I can't remember if I sent this to you already but could I request headcanons for aizawa, hizashi and Toshinori finding their s/o that has a chipmunk quirk that makes her fall into hibernation when it's too cold (kinda like tsu) but when the guys find her with her heart rate low and her breathing shallow maybe they freak a little bc she didn't tell them about that part of her quirk yet
omggggg this idea is literally so cute I got so excited when I first read it. Also thank you love for comin through with the requests, I really appreciate it! <3 I also hella struggled cuz like, what can someone with a chipmunk quirk do? Stuff their cheeks? Climb up trees? Also I legit forgot what a chipmunk even looked like I had to look it up lmaoooo im so dumb it hurts
Aizawa is an intimidating fella, okay
So when you first told him about your quirk, you were lowkey embarrassed?
Like, here’s this grown-ass man with a badass quirk who is more than capable of taking down villains and defending himself, and here you are just-

But you know what’s great about this man? He couldn’t give less of a shit about your quirk or anything like that. He strikes me as the type to care more about personality than anything else
concealing your quirk is fairly easy. People probably wouldn’t even know you had one if it wasn’t for the small fluffy ears popping out of the top of your head, and even then you could just cover them with a hat
But that doesn’t mean you don’t experience the effects of your own quirk just because it’s subtle
You have a mutant type quirk, so you experience certain things that actual chipmunks do
Sometimes you won’t even notice that you’re stuffing your cheeks to full capacity with whatever you’re eating before Aizawa has to cut you off and just be like
“y/n. Chew.”
Or when you’re rushing, you’re usually going so fast that Aizawa can barely even see you zooming from room to room
you can also get kinda skittish at times, your ears twitching whenever you hear a noise that sounds weird or out of place, and you’ll just look at Aizawa with wide eyes until he checks out what made a noise that he could barely hear
“y/n, it was just some kids outside.”
“Oh... sorry, Sho.”
he wants to be frustrated, but he knows it’s not your fault. And honestly? He finds you so cute that he can’t really stay mad at you
So he’ll just let out a huff before patting your head lovingly, grazing his fingers over your ears (Which he KNOWS are sensitive, that asshole)
Experiencing long periods of deep sleep is also a thing. You wouldn’t call it hibernation cuz you still have to do normal, everyday things, but there are times during the winter where you’ll sleep for a few days in a row and only get up to go to the bathroom or eat
And since you can’t actually burrow into the floor of your home, you usually make a blanket fort in the corner of your bedroom and stuff all of the pillows and blankets you can in there until it’s nice and warm, ready for you to bury yourself in
and you might’ve left that little part of your quirk out when you moved in together. whoops
So when Shouta comes home and sees the living room couch void of all of its pillows, he’s not expecting to walk into your shared bedroom and see you curled up in a blanket fort
he’s a bit curious at first, just kinda looking at you like “All right, I guess this is normal?”
and he’ll crouch down and kinda examine you for a bit before he eventually wonders if you’re even breathing? You’re burried under blankets, so he can’t really see your chest moving
eventually he’ll check and see that your breathing is abnormally slow and he kinda just... pauses and checks again to make sure he’s not going crazy.
and he wont deny that he kinda freaks out at first, his immediate thought being that he needs to get you out of there, but the second he grabs the blankets to pull them off of you he’s like wait... hold up.
then it all clicks
you’re a mutant with a chipmunk quirk...

