Hey there! I saw there were entries on the Ivalice raid locations— are there any more interesting Dalmasca tidbits from them that we haven’t gotten before?
Hihi! And there's not really too much new on Dalmasca; they clarify that Noah van Gabranth ordered the aerial bombardment of Rabanastre in response to the liberation of Doma and Ala Mhigo, to thwart the rebellion factions still loyal to the B'nargin dynasty who were inspired to rise up once again. It was a drastic measure, and the few survivors of the city's destruction fled to oases scattered across the desert.
Nothing new on Lessalia, just summary of "the Lexentales and adventurers found it and fought Lucavi."
Ridorana Lighthouse they go a little more into its construction. The Dalmascans operated the main lighthouse part to warn ships away from the cataract, but 30 years of Garlean occupation has seen the lighthouse abandoned. There's water drawn up the tower and then its downward movement back to the sea powers things...somehow, but no one's quite sure how it works.
It was the WoL's party who figured out how to get to the floating islands and upper reaches, to the ruins of Goug. Wind Crystals were utilized to create the landmasses, and arrays of vanes to harness wind power for the city are all over, as opposed to the water-based power below.
For Orbonne and Mullonde, they go a bit more into the legend of Ajora, a hero who claimed to be the son of gods, who led rebellions against the corrupted officials in the later years of the Holy Ydoran Empire. Mullonde was destroyed when Ajora, in desperation for victory, performed a forbidden summoning and the being called forth unleashed devastation. Jenomis cen Lexentale's The Zodiac Brave Story is mentioned, as a telling of those myths and Ramza Beoulve's victory over Ultima, but he admits it's a fiction not in line with facts.
Of The High Seraph herself, the text for her claims she was simply a force of pure ruination at first; it was the terror people held of her shifting to a reverent fear that eventually affected her enough to quicken self-awareness. How much of that is true given what's learned in Pandaemonium later is debatable. Once again, the lorebook leaves a lot open to interpretation given they are "set" in times where the transcribers don't have all the facts, allowing things to change in later plotlines.
And since they're related...
There's a nice picture of Bozja before the disaster, all local brown stone and geometric decorative patterns; both the nation and its capital shared the name, and they detail a little more the devastation it suffered, the crater of the "Firelight Coffin," the previous site of the Lunar Transmitter tower and the center of the city, the crystallization waves covering the rest of the buildings.
The fortress of Alermuc to the north of the city, and the buildings near it, survived the disaster. Alermuc means "Eagle" in the Bozjan tongue, and it was mostly abandoned by Basch van Gabranth. His son Noah, however, used it, and renamed it Castrum Lacus Litore (lakeside) as it also is at the side of Igalj Kelo, the region's largest salt water lake.
Not really anything new about Delubrum Reginae, the old royal palace of the Queens, mostly summarizing the battle to get through the tempered and transformed Gunnhildr's Blades to try to stop the primal Queen.
Zadnor in the northeast was chosen because of the ancient Allagan armaments thought to be buried there. A little about the construct Saunion, whose fusion of a traditional ceruleum engine with a unique crystal reactor to manipulate aether is said to be an example of the IVth's independent research and innovations. The Diablo Armament is thought to be a vessel for a Diablo-class voidsent gifted to Emperor Xande by the Cloud of Darkness back during their partnership, and would have been used against the ancient Bozjans, until the Fourth Umbral Calamity buried the thing.
So it's mostly a clarification and compilation of little bits we got in game, some new ways of presenting it, some placement of geography and where things are in relation to one another. It's mostly summary of the WoL's adventure in the region, though there are new, small tidbits like those outlined above, which is handy for those who haven't done the content nor unearthed every little secret lore tidbit scattered between the instances and zones and NPC lore dumps.

Noisome
When Kiryll received his first letter from Varis, the Echo took it upon itself to bombard him with the prince’s life-story, as told in splintered fragments, only just barely lucid.
Over time, Kiryll’s memory of those events began to degrade, mostly just based on the amount of traumatic events that he witnessed back to back to back to back, especially after the events of The Final Days.
In the lull after the dissolution of the Scions of the Seventh Dawn, Kiryll was re-invited to the Prima Vista for a showing of songs previously banned by the Empire. There was no one left to stop Jenomis, and Kiryll was impressed, as always, by his audacity. It reminded him of his father’s, and he thought that if the two of them ever met, they would have been friends.
Several of the Echoes’ flashbacks went into detail about why Varis had despised Solus, and most notably the way going to the Opera had been used as a tool to demoralize and manipulate him. Before this manipulation occurred, he did enjoy going and singing along, but once behavior patterns started to emerge, Varis began to associate the sounds and ways of the stage with waiting for the next insult to drop.
It had been no secret that Emperor Solus had never gotten along with Mia cen Veron, to whom Varis had agreed to be betrothed to when they were both very young. After sending Varis off to his first campaign, Solus had seen to Mia’s employment by the Lexentales at his behest, to get her out of the palace, and have something to do other than cry pathetically in her room waiting for Varis to return.
Once she got there, the arrangement had actually been very suitable for Mia. It allowed her to meet new people, and see more of the world. She had been given a generous amount of creative freedom, and had been surprisingly well-behaved, not demanding anything of anyone, nor muscling for space or picking fights with the other ladies for on-stage time. Kiryll knew Mia knew she could push for it if she really wanted to, but that behavior would win her few friends, and so she decided to behave. Or at least withhold her feelings when she was upset in front of the troupe.
