hi!!! this is the playlist anon from before, back to gush over ur music taste! (and i'm sorry this is gonna be a long ask fgdsafjksdh) your playlist was like a godsend in finding some good new music! and i will gladly say what i enjoyed about it! :D first, you reminded me about Metric! i mean- ok, Nimona reminded me about them first when they played Gold Guns Girls (i had a blast during this scene btw dgsh) but it was your playlist that made me really return to them and look more into their music more xD like, when i was listening to Now or Never Now i was like, oh this is so good whats the band and i was shocked it was Metric i had to double check fdsagj this song has just such a different feel than what i remember from them! thanks to you i've been listening to Art of Doubt and i think it's my fave album from them! second, Will Wood, Modest Mouse, Of Monsters and Men, The Crane Wives and Lemon Demon are also always a win in my book! fsdjsdf third, i discovered a lot of new artists thanks to you! but man, if i mentioned all the songs that ur playlist made me discover and add to my faves on spotify i'd have to mention like 90% of the playlist fasdhdfs but my absolute faves are probably the previously mentioned Metric songs, Lessons Learned by Matt and Kim, Boy by Ra Ra Riot, The Distance by Aly & AJ, Quiet Little Voices by We Were Promised Jetpacks (the delicate 'Crunch' on the guiter in this one is delicious!) and Shark Attack by GROUPLOVE in short: great playlist! thought about making/sharing more??? asking for a friend! 👀 (and oh man my music taste is all over the place I can listen to anything so recommending songs and judging what is good is hard fasdgjk but maybe something close in the vibes of ur playlist! hmmm you might already know it but ever heard about Fish in the Birdcage? I LOVE Metric!! theyre one of the bands my brother and I both really like and we’ve been to one of their concerts — it was so good! (if youre interested in how that went I took a video of them playing Black Sheep!) I went absolutely rabid when I heard it in Nimona (NIMONA IS SO GOOD!!!!!!)

Will Wood’s IN CASE I DIE album was a huge point of obsession for me last year. my friends were deeply concerned about the amount of times I listened to Cicada Days (Live at Knitting Factory, Spokane, WA)

THRILLED TO KNOW YOU ENJOY MATT AND KIM THOUGH!!! ABSOLUTE REQUIRED LISTENING FOR ANYONE WHO WANTS TO KNOW ME. they were my FAVORITE band in high school and college, and I had several of their albums that I played in my car!! highly highly recommend Cameras and Silver Tiles by them (and also just the whole Sidewalks album!)

I’m crazy about my playlists and will absolutely never turn down the chance to share them so here are a few!

March March March March is what I was listening to in - you guessed it - March!

October feels different this year. is one of my favorite playlists from 2023. it has some overlap with my gender playlist and in general is just really close to my heart. (The Milk Carton by Madilyn Mei had been a HUGE obsession for me I LOVE that song)

if you want a wildly different vibe rat nao is my country music playlist (I Am Not Immune To Being A Southerner) (there’s also a little bitty bit of overlap with my October playlist!) (its not 100% country but its all songs that make my accent terribly thick)

a heart’s a heavy burden is my other pinned playlist on Spotify and it’s all of the songs (more or less, approximately) every song I’ve ever cried to

Quintessential Listening is my abridged music taste from my entire life and its a VERY LONG PLAYLIST that I don’t actually recommend unless you want a lot to choose from and/or have a deeper understanding of me as a person (I made this playlist for fun I admittedly dont listen to it much fjskfjdj) (fun fact nobody asked for but I love sharing: my 4th birthday party was themed after Somebody To Call My Lover by Janet Jackson) (ALSO the picture for this playlist is a collage of photos I myself have taken!)

i AM familiar with Fish in a Birdcage!!!! I love the song and also the band - my favorite song by them though is Rule #13 - Waterfall. my friend Kit is more into them than I am, I think, admittedly, but I still really enjoy them! if you like them, I’ll recommend the same songs I did for Kit (November by Sparkbird — The Room Is Filled With People That Love You by Foresight — So Alright, Cool, Whatever by The Happy Fits)

I’m not familiar with the other three songs, so I listened to them on my drive to work this morning. They were fun, I enjoyed listening to them!

