I do think that Raha deciding to honor the wishes of the ALLAGANS for his destiny right after Azure started studying their magics and oppressive regime is hilarious tho

also the main gist is that the three soulbonded meet a small group of researchers at the base of a tower they call the crystal tower and are trying to research it, when the group say that a mysterious magician named amon cursed them to share souls a researcher name graha claims that it would be impossible for that to have been the True amon, as he had died in the end of the allag empire centuries ago, but cant put it out of the question that Someone claiming to be amon has cursed them. The group say they had tried stopping amon who was chasing a girl, who is found by the encampment later bearing uncanny resemblance to the palmira doll, Minfillia. She claims her name is Ryne and she has no recollection of events beyond being chased by a strange magician who offered to help her, and has no clue where she came from. The group decide that the only way to figure out for sure what is going on, and who this mysterious so-called Amon is, is to go into the crystal tower and search for the magician himself, which leads down a winding path of mystery and discovery that nobody is prepared for
#one of the aspects is that ryne graha and after meeting her gaia all have a strange crest on their hands#graha claims its a crest to show one carries royal allagan blood in them but neither ryne or gaia shows any ability controlling#the tower and grahas thesis was entirely limited and based strictly on himself#because when he lived on corvos(?) he was the only one with this mark and it was considered cursed#later amon (REAL) claims hes seen that crest borne on the hand of the doll that brought forth the calamity as it walked across the land#but that still doesnt explain why graha has it even though you later find out gaia and rynes souls were consumed by the doll#well. gaias was. ryne was already there because she was the minfillia that brought the eve of disaster#and her mind was wiped afterwards of all events so she is essentially the palmira doll living amongst the people#and it only gets rekindled when she (on accident) has gaias soul consumed into the doll in a crystal expedition#amon wishes to use this doll as a means for his research but could never obtain it as the doll itself has been said to have disappeared#and all thats left is ryne who is attached to the doll#it all comes back around to how souls work with the doll and hence why he was testing cloning without and with souls#basically to see if it would be possible to clone the palmira doll and just insert any soul into it#they wonder if amon didnt Make the doll despite it being said to be allag technology then Who Did#but he refuses to answer. anyway its emet#brodie was ascian shenaniging some stuff backstage and made the doll and hydaelyn got control of it during the eve of disaster#and sent the doll to another universe. which comes back around when graha has to stand off against amon at the towers center#and while gaia and ryne are transformed into palmira dolls he has to use his crest to Do Something and he doesnt know What or How#but before amon can successfuly pull his little doll stunt graha is suddenly not in the tower but in a field somewhere#with minfillia (REAL) standing over him and in the distance is a building silhouette that looks like the crystal tower#but she claims that this is the time he needs to save#anyway

Can't possibly be me Zenosposting again - what is this a day ending in Y?
Anyway, I've been thinking about the murder boy again. This has mostly spawned from my replaying of the Stormblood patches and seeing Amnesiac Yotsuyu, which sparked a bit of a Nature vs Nuture debate between me and my friends.
Basically, my question for this post is "How much of Zenos' whole deal is Nature (aka He was just born like that) and how much of it is Nuture (aka the enviornment he grew up). Some of you might content to say Nature and leave it at that, which is a completely valid outlook to have. But for me there's just one... teeny... tiny... little detail that has sent me on a wild consipriacy theory of a ride that's resulted in this post. Emet-FUCKING-Selch.
Tumblr media
Listen to me, listen okay? I cannot, CANNOT ignore the fact that this absoulete motherfucker (affectionate) is Zenos's cannonical Great Grandfather. Who was very much alive and kicking during his childhood. Emet-Selch or Solus zos Galvus whatever moniker you wanna give the man, is an Ascian. One of THE Ascians. Not only that, he's 'The Architect" the guy who's job it is to design and engineer the calamities meant to rejoin the Shards of the World back together again. What does he do to achieve this? He builds empires, he starts wars, manipulates people and situations to result in untold elemental chaos. Iirc correctly he's responsible for causing all eight calamities that have occured so far in FFXIV. (Eight got undone but I'm still counting it).
