#Tim's keeping an eye on a seperate monitor

I feel like I've complained about Tim's email situation in Gotham Knights before (edit: I have), but the truth of it is just so funny.
He's signed up for so many podcasts, video game streamers, and random news alerts; it's just a constant barrage of data going straight into his constantly whirring brain. Hell, he even floats the idea of the Batfamily having their own podcast as a way to correct misinformation about them (which Jason shoots down instantly), and it's made me realize something.
Timothy Drake would be a YouTuber.
In this universe specifically, Timothy Jackson Drake, the heir to Drake Industries and the foster son of the late Bruce Wayne would be a YouTuber.
Think about it. It'd be the perfect cover. Who would ever suspect that some 16-year-old nepo baby with a YouTube channel could ever be Red Robin? You'd have to be mad. I mean, look at him.
Red Robin just dropped out of literal thin air and garotted someone four times his size, and you expect anyone to believe that's the same kid who does 24-hour Minecraft charity streams and occasionally drops 6-hour video essays (his last one was on Lex Luthor's illegal bit mining operation on the moon)?
That kid?
You think that kid is Red Robin?
Ch'yah, okay, sure. And the Joker is funny 馃ぁ.

Securing The Studio
Most people will build a Garden Studio as an office, gym, recording studio, games room etc. This means that the building is likely housing equipment or objects that might be of value.
The Studio is no different and therefore I wanted to secure it as much as possible. However, as the old saying goes, if they want to get in, they'll get in.
So despite The Studio having modern bi-fold doors and locking systems, I still felt I wanted some reassurance that the building was secure.
The motion activated light are a good start. They are sensitive enough to pick up Maisie (our dog) having a sniff around at night, and light up the area pretty well. But I can't keep an eye out on the building all the time and so I wanted a video monitoring system that I could trust.
I've been using Blink for many years. I backed them as a Kickstarter project quite a few years back, and then they were acquired by Amazon. Blink provide a series of solutions to fit most needs and I find that the app is really easy to use.
The system uses a little Blink hub (to synchronise the cameras and to manage the cloud storage of your content) and is not limited to 1 hub per system (unlike Hive) which means as long as you have wifi coverage, you can place a sync box remotely to the house (which is where a lot of garden studios are). Hubs can be bought seperately, but are included if you buy a system so you shouldn't need to buy one unless you are looking to expand your system or need a replacement (although see my note below).
Tumblr media
In my house I have 3 hubs managing 3 distinct areas, and 1 hub in the studio, exclusively for the studio. All cameras work with the hubs. and you can mix indoor and outdoor cameras on each hub.
Each hub and their attached cameras are given their own zone in the app so it's easy to switch between the zones.
Tumblr media
Zones can be scheduled to arm and disarm whenever you want and each camera has a wealth of variables that can be set including how long they record for when triggered, re-trigger tim, sensitivity, etc etc.
There are a number of different camera units that you can buy.
There are battery powered cameras, one exclusively for indoor use which is white with a black face (they used to be all white so not sure why they changed it), and one designed for outdoor use, which is black. Both units have "night vision" enhancements, and the battery life (2 AA batteries) lasts for quite a long time (about a year by my reckoning) which is impressive.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There are also small desktop internal mains powered cameras that come in white and black that are small and subtle.
Tumblr media
There is also a battery powered motion activated spotlight system to which you can attach an indoor or outdoor camera to for a interior or exterior camera and light setup.
Tumblr media
Many of the cameras come in packs of 1, 2, 3 or 4 cameras. You can also buy ad-on cameras seperately.
Note: Have a proper look at the pricing because a lot of the time the 1 camera system is the same price as an add-on camera. Get the 1 camera system in that case, because you get a sync module as well which in essence is free, but always useful to have either as a spare, or to add an extra zone in the house.
This is an example of the video recording when an outside camera detected a fox around the studio. The fox hadn't triggered the motion lights because it came in from the side of the building that doesn't have a sensor.
Clips can be stored to the cloud (for an additional monthly subscription) but this is not mandatory and you can run the system "free" if you want to, receive alerts to motion etc. There's no hub subscription.
Additionally, the system works with Alexa so you can arm and disarm your system manually using Alexa, as well as go live into any camera if you have an Echo Device with a screen, like the Echo Show 5 or Echo Show 8.
As Blink are now owned by Amazon it's the only place to buy them but the systems are really quite cost effective and a breeze to set up.
Blink have also expanded into Front Door Video bells, as well as a pan and tilt motion camera to keep an eye on your pets, so you can utilise their system for your whole house monitoring needs.

