Transcript below:
Emely, walking outside: Reila what's going on out here--oh my god! Kiara?!
Kiara: Please, both of you, calm down. Like I said, I'm sorry for not calling first and--
Emely, angry: And for leaving a baby on our front porch?
Kiara: I think we should sit and talk about this. I know what I did was wrong, but I want to explain why. I want...you to understand my decision.
Reila: There's really nothing to talk about. You abandoned Luca and we did what you asked of us, we took him in.
Emely: We're going to adopt him Kiara.
Kiara, upset: That's why I'm here! I'm not letting you take my son! I didn't work this hard to clean up my life for you to take my reason for doing it away from me. I won't let you!
Reila, enraged and shouting: Your son?! No, he's our son! You gave up your right to be in his life when you left him on our front porch! We've been raising him since he was an infant, Kiara.
Emely, lowering her voice: Okay, okay. Let's quiet down so we don't scare Luca.
Reila: You're not taking him from us. And you're definitely not seeing him today.
Kiara, sighing: Then I guess I'll see you in court. I wanted to avoid all this, I really did.
Meanwhile...
*shouting and arguing*
Luca: Mama...?

Liam and Riley had checked on Lucas, he was fast asleep- Riley placed a kiss on his forehead and thanked the nanny for looking after him. After agreeing to stay with Liam, he had contacted Bastien to arrange a cot to be moved into his quarters.
Walking back into the ballroom holding hands, Liam gave Riley a kiss on the cheek. I’ll see you shortly- he whispered, a blush creeped up on her cheek. Maxwell and Drake walked up to Riley- the commoner passed her a drink.
“I’ve got you a vodka, I don’t know if you like it. But it looks like you need an energy boost. Or you could have a whiskey- that also boosts energy.” Riley looked bewildered at him, wondering if he was trying to get her drunk.
“Don’t look at me like that. Your perfect hair has become a bit messy.” Maxwell burst out laughing.
“It was windy outside Drake.” She lied, not knowing what they had heard.
“Oh Princess, didn’t Leo teach you not to lie. We heard you and the Prince.”
“Fuck you Drake.”
“Sorry baby, but I’m not your type. I’m not a Prince remember.” He winked at her, before looking at Liam. Following his gaze, Liam was caught up in a conversation with Penelope- but he kept looking at Riley.
“I think it’s time for a drinking game. I’ll gather everyone together.”
******
“So I think we should play ‘never have I ever’ or spin the bottle.” Maxwell decided. Everyone looked concerned at how excited he was. Liam joined the group- he didn’t want to be over affectionate with Riley in front of Olivia, Kiara, Penelope and Hana.
“Drake and Riley- the bottle has landed on you two.” Both their eyes widened, both giving each other the same look- reassurance of needing to escape this situation.
“Beaumont I never confirmed that I was playing. I’m not kissing her.” He looked at Liam, he didn’t want to betray his friend even if it was a game.
“Let’s play another game Max.” Riley smiled at Drake and Liam trying to avoid the situation.
“No. A rule is a rule. I’ve had to kiss Olivia. Well I had to force it.”
“Yes and we are never talking about it again! Go on Walker just kiss her and get it over and done with then we can play a decent game.” Liam shook his head, he knew he could trust Drake and after all it was only a game. Just do it, then it’ll shut Maxwell and Liv up- Liam whispered to his best friend.
Drake pulled Riley towards him, cupping her cheeks- he gave her a quick soft kiss. Before Madeleine encouraged them to do it more than a quick peck. Breaking the kiss, Riley felt as if she had cheated on Liam- even though they technically weren’t in a relationship. She didn’t feel anything with the kiss, he wasn’t Liam. Drake excused himself from the group to get a round of drinks. Needing to think of something else, that kiss was one of the best he had- but he wouldn’t betray his friend who had helped him throughout his life.
Playing ‘Never have I ever’ made everyone become intoxicated very quickly. It was Penelope’s turn, she was already slurring- so the group all dread what sort of question she would provide them with.
“Never... have ...I ever had a tattoo.” Maxwell and Riley were the only ones to not take a shot- Maxwell looked at Riley and gave her a high five.
“Eurgh, why would you damage your body? Bet you’ve got something really American.” Madeleine looked disgusted at the pair. Riley showed a picture of her tattoo on her phone to Madeleine who shook her head. Her tattoo was under her left breast on her rib cage - depending what type of bra she wore, it was discreetly hidden.
“And what the hell is that?”
“Greek for ‘forever in our hearts’. Greek because Leo always spoke it, the Apple to represent both of his homes.” Liam was shocked that he didn’t see it before- although they were too busy to even appreciate each other’s bodies, he didn’t mind her having a tattoo. Deep down he thought it was sweet and sentimental.
“I’ve got a hippo on my chest. Pretty random I know.” Max said enthusiastically to Riley, who laughed at him. Not taking him serious to begin with he explained the reasoning behind his sentimental tattoo- she soon felt guilty for her original reaction.
*****
The ball had ended, everyone went their separate ways. Liam picked Lucas up from the nanny, holding him tightly- he had hoped that Leo would approve of him looking after them. He wanted to be selfish and convince them to stay in Cordonia - maybe he could travel to New York if not, there was no social season now. So until his father passed away he didn’t have as many responsibilities. Walking into his quarters, he placed Lucas in the cot- wrapping him up tightly ensuring he was warm enough.
Knocking on the bathroom door, he wanted to make sure that Riley was okay and not too drunk.
“How are you feeling?” He asked, as he came behind her, placing his arms around her waist.
“Fine. A few shots is nothing compared to what we do in New York.” She laughed, thinking about the good times with Leo- her laugh soon turned into a sigh.
“Heh. So tomorrow, I’ve organised a memorial for Leo. I hope you don’t mind.”
“Of course not. I’ve had three months to grieve. You all need to grieve too, and do something in memory of him.”
“Talking about a memory. Where’s this tattoo? I seemed to have not seen it.” He said seductively, holding her tightly. Removing her bra, he saw it- it was an simple tattoo but it was so appropriate. Leading her to his bed, they both laid down- pulling her towards him, he spooned her affectionately. It was against protocol to share a bed until a couple was officially married- but Liam didn’t care. A bit of Leo was rubbing off onto him. Riley fell asleep immediately, Liam however couldn’t sleep. Natural instinct, made him constantly check on Lucas. Every time, he returned to bed- he kissed Riley. Wondering what type of Queen she would be- he was falling hard and quick. Shaking his head, he needed to shake these thoughts away and attempt to gain some sleep. Tomorrow was an important day-he was hoping that the kings guards had safely escorted the surprise guests. Maxwell and Drake had informed him that Drake had insisted for the people to come, but Riley said they couldn’t due to work commitments. Liam was the future King, and knew these people needed to be here earlier than expected. They were a part of Leo’s life. If Leo’s spirit was still around, he could potentially haunt Liam for not including them.
*****
The morning after, Riley woke up in a daze. Liam wasn’t next to her, getting up- she put some baggy clothes on before checking on Lucas. The young Prince was still asleep. Checking through her clothes, she thought about what she could wear for Leo’s memorial. Not really preparing to stay in Cordonia long term- she didn’t pack for occasions such as this.
“What are you doing?” Turning around recognising his voice, her heart fluttered. Liam was stood in front of her wearing regal clothing. He looked extremely handsome- she couldn’t stop gawking at him. Coughing she tried to compose herself.
“Erm, I didn’t prepare for this type of event. I should have known that you would have wanted to do a memorial service. I just didn’t think. I don’t know what I’m going to wear.”
“Well, that problem has been sorted. I’ve had some business to attend. On my way back, I went to the boutique to pick you up a dress. I hope you don’t mind.” Standing up, he gave her the dress- insisting that she tried it on.
“Thank you so much, Liam. Remind me next time to pack more of a variety of clothes.” Next time- Liam thought. He didn’t want to read too much into those words. He didn’t want to feel disappointed if she never returned to Cordonia.
“No need to thank me Riley. You’re part of the royal family. Lucas is a prince, the heir. So I’m going to look after you both whilst you’re visiting.” Part of the royal family- would they think that if Lucas didn’t exist? I’m now invested. Reality had finally sunk in, her drunken one night stand with her fake husband had resulted in an heir. The first born child of the two crown princes.
Nodding, she entered the bathroom to get ready for the memorial. Coming out shortly after, Liam gulped- even a simple black dress made her look like a goddess.
