This week on: Things I Did Not Expect To Happen At Shul When I First Started Going - talking about Star Wars Fanfiction, including my *Own* Fic, at a table full of people twice my age. And them being thoroughly and enthusiastically interested?? Followed by a lengthy conversation about the importance of creative outlets, coping through story telling, and how that ties in with Jewish culture and history. And somehow that lead to another big conversation about queer Jewish history and what our shul is doing to help support our queer members and what we can do to make sure that they feel seen and heard and accepted.

Like I still get anxious about attending because I'm still new there, but every single time I go I leave feeling a genuine sense of belonging and comfort and kinship that makes me so grateful I stepped out of my comfort zone and reached out to get involved.

He'll babble out so many apologies and might start crying if you don't stop crying

Scout feels absolutely terrible that he made you cry and he promises that he didn't mean it

He'll cradle you in his arms and try to calm you down

Once you stop crying he'll bury his head in the crook of your neck and continue apologizeing

Soldier

It takes him a second to see.youre crying

Immediately he feels so mucb guilt wash over him he never meant to make you cry

Soldier will rush over and careful ask to touch you

If you nod he'll pull you into his arms and start mumbling "sorrys" in a surprisingly quiet voice

Even when you stop crying Soldier doesn't let go until you ask and he'll stare at you with the saddest look on his face and promise he didn't mean to make you cry

Demoman

Demo might start crying if you start crying

He feels terrible when your sad but knowing it was him who made you cry nearly breaks him

He'll quietly hold you and rub your back whispering words of comfort and apologies for his behavior

Even the next day Demo will continue to do small things to make up for what happened

Even if you tell him it's okay he still feels really bad

Pyro

Pyro notices the tears rolling down your cheeks and panics wondering who did before realizing it was themself

They are mortified by what they did to make you cry and desperately try to calm you down

They let out muffled apologies and desperately tell you that they didn't mean it

If you don't let Pyro hug you they might start crying too while telling you that they promise they didn't mean it

Heavy

Heavy made you cry? Whoof

Scout probably told Heavy it would make you laugh but now your crying and Heavy is panicking and Scouts gonna die soon

Heavy will careful walk over to you and give several genuine apologies saying he's sorry

He feels terrible that he made you cry and will understand if you want to be left alone

Over yhe next couple days Heavy tries to give you extra love just because

Medic

Medic is speechless when he sees you crying and it's because of him

For once Medic feels incredible guilt for his actions

He'll rush over and apologize and wipe the tears from you eyes and try to calm you down

Medic will be extra careful with his words after that and will make sure not to make you cry again

He does feel terrible and might go quiet for a while to think of a way to make it up to you

Sniper

Sniper tried to make a joke for once and now he's never trying again because you're crying

Sniper doesn't know what might hit a nerve because he doesn't go out much but he knows he just did on accident

Sniper will flutter around you and try to calm you down but he really doesn't know what to do

He's profusely apologizing and he feels absolutely terrible right now

After that he'll give you random stuff and do nice little things as some extra apologies

Spy

Seeing your tears has Spy freezing in his tracks

He didn't know that would make you cry and now he feels really bad :(

Spy will try to apologize but he doesn't really know how to

So instead the next day Spy will do small favors, give extra love, and do little things to make up for his bad job at apologizing

Spy does truly feel terrible about what he did and promises to think more before he speaks

fred + velmas friendship means SO much to me u have no idea like numero uno blowout beach bash is my best friend for what it did for them but its just how the crux of their relationship is how theyre able to relate to each other most - like while that element of relatability between them is obscured or more implicit in some iterations (sdmi for example) i think its SUCH an important facet of their relationship. they are two sides of the same coin u know. they bounce off of each other SO well whether its them putting their heads together or lightheartedly teasing the other. the whats new era + be cool did so much for the velma + fred bestie truthers