safe to say he’s relieved, so he just lets you be and goes about his day.
When you wake up a few hours later to go to the bathroom, you come out of the bedroom with your clothes practically on backwards, rubbing at your eyes and stumbling past Aizawa like he’s not even there. And when you’re done, it’s right back to sleep you go
“Back to bed?” Aizawa would ask as he watches you with an amused smirk on his face
“Mhm.”
“Okay. Goodnight, y/n”
“Mm’night.
Listen, when he first heard of your quirk, he thought it was the cutest shit ever
“Your quirk is Chipmunk?! That’s SOOOOOOOO CUUUUUUUTE!”
No he’s legit your number one hype man. If you think your quirk is lame, he’s literally shouting at you how cool he thinks you are.
“You can stuff so much food in your mouth, y/n! And that’s pretty dope if you ask me! I’m totally jealous!”
speaking of food, he’ll just randomly ask you to shove as much as you can of one thing in your cheeks until they’re at full capacity.
“Hey y/n, think you can shove this whole pack of jumbo marshmallows in your cheeks?”
“But... I just bought those :(”
“I’ll buy you more, LET’S DO THIS!!!”
also asks you the dumbest questions omg. You don’t know if he’s genuinely curious or if he’s just doing it to piss you off
“So do you just eat nuts all day?”
“You’ve seen me eat, Hizashi. No.”
“Do you prefer to sleep in trees?”
“That would be extremely uncomfortable.”
“Ooh you’d probably be great frieds with Kamui Woods then.”
“Did you not hear what I just said?”
He also REALLY likes your ears. Like an unhealthy amount? Whenever you’re around he literally wont stop touching them and even tugs on them playfully until you’re swatting at his hands and telling him to go away
He can’t help that they’re so cute :(
so on a particuallry cold day in winter when he has to go to work at the school, he leaves your home while you’re sleeping, only to come home hours later to find you... still sleeping?
You haven’t moved an inch the entire time he’s been gone, so needless to say, he’s a litle concerned.
and when he checks to see if you’re still alive only to discover your heart rate is super slow, he’s A LOT concerned
His brain just goes to the most dramatic thing he can think of, which is that you’re in some weird coma and need to wake up
so rather than, i dont know, gently shaking you awake like a normal person, he grabs you buy your shoulders and starts shaking you violently while shouting your name loud as fuck
“Y/NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN”
“JESUS FUCKING CHRIST!”
you literally wake up so violently, you sit right up and shove him off of you before asking what’s wrong with him, pretty sure you’ve officially gone deaf
He then explains that he thought you were in a coma or something cuz your heartbeat was so slow, and at that point you just roll your eyes because of course he would come up with this ridiculous conclusion
“Hizashi, my quirk is chipmunk and it’s a mutation quirk.”
He doesn’t even get what you’re getting at, just tilting his head in confusion as he squints at you.
“What do chipmunks do in the winter, babe?”
Cue more confused squinting
“Oh my god, they hibernate, you headass.”
it finally clicks and the look on his face makes it seem like he just learned the secret of the universe, and afterwards he’s going on about how cool that is while you just roll your eyes and lay back down to try and go back to sleep, bringing the blanket over your head to try and drown him out
He eventually gets the hint and leaves, but after a while, you kinda feel bad for blowing up on him. He was just concerned and didn’t fully understand your quirk
so letting out a huff, you pull the blanket down and call out his name, to which he immediately runs to you at the sound of, asking you what you need
you just wordlessly lift up the blanket to expose the empty side of the bed, and oh boy, the size of the grin he gets on his face is unmatched
immediately throws off his hero costume so that you can both be comfortable and jumps into bed with you, holding you impossibly close
you fall asleep in a matter of minutes while he just looks at you fondly, hand soothingly rubbing your back.
Just like the other two, he finds you incredibly cute. Like mans is in love, okay?
everytime he sees your little ears twitch, he just gets the strongest urge to touch them, but he never does without your consent becuase he knows how sensitive they are.
“Uh... y/n, do you mind if I... touched your ears?”
Baby probably feels so awkward asking ugh PLEASE REASSURE HIM
“Oh? Yeah, of course, Toshi. Knock yourself out.”
oooh he’s excited. He’ll be super gentle about it, just lightly grazing them with his fingers before gently rubbing them between his thumb and forefinger
and at that point you’re littlerally melting, practically falling into him because him caressing your ears like this feels absolutely amazing
When he sees how it’s affecting you, he immediately becomes a blushing mess and apologizes, but you just hug him and tell him it’s okay and that you liked it
yeah he definitely rubs your ears whenever you’re feeling stressed or anxious because it’s become a quick way to relax you
only when he does it though. If anyone else randomly touches your ears, you get kinda uncomfortable
Just because they don’t look human doesn’t mean they still weren’t a part of you, dammit
Anyways, one day when you’re waiting for Toshi to come back home, you’ve got yourself wrapped up like a burrito in your blanket, sitting on the couch as you watched tv
it had been snowing all day, but luckily Toshinori had turned up the thermostat before he left, remembering how you mentioned that you’re not a huge fan of the cold
unfortunately for you, the harsh weather had no trouble taking out the power, leaving you in the dark and the cold
it didn’t take long for the cold to start seeping in through the cracks in the windows, and you quickly began to grow tired before you inevitibly passed out on the couch, still wrapped tightly in your blanket
When Toshi gets home and sees you on the couch, his first reaction is “aw, how cute.”
but then when he comes up to you and starts calling out your name to try and wake you up and you just won’t, and then he notices how much your breathing has slowed down, he quickly growns concerened.
He’s not in full panic mode yet, but he’s getting there, and he’s quick to crouch down to your level and grab your shoulders to start shaking you to wake you up
which you do, blinking groggily at him like you weren’t just in full hibernation mode
“Oh... Hey, Toshi,” you mumble, and you reach up to wrap your arms around his neck to pull him down so that you can nuzzle yourself into his warm chest
He’s not able to ask you about what happened to you before you’ve already fallen back asleep, and when the power comes back on a few minutes later, he does a quick google search on chipmunks and mutant quirks before putting two and two together
Now he’s thinking of all the ways he could make you something to burrow into during those especially cold winters

danny phantom, season 3, episodes 7-13 thoughts! cannot believe im finishing this series so fast. ...cannot believe it ended like that...uh. one of the weirdest finales to a show I think I've seen, it really stood out against the rest of the series, and not in a good way, in my opinion. I paused to yell in caps lock...several times, I think, out of anger... BUT. ANYWAY, HERE WE GO.

-the fentons putting the kids to Work in the lab, with NO SAFETY GEAR. AT ALL. THEY JUST GOT BACK FROM SCHOOL AND ARE TIRED!!! and when jack asked how danny his day was and danny tried to say it was bad jack cut him off :( for the 400th time, i am stealing these kids.
-maddie and jack IMMEDIATELY SELLING THEIR LAB AND WORK FOR A LOT OF MONEY. and danny cant get into the portal anymore, oh no!!! he could always just steal vlads I Guess.
-THEY ARE VLADS NEW NEIGHBOR. OH MY GOD. this is a sitcom format. a butler came with the new mansion. i would absolutely try a kiwi fudge milkshake, why is the butler disgusted.