Funnily enough, I’m going back to college this fall and I’ve had a hard time figuring out my feelings about it. my therapist told me to try making a playlist and I’ve been struggling to find songs that aptly convey how I feel. Sail Away is one of the first songs that’s clicked, so thank you!

I also listened to Great Time to be Human by Jagwar Twin (twice to make sure I absorbed it well) and it’s very fun!! it reminds me of Glass Animals (who I also really enjoy). actually rotated my friend’s ocs in my head a little bit to the chorus.

ALSO IF YOU WANT TO SEND ME A PLAYLIST, I WOULD LOVE THAT? no pressure to ofc but I love exchanges! I love sharing! I love learning about other people!

as always, i was in my whiskeytango feels and decided to write something! they live in my mind rent free so enjoy! as always, comments and constructive criticism are appreciated! 🥰

- million words by the vamps

It’s quiet when Whiskey walks into the Haus after his last class of the day. And anyone who is familiar with the Samwell men’s hockey team knows that this is cause for concern. It may be quieter now that Ransom and Holster are gone, but it’s almost never this quiet. It’s eerie, and Whiskey doesn’t like it.

Last year, Bitty would be stress-baking in the kitchen, either muttering French flash cards or singing Beyoncé songs. Ollie and Wicks would be playing Super Smash Bros on the couch in the den, chirping and jostling each other. (Whiskey still thinks they’re together but no one besides Ford believed him when he brought it up). Dex usually stomped around, occasionally tinkering with machines around the Haus and affectionately arguing with Nursey. Chowder will aggressively watch Sharks games, sometimes angrily yelling at Devyn Dubnyk for his seeming inability to guard a goal.

But Bitty’s not here anymore, and neither are Ollie and Wicks. As far as Whiskey can tell, Dex and Nursey aren’t here at the moment (probably on a date that they don’t want the team to know that they’re on). Chowder’s absent as well, most likely in his senior programming class he despises.

The one voice he should hear but doesn’t is Tango’s. Tango’s almost always talking. He’ll ask about Dex’s tinkering and his occasional pie baking. He’ll talk to Chowder about the Sharks and how they’re doing during the season, occasionally asking about players. He’ll play video games with Hops. He’ll ask Bully about his motorcycle and his drawings. He’ll talk to anyone about anything, asking questions, pushing for explanations, and smiling when they get excited about the topic.

It’s strange to not hear him talk, not hear the cadence of Tango’s New Jersey tenor. The Haus doesn’t seem like the Haus without it. He should be here, he doesn’t have class and after Ollie and Wicks gave him their dibs (he’s one of the only ones able to tell them apart), he should be here. Worried, he shoots a quick text to Ford.

Me: Hey, where’s Tango? He’s not here.

Ford: he should be there resting

Ford: lost his voice, so he can’t talk

Ford: dex said that he’s making some soup when he gets home but maybe check in :)

Me: Okay, thanks.

Ford: no problem! see u soon

Well, that answers his question.

Not wanting to disturb Tango’s nap, he settles on the green couch that Bitty got cleaned as a graduation present from his parents. It’s not so disgusting now and Whiskey appreciates that he can type out his essay without worrying if that sticky stain on the cushion is just soda or some other concerning substance. It finally looks like you won’t get an STD after sitting on it for more than five minutes.

But for the newly clean environment, Whiskey can’t seem to get comfortable. He keeps feeling like something’s not right. There’s this feeling that won’t leave him alone: something, or someone, is missing.