AUGHHH its SO hard picking b/w my top 2 so ill say both: cyber chase + the sword and the scoob!!!!! the former i think while couldve benefitted from a larger cast i still love so mucb like it reads like such a love letter to the franchise to me its hard to articulate why i love it so much!!! it just makes me feel warm n sometimes thats all u need. wrt the latter i really really love the character + relationship writing in it!!! it feels so deeply GENUINE to me that i can even brush over one of my least fave aspects of the modern character writing (extreme skeptic velma) bc i have so much fun with it. like man when im watching this movie im kicking my feet througjout purely bc of the characters n their relationships….i dont even care about the mystery hugely though i think the idea of them being in a performance is cool i think it coulda been executed better (and they shouldve been in wales not england smh smh) but tbh whatever. the sword and the scoob is my best friend <333

SO HARD AGAIN BUT gotta be equally whats new, thirteen ghosts + be cool

whats new IS partly bc its the one from my childhood (even if i wasnt actually a scooby fan back then + was actually scared of it lol…can u imagine) but it radiates comfort for me. the theme song alone is to make me just feel purely happy u know….but anyway besides that i love the overall character writing in wsnd!!! its the last show we got with casey kasem + ill always love the snark he brought to shaggys character which is very apparent in this show. daphnes resourcefulness takes center stage which is always just super funny and endearing like girl i dont think thats supposed to work but <333 velma is portrayed as sarcastic but its never meanspirited like its made CLEAR how much she loves her friends. theyre just all so silly and love each other sooo much….

thirteen ghosts i havent actually finished yet BUT despite that its literally already at the top for me lol like firstly i love the premise - its a breakaway from the traditional scooby formula but honestly by the structuring of the episodes u wouldnt think so!!! that different take is executed VERY well imo. the cast of characters r all so very endearing like they r family…. ive always loved the decision to place daphne in a leadership role esp considering what its since engendered. flim flam is SUCH a little guy. hes a witty kid who gives great balance to the cast n his relationships w vincent + scrappy are SO!!! good honestly. vincent is funny like his entire predicament reminds me of thay thing like “found family but its a group of kids who adopt an old guy instead of the other way around” u get it….

• He’s plotting something... he’s always plotting something. You can hear how carefully he chooses his words.

•His voice is soothing but in a twisted way.

• He’d make a good hypnotist. His voice compels you to trust him.

The joke is about super-complicated and over the top story telling all designed to 1) Exhibit how comics and a lot of geek media are in fact nonsensical soap operas with lasers and superpowers that are every bit as stupid and ridiculous as Revenge or General Hospital or whatever (which is one of the reasons I love the show so much btw) and 2) Usually to say something about the various cliche types of plots whether it be about espionage, leagues of superheroes and super villains, macguffin quests, and/or death and coming back from it or whatever. And that's one of the key things that makes this show work.

But thus far... This season? For all the "revelations" it seems like they have more effect on characters that are already dead than anything. I am still not sure whether or not The Monarch is supposed to be Jonas Sr's biological son or not. Really, we just get more reminders that Jonas Sr was just the fucking worst. And while the stuff about his past with Blue Morpho/Vendatta is interesting, I think it really hasn't done enough to affect the Mains beyond providing a easy tie-up for the Blue Morpho. And even so...

Usually when they do this sort of story, it leads to a lot of internal fleshing out of the mains. The clone storylines and how they affected Dean and drove home the comparisons between him and Hank. How it fleshed out Dr Venture and Brock. The OSI "hunt" storyline gave us a lot about Brock and Hunter and Molotov. The Sphinx storyline prompts tons of development for Hunter, Traister, and Brock. Once again we're teased with Monarch and Rusty possibly being brothers but it's no different than the teasing before (except now it is in a way more disturbing context) so it doesn't progress anything more than to suggest stuff we've already known/guessed at but more so.

TBF, the Ong stuff is just so, so much better and more impactful than anything concerning Doc, Dean, Brock, Hatred, Billy, Pete, Dr. MRS. The Monarch, The Monarch, etc. It at least develops Hank's character. And while I love Hank's stuff, Dean has been painfully neglected since season 4 and it is really starting to show. The Ong stuff works so mucb better because of all the stuff it does to develop the Ongs and Hank. And it makes the stuff with the Ventures and the Guild look so much worse in comparison. But at this point I just want the Ongs to get their own spinoff.