-I like how this show has been pretty consistent (with a few exceptions) about a Ghost Being Huge (or getting larger) = Very Powerful
-2 months of summer camping??? wtf, do camping things usually take that long?? I've never been to a camping...thing like that. but isnt that basically their entire summer??

OKAY?? obv he /does/ want power (usually over certain ppl, tho), but seeing him try to get it like this FELT WEIRD SOMEHOW. weird like the ep where he tried and failed to take over various historical civilizations, because like,, how is that realistically going to do anything for him?? just, being in that time forever and never seeing maddie aka Goal #1 again?? HELLO??? this was like that, but worse
-this was such a weird ending to an entire show. why did season 3 only have 13 episodes?? why did it feel so weirdly paced?? WHY WAS THE ENDING LIKE THAT. I think. I am going to pretend I did not see that. fucked up, dudes. I'm like...hm. I shouldn't have watched that because now I'm mad. valerie sweetie im SO sorry you shouldve been more present. it felt like..if they knew this season was going to be short, and the last season, they should've spent more time wrapping up EVERYONE'S plot lines for the entire season. imagine how cool it wouldve been if every single ep of season 3 was working towards something, a big, nice wrap up at the end, with nothing feeling TOO rushed because they'd been heading towards the End for the whole season....
I will probably end up writing a follow up full series thoughts post. In a couple of days so I can sit with my thoughts. BUT. overall, I really liked the show! (ignoring the finale and some of the moments that aged pretty poorly...) it was charming and a fun concept and very fun to watch in general :) and I am pretending the finale didnt happen <3 and I’m gonna dive RIGHT into the dp tags and mix fanart and posts in my queue, very excited to run and look at that 🏃🏻 (and, of course, make more fanart myself hehe >:3)

