Literally nothing there he hasn't seen before. #Granted it was a few years back and before he was left to stew in his feelings. #LWJ is more focused on his pride than being responsible and reasonable (getting is wounds treated). #His arc really is about accepting that he can't be perfect. That there is importance in being honest and vulnerable. #The tragedy is that he realizes this way too late. #Pride is the worst sin because it destroys your ability to protect anything other than the smallest crown in the world. #When everyone is gone and you are left alone - was it worth it to feel safe and protected from showing your flaws? #Control over oneself is in conflict with connection to others. You cannot pick both. #Hanguang-jun appears to us as a 'perfect guy' but the truth is that he is the version of LWJ who is done with *needing* that validation. #And this time - He can properly reach out to those he wants to be close with.

PHYSICAL APPEARANCE

Age: 17-18

Eye Color: Super dark brown, nearly black.      Glasses or contacts? Nope.

Hair color: Black      Type of hair (coarse, fine, thick, etc?) Thick, but not coarse. It’s smooth like silk when you brush it, which she rarely does. 

Typical hairstyle: She likes to wear it in a long braid, but with two little face-framing tufts at her jawline

     Type of body/build: The shortest of the group. Not chubby, but... dense? muscular. Weighs a lot more than Kari even though Kari is bigger physically.

Skin tone: light East Asian skin tone. Tan, I guess, but with cool undertones. 

Scars? Only superficial ones in the beginning. But holy shit, does she get fucked up.

Is s/he healthy?     No.                                                  If not, why not: She’s got a monster trying to get out of her and she could start to bleed to death at any moment. And there’s the ever present risk of the monster breaking through her skin, too, and killing her.

Physical disabilities: Gold-rooted arms and torso

Physical abilities (what is character good at? sports, etc.): She was pretty strong, but she’s limited by her injury--moving wrong and producng more bleeding could kill her.

Favorite Color: Red

Favorite Food: Coffee, no sugar. She also likes egg dishes, and most vegetables. Fish are good too.

Smokes: No

Drinks: Coffee all day all the time, and tea! But only black tea.she does’t like fruit teas, but she likes some flowers. Jasmine is good. 

Worst bad habit? She makes decisions without thinking, trusting her instincts. Like, “the first thought you had was probably the best and that’s why it came to you first”

BACKGROUND

Type of childhood: She hated school. She was smart, but bored. She mostly took care of herself, with her dad gone and her mom potentially having drug problems, Ruby left to pursue the one thing she loved and was good at--tea making. And she went to Idris because he’s the best.

Most important childhood event that still affects him/her: Lamo the events of the book are the most important childhood event because it’s a coming of age story.

Booksmart or streetsmart? More streetsmart

Religion and/or religious views and/or tendencies? Obviously believes in rebirth lmao

ATTITUDE

Greatest fear: Not succeeding enough to escape her previous situation. If she’s not the best of the best tea makers and Idris chooses to end her contract after the internship, she has to go home to.... well, her home life. So she works very hard and takes it very seriously. It’s her ticket out.

What single event would most throw character’s life in complete turmoil? Lol the events of the story tbh.

Character is most at ease when: She’s free to explore. Time constraints stress her out

Most ill at ease when: obviously when she’s cracking and bleeding out lol

Priorities: Save the world > protect Kari and Leora > the rest

How s/he feels about self: She knows that she’s making this big sacrifice and she’s terrified, but she feels like if she admits she’s scared, then it’ll look like she’s saying she’d rather have the whole world destroyed than to go through this, so she keeps it to herself

Past failure s/he would be embarrassed to have people know about: Fighting with Kari that spurred all of the monster shit.

If granted one wish, what would it be? To have Idris adopt her as his next in line to run the tea shop.  

Daredevil or cautious? Daredevil.      Same when alone? Not as much, but yes.

She tends to step back and let Kari handle it--she’s surprising not good in a pinch. which, WHUMP WRITERS READ HERE, means that it’s lucky for her that Kari is always the one taking care of her during the gold filling, because if Kari were sick or hurt, she would have no clue what to do.

How does character face problems? HEAD ON. READY OR NOT. 

How does character react to change? She’s never had anything worth getting tied down to so she likes it just fine.

What does s/he do too much of? she loves to cook. She also trains to fight quite a lot.

Too little of? meditating. Kari meditates a lot, and she keeps meaning to join her.

Play musical instrument? She plays some kind of stringy thing? and a few more that rarely come up.

Any pets? No :( I thought about giving the group a rabbit at one point? one who was a human and had used sorcery to turn himself into a rabbit and now can’t switch back. but I took it out because I hated it.

Person character secretly admires: She admires Leora for keeping the group together, and Kari, for watching these memories and dealing with these adult emotions as a child.

Person character was most influenced by: Kari’s uncle Idris took her in t that crucial time in a poor kid’s life when their parents aren’t around and they need structure. Most join gangs--she was lucky enough to find a kindly tea shop owner.

Most important person in character’s life before story starts: Oh, Idris no question. He’s the father she never had.