Her voice itself had been its own song, and it was a huge surprise to most people that Varis not only kept his childhood-made promise to protect her, but genuinely came to truly love her over time. Their engagement had been a punishment of Solus’s design, for Varis who had unwisely intervened on her behalf on his fifth nameday. Solus had wanted her removed from the palace for coughing while he was trying to give a speech, and he was in a mood terrible enough that he was about to call for the execution of the young prince’s six year old playmate. Varis had begged that Mia be spared, and his present on that fifth nameday was that his friend kept her life, but Solus’s curse upon it was that he thought Mia’s sicklyness would lead to an early death, and Varis’s attachment to her would turn into pain at her loss, but she endured for many more years than Solus expected her to.
Under the troupe’s tutelage, Mia’s voice and songwriting skills improved vastly over time. To keep her from becoming too high profile, she was usually disguised rather heavily, but she appeared on stage on the occasion of Varis’s return from his first campaign to surprise him, and she had written him a song. Varis himself was not told about Mia’s new job, or that she was aboard the Prima Vista when Solus sent him there, and was being as visibly miserable as he possibly could in Solus’s specially reserved opera box seats until he heard her voice and all but jumped off the balcony to run toward her, but his cape had snagged on the chair and Solus had stared him down.
Kiryll found himself sitting in that very chair, listening to the song she wrote for Varis as it was performed for a newer and better crowd. The song had been banned for about twenty-five years, since Lady Mia’s passing, originally contextualized as a measure of respect by Emperor Solus, but functionally it served to separate Varis’s life into the part that had Mia in it, and the part that didn’t, so as to make him a better Ascian pawn, and to keep the public’s sympathy from becoming so overblown that he couldn’t get away with bullying him.
The song itself was that of a person deeply missing their beloved, who had been sent off to war. There had been many verses that had been stripped from the original version that had been deemed too risky to perform in front of too large of an Imperial audience, but Jenomis had kept all of Mia’s original writings, so this night’s audience heard the whole song as it was originally intended - a song of love and gratitude for a protector that had been stolen from the singer and put to work to destroy a place half a world away, that neither of them had been particularly enthusiastic about dealing with. Mia wir Galvus very staunchly hated war in general, and being allowed to mix with the Lexentales was a unique opportunity she had to express herself, but it had to wait until now for others to hear, and of course the intensity of that moment brought Kiryll to tears, though it was not something he was alone in.
Nanamo Ul’Namo sniffled next to him in the opera box, and it brought him back down to earth. The singer was dressed in a facsimile of an outfit and hairstyle Lady Mia was known to have around the palace - bombastic stacked blonde curls, and a pale pink dress - the very archetypal image of a princess in a storybook. Kiryll wondered at just how many in the crowd knew just how historically significant this performance really was, but he was grateful to have witnessed it nonetheless, and he made sure to thank Jenomis extra when he had the time to. He knew very well what he was doing, and Kiryll respected it a lot, and made an extra donation when he knew people weren’t looking.

ffxiv return to ivalice raids. ff12 spoilers
given how xenophobic gridania is it should have been an uldahn journalist.
alma's dad touched a sun cyst shard stared hearing voices, and secluded himself with his research to have conversations with himself, lol venat got another one.
the timeline has got me doing math. cid's not that old he's like 32? is he and alma's dad went to school together, how old is Ramza?? he's like mid teens at least.
he is 16. i miss rabanastre.
oh wow that raid was stressful first time. joined an all blue mage party and they only had slots left for tank and healer and i aint healing so i was blue mage tanking that raid.
Tumblr media
irl the ones who actually believe the propoganda are the worst because they are so far removed from reality its impossible to talk to them. christian missionaries come to mind, for the price of life saving supplies you have to join their cult.
i wonder why everyone's last names are being used, "Jenomis cen Lexentale" instead of only Jenomis. ffxiv dialogue tends to identify people only by first name. this was especially noticeable during heavensward given how important house name is to ishgardians that dialogue boxes refereed to characters mostly by first name.
lol bagammin isn't just pure evil in this version
Tumblr media
that makes job stones sooo creepy i love it.
ramza got possessed and his personality improved.
Tumblr media
ok i official hate the thespian. every time he opens his mouth is just gets worse. excellent writing.
Tumblr media
the tragedienne of the other hand gets it. obsessing over ethnic origins or purity leads no where.
ultima the high seraph??? so now you're tying the scholar job to whatever the allegans were doing to the ancient viera temple to the zobiac braves story. uuggggg i man connecting dots.
Tumblr media
this is so funny playing as a viera.
oh hell yeah I'd love the kick the empire out of another region. viva la revolución
Fran!!! alternate universe Fran!!!
Tumblr media
oh ok we're talking actual politics now. i like xiv fran. xii fran did not give a shit about anything not politics not nothing she was just along for the ride.
the racist is having a breakdown in the corner. its character growth.
Tumblr media
"free me from my prison and I will grant you deepest desire" now where have i heard that before. totally not a bad idea /s
so alma got possessed yeah the dueling personalities trope.
i still can't tell if ramza got possessed and thats what made him the asshat we met, the removal of the aetheric interference reverted him to his original personality. or was it just teenage angst i can't tell.
og alma and orran durai fucked. a little weird that they used new alma's character model given thats she's supposed to be like 14.
so the rat scurried off, turned traitor and sold out an ancient and dangerous technological marvel to gabranth and the IVth(?). I was wondering where he went

Lifeless Alley, The Necrohol of Mullonde  [  死都ミュロンド ]
Saint Ajora is the first Zodiac Brave from throughout the eras of Ivalice. He was a Warrior of Light, and according to Jenomis cen Lexentale led a group of twelve heroes, the first Zodiac Braves, in a rebellion against the corrupt Holy Ydoran Empire. Ajora possessed powers beyond mortal men, and his power of prophecy earned him the love of the people. He declared himself the son of the gods. By the time Ajora's battle with the Ydoran Empire had gone on for twenty years, his followers numbered in the tens of thousands. In a single night he won the war and destroyed Mullonde, sinking it beneath the waves. Ajora died in the battle and was elevated to sainthood.