I hab a request if u dont mind. So Spy is not only good at singing, but he dances pretty 'decently' (and by that I mean hes so 👌👌) and Sniper one day walks in on him dancing. It was pretty obvious he was there because the door creaks pretty loud, but Lucien decides to continue dancing and seduce him. It works, and he joins in on him. (Or they hab a 'smexy' time, you decide ^^)
Hey there! Here we go for Spy dances like a God ^^ I hope you’ll enjoy it! :D
Spy exited his shower. It was autumn already and the leaves of the trees had turned to the colour of his natural melancholy. He put a shirt and a pair of trousers on top of his boxer shorts, that he liked to fit him quite tightly. Finally, he put on his bright red dressing gown on top of it all, and left it open.
Spy went to his jacket and its breast pocket. He found the cigarette case and elegantly flipped it open.
"Ah, oui, j'avais oublié."
[Ah, yes, I had forgotten.]
He frowned for a second at the empty cigarette case. It wasn't exactly empty, there was a picture that would usually be hidden behind the cigarettes, the picture of the man Spy's heart was busy with. Oui, the old womanizer with more love conquests than stars in the night sky now held a man in his heart. And what a man…
Spy smiled as he stared at the picture.
He always wore a hat, that man, but Spy had seen his hair a few times. Wavy, brown with auburn reflections under the sun. That man also always wore yellow-tinted aviator glasses but how many times had Spy stared at his eyes beyond the glasses without him realising it. They were blue, lagoon blue, of a much darker shade than his own. His skin was rough and tanned by the years under the scorching sun of Australia. And his sideburns… Out of any kind of fashion but God how Spy wanted to lose his fingers there!
He sighed. Oui, he was in love with the Bushman who lived in a van, the solitary hunter with a rifle, Sniper. Spy smiled without realising it. He loved him but in secret. No one would understand it. Even he himself didn't, and it had taken him quite a long time before he realised that the reason why he always wanted to spend more time with him, the reason why he stared at him longer than the others, the reason why he felt that strange warm tickle inside of him when he saw or talked to him, was only and simply love. And not friendly love at that, it was romantic love.
The kind that tortures you as much as it fulfills you, the sweetest of torments, the predicament that you throw yourself into willingly even though you know, and Spy better than anyone else did know. He knew that it could only be a secret. He knew it had to be kept so. He had a reputation to hold and he would try his best to.
Ah, how easy it was to say those words just now. But each time Spy's eyes met with Sniper's, he would forget who he is and would give his reputation as a top intelligence agent away for even just a smile from Sniper. He had the sweetest of smiles, gentle, honest, from the heart. He wasn't faking or trying to give himself a certain style. Sniper was just who he was. There was no game, no lies.
Honesty is a luxury that Spy could never afford, and some lies he had to carry with him like the Christ himself had to carry his cross. They would probably be the death of him, he knew it. No one takes up that kind of position without thinking about such consequences. Because they weren't risks, but consequences. A risk is something you suspect might happen. A consequence does happen.
And as sure as Spy hated himself for the lies he had to bear on his shoulders, he knew it was romantic love he felt for Sniper.
Spy raised his eyes to the clock and nodded to himself. Sniper had gone to town and kindly asked him if he needed anything. Spy had said that a few packs of cigarettes would be most appreciated if of course it didn't bother him in any way. Sniper had accepted to run that errand for him and thus Spy was waiting. Given the time, it wouldn't be too long before Sniper would come.
Spy had invited Sniper multiple times in his suite. Most of the time, it was for a coffee, a cigarette and a chat. Sniper had never refused. Maybe the solitude of that van of his was too hard to bear? In any case, Spy was delighted every single time his friend would honour him with his presence and his company. They had made a habit of these coffee and cigarette "breaks"; so much that Spy had his door more or less open for Sniper. He had told him to just knock and enter straight away. Sniper was the only one with that privilege and Spy had allowed him in such a way in the mad hope that someday, Sniper would surprise him with his presence...
Spy walked to his living-room and put a disc on his record player. The piano, carried by the double-bass and soon a voice rose in the air, the singer's, yes, but above it, Spy's.
{To the reader: the song is "How do you keep the music playing" by Michel Legrand.}
"How do you keep the music playing?
How do you make it last?
How do you keep the song from fading
Too fast?"
Spy started singing and the music wrapped him, in the bittersweet lyrics. Meanwhile Sniper was parking his van and had come to his friend's door. He heard the sound of music from the other side of the door and leaned in to hear better. Yes, yes it was music! And that voice, was it… Spy's? Sniper gave a knock.
No answer. But his curiosity was burning him. It did sound like Spy was singing. Come on, that posh man? Singing? Nah… Unless…?
Sniper wrapped his fingers around the doorknob and twisted it before pushing slightly, just enough for his eyes to have a peek at what was happening in Spy's room.
"How do you lose yourself to someone?
And never lose your way?
How do you not run out of new things
To say?"
Sniper's jaw dropped and his eyes snapped wide. He saw Spy singing and… dancing! Spy was walking elegantly, swirling with his open bright red gown flowing and spiralling after his thin and graceful silhouette and his hips slowly bending under the mellow rhythm.
Spy hated love songs, he usually found them too caricatural, and nonsensical. But they made sense now. They made so much sense that he felt the lyrics hit inside of him, and he was hallucinating, seeing himself sing those words to the one man who counted: Sniper.
"If we can be the best of lovers,
And be the best of friends,
If we can try with every day to make it better
As it grows.
With any luck then, I suppose,
The music never ends."
To Sniper's eye, Spy's silhouette was satin red because of the gown, with the golden stripes of the setting sun that shone through the shutters on the windows. Spy wrapped his arms around himself before opening them wide and singing, louder this time, letting his voice explode against the walls.
"And oh, the way I feel for you is now or never!
The more I love, the more that I'm afraid!
That in your eyes I may not see forever!"
He had sung this for Sniper, even though he wasn't there and would never hear it. Spy had screwed his eyes shut, as one would to wish very hard on a star for something one deep down knows would never happen.
The music stopped on the disc but Spy went on, with a very low voice, like a whisper.
"Sniper.
The way I feel for you is now or never.
The more I love, the more that I'm afraid,
That in your eyes I may not see forever…"
He turned to the door and opened his eyes. Sniper could see his eyelashes were wet.
"Forever…"
Sniper pushed the door and entered without a word. He shut the door after him and silence fell in the room. They stared at each other. Spy was paralysed. He knew Sniper had heard him and watched him. Sniper was astonished. Spy's voice was something from another world. It could be strong and blow the walls around them away, but it could also whisper, wrapping forbidden words of love in delicate waves of air before sending them to diffuse and disappear in the atmosphere.
But Sniper caught those waves of air, and unwrapped them to reveal the sweetest of secrets.
"Put the disc again." He simply said and as ashamed as he was, Spy lowered his head and did as he was told. The piano rose in the air again as Spy's eyes slowly rose to meet Sniper. He took the few steps that separated them and opened his arms.
"Show me how you do it." Sniper asked and Spy raised a curious eyebrow. He nonetheless obeyed, putting a palm against Sniper's and a hand on his shoulder. Sniper laced his hand around Spy's waist and the Frenchman might have turned to liquid on the spot. He was flustered, red beyond his ears and felt hot, way too hot.
The music started and Sniper took a step. He led the dance and Spy couldn't believe his eyes. He was dancing with the man his heart was now racing for, his fingers sweated under the gloves and he wished he could throw his balaclava away. The song was quite mellow and slow, such that Sniper didn't have to move too much. It was perfect, he didn't want to anyway. All he wanted was to partake in Spy's dream.
He said that the way he felt for him was now or never. Let it be now then. Let it be just now. Let it be right now.
Sniper didn't know how to dance very well, but he knew how to hug. He pulled Spy from his waist to close the gap between them. As he lowered his head, he saw Spy evade his gaze, but he was pulling him so close that he had no choice but to lean his head on Sniper's shoulder. As soon as he did so, Spy closed his eyes and yielded to Sniper's moves completely. Sniper could have walked all the way to the Sahara if he had wanted, Spy would still be glued to him, his head on his chest, their stomach against each other's, his heart beating shamefully hard and almost bare against Sniper's chest...
Spy closed his eyes still wet from the tears he had shed as he wished that Sniper could have heard him sing. Well, some wishes get granted before you make them. Spy had his eyes closed and so, he focused on all the rest. Sniper's heart was beating almost right below his ear and he could smell his cologne. His cheap and strong cologne…
Spy wanted to smile in satisfaction but it was all too much. He didn't know if he was dreaming or if it was happening for real. And as Sniper stopped moving, he realised the music had stopped.
Sniper lowered his hand that was holding Spy's and let go of it. Spy's heart shattered like glass when he stopped feeling the warmth of his hand in his.
But his eyes snapped wide when he felt Sniper's hand behind his back, between his shoulder blades, sliding up. Now it was behind his neck, on the balaclava, and it stopped there. Spy didn't dare move. He tried to enjoy it, try to remember it all before it stopped, because it would stop and whenever that would happen it would be too soon!
Sniper bent his head down and put his lips on Spy's forehead, on the bare skin that wasn't hidden the balaclava. Spy's breath went in a staccato, cut by his louder-than-ever heartbeat and the force of the emotions he felt were like a punch to his guts.
It was subtle but it was there. The kiss. Sniper had kissed Spy's forehead and the shorter man immediately raised his head with eyes wider than planets, glistening, with his eyelashes that betrayed how strongly he felt for Sniper.
Sniper was smiling.
"Didn't know you liked me, eh, Spook?" He gently said and Spy smiled.
"Pardon." Spy answered in his mother tongue.
"For what?"
"I should have told you. I couldn't."
"It's alright. I know it's hard." Sniper squeezed him tighter and bent down for his cheek to be above Spy's ear. He whispered. "I love you too."
Spy dug his fingers in Sniper's sides and buried his head deep in his chest. He didn't want Sniper to see him cry. For the second time now.