Now for this post I'm going to be focusing mainly on the Seventh, Eighth, and Fourth Umbral Calamities. (Which are the ones coincidentally we're told the most about in game). This Calamities all involved Empires. The Allagan and the Garlean, both of which Emet-Selch was responsible for creating. From the Allagans we have the creation of Dalamud, Cyrus Tower, and the Ultima Weapon. As well as an extensive history of biological research. Cloning, Gene Splicing, Mutation and so on. (A sundered mortal's attempts at creation magjicks perhaps?) The Garleans too, have a notible history of biological research, they draw a lot of their modern technology from Allagan design. No coincidence there given Emet-Selch's involvement. But we've seen them use genetic mutation, cyber augmentation, and cloning (Emet-Selch's shadow the hedgehog ass clone bodies because he refuses to look like anyone other than his unsundered self). The also so a lot of research into the Echo. Hydalyn's mark for her champions, and soul maipulation. (Ala Mihgo Dungeon and In From the Cold Duty both points of note for examples of the Soul being manipulated here - physically torn out of the body).
"Now Gengar " - I hear you ask - "What does this have to do with Nature vs Nuture or Zenos?" Well, I tell you, everything really. Hear me out. Emet-Selch designed the Garlean Empire to be the perfect chaos causing conquest force. They have no ability to use either, making them initially vulnerable as a people to the rest of the races. Building up a tasty, tasty resentment and need to feel superior. He sent them marching to 'reclaim their home' and then to 'unify the three contents under their superior peaceful, organised leadership'. The 'Savage Races' summon evil primals and weild evil distructive magjiks. He gave them a perfect cause and reason to hate everyone else. He gave them magitech to level the field and make them supieror at combat. Garlemald as a nation is the perfect war machine. Allagan 2.0 if you would. And Zenos is the perfect 'Champion' to lead that nation into battle. To spark that next Calamity. Look at the guy. Garleans might be on the taller side (depending on the character. Cid is a shorty), but Varis and Zenos are HUGE. Emet-Selch isn't nearly as tall as either of them despite being a blood relation. Which makes me think there was some of that Allagan/Garlean/Ancient playing with genetics and form at work. Make them bigger, more durable, stronger, more intelligent.
It's like Captian America. You want the perfect solider. And a perfect solider for Emet-Selch would also need to be cold, ruthless, manipulative.
There was a post I saw a while again about Mecha Pilots. And OP pondered on the idea of physcially having your brain and body contiditoned to love battle. To love destruction and killing and fighting.
Do you see where I am going with this?
You want someone bloodthirsty enough to cause a Calamity for you, you need them to feel nothing for their fellow man. (Insects all of them. Disappointing. Found Wanting.) You need them to find such overwhelming joy in battle that no other earthely pleasure can compare to it. (Brilliant. Blinding. Trandsenant Moment.)
No attatchments. No emotions, Just violence. I offer to you dear readers, that Emet-Selch carefully modified Zenos' litterally brain chemistry. Making him predisposed to a lack of empathy and his brain releasing those pesky joyous chemicals during battle. Inflicitng and feeling pain. I offer the theory that Zenos has literally been built for combat. If you cut him open, his bones and muscles and organs would be so alienly perfect. Denser, perfectly optimised. Exceedingly perfect. His brain remapped for pattern recognistion and quick skill building, Easy to train in the art of slaughter and tactics. Unable to forge the emotional connections that would only serve to hinder him. (To isolate him from family).
What evidence to I have? Outside of Emet-Selch's known history of building Empires? Easy. I already know he's done this kind of thing before.
Tumblr media
Vauthry. The baby Emet-Selch mutated into half a Lightwarden. Able to command the Sin Eaters and ensured would be raised into a tyranically, childish, king. To keep the First from Uniting. To ensure the Eighth Umbral Calamity would continue along it's march to completion.
Why wouldn't Emet-Selch have done as much to Zenos too?

"I'm so relieved to have you at my side, my loves," G'raha declared. "The fate of the star was not just in my hands, but yours too, and I cannot say how proud I am of us."
"Even me?" asked Frog, as Erenville rolled his eyes and tried not to look affected by the praise, despite the please twitch of his ears.
"Even you and the Gleaners did your part, Bounding Frog."
Day 5: Alternate Universe | In Another Life
"Oh, I don't think much about alternate universes except joke ones where Frog runs off with the Fuath but there's not like any lore or anything - Oh my god that one time Frog trolled Erenville by pretending to be a new Gleaner." *immediately comes up with 3 pages of backstory*
Anyway meet fucked up Allagan bloodline Erenville, Gleaner Frog and Warrior of Light G'raha :D (I really ought to have made Frog's colour scheme without the pink but it's so much a part of her I forgot it's from her Azem legacy until long after I posed and took the picture :P Really, G'raha should have pink highlights and a pink eye since I only have 1 canon Azem who is the forebear of any WoL in any AU I have and they have the Blessing of Pastel Pink Aesthetics they pass on)
Not a canon relationship as of the current waning days of Endwalker we're in and I can feel Frog trying to kill me with her mind for putting her this close to Erenville because this is currently her Nemesis and I am being a very bad blorbo caretaker by shipping them before plot has elapsed... But Erenville doesn't scare me as much as Y'shtola does so I can get away with it as long as Frog can't become so OP she can reach out of the fourth wall and murder me :P May be a level 100 ability but I hope the narrative gives me an opportunity to set her up with Erenville before then. And of course I ship G'rerenville 5eva.
