Using made-up words for an openphrase is a pretty good idea, but I've been told it's best to include numbers and symbols too. Have you considered "stostorage roomoom five ampersand"?

See, that's why you should always change your openphrase away from the default. Now malefactors of unclear intent have complete access to this person's shed. I could be stealing their personal information to sell to the shoshop keepeeper right now and they'd have no idea.

But I'm not that wicked, so I'll just take whatever this is instead.

Length implies value. This seems more than valuable enough to burgle. I will take this and be on my way.

That feels like it's going to be important to remember for later. Typically, if trying to read it causes physical pain, it's probably some sort of horrifying eldritch text from beyond time and space. Which usually means it's definitely worth the effort to figure out how to read it! It might hold the secret to unlimited happiness.

It means a person of slim characterization and very limited expressiveness, designed to allow the audience to easily project themselves.

Our reality's principle form of violence is playing Rock-Paper-Scissors. What are you even supposed to do with a spear?

...I mean. I guess I have this knife I use to form Scissors. Mira's got a rapier for the same purpose. Isa gets Rock out of his punching gloves while Madame Odile's Tome makes Paper.

Not sure how Mirabelle's doing Paper attacks with a sword, though. That's kind of weird. Mira, where are you getting the Paper from? Do you have a motivational brochure for the Change religion as a sidearm?

Mira's weapon is a blade made from thin folded steel. That's where the Paper comes from. That's genius. Mira, you're a goddamn genius.

Okay. I get it now. I understand how weaponcraft in our world of Jankenpon Combat works. So yes, this spear would be a Scissors weapon. But since it's a spear, you could also use it as a bo staff. Would it then qualify as Scissors/Rock?

I appreciate your pragmatism. Contextually speaking, in times of crisis, it's not stealing. It's requisitioning.

Oh shit, that's the traditional Rider-Waite Eight of Pentacles.

The Pentacles sign typically pertains to commerce, labor, and material affairs. This particular card usually symbolizes slow and steady skill progression at a menial craft. The man depicted is practicing his trade, carrying out the repetitive but necessary task of crafting his wares - and in so doing, developing his skill and becoming more capable in the production of his craft.

It's not hard to see the relationship between this card and the timey-wimey mission we're on right now.

There it is. We've found the key with diagnosed and well understood gender dysphoria.

Just because the egg has cracked, that doesn't mean this key is necessarily comfortable with announcing itself yet. Cracking the egg and coming out are very different experiences. If the key doesn't feel safe or ready to do the latter then it's fine for it to remain in the drawer for however long it needs.

I feel like Hotarou was obsessed with Digimon as a kid. The only reason he wore those goggles as a kid was because most of the Digimon protagonists wore goggles. That and the fact that he was so chill as a kid just playing with all the Chemies and how, as a teenager, he's so chill with the fact that there is a whole concept of Chemies. It's because he gets to live out his childhood dream of being a Digidestined and fight off evil.

Before you ask why, specifically, Digimon and not Pokémon. Bandai owns Digimon and Kamen Rider. A crossover between the two is more likely than with Pokémon

Well, actually, canon has it that the goggles were similar to his dad's, which he wasn't allowed to play with when he was a kid. Naturally, Houtaro being a kid, not being allowed something just made him want it more. The Chemmies made him goggles, which then became the Gotcharigniter after a timey wimey shenanigans adventure.

I do see Houtaro being obsessed with shows like Digimon (and Pokemon as well) though, with the whole befriending creatures aspect, though he didn't necessarily understand what endeared them to him. Of course, it's because of his childhood friendship with the Chemmies- the 'mons subconsciously remind him of them, even if his memory had been erased by then. He could be trying to live vicariously through the main characters without realizing it.

The Dimension Riders was decent. I enjoyed the plot, and it was nice to see Ace starting to regain a little trust in the Doctor. But in between the more straightforward elements of the plot, it felt like it tried too hard to be mysterious and deep about the bigger picture. The audience doesn't need to share Ace's constant confusion about the Doctor's plans, thanks. It would be nice to actually get a clear explanation of what's going on. Whatever this overarching plot is, it's walking an increasingly fine line between intriguing timey-wimey foreshadowing and muddled melodramatic weirdness.

Anyway, the next book is by Kate Orman, so I know I can look forward to some good stuff in that one!

What's a song you associate with T'sei and his character journey?

So. For those of you not in the know, here's the (abbreviated) long story:

T'sei is the rider of bronze Xhiyanth of Igen Weyr on Harper's Tale MOO. This is a text-based roleplaying game based on Anne McCaffery's Dragonriders of Pern (where I, by the bye, first met Jeshala-player back in antiquity).