sooo ruth and i watched the first hxh movie holla
me as soon as we’re done w/the yorknew arc: OH FUCKY ITS ANIME MOVIE TIME
i love anime movies. theyre so often Entertaining As Hell, and also Not Very Good. its a very fun intersection
overall this movie slots pretty easily into that category. it was a good time but nothing revolutionary. which is ok! and that makes sense bc its not canon apparently
this movie was basically the ‘killua and kurapika have Trauma(tm)’ movie lmao
we open w/killua having a trauma dream abt illumi, rehashing the stuff we saw in the hunter exam arc....we see this a few more times in the movie, and it really drives home how killua is still rlly scared of illumi and kinda just goes into a dissociative trauma state whenever illumi is around (even fake doll illumi or dream illumi, in this movie). poor kid :( :(
regrettably tho ruth and i agree that illumis outfit in this movie was pretty sexy
ok that whole beginning part where kurapikas eyes get stolen happens SO fast hvbfhdjshfsk its like ok guess thats the status quo for this movie!
jesus poor kurapika. they cant catch a fuckgin break huh
also that kid was totally the kid that was alluded to by kurapika at the end of the yorknew arc...so i guess that was included in the anime as a setup for this movie?
also apparently that stuff was based off of a short story thing the author did a while ago which is p cool

also the market people’s reaction to seeing kp’s red eyes is rlly interesting to me...are the kurta like, known to anybody? or are they more of a vaguely talked-about group that like, ‘probably exists’? or is it that people know abt them but not the red eyes thing? it seems like these people, if any, would know, bc this market is seemingly a day’s travel from where the kurta live....i want more kurta lore bro!!

general thots:
so this was very much an Anime Movie, in that they cant like, advance to plot or develop the characters much, bc its a movie. and this one is non canon
it was enjoyable but i do feel like it was much more typical shounen then hxh usually is...like, i feel like this was made by the same people who make like, the naruto movies or w/e, and w/the same sort of approach/attitude
this isnt necessarily bad - i LIKE shounen for a reason - but it was a bit noticeable bc it wasnt quite as smart as hxh is usually, and it rehashed a lot of stuff weve already seen in this show itself
but still i think it did a good job w/what it had, and it had some good angst, and everyone was very gay which is good
the art style was SLIGHTLY wack but it wasnt as bad as i thought itd be
overall a fun time like most anime movies. didnt reinvent the wheel but i had a good time. im excited for the greed island arc, and im also disproportionately excited to watch the hxh musical bc that is a thing that exists and i MUST see it asap bc that sounds like the kind of hilarious wackiness that appeals to me specifically

Harry Potter AU; Javid
(so the way this is going to go, because i’m so hyped about this, is four sections, following along with the plot of the last four books in the series. this is part one, with the next three to be posted in the next few days.) (also like this is all assuming the reader will have knowledge of the plot of the last four harry potter books!! wikipedia that shit if u dont know!)