WoL!G'raha's special interest wouldn't just be Allagan horrors but ALL the horrors and he'd know the most about manipulating aether for combat against primals and how to kill them all. It's joked that Hydaelyn blessed him with the Echo because she wanted to spare him bothering Krile with any more questions and tests and puzzles, and gave him the Blessing of Light so he could go off and do his own research. He made a beeline for the Scions of the Seventh Dawn and became their champion with a try hard attitude and known for his enthusiastic thumbs up whenever tasked with the hardest task.
Erenville diligently and quietly studied all he could on Allagan Horrors to learn what his family's dark secret was, but never made it too well known why he was studying it, or that his one gold one red eyes were anything strange. However, his quiet competence got him sent to Erozea to help Rammbroes, and despite all his attempts to lay low, he found himself there at the unlocking of the Crystal Tower, learning way too much about himself in front of people who couldn't unhear it, and pushed along by an over-enthusiastic Warrior of Light who could not shut up about how great an advantage such a magical connection could be. Still, Erenville is calm and professional and when the time came and he knew there was no other way, he shooed the Sons of St Coinach out of the Tower and looked almost dispassionately over his shoulder to G'raha and bid him farewell.
The Exarch was, of course, 1000x more impenetrably vague and annoying but - and this was rather difficult for the Exarch to handle - the huge dark ears sticking out of his hood did give G'raha a hint about who he may be dealing with, though he suspected all sorts of terrible things like Allagan clone or robot and so on before daring to hope it was truly Erenville - when he realised the plan was to tidily pack himself and the Light away with a minimum of melodrama and fuss. This was mostly because of the extremely intricate plans for running the Crystarium in his absence that Erenville had bequeathed before they left for Mt Gulg. It was all just too like him.
G'raha made a ten times more melodramatic intervention while actively coughing up Light everywhere, but Emet-Selch is going to Emet-Selch and can't stand the Warrior of Light being as big a drama queen as he is so he just shoots Erenville and kidnaps him to the Tempest because he's fed up of G'raha talking and posing. A rescue was mounted, love confessed, everyone forgave everyone and cried a lot etc etc.
Erenville joined the Scions after that and provided a sensible counterpoint, inexplicably becoming close to Alisaie (she reminds him of Wuk Lamat but he still hasn't disclosed an onze of backstory).
When they come to Sharlayan for help to stop the final days, they meet an over-worked but still cheerful Gleaner who can lift a whole Troll over her shoulder, and is very helpful and friendly winking and showing them the secret paths. Of course, Bounding Frog is a born Gleaner - she's loved animals forever and had mapped the whole mountain ecosystem around her home village. Sent to Sharlayan by her parents to study the things she loves, she'd quickly risen through the ranks of the Gleaners to become one of their trustiest hands.
She did see through G'raha hopping around as a frog instantly, and on hearing of the incident Erenville only wryly said "I'm sure I could have played a better toad." This could not be disputed, as Y'shtola refused to cast the spell frivolously to settle their debate.
Frog kept in contact and kept them updated on events in Sharlayan once they left to take the fight to the Telophoroi and kept them updated on the Blasphemies once the final days began; by the time G'raha returned from Elpis having learned of an Azem somehow even more annoying that the most annoying interpretation of Azem you've previously heard of, they had all become very fond of one another. By the time they set off for the stars, G'raha and Erenville had admitted to each other they both had a huge crush on the huge Gleaner, and she in turn was waiting for their return more anxious for them than the entire fate of the star.
And of course once they came back from Ultima Thule, Frog's only problem was working out which one of them to smooch first, before carrying G'raha off somewhere quiet to sit and hug and be extremely relieved and happy together :')

Today I'm thinking about how Endwalker is about the futility of giving your life a purpose. The unhappiness. More importantly, how there's a gentle light in the lack of one.
Think of the societies that had ended hopeless because they had reached their goals.