“What do you think?” Twirling around, she wasn’t sure about the dress- was it too much? Leo was outgoing and would have most likely wanted them dressed in vibrant colours.
“You look more beautiful every second that goes by.” Walking towards her, not leaving a gap- he held her tight kissing her on the forehead. It had become his new hobby. Once she returned to New York, he would begin to feel empty and lonely. Lucas woke up shortly after, they had breakfast together before making their way down to the courtyard. Riley carried Lucas, the majority of nobles gasped as it was their first glimpse of the young prince. Walking to the seats at the front of the courtyard- Riley’s face lit up.
“You brought them here? How?”
“Because they needed to be here Riley. They were a big part of Leo’s life.”
“But... they had work...”
“No buts. I failed Leo. I need to make amends. With all of you.” Pulling him in for a hug, she thanked him for not only being there for her and Lucas but for also thinking about what Leo would have wished for.
Rob and his sister Ella ran up to Riley and Lucas, pulling them both into a tight bear hug. Lucas’s eyes lit up at the familiar faces- tugging on Robs beard, the little boy snuggled into his step father’s embrace. Liam had wished that he could have spent time with them all when Leo was alive. The three Americans all began to cry- Reality was now sinking in having a memorial at Leo’s childhood home.
Constantine remained quiet at the memorial. In comparison to Reginas speech, his was short- lacking words. Liam stood up, walking to the front- he looked at the photo of Leo. Becoming emotional, he sighed.
“Hello everyone. I’d like to thank you all for coming today. I never believed that I would be doing this so soon. Leo you are my big brother, you always looked out for me. Which I am forever grateful for. I regret not keeping in touch with you on a daily basis like we used to. One of my favourite memories from when we were children, was when you convinced me that Bastien was a vampire- Bat-sien. For those who don’t know the story, I actually wore garlic around my neck for nearly a year- and slept with a stake under my pillow. You were cruel at times, but I loved you. When I found out about what had happened, Drake had dragged us to a dive bar in New York- that’s when we met Riley. The selfless woman who helped you live the life you truly wanted. I believe it was fate that we walked through that bar. That night brought her in to our lives as well as my nephew, your son. He’s your double Leo, you would be so proud of him. I love you Leo.” Wiping the tears away, he sat down next to Riley, asking if he could hold Lucas. Rob stood up next, along with Riley. They both asked Liam if they could do a speech together- not wanting to become emotional wrecks doing it individually. They spoke about moments they all shared in New York City, there were laughs from people as well as tears.
“Leo, she thought you was pranking her when she returned home early that day. You didn’t have to do it- we all loved you...” Closing her eyes, the flashback of the night remained in her mind. Rob continued with his speech.
“No matter what sexuality you was, you was still the same Leo that we loved. I know whoever threatened you- is probably sat here right now. But I know, the guards would have never allowed an attack to occur because of who you were. I love you Leo. I miss you beyond words. We all do. I hope you’re at peace now.”
Looking at Rob, Riley gave him an emotional hug, informing him that he did an amazing speech and that Leo would have been proud. Staring at the photo of Leo with his cheesy grin, she then looked at Liam holding Lucas, wondering what their future was going to be like. “My fake husband, we had a laugh trying to pull that off. At times we perfected it, at times we failed miserably. I’d have done anything to make you happy- you were my best friend. Our New York gang isn’t complete without you. I know your spirit has been following me around, and talking to me- you are a wind up merchant even in the spirit world Leo. I may seem crazy but I know your here protecting us all. We all love you. Goodnight, miss you.”
Sitting back down, the two of them were relieved to get their speeches over and done with. It was emotional bringing up their memories again. Everyone stood up and made their way into the ballroom- Liam has asked Drake to take Lucas, he could trust his friend to look after the little boy - especially as he looked after him on the plane bringing him to Cordonia. Pulling Riley to the side, he was concerned with something Rob had said.
“Riley. I need to ask you something.”
“What’s up?”
“When Rob mentioned about someone threatening Leo, and that the guards wouldn’t allow an attack to occur. What did he mean.” Riley’s chest began to rise, Leo was in such a vulnerable state after Constantine’s impromptu visit.
“Liam, in the time between your father’s visit and his death- he received threats in different ways. The first few he ignored. The final one was written in a letter- addressed from Cordonia. It was a load of bullshit- he should have just ignored it.”
“What did it say? Please tell me.” Liam eyes provided worry- he needed to know so he could keep them all safe. Resting his forehead against hers, he asked her again what it said.
We know what you are. We are planning an attack on the palace, it will be unexpected. It could be in a week, a month- maybe even in a year. When we do this, you would have had to take over the throne- that was until your father mentioned that you have a bastard son. If you don’t want your son or precious wife or boyfriend to be harmed, you will run away Prince Leo. We are taking over the throne. If you tell anyone about this- we will kill you all with our bare hands. Don’t think about escaping with your little disfunctional family. Who knows- if you compel with this little arrangement, we may forfeit the attack and consider another way to remove the remaining Rhys’s from Cordonia. Run! Run away Leo and never return.

Note
I wish you'd write a fic where Riley is really worried about the costume ball. I feel like PB did do a great job there, I find it difficult to believe they would all just go back into the ballroom without a fuss after what happened in there at the Homecoming ball I'd also like it if Riley had been shot that night as well as Drake just to make it more scary for her to go back in there.
Thanks for the request Nonny!
I got quite carried away with this and now I have 2077 words...
I agree with you that  Riley and everybody else probably wouldn't, in real life, be able to just go back in there after what took place.
Warnings: Angst, PTSD.
Permatag: @itschoicesstuff, @addictedtochoiceslove,@desiree-0816, @cordoniaqueensworld
It was the night after the art gallery that somehow, despite all the odds, Riley managed to make into something salvageable and not a complete disaster, like it was destined to be at the start of the day.
She had been lying in bed staring at the ceiling for most of the night, unable to sleep. Sleep hadn’t been something that had been coming easy for Riley since the homecoming ball.
After spending another half an hour staring at the celling she climbed out of bed and headed to Liam’s room. Liam answered after a few knocks.
“Riley, you alright?” Liam asked, his brow creased  in concern.
“Can we talk please?”
“Yes,” Liam nodded, allowing her into his room. They took a seat on his bed. “What is it you wanted to talk about?”
“The wedding,” Riley muttered.
“What about it?”
I’m not sure we should go ahead at least until we know who’s behind the assassination attempts and the videos,” Riley explained, twisting her hands together nervously. “At the homecoming ball people got hurt…. another social event like that one, especially with it being the royal wedding its seems like the perfect time for them to try again. The anti- monarchy wants us dead. I know we have to appear that we are not frightened but I am. After I… after I got shot… the wedding, the costume ball tomorrow,  I don’t know if I can do it.  I’m probably just being stupid, but that thought of being in the sort of situation again Liam…”
“Mara and Bastien will have the security side of everything covered,” Liam reassured, but that did very little to assuage his fiancée’s fears. “Do you really want to postpone the wedding?”
“No.  No, I don’t. I’m scared, Liam, I am really, really scared. I want to marry you more than anything. This was all a lot simpler when I came here, when I was ‘the mystery woman’ from New York. Everything I do, every move I make I’m being watched. My life is an open book there for everyone to see. It’s tough. I’m expected to be perfect and I don’t know how to be. I suppose it’s easier for you because you’ve grown up in the spotlight. You probably think I’m being ungrateful,” Riley explained, fighting back a few tears.
“No. I understand,” Liam told her, reaching for her hand.
“It’s not just that… The thought of tomorrows ball….It’s just bringing a lot of memories from that night back…”
Liam squeezed her hand tightly, prompting her to look up at him instead of at her hands in her lap. “Do you maybe want to talk to someone about it?” Liam asked, his thumb rubbing soothing circles along her knuckles.
“The duchess needs counselling,” Riley scoffed, “Wait until the press get hold of that. All that will prove is that the crown was affected.
“You got shot that night people will understand.”
“I’m going to ask Madeline in the morning to set up a press conference. There’s a few things I want to say, and I want It to come from me before it ends up in the papers another way.”
“Okay,” Liam  nodded. “It seems like a good idea to probably consult our friends, if that’s okay with you?”
“Yeah,” Riley said, giving Liam as small smile.
“We better get some sleep,” Liam suggested.
“Yes. I better go back to my room. Maxwell will be worried if I’m not there as he is my alarm clock,” Riley explained, getting to her feet and walking over to the door with Liam.