Ashelia Riot goes to find Jenomis, just as she said she would; along the way she runs into Ingvald Bloodhound and orders him to keep an eye on Malla. Linini Mooglesworn: Will the troupe leave Kugane if we ask them to? Rhotfarr Sundyrfyrsyn: I don't think we're givin' them much of a choice! Nivelth Ajuyn: We're in their home, not ours... Sylvan Rain nudges Bull and whispers. Sylvan Rain: But what if we start a fight with them and then lead them away from the ship. Just some soldiers... Rhotfarr Sundyrfyrsyn tightens a fist, eager at the prospect Rhotfarr Sundyrfyrsyn: Much as I'd love to we'd be stranded. Rhotfarr Sundyrfyrsyn looks back to Fawn. Rhotfarr Sundyrfyrsyn: And I can't leave her here alone. Linini Mooglesworn: And then arrested by the Sekiseigumi. Linini Mooglesworn adds with an annoyed grunt. Sylvan Rain rests her hands on the back of her head and sighs, almost pouting, but says nothing. Timid Fawn looks to Bull and makes a peculiar face. Three Garlean soldiers have commandeered a shuttle to the Prima Vista; in the time it takes for Ashelia Riot to find Jenomis cen Lexentale, they have proceeded to break open the bay doors.
Linini Mooglesworn: All right, so they're forcing their way in. Linini Mooglesworn notes, her voice level. Linini Mooglesworn: Then they have reasonable cause to suspect our presence here. Akhutai Urit is glad he wore his sword. Timid Fawn regrets not having her axe..... Rhotfarr Sundyrfyrsyn: They don't even have tickets, awful mean of them to just barge in! Timid Fawn begins shoving and moving crates in front of the door in the hopes to slow them. Linini Mooglesworn is armed only with a dagger at her belt. Hinako Daigo tries hard to concentrate. Akhutai Urit places a hand on the hilt of his sword. Linini Mooglesworn draws the dagger at her belt, which feels too tiny even in her hands. The Garleans take an authoritative stance as they board from the airship's main entrance. There is still a hallway before they make it to the tiring room.
Tumblr media
Nivelth Ajuyn pulls out her book, flipping through the pages until a carbuncle appears. Rhotfarr Sundyrfyrsyn rolls his shoulders, saying nothing. He begins to increase his pace until he's in a full sprint, straight toward the Garlean soldiers. Akhutai Urit draws his blade slowly, the metal of it clicking into place to resemble a katana. He smirks. Akhutai Urit: I do wonder if you fine people have permission to board. Akhutao Urit darts forward with the aim of cutting at least one down. Timid Fawn is just quiet, watching them for the moment with a hateful expression on her face. Rhotfarr Sundyrfyrsyn skids to a stop directly in front of the first soldier, winding up to throw an uppercut to dislodge the helmet from the soldier's head. It hits; the soldier goes down like a sack of bricks. Akhutai Urit moves to cut a deep diagonal slash across one of the soldiers. The momentum of his forward movement carries him past a little ways and he turns, readying his blade for another strike. Unbeknownst to the others, linkpearl turned off, Ashe whispers in the navigation deck. Ashelia Riot: Come on, Zaela. The second soldier is gravely wounded by Akhutai's strike; a shower of blood pools across the Prima Vista's rug. Timid Fawn hesitates, unsure if the guy even wants to come closer at this point... She charges towards him anyways tries to throw a pretty hefty punch towards his face. He, too, staggers and falls to his knees. Akhutai's victim manages to retreat back to the airship, dragging Bull's with him; however, the man Fawn punched is still prone. Rhotfarr Sundyrfyrsyn turns his attention to the prone solider, approaching him and placing a large hand on the top of their helmet, trying to pry it off. Linini Mooglesworn: Well, this will certainly summon a whole contingent of soldiers to the Prima Vista... The helmet comes off easily. Akhutai Urit growls as his victim makes for his escape. The grip on his sword tightens as his eyes flash. Rhotfarr Sundyrfyrsyn throws the helmet aside, it bounces off the wall and lands on the ground. In the same motion, Bull wraps his massive hand around the solider's throat, lifting him as high as he can. He finally speaks Rhotfarr Sundyrfyrsyn: Look me in the eye as I end your life. Rhotfarr Sundyrfyrsyn then begins to squeeze. Timid Fawn bolts over to Bull and tries to pry his hands off the soldier's throat. Timid Fawn: BULL. STOP. Rhotfarr Sundyrfyrsyn continues squeezing, as if in a trance, his eyes wild with rage. Hinako Daigo furrows her brow and pulls her shakujo out from behind her back... Rhotfarr Sundyrfyrsyn finally gets what he's looking for, a sickening 'pop'. The soldier goes limp, and he tosses the body aside. Akhutai Urit marches over to exit where the Garleans were escaping and watches them. He seems to be fighting a battle of sorts with himself, eyes flashing all the while. Timid Fawn aims for the most vulnerable spot on a man... his eyes and nose. She hauls back a fist and punches him squarely in that region-- too late, she punched Bull and now there's a dead man. Nivelth Ajuyn barely spares a glance at the man that Bull just killed, and instead flings out a hand, the tattoos on her arms glowing. With barely a warning, a Bio spell shoots out of her hand, and eats through the man's armor like corrosive acid. Hinako Daigo's mouth goes agape, then she runs at Akhutai and puts her Masakaki between him and the Garleans. Hinako Daigo: That's enough. Not having a weapon near at hand, Eindride drifts behind the group, for the sole purpose of not getting caught in the middle. Nivelth Ajuyn is standing in the hall, her eyes trained on the man and her right arm outstretched as she flings the spell. In her other is a glowing, purple stone, held aloft at her side. The Prima Vista's engines begin to warm up again. The party has one minute left before the ship sets sail, full speed ahead, to Dalmasca. Akhutai Urit drifts his gaze downwards and over to Hinako. He exhales slow and sheaths his sword. Akhutai Urit: Yes. I suppose you are right. Akhutai Urit turns away. Akhutai Urit closes his eyes tight as the feeling of time slowing around him permeates. Rhotfarr Sundyrfyrsyn blinks, seemingly unfazed by the punch. He turns his attention to Fawn, a tinge of a teal glow can be seen emanating from the pouch on his belt. He towers over Fawn, that wild look still in his eyes.
