Maundy Thursday
Christians mark Maundy Thursday, which commemorates the Last Supper, every year on the Thursday before Easter, March 28.  It’s also know as Holy Thursday, Covenant Thursday, and the Thursday of Mysteries in various traditions.
Maundy refers to the foot-washing Jesus provided the apostles prior to the Last Supper. Christians around the world, especially Catholics, mark the day with a special mass and prayers.
The word “Maundy” itself comes from an Anglo-French word derived from the Latin “mandatum,” which means “commandment.”
Maundy Thursday timeline
2019
Honoring Notre Dame
UK Prime Minister Theresa May announced bells will ring at cathedrals across England on Maundy Thursday. It's a show of support for France following the devastating Notre Dame fire.
1979
The Chrism
The Book of Common Prayer was published in Britain calling for the Chrism Mass to be consecrated by Anglican Bishops.
1945
The bombing of Manila
Maundy Thursday in the Philippines commemorates the seven churches that were destroyed when Manila was bombed in 1945.
1822
Maundy coins
In the United Kingdom, the Church of England created Maundy Coins, handed to parishioners to mark Maundy Thursday. The coins replaced the real currency that was previously given to parishioners as charity.
How to Observe Maundy Thursday
Go to church: Christian churches celebrate with a special mass and prayers. Even if you're not a Christian or a believer, you can learn a lot about one of the more important days on the Christian calendar by visiting a local Christian church.
Learn the story: Holy Wednesday and Maundy Thursday represent the beginning of the transformational story of the death and resurrection of Jesus. We're all better off if we deepen our understanding of the faith traditions of others. Pick up a book or watch a documentary that highlights the importance of Maundy Thursday within Christianity.
Spend the day being humble: Maundy Thursday is a great opportunity to remind ourselves of the importance of humility. Regardless of your own faith traditions, use Maundy Thursday to check yourself throughout the day for signs that you could always use a bit more humility in your life.
Maundy Thursday Around The World
Czech Republic and Slovakia: Maundy Thursday in local parlance translates to Green Thursday, when meals are prepared primarily from fresh, green vegetables.
Kerala State, India: Unleavened Pehasa bread is made in homes and consumed with coconut milk.
Sweden: Maundy Thursday is connected to old folklore as the day of the witches. Similar to Halloween, children dress up as witches and go door-to-door collecting coins or candy.
Bulgaria: Bulgarians color Easter eggs and clean their houses in preparation for what they call Crucifixion Friday.
Luxembourg: Church bells fall silent on Maundy Thursday until Easter, marking a symbolic migration to Rome for confession.
Why Maundy Thursday is Important
Strong traditions: Holy Week is one of the more important celebrations on the Christian Calendar, and Maundy Thursday is a key day of the week. Christian traditions from around the globe, from Armenia to Africa to Germany, mark the day with special masses and prayers.
It celebrates humility: The washing of the disciples' feet by Jesus was intended to be a sign of humility. Jesus was humbling himself before his own servants as a last gesture before knowing he was to be crucified. Masses on this day now highlight the importance of humility in the Christian faith.
It ties Christian denominations together: Christian faiths celebrate Maundy Thursday throughout the world. Part of its tradition, which carries into Good Friday, is for observers to visit 14 different Christian churches, one for each station of the cross. It unifies the Christian church regardless of region or country.

Spain 2023
8/7/23
What an amazing day! Set off from Lugo after breakfast for 1 hour drive to Santiago de Compostela - one of the great pilgrimage sites in the world and the 3rd most revered Christian site after Jerusalem and the Vatican in Rome. The cathedral itself was truly spectacular with a dazzling golden altar and huge decorated columns rising high to the ceiling. It is reputed to be the burial place of St James and catholics queue for ages just to be able to touch the base of his statue’s cloak. As Methodists we didn’t see the point.
It was also fascinating to see many of the pilgrims that had walked from various places to the cathedral - we had passed hundreds in the car on the way. Most do one of the shorter walks - still over 100kms- but some do the whole journey from the Pyrenees, over 800 kms. I can confirm that 2785 pilgrims arrived today!!
After the visit, which was free by the way, we enjoyed lunch in one of the many restaurants surrounding the cathedral and then strolled around the narrow streets enjoying the ambiance and an ice cream!
I know that Christine and John enjoyed their visit here and I’d thoroughly recommend it to anyone else!

