Now that the season is over and everyone is released from the constraints of the bake off tent, things need to be discussed.

The final highlighted an epidemic within bake off that has honestly been growing ever since it moved out of the BBC.

Which is that bakers are never given enough time to complete the tasks set for each challenge. 

Challenges get ridiculous and more difficult year after year as if they are trying to one-up the year before (which is not what bake off is about). 

The judges have become very subjective in their judgments. It is very biased and not at all fair and cohesive.

The hosting has felt very stagnant and the hosts (mainly Matt Lucas) fail to deliver on their entire purpose which is to uplift the spirits of the bakers. The hosts help set the entire tone of the show for the bakers themselves apart from when their bakes are being judged by Paul and Prue. Their “comedy” and their dialogue has really fallen flat and so instead of being lighthearted, they contribute to making the atmosphere even more stressed and tense. 

This is not a professional baking competition. This is not Masterchef 2.0. This should be a celebration of home bakers. And its veering further and further from that core purpose.

Everything essential to home baking which is flavor and flavor only is being overshadowed by all of these other criteria. They are being judged on creating dishes that they have never made before and will never replicate in a million years at home. 

What value is this serving?

You are not teaching them any valuable skills to take home and use with their families - simple things they can make in a short period of time that will taste delicious.

Instructions for the technical never include essential information and the judges just expect them to know all of these niche details- completely forgetting that they are all AMATEUR BAKERS who bake at HOME and who have busy lives. 

Baking is their hobby, it is a love language, it is not their career.

It is increasingly evident that Bake Off is setting up their contestants to fail and purposefully creating situations that bring out the bakers’ stress and anxiety.

I don’t watch bake off to see people fall apart over cake. I find no enjoyment in watching them struggle.

Bake Off has remained special to me because of the atmosphere between the bakers. The baker community.

I love it for the fact that the bakers are never competing against each other truly and help each other out at any given moment. The warm cozy vibes. 

That spirit is not found in any other baking show. Period. It is unique and so precious.

But that spirit is being overshadowed by the rotten framework of this new Bake Off.

There needs to be a fundamental restructuring of Bake Off before it loses everything that makes it special.

I know you all couldn't care less, but this has been my one joy the past 3 ish months and tonight I witnessed Billie making history by winning Masterchef Australia for the second time.

She is such a power house of a woman, I was super impressed with her the first time she won, I remember her powering through that last challenge like it was nobody's business. And this season she just... I am in awe.

Billie McKay is a true role model.

I was thinking. As an oldest child myself, I suffer from oldest child syndrome.

Now, anyone who has been following my blog lately knows that I’ve been kinning Victor lately. This got me thinking.

Frankenstein Spoilers in the following explanation

Victor has two younger siblings biologically, plus Elizabeth— a sister figure. Out of these four, he is the oldest.

When thinking about Victor, his defining personality traits (other than sopping wet and pathetic) are anxious, perfectionistic, solitary, obsessive, a little egotistical, etc etc.

Funny thing is, all of these traits are associated with eldest child syndrome. Typically, these are brought on by high parental expectations. Now, as a C*roline and Al*ones hater, it’s pretty obvious that their expectations for Victor were a little much. I mean, Caroline’s dying wish was to control Victor’s love life. Alphonse preserved this wish, even reminding Victor of this said wish while he is recovering from his arrest and death of his closest friend. Alphonse and Caroline are also probably homophobic, I will not be taking criticism at this time.

That being said, there’s almost no question as to why Victor hardly talks to his family in Ingolstadt. Why he obsesses over his work, freaks out when it’s not up to his standards, abandons the paternal role he’s been forced into all his life. Also explains why he’s only miserable when it comes to marrying Elizabeth, and doesn’t argue about it at all. And why he’s so close to Clerval, someone who genuinely seems to care for his opinions and wishes.

I dunno. It’s definitely a theory that should be thought into.

My #1 post of 2022

So I saw a post that kind of made me want to post this.

I feel like there’s a lot of gatekeeping in the J&H fandom. I’ve see a lot of posts like “you’re wrong if you like TGS” “you’re not valid in the fandom if you interpret the duality differently” “we don’t stan if you think Jekyll is cis.”

It feels really toxic, imo. I interpret the story differently than others, and that’s fine. A lot of the story is really open ended and up for interpretation. Specifically with the second point with the duality, I’ve seen hate on the “Jekyll has OCD” interpretation on here in the past, and like? Why?

While that’s personally the interpretation I choose to agree with, that’s not what I’m talking about in this post. There’s really no need to hate on seeing the book differently. As with most other fandoms, you’re not looking at the big picture. There’s a group of people who enjoy the same media as you, and you’re really just going to trash their opinions?

I dunno. I don’t really have a solid point I’m getting at. It just pisses me off. I have a lot of opinions about the book that I’m afraid to share, and I’m sure tons of others do too.

Please be nice y’all. It’s not like Stevenson is coming back from the grave to confirm any interpretation is right.

Yarışmacılar ilk hafta eleme potasında olmaktan hoşnut olmadıklarını dile getirdiler. Daha sonra şefler eleme adaylarına siyah sarımsak ürününü verdi ve onlardan bu ürünü kullanarak yaratıcı yemekler yapmalarını istedi. İLK TUR! En başarılı tabağı yapan yarışmacılar Büşra, Gamze ve Dilan oldu. İKİNCİ TUR! Geriye kalan üç yarışmacı Şeyma, Fatmanur ve Kaan ise, ikinci tur için tekrar mutfağa girdi ve son şanslarını iyi değerlendirmek için mücadele verdi. Somer şef, kendi özel yemeği olan kadayıflı karides yemeğini yarışmacılara tanıttı ve ondan sonra onlardan bu yemeğe en yakın yemeği yapmalarını istedi. Verilen süre 40 dakika oldu. MasterChef’te 3. Takım Oyununu Hangi Takım Kazandı? Haftanın 5. Ve 6. Eleme Adayları Kimler Oldu? Verilen süre içinde Şeyma bazı aksilikler yaşadı. Fatmanur ise, balığın içine şişi yerleştirmeyi unuttu. Sürenin bitmesiyle şefler, yemeklerin tadımlarını yaptı. ELENEN YARIŞMACI KİM OLDU? Son turun en başarılı yemeğini yapan yarışmacı Kaan oldu. Geriye Fatmanur ile Şeyma kaldı.
