Later revised and annotated for Transformers: Seeds of Deception
wada sez: For whatever reason, after appearing in the earlier Mosaic strip “Replacement”, Shockwave’s Action Master partner Fistfight became something of a running joke for the Seeds of Deception team. Huerta is credited specifically with the WALL-E joke. See below for clean art, Villa’s usual Italian translation, and a preview of tomorrow’s comic.

wada sez: The Circle is a nightclub established in Spotlight: Blurr; a comment on the Seeds of Deception account implies Villa independently came up with the name and this is actually an unrelated location. On the wall, there’s a bas-relief of an “ancient Prime”; see below for a full-size version of that, along with Villa’s usual Italian translation.

Transformers: Mosaic - "The Genie Has Left The Bottle"

Later revised and annotated for Transformers: Seeds of Deception
wada sez: The concluding entry in the trilogy told across “Dark Auspices” and “Evening The Odds”. With Blaster’s appearance here, we note that Maccagni has been drawing these characters with a more feminine appearance than normal. On deviantART, one of the project leads (presumably Villa) commented, “It's Marco's style...he likes to make the Transformers look less genderless, even if in this continuity they are genderless.” See below for clean colors and the Italian translation.

Later revised and annotated for Transformers: Seeds of Deception
wada sez: Basically, this strip is one of many Seeds of Deception stories that exists entirely to reconcile inconsistencies between The War Within and Furman’s later IDW work; in this case, the prevalence of combiner teams in The War Within versus the near-total absence of combiners in IDW. Turns out, everyone forgot! See the original annotations at the link above for more specific details beyond that.

wada sez: This strip is set towards the end of Maximum Dinobots. Buzzsaw repurposes his mold-mate Laserbeak’s design from The War Within, itself based on the character’s Cybertronian look from the original cartoon. Among other small lettering changes, the revised version corrected a minor error where Mount St. Helens was stated to be in Oregon, when in fact it’s situated in Washington. Preview and Italian version below.

Transformers: Mosaic #605 - "A New Beginning"

deviantART | Seibertron | TFW2005
Later revised and annotated for Transformers: Seeds of Deception
wada sez: I think this could be the worst Mosaic ever made. Where Simon Reeves’ prior strip “The Shape Of Things To Come” was a tasteless extrapolation from the already-problematic Spotlight: Arcee, Koen Luyten goes even further into outright fetishization. At the time, Luyten had a weekly series called Arcee In Wonderland, which inhabited similar territory; it can now only be found on the Seeds of Deception gallery itself, having been deleted from Luyten’s own page. This strip casts the GoBots character Crasher as a trans woman whose state of being is karmic punishment for a sinful life. The closing note in particular drives me crazy—Luyten and Villa seem to want to imply that she’ll be an object of adoration simply for the very fact of her womanhood. Man, what a mean-spirited, bitterly shameful, misogynistic piece of work this is. The notes for the Seeds of Deception publication of the comic talk at length about its use of the word “orgies”, which was apparently censored for the Mosaic release—but so far as I can tell, the word doesn’t appear in the comic at all; it’s possible the Seeds of Deception version was later quietly updated to match the Mosaic one. See below for an Italian translation of this strip, I guess, and a little preview of tomorrow’s. God, imagine being an Italian Transformers fan learning that a bunch of Mosaics got translated into your language, but only the ones Villa worked on—what an absolute monkey’s paw situation.

wada sez: Vortex as a sadistic torturer was established in his Budiansky bio. I'm reasonably sure that's Smokescreen's IDW design from Spotlight: Blaster, and I think Vortex might've been drawn with specific reference to one panel of Spotlight: Arcee, but neglecting to take into account other views from different panels. Martin would later revisit the events of this strip in “Screening”, so stay tuned for that one. Clean art below.