The dragons renounced war only to be conquered by the Omicron. Though they fought the Omicron off, their land began to die, and when they realized that they could not find another world without war, they gave up.
The Ea had sought knowledge. They did everything they could, abandoned their bodies, and finally, they found all the knowledge they could need and turned their gaze to the final fact. When the universe would die. Knowing that they could find no purpose. There was nothing else to learn and they had geared themselves for knowledge so heavily that they could find no other things to chase, knowing death would come for them in the end. They gave up.
The Omicrons had sought power. Fighting greater and greater enemies until they could find nothing left to fight that might teach them anything. Eventually, Sir came to believe that the Omicrons no longer served a purpose. Like the Ea, Sir could see no other direction in which the Omicrons could seek purpose, believing that it simply wasn't possible. Sir gave up.
The denizens of Ultima Thule aren't the only ones. Metion lists several in her report.
Deka-penta lived in service to a higher power that destroyed it in a fit of rage. The higher power destroyed itself shortly after, possibly because, like a primal, it had solely lived for the faithful that had made it and lacked any purpose now that they were gone. Another world strived to make a land with no conflict. They became detached from those that should have been their loved ones to prevent personal strife, and their world collapsed.
In the Dead Ends, we see yet more.
One world was struck with plague, and in an attempt to survive, they sought to destroy each other to purge the plague, giving up on a cure. Another world became embroiled in war, seeking freedom and peace using violence, until there were no people left to be freed from. One world sought to remove sorrow, only to find that joy without any other emotions became empty, and they became depressed, giving up on a meaningful life.
In modeen day, we know of Garlemald and Allag. The former fell to civil war, as that was what it had been built for. Its people only knew war, and to follow their radiant leader. When that leader was removed, they had none to war with but themselves, and collapsed inward, its people having already given up hope on any help from the outside world.
The latter, too, had been founded with the flawed purpose of conquest, and at its height ruled most of the world. When their leader passed, the Allagans pushed for greater knowledge, greater creation, greater technology, but stagnated nonetheless, as their culture had been designed to take and there was nothing left to take from. Xande was cloned and began to conquer the last traces of the world, but the Allagan people knew there was no purpose in it and fought back against his rule, ultimately spelling their end.
Finally, there was Amaurot. A culture so dedicated to the concept of purpose that some, like Hermes, could not accept the concept of there not being one. Their ultimate purpose was dedicated to the star itself, and they cared for it deeply, even to their own expense, never sharing deeper feelings, always keeping anything that did not pertain to their purpose to themselves. When the Final Days came, they were overwhelmed by the very emotions they had pushed down, and they knew no mechanisms to push through or seek help. Ultimately, Hydaelyn decided they would never be able to as they were, and sundered them. Whether or not she was right is not the purpose of this.
I'm sorry, did I say finally? i actually had some individuals to dig into as well. Zenos, whose chosen purpose was combat, the battle high. He knew that there was no true overarching purpose or meaning in life, knew that he could choose his own, but failed to see how he could have multiple, how he could have connected to others and seen a better life had he tried, until the very end. The Ascians, whose chosen purpose was to undo the sundering, unable to see the true value in the sundered world due to their focus. Hermes, whose purpose had been seeking purpose, unable to see the truth before his eyes that there not being one wasn't a bad thing.
The point is that every one of these worlds and people had the concept of purpose guiding them. And they were unable to pull away from that purpose in the end. They died unhappy, save for Zenos and Emet-Selch, who in their final moments saw a different light in the Wol and took comfort knowing that there truly was something else out there.
It's a life lesson. There's a lot to live for. Try to keep your eyes open for more. You'll be happier.

This is a Very Bad Day for Everyone Involved. Artoirel looks real shaken, here. ) :
yes please stay with Clem, he's dealing with the loss of who he thought would be a good figurehead of the church. Again.
And Aymeric... hasn't said anything since he struck Vartinoix down.
...
Tumblr media
Atta boy, Clem.
Tumblr media
... Aymeric isn't doing well, is he?
Let's see what we can do to get more information about the summoning. I like how they reference the fact that summoning Thordan and the Knights Twelve failed because of a lack of aether - no Nidhogg Eyes, and no Warring Triad. But they did summon a champion of sorts - and I'm betting they summoned one of the original Knights Twelve.
Also, talking to the other summoners resulted in them panicking and Turning! let's, uh, try another method to figuring out more about this clone.
Onwards! To Camp Dragon... head...
Tumblr media
;_;
So we got some clues - it looks like there was a low-flying airship straight before Vaindreau was found. In order to find any sign, we gotta spread out and search by air -

Oop, time for the Echo. Gimme a sec, Aymeric.
