Got to the opera house early to take some quick pics and no, I didn't wear that glittery bustier thingy. As it turns out, I'm waaaaay too shy to go out on my own wearing something like that. I'd have to be on someone's arm with that kind of cleavage on display. 😂 That said, I do think my green velvet dress worked nicely. In general, the clothing ranged from evening gowns (?!) to jeans, so I think I was okay. By the way, I did receive an email from the Staatsoper telling me what NOT to wear (ripped jeans, big hat, etc.) and they will turn you away no matter how much you paid for your ticket.
The complete strangers people I shared my box with were very nice and it was a lovely evening - even if Tosca is depressing as fuck. Jealousy, betrayal, sexual blackmail, murder, suicide... beautiful music though. 🎶😢😬🌹💔
Having the subtitles available for each seat was nice, but I didn't use them. If you have a general idea of the libretto, what's the point? Reading the text becomes a distraction...
I had to work my way through the scene below arriving and leaving... and without a drop of alcohol to calm my nerves. Not tripping and falling down that magnificent staircase was the only thing on my mind. I don’t think my heart stopped racing until the end of Act 1.
And here's me back in the safety of my hotel room - obviously tired, but absolutely over the moon that I’d had such a wonderful time and that I hadn’t fallen down the stairs or otherwise made a fool of myself. 😅
130 years ago, same date, same weekday this performance of the rare played Opera „Merlin“ from Carl Goldmark was on stage in Vienna, today Wiener Staatsoper. curious: I can not find this performance in the Archive from the Operahouse on this date. But a rare document.
the wiener staatsoper: oh no sonya yoncheva and roberto alagna have cancelled for our revival of la juive
the smart thing to do: *find other singers who know the roles. admittedly there aren’t a lot and they’re not as starry but there are some.*
what the wiener staatsoper decides to do: *cancels the revival entirely and replaces it with a single performance of carmen and four performances of la bohème, three of which star…anna netrebko*
