Trial and Error: First (ish) Impressions

- not one song under 3 minutes we're bringing the pop back into k-pop god BLESS

2) We Don't Stop: This song is hip hop and rock in one and I think really solidifies xikers' niche in 5th generation as experimenting with different hip hop and rock genres in one. The post-chorus is actually genius bc of how they pace the song, like it gives us time to breathe before throwing all this craziness at us

3) Red Sun: The way I will be working out to this song... we always expect anthemic songs from Kq groups and this is it. I feel like I'm about to take down my enemies in a cyberpunk dystopia.

4) Supercalifragilstic: CLUB BANGERRRRR CLUB BANGERRRR ain't none of them can be at the club but they KNOW. I am a TSRONG believer that every bg should have at least one club banger and this one is xikers'. Im not too well versed in genres but this is definitely a subgenre of house/edm 😁

5) Every Flavor Jelly: they put yechan in front of a mic and said "go crazy" and bro took it personally. ALSO BRIDGE 😭😭🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾 IS SO HEAVENLY

6) Break a Leg: God, teen rock BOP. I don't even know the lyrics but I feel so goddamn emo I have tears in my eyes on the train. They will always know how to close a fucking album. Jesus fuck. Okay. Im actually gonna cry.

I am just overly impressed by how ROCK SOLID this release is! Everything is so tight and seamless and there are no/negligible weak points. Xikers has not even had their first year anniversary yet they have such a strong understanding of their selves, individually and as a group. Even when they go into different genres its successful because they don't lose their selves. At all. There is such a strong sense of identity and authenticity in all these songs and it builds up to a journey that I was all to happy to go on. Hats off xikers, as of rn, Trial and Error is my AOTY.

Boom thoughts

Liveblog under the cut as usual

Tldr: this episode was absolutely brilliant, so much tension, a brilliant storyline, some hard hitting criticisms of capitalism and Christianity/blind faith, side characters you can't help but get invested in and soo many emotional scenes. I can't see anything this season topping this episode for me but it has left me far more excited for the rest of the season than i was previously

Something about the video looks weird. Like it very much just looks like these soldiers are standing in front of a greenscreen

Child character :) Moffat loves a child character and I eat it up every time

Mundy is so beautiful

"They ran out of money" I wonder if the "ambulance" kills injured soldiers to save resources

Ohhh my god that whole sequence with Carson stepping on the mine had me on the edge of my seat and then my jaw on the floor

This episode so far is off to a brilliant start, im already feeling really invested in these characters and the tension is thick

I think for the sake of saving time, the doctor should probably tell ruby that you don't actually need to lock the tardis behind you

This reminds me of Merlins death in Kingsman tho

I missed the doctor telling random stories so much 😭 I'm gonna hc the lesbian gymkhana adventure happened with Yaz and she was sooo annoyed the doctor ruined their outing with a stupid bet

Okay I know its probably just because she's being written by Moffat but I am reallyyy seeing the similarity to Clara now

And we're back to music....this seems to be a recurring theme

Final thoughts: this was an absolute banger of an episode, honestly I fear that none of the other episodes in the season will live up to it. I just enjoyed every minute so much, the build up, the tension, the emotions, the engaging side characters, the running themes and hints at the overall season plot were all absolutely brilliant. It was so good parts of it had me skipping back a few seconds to watch scenes again. I wasn't sure what to expect going in but this exceeded my expectations nonetheless

hello! god this is like asking me to choose a favorite child except i think that would be easier. if i was a parent. it's hard to chose only a few faves but it will TRY to keep this limited... (note from future river: i failed)

fuck this is actually so difficult... ok i have to get closer out of the way

obviously..... predictable choice but it's a hit for a reason ok!! it was my top song on spotify last year and i literally only started listening to nin in october. so good... i saw u respond to my post about track transitions and the transition from closer into ruiner makes me go crazyyyyyyy. i love ruiner as well but again. trying to keep it limited..