Tumblr media
... the dude didn't even know who or what he was. The entirety of the Knights Twelve were intended to be brought forth through summoning.
Tumblr media
... at least one name seemed to stick out.
Tumblr media
Yeah, the fact that the Archbishop and Knights Twelve are dead isn't gonna be welcome news to this guy -
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ah. Well.
Here we are, then.
Tumblr media
Hup, sorry! What've I missed?
Tumblr media
Ah.
Okay.

Going through my new game+ playthrough of shb has been making me think a little bit more about miko and g'raha. Gonna ramble under the cut a bit here
Mostly just about the point at which miko knows the exarch is g'raha, essentially. Like I dont think he's actually in the dark about the exarch's identity the entire time. The exarch has the same voice as g'raha, after all, and miko having felt so close and cared about g'raha before he was locked inside the tower it would only make sense he'd recognize his voice immediately. But there's just that constant question of if its g'raha why isn't he saying so? And miko does mention and ask him about g'raha at the beginning of shb and the exarch brushes it off saying he never found anyone else in the tower I think thats when miko would start really getting suspicious. Like is this just another ascian type being parading about in g'raha's body? They seem trust worthy and sincere enough for now so he isnt gonna bring it up and accuse him of being in cahoots with the ascians he's already fought. The exarch's motivations are also the opposite of what the ascians are trying to do so maybe if he is like them he's one that's gone rogue? Would explain his secrecy anyway. But then miko would think of other explanations like maybe he is a clone of his old friend? Allagan technology is strange and beyond him but unei and doga had been clones so it could certainly be a possibility that its a copy of the g'raha he once knew. But then maybe its just something as simple as memory loss. His body is obviously corrupted by crystal and who knows what that has done to him so maybe he just can't remember miko?
So basically miko is just wracking his brain with ideas and explanations as to what happened to his old friend exactly. Because it's very much his body at least that he's dealing with here. But I feel like the longer miko is on the first and the more the two interact there'd just be subtle signs that miko would pick up on that no, this is his g'raha. It has to be. And then I feel like it's not until that moment before they make the giant talos to take them up to mt gulg when g'raha talks to him about wanting to spend time with his adventurer friend without the need of concealment that miko is 100% certain this is in fact his old friend. That soft and knowing smile he'd give him. Not wanting to press him for answers, knowing he must have good reason for trying to conceal his identity and trusting when all is done and the fate of the first has been secured that then g'raha would give him the explanations he's owed. But that moment both knowing the other knows from this vague admission and its enough to just be there together finally.
And then everything goes kaboom after mt gulg xD but yeah anyway just rambly thoughts and its fun to go through the story again and figuring out what exactly is going through miko's mind during it all ;u;

About Koh Rabntah/Noah and Eureka Orthos
Tumblr media
Koh/Noah is a side NPC that used to launch a trio of weekly quests for the Crystal Tower (back when it was relevant). She's also a character that I brought into the Spot of Mummery storyline during the very first story arc.
I've developed them as friends to Amon, and Koh is a part of our FC (as my own alt character). Over time, I gave her a make-over because... well... look at the glams she's stuck with as an NPC...
And look at her now!
Tumblr media
One story line I've always wanted to write, but haven't yet, is a follow up to Amon's promise - that he would find a way to separate Noah's spirit from Koh's body in a way that Noah would have a life of her own to live (yes, Noah is a SHE). He's not followed through because, in part, he just doesn't have access to that kind of tech or a good cloned body to do the work.
Why talk about Koh/Noah?
The whole point of bringing this up, and on this weekend, is we know that Koh/Noah will be the NPC that introduces Eureka Orthos in patch 6.35. Her previous quests have been removed already, so that means from here on, Koh/Noah will be introduced only with the new Eureka storyline.
This got me to thinking. The whole Koh/Noah predicament (how they're sharing one body) has never been addressed. Often, S/E will return to side NPCs to review their stories and improve their lives. Koh/Noah have been around for 9-something years, but they have been left without resolution.
So what if this is an opportunity to address this? What if part of the storyline for us to go into these labs is to help find a way to give Koh and Noah their own lives by separating them.
We've seen Noah portrayed in game as one of the "good Allagans" - she voices her dislike of Allagans meddling with Eorzean life. We know that she was the teacher of Unei and Doga (also good Allagans).