And that’s when he realizes, he misses Tango. There’s no warm presence next to him. There’s no 6 feet of New Jersey native pressed up against the back of the couch, the arm of the chair, or the front of the couch, leaning against Whiskey’s knees. It’s quiet, and cold. It’s awful. He didn’t realize Tango took up this much space in his life.

Fuck.

In an attempt to distract himself, he wanders into the kitchen. He’s trying to ignore the newly realized feelings about his best friend, but in his mindless state, he ends up making a warm mug of lemon ginger tea. Even when he’s trying to not focus on Tango, he subconsciously focuses on him. There’s a metaphor in there, but Nursey is the English major, not him.

Carefully picking up the mug that someone ended up making once upon a time in a ceramics class for a required art credit, he starts the trek up the creaking stairs to the attic. With everyone out, or otherwise busy, it’s quiet. All Whiskey can hear is the creak of the stairs, his own breath, and an occasional mechanical whirring sound.

When he reaches the top of the stairs, the door is closed, which usually means “disturb with caution” so Whiskey tentatively knocks. He ends up quietly calling “Tango?” before remembering that Tango’s lost his voice and should be resting. So he slowly cracks the door, walking into Tango’s room.

“I brought you some tea,” he says, bringing it over to where Tango’s sitting on his bed.

To be completely honest, he looks terrible. He’s still wearing pajamas and is wrapped in about three different blankets, surrounded by a mountain of tissues. He looks paler than usual, his hair sticking up in different directions, no doubt from fitful sleep. His eyes are sad and glassy and his nose is red. He doesn’t look like Tango. He looks like a shell of himself.

“I thought it might help,” he continues, handing the mug over. Tango just nods his thanks.

It’s weird, not having Tango smile brightly at him and prattle on about whatever’s around them. He just looks sad, and Whiskey curses every time freshman year he wished Tango would just shut up. His freshman year self got his wish and it’s awful. He hates it.

And because Tango can’t talk, there’s just silence between them now. Whiskey’s not good with words. He doesn’t know how to make them come out right some of the time. So he just lets them swirl around inside him until they become too much to bear and they force their way out of his mouth.

But Tango isn’t like that. He’s loud, he’s bubbly, and he lets every word in his head come out when it wants. He talks about what he wants to talk about. He’s generous with his words, freely talking to anyone about anything. It’s breathtaking to be around him. He fills the world with ideas and thoughts, and Whiskey loves it.

Being around Tango feels like warmth and love. It feels like sitting on the bus together: Tango with his friendship bracelets and Whiskey with his homework that he gives up on doing when Tango ropes him into watching a movie with him. It feels like his Abuela’s cooking. It feels like sitting in the sun in the Quad, surrounded by friends. It feels like...Tango.

But it doesn’t feel like that right now. Tango’s quiet. So Whiskey takes a deep breath and starts talking.

He talks about his day. He talks about his confusion when he walked into the Haus and it was quiet and how he was scared someone died (Tango tries to laugh a little at that but ends up in a coughing fit). He talks about Arizona. He talks about the latest Capitals and Rangers game. He talks about classes. He talks about whatever he can think of because if he can make Tango feel as warm as he makes Whiskey feel, he’d say about a million more words.

But a million words still wouldn’t be enough to explain how much he loves him.

I wrote this about 2 years ago and decided to finally post it

Putting it under a keep reading because it might get long

Chowder

He’s from the bay area, right? he has what I like to call Fog Vision. because anyone who’s ever been to the bay knows it gets foggy. he can navigate his way through it without bumping into anything. Fog. Vision

(these are like disgustingly stereotypical Californian headcanons but i’m from california leave me alone)

he got a job his junior year of high school and proceeded to blow his entire first paycheck on in n out

he doesn’t really like their fries, but he thinks their burgers are the Best Thing Ever

the east coast’s lack of in n out is Cruel to him

Contrary to popular belief, his favorite animal is a cheetah, and not a shark (i will not provide further info)

he took a creative writing class with nursey sophomore year, and actually kinda liked it

loves lemonade

on the same note, can eat a lemon without like.. dying ig. like his face doesnt even move he just eats the lemon

tried to bake with bitty one time but he got too excited and cracked an egg in his hand... is now banned from baking with bitty