“About that…When we can actually sleep in the same bed can we get a proper alarm clock?”
“Yes,” Riley chuckled. “Good night your majesty.”
“Goodnight duchess.”
_
The next morning Riley  met Madeline in the boutique at Kiara’s estate before going outside doing the press conference, that Madeline had set up extremely quickly, then heading back to the palace for the ball later that evening.
“Everything for the conference is set up, now you need something to wear,” Madeleine said, looking through the different clothes on the racks.
“You know Madeline I can pick out my own outfit,” Riley mentioned.
“Yes,” Madeline sighed, turning to face the future monarch, “Do you know what you’re going to say today?”
“Yes. Me and the king discussed it last night.”
“Well I hope that you know what you’re doing.”
I do. As does Liam.”
“I have no doubt that Liam does but you on the other hand, Duchess Riley.”
“Thank you for your concern Madeline but I am getting the hang of this. I have an announcement of my own to make.”
”Just don’t screw it up,” Madeline snarled.
“I won’t.”
_
The royal couple stepped outside of Kiara’s lovely home and over to the podium that had been set up on the steps, herds of people and press swarming around.
Riley stepped up to the podium, Liam standing just behind her letting her take the lead. She adjusted the microphone slightly, took in a deep breath then started talking.
“So most of, if not all of you are probably wondering why this press conference if even being held. I, as future queen want to feel like I’m doing all that I possibly can…I watch the news, I read the newspapers, I’ve seen the headlines…After the attack, the videos, the orchard it’s getting harder to reassure everyone in the kingdom.  You all absolutely have a right to be worried, but we are doing everything in our power to find whoever is doing this. But how can we expect you all to feel like you’re safe if we don’t share the information as we receive it? We have reason to believe it is someone from the anti- monarchy and after their assassination attempts failed they resort to terrorising you, the people of Cordonia. Just because of this it doesn’t mean you have to abandon your normal day to day lives and be scared, because if you do that then they win, I understand that more than most,” Riley said, turning to Liam, who gave her a reassuring smile.
Liam stepped forward, sensing Riley’s reluctance. “As everyone knows the night of the homecoming ball Duchess Riley was very unfortunately injured during the attack at the  palace. In an effort to help my fiancée, you’re future queen in getting back to herself she has decided, with the support of myself and our friends to attend some counselling sessions-”
When Riley heard the crowds murmurs she stepped forward again, adjusting the microphone on the podium slightly.
“I know what you must all be thinking....We’ve made out that the crown was not affected and that was wrong, I think everyone in a way was affected by what happened, one way or another. And that’s okay. If we continue to make out we werent then everything we say and do will be dictated by that lie. By the anti- monarchy. I will not be stepping down from any of my royal duties, I hope I will be able to do more afterwards though.
“How did the shooting affect you exactly?” Ana asked, stepping forward in the crowd.
“I nearly died,” Riley blurted out.
“Are you saying that the press and people were misinformed of the severity of your injuries?” Anna asked.
Riley swallowed hard, looking down at the podium then back up at the people. She felt Liam grab her hand, squeezing it tightly. The simple action made her believe she could do this.
“It was a very emotional time,” she explained.
“It’s okay,” Liam whispered in her ear.
“It was not released to the public domain at the time and maybe that was wrong, but I got shot. When you get shot Miss de luca then you can tell me why you wouldn’t want a whole country to know the severity of it. I have never and will never let that get in the way of ruling this kingdom. I will continue to do my best for everyone here, for every man, woman and child and that is a promise. On the unity tour, while we were in Applewood, there were two children who used to play where the orchard was, but they couldn’t because of the scorched ground so we played with them, we spent time with them and that just reminded me of how important our roles are. How many people rely on us. When you are relied upon so much you will not, and you will never let anything, not even a bullet stand in your way. I’m not perfect and I’m done trying to be. I’m just a woman trying to do her best. Isn’t that what everyone here is trying to do? That’s all I have to say on the matter.”
_
After the Constantine drama, they all returned to the palace. In the early evening, before Riley needed to get changed she trotted through the halls of the palace to the ballroom where staff were finishing all the preparations.
She opened the doors, taking in a deep breath then walked in. Flashes of that night going through her head, she closed her eyes, squeezing them tightly as if that action could make those memories that were flooding back go away.
She turned, facing where it happened. It all happened so quickly, the lights went out, they came back on and she was staring down a barrel of a gun, frozen, unable to move, think. She remembered being tackled to the floor, she remembered Drake landing on her, his blood going everywhere, the fiery pain she felt in her stomach as the world darkened around her, hearing Liam pleading with her to stay awake…
“What are you doing in here?” Drake asked, snapping her out of her daze. Riley opened her eyes, noticing the staff had all left, leaving only her and her friend in the massive ballroom.
“Tonight we’re supposed to come back in here and act like nothing happened…This is the first time I’ve been back in here,” Riley explained.
“Me too.”
“I’m glad the unity tour is over.. But being back properly at the palace especially tonight… I just don’t know if I can do it. I thought maybe coming in here now before tonight would I don’t know… Do you ever think about that night?” She asked, turning to him.
“No,” he insisted shaking his head.
“Really?” she asked, her eyes widening, she thought about it all the time.
“Well occasionally,” Drake shrugged.
“We still don’t know how they got in.”
“But at least precautions have been put in place.”
“Yeah but…”
“At the homecoming ball it was unexpected, no one thought it was even a possibility. But this time everyone’s ready. You need to stop worrying about it Brooks,” Drake said, giving her shoulder a comforting squeeze.
“You know Neville’s going to be here, right?” Riley said, eager to change the subject.
“Don’t remind me,” Drake grumbled, “I promise I will try my best not to punch him.”
“He is irritating,” she agreed.
“I thought the future queen was supposed to like everyone?”
“I can just about tolerate him but liking him? Never,” Riley shuddered, causing herself to smile and Drake.
“How are you, Brooks?”
“I’m Fine. why?”
“After the press conference...”
“Yeah, that was eventful,” Riley reminisced. “I know marrying Liam that the press will always be involved, but it’s just… it’s exhausting. Questions about that…I just don’t know how to answer them without yelling at her. Sometimes I just wish we were all normal and did normal things.
“Normal? Normal is overrated. And me and you we were normal. Would you really want to go back to that?”
“No, well maybe sometimes.”
“’Sometimes’ meaning when your yelling at the press?”
“Yeah,” Riley nodded, “Me and Liam are being announced together to night. I can’t believe this is actually happening, that we’re actually getting married. When that stuff with Tariq happened and then he was engaged to madeleine and it was all just a mess and it wasn’t that long ago. At the coronation it all fell apart, and I can’t help but feel it will again.”
“It won’t. Your marrying Liam in two weeks,” Drake told her.
“A lot can go wrong in two weeks. It took five minutes for that to happen.”
“Oh, you need to lighten up Brooks. You really do,” Drake advised.
“Drake?”
“Hmm?”
“Thank you,” Riley smiled, pulling him into a hug.

The ABC of Love by Cora-Nova
Tumblr media
Original ABC for OTPs
created by @cora-nova
OTP pairing - Drake Walker and OC Princess/Queen Charlotte of Cordonia
Romantic ABC of Drake and Charlotte
A – Anniversaries. They have many – when they shared s’mores, their first kiss, first assignation – but the one they like to celebrate every year is the time at Applewood when Charlotte forgave Drake for being an ass and realising that she could choose him as her consort.
B – Beliefs. Drake is more of a humanist and that you should make use of the life you have. Charlotte is romantic and believes in fate and reincarnation. Drake laughs at this and says he’ll come back as a peacock and chase Maxwell through the grounds of Beaumont Manor.
C – Collectables. Charlotte collects mementoes such as a flower from every bouquet Drake has ever given her – which doesn’t amount to many as he’s not really into flowers – a lock of her mother’s hair, a pen that belonged to her father, and of course the cartridge on a chain that Drake gave her that was left over from his first shooting lesson with his father. Drake collects whiskey, though he doesn’t drink it very often since they got married.
D – Drinks and food. Growing up in the Royal Palace and travelling the world on many State visits, Charlotte has sampled many dishes from all over the world, but her favourite thing is to order pizza and eat it with Drake in his room high up in a turret that he occupied as a young man. Drake likes anything that doesn’t need cutlery to consume. Except for sushi…
E – Exercise. They both love riding, and regularly go out on Sultan and Phoenix. They first bonded over horses when they met at the age of eight. Drake practices Ju Jitsu and Karate, and Charlotte does Tai Chi and Yoga. They often try out each other’s disciplines, and Drake cannot work out how Charlotte’s Tai Chi can often overcome his karate moves.