ok nearly every song on tds is a favorite so i'm just going to highlight a few more and then i'll give other releases a chance 😭

reptileee.. UGHHH. yeah this one just does something to me. the machinery sounds. yum. that guitar bit that lines up with that one machine sample that's playing throughout (3:43 if u don't know wtf i'm talking abt)... and i like the muffled yelling in the outro

there are songs on tds i guess i technically like listening to more but there's something about this one that makes it special to me. it's comforting somehow! the intro is meditative, and the meat of the song is cathartic. i like how we get the same muffled effect as on reptile, but here even the instrumentals are muffled

BURN!! one of my first favs. so good and aggressive. grraaahhhh

ok gonna try to limit myself to one song per release from here on out bc i really do love so many.....

so fun and funky. the nursery rhyme lyrics are a little silly but i love it. also love the part where he just screams

so many good things abt this one... the first things that made my ears perk up were the synths on the chorus

there's just a weight to the sound of this one that i'm obsessed with atm. also, the crunch is real good

ok already breaking my promise but the fragile has so many songs and i haaave to highlight please. underrated as hell!!! hearing that chorus for the first time changed my brain chemistry (<- could say this about a lot of nin stuff lmao)

So I got asked by @fangomango what some of my favorite end credits scenes are (it was on my main Shadowbanned blog, though, so Tumblr is rude and won't let me answer it there ;-;) but yes, I am so excited to answer this question, because I've wanted to make a full post on my favorite end credits scenes ever since I asked @drawthethingdoppelganger about her favorite end credits scenes:

--One of my all-time favorites is Candy Cane Moose because it's so flipping catchy somehow despite only consisting of a few lyrics that are repeated over and over. Also, seeing the Belcher kids are lil' babies makes me 🥺 I actually screamed when I saw this one for the first time because I was not prepared for the cuteness:

--Of course, I also love Pesto in My Pants, because Bob and Tina's dancing is glorious, and it's just so iconic:

--God, I love I Love U So Much (It's Scary) so much. It's so wholesome seeing the family singing and dancing together and eventually getting Bob to join in as well 🥹. It's so darkly gorgeous, like if light and shadow were transcribed into sound. HIIIII VIRGIL!!!! oh god there's so many.....and u r so real for crying listening to i am free. it's such a lovely song with a lovely message even if it is presented as silly lol. sussie is such a wonderful person and i actually adore her <3333 goodbye is also hilarious and without you (darwin's emo song) is one i quite literally quote on a daily basis

anyway!!!! here are my top 5:

1. the faith song. makes me cry EVERY DAMN TIME. it's so sweet and actually has a wonderful message about how life doesn't have to suck all the time ("if you stop halfway up the mountain you will never see the view" 😭😭😭😭) AND it's like. a Song. like it sounds like it came straight out of a musical lmao. i know the entire thing by heart

2. nobody's a nobody....a classic, as you said. i love it sm and will watch the compilation just for this song lol. it's catchy and it's also ridiculously sweet. just. singing about how everyone is different and that doesn't matter, they're never going to hate anyone for it!!!!! because everyone is unique!!!!!! (the real world could take a few notes from gumball tbh) also the chorus goes so hard. i dance every time

3. without you. absolutely hilarious, also darwin just has an amazing singing voice and i love when he gets his moments lmao because gumball is always interrupting him. "WITHOUUTTT YOUUU I CAAAAAAAN'T BREEEEEEAAAATHE" like??? okay darwin GO OFF. and it's just a great episode overall because it's when darwin and carrie get together ❤️

4. i am free, another classic with a wonderful message!!!!!! sussie is weird, but like, she's weird and she's a good person. she's a good person who is just fine with being herself even if people judge her, because who cares!!!!!! she's free!!!! i also cry listening to that song lol

5. the love song. it doesn't last for the whole episode but i think it's really sweet, especially gumball and penny's line "do we love each other? i guess we sorta do" which makes me giggle every time they're so silly!!!! also , i love how the song shows every type of love, including familial. makes me feel very Seen as an aspec person

oh my GOD this is a tough question 😭

thank you for asking for songs and not ONE song bc that would've been impossible. Actually... this is gonna get a bit long OOPS so I'll throw it under the cut

I love pretty much everything in Suisei's discography, girl constantly putting out win after win. I can't choose one favorite of hers! I'd say out of all her songs I especially love Ghost, Template, Wicked, Stellar Stellar, Tenkyuu, and NCP, as well as 3:12/Sanji Juunihun. All her stuff is just on a whole 'nother level like. Words cannot express how she NEVER MISSES

I'm in a similar boat with Calli's songs, too. Lots of super godly stuff, super crunchy on my ears! My favorites of hers are probably Red, Off With Their Heads, End Of A Life, Ijimekko Bully and Dead on Arrival. Mera Mera is quickly shooting up high on my favorites list, too. Love her lyrics, reaper queen is popping off constantly!

