Soap leans against the open window, arms crossed to cushion himself on the windowsill. He watches you sew with keen interest, his head settled on his folded arms. You're always flattered by his attention, the way his electric eyes seem to shine just for you, he's terribly charming. He's not so scary in the light of day, not when he's so docile like this. Still, you're happy to be safely tucked inside.

You throw another ladder stitch and pull it tight, watching the thread disappear into the seam as the little foot attaches itself to the body. You give it a gentle tug to make sure it's properly attached and tie off your stitch. You snip your thread and loop the remaining bit around your finger to knot it again. At least you've got the hang of that.

"What's chasing you, hen?" Soap mumbles, his eyes heavy from the sun. You shrug, take the second flipper from your mouth and try to position it on your duck.

"Dunno," You hold up the flipper to find the best hiding spot for the tail of your thread and push your needle through to start the seam, "I've never seen it properly, just felt it."

Soap hums, lets his eyes drift closed. You can't say you don't feel the same, the warmth of the sun through the window is enough to make you drowsy. Maybe you should've made a cat instead, he sort of reminds you of one when he's like this. Then again there are a lot of things Soap reminds you of.

"You sure you can't see?" He asks. You're pretty sure. If you could see all the monsters that walk around the city you wouldn't have thought you were crazy so long. "What's it feel like?"

You pause your stitching to think. "Like walking through a spiderweb," You tell him, going back to your work. He hums again.

"Sounds nasty."

You giggle, something about him always makes you a little giddy. You think it's how easy it is to be around him now that you have an idea of how he works. You trade gifts for... well you suppose nothing. His appreciation, maybe. You don't know what he gets out of it besides the offering, or what he does with the things you give him.

You tug your thread tight to check the seam. It's a cute duck, even if it's kind of shitty. You flap the little flipper feet with your fingers and tie off your thread. You set the floppy thing on the table to snap a photo of it. It's funny how quickly you can switch from giving it away to wanting to keep it now that it's done. When you glance at Soap his eyes are open, watching you over his arms.

"Give it here," He holds a hand out. It's not so much a command as it is a gentle ask. You suppose you did say you'd give it to him when it was done. You hand him the duck with a heavy heart.

Soap stands, turns the plush over in his hands with a smile. His teeth catch his lip, eyes fond in a way that makes your heart heavy with something new. He holds the duck out to you after a few turns, the soft white fabric of it glowing with sunshine. You hold your hands out the window, suspicious, and he sets the plush in your grip.

It's warm. You pull it back inside, not sure what he's doing, or what he's done.

"What's that look?" He laughs.

"You're giving it back." You don't really know how to explain the weirdness of him rejecting your gift. It feels strange, alien in a way you haven't felt before.

"No, I'm lending it to you," He leans against the windowsill again, "It's not much, but it should help you sleep." You blink at him, at the duck. The warmth of it feels like it's spreading through you, drowsy just like laying in the sun. It feels like the long summer days of childhood, like being tucked safely into bed with the sun just falling behind the horizon.

"Thank you," You tell him, flapping the duck's little nubby winds for yourself. You can feel his smile grow, the shine of it, the burn of his heat.

"It's my pleasure."