一本风靡美国70年的英文中餐菜谱，附菜名翻译一览

今天介绍一本最早的英文中餐菜谱——《中国食谱 - How to cook and eat in Chinses》，一本风靡美国70年的中国菜谱！

1945年出版时就是英文版。学翻译的小伙伴不妨看看这篇文章涨涨知识。

先来说说这本神奇的菜谱——《中国食谱 - How to cook and eat in Chinses》，作者杨步伟。

菜名和菜谱

这本菜谱兼容南北，既有大肉也有小菜，面食，火锅，大部分都是寻常家里饭桌上能见到的。也有"炒蒲公英"，"涨蛋"，"橘羹"这些我闻所未闻的。

这些菜谱详细到所有配料的精确配比，分量，解释起饮食习俗来也深入浅出，这是中国人所不习惯的表达方式，却也是它能在西方迅速被接受的重要原因。

另外，值得一提的是，书里的示意图很像老教科书里的生物解剖图，但因为解释的是滚刀切的技巧，握筷子的手势，显得严谨又很可爱。

正如胡适的预测，stir-fry等词在现在的中餐馆和烹饪教材里随处可见，却没想过最初的翻译就出自这本书。

《中国食谱 - How to cook and eat in Chinses》，作者杨步伟。杨步伟，一个地道的中国女人。光绪十五年出生。小时候家里人叫她"小三少爷"，调皮贪玩，她说自己天不怕地不怕就只怕鬼，和家里长辈，私塾老师斗智斗勇，拔马尾巴的毛，还打过黎元洪的屁股，十几岁才换了女装。

后和赵元任结婚，育有一女。杨步伟当过女校校长，后来赴日学医，加入过同盟会，又创建医院，开过饭馆，又办清华进城的公交车，又做过手提包卖，后来相夫教子之余写了很多书，其中还有一本风靡欧美几十年的中国菜谱。

这本菜谱是在康奈尔的图书馆偶然被发现的。1945年出版时就是英文版，杨步伟说自己英文一般，这本书是自己写中文版，女儿帮忙翻译，丈夫修改而来的。

她在前言介绍说自己也是伴着"优雅的女人不进厨房的观念"长大的，出国前甚至没有打过一颗蛋，但因为留学期间不喜欢日本菜才学了做菜。学习的方式就是 with an open mind and an open mouth (敢想敢吃敢问)。

胡适作序时说，杨步伟和女儿一起创造的一些新词或术语，终于可以贴切地向外国人解释中国烹饪技艺，比如"Stir-fry"(炒),"Meeting"(烩),"Plunging"(蘸)，大胆预测的话，这也可能对英语词汇产生重要的贡献。

赛珍珠作序说，作为一个不熟悉中国食材和饮食习惯的外国人(其实赛珍珠算大半个中国人)，她通过这种结合了西方生活经验的菜谱写作方式，终于开始了解具体怎么烹饪中餐，和中餐烹饪技巧的精华所在。

民国第一美食博主

《How to cook and eat in Chinese》再版了二十多次，也被翻译成十几种语言。虽然今天的菜谱已经不拘泥于图片和文字，甚至不少美食教程视频都拍的美轮美奂，但杨��生在我心里却是当之无愧的民国美食"博主"第一人。

她说，"美国的烤栗子永远不好吃。有的裂口，有的太生，这是加热不均匀且断断续续导致的。中国的栗子是在沙子里炒的。不断搅动热沙子，这样栗子四面八方的温度都合宜。最后，栗仁又软又香，像是烤得恰到好处的地瓜一样。"