An enchanted lute she created (that was enchanted for good purposes) was involved in a Crystalline Mean crafting quest line. Other than her being somewhat a wild child (based on her description in the lore book), Noah seems to be someone who deserves a second chance. And Koh deserves to get her life back.
Tumblr media
(Above: My version of Noah and Koh.)
So what do you think? Will they have a bigger part to play in the Eureka Orthos story than just the quest giver? I'm going to have to change my character sheet yet again if so!

After a lot of hard work, it appears the alchemists of the Great Work are prepared to test their completed talisman.
Tumblr media
It will be Nidhana I escort to the tower. Which is too bad, because I like her, and I am positive something bad is going to happen.
Tumblr media
The warding scale appears to be working, but Nidhana wants to get closer, to be thorough. After all, the idea is to send soldiers inside the tower, where the effect should be strongest.
Tumblr media
Nidhana. That door is open. Get away from the door.
Tumblr media
Get away from the door! GET AWAY FROM THE DOOR!
Tumblr media
Oh, it's chains. I expected her to get eaten or something.
Tumblr media
The Tower of Zot is considerably larger on the inside than its counterpart in Paglth'an.
Tumblr media
Goddammit Fandaniel.
Tumblr media
No no no nononono!
Tumblr media
No! She dropped her scale!
Tumblr media
Nidhana!
Tumblr media
Your patrons wouldn't have happened to be Allagans, would they?
Tumblr media
I expected as much. But. "Theoretically speaking"?
Tumblr media
Also not surprising. I had gleaned you were not especially attached to the Ancient you used to be. You actions would not make sense otherwise.
Tumblr media
Ah. Fascinating. I wonder what went "wrong" for you to end up this way?
Tumblr media
Yes. Tell me. I want to know everything.
Tumblr media
Oh shit. He's Amon himself? But, I killed Amon!?
Tumblr media
Ah. An echo vision. And Amon's contemporaries are just as despicable as I expected them to be, having seen the crystal tower and the remains they left in Azys Lla. Reminds me, in a way, of Eulmore. There seems to be a throughline in this game that idleness and complacency beget cruelty and moral decay. I feel like there must be a name for that kind of philosophy, but I cannot think of it...
Tumblr media
Ah, death. The great equalizer. Xande did not enjoy that death stripped of him his power? And now he is unable to shake the idea that all this is but temporary?
Tumblr media
Surprise Emet-Selch cameo!! He's wearing his mask...? Oh right, because Solus won't exist for anther few thousand years yet. Oh Emet-Selch, I've missed you, you terrible bastard of a man...
Tumblr media
It was a clone I fought in Syrcus? Why am I surprised. So many clones in that raid.
Tumblr media
To one extent or another, all the Ascians have sounded depressed once we get to know them. But this guy. Man. Fandaniel. You sound depressed. Just because the end is the same, does not mean the journey is without value.
Tumblr media
Oh damn, he ditched me while I was having a vision. Well, there's a first for everything. At lest he didn't kill me?
Tumblr media
Oh wait, there he is. Ah. And of course, he wouldn't kill me: my bestie Zenos would be upset.

Date: XX - X - XXXX. Met prospective new patron today. First impressions: Direct. Well-spoken. Vain, but not overly narcissistic. Confident in his power, if insecure in his mortality. As equally well-versed in the intricacies of court politics and noble society as he is in matters of war and conquest. Intelligent enough to avoid the traps laid out before him by Amon and his ilk, but not quite so much that he can see the noose already tightening about his neck. Quite attractive in profile, if only from his right side; such a terrible shame about his left. Most importantly, the man is possessed of a favorable temperament and more than enough material wealth to suit my needs. Construction of Arachnion proceeds apace, and he is more than willing to divert funds toward its completion so long as he receives of the fruit of my labor; a simple promise, all too easily fulfilled. Yes, he will serve me rather nicely.
[ . . . ] As an aetherochemical researcher of the late Allagan era, Damophon is best known today for his research into preserving one’s continuity of consciousness during transference of the soul into various media, both organic and inorganic. To this end he made numerous innovations in the field of cloning technology, some of which have been mistakenly attributed to his more infamous colleague and counterpart Amon. In fact, the entirety of his body of work might have been thusly misattributed had it not been for the man’s habit of meticulously chronicling his day-to-day activities, no matter how mundane. Among these meticulously-kept notes can be found detailed records of Damophon’s many patrons: Allagan nobles of varying renown, each one bearing deep investment in the idea of immortalizing their names through contributions to science, or quite literally immortalizing themselves through Damophon’s discoveries. Only one such patron is never referred to by name, nor does Damophon attribute to him any other identifying information, as he indicates this particular patron’s funding is to be directed strictly toward a project ‘of utmost secrecy and import.’ Nevertheless, Damophon seems to have taken great interest in this chosen venture, as his writings on the matter — those which have been discovered thus far, to wit — indicate a level of vigor and interest rarely seen in his other reports. This interest is likewise shared with his mysterious patron, with whom he associates only a coded name: the Hanged Man.