F – First. So many firsts to choose from! Drake is especially proud of their first dance at their wedding reception, as he managed not to tread on Charlotte’s toes or bump into anyone. Charlotte remembers their first time in the gardener’s hut with fondness, when Drake first ‘made her feel like a woman’ without compromising her virginity.
G – Gold. Well, being Queen and Consort means they don’t have to worry about money – but Charlotte does, as she is responsible for the wealth and wellbeing of a whole country. Drake has never really wanted much and doesn’t worry about it, before he became consort his  attitude was if he couldn’t afford it he could do without it. Now he’s a kept man he doesn’t make extravagant demands and always budgets scrupulously when making alterations at the Manor at Valtoria.
H – Home. Cordonia is the only home Charlotte has ever had, and Drake can barely remember the ranch in Texas where he grew up before moving when he was eight. As the Royal Couple they have many homes – The Palace, a wing at Applewood, Valtoria Manor. But home is simply where the other one is.
I – Issues. The only issues they have with each other involve other people. Charlotte’s judgement of Kiara was pretty spot on, as when she had the opportunity to do so, she pretty quickly made a pass at Drake – and worse. In turn, Drake had a bad feeling about Anton round about the same time he really started to make a bid to become consort. Inf fact, both Kiara and Anton’s actions toward Drake and Charlotte respectively were almost identical. Otherwise they are very much in tune with each other and agree on most things.
J – Jolly Joker. Drake has a very dry sense of humour and most of his jokes are suggestive and feature double entendres. Charlotte loves Maxwell’s sense of humour even though the young man is very different to her true love. Her jokes are sweet and innocent, she doesn’t like dirty jokes.
K – Kids. They want to wait a little while before they get down to producing an heir – though Drake says ‘practice makes perfect’ so they take the opportunity whenever they can. Drake secretly wants a little girl, a princess to shower with affection. Being an only child, Charlotte wants at least two, if not three, and of course is expected to produce a male heir – though she is fast proving that Queens are just as powerful and effective as a King.
L – Look. Charlotte always looks the part in public, elegant and understated and wears the work of Cordonian designers such as Ana de Luca, but behind the scenes her dress is very informal and practical. When alone in their suite, she loves to walk around in just panties and one of Drake’s denim shirts. Drake thinks the panties are unnecessary. His style has always been casual, but he scrubs up well and is always presentable at official functions. The second he is able, any restricting clothing is taken off as quickly as possible.
M – Media. Having such an important public role, all Charlotte’s online accounts are vetted and composed. The only exception is What’sApp, so she can keep in touch with her friends. Drake can’t understand all the fuss about social media and is pretty much a Luddite when it comes to anything except texting. He’s not even keen on console games – he’d rather be out in the fresh air or doing something practical. He has been known, however, to have a Movie night in with Charlotte and secretly loves romantic films. Westerns and Action movies are his ‘official’ preference.
N – Network. Charlotte is of course very good at making people feel at ease, and is an accomplished diplomat in her own right. She comes across as warm and friendly whilst commanding respect. Drake is still learning how to present himself, and generally stays in the background. He is however very effective on the newly merged Council of Citizens and Nobles, and is passionate about matters that affect the ordinary citizens of Cordonia.
O – Obligations. Charlotte’s life as a young Queen was one of service to her people and she fully expected to have a marriage of convenience. In order to lessen the burden on any of her heirs and to keep pace with modern life, she is slowly handing over more power to the Councils and cutting down on lavish and unnecessary ceremonies, parties, balls and such like. Now Drake is Consort and has a Duchy of his own, he is dismayed at the number of obligations he has accumulated – but he is conscientious and excellent at delegating and nothing is neglected.
P – Pampering. Nothing is too much for Charlotte, Drake sees to her every need, even if that need is only a hug and a foot massage after a hard day in endless meetings, or ordering pizza in his turret room, or making up a hot water bottle when she has period cramps. She wants for nothing in the bedroom and neither does he. He secretly loves manicures and pedicures, and is an excellent masseur. She personally nurses him if he is ever ill – which is rare, so he always thinks he is dying when he has a cold.
Q – Questions. They have no secrets from each other – not one.
R – Routine. They always have breakfast together, and if they happen to be apart, they will set up Skype and set their phones on the table as they eat. If they are together, of course they eat their evening meal together – perhaps not always alone, but at bedtime they close the door to the world and enter their own world.
S – Sensuality. They are totally in tune physically, and fulfil each other’s needs whenever they can. Charlotte has always  had a high sex drive round about the time she is ovulating, and calls on Drake’s services more than normal then, and he is more than happy to oblige. They are well matched as far as libido goes, but they are used to being discreet – most of the time. It’s a good job the walls of the Palace are thick and the rooms large and well spaced out. The guards who stand outside the Royal Suite and some of the maids often hear odd noises but if you were to ask them, their lips are sealed.
T – Together. Some nobles expressed dismay at Charlotte marrying outside the nobility, but together they represent the Queen’s commitment to catering for the needs of all her citizens, noble or common, and the barriers between the two are rapidly breaking down – in a good way.
U – Ups and Downs. Charlotte is fond of roses and spends some time in the gardens supervising their cultivation. Drake’s passion is horses, and he spends much time at the stables. He is very proud of Phoenix’s new foal, sired by Sultan. The only thing that really depresses Charlotte is injustice and poverty, and she is passionate in her attempts to alleviate both. Drake dislikes long stuffy meetings and nobles who think they are better than everyone else. Neville Vancoeur represents pretty  much everything he hates, and he wishes he could award him the role of ambassador to Greece – if only he hadn’t offend the delegates from the word go, he’d have him reside there, so he has to put up with him for now.
V – Vacation. The world is pretty much their oyster, having access to the Royal jet, but Charlotte is conscious not only of the expense of using it, but she is a keen conservationist so short holidays are spent in private in a cabin in the wooded hills of Valtoria unless she is making a State visit and can arrange to stay for a few extra days. They rarely have time for a ‘proper’ holiday anyway so make do with the odd day or long weekend.
W – Wedding. There was of course a small private ceremony in Texas to accommodate Drake’s mother who couldn’t travel to Cordonia for the big state occasion. Both of the happy couple preferred the simple ceremony to the huge public televised event, even when Maxwell, as officiant, tried to arrange karaoke for the reception.
X – Exes. Drake slept his way through the entire court, barring Kiara, and most of the Palace staff too. When he went for therapy after his ordeal at Kiara’s hands, he realised it was all because he couldn’t have Charlotte, the only woman he ever loved. The only other outlet Charlotte ever had was Brad, who showed her his oral skills, and she made an attempt with Anton but couldn’t get past a kiss, as he accidentally called her his sweet princess which was Drake’s pet name for her. That was of course a lucky escape…
Y – Yelling. Drake’s temper is mercurial and he has a hard time reining it in. When he loses it, he loses it. Charlotte can calm him instantly. She is rarely angry, and when she is, it’s well deserved but hers is a quiet rage that reminds Drake of her father.
Z – Zoom. These two go back a long way and met when they were eight years old. They have so many positive memories, and can’t imagine a future without each other.

Queen of My Heart Chapter Index
Riley took a nap and got some reading in before showering and getting ready for the cocktail party. The day and had been long and tiring. Hopefully the next date would be somewhere relaxing, like a spa or something. She was little nervous that she could be eliminated, but after the date she and Liam had, she thought her odds of staying were pretty good.
Riley perused her closet full of Ana de Luca couture for the right dress for the occasion. She chose a slim fitted black keyhole halter gown with an embellished neckline. It was floor length with a slit on one side to mid thigh. Simple, yet elegant and sexy at the same time. She was thankful she didn’t even have to think about shoes, because Ana had paired each dress with it’s own pair of heels to match. The women were all on their own for hair and makeup tonight, but Riley’s long wavy locks were behaving, and she was pleased with her final results.
Riley heard a knock on the door just before 8pm. She knew it was Drake, so she didn’t think to check before opening it.
“Bennett, what -
~~~~~
Drake was kind of dreading this evening. He already knew Liam was keeping Riley, so it would likely mean just standing around the perimeter outside the pool and back garden area where filming would take place for hours making sure there was no suspicious activity going on. All of the crew for the show had security clearance, but with so many people running around the palace filming and working on the show, it would be easy for someone with nefarious purposes to blend in with the crowd. Drake still thought it was unlikely, but he had to follow orders nevertheless. He walked up to Riley’s door and knocked. Just like the day before, she opened the door much too quickly without checking to see who was there.