What's significant about this question is that T'sei was originally from Ista Weyr, where he met and fell in love with Sienna, rider of green Kehemath, while they were still Candidates for Impression. After a few years, I had to take an extended break from the game and Sienna-player and I decided it was better if T'sei and Sienna broke up. By this point, T'sei had a flight-child (Aileen) with a greenrider named Ilae, but Sienna and T'sei had no children because Sienna didn't want kids. Since T'sei did, that stood as the basis for their break up.

Young people doing stupid things. You know the drill.

About a year after I went on hiatus, give or take, the game decided to shake things up and devised a Jump Forward/mass destruction plot where there was a cataclysm on Pern and some of the Weyrs, led by certain events that would take too long to explain, decided to jump forward in time 400 years to a time when things had stabilized.

Sienna and Aileen went forward. T'sei stayed behind (because I wasn't playing).

I came back a couple of years after the jump forward and started a couple of new characters (y'all have been introduced to K'shi and his bronze Theron Shan Zhikanikoth). Sienna was still playing and another person who wanted to bring back her rider devised a whole plot where she accidentally went back in time and wanted to come back forward to home, and brought some others - including T'sei - back with her.

And so T'sei jumped forward, 400 years.

Actually, 425 years.

So here he is, 35 years old. Sienna is 53 (she used to be younger than him), and even his daughter Aileen is 36 years old (and that takes some timey-wimey wibbly thought) with five kids.

And he's still desperately in love with Sienna.

And she's still in love with him.

Now, she's lived 25 years in the future. She had a weyrmate. She had two children. She's lived her life.

And here's her much younger ex-weyrmate come along, and he doesn't care that her hair is greyer or she's got a few wrinkles - she's still the Sienna he danced with on the beach in the moonlight all those years ago.

It took no time at all for them to fall in love again and get back together. And, surprise, end up with twin children of their own.

So when Jeshala asks me about what song best characterizes T'sei's journey, this is what she means. And now you know why no one song works.

There's Time After Time for himself and Sienna.

There's Rewrite The Stars, for himself as well as him/Sienna.

If I Could Turn Back Time, for himself before the Second Jump Forward.

And finally, Lucky, for himself since the Second Jump

There's a lot of other songs out there. Sie and I frequently go strolling through our Pandora playlists and see what pops up that makes us think of vignettes for them, either individually or together. But these are the ones that initially come to mind.

How do they gain the power of the RideWatches?

Like, it’s fairly obvious how Sougo will get his hands on the Cross-Z RideWatch since Sento somehow gets it during the Build finale and will just have to hand it over.

But then says he was “giving it back” to Sougo in the pre-season previews of his cameo. And suddenly, Geitsu has the Ghost RideWatch at the end of episode 1 and can already use it?

It makes me wonder... are the Legend Rider RideWatches an existing arsenal that both Sougo and Geitsu can access from the get-go? And the point of the cameos is for the past Riders to give their blessings to Sougo and Geitsu to use their powers or impart some kind of knowledge/lesson that will let them access some sort of greater power- basically, Gokaiger with Kamen Rider?

In which case... how did Sento get his hands on Ryuuga’s RideWatch? And why Ryuuga’s, not his own?

Or, is the arsenal something they “unlock” over time as they meet the Legend Riders? In that case... when did Geitsu meet Takeru and gain his power? Does that mean if this is the route they’re going for... then does that mean the eventual crossover with Ghost will be a flashback to how Geitsu encountered him?

Wait I have a steo wild hunt au that still gives us the why wouldn't I remember Stiles scene. Time travel.

Everything goes exactly as planned, the pack remembers and gets back Stiles. Stiles and Theo somehow end up fighting together when one of the riders gets both of them at the same time. But because magic is funny like that (read: whatever the dread doctors/the nogitsune did to them turns the hunt's train station dimension into wibbly wobbly timey wimey nonsense) they end up both alive 3 months earlier.

And promptly get taken separately by the wild hunt again.

So we not only get both of them being forgotten, we also get Theo being the one telling Stiles he was the only one who really remembered him.

An Interlude — Memories of Another ‘Us’

A young Master, and their cowardly friend, learn of another ‘them.’

Another hero — another heroes. Another life.

From the mouths of those they’ve summoned — they hear something new.

“...Quetzacoatl.”

The laidback Master let out a long, long sigh.

“You met her?”

