I just listened to an audio book this morning where it was a hockey romance and the guy used to play for the Stanley Cup winning Phoenix team until he got injured and then got asked to be a coach with the Pittsburgh team and the entire time I was reading it I'm like "ren !!!!!"

The day I get to go to a Cup Parade here in Phoenix is the day I combust. Also 10/10 joke on Mike Sullivan being a former PHX player and going on to coach the PIT team 😂

I believe you did some Penguin flight tracking before, so stupid question: did the Pens fly to Montreal last night?

They played in Arizona last night and their next game is tomorrow at home. So I was expecting them to fly from PHX to PIT last night, or at the latest this morning.

Well, so far, there have been no iAero flights from PHX to PIT. However, the flight number that I expected to be used (the Pens' flight numbers have been predictable all season), was used last night. The plane took off from PHX. The takeoff time is consistent with other postgame flights. Everything seems to match, except the end destination: Montreal.

By last reports, Kris is in Montreal. But the Pens have a game in Pittsburgh tomorrow. There's no way they made an international flight to Montreal last night?

It does indeed look like they did! On the past legs of this particular road trip, the Penguins have used the aircraft N314XA and the flight numbers SWQ3334 (PIT -> BOS, 12/31/22), SWQ3335 (two legs: BOS -> SLN, SLN -> LAS, 1/03/23), and SWQ3336 (LAS -> PHX, 1/06/23). Flight SWQ3337 on aircraft N314XA departed from PHX to YHU at 11pm EST last night, and the leg from YHU to PIT later today is also scheduled as SWQ3337. Given the timing, consistency in flight number, and use of the same aircraft, it seems highly unlikely these two flights would be anyone else.

As to why, we can make guesses (most likely something to do with certain tragic circumstances) but I don’t know for sure. It sure is unusual; I’m not seeing anything on team or reporter socials, so today was likely planned as an off day. Regardless, it’s definitely interesting.

1st Quarter Not a good start for the Mystics. They look a bit tired mentally and physically. Shots aren't falling but defensive intensity is up, led by Atkins. Some light whistles early shakes head. 3s catching us up now. These soft whistles on both ends are keeping the energy low. And Karlie already has three personals. Mercury with a slim lead 20-22.

2nd Quarter Refs still ruining the vibe. It's not that they are outright wrong but they could absolutely let em play through. It's getting ridiculous. No true point guard on the floor for DC and the offense is not going well. Vanloo comes in and hits a 3, her third. Eric needs a timeout because we're lost on O. Meanwhile the Mercury have back to back 3s. We have given it away about 4 possessions in a row. Make that 5. Both teams playing as though the ball is slippery. We squeeze a few makes and get it to 40-43.

3rd Quarter Stef opens the quarter with a 3 (her third of three). DT has been off from 3 today, otherwise this would be a blowout. Getting a lil chippy. Kah off to the tunnel :( It's really strange that we can't take advantage of the size differential. BG is not on the floor and we're not earning ground under the hoop—most of the time we're not even trying to? Due credit to Natasha Mack though. Timeout DC with a 9-pt spread. Stef getting some tough foul calls. She has 4. Kah back in. I hate this Earl/Tash faceoff it's wrong. Also it's a 15-0 run for PHX :'( Jade Melbourne coming in for DC. Shatori foolishly left alone for the 3. Next possession she gets a Chelsea Gray Falling Over And-1™. Another 3 and Shatori alone has cut the lead to 6. Liz Dixon has been a force on D. Lead back up to 11 for the Mercury. Make that 14… We need a hero. 58-70

4th Quarter Hines-Allen winning the space under the hoop—more of that please. And she delivers! More more! It took too long for an offensive adjustment. This is a slog. It's a 10-pt game with 2 minutes left. Shatori makes it 7. 3-pt game with 34 seconds but the Mercury have possession. We lose 80-83.
