Kavaledurga Fort or Agumbe Fort🏰 Kavaledurga is a hidden beauty in the Western Ghats. The place is best known for its fort which was built in the 9th century. Deep in the belly of the jungle and surrounded by rolling hills, the fort would have provided an excellent natural defense to its occupants and a major challenge to an aggressor. #IncredibleIndia #Heritage "It was raining heavily reaching the entrance of Kavaledurga in Shimoga. It made the sight of this myterious looking snake shrine adjacent to a dark turquoise lake even more enchanting", spectacular photo. Couldn’t resist reposting the pic and it’s background. The Nagadevathe, or the 4 ft tall seven-hooded snake shrine is believed to have been built to guard the palace treasures of the fort at Kavaledurga. This fort was the last stronghold of the kings of Keladi dynasty, who were feudatory rulers of the Vijayanagar empire.