I sat beside Ritsuka as they breathed in, and breathed out another long sigh.

“Yeah, summoned her and everything. But she said something really, really weird.”

...I leaned in, for a moment.

“Weirder than usual?”

“Weirder because Quetz acted as expected immediately afterwards. But for a moment, she asked me if I was... ‘Shex?’ ‘Chex?’”

As Ritsuka tried to recall the name she said, I gave it some thought as well.

Servants recalling their past Masters was rare enough as is. Certainly, it wasn’t impossible, but it only ever happened if...

“...The closest I can think of is ‘Rex.’ That’s about the closest name I can think of.”

...It didn’t ring a bell at all. A name I hadn’t heard of — perhaps a Master of a time long gone, who worked with Quetzacoatl to the point of even being remembered when she came here now.

...But with every recorded Grail War — Quetzacoatl was never the summoned Rider. Even in Atlas records...

After speaking, Ritsuka leaned back, and ran a hand through their hair — furrowing their brow.

“...I don’t get it. She seemed so familiar with Chaldea already — like, more than the other Divine Spirits. She was already walking around — called it ‘muscle memory.’”

...

...After a moment in thought, it still didn’t click. A Quetzacoatl, speaking of another person, moving around Chaldea as if they’d already been here...

“...Do you think that she holds memories of...”

“...Parallel universes? Is that even possible?”

...It wasn’t completely impossible. Servants spoke of their events often enough that things stopped lining up, and Musashi’s mere existence implied the possibility of other worlds. Let alone the Mysterious Heroines.

“...It totally is.”

Ritsuka cursed underneath his breath, as he tried to think it over in his head.

A different universe, and one where Quetzacoatl was summoned... Sooner? She had been summoned before arriving here.

And a Master that neither of us had ever heard of — certainly, I’d never heard of a ‘Rex.’ Never met someone like that. Yet, Quetzacoatl still spoke of this ‘Rex.’

...Would that person be a Master of a Chaldea apart from our own?

“...So there’s more than one Chaldea.”

Ritsuka began to speak, as if thinking aloud — their voice a little bit hushed, they tried to pin what it meant.

“...Are they all fighting the same seven Lostbelts? Have we seen each other without realizing?”

Ritsuka desperately tried to pin it together — as I only sighed.

“...Maybe they’re fighting their own version of this fight. With their own Servants and allies.”

That had to be it. I’d never met another Master among the wreckage of Earth, and I’d never seen a Singularity where they called home.

Imagining it like a few strands of string, were singularities were knots in the string and the Lostbelts were other strings haphazardly strung onto the main string...

...These Chaldeas were not simply a knot, nor a string placed upon the main one. They were a wholly separate string to begin with — another chain of events, starting somewhere else entirely.

...And memories transferred from there — to here.

...Ritsuka appeared to reach the same conclusion. Their fingers moved to their temples, massaging it carefully.

“...Damnit. That doesn’t make any sense at all.”

The Master breathed out an even heavier sigh.

“You’re telling me, in a whole other world separate to ours, that a whole other Master ended up here and fought instead of us?”

...I laughed, a little bit.

“Seems like it. I guess we weren’t crazy special heroes after all, huh?”

...And, at that, Ritsuka began to laugh as well.

“Poor bastards, those other Masters. Can’t believe we condemn even more people to that.”

“...Maybe we’ll meet them one day.”

At my pondering, Ritsuka paused a second before doubling over in laughter.

“As if they’d let us over! They already probably deal with enough timey-wimey shit.”

“You never know, Ritsuka.”

...The both of us laughed, a bit more — yet, out of the corner of my eye, I’d caught a blonde flash from the slit of the door we barely left open.

A familiar face, curiously looking for someone she knew somewhere else — someone she held dear to her heart.

Even if he wasn’t here —

She could reminisce in the old room he had, surely.

A Servant remembers their summons from other worlds, other times, if they affected the person enough.

And as it seemed — there remained someone who changed the life of the woman forever.

Kisekae Insights #19: Madoka Magica Part 2 (Yuki Magica)

In the last instalment, I talked about Takumi Kamijō and Madoka Magica’s involvement in my project, but I stopped after Gokaiger because things are about to get complicated; there is another story thread that I need to cover before we can continue.