songfic for y'all yay. the song is "blood//water" by grandson and i wouldn't recommend it for some of y'all who don't appreciate loud volumes and screaming. (the chorus gets really loud, and they yell it a bit. the chorus is also, funnily enough, the lyrics i use) the warnings are in the tags, so please look at them before you read this.
anyways enjoy the angst

Never get free
Bruce slammed his hand down on the console of the watchtower's computer with a frustrated cry.
"Where is he?!" Bruce yelled up at the screen.
"Batman."
He whirled to face the rest of the League, anger and desperation rolling off him in waves.
Clark stepped forward a rested a hand on his shoulder. "We'll find them."
Bruce shook his hand off and went back to trying to find something that could give him a lead on the person who had Dick and Jason.
Lamb to the slaughter
To his right Tim's hands were flying across a seperate console also attatched to the watchtower. He looked up at the screen, muttering things to himself, then wrote down notes on a little notepad and went back to typing.
Damian could only watch, anxiety and fear mounting up higher and higher the longer it took to find his brothers.
Abruptly, the monitors went black and the lights cut out.
A little text box popped up on the monitors.
INCOMING TRANSMISSION--SOURCE: UNKNOWN. RECIEVE TRANSMISSION? Y/N
Everyone froze and the Bats went rigid.
For a long few seconds, it was like someone had stopped time; nobody moved and everyone held their breath as they stared at the text box.
What'chu gon' do?
Slowly, Tim moved his cursor over the Y. He clicked it.
Then wished he hadn't.
Rapidly every screen blacked out for a milisecond, then came back to life with a live-streamed video.
Jason and Dick stared back, both domino masks still mercifully left in place.
When there's blood in the water
Bruce's heart skipped a beat.
Dick cracked a pained smile, and rasped, "Hey, B."
Tim sucked in a sharp breath when the camera slowly zoomed out and exposed the rest of his brothers.
Jason had a knife buried to the hilt in his ribs, and his shoulder looked dislocated. Dick didn't look injured, but his chest stuttered every time he breathed, and blood was running from his nose and mouth.
They were hurt. They were both hurt, and it was bad, but they were alive. They were still breathing. Not dead. Alive.
We'll never get free
"Batman."
A figure walked into camera and stood behind Dick, placing a hand on his shoulder and squeezing a bit, making Dick bite his lip to keep from crying out at the pain.
Bruce jerked, but there was a hand on his shoulder holding him back, and it was so ridiculous because he couldn't do anything--it was just one screen. Just a screen. He wasn't with his boys, and he couldn't do anything to protect them.
Lamb to the slaughter
"You don't know who I am."
The most frustrating part of this entire ordeal, hands-down. All the rogues were in Arkham and Blackgate. All the usual suspects could be crossed off the list--and they had been.
Bruce had no clues as to who had his sons.
"You don't know what I want."
Another very frustrating thing was that he really didn't know.
"So I'll tell you what I want."
What'chu gon' do?
The hand on Dick's shoulder tightened, and he groaned.
Jason jerked in his seat.
"All I want," the person said, the hand moving to Dick's chin, "is for you to pay your dues."
"Stop," Jason's voice cracked. "Stop."
When there's blood in the water
"I love you, B," Dick gasped out. "I love Red and Robin and Agent A. I love you guys."
A second person walked out and stood behind Jason, and one of their hands slid to his chin.
The price of your greed
Jason went still, his chest heaving, and closed his eyes. He cursed.
Tim was frantically trying to trace the signal, but whoever had his brothers knew what they were doing. The marker kept moving around, from Taiwan to New York to Toronto to Albany and so many other places. It was ridculous the layers of encryption this person had, and it was infuriating that each layer was tougher to crack than the last.
"I can't get a ping!" Tim screamed, slamming his palm on the console and hunching into himself. "I can't--I--I can't--"
He started going into hysterics, breaths too quick and sharp, lenses wide with his eyes, and his hands shaking and someone tried to calm him down.
Bruce was struggling to tear his gaze away from the main monitor.
"It's not your fault," Jason hissed through clenched teeth. "It's not. Don't think it is, for one motherfucking second, assholes. Not your fault. We love you."
Is your son and your daughter
There were twin wet 'crunch' sounds, and Bruce's knees gave out beneath him as Damian gave a yell full of pain and grief and Tim dissociated.
Bruce would have fallen to the ground if hands hadn't caught him and lowered him to his knees gently as he made pained wheezing and keening sounds.
What'chu gon' do?
He'd just watched his sons get murdured.
He'd just watched people--two, unidentified persons--break his sons necks, and he--
Bruce screamed and tears streamed from his face.
He couldn't do anything but scream.
When there's blood in the water