Kansas City Royals-Minnesota Twins Series Preview
5.27.24- Alec Marsh RHP (4-1) 2.72 ERA Vs. Joe Ryan RHP (3-3) 3.15 ERA
5.28.24-Cole Ragans LHP (4-3) 3.34 ERA Vs. Simeon Woods Richardson RHP (1-0) 2.57 ERA
5.29.24-Seth Lugo RHP (8-1) 1.74 ERA Vs. Bailey Ober RHP (5-2) 4.33 ERA
5.30.24-Brady Singer RHP (4-2) 2.63 ERA Vs. Chris Paddack RHP (4-2) 4.39 ERA
The Royals At A Glance- The Royals have been one of the biggest surprises in baseball so far. They just had an eight-game winning streak snapepd and are (34-20). The Royals sit just 2.5 games behind the Indians for first place in the American League Central. Salvador Perez is having a solid season with a .325 average, nine homers, and thirty-nine RBI. Bobby Witt Jr. continues to be a solid young face with nine homers, thirty-six RBI, and sixteen stole bases. Vinnie Pasquantino has been slumping a bit with a .225 average and just five homers. The Royals starting rotation owns a 2.97 ERA, which is third-best in the big leagues. Seth Lugo has been incredible with just a 1.74 ERA and eight wins. Brady Singer has finally found his form and Alec Marsh has been good as well. The bullpen hasn't been the greatest with a 3.96 ERA, which is eighteenth-best in baseball. James McArthur has saved eleven games with a 3.80 ERA. Will Smith has had a rough start to the season with a 7.16 ERA in 16 1/3 innings. John Schreiber has been a good arm with just five runs allowed over 23 1/3 innings of work.
The Twins At A Glance- The Twins had a four-game winning streak halted by the Texas Rangers on Sunday. They continue the homestand with four games against a surprising Royals team. Alex Kirilloff has been on fire late with a .364 average, two homers and four RBI over his past four games. Carlos Correa is hitting .333 over the past week. Eddie Julien has been ice cold with one hit in his last twenty-seven at-bats. Royce Lewis is working his way back on a rehab assignment with the Saints and the team will have an interesting roster decision to make. Jose Miranda is hitting and Eddie Julien isn't. The starting pitching had been going better until Pablo Lopez rough outing on Sunday. Josh Staumont has thrown 7 1/3 shutout innings since his call-up. He'll play his former team this weekend.
What To Watch For- The Twins took two of three from the Royals to open the season. The Twins were (6-1) against the Royals at Target Field last year. Alec Marsh threw five innings and allowed three runs in his lone start against the Twins. Joe Ryan is (5-0) with a 1.52 ERA in seven starts against the Royals. Cole Ragans has allowed three runs over ten innings against the Twins. Simeon Woods Richardson has never faced the Royals. Seth Lugo has a 1.80 career ERA in twenty innings versus the Twins. Bailey Ober has a 7.24 ERA in eight games against the Royals and has his worst career start on March 31st against them. Brady Singer is (3-6) with a 5.18 ERA in twelve starts against the Twins. Byron Buxton and Max Kepler each have two homers off Singer in their careers. Chris Paddack gave up two runs over five innings in his lone start against the Royals. This is a key early-season series against teams vying for the top spot in the division.

Biden Turbocharges Clean Energy in Underserved Communities
Tumblr media
Major developments aimed at tackling energy inequality are happening. The Biden administration is significantly boosting incentives and resources to drive clean energy deployment in underserved communities across America. The U.S. Department of the Treasury and Internal Revenue Service announced today that applications will open on May 28 for the second year of the Low-Income Communities Bonus Credit Program - a key provision of President Biden's Inflation Reduction Act providing up to a 20 percentage point tax credit boost for solar and wind projects located in low-income areas.   Deputy Treasury Secretary Wally Adeyemo said: "This groundbreaking incentive created by President Biden's Inflation Reduction Act is creating jobs and opportunity while lowering energy costs for communities that were long underinvested in." "In the program's first year, we saw sky-high demand for these clean energy investments."
Boosting Capacity and Equity Provisions
Program Enhancements for 2024: Over 2.1 gigawatts of total capacity available, up from 1.8 GW in 2023 325 additional megawatts rolling over from very high first-year demand Expanded eligibility criteria and subcategories for equitable distribution At least 50% of capacity reserved for projects meeting additional criteria   Targeting Low-Income Residential Areas The program allocates federal tax credits to qualifying solar and wind facilities under 5 megawatts located in low-income residential areas, on tribal lands, or providing direct economic benefits to lower-income households. It aims to lower energy burdens while catalyzing private investment in historically underserved communities.   Ensuring Investments Reach Most In Need This second program year also incorporates key enhancements based on lessons learned in 2023. Most notably, at least half of the available credits in each category are now reserved for projects meeting additional socioeconomic and community benefit criteria beyond just geographic location. "The program's impact will grow even more in its second year thanks to the increased available capacity and new provisions to ensure investments reach the communities most in need of affordable clean power," said Senior White House Climate Advisor John Podesta.
Turbocharging Clean Energy Investment
This incentive structure has already turbocharged private capital flowing into community solar projects, rooftop installations, microgrids and more across America's urban cores and rural towns. According to a recent Princeton study, low-income areas received over 5 times more proposed solar investments in 2023 compared to 2022 baselines.   Concerns Over Equity Remain However, some environmental justice advocates argue the program's impact has been inequitably distributed so far, with wealthier communities capturing a disproportionate share of the tax credits. The new 50% set-aside aims to address those concerns. "While a step in the right direction, we need to see much more from this administration in terms of actually delivering affordable clean energy to the frontline communities who have disproportionately borne the brunt of fossil fuel pollution for decades," said Juan Jhones-Lugo, Energy Justice Director at The Oak Collective.   Helping Families Navigate Incentives The Treasury Department will host a public webinar on May 16 providing additional details and guidance ahead of the May 28 application opening date. All submissions within the first 30 days will be treated equally to ensure fair access. But beyond the tax credits themselves, the Biden administration is deploying a multi-pronged strategy to ease clean energy access and lower costs for American families - especially in underserved communities.   Multi-Faceted Approach Key Administration Clean Energy Cost-Saving Initiatives: $20 billion Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund to finance community lending State home energy rebate programs launching this summer, worth up to $8,000 per household Expanded tax credits of 30% for residential solar, heat pumps, efficiency upgrades Nonprofit coalition campaigns for consumer education and awareness Renewed focus on bridging financing gaps for low and middle-income families   Driving Affordability and Sustainability "We're using every tool available to help families across America save money by tapping into affordable clean energy," Adeyemo stated. "From generous tax credits to innovative financing, this is a top priority for the Biden economic agenda."   As climate impacts escalate and energy costs remain volatile, the administration is betting its "whole-of-government" push can finally unleash clean energy's promise of lower utility bills, efficiency gains, and greener communities from coast to coast. Access the latest program details, state-by-state information on incentives, and guidance for applicants at www.irs.gov/lowincomecredit.   Sources: THX News, The US Treasury & The White House. Tangerine Flavour presenta su gira 2024
Tumblr media