In this instalment, I’ll be talking about another magical boy who became a GARO-esque Kamen Rider. He and his powers have their own backstories which would normally be impossible in the eyes of other Madoka fans (if Takumi’s story wasn’t crazy enough). Basically, I’m the Australian Shinichiro Shirakura and I’m breaking all the rules. Wait, was I supposed to save that joke for the Decade instalments? Oh well, anyway…

One man’s trash, another man’s treasure

In the sixth block of the 50th Anniversary Series, I made an adaptation of The Name of the Doctor but with Hiroki instead of the Doctor. When Hiroki’s timeline gets invaded by a vexatious villain (not the Great Intelligence), he makes a contract with Kyubey to save his past, present and future. He meets Goddess Madoka and becomes a magical boy similar to that of Madoka’s magical girl form. Calling himself the Loveshy Boy, Hiroki enters his own timeline and sends out splinters of himself across his timeline to repair the damage. Zhuge Shu and Nodoka Manabe were among those echoes, along with five individuals whose syllables of their names spelled the syllables of “Nodoka Manabe” and “Madoka Kaname”.

The only other time Hiroki used his magical boy form was in the ninth block when he fought Girl Power and his other enemies in Koshi Castle. He is shot and sent flying in a desperate attempt to save Akari and that is the last we see of Hiroki’s magical boy form – though Walpurgisnacht would influence his next (female) incarnation, he would no longer be a magical boy by the time he moved into his final incarnation.

But by some miracle, Hiroki’s magical boy powers would show up again in 2018, albeit utilised by someone else. How did that happen and why? You’ll find out very soon…

Yuki Yamaki: Secret Inside

Yuki’s timeline is a bit complicated to pinpoint, but it doesn’t matter since this project runs on wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey stuff.

A note before I go on – Yuki’s name would usually be written as Yūki given his Japanese name and my usual habit of denoting long vowels with macrons as per Hepburn romanisation, however I only found his Japanese name recently in an old document I wrote ten years ago, with that same document denoting Takumi’s surname as “Kamijou”. Then again, I didn’t know much about the rules surrounding romanisation back then, so I’ll continue to write Yuki’s name as I have and not bother changing it for the sake of consistency.

Naisho no Tsubomi (Secret Tsubomi) is a manga series that covers topics centred around female puberty and sex education, with a different girl (named Tsubomi) featured in each volume. The first volume was adapted into a three-episode OVA in 2008 and was released in North America by Sentai Filmworks in 2018. Spoilers if you haven’t seen it (but given the premise of Kisekae Insights, you shouldn’t be surprised by now), but based from what I’ve read about in reviews and my own observations, it seems that the character of Saya Endō is likely to be the spirit of a dead girl who reincarnates as Tsubomi’s little sister, or Tsubomi’s little sister who died and came back into the past as a spirit or something. But that doesn’t really matter because this is Doctor Who, what did you expect?

Yuki was born in 2008, the same year as Tsubomi’s little sister, Saya, in a universe where the Third Doctor is the Prime Minister of Australia. In 2018, they joined their universe’s Torchwood at the age of ten and a year later, they were sent on a mission back to the year 2008 to investigate anomalies involving Tsubomi and Yuki’s cousin, Shisei Nagato (長遠志成). During that time, Yuki, Saya, Tsubomi and her friends came to the Doctor’s universe three times over five years from their POV (in our POV, they came once each before, during and after the Salacian Time War). It turned out that Yuki and Shisei are Parker and Hiroki’s counterparts in that universe and that Shisei was taking the place of Futoshi Kuki, who was exterminated by the Daleks. They were unable to find any conclusive evidence regarding the anomalies when they were called back to their time (2023) to fight the Beta Uprising.

Torchwood then sent Yuki and Saya on their second mission in the past, which was to kill Elliot Rodger on his Day of Retribution, 23 May 2014, and prevent the Beta Uprising. Their comrade, Alex Schmidt (played by Alex Williamson) was with them, but he disappeared by the time Yuki and Saya returned to their time. The two had fallen in love during their time together and by 2028, they decided to get married. However, when they were having yum cha with their friends, Alex came in with a group of Chads and revealed his betrayal to everyone; he went back to 2014 and helped Elliot Rodger with his Day of Retribution before spurring Chads and Stacies around the world to fight the incels (nerds basically). He killed Yuki in 2018 because somehow, he was the anomaly surrounding Tsubomi and Shisei that was motivating the incels to continue fighting – Tsubomi and Shisei were never the problem at all.