“Bennett what-” Fuck, she looks hot, Drake thought, momentarily forgetting he was about to reprimand her for not looking through the peephole. It wasn’t just that the dress highlighted her best assets--he’d seen her in a nice dress before--but her hair and makeup were more natural, more her, and everything put together just made him speechless. “uh...that’s a nice dress.”
Riley laughed. “Drake Walker, is that the second compliment you have given me today? Maybe you were in the sun too long this afternoon. Should we get you checked out for heat stroke?
“Ha ha Bennett, very funny.”
You calling me Bennett all the time seems very informal for a guard. Shouldn’t you be calling me Lady Riley or something?
Drake thought she was just giving him a hard time but he wasn’t cetrain. “Well then Lady Riley, you seem to have forgotten what we discussed yesterday about looking before answering the door.
“But I knew it was you. You told me what time you were coming,” Riley protested. “And I just started getting used to you calling me Bennett. Now anything else sounds weird. Just go back to Bennett.
God she could be difficult. This is why Drake was definitely not into her. She would bug the shit out of him. “Okay Lady Riley, Bennett, or whatever you want to be called, what if I was late and it was someone else? Just put your stubbornness aside and do what I ask when it relates to your safety, okay?”
“Fine Mr. Doom and Gloom. Anything else you need to scold me on before we leave?”
Drake knew it wasn’t his place to say anything, but Riley seemed naively sure of herself, and for some reason that bugged him. Maybe it was his own experience, or things that happened with his sister Savannah. Riley didn’t know how bad other nobles could be. She wasn’t a commoner like him, but she grew up as one. If things got hard, she might just run back home and leave Liam heartbroken. And he would have to be a real jerk not to care at all about her feelings either, even if only because he could relate to being an outsider like her.
“More of a warning than anything. This may all seem like a fairy tale right now, but real fairy tales don’t exist. This life is probably not as great as you think it is. Can you really see yourself being the Queen of Cordonia, dealing with all the political obligations, backstabbing nobles, and assassination attempts? If you think there’s any chance you can’t handle it, you might want to just bow out right now and let Liam be with someone who wants all of it.” Drake realized it came out harsher than he meant it to when he saw the hurt look in Riley’s eyes, but he didn’t know how else to say it. “I just mean-”
Riley didn’t give him a chance to explain. “I heard exactly what you meant, Drake. Thanks for your concern, but I think I can decide for myself if this is what I want. Didn’t you say you were just getting paid to ensure my safety? You can save your advice next time. Let’s just get going”
~~~~~
Riley was fuming on the way to the cocktail party. Who did Drake think he was and why did he care so much? Was it really just that he was worried about her hurting Liam? She just couldn’t figure Drake out. He was so hot and cold. One minute he’s joking around with her, the next minute he acts like he can’t stand her. But whatever, she was going to hopefully spend some time with Liam tonight, so it was time to forget about whatever stick was up Drake’s ass.
They arrived at the back of the palace, and it was absolutely gorgeous at night. There were lights strung all around the garden and pool areas, a stone fire pit, ample seating areas with plush cushions. The french doors opened up to a 3 seasons room with a bar and another sitting area.
Most of the women were there already and they all looked amazing. Riley started to get a little nervous again, but then Liam walked in. He locked eyes with her and smiled before acknowledging anyone else, and her nerves melted away.
The host Chad gathered everyone to explain the plan for the evening. “Good evening ladies. You will hopefully all get some time to spend with Liam, and then in a couple hours, the Apple Blossom Ceremony will commence. Hana already has a corsage from her date, and there are 15 additional corsages to give out, meaning 4 of you will be eliminated tonight. But as is customary during the social season, this doesn’t mean you have to go home. You are welcome to stay at court and see if you can make a connection with any of the other noble bachelors that will be attending the social events. You just won’t be part of the show anymore. Good luck to you all, and have a fabulous time.”
Riley was surprised to hear that last bit. She wasn’t aware that other noble men hung around court waiting to scoop up Liam’s leftovers. She really hoped Maxwell and Bertrand didn’t expect her to marry some other random noble man if she didn’t Marry Liam. Hopefully she wouldn’t have to find out.
As soon as Chad dismissed the women, Madeleine grabbed Liam and pulled him to a secluded seating area. Riley decided to head to the bar and grab a glass of pinot grigio. She would probably need a few drinks to make it through this evening. Hana, Olivia, Penelope, Kiara, and a few the other women were in there already lounging on the couches. Penelope started talking about her poodles and went on for at least 10 minutes. Riley had hardly heard a say a word up to this point, but apparently the key was to get her talking about her poodles.
Riley tired of the conversation inside before long and headed out to the pool area to see what was going on.
"Riley, I've been looking for you!" She turned and saw Kat standing next to her.
"Oh, hey Kat, what's up?"
"I need you to go interrupt Liam and Medeleine. She's been talking to him for too long already."
Of all the people Kat could ask Riley to do this to, Madeleine was the worst. "Are you serious? I think Madeleine hates me already. This isn't going to help."
"Well you could just let them talk all night and give them ample time to get closer. I hear King Constantine and Queen Regina are really encouraging Liam to pick Madeleine at the end."
She was pretty sure Kat was trying to get under her skin to get her to do it, and Riley was mad that it was working. "Fine. But what should I say?"
"Just politely ask for a turn to speak with Liam. Madeleine is concerned enough with her public image that she will politely step aside," Kat encouraged.
Riley walked around the corner to the semi-private alcove where Liam and Madeleine were seated. She had her hand on Liam's thigh and was talking intently while Liam listened. The whole scene made her stomach churn a little.
"Hey Madeleine, can I steal Liam from you for a bit?"
"Riley!" Liam beemed. "I was just thinking of getting up to stretch my legs. Would you walk with me?"
Madeline didn't say anything, but rolled her eyes and walked back to the party.
Liam placed his hand in Riley’s and led her further away from the party through the garden. Riley continued to marvel at how stunning everything looked all lit up at now. “These gardens are beautiful. I could spend every night out here.”
“These gardens were my mother’s vision. I often come here and think of her.” Liam paused, looking lost in thought. “You know, Drake and I have had a lot of fun out here too. We used to sneak out here when we were kids and make up games like maze-tag in that hedge maze over there.”
“Wait, are you telling me Drake knows how to have fun? I just can’t picture it.”
“Heh. It’s true,” Liam laughed. “I owe most of my fun childhood adventures to him. One time we stole a bunch of chocolates from the kitchen and ran around in the maze until we tired ourselves out. We didn’t want to go back, so we climbed up that tree in the middle of the maze and fell asleep. It didn’t end well. I fell out of the tree and landed flat on my back...But honestly, Drake is great. He’s the most loyal friend I’ve ever had. He’s been through a lot. He can be hard to get to know, but once you do, he would do anything for you.”
They walked into the maze and continued towards the center. “You better be careful talking him up so much to me. I actually might start liking him more than you,” Riley teased.
Liam smirked. “Oh you are right, he’s grumpy, sarcastic, and complains all the time. Not even worth getting to know...but in all seriousness, I hope he does find someone as amazing as you some day. He deserves to be happy.”
“So are you telling me you are saving me for yourself?”
Liam wrapped his arm around Riley’s waist and pulled her close. “I know we don’t know each other well yet Riley, but I already like where this is headed, and I’m excited to continue on this journey with you.”
Riley couldn’t resist the expectant look in Liam’s eyes. She brought her lips to his in a searing kiss.
“Ahem! I hate to interrupt this disgusting display of affection, but I would like some time with Liam now.”
Riley turned and saw Olivia standing there with a a look of contempt. “Uh, sure, he’s all yours. Thanks for the tour Liam.”
Riley went back to the party and had a few more glasses of wine. She knew she wouldn’t get any more time with Liam, as orchestrated as everything was, so she figured she might as well just try to have fun. Hana even had a few drinks and they were having fun watching a few of the women make fools of themselves. Charlotte was crying because she hadn’t gotten any one on one time with Liam. Isabelle was so drunk she was tripping over her feet.
Finally after what seemed like an eternity, Chad came back. “If I may all have your attention. It is time for Liam to decide who is going home tonight.” Liam stepped up to Chad’s side next to a table of apple blossom corsages. Chad continued. “As you recall, Hana already has her corsage. Liam, when you are ready...”