Tumblr media
A minute. A'zaela makes it onto the Prima Vista in under a minute. She barrels in, her eyes wide, blood spattered across her cheek. A’zaela Linh: ASHELIA! A’zaela Linh screams, oblivious to the chaos around her. But Ashe is nowhere to be found, at least not at first; she's deep in the safest part of the Prima Vista with Jenomis and his children.
Timid Fawn stares with a mixture of fear and her own anger. Timid Fawn: Bull! What in the hell's was that?! Timid Fawn fails to move an ilm as he towers over her. Rhotfarr Sundyrfyrsyn says nothing, staring into her eyes...he blinks rapidly, shaking his head. Linini Mooglesworn stands with Hinako and Akhutai, speaking to the Garleans. Linini Mooglesworn: Leave. At once. Linini Mooglesworn tells them. Linini Mooglesworn: Or you will meet the same fate your comrade has. Linini’s voice is strong, but she tries not to look at Bull and what he has done. Hinako Daigo frowns, and grips Masakaki tighter as she looks back to Bull and Fawn. The unconscious soldier that the escapee was carrying looks strangely... stiff, however. Linini Mooglesworn is also nervous about Nive, but tries not to show it. Timid Fawn's brow begins to shift into a scowl. She knows exactly what's happening...Or she’d like to believe so. Timid Fawn: Give me your stone. You won't get it back until we're back home. The soldier turns and flees, slamming the bay door definitively behind him. With that, the Prima Vista takes off. Linini Mooglesworn turns her attention to Bull, Fawn, and Nive once the soldiers are gone. Rhotfarr Sundyrfyrsyn pulls the stone from his pocket, staring into it with a rage he'd never felt before. Timid Fawn: Give. Me. The soulstone. Timid Fawn says firmly. Linini Mooglesworn: Nive, are you well? Nivelth Ajuyn's pupils slowly return to their full roundness, and she yelps and drops the stone from her hand. It glimmers faintly on the ground, before going dark. Nivelth Ajuyn looks at Linini Mooglesworn and panics! Rhotfarr Sundyrfyrsyn begins to quake, letting out a primal scream as he throws the stone to the ground, it bounces along the floor a few times before resting a distance away from himself. Linini Mooglesworn looks at the stone as it clatters to the floor, and she almost moves to grab it, but something about it is so dark, so repulsive to her, that she winces and draws back. She then stares up at Nive with something like fear in her eyes. Nivelth Ajuyn: I ... That's impossible, I shouldn't have -- Linini Mooglesworn actually takes a step back from Nive. Ashelia Riot: Riskbreakers. Ashelia Riot says over the linkpearl. Ashelia Riot: What's everyone's status? Timid Fawn tries so very hard to remain unphased by his reaction. Slowly, she makes her way to the discarded stone and picks it up. She lets out a heavied sigh as she spends her gaze to the rock, Bull and then the corpse. Hinako Daigo is somewhat livid, but she gathers herself enough. She returns her shakujo to her back and walks over to the body - or whatever may be left of it at this point. Nivelth Ajuyn stares at the man she flung her spell at. Even from this distance she can smell the decay and rot that the spell inflicted on the body. Akhutai Urit returns over the linkpearl. Akhutai Urit: Accounted for. But I think you should come here. Hinako Daigo offers a moment of silence. Hinako Daigo winces at the smell of decay brought on by Nive's spell, but she nonetheless appears to be giving a hushed prayer to the fallen man. Linini Mooglesworn tears her eyes away from Nive. Rhotfarr Sundyrfyrsyn remains silent, a bowed head. A balled fist, a single tear falls. Rhotfarr Sundyrfyrsyn: I...I messed up. Ashelia Riot arrives at a hurried walk, then stops as she sees the scene spread out before her - including the two corpses. A'zaela Linh makes her way in proper, eyes landing on the carnage. Hinako Daigo then walks over to the other man killed and does the same, a bereft sigh escaping her lips. Hinako Daigo offers a moment of silence. Ashelia Riot does not ask what happened. She takes in the stone as Timid Fawn picks it up, and Bull's reaction, and Nive's, and somehow pieces it all together. Eindride Stokys lips purse into a thin line, unsure of what there is to be said or done. Linini Mooglesworn is comforted by Ashelia's presence, surprisingly. Linini Mooglesworn: We let one soldier escape. Linini Mooglesworn relaxes her pose before Ashelia Riot. Timid Fawn lets out another weary sigh and shoves Bull's soulstone into her pocket, finally shifting her gaze to everyone else. She has nothing to say. Ashelia Riot isn't certain whether or not letting one escape is better than letting all of them, or none of them, escape. Linini Mooglesworn: We did not learn why they came here to begin with, unfortunately. There were... distractions. Rhotfarr Sundyrfyrsyn drops to his knees, unable to look up and face anyone present. Ashelia Riot: We will