The 2028 Yuki was killed along with his fiancée and their friends and was taken back to 2018, where he was “fixed up” and prepared to be married to Hideko Kimihara (NOTE: The Kikuchi Clan were not involved in this incident). Kyubey arrives and offers to turn Yuki’s pain into power; Yuki accepts and makes a wish for someone to come and get him out of his mess. It is then that Hiroki, Kayley, Firerose, Narutaki and the Salacian Riders (including a future Yuki and Marcela) were brought to this universe through a dimensional hole. At the same time, Marcela (see #13) arrived to protect Yuki. It is then that Yuki transforms into his magical boy form, which is exactly the same as Hiroki’s Madoka-esque magical boy form (due to interdimensional genetic multiplicity, as Takumi would later speculate), by swinging his Soul Gem necklace in the air similar to how Barago transforms into Dark Knight Kiba in GARO.

Hiroki and the Riders from his world help the past Yuki and Marcela out by attempting to hide with one version of them (past or present) for two weeks, but they are captured after four days. While the Stacies brainwash Marcela, Yuki and Hideko are hooked up to the Progenitor, combining their DNA and making super-soldiers from them. Yuki begins to fall into despair, but despite Hiroki telling him not to give up, he transforms into his witch form, Legendorgarc, which is similar to Kamen Rider Arc’s Legend Arc form, freeing himself in the process.

After a few moments however, Yuki manages to change his despair into hope, allowing him to cast away his witch form and combine it with his magical boy powers into a stronger power. Yuki’s rose bow transforms into the bladed Barayumi Rose Bow (バラユミ), which he swings around him to transform into Kamen Rider Magica, similar to how Aguri Kusugami transforms into Sky Bow Knight Gai in GARO: Yami o Terasu Mono. Two of his signature finishers are the Rensha Ranbu/Rapid-Fire Attack (連射乱舞) and the Naginata Ranbu – Gōka Midaresaki/Naginata Attack – Luxurious Bloom (ナギナタ乱舞・豪華乱れさき). Magica’s Rider design takes inspiration from GARO and Kamen Rider Hibiki, particularly the latter as Magica was originally planned to take its place in Decade before being reinstated.

Hiroki as Decade kills Alex and destroys the universe to get back with to his own universe with his friends and the Salacian Riders, taking the past Yuki and Marcela with them as well. The two, having lost their memories of what happened due to their timelines not being in sync, were left in the past and the only thing that they remembered was that they were enemies; Yuki blamed Marcela for killing his lover and destroying his world, while Marcela blamed Yuki for killing her family.

Decade Episode 7 happened and during the final battle, Decade’s use of the Magica Final Form Ride card allowed Magica to unlock his final form, Loveshy Form, upgrading his weapon into the Ultimate Barayumi Rose Bow in the process. Subsequent transformations only require Magica to squat down and draw a circle on the ground around him similar to how Takeru Jakuzure transforms into Flame Sword Knight Zen. In this form, Magica can split his Ultimate Barayumi in half and use it as a nunchaku or a pair of swords. One of this form’s finishers involves shooting an energy beam from his bow, with the first such usage being aided by Decade using the Magica Final Attack Ride card, breaking Marcela’s brainwashing in the progress.

Following that adventure, Yuki and Marcela reconcile and agree to help each other find the truth about their pasts. By the time they encounter their past selves again in their home universe, they have become a couple. Later, they would thank Hiroki and Narutaki for bringing them together, saying that without their help, they would have kept wandering the land fighting each other without realising their true feelings.

Soulbound and Magia Record

A few days after the last instalment was published, it was announced that there would be a new Madoka Magica film produced as a sequel to The Rebellion Story. This, along with the Magia Record game and anime, means that I can’t have a definitive happy ending for Takumi when my project ends this year, though I might be able to do something for Kamen Rider Zi-O.

Soulbound Series 3 is where Takumi and Yuki’s plot threads converge, with the Madoka Magica tribute being shared with the tribute for Sea Princesses (see Dark Sea Princess in #13).

Following the events of Gokaiger and Decade, Yuki and Marcela begin living in seclusion from humanity, working to protect it from various threats as the “rejected beings of their universe”. Meanwhile, with the rise of magical girls in nearby Kamihama, Takumi started becoming territorial and competitive towards other magical girls, including his own comrades. Despite his efforts to save magical girls from becoming witches, Takumi became frustrated that no matter what he tried to do, the universe seemed to rewrite everything and ruin the work he put in. Unbeknownst to Takumi, the Incubation Cleanser was sabotaged, leading to the continued appearances of witches and other evils; said device was taken out of the equation when the Doppel system came into effect. Takumi’s rivalry with Homura still continued, though they began siding with each other so they could fight warriors (including Kamen Riders and magical girls) for their own enjoyment. Takumi and Homura even attacked Yuki and Marcela, only to be saved by Mami and Hitomi.