24 for edgy memes, for Medusa please!!
24. What is an alternative life path your OC might have gone down? How different would their life be if they'd made those decisions?
oh cut for bad times
I have written interactions between Medusa and the 7th Scylla Clone on this exact subject, and Medusa is convinced that if she had stayed in Meracydia, she would be dead and that might be preferable to what is going on by the time this conversation occurs. I don't think that's completely out of the question in this case - the war *is* happening, and Meracydia ends up getting scorched, whether by Medusa's hand or some other Allagan nightmare. She'd have a clear conscience, but that doesn't mean much to a corpse.
Morbidity aside, I do think part of the reason that Medusa accepts Emet-Selch's offer in the first place *is* that she's lonely - she's already burned bridges with her family entirely when she left for Allag in the first place, and the idea of someone caring for her (even if technically he cares about someone else entirely) is not an insignificant factor.
So the other point of divergence then would be whether she goes home with Scylla Proper the night of the office party or stays to end up in the World of Darkness and really getting herself entrenched with Amon (and subsequently against Daedalus and Emet-Selch). In which case, I think Scylla would end up betraying her at some point: it's very clear to longer-term members of the Court that Scylla is manipulating Medusa, and she's falling for it entirely. And I don't think at that point anyone would step up to help her either (and why would they?).
I can say that what Medusa *wants* is safety and companionship. She wants to trust people, she wants to rely on others knowing that they will support her, she wants to be soft and comfortable and honest and she does get a bit of that with Scylla m.7 (and almost Antonio's clone too). So there is a bit of a daydream-y 'what if my life was different' aspect to this, combining the rose-colored memories that Emet-Selch has of Ariadne and the illusion of privacy that her own apartment provides her, but she knows that none of that will ever actually work out for her.

I saw your response about ships and decided to see what you thought about some of the rare ones I like! I thiiiink you encountered these at one point on the book club but perhaps not.
Nero/Solus(rehydrated)
Nero/Exarch
Nero/m!wol
Varis/wol
Emet/Exarch/Nero
The Chais/wol
The Chais/Innocence (these here and below literally just occurred to me, but...)
The Chais/Exarch
The Chais/Emet
Innocence/Exarch
I'm actually not in the bookclub! But I have heard mention of some of these pairs!!
There's a lot here so I'll do a cut :3
Nero/Solus
When you say rehydrated I'm assuming you mean like, the more youthful Solus? I think if anything Nero would be way too fascinated by the allagan cloning and it was just irritate Solus gjdsgjds I could see them as like fwb but without the friends part lol colleagues with benefits I guess?? I get the sense Nero has a really hard time being emotionally vulnerable but likes to have fun physically at least
Nero/Exarch
Okay omg... I have to tell you... I had this like cracked AU idea before that like, Nero ended up as the exarch instead?? Like since he was really trying to stay inside the tower at the end of the CT quests I was like hey what if he did... So I don't think it's a stretch to imagine they both ended up in there! Hundreds of years of isolation with just the two of them, I think they'd spend a lot of time deep in their research and work but would eventually develop some sort of codependency. I think that would be interesting to see! :D
Nero/m!wol
I think it would depend on the wol's backstory but I think it could be interesting! Wol/npc stuff is always tricky to navigate because I think where it's great with one wol it doesn't work with another, so I think it's a bit hard to answer since one half of the ship is always going to be up to interpretation since it's an OC. But I think just looking at it from Nero's perspective, I could see it starting as another competitive sort of thing with Cid-- feeling like he's stealing the wol away from him, whether or not Cid had romantic interest in the wol or not, but just wanting to claim something against him in their neverending rivalry. I do like that you specified m!wol too because I can't imagine Nero with a woman personally
Varis/wol
So I actually do ship Varis with an OC! Not the wol though, the OC is Zenos' mom although I know technically she does have a name in canon now but I pretend I do not see it lol. It's a really tragic ship the way I do it because it leans into azemet kind of, where she wasn't Azem but was an ancient who was with Emet and is now sundered and married to Varis. To kind of compound their already bad family dynamic and make Emet sadder lol (affectionate).