have to hide them before there are questions. I have no intentions of concealing this from Jenomis - but the crew do not need to see this. Ashelia Riot: And we will take into account what went wrong. Nivelth Ajuyn walks forward to the man that she killed, staring down at him. Her tail is puffed up to an almost comical degree, if the situation weren't so serious. Ashelia Riot: Fawn. Please deliver that stone to Malla. Hinako Daigo seems lost in thought. Timid Fawn: Will do. Timid Fawn gives a small nod to Ashelia. Eindride Stokys: Those stones are a menance. Eindride Stokys muttered under his breath, more pointedly than his current expression conveyed. Hinako Daigo looks to her side, not at anyone particular. Hinako Daigo: Well... now we see plain what is on the line. Ashelia Riot studies Eindride Stokys very closely, aware that she is so far not making good on her promise to bring him home safely to his brother. A'zaela Linh: I will clean up. No one else need worry about it. I suggest everyone head elsewhere until then. Akhutai Urit: Malla is keeping at least one other stone. I would ask... do we know how safe they are or would be in her keeping? Linini Mooglesworn: I... I'll help. We can stow them in the cargo hold until the next time we land, then we can bury them. Nivelth Ajuyn: ... be careful of this one. The Bio spell should be used up, but ... Timid Fawn gives her attention back to Bull, frowning deeply. Ashelia Riot: Very safe. She has not mentioned the location even to me. Linini Mooglesworn: Safe for her? Perhaps a better idea than what A'zaela was thinking -- to throw them from the ship entirely into the Ruby Sea and forget about them. It's what they deserve for -- ... What a strange thought that was. Linini Mooglesworn: Possessing two stones at once could not be good for anyone. Ashelia Riot: I agree. ...We'll consider alternative methods of storage as our next course of action. Akhutai Urit nods. Ashelia Riot: Everyone had best get some sleep. We'll be arriving in Dalmasca before long. I'll- Ashelia Riot again gets a strange, distant expression on her face. Akhutai Urit: ...We should also endeavor to keep an eye on. Akhutai Urit glances around the room. Akhutai Urit: Anyone who has...or had a stone. Timid Fawn: Sleep? After this...? Timid Fawn mutters to herself. Fawn approaches Bull with caution, trying to lay a hand on his shoulder. Timid Fawn: ...Bull. Nivelth Ajuyn looks at Tai, and nods. Nivelth Ajyun: Please. By all means, keep an eye on me. This shouldn't have happened. Linini Mooglesworn: Do you not possess one, Tai? Rhotfarr Sundyrfyrsyn places his hand on Fawn's, looking up at her. Rhotfarr Sundyrfyrsyn: I...I'm sorry. Ashelia Riot: ...Hinako. Eindride. Come with me. Akhutai Urit: I do. And I am not the only one. But I still would rather keep mine instead of putting them all in the same place. At least until we know of a safe way to deal with them. Eindride Stokys tilts his head and lets out a held-in breath, but does as he's told. Hinako Daigo: ...Grand steward. Hinako Daigo says in affirmation, after turning toward Ashelia. Timid Fawn's brow wilts with another mixture of feelings. She whispers. Timid Fawn: There's nothing you can do about it now. Come on, stand up. I'm not mad at you. Rhotfarr Sundyrfyrsyn sighs, shaking his head as he gets to his feet. Linini Mooglesworn stares at Ashe. Linini Mooglesworn: What is wrong? Ashelia Riot leads Eindride and Hina through the halls, back to the medical bay, and her heart sinks in her throat as she finds the door left ajar. Rhotfarr Sundyrfyrsyn places a hand on Fawn's shoulder. Rhotfarr Sundyrfyrsyn: Thank you… Rhotfarr Sundyrfyrsyn can't find it in himself to look her in the eye. Ashelia Riot tears aside the chirurgeon's curtain and sees Grissom - his head separated from his macabre body, his throat slit, blood pooling across the white room. Hinako Daigo is taken aback.

About the Character - Ashe of Dalmasca
NAME OF YOUR CHARACTER:
Ashe of Dalmasca (Princess* Ashla Manasse)
ALIAS OF YOUR CHARACTER:
Ashe, Phoenix (Little Phoenix), the Princess of the Heart, the Lioness Rampant
ONE PICTURE YOU LIKE BEST OF YOUR CHARACTER’S FC:
Dark Embers (Balmung)
Tumblr media
While I am updating all of the graphics for the FC, I still really love how the original logo (which is above, once you ditch the Year Five! subtitle) turned out for the FC. The new one is in progress, as I lost all of my layer styles and PSDs during the issues with my PC.
TWO HEADCANONS YOU HAVE FOR YOUR CHARACTER:
[ Twinthings ]
Most twins have some sort of innate bond, particularly monozygotic and bi-monozygotic (there’s a third, yet unnamed type of twin science is looking into, so I gave it a name, your welcome science), but the bond shared between Ashe and Rel exists on a deep and complex aetheric level. The existence of such has manifested several times over the course of the Manasse Twins lives.