Liam began to call names one by one: Penelope, Kiara, Madeleine, Olivia, Lydia, Sophia, Grace, Charlotte, Diana, Victoria, Louisa, Amelia, Catherine, Anna.
Riley knew she couldn’t be going home, but there was only one corsage left, so she was starting to panic.
Chad spoke up again. “Liam, ladies, this is the last corsage.
Liam’s eyes met hers and he smiled. “Riley, would you please accept this corsage?”
She walked up to Liam, and he slipped on the corsage. He hugged her and she whispered in his ear. “Were you trying to make me sweat up there?”
Liam whispered back. “I was just saving the best for last. Also, I didn’t get to chose the order, the producers did.”
Chad addressed the rest of the woman. “Isabelle, Emma, Flora, and Ingrid, I’m sorry but you are not the Queen of Liam’s heart. I wish you the best of luck finding another suitor at court. Please say your goodbye’s to Liam.
Riley didn’t get another chance to speak with Liam before they were all ushered back to their rooms. Riley was still a little mad at Drake, but after her discussion with Liam, she understood that he was guarded and complex. She was more determined than ever to break down his walls, if only to get to know Liam’s best friend better. Plus after 4 glasses of wine, she wasn’t in the mood to hold back.
“I still don’t like what you said to me earlier...but I talked with Liam tonight and he says you are a good guy, so maybe your intentions were in the right place. I’m going to make you like me Drake Walker, just wait and see. Everyone likes me, it’s my thing. And I’m going to make you show me the side of you that Liam sees. He says its in there somewhere. Just wait, I’ll get it out of you.”
“Heh, is that a challenge? Good luck with that. I can be very stubborn.”
“Challenge accepted.”
“Okay Bennett, we’ll see about that...but we are back at your room now, and you seem like you need some sleep, and I certainly do. Goodnight.”

ANIKA LAINE
TWENTY-ONE
SHAPE SHIFTING
EMMA DUMONT Madison Davenport
CLOSED
Tumblr media
Anika grew up in foster care, having never known her parents or the reason they thought the best option would be to give her up. The girl spent her life moving between home after home, never staying anywhere for too long, not solely because the families didn’t want her but because they just couldn’t put up with her; they often specified the difference between the two. She was never a hit with the kids no matter what school she went to. She was always the kid at the back of the class that seemed to cause the most trouble in school and the very same attitude extended to most, if not all aspects of her life. Anika simply loved causing trouble. As far as she was concerned it was one of the best ways to entertain herself even if others around her didn’t seem to agree with her methods of entertainment, any foster parents included. And as soon as she found out about her power, the trouble could only increase, along with the fun. Some would say her behavior was a cry for help; others suggested it was simply the typical behavior of a foster kid and nothing could be done about it. Of course, that very attitude enraged Anika and, spitefully, she lived chose to live down to their expectations.
As she grew up, her looks began to paint a much nicer picture than her personality had ever been able to. She was beautiful and she couldn’t cover that up with her multiple piercings and rather extreme haircuts, though she did try her best. Much to her disproval, at first she caught the attention of many boys after puberty hit her good, though she quickly adjusted to the change in her life, finding some sort of connection with a horrific influence, despite the fact she surely didn’t need one. She got involved at the young age of fifteen with a young man two years older, Ace. He was the stereotypical bad boy; he was involved in theft, drugs, violence and most importantly, gang involvement. Naturally, his behavior exacerbated hers.
She spent years with Ace but eventually the both of them were sent to prison for their various crimes. By that point, Anika had mastered her power and had no trouble sneaking out. But that never meant she learned her lesson. Time and time again she would break the law, even years after splitting from Ace. It was only years after that she was tracked down by the government, after multiple miraculous breakouts of prison. Anika would say herself that she was surprised it had taken them so long to do so. But she didn’t go without a fight either. Now at Lake Grimstone though, she’s sure she can put her talents to good use in one way or another. Top of her list was taking the government down, once and for all. The kinds of trouble Anika was able to get into were not nearly as fun as the kinds she’d been getting into before she was found, and her number one priority is finding a way out. The prison was never able to stop her, so she doesn’t see why the government should. Now that she helped TRP take control, she is counting the days until she can get out of the prison. Unfortunately, TRP has not given them a date yet but she is ready, nonetheless.

POSITIVE: fun, loyal, independent, resourceful NEGATIVE: aggressive, troublesome, impish, defiant

SCOTT PAINE
Though she probably wouldn’t admit, Anika definitely enjoys Scott’s company; the two of them have fun together, that’s undeniable. The only trouble was that, with him being a guard, he didn’t seem to be thrilled by the whole situation. She doesn’t know much about him, but she’s fairly private with him as well so she can’t blame him. However, it is his belief in her that makes her think that, despite his being her enemy in a way, they could become friends.
KIARA DAWSON
Admittedly, Kiara is the last person Anika thought she would ever be able to like– she’s too shy and too cautious and usually, that’s something Anika looks down on and often questions. However, living with her stirred something in her that she’d only really felt during some brief, fleeting interactions with fellow inmates during her various prison stints. Anika has no interest in expressing the feelings she’s been feeling, but in the meanwhile, she’s enjoying getting closer and closer to the girl.
LUCAS GREENMAN
Generally, guys like Lucas just make Anika want to slap them herself. At first, she tried to put up with Lucas for Kiara’s sake, but as she is forced to become aware of her feelings about Kiara, she’s become more and more resentful. He’s simply not good enough for Kiara. If Anika was pressed, she could probably say one or two nice things about him, but more often than not, she finds herself annoyed by him.
JAY VASQUEZ
Training with Jay was not Anika’s idea of a good time. She sensed that the guy was hiding something but wasn’t quite sure on what that was. However, it all became quite clear when TRP engineered a coup to take over Lake Grimstone. While she still doesn't know why he did what he did she does want to find out. They had been training partners for a while and whether she wants to admitted or not she did see him as a friend, the only question now is whether or not she can trust him.

The Kook's side of the island is this best place to be if you want to be caught by police.
I was currently with the most amazing people in the world, and my brother. There is this house on the kook side that's being built. My dumbass brother was standing on the roof of one the sections of the house. " I give you about a one-in-three chance of survival," Pope said looking up at my brother John B. "Hm," John B sipped his drink before liking his finger and sticking it in the air, "Should I do it?" He said as looked around, "Yeah, Jump," the voice of JJ came from next to me, "JJ!" I giggled a hit his arm, he threw his hands up in the air in defence. "I shoot you on the way down," Pope raised the electric drill. "You'll shoot me?" John B questioned, "yep," JJ said expressionless, "Pow!" John B used finger guns. "They are gonna have Japanese toilets with towel warmers," Kie walked out, " Of course they are why wouldn't they?" I joined in the conversation, "This used be a turtle habitat, but who cares about the turtles, I guess?" She talked as walked over to the place where John B was. " I can't have cold towels," John B sarcastically stated," Can you please not kill yourself?" Kie looked up. " Don't spill that beer!" JJ took a drink of his beer, " I am not giving you another one," He continued. "Whoa! Oh shit," I looked over to see John B almost slip, he instead dropped his beer. "Of course you did!" JJ yelled. "smooth" I commented. Pope warned us that there was security and off we ran.
We loaded up into the van after outrunning the security. "hey, hey, hey, hey, hey!" the guard yelled. " Check out Gary, gunnin for a raise," Pope laughed, "Come on Gary!" I laughed out. "Wait wait slow down slow down!" JJ said as he leaned out of the open van door. " Your gonna give him a heart attack," Kie said. But JJ persitited, " Your so close!" he reached his hand out " You can do it There you go!" JJ laughed. " They don't pay you enough bro," JJ once again teased the man named Gary. " JJ stop stop" Kie and I said at the same time, " Oh, come on, that sort of initiative is just begging to be punished," He laughed.
"The outer Banks, Paradise on earth."
" it's sort of a place where you either have two jobs or two houses."
"Two tribes, one island: Alright so this is the Figure Eight, the rich side of the island."
"Home of the kooks, So, guess where we don't live."
"And then, this is the south side or the cut."
"Home of the working class who make a living busing tables, washing yachts, running charters, the natural habitat of... drumroll, please...the pogues."
"That's us."
"Pogues, pogies, the throwaway fish, lowest member of the food chain."
" Okay so the downside of the pogue life is that we are ignored and neglected."