胡适说，"她的几百张菜谱，正如这张用沙子炒栗子的菜谱一样，是无数节俭朴素、心灵手巧的男女思考和尝试的结晶。它们如今被准确地记录在这里，是为了让所有愿意思考和尝试的人获益并感到快乐。"

下面翻译摘录部分她的总结。

中餐的形式

"我们习惯菜佐饭，和美国正好相反，而不是面包佐菜。中国小孩总是喜欢多吃菜少吃饭，就像美国人一样，但其实多吃米饭才会被视作乖巧而有礼貌的行为。"

"湖南，安徽等地通常习惯吃三餐，每餐都有白饭，其他地方早餐会更简单一些，比如把米煮粥，很多外国人去东方以前都没吃过。还有一些地方习惯吃两餐，两餐之间会夹着几次点心，晚上还会有宵夜。比如广东的一些餐馆就会以午茶做的好而出名。"

"参加宴会的时候在别人夹了菜以后动筷子才是礼貌的，主人为了避免礼让尴尬可以在开餐的时候主动给客人夹菜。"

"饭后吃水果是欧洲传来的习惯，中国人是习惯于在两道菜之间吃水果的。"

把中国展示给世界的人

虽然只是一本食谱，赛珍珠却说它值得诺贝尔奖，因为它第一次系统地让美国人知道了中国菜到底是什么味道。

文化的冲击浸透在生活的各个角落，味蕾的感受最能让人记住。他们初到美国，在接受西方异奇的同时用一种直接易懂的方式表达了一句--"这是我们的真故乡味"。

赵元任曾经走遍大半个中国研究各地方言，后来又在加州大学伯克利分校教授中国语文和语言学。这本《中国食谱》在欧美各国流传，是上世纪很多厨师，餐厅老板和家庭主妇的必读书，去年还出版了中文译本。把中国展示给世界的人还有好多好多，今天写下这篇文章是为分享这本有意思的"中国味"，也为向他们致敬。

另，杨布伟的三本书里都有赵元任的批注，或补充或感慨，有时候他们一来二去还会在批注里斗嘴，在我看来是最默契的生活情趣。

金婚的时候，杨步伟在庆祝宴上赋诗:"吵吵闹闹五十年，人人都说好姻缘。元任今生欠我业，颠倒阴阳再团圆。"赵元任也和诗一首:"阴阳颠倒又团圆，犹似当年蜜蜜甜。男女平权新世纪，同偕造福为人间。"

最后我又找了一些菜名的翻译供小伙伴参考，下次再遇到老外问这些菜名的翻译，直接甩出英文，让他们惊艳吧，拿走不谢噢~

“Adam, honey?”

The words, caught on the artificial breeze of the air conditioner, flutter through the living room slowly. It takes the span of three breaths for them to finally come to rest on Adam’s back as he lays in the middle of the room, face pressed into the antique rug. It’s scratchy and musty and not at all comfortable, but this is what he does when he’s upset. Usually Bitty is here to rub his back and make him feel better, but today it’s just him and Judy.

The words are light but Holster can still feel the gentle pressure, knowing he has to respond. Before he can muster up the words he his stepmother’s feet come into his field of vision, her bright Lilly Pulitzer capris almost blinding in the late afternoon light.

“Hey, Jude.” He mumbles into the carpet. On any other day he’d sing it like he normally does, but on this, the day of his Wallowing, he can’t even muster up the energy to sing. Judy makes a disapproving noise and primly kneels down on the carpet next to him. She places her hand on his head and begins to comb through his hair like she used to when he was twelve and terrified of the strange new world of sweet tea and tupelo honey he’d been suddenly forced into.

The gentle grumbling of the air conditioner is the only sound in the room for a long moment, until Judy speaks. “Do you think four dozen brownies will be enough, or do you want another batch? And don’t you worry, sugar, I already made some for Justin so he won’t try to steal yours. You’ll give him my love, won’t you?”