While the revelations about Morpho and Venture Sr are good on their own, in the cintezt of the story it's like... I don't need to be reminded that Jonas Sr is a terrible person? If this were season 3 where they really started going intk tearing down Jonas thus would be perfect, but st this point we are already fully aware that Jonas was an abusive PoS. Maybe if this shown to affect Rusty and Monarch more it would work but otherwise? It's not like Monarch is made aware. Which sucks, because yiu could have had Monarch find out, prompting a bunch of repressed memories to pop up of witnessing his father being abused and that being an explanation of his hatred but... eh?

As for Jonas's death... I really never cared that much about how he died, tbh. I could care, if it were handled better but.. nope. I mean, they might have left Jonas and Vendatta around for more than an episode and have their sons know more about the abuse stuff but nah.

I really don't need to know that in addition to everything else Jonas is likely a rapist and a blackmailing monster. I certainly did not need this 'return from the grave" stuff. They've already done that and it mattered more there because for one thing, the "resurrection" took. I also genuinely don't feel like Monarch, Dr Monarch, or Gary really developed much as characters. Yeah, Gary has PTSD but that is nothing new and frany I am still not sure I buy that up until the Morpho saga he had never killed anyone. Mostly because... He totally has. Like, he killed Short Division... a twelve year old. But somehow, killing adult men makes him self reflect instead of, you know, his manslaughter of a child a few years ago?

And as happy as I am to see Orpheus and the Triad back, it almost felt like no more than a cameo. I mean, this is the show that is able to do wonders in just a few minutes with character like Professor Impossible, Action Johnny, and Rose. But there's basically nothing about the Triad that has really mattered.

I also find Rusty's reactions to his Dad very underwhelming.

I will say that the stuff it reveals about Team Venture 1.0 is good, but feels almost superfluous. They were so affected by Morpho's fate apparently and disgusted with Jonas and yet aside from Kano, it didn't amount to much in the end.

Then again, the season isn't over. I hope we get more out of it. I really want more Dean. And more of the leads processing all this. Hopefully this won't be brushed aside.

i just wanna fucking shake some sense into him. i know that it is so insanely hard to get oht of a depressive episode but jesus. there is a fucking limit. its been 3 months and he’s still acting the way he did 2 weeks after the break up. and im never gonna tell him that im angry. i never would do that. but i am. and im only angry because it hurts too muchto be sad and to think about losing him. anger makes me do things. it makes me aggressive when i tell him to take care of himself. whichi suppose is good. and hopefully moving out will help him. i just wish it could go back to normal. i wish thinking about any time before fucking august wouldnt feel like im being stabbed in the heart. it hurts so mucb to think about but those memories are the only reason im still alive. and people dont get that and sometimes i feel like i care too much. i overwhelm people with how quickly i love them. how quick i am to give out pieces of my heart. i scare myself sometimes with how trusting i am. how i care so easily and so strongly. i met grayson and robbie and zac 2 months ago and i only started hanging out with natalie regularly 2 months ago and i already love them all. i cant say that though. i think grayson and maybe natalie would understand, and its mainly them that i feel really at home around. grayson already feels like family. natalie is bright and kind and wonderful and cares so much about strange things and grayson is just. grayson. he lives so much more than anyone else i know. he is the most genuine person i know and its bizarre how quickly i just. accepted the fact that hes a part of my family now. and that family is so strange. its erica and ash saige and i putting on rhinestones in the bathroom just because its new years eve. and its being squished in the backseat driving down the highway to the springs, blaring bad music and destroying bellas speakers but all laughing our asses off. its screaming along to heathers with natalie and zac and laughing and the rest for not being ex emo theater kids. its so weird and messy but its the happiest ive ever been. and theres parts of my heart that are locked in boxes. theyre still bandaged and held together with bandaids and strips of gauze because it hurts too much to remember but theyre still there. theyre sitting in the sunshine hall with leo after the psat and the universal trip with hannah and katherine and sitting with genevieve every other morning. talking to melanie about being poor and feeling like an outsider at stanton and cutting blakes hair and queer prom and wendys with skye and leo. and all of certamen. every minute of certamen is a jagged knife in my heart but its always being stabbed farther in. its never taken out. it just hurts. too much sometimes.