"But the upside of pogue life? we are ignored and neglected, which means we do whatever we want, whenever we want."
"Nice haul dude, look at that."JJ said shocked, "Ughh John B!" Kie and I finished the last part together. " Bro you got water on me!" I threw my book at him.
"So that guy driving the boat in front is JJ he has been best friends with John B and I since 3rd grade. He is about as local as they come, Latest in a long line of fishing, drinking, smuggling, vendetta-holding salt- lifers who made their living off the water. John B says he is the best surfer he knows but don't tell him I said anything. Mild Kleptomaniac and future tax cheat."
"That's Kiara or kie as we call her, When she is not saving turtles or listening to Marley or getting a dolphin tattoo, she hangs out with us, I'm not really sure why, though So, shes a rich kid actually. Foot in both worlds, Her family owns the Wreck, the outer banks institution, total cash wo with the tourist, you know, I'm not really sure how her parents feel about us."
"That's Pope the brain of the operation...Finalist for the Lucas T. Vanderhorst Merit Scholarship. And the smartest person I know, Little bit of a weirdo. His father's legendary character, Heyward, anything you wanted on the island Heyward could get for you.Now I'm not sure Heyward Knew what to make out of his oddball son,but it didn't matter he was a pogue, just like the rest of us.
"SO THAT'S MY CREW!"
"And that's me, Y/N Y/M/N Routledge, oh and there's my brother John Brooker Routledge."
"This where my brother and I live, An old fish shack on the marsh the chateau, as my dad used to call it, he disappeared at sea nine months ago, looking for a shipwreck, Then there's JB and I's mom she split when we were three. Then there's Uncle T
"Uncle T!" JB says clinking his beer on the picture.
"Since dad's vanished, he's supposedly our legal guardian, at the moment he is in mississippi, building houses...which means it just me and my brother on our own hanging out with our friends.
Three months after our dad was missing he was officially presumed dead, JB and I had refused to sign the papers no body no giving up."
"John and Y/n, it has come to our attention that you're an unemancipated minors living on your own," The social worker told us,"No...no," John B scoffed, "No," He said again "I need honesty to help you two..that's what you want right?" The social worker scolded us, "Yeah," I sighed, "we are being honest," John B said with a slight smile, "okay, then when was the last time you spoke to your uncle?"she looked down and wrote something down. "Uh...34 minutes ago," JB looked at his "watch", "When's the last time you saw him?" She asked looking up again, "Two hours and...43 minutes ago?" I said trying to sound confident wasn't working, "John Y/n, we're gonna come out there tomorrow to talk to your uncle if he's not there then we are going to move forward with foster care," She wrote things down again, "I want to assure you, were are going to find you two a safe loving home," she sound so nice wow didn't know that happened. But foster care no absolutely not I will not be put into some family that is being paid to take care of me! If we needed Uncle T he would come back plus there are plenty of people on the island that could help us!
"That's were this story really starts my dad missing, my uncle MIA,and the bride of Frankenstein threatening foster care,"
I just sat down by the water my heart felt as if it was sunken into my stomach.
"But then we caught a break there was a hurricane on it's way to outer banks hurricane Agatha. Agatha was coming the same day DCS was supposed to do mine and John B's
assessment. I can't believe I am saying this but thank god for Hurricane Agatha!
The alarm for hurricane went off as people started to freak out boarding things up and yelling. John B called DCS definitely gonna have to reschedule.
John B and Pope went to go ride hurricane waves or whatever I don't really pay attention anymore. I decided to hang out with JJ for tonight. We played board games and drank at JB and I's house until they came back. I woke up in the morning on the pull out laying next to JJ I couldn't tell if he was awake so I just stayed there. Soon after though John B came out, "Aye JJ Y/n been outside?"
"I have polio, bro I can't walk," I laughed at JJ's comment and sat up. I grabbed a pair of shoes and went outside JJ following soon after "Agatha did some work huh?"JJ asked ," Yeah, she did," John B replied, "what you thinking?" I asked John B as he pulled stuff off the boat, "I am thinking that the storm surge pushed all the crabs out of the marsh maze all those drum are gonna chase crab," JJ looked at me "what about the DCS?" Then at John B, "wasn't that today?" I rolled my eyes "Nah, they're not getting on a ferry, come on, think about it it's god telling us to fish!" I smiled.
JJ is such flirt I asked Mrs. Amy a simple question did you make it through and she said still here. But JJ has to be all like "She totally looked at me," but that's not all John B has the audacity to agree and say "I saw it," like ughhh wait why do I even care! It's not like me JJ are dating so I need to cool it.
"Well look who we have here," JJ made a funny voice, "we have a safety meeting attendance mandatory," John B turned and covered his mouth and tucked his head into this shoulder. "I can't my pops got me on lockdown." Pope said stepping up to the edge of the dock. "Come on man" I mimic the boys static impression. "Your dads a pussy. Over," JJ added I hit his arm, "oh, I heard that you little bastard," Heyward came down the steps, "We need your son," John B yelled, "Yeah island rules day after hurricane's a free day" JJ added, "who the hell made that up?" Heyward asked, " Uh...pentagon I think we have security clearance," I laughed once again at JJ's weird humor, "I have a card," Heyward asked again"do you think I am stupid?" Pope turned to his father "I'll do it tomorrow, I promise tomorrow," I whispered for him to get into the boat and he did Heyward wasn't having it though. We made our way over to kie "top o' the morning to ya," JJ flirted again, Pope asked what she had in her cooler. We all laughed about her remark about what was in the cooler.
A/n;( As you can see I am getting kinda lazy currently at 1719 words sooooooooooooo yeah!)
TIME SKIP———After they found the key and get to the hotel.
...............................................
"Just be so careful, John" JJ mimicked Kie from earlier, "God Why are you so weird," John B got out of JJ's grip, "What was that about?" JJ said, "I don't know maybe she wants us to be careful,"John B trued to rationalize the situation, "Ever since she heard you're being threatened with exile, she just been, like oh be so careful, John B," JJ started to rub his shoulders until JB pushed him off again, "get off" but JJ continued "Oh just give me that John D already when are you gonna swoop in on that man?" I rolled my eyes at the boys irresponsibility, I kinda zoned them out I heard something about the pogue on pogue mackinaw thing I don't know, but then something caught my attention, "besides your always hitting on her," my heart sank, "Of course I am always hitting on her, she's a super hot rich hippie chick slumming with us," I didn't want to listen anymore but I couldn't help it my heart was breaking into two "you need help not like a little bit of help you need a lot of help it's like every girl who has a heart beat you like "uhhh"!" Yeah every girl but me "what was that y/n/n?" Did I say that out loud "oh nothing just thinking," oops "this is it," John B tapped the door, "house keeping" JJ said it a high pitched voice and John B asked if we should try the hotel key we found and we all agreed he should. John B went inside I was about to follow but JJ pulled me back, "what?" He just looked into my eyes, "I heard you ya know how could I not notice you," and he walked inside.

Back on track with the main story...
An Unusual Wedding 1
‘Well that didn’t go too badly.’ said Lucy with a sigh of relief as the reporter’s car drove off. Drake ran his finger around his collar, simulating choking, and undid the top button.
‘The sooner I’m out of this suit the better.’ he grumbled. Brad clapped him on the back. The three of them went back into the house, to relax in the drawing room.
‘Well done Drake, your foot went nowhere near your mouth.’ he grinned ‘We’ll make you a proper Duke yet.’
‘When hell freezes over.’ he retorted.
‘Come on now, don’t paint all the nobles with the same brush.’ said Lucy ‘Remember Penelope’s parents – and Kiara’s aren’t all bad either. And Maxwell…’
‘Maxwell is… Maxwell. I’d challenge anyone to label him.’ said Brad.
‘Oh I can think of a few labels for him.’ said Drake. ‘not all of them complimentary. Plus I daren’t go near him in case he’s planning on writing another book. Who knows what he’s making of our arrangement. Maxwell writing a bonkbuster is not a flattering thought.’
‘Bonkbuster?’ asked Liam. The King wasn’t always up to date on current memes and colloquialisms.
‘Kiss and tell.’ explained Drake, and Brad looked blank for a moment, then his face cleared.
‘Oh I see. No that would not be a good thing.’ he said with alarm. ‘What goes on behind closed doors – well it would be speculation anyway as he’s not involved, but still…’he shuddered at the thought.