While minor changes to her aetheric configuration, such as colouration changes or ‘hiding’ her freckles, don’t affect her twin all that much, major changes to Ashe’s aetheric configuration - like longer-term aetheric dispersal - do have an impact on Rel.
Despite being in their 40s, Rel looks remarkably young, though not quite as young as Ashe does. He’s only just starting to get his first grey hairs, and there aren’t many of them. This discrepancy stems from the handful of times that Ashe's aether has shattered, for a total of somewhere around 7 - 10 years of ‘missing’ time; while she looks barely 30, Rel looks to be in his mid-30s or so.
Major alterations to their forms brought about by things like injury also reflect from one twin to the other, to varying degrees. While Rel’s hands were nearly destroyed during the battle at Nalbina Fortress, his sister frequently has arthritis-like symptoms in her hands, particularly within the palms, which is where most of the damage to Rel’s hands occurred. And while his scar has faded quite a bit more than hers, the scar across the bridge of Ashe’s nose is from an injury her brother suffered not long after Nalbina.
There’s quite a number of additional scientific and anecdotal things involving twins that I’ve as headcanons for the Manasse Twins, but the above is the most modified version of such.
[ Aetherology as Particle Physics Science ]
As much as people baulk upon the initial hearing of this phrase, the game has plenty to support the idea that a lot of aetherology has roots in quantum and particle physics. The most notable being the way the aetheryte systems and other forms of teleportation are described/how they work.
The specifics of Ashe’s Echo gift are all based on this concept, built on the same sort of idea as the Sphere Rote system of Mage: the Ascension. The applications of this are only limited by the person’s imagination and their ability to think on their feet - much like on the fly Rote casting in MtA, which I got pretty good at (I also dodged Paradox like a champ, but that’s for another post).
However, much like MtA’s Sphere system, there are a number of things that can limit how much or how fantastical Ashe’s use of this can be. While it’s not quite like the Paradox system, there’s a similar underlying concept. There’s checks and balances on this, even though they weren’t all that clear near the beginning of playing Ashe, due to having to frequently make the Storyteller call of removing the limiters to deal with certain RP situations.
Underpinning all of this is Ashe’s core Echo gift - the ability to ‘see’ aether in its rawest forms. Much like Neo in the Matrix, the minutiae structure of aether is plain to her, though how it’s actually seen is more like the colour/shade overlays of the Miraluka sight in KotOR.
THREE THINGS THAT YOUR CHARACTER LIKES DOING IN THEIR FREE TIME:
Cooking - While she’s always been a capable enough cook, after spending time learning the more granular layers of the art from Elric, the Roegadyn chef employed by the Knight-Captain, cooking has become something that is relaxing, even though she’s constantly challenging her skill level with new styles, techniques, and recipes.
Writing - Although she’s thus far only published translated works since arriving in Eorzea, Ashe writes frequently. Sometimes it’s just updating her journal (though I’m shite at that since a couple of months after starting the character), or working on writing the modern history of the Kingdom, or working on the occasional piece of fiction. Aside from long-form novella writing, she’s got some skill with poetry and prose and can write song lyrics, when such a fancy strikes her.
Dancing - Most make the mistake of thinking that Ashe learned how to dance due to her family’s station prior to the invasion, however, they would be mistaken. Ashe loves dancing, having learned and taught herself myriad of different styles and techniques, as well as creating something of a fusion style with all she knows. Though she doesn’t get to dance often, she does really enjoy such.
SEVEN PEOPLE THAT YOUR CHARACTER LOVES/LIKES/RESPECTS**:
Tumblr media
[ I. Her Knight ]
{ @thelionofdalmasca }
There will always be a soft spot in Ashe’s heart for the squire that had been assigned to guard her when she was a child. No matter the trouble she got up to, no matter how well hidden she was, he’d always find her, being sure to make her smile and laugh before guiding her home.
Tumblr media
[ I. The Lion of Dalmasca ]
{ @thelionofdalmasca }
Despite the passing of decades, the man the squire became ultimately didn’t fail in keeping the promise he made to her when they were but children - that he would always find her. Though the passage of time has greatly changed him, and though their paths have since parted, she’ll always care about him, and always - though sometimes begrudgingly - respect him.
Tumblr media
[ II. Her Starlight ]
{ @jurien-ashur }
If someone had told her how important he’d become, how integral a part of her life he’d be, the day she met Jurien, she would have laughed and brushed their words aside.
Perhaps it’s as much of a surprise to her as it is to everyone else that she and Jurien have become something far more than anyone ever imagined. After everything that had come to pass between herself and her Knight, the last thing Ashe was looking for was something that lay between philia, ludus, and pragma***.
Despite the fact their marriage was something of an accident, she can’t bring herself to take off the ring from their eternal bonding ceremony; thus far, he’s given her no reason to want to, and she’s hoping he never will.
Tumblr media
[ III. The Doctor ]
The level-headed nature of this Raen, along with his penchant for tea and the higher sciences, led to Ashe coming to respect and trust Doctor Briggs in short order after their first meeting. Before she began her rapid trips between Dalmasca and Eorzea, she considered him something akin to her royal physician, even though she knew he’d never enjoy such an unforgiving position amid the court.
Tumblr media
[ IV. The Violet Mage ]
{ @gal-the-violet }
Despite initial uneasiness between the two, Ashe developed a healthy respect for Galtara during her few moons with the Desert Sapphire Company. The woman’s passion for knowledge, both practical and theoretical, gave the Mage something of a foot in the door with Ashe. Her capability as a combatant, as well as her quiet method of leadership, also garnered respect from the Dalmascan.