Davey knew, logically, that there was no way he could really be hurt at this thing. He was far enough away that he could enjoy the thrill of the event without being nervous (for himself, that is, the kid that was down there was another matter entirely.) But all the same, there was a fucking dragon there.
He would have been content to hear about it from his friends after it happened, head full of fantasies of how quiet the library probably was, how he’d be able to get at the herbology book he’d been coveting for weeks - but they’d forced him out, stressing how historic this tournament was, and how much he’d regret missing it. He didn’t tell them that actually, he’d missed a lot of historic events before, and he was really quite alright with it. For his part he’d made them stand at the back (although he was sure that if a dragon really wanted to hurt them it wouldn’t be put off by the extra fifty feet or so it had to travel.)
‘I wonder how they’re meant to pull this off?’ Albert squinted out into the field, trying to assess what the poor bastards taking part had to deal with. ‘Do they get any help?’
‘I don’t think so.’ Davey had read up a little on these tournaments. ‘I think the point is they’re meant to be able to come up with their own way.’
‘I couldn’t do it, ya know. I’d piss my pants and cry for a really long time, til everyone went home.’
‘That might work.’ Davey raised his eyebrows. ‘The dragon might feel sorry for you and let you win.’
‘Maybe I should have entered my name after all!’
They were interrupted by a short Gryffindor wielding a wad of parchment.
‘You guys want some action?’
‘I’m sorry?’ Davey couldn’t unpick this guy’s phrasing.
‘Good odds on Potter and Diggory. C’mon, let’s liven it up.’
‘It’s already pretty lively, I think.’
‘Give it up, Race,’ another Gryffindor appeared behind the kid and affectionately pulled on his friend’s woolly hat. ‘Them Weasley boys have monopolised the game.’
‘Rats.’ Race tucked his betting slips under his arm.
Davey turned back to Albert. ‘I was about to complain about being cold but I don’t want to tempt fate.’
‘I don’t think the dragon cares too much, Davey.’
‘Hey, I know you.’ Race’s friend butted in. ‘Albert, you’re in my potions, right?’
‘Right! What’s up? Davey, this here’s Jack Kelly. He’s the kid who exploded the Confusing Concotion in Snape’s face in second year, oh my god.’
Davey nodded in greeting, vaguely remembering hearing the story. Jack smiled and reached out his hand to shake Davey’s. It was at that moment that the dragon decided to show the world what a bad mood it was in, and blast a stream of fire over the entire stadium. Davey gasped, and ducked - because there was a fucking dragon there - and if he happened to accidentally squeeze this stranger’s hand, well, that was probably entirely understandable.
Because of the fucking dragon.
Jack grinned and raised his eyebrows but he didn’t pull his hand away. If a cute stranger needed him to protect them, he’d be there.
‘Sorry,’ Davey muttered. He dropped Jack’s hand and looked towards the arena, where the first competitor was coming out to somehow fight the god damn dragon. ‘Apparently dragons make me anxious.’
‘It’s no problem.’
Race and Albert, sharing a look, stepped away so Jack and Davey were standing next to each other. They all turned their attention back to the action. Cedric Diggory looked tiny among the rocks and the dragon had apparently noticed him going for the golden egg. This was terrifying. Davey jumped at every movement down there and, after only a few minutes was watching through his fingers. Cedric was shooting curses to try and distract the creature and they were almost working - not well enough for Davey to be anything less than petrified. A shocking near miss involving a badly timed leap from the champion saw him jump and physically look away.
He felt a nudge from next to him and turned to see Jack smiling and offering his hand.
‘Might help?’
He looked down at the hand and back up at Jack. Part of him wanted to defend himself, say he didn’t need protecting, that he wasn’t even scared - but a way bigger part of him, a very sensible part of him, was on edge, and grateful for the comfort.
And Jack was pretty.
He took the had and held it tight. None of the champions died, and the protective stranger turned out to be good company. Jack managed to supply witticisms to offset the tension of what they were seeing, and Davey appreciated it as much as he appreciated having a hand to squeeze when things got edgy. Even if he’d just met the guy, comfort was comfort.
At the end he let Jack’s hand go with only some reluctance, cringing at the white imprint his fingers had made on Jack’s skin.
‘Sorry. And thanks.’
‘Don’t mention it.’ Jack flexed his hand (it was only moderately painful.) Students around them were emptying the arena fast. Albert and Race started to head off in different directions. Jack took a couple of steps backwards, following Race. ‘Maybe I’ll see you around?’
‘Maybe you will.’ Davey smiled, almost daring himself to ask Jack when he might see him around, but panicking at the last moment. He headed away with Albert.
Race stared, incredulous, at Jack. ‘”Maybe I’ll see you around?”’
‘Didn’t wanna come on too strong!’
‘You just held his had for almost two hours, Jack.’
Jack glanced back over his shoulder and caught a fleeting moment of eye contact with Davey who was doing the same.
‘It’s a good start, isn’t it?’