Towa's songs I also love a lot. My top three? Palette's a classic, Born To Be Real is a banger, and My Roar goes off HARD; iirc they got Utsu-P himself to work on My Roar so no WONDER it's awesome. Towa's got an incredible voice especially when she's doing more heavy rock stuff and belting like GIRL. Oh, I also love Madoromi and Over Time - the songs she did with Kanata.

Oh, and I love all of Marine's OG songs. Ahoy and Set Sail make me want to join her pirate crew and go off and do funny hijinks, and Unison is so musically trippy (I almost didn't believe it was in 4/4 time the first couple of listens!) yet addicting! The MVs for Set Sail and Unison too are just so GOOD

Doggy God's Street: A total jam. Like, the fact they got FAKETYPE to work on it?? Instant banger! It's an earworm in the best way possible and the MV is super cute too

High Tide: It's just. Holy shit wow Moona popped OFF you could put this song in a League of Legends trailer or something and it wouldn't be out of place. And if you haven't seen the MV I am SHAKING YOU. Go watch it she's got me - a lore enjoyer - scrambling for so many crumbs it's insane

Astrogirl: Sana's new OG song is so adorable and I love every damn second of the song itself as well as the MV. They got Snail's House/Ujico* to work on it and it's just so wholesome and cute, really made me love Sana and Council even more ;-;

Wonder-La-Der: Kanat's OG song is so high energy and upbeat and perfectly encapsulates our PPT's energy and it's constantly on loop for me; I love how she got almost all of Holopro to cameo in it

Violet: ohhhhhh it's so pretty and elegant and ina's voice is so gentle and the sound mixing is so pleasing on the ears and the mv is beautiful all of it is just *chefs kiss*

Sparks: Probably my KIRA bias kicking in but DAMN this song is a banger. Kiara's voice really fits songs like this and it's also a really solid workout song too LMAO it's my favorite of hers, it slaps! STREAM SPARKS.

Suspect: You may now recognize it as the default BGM for the Holocure game, I just really really love electro swing songs and this is one is no exception. Total bop!

Kiseki Knot: I will never not get emotional over this. The song itself is so good, I love the inclusion of their names into the lyrics, the emotional context regarding the song made it a million times sadder though; oughh I love Holoforce so much, 499 more years to go, gamers.

Inochi: Honestly EVERYTHING of AZKi's is super underrated, but this is my favorite of hers. It's just such a damn good song I can't word good enough to describe it, it's got me with the feels

Aki basically made a freaking pseudo-conlang just for this song, based on the language of her original homeland (since in her lore, she's a half-elf from another world and all)! Girl did NOT have to do that for us and yet she did.

There are so many other amazing songs made by super talented individuals that I haven't mentioned here; I really HAVEN'T covered all my favorites yet. I love Hololive for a lot of reasons but their range of musical talents is one of the big reasons. Honestly I just go out of my way to listen to almost every song Holopro put out because they're all so GOOD

Ugh I'm sorry that you haven't seen them live yet! The concert honestly even now feels like it was a dream. It was so perfect. Yoongi is perfection in real life. He's honestly a big fucking FLIRT on stage which I loved and you could tell last night that he was FEELIN himself. He was in his fuckin element. I think he enjoyed just being able to perform as Agust D although he introduced himself as Suga so cutely lol. The vibes were literally adrenaline powerhouse. Every fucking song was a banger! He did a piano rendition of Seesaw that I loved but I love all the heavy songs so when he did the Cyphers and UGH! it was my favorite part. God, he was so beautiful. I'll never forget last night 💜