Tumblr media
[ V. The Axe-Maiden ]
{ @vayduh }
While there is still much Ashe doesn’t know about J’veda, what she has seen from the Seeker has earned the woman an odd sort of respect from Ashe, one that’s quite unique to Veda.
The warrior’s confidence with her feelings, stating her mind, and particularly her body and sensuality - while sometimes overwhelming - creates something of longing respect for the Seeker. Ashe would very much so like to be as carefree and confident about such things, but always feels the grip of noblesse oblige and the expectations of her behaviour it places upon her.
Tumblr media
[ VI. The Gilded Lily ]
{ @mai-takeda }
Although they’ve not interacted all that often, soft and quiet respect has been growing for the Raen. While initially, she seemed far too naive and far too shy, Ashe has realised there’s more to Mai than she initially expected, finding her wide-eyed selflessness to be incredibly endearing.
Tumblr media
[ VII. The Playwrite ]
{ Return to Ivalice NPC }
Despite the fact that he’s a Garlean pureblood, she has nothing but respect and admiration for Jenomis cen Lexentale. His love for her kingdom and the kingdom that came before it, coupled with his passionate sacrifices have deeply touched Ashe, and given her hope for the Garlean people.
With her understanding of auracite, knowledge of the Lucavi, and the geography of Dalmasca, Ashe became something of a fixture within the group attempting to prove the writings passed down within the Lexentale’s family correct. The journey from a return to Rabanastre, to the Lighthouse of Ridorana, and finally deep within the Golmore Jungle to discover the strangely familiar Orbonne Monastery has been something she’s quite thankful to have experienced.
For some time, she’s been working on both a written adaptation of Lexentale’s precious artefact known as the Durai Papers and an adaptation of the play he’s created from the Zodiac Braves myth that’s more palatable to foreigners with no background to the story - primarily, Eorzeans.
TWO THINGS YOUR CHARACTER REGRETS:
Her time as a conscript within the Garlean Military.
Revealing her childhood love to the person whom it was for.
A PHOBIA YOUR CHARACTER HAS:
Arachniphobia****
Tagged by @jurien-ashur (This was sooooo long! And I crashed like six times and lost most of my work on it. YOU HAD BETTER APPRECIATE MY FINISHING THIS.)
Tagging: Everyone in the list of seven people are tagged for this, along with @snow-and-sea, @the-ruby-rogue (WHY YOU CHANGE YOUR NAME ON ME, I WAS SO CONFUSED), @kazexvoss, @arcanakiller, @galla-xiv, @rinrin-rinalys, @aelathetrashcan, @catdette, @velarishiku, @thewitchofthechocoboforest, @zhauric, @garlean-nonsense, @hei-lowell, and anyone else who’s wanting to torture themselves for a few hours!
ANNOTATIONS
* - I made the mistake of not hauling down my line of succession information off my SCA document backup before working out the Manasse family’s place in the nobility and lineages. As it turns out, it all put Ashe into the line of succession, and given the death toll in Dalmasca, she’s now fairly near the top of such. Until there are more clarifications on the leader of Lente’s Tears, and/or perhaps the B’nargin twins’ life before the Garlean invasion, it leaves her within the top 5.
I considered retconning it but got encouragement to keep it, and so I did. It should be noted, that unless something is really super wacky with the Dalmascan story that’s unfolding, Ashe is so not going to become the rule of Dalmasca - and even then, I’d feel awkward as hell and probably not. XD
** - Choosing just seven people was rough because there’s more than that many people that Ashe gets along with, or has respect for while saving space for some of the NPCs she deals with. In the end, I picked just one NPC, even though there are three or four who fit the bill.
Please don’t feel like your character isn’t important to Ashe if they’re not mentioned in this list. All of Ashe’s friends and colleagues are important and cherished by her - and by me.
*** - Anyone who knows me has heard me bitch about how terrible a language English is, in so much as the fact that we have words that have myriad and varying meanings, which leads to far more confusion than necessary. Often, when expressing some sort of ‘love’, I will revert to the 7 Loves created by the ancient Greeks. Because while they still don’t cover the various different types and levels of love, they do a hell of a lot better job of it than English could ever hope to.
Also, as English is nigh a requirement in this world, I prefer the Queen’s English. Deal with it.
**** - Most of my characters have this phobia because my RL arachniphobia is so bad, I can’t even fake that it doesn’t exist for role play fun times.

Under the Stars
Tumblr media
They had gone for a walk along the outside ramparts, at the top of the airship's amphitheater. They had only a few more bells before their scheduled departure to Dalmasca, but Ashe had yet to explore this part of the ship - and after spending nearly a full day cooped up indoors, she had needed the air. They had drifted somewhat from the Kugane horizon, and a cloudless sky full of stars hung over the sea. The breathtaking sight might have reminded her of being back in Eorzea, had the constellations not been unfamiliar.
"So you married Gerald," said Malla. Her smile, one of the first Ashe had seen from her, bore no hint of teasing. "Do you remember-"
"What I said to Boris as a little girl? I do." She sighed. "Boris was killed shortly after they settled in Ul'dah."
Malla frowned. "I'm sorry to hear that."
"He fell in with Monetarists, started owing money, and tried to gamble his way out. But Mondeberta's done well for herself - she's a guild alchemist."
"And your parents-"
"I'm sorry, Alma. I don't want to speak of them now."
The words had come out harsher than she'd intended, but aside from a brief furrowing of her brow, Malla showed little affront. The expression softened after no more than a moment. "I understand." She held off only for a moment; the night wind blew back her hood to reveal her severe face. "Gods know we have a host of other things to focus on. Which reminds me - if you're surveying in Rabanastre, you'll need new gear."