‘So what’s next?’ asked Lucy. ‘It seems like we have time to kill as I’m not out of the woods yet. I’m still under doctor’s orders.’
‘We do have a wedding ceremony to arrange.’ replied Brad. ‘Drake, I know you don’t like showy elaborate occasions, and we told the Press that it would be a private ceremony – so what’s your preference?’ Drake looked thoughtful.
‘My ideal would be just the three of us.’ he mused. ‘but Savannah would kick my backside into the middle of next week if I got married without her there.’
‘Hana would be hurt too, and Maxwell.’ said Lucy ‘Plus we have to have a photographer.’
‘Please let it be simple.’ pleaded Drake. ‘before you know it we’ll have a couple of hundred guests and have to hold it in the cathedral.’
‘Okay so let’s be realistic, absolute minimum guest list?’
‘Savannah and Bertie, Maxwell, Bertrand and Hana.’
‘How about the Queen Mother? asked Lucy.
‘I’ll invite her but I’m not sure if she will come. I think Drake is right, absolute minimum is just that. How about location?’
‘Somewhere remote and private.’ said Drake, and Lucy nodded.
‘How about the cabin up in the hills here?’ This time Lucy made a face.
‘I’m not ready to go up those mountain tracks again.  Not just yet.’
‘How about that place we went camping?’ asked Brad ‘It’s remote and overlooks the sea and we all have happy memories of being together there.’
‘That actually sounds like an excellent idea.’ agreed Drake, and Lucy nodded.
‘So apart from our guest list, there will have to be security, a photographer, and a celebrant.’ said Brad
‘How about Ana de Luca for the Press?’ suggested Lucy. ‘We’re on friendly terms after all we’ve been through, I’m sure she’d be happy to cover it.’
‘Bastien to arrange a security detail then, so that just leaves a celebrant. Leo would possibly be available.’ Brad said, walking up and down in front of the window, hands clasped behind his back. Lucy sat on an overstuffed sofa next to Drake, holding his hand.
‘I could wear my wedding dress a second time, but what about afterwards? Should we have some sort of reception?’
‘How about a barbecue or picnic?’ grinned Drake ‘Keep it really simple, we won’t need catering staff, and the guests can camp out too.’ Lucy giggled.
‘That sounds like a lot of fun – what do you think, Brad?’
‘I’m happy with whatever you two want to do – after all I’m sort of a third wheel in all this.’ Lucy’s face fell, and she got up and stood in front of him, holding his hands in hers and gazing into his eyes.
‘We’re all equals in this partnership Brad.’ she said softly.
‘Thankyou Lucy my dearest, but I had my day in the cathedral, and Drake was in the background. It’s only fair that the focus is more on him this time, even if there are less than twelve guests rather than the whole country watching.’ Lucy put her hands on his shoulders and pulled herself up to kiss him on the lips.
‘You’re so selfless. I love you so much’ she smiled, hugging him close. Drake smiled fondly, not minding the moment of intimacy, knowing that he was securely held in Lucy’s affection.
‘Ok, so all we have left is a date.’ said Brad. ‘anything else is just window dressing.’
‘Can we do it in a week? asked Drake. ‘The sooner the better as far as I’m concerned, though if it was just us three I’d do it tomorrow.’
‘Right.’ said Brad ‘Lets split the task. Lucy, you should open up a group chat with Hana and Maxwell, and Drake, you can talk to Savannah. I will contact Ana and Leo. We can share progress at dinner time.’
 --------
Alone in his room, Drake stared at his phone. He had just finished talking to Savannah and the entry taking up all his attention now was marked ‘Mom. His stomach knotted, his heart beat a steady elevated rhythm, and his palms felt clammy. It would be early morning where she was. He had not spoken to her for months, not even to tell her he’d found Savannah. He knew his mother and sister had been in contact since then, and she knew about little Bartie. Savannah had said she’d wanted to come over and meet her new grandson but was waiting for her daughter’s wedding to Bertrand. Apparently when his name had been mentioned, his mother had said ‘When Drake wants to talk to me, he can.’
And he did want to, more than anything.
But what can you say when you’ve not talked for months, not spoken about such a vital thing as rediscovering your sister after she went missing for over a year? Unless Savannah had told her, she knew nothing of Lucy, nothing of his internal battle over falling for his best friend’s – his King’s – prospective wife, nothing of his descent into near alcoholism. What would she think of the odd relationship he was about to commit himself to? Never mind that his mother had chosen to leave them after his father died…
He screwed his eyes shut and pressed his fingers to his forehead. The afterimage of the screen remained on his retina. He tried to think it through – what if he told her nothing? She would find out through Savannah or even worse, through the media. He realised that she might wake to the press banging on her door, hounding her, despite being out in the wilds of Texas on the family ranch. She might already have heard…
He had to ring now. Before he could talk himself out of it, he stabbed at the screen.
He heard the tone of the phone ringing and waited, his stomach doing somersaults. It felt like an eternity before it stopped. There was a pause before she spoke.
‘Drake?’ tears pricked his eyes at the sound of her voice, not sleepy as he expected, but alert – and guarded.
‘Mom.’ His voice was unsteady. There was another pause.
‘Speak to me, son.’
‘Mom, I’m – I’m sorry I haven’t been in touch. So much has happened.’
‘So I hear. Your sister has kept me updated – though maybe you have more to tell me than she’s said. I told her, if you want to tell me anything about – about yourself – that it has to come from you, not from her.’
‘Mom, maybe if you were closer, if you weren’t so far away.’ he began, then bit his tongue.
‘I’m sorry, son.’ there was genuine regret in her voice. ‘I’m sorry I’m not there with you. But I couldn’t stay. Everything about Cordonia reminded me of your father, and I hated the place because it had destroyed him. I wanted to take you and Savannah with me – but Brad assured me you would have a home in Cordonia, and it wasn’t fair to take you away from everything you knew. I wanted you to finish your education, not uproot yourself and end up somewhere you felt out of place…’
‘But I was out of place anyway,’ he wanted to say, ‘All those stuck up nobles looking down their noses at me. I wanted to be with you, but you shut me off,’ Instead he had stayed to look after Savannah, who loved being at court. Look how well that had turned out in the short term, he thought. But instead he swallowed his pride, realising that there was another long silence developing. He had to put it all behind him, try to forgive, even if it was impossible to forget.
‘I fell in love.  I fell in love with – with my best friend’s girl.’
‘Oh son.’ there was regret in her voice.
‘But – but she loves me too… and I’m so happy.’
‘Son?’ her voice was choked up, but no more words came, and he had to fight his way past the ache in his own throat.
‘Mom, we’re getting married.’ he blurted out. Silence… he could hear her sniffling.
‘Drake… what about…’
‘It’s all ok, it’s all fine. We’re going to be together, the three of us.’ it all came out in a rush. ‘You – it’s strange, it’s ok here, you can – can do that sort of thing now. Brad’s made it legal.’
‘I know, son. Constantine was married to Brad and Leo’s mothers when we first moved there.’
‘You knew?’
‘Your father, rest his soul, told me and it wasn’t a secret then.’
‘So – it’s Brad and Lucy - and me. Did Savvy tell you about Lucy?’
‘I could hardly not know about her. I follow the foreign news.  She sounds like a remarkable woman.’ There was a note of curiosity in her voice now.
‘I had to tell you. We’re getting married very soon. Within the week.’
‘I’m happy for you.’
‘Do you want to – can you come?’
‘Oh Drake – Drake, of course I want to.’ They were both crying now, but it was happy tears. ‘I’ll book the flight straight away.’
‘I can pay for it. You can stay at Lucy’s place - well, it’s mine too. I’m a Duke – would you believe it?’
‘Drake Walker, you have a lot to answer for, and we have a lot of catching up to do.’
‘I love you Mom.’
‘I love you too, son.’
‘See you soon. Tell me when you’re arriving.’
‘Till then, son.’
After she hung up, he continued to stare at the phone for a while. Then he stood up and gave a whoop, punching the air. He ran into the corridor and burst into Brad’s room. Brad looked up from his phone, startled.
‘Mom’s coming - she’s coming to the wedding!’ he cried in triumph, and Brad’s face broke into a broad smile as he put his phone down. He crossed the room and threw his arms around Drake, patting him strongly on the back before stepping back again.
‘That’s great news Drake. It will be good to see her again. Congratulations.’
‘I’ve got to tell Lucy. We’ve got to get a room ready for her. I have to call Savannah too.’ and Drake ran out into the corridor again.