At the start of the two-parter, the Barrier Base and SEPTAN crews arrive in Kamihama, where Kyōko and Sayaka, alongside Takumi’s twin sister, Kumiko Hayashi, ask them for their help in saving Takumi. When the Salacian Riders appear along the coast in response to a protest against the human exploitation of marine life, the Barrier Base crew and Torchwood Pleiades fight them. After a while, Takumi and Homura arrive and single-handedly defeat everyone, inviting them to bring more warriors to fight them next time.

Following the battle, the Salacian Riders agree to work with the Barrier Base crew, the SEPTAN crew and Torchwood Pleiades to defeat Takumi and Homura. After Torchwood Pleiades gathered up all the magical girls they could find (technically all the playable Magia Record girls released on the Japanese server up to the end of the Rumors in Disguise event in October 2019, not including Tart Magica or crossover characters), they all confront Takumi and Homura outside of the city. During the battle, a number of magical girls use the power of their Doppels and so do Takumi and Yuki; Takumi’s Doppel resembles Walpurgisnacht to differentiate it from Sayaka’s, namely Oktavia von Seckendorff (but also because he was somehow able to command Walpurgisnacht’s power), while Yuki can only use his Doppel, Legendorgarc, for a maximum of 99.9 seconds (like the Makai Knights in GARO) because he only became a witch for a very short time and as such, is unaccustomed to its power.

The negative emotions and minus energy gathering above them from the constant fighting manifests into the Despair Monster, Kanaderos, a sight observed by Kyubey as he thanks everyone for providing the universe with more energy. Hikaru Tomokaze transforms into Ultraman X while Yuki and Marcela transform into Gaia and Agul to fight Kanaderos. After Exceed X uses the Exceed X Slash to purge the despair from Kanaderos, he joins Gaia and Agul as they fire the Xlugger Shot, Photon Edge and Photon Crusher, but the monster is still standing because of the sheer amount of despair still powering it. Gaia powers up into Supreme Version while Hikaru switches into Ginga. The three Ultras finally defeat Kanaderos for good with the Sparion Beam, Photon Stream and Agul Stream.

After the battle, Kumiko convinces Takumi and Homura to stop fighting and work together to investigate what is going on in Kamihama. Following the two-parter, Takumi would appear again at the end of Arcs 11 and 12, while Yuki and Marcela would only return at the end of Arc 12 alongside the Salacian Riders.

Takumi gained further development in Soulbound Series 4 when he was featured in a two-parter at the end of Arc 13, which was just recently broadcast at the time of publishing this instalment. Due to an increase in dimensional fluctuations through the Cardiff Rift over the past 18 months (since the end of Series 3), Kamihama and Torchwood Pleiades disappeared from this universe and so did Takumi, however he resurfaced recently with his comrades nowhere to be found; he had been cut off from his friends and the magical girl circle. Whether Kyubey and the Incubators had anything to do with it is unknown, though even if they did, the most they would have done is indirectly manipulate events to achieve this goal.

Upon receiving a message from Torchwood in Cardiff notifying them of Takumi resurfacing, the Barrier Base crew head to Mitakihara to meet with Hiroki, Akari, the Doctor and Captain Jack Harkness. After encountering Yuki and Marcela nearby as well, the group heads to Porthcawl (one of the entrances to Kamihama) upon hearing that police have spotted Takumi there. When they get there however, Takumi had killed the police officers cornering him and it is then that Yuki realises that something is wrong. Takumi asks where his lover, his friends and his comrades are before taking his cutlass and transforming into his magical boy form similar to how the Golden Knight Garo transforms.

In the ensuing fight, Takumi summons another cutlass and uses it with his other cutlass to transform into Kamen Rider Serranon similar to how Rei Suzumura transforms into Silver Fanged Knight Zero. Serranon was created as a secondary Rider for Magica in response to Geiz Majesty (I had to create a Rider whose name rhymed with Zeronos so that I wouldn’t need to change the transformation tune because this wasn’t like Decade where I could just do whatever and get away with it). At the moment, I don’t have any plans for Serranon’s final form and it’s likely that he won’t be getting one. Takumi’s cutlasses transform into a set of twin swords called the Yanagiba Sōken (柳葉双剣) that can combine into the Yanagiba Ryūtō (柳葉流刀). His finishers are the Sōken Ranbu/Twin Sword Attack (双剣乱舞) and the Ryūtō Ranbu – Mugen Shinken Nuketsuki/Cutlass Attack – Blade of Infinity (流刀乱舞・無限真剣抜けつき), the latter being similar to the signature attack of Zodomas/Skatana from Gokaiger/Super Megaforce.