Davey went to watch the next task with Sarah. Again, he had been planning on staying in and studying, even with the potential draw of handsome strangers offering to protect him from danger. At the same time, he may or may not have been keeping an eye out for Jack Kelly in the week since they had met, and he hadn’t spotted him once. He might not even be at the event, and if he was, there was no guarantee Davey would see him.
Like he had even thought about it.
But Sarah had cornered him at breakfast and told him categorically that they were going on a sibling date to check out the foreign kids in their bathing suits. They ambled down to the hills to take a sailboat into the lake, clad in their big coats and knitted hats, using the opportunity to catch up.
‘What happened to the little kid who used to come and find me every mealtime, huh? Haven’t seen you in weeks.’ Sarah aimed a light kick at him from across the boat. Davey smiled as he remembered how scared he’d been of starting at Hogwarts.
‘I guess I thought that you’d be able to introduce me to people, but you weren’t as cool as you pretended to be.’
‘Excuse you! I happen to be very popular… among… my friends.’
‘You’re right, I’m very sorry, Sarah.’
‘I actually do have some exciting developments in the gal pal department. You know Katherine from seventh year?’
‘I know Katherine from seventh year.’ He clambered out of the boat up to the stand, reaching in to help her up.
‘I’ve been getting to know Katherine from seventh year.’ She grinned, pushing him towards the crowd. ‘We spent all day together in Hogsmeade last weekend and then we had an accidental sleepover by the lake.’
‘Ew. I’ve heard enough.’
‘Not like that, gross! But I am feeling really good about her.’
‘Is she not here today?’
‘No, she’s on press duties. How cool is that?’
‘That is cool. In fact, maybe too cool. Definitely too cool for you.’
‘Luckily she hasn’t realised that yet.’ She poked him in the chest. ‘Your turn.’
‘What?’
‘Anything on the horizon?’ They found a place at the front and Davey leaned over the railing, letting the cold air whip his face, trying to decide if “I met a hot guy a week ago” was sufficient gossip for Sarah.
‘Not really.’
‘Your pause was very telling, Davey.’
‘It’s nothing. There’s no-one.’
‘You’re not getting out of it that easy!’
‘Davey!’ He heard the voice over his shoulder and for a split second he was glad of the distraction, before he realised who it was. Oh boy. He turned to see Jack heading over. He smiled in greeting, ignoring Sarah’s raised eyebrows. ‘You look cold.’
‘Yeah, it’s the… cold.’ His cheeks turned even redder as Jack reached out and touched one gently.
‘Better than almost being set on fire, I guess.’
‘A lot of things are.’ Jack stood next to him, leaning on the rail, looking at Sarah. ‘I’m Jack.’
‘Sarah.’
‘Not crashing a date or something, am I?’
‘Not at all. This here’s my baby brother.’ She grinned at Davey, who had managed to blush harder.
‘Bet you could tell me some stories, huh?’
‘Depends what you wanna know.’
Davey cleared his throat. ‘Guys, it’s starting.’ He didn’t want their conversation going any deeper - he knew what Sarah was like. She loved him a lot but god, she liked making him squirm.
The four champions stepped forward and a distinct impressed mumble passed through the crowd. Jack took a few seconds to rake his eyes over Viktor Krum and his tiny red shorts, and piped up.
‘I’m gayer than I thought.’
Sarah, just barely hearing, was captivated by blonde hair and lycra.
‘Me too.’

During breakfast the day before the first task, an owl dropped a handwritten note into Davey’s porridge.
How about we meet at the last task on purpose?
It was complete with a little moving doodle of cartoon-Jack valiantl protecting cartoon-Davey from a dragon, a drawing that might have been embarrassing were it not, you know, true. All the same it made Davey chuckle quietly, and he pulled out his quill to scribble a yes. Hanging out with Jack at the second task had been fun, even if Davey felt like an asshole for letting Sarah be turned into the third wheel. Jack was funny, making quips about what the mermaids might have stolen from him, and how he’d go about trying to do the task (transforming into a giant squid and fucking up everyone and everything until they handed Crutchie back to him with an apology note.)
At the end when Katherine came over to find Sarah, having finished composing her report, Jack confessed that he’d lost his friends when he spotted Davey, so the two ended up sharing a boat back to the castle. It had all seemed to get very… date-like, something Davey was totally fine with of course, but he was a little reticent in acknowledging it, in case he’d misread all the signals. Even now, telling Jack that he’d like to go with him to the last task, he didn’t want to let himself get too hopeful about the two of them, telling himself that it was still a good thing that Jack wanted to hang out. Even without any… intentions.
He gave the note back to the owl and watched as it soared across the great hall, over to the Gryffindor table he’d spent so long looking for Jack at. It flew all the way to the end, by the door, and he sat up as straight as he could to spot him.
Jack was sitting at the very end of the table, backwards, which went some way to explaining why Davey had never been able to spot him before. He was talking animatedly to a kid at the Hufflepuff table, one who had similarly turned his back on his own housemates. Davey recognised him, it was the kid everyone called Crutchie - he assumed it was an affectionate nickname, but he couldn’t be sure. Now he had found Jack, he watched him read the reply, felt the violent sting of butterflies in his stomach when he saw Jack say something to Crutchie, and Crutchie react with sheer delight.
Then Jack looked over his shoulder and caught Davey staring. Crutchie waved. Davey blushed, obviously. But he smiled too.
They met by the front door and walked across to the arena in the twilight. Davey itched to reach out and take Jack’s hand but even though they’d been there and done that, it would have felt like an enormous assumption. He took his cues from Jack, the more confident of the two, who was interested in using the cold weather to his advantage. They found decent spots towards the back.
‘Who d’you think’s gonna take this?’ Davey asked as they stared down at the hedges.
‘As much as I wanna say one of our guys, I kind of want it to be Krum. But I think that’s just me falling for his charm.’
‘Is that your type?’ This felt like a very brazen and un-Davey thing to say, but he saw a tiny window and had to leap through it. Jack pretended to think about it for a moment.
‘You know, I’m not sure. I’m starting to think I prefer someone a little taller. Little cuter.’ He looked at Davey. ‘Little smarter.’
‘How do you know how smart he is?’
‘I know how smart you are. Odds are he don’t match up.’
Davey looked at the ground to hide the grin that forced it’s way on to his face. Jack bit his lip, shuffling from one foot to the other.
‘Sorry, that was too corny. You can tell me to stop it.’
‘I don’t really want you to stop it.’ He looked back up at Jack. The air was full of excitement. Student babbled incoherently around them, and suddenly they’d both admitted something. They were quiet amongst the chaos for a moment and it was Jack who, with a smile on his face, started to lean in.
Cheers exploded around them as they kissed for the first time and they took a couple of seconds to pretend it was for them, riding the high of what sounded like a Hogwarts victory, with their own personal wave of elation. It only lasted a moment, more sweet and searching than anything else.
Their resultant dopey grins fell quickly as they heard an anguished scream from the field. Something was wrong.
Reflexively Davey reached for Jack’s hand, seeking that comfort, as he tried to figure out what was going on. The news of Cedric’s death travelled up to them via murmurs in the crowd and catalysed the wave of unease that the castle wouldn’t shake for months, that contradicted fiercely with the new happiness Jack and Davey had found, and yet that gave them more reason to cling to each other.