It’s those words, unassuming and kind in Judy’s southern drawl, that sends him over the edge. Holster rolls over and sits up suddenly, settling cross legged with his back to his mother. He stares down at the carpet, picking at the intricate pattern of red and black and blue. He doesn’t want to see her face when he says this; he’ll limit himself to the image of just one mother’s disappointment, thank you very much.

“I think I - ” Adam swallows down the lump in his throat, shaking his head once, then once more to clear his mind. “I know I love him. I want to be with him, and there’s no way he’ll ever want to be with me because he can’t because he’s - he’s straight.” He closes his eyes, sucking in a quick breath before he ruins them forever. “He’s straight and I’m…not. I’m bi. Sexual. Bisexual.”

The words settle between them, too heavy to be caught in the air conditioner’s flow. He can feel the moment they settle onto the floor, pulling the entire house down with their weight.

“So you’ll definitely need something else besides brownies.” Judy’s voice cuts through the fear that’s dragging him down, and he turns suddenly in surprise. She moves closer, scooting forward on her knees, and reaches out to cup his cheek. “I’m sorry you’re hurting, sugar. But loving someone isn’t ever something to be ashamed of. Now stand on up; this deserves a cake.” Judy pats his cheek and pulls him up, only managing to pull him into the kitchen because of his state of shock.

The next thing Holster knows he’s holding two bundt pans, a cookie sheet, and various bakeware as Judy sorts through the cabinets in her search for the exact pan she has in mind. He knows he should drop it - Judy’s given him an out if he doesn’t want to talk about it, but…Adam’s never been particularly skilled at keeping his mouth shut.

“I thought you’d be disappointed.” He blurts out, just when Judy sets a cupcake pan on top of his stack with a clank.

She turns away to climb up on the kitchen counter, reaching for the very back of the cabinet. “Well, I am, a little.” Holster’s stomach drops. It’s happening again. It’s happening again and he was ready for it a minute ago and now he’s not. His face falls just in time for Judy to see when she turns back around. “Oh, no! No, no, Adam, no. That’s not what I meant!” She climbs down and hurries over to him, removing the metal sheets from his hands. “I’m so sorry, honey. I meant that I’m disappointed things won’t work out between you two.” She pulls him in for a fierce hug, gathering him up with all the strength in her small body.

“You listen to me, Adam Birkholtz. No one in this house will ever be disappointed in you, you hear?” She shakes him until he nods, then shakes him some more until he kisses her cheek and smiles. “Now put those pans away and we’ll make you that cake. Lemon and blueberry okay?”

“Thanks, Juju.” If his voice is a little rough, Judy doesn’t say anything. She glides past him, pressing carton of blueberries into his hands even though they both know she’s going to have to take them away in a couple minutes so he stops eating them. A cake won’t make him love Ransom any less, but later that night, when the house still smells like lemon and sugar, it’s what helps him amble downstairs to settle next to his father on the couch as he watches football.

Jacob wordlessly tosses him the remote, and Holster flips over to the NHL channel where the Sharks are playing the Coyotes, even though he already knows the score of the game since Chowder has sent updates to the SMH groupchat several times each period. He’s not watching it for the game so much as the backdrop of sound, hoping the familiar clacking and scraping will ease him into a relaxed enough state to say what he needs to say. He swallows once, twice, and blurts out, “I’m bi, dad.”

The whistle blows and play ceases, the player's’ momentum carrying them around the rink in swooping circles.

“I know,” Jacob says, reaching out to wrap his arm around Adam’s shoulders. He drags him down, until Holster’s head is resting on his shoulder. “I always figured you liked Henrik Lundqvist a little too much.”

Holster laughs, weakly punching his father’s arm. “Why didn’t you think I was gay, then?” Jacob chuckles, the motion tilting the room in little bursts as his head is jostled.