While the others fight the familiars that Takumi summoned, Yuki and Takumi fight in their Rider forms, resulting in the former being defeated. Takumi is later spotted at the Roald Dahl Plass, right above the Hub, with the intent of opening the Rift to find a way back to Kamihama. Though the Doctor, Jack, Hiroki and Akari try to stop him, he is only stopped when another villain, Doctor Wells Moreau, shoots him out of nowhere. Moreau later approaches Takumi and offers him a way to get back to Kamihama. Takumi is given a gun which he uses to transform into Galactron MK2 and attack Cardiff, but is defeated by Ultraman Ginga.

After the battle, Hiroki and the others convince Takumi to use his powers for good and so, he takes up Captain Jack’s offer to join Torchwood for the time being until his friends return. While the magical girls will be featured in Soulbound Series 4, they will have to part ways with Takumi again at the end of the series because of Magia Record and the fourth Madoka Magica film.

So this is it for the involvement of Puella Magi Madoka Magica in my personal project. I’d like to remind everyone not to worry if you’re confused at anything you’ve seen so far in Kisekae Insights; chances are that I will address it eventually.

Hey, Lisa, we gonna go to the druid meeting? No? Fripp and the druids are too busy for something as trivial as saving a guy’s life? Wow.

Okay, okay, it sounds like Fripp is getting lost in...timey wimey stuff I guess? I’m not surprised he’s not doing well. He was speaking in quite the riddles when I last saw him.

Linda showed up and we talked more about wanting to save Anne but we can’t do that without the druids’ and Fripp’s help, but we may be able to go ahead and save Justin. He may not want to be saved, but Dark Core will very likely kill him now that they’ve decided he’s not useful.

We need Alex, though! We can’t just make plans and run off on a mission without our fourth soul rider!

Lisa sent me to go ask around about a ride to the oil rig while we wait for Alex to show up.

Asked this guy who usually gives me a ride, but no dice. There’s not nearly enough room for four horses on his little boat.

I went to ask the captain but he’s nowhere to be found. I had to ask several identical seamen where he is, but finally one told me he’s out sailing.

We don’t have time to lose, so I started asking around if anyone else would take us there, but they all said the weather this time of year is too stormy and dangerous for sailing.

This guy said he might if he had one of those giant barges the Dark Core use, but how would he get one of those? It’s not like he can just sneak on one lol....unless?

I went back to Linda and Lisa to see if Alex has shown up yet and tell them the bad news that nobody is willing to take us, though I think I have an idea

Alex wasn’t there, yet, but they did seem very excited to steal a barge. Linda also said she had a vision that the world would end if I don’t take ChanceHunter with me on this mission. Whoa, chill Linda, Chance goes with me on all my missions. No need to be so dramatic.

We decided to split up to look for Alex. There’s no way she’d ever forgive us if we stole a barge without her. Linda looked around the observation points, Lisa looked in valedale, and I was sent to Marley’s since Alex mentioned going there with her mom.

Yep, found her. She was giving her mom a riding lesson.

I caught her up on everything she missed and she said she’s just gonna finish up with her mom and then she’ll meet us at the Moorland beach

Welp, Alex isn’t here yet. Lisa suggested we do some recon while we wait for her, so I went sneaking around to see how easy it’ll be to sneak on board the barge

Yikes that’s a lot of guards. This is gonna be much harder than last time.

Oh good Alex finally decided to join us.

We agree there’s no way we’ll be able to sneak past the guards, there’s too many. Linda said she remembers there’s a spell that will make you look like somebody else, but she doesn’t know how to do it. We’ll have to ask Mrs Holdsworth for help

Mrs Holdworth agrees to help, but of course she doesn’t have all the ingredients, so we’ll have to go fetch them for her. At least there’s enough of us I only need to get one ingredient this time. The other soul riders will get the rest.

I was assigned going to the witch’s swamp and getting water with the reflection of a will-o-wisp in it. Weird. Linda told me to not look at the wisps themselves, since they’ll draw me into the swampy water.

So of course that’s the first thing I did. Guess what I’m alive still, and I got the magic wisp water

So the plan is we all turn ourselves into Dark Core goons, Lisa and I will talk to the guard and distract him, while Alex and Linda will sneak on board the barge and act like they belong there. We’re to act like we’re taking our horses to be turned into dark horses, just like I did to Chance that one time.

