 million contract for N95 masks to a company with no experience producing medical supplies and whose parent company filed for bankruptcy protection last year.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency told Insider that the company, Panthera, is scheduled to deliver the masks on April 23.
Former Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel told The Washington Post that something was "amiss" about this order.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that people cover their mouth and nose with a cloth when they're around others but says to "not use a facemask meant for a healthcare worker."