I was shopping around for insurance quotes on my home and cars. Many of the websites that I came across claimed to offer the best quotes from different companies thereby getting me the best price. I started filling out a few forms and, for once, I decided to read the fine print ( you know that small font form we all click agree on). Basically what I found was that the company used 4 agencies that paid them to contact me. What the site was trying to advertise to me was that i would have he best possible quote in the world without having to call up the many insurance agencies around me individually. In reality the fine print ( which in the case of the Internet can be 25 clicks hidden) states that they offer quotes from companies that pay them. Why not state that the information I'm giving them is a lead and that people that get it pay for my information and those that don't do not get it. What about some insurance company that can't afford to pay for my information but can offer me cheaper insurance than those that do pay hat site? Hello everyone, I am an international student who's been in the USA (Buffalo, NY) for the past 2 years working hard on my masters (i'm 25 now). I bought a POS Saturn last year for 2000 dollars and, well, for that i needed to get car insurance since it's mandatory in this country. Since i was from abroad and i had a learner's permit at the time, i had to get insurance with my international license. Progressive was my only choice so i paid around 700$ for 6 months. That's the rate I've been paying for the last year. Unfortunately, i just don't have the money anymore to pay 700 more dollars for the next 6 months. I tried different insurance companies but they are all around the same range. Apparently, i was stupid enough to not get a credit card as soon as i landed in this country. I was raised with the if you don't have money, don't spend it philosophy so i just used my debit card. This is the only reason that i can see for these absurd rates. Every single one of my friends ( all international students ) pay around 200-250/six months dollars for their pieces of crap cars. I just feel like i'm not being given a fair deal. Not having any credit might put a penalty on me, i understand somewhat how a capitalist mind works... let's say about 100-150 more dollars for 6 months, but a whopping 500 $ ? Don't you think it's kind of messed up that first of all it's mandatory, and then there's no baseline to at least make sure that noone gets ripped off. Okay, so here is the story. i was in a private McDonald's car park when the was car meet event, nothing official boy racers if your wish, the car parks were full to the brim with cars parked all over the place, with hardly any lighting at 10 o clock as night, visibility wasn't at its best. i was stuck in a Que of traffic trying to get out of the car park, when the car in front started reversing for what ever reason, so i put my car into reverse, had a glance in the rear view mirror which really was no help because of the poor lighting. I let my foot of the brake as the car in front stated reversing an with in milliseconds i herd people shouting, so i stopped and got out, there was a car right behind me must have on been cm away, with a massive dent in the drivers door. although i didn't even feel a thing i quickly apologised and began to sort the problem. i have no clue whether the driver had his lights on or not. i suspected that i couldn't have done it because i had barely moved and there was no damage to my car what so ever. Although this being my first accident i was nerves so took responsibility. We both decided to sort it out between our selves, i didn't want my insurance to go up as it is high enough already as a young driver, he said he would need a new door and i agreed due to the size of the dent, so he found one on eBay for 150 and would take nothing but that as i only had 100 in the bank at the time we drove to the cash machine he took the 100 and we agreed that i would pay him the other 50 in two weeks when i got paid, i writ a receipt to say that i had paid him this money and there was a following 50 to come, with his signature and address phone number ext... two weeks later herd nothing although i kept the money aside for a couple more weeks just in case, but still herd nothing after over a month he texts me asking for the 50 which i no longer have, i explain to him that he has left if for over month and now expects it instantly. Now he says he is going to put in an insurance claim, which i cant no see happening due to 2 reasons 1. he has already tried to sort it him self and failed to because of a fault of his own 2. because he was on a private car park at an illegal car meet Am i right? or is there anything i should do or know about this situation.