I told the guard I was on special orders to bring these horses to Headquarters and Linda and Alex ran past us as I answered his questions. Unfortunately the guard was just too suspicious and he saw through our disguises.

They all freaked out and put up a barrier and started running at us, but Lisa was quick and she threw some sleep bombs at them

Good thing those work. Love that this guy has his head in the sand lol

More guards were coming and I had to fend them off by throwing more sleep bombs while Alex and Linda struggled with the controls to the barge. Turns out they don’t know how to drive a barge

you would think it would be easier because there’s four of them :P

eventually they figured out the controls, but we decided there’s no way Lisa and I could get on the barge without some guards getting on too, so we told them we’d meet them at Fort Pinta and they left us there on the dock

That’s when Lisa and I ran out of sleep bombs. Ruh roh. Time to scatter!

We ran in opposite directions. Good thing we got our horses, there’s no way the guards could chase us down.

We met up at the docks at Fort Pinta

Lisa said Linda texted her that they’re being chased by another barge and it might be a while before they can shake them off and come get us. Guess we’ll have to wait until tomorrow.

I just realized some of the reasons I personally don’t like Kamen Rider Zi-O. The first is that he just rehashes a lot of earlier things, time travel was already done by Den-O, the worlds merging was done by Decade, and the overpower abilities was done by Ex-Aid via God Gamer lvl billion. The tributes were lackluster. The ending with everything being undone and Sougo giving up his powers and chance to be king to save the world was nice, but the Toei had to undo it.

On this point, I'm not really sure I agree. Yes those themes have been done in previous seasons... but Zi-O's not the first time that they were rehashed anyway. So singling out Zi-O for these isn't necessarily fair imo.

Like, while the time travel theme wasn't overtly present in another series, a few stories within some seasons have time travel plots. Drive had a few movies with wibbly wobbly timey wimey shenanigans, including its crossover with Ghost. The worlds merging thing was a whole plot point in Build and its crossover, HeiGen Final. And while I'm not quite sure what you mean by "overpower abilities" Riders with broken abilities are a dime a dozen at that point.

The tributes were lackluster.

For me it was more the lack of consistency with the quality of these crossovers and the representation of the series. There were some series that got a really good showing, like say Den-O... and there were others that got absolutely butchered like Ryuki (especially where Rider Time was concerned)... and there was Kuuga who didn't even get a single returning cast member.

I also had issues with the whole timeline erasure plot they had in the beginning. I felt like they either shouldn't have done it at all or they should've stuck their guns on it. Obviously, they chickened out due to backlash from the people who loved the series that got erased. Which plays into the next point...

In this case though, it's pretty much a given they would backtrack on it because they were already planning the inevitable V Cinema and especially the crossover, which would require Sougo to be Zi-O for obvious reasons. And even worse was that we knew that they were more or less going to handwave away how Sougo would regain his powers.

So... why bother do it at all? Why alienate the audience with that kind of ending when they know perfectly well that Sougo will come back as Zi-O anyway?

Sure the Heisei era might be a bumpy road but as long as there are different people in charge of each show, the continuity is NEVER going to be consistent.

Doctor Who has been going for far longer and unlike Kamen Rider, was ALWAYS meant to be a single continuity and it’s gotten to the point that not even “timey-wimey nonsense” can handwave them all.

Also DC Comics rebooted their continuity so many times that they probably broke continuity just as many times just by doing so, it doesn’t help that there are characters that survived the reboots or were otherwise unaffected because of how overpowered they are.

Gwenpool Strikes Back even poked fun at the different writers’ interpretations of the character, another prime example of how hard it is to get a single continuity straight with different writers.

People like me nitpick the continuity errors because we care and because we enjoy it. I for one at least know that things might not ever be better but that’s not ever going to stop me! coughasofthismoviethereareatleastthreetofivenobunagasnowcough

Edit: After seeing the ending and how he used this an excuse to handwave a lack of explanations, I’m half convinced that this was just Shirakura trying to justify his INDIVIDUAL shows being poorly made. But hey, at least G is canon now.

Headcanons on the Future Riders (Shinobi, Quiz, Kikai, or even Ginga but you can exclude him) from Zi-O?

I don’t really have specific hcs for them because I don’t really know how they’d fit into my version of Zi-O’s events (which is far less timey-wimey than actual Zi-O was)

On that note though, I do like Quiz the best... though that’s just my GoBusters bias talking lmao