“Tina Fey.” Jacob says, like it’s the most obvious thing in the world, and it probably is. Holster lets out the breath he didn’t know he was holding, the knot of tension he’s been carrying around finally beginning to unravel. The puck is dropped and play resumes, and he can feel the buzzing of his phone in his pocket - probably Chowder contesting the penalty.

They watch the rest of the game in a companionable silence, speaking only to grumble about bad calls and sing along with the analysis show’s jingle in perfect harmony.

Garden of Eatin’

Y’all....I can’t eat these tomatoes fast enough. I didn’t plant enough to start stewing and freezing, but there are too dang many for one girl to eat. I brought these in when I went out to harvest basil and rosemary.

The mister isn’t a fan of just slicing and eating, which is my favorite way to enjoy a tomato, but one can only make so many tomato dishes, taco salads,etc before you get sick of it. He ran down to see his mother over the weekend and I loaded him up with tomatoes for her. Just sharin’ the love. Anyway, before I take a break to make a tomato sandwich, stuff a tomato with tuna salad, or bake a tomato frittata let’s talk about those herbs. The basil had turned into a shrub and the rosemary was as determined. I hacked down a bunch and brought it in to wash and store.

The rosemary I’ll dry, the basil has been turned into PESTO! I love a good pesto. Lucky for me it also freezes well so I’ll be able to pull out the fresh taste of summer on a dreary winter day. It’s so stinkin’ easy to make. I made small batches because it was easier for me to handle in my space, and when the last bit was scraped out of the food processor I was dreaming of linguine and shrimp with pesto which is exactly what I plan to make tonight.

It didn’t take any time at all - just toasted some pine nuts...

Zested a lemon and minced some garlic...

Grated a little parmesan, then threw everything in to grind up while drizzling in olive oil. That’s it.

Mmmm, smells delicious!

I’ve also got a bumper crop of parsley growing in the flower bed by the front steps. I grabbed a handful last week and made Chicken Francaise, so good! It’s a simple dish that packs big flavor - just chicken stock, white wine, garlic, lemon, and parsley. The chicken is pounded thinnish, floured and egged and sauteed. The pan is deglazed with the liquids which thicken into a scrumptious sauce. The secret is a chunk of butter rolled in flour that is tossed in while it bubbles. My thighs ate that up. I mean, it’s not like you’re drinking a cup of the sauce. I served this with wild rice and a side salad (gotta use those tomatoes) and the mister gave it two thumbs up.

So lately I’m just pulling stuff out of the yard and putting it on the table. Wish I’d planted corn. I probably shouldn’t say anything because I’ll jinx it, but I have pumpkin plants up! Anything could happen - squash bugs, squirrels, a drought. But right now those itty bitty green plants are providing daydreams of autumn and I’m pinning all of my hopes on them. They have given me joy in the middle of the summer doldrums. No pressure, little guys. Mickey flew off to California this morning and I’m knocking around the house debating whether to be responsible and do some chores or binge murder shows. I suppose I could fold laundry while watching murder. I love a good compromise. I did get in a bit of gardening this morning so that counts. By gardening I mean I pulled three weeds and then followed butterflies and bees around. I snapped these photos...

before taking a break to pet some bees. I love rubbing their fuzzy backs and they seem to like it too. Mickey teases me because we have a Scale of Stupidity that we use which includes things like Tiger Petters, Shark Kissers, Bear Huggers - you’ve seen the news stories, man tries to kiss shark and is shocked when it doesn’t go well, that sort of thing. Personally I don’t think bee petting belongs on that scale. So I sent him this text (and then charged my phone).

And he responded perfectly. He acknowledged my relationship with the bees and then complimented my nail polish. Ladies, do I have the best husband or what? Gentlemen, take note - accept our quirks and pay us a compliment now and then, it’s really that simple. Bonus points if you can admire our quirks. I sure love every weird little thing about him. On that note I think I’ll go eat something from the yard and fondle an insect. Situation normal here at the Pullen spread. Love ya’! XOXO