But speaking of Varis specifically with the wol, I think that could be really interesting too! I think back to that scene in the stormblood patches where he absolutely owns the whole alliance and they're all scrambling like oh shit we actually know next to nothing about this guy what the fuck dsgjsdj iconic scene and one of my favorite parts of the game, but I would want to think that's where there's a turning point for the wol. They're like fascinated with him and feel so conflicted about everything. I think it would be a really good launching point for an AU where the wol switches sides and I would love to see it :D
Emet/Exarch/Nero
Well I love Emet/Exarch already so I think adding Nero into the mix would be interesting as well! I feel like it would be a combination of my answers above for Nero/Solus and Nero/Exarch. Possibly brings out the vindictive shitty side of Nero if he was already getting codependent with the Exarch (I could see him acting that way toward the wol as well) and I think it would be a really destructive relationship for the three of them. But that's sort of the appeal of Emet/Exarch anyway imo, that they make each other worse and I think adding Nero to that would just compound it
The Chais/others
I will combine these all into one answer because it is going to be the same (possibly disappointing) one: I love the Chais but I really don't see them having an open relationship. I feel this way about the Leveilleurs too, and I know it's popular with both of them to have it be an open relationship. I am just really passionate about being a monogamous wifeguy and so I absolutely project that onto m/f ships gdsjgjds Extremely weak for the devoted husband who is kind of insufferable otherwise but he's just a gooey sweetheart with his wife 🥺 it's too relatable for me so I can't bring myself to ship it as poly due to it having that personal sort of connection for me. I'm sorry!! 😭
Innocence/Exarch
I hadn't thought of this before but it's an interesting thought 👀 Sort of like a bad end scenario, I feel like? The Exarch was ready to throw himself away in that moment so why not let himself be corrupted? Or consumed? My brain immediately goes to body horror type of stuff for them and it's a lovely thought, I will need to ponder this one more ☺
I hope you found my thoughts on these interesting! Thanks for the ask! I definitely hadn't considered a lot of these before!!

11. Has your OC ever read (or otherwise engaged with) a guide to romance and/or lovemaking? Have they had a chance to put this learning into practice?
Tumblr media
You know, Ruhka probably has? Not on purpose, or that he looked for such things, but he has gotten random lots of books and cheap romances are likely still commonplace when you take into account the Ul'dahn mammet copywriting industry churning out dimerags (10gil rags?), possibly some oldschool ishgardian lord/ladies guide to courting and marriage with a section on the marital bed and the like.
What I can see him finding, and reading in horror, an allagan 'kama sutra', which while some of it might be tame, a too large portion would involve clones and transformations and other aethero mechanical monstrosities he's sure would result in pain and/or death instead of pleasure. He comes out of it somewhat scarred and self assured he's maybe more vanilla than he'd previously thought.

Text
I can’t believe we all just collectively failed to pick up on the fact that G’raha got fucking brainwashed.
Like, this isn’t even subtext, it’s the text, he spells it out that he was a sleeper agent for Xande’s daughter after she imbued her memories and royal blood into his family line specifically to be custodians of the tower in the future, and receiving the royal blood from the Unei and Doga clones “awakened” those memories.  And THAT’S what makes him seal himself in the tower.  The whole “the Crystal Tower must be a beacon of hope” thing isn’t his wish or his dream, it was programmed into him by the clones’ royal blood.
Before going into WoD, he tells us directly that from the moment he met the clones, he could feel something changing in him, he started to recall memories that weren’t his.
G’raha when we first meet him is way more like the Crystal Exarch.  Confident, mysterious, playful, a love for theatrics, an adventurer.  He doesn’t even bother to address you as Warrior of Light or hero, just “adventurer”.  From the first he sees you as an equal, but over the course of the Crystal Tower series, he’s constantly told that he’s not a hero, he should let You, The Hero do the fighting, that he’s better off staying behind, and then the fucking Allagan clones activate his sleeper agent programming that tells him he exists to serve a symbol rather than be a person.
All the hopeful vibes at the end of Crystal Tower are significantly marred by the fact my boyfriend G’raha got MIND CONTROLLED AND FORCED TO BE A SUBSERVIENT MARTYR, and it still hasn’t worn off even in Endwalker, where he still believes, despite accomplishing far more than the WoL could ever dream of and being more than their equal in ability, that he is a servant, an assistant, a sacrifice for the greater good.
God it’s so fucking unfair, Raha I’m making you donate blood to get that fucking poison out of your system.