She cursed; somehow, in all of the preparations, she had forgotten that she would not be traipsing through the desert in her long black leather coat. Some days it truly struck her how far removed she was from the Corpse Brigade lieutenant she had been not so very long ago.
"I have a jacket that should fit you," Malla continued. "It's Dalmascan - so it's made for the sun and sand, and it should attract less suspicion."
"Thank you."
"As far as the survey goes, I would appreciate any detailed notes you can take. There's been limited intel from the 9th in recent weeks, and-"
Malla cut off the rest of her own sentence with a quiet clearing of her throat. Sure enough, there came from behind them a set of footsteps, and a harsh voiced called out.
"What are you doing out here?"
Malla slowly rolled her eyes before turning to acknowledge the speaker - a teenage boy whose only detail out of place was a single lock of unruly blond hair. He glared at them both, one hand on his hip; though his expression might have been more intimidating if he were several fulms taller.
"You must be Ramza," said Ashe. She had met with the boy's father for much of that morning, and she had heard mention of him enough throughout the ship. Every snide comment now made some sort of sense. "Ashelia Riot, Grand Steward of the-"
"The Riskbreakers, yes. A pity I don't care."
Ashe had met many youths throughout her life with varying understanding and empathy for the Riskbreakers, yet this was her first known encounter with an Ilsabardian boy. Before she could retort, however, Ramza again addressed Malla. "It's time to go belowdecks; we're due for departure soon. You know the rules."
"That I do," Malla replied. "Apologies to the crew. We'll return shortly."
Again she had to bite the inside of her cheek to keep from lashing out at the injustice of her aunt speaking with such deference to a Garlean shitestain, but neither would she jeopardize the company's budding alliance with Jenomis cen Lexentale.
Before Ramza could strut off in full, he said, "Oh, and you've another visitor - some man in leather. Go find him; he's scowling at the crew and Alma looks like she's seen a ghost."

i first thought it was Nabirales when we first heard Solus's voice. But then i was like how is that possible??!
HARD SAME
MANY PEOPLE WILL OWE ME MONEY IF TRUE
but it’s unlikely to be the case. they wouldn’t take away the one kill we actually got away cleanly with ourselves (lahaboo and iggy were kinda a mess). there are certainly some parallels (see also: nabriales’ epithet as ‘the majestic,’ a word with certain connotations and ALSO appearing in the name of jenomis cen lexentale’s theatre company, which counted solus as its patron) but it’s a long, long shot.
it has not stopped me from projecting all my thwarted desires for solus on a more accessible target--or at least one we’re likely to know all there is to know about.

This scene brought forth a couple more reveals, some with far-reaching implications. Ramza was absent during your search for Ba’Gamnan because he took it upon himself to assess the theory he kept to himself before your departure, and he has found that that theory was correct. The Ridorana Lighthouse was once known as the Clockwork City of Goug - an ancient place known for its denizens’ adept workings of machinery. The pieces fit: according to the Durai Papers, Goug once housed all sorts of technological marvels but was lost after an explosion prompted an evacuation; that explosion, Jenomis hypothesizes, might ultimately have led to the creation of the gaping cataract in the middle of the Valnard Sea.
More importantly, however, Goug is also thought to be the homeland of many modern-day Garleans - which may help explain Garleans’ skill with machinery even before the discoveries of Allagan relics.
(In a way, the Goug reveal brings the moogles’ presence full-circle: in Tactics Advance 2, Goug in Ivalice is shown to have been a city created by tech-savvy moogles.)
Further musings are forestalled as Bwagi asks Alma about the crystal pendant she wears, claiming that Ba’Gamnan wore one almost exactly like it. Alma says only that the pendant belonged to her late mother, and that is enough for Ramza to round on Bwagi in anger.
I remember this scene, like the Nalbina reveal, being pretty divisive for those who aren't into Ivalice. Frustrations stemmed from the focus on characters who seem more focused on seemingly insignificant details of Goug and the pendant instead of the much more crucial events of a fallen hero being overtaken and transformed by an all-powerful crystal. It's admittedly difficult to sympathize with these people or care about anything they have to say when they're neither concerned with Ba'Gamnan's fate nor willing to acknowledge your contributions to their life’s work.
That, I think, is very much the point. This scene doubles down - hard - on a lot of the worst traits we’ve seen from both Ramza bas Lexentale and Jenomis cen Lexentale thus far. Ramza chooses to dismiss his sister’s voice of reason, dial up his know-it-all behaviors, and again refer to the Bangaa with slurs and contempt. Jenomis is so focused on his family’s “quest” for Ivalice that he encourages his son’s horrific behavior until, well, he doesn’t - but his rebuke only barely addresses Ramza’s actions. He only reminds his son that their purpose as Lexentales is "to prove the existence of Ivalice and clear our family's name" - not to be decent people or to help those in need, as Alma seems intent on doing.
It's off-putting to see this kind of behavior from characters we’re supposed to be helping, and it may be overkill to show such heavy-handed selfishness from both Ramza and Jenomis... yet unlike Tactics or XII, Return to Ivalice doesn’t have the luxury of subtle and gradual plot developments, or of making the player question characters’ motives over the course of several chapters and story arcs. Keeping that in mind, I’m glad that the plot of Return to Ivalice isn’t sitting well with some - because it paves the way for the kinds of dramatic and meaningful growth that has been at the core of Ivalice’s stories from the beginning, albeit using different storytelling devices.
