Seeing your puppers just reminded me I once seen a Doberman that was white and cream, with a pink nose, not sure what color her eyes were since I seen her from a distance, I had to do a double take when i saw her to make sure it was a Doberman. Have you ever seen any with this coloring?

Hello Anon! I'm grateful for the question and the chance to educate, and somewhat amused to tell you you've stumbled on one of the hot-button issues in our breed! As such, this answer will be a little long and I apologize in advance!

So Dobermans come in 4 Recognized, Approved colors (in the US. In other countries/Kennel Clubs, the diluted colors are not usually recognized or approved of) naturally. Now, these colors are (all with color points that may be described as tan or rust) Black, Red, Blue (diluted black), and Fawn or Isabella (diluted red). You get breeders that breed non-dilutes only, meaning they produce only blacks and reds. OR those that breed lines that carry and produce combinations of 2-4 colors. In the US/AKC and also in Canada (last I checked) all 4 of these colors could be shown to a Championship in Conformation as well as compete in all the sports!

That being said! On to the white dog you saw! Some time way back a rather unscrupulous breeder had a white puppy turn up in their program. (This puppy would grow up to be known as "Sheba".) While a responsible person would have recognized this to be not correct, and not produced further, this person saw a $$$ opportunity, bred the dog as an adult, then bred white offspring back to the parent and siblings to solidify and expand the white. (They also falsified documentation, lied about colors on the puppies, and probably a whole lot more!) Anyway, Sheba