En la Ribera del Duero y a poco más de veinte kilómetros de Aranda, Peñaranda es una villa señorial y recia, pero tranquila; se nota que fue importante paseando por sus calles a las que asoman escudos de rancio abolengo

En su caserío, que se extiende en torno a la calle Real y a la elegante plaza del Duque, hay casonas nobles como el palacio de Avellaneda, viviendas tradicionales de piedra y adobe, una iglesia imponente –la de Santa Ana–, restos de la muralla que la protegía, una botica del siglo XVII y un castillo en lo alto se remonta a la época en la que árabes y cristianos se disputaban las orillas del Duero.

There is a new exhibition called 'La Moda en la Casa de Alba/The Fashion in the House of Alba' at Palacio de Liria in Madrid from October 19th to March 31st. It covers two centuries of the family through their fashion with designs by Charles Frederick Worth, Louise Chéruit, Cristóbal Balenciaga, Flora Villareal, Manuel Pertegaz, and Enmanuel Húngaro. The exhibition includes dresses worn by Empress Eugénie of France, also the Countess of Montijo, and the wedding dresses of Cayetana Fitz-James Stuart, 18th Duchess of Alba, Eugenia Martínez de Irujo, 12th Duchess of Montoro, and Sofía Palazuelo Barroso, Duchess of Huéscar. There are no jewels on display due to security concerns and the cost of insuring them but I noticed in the background of one of the pictures is a portrait of the Duchess of Huéscar wearing the Alba Strawberry Leaf Coronet.

It looks like it was part of the same photo session as the portrait that was found to be on display at Palacio de las Dueñas in Seville in January.

I need to see a better quality picture of Sofia wearing the tiara!

Strawberry leaf ducal-style coronets are very popular amongst Spanish nobility. The one is made of emeralds, diamonds, and pearls and was supposedly a gift from Empress Eugénie to her sister, María Francisca de Sales de Palafox Portocarrero y Kirkpatrick, 16th Duchess of Peñaranda de Duero, wife of the 15th Duke of Alba. Here it is worn by María del Rosario Falcó y Osorio, 21st Countess of Siruela, and María del Rosario de Silva y Gurtubay, 9th Marchioness of San Vicente del Barco, wives of the 16th and 17th Dukes respectively.

Of course it was most famously worn by María del Rosario Cayetana Fitz-James Stuart y Silva, 18th Duchess of Alba, and most titled person in the world before she passed away in 2014.

¡UN RIBERA DEL DUERO DE ALTURA (950 m.), RODEADO DE BOSQUE! 🔥🔥🔥 BOSQUE DE MATASNOS 2019. 🍷 Ribera del Duero D.O. Peñaranda de Duero. (Burgos) 🇪🇸 Elaborado por Bodegas Bosque de Matasnos @bosquedematasnos ¡Gran trabajo! 👏👏👏 🍇 Tempranillo 94%, Merlot 4% y Malbec 2%. De viñedos de altura (1.000 m.). Crianza de 12 meses 🗓️ en barricas de roble de 225 y 500 litros. El 70% nuevas, y el 30% usadas. 👀 Color rojo, brillante e intenso. Capa alta. 👃 Frutas rojas y negras muy marcadas. Notas de pimienta, terroso. 👄 Sabroso, largo y persistente. Frutal. Recuerdos a coco y vainilla. Muy agradable. ✅ Un vino muy cuidado, en todo su proceso. Con maduraciones muy lentas debido a las condiciones climáticas en las que se cultivan las uvas. ✅ Muy peculiar. María Francisca de Sales "Paca" de Palafox Portocarrero y Kirkpatrick, 16th Duchess of Peñaranda de Duero (29 January 1825 – 16 September 1860), also known as Paca de Alba, was a Spanish noblewoman and the sister of Eugénie de Montijo, Empress of the French. She was the 16th Duchess of Peñaranda de Duero in her own right and a Grandee of Spain, and she inherited many other titles from her father. She was also Duchess of Alba by virtue of her marriage to Jacobo Fitz-James Stuart, 15th Duke of Alba.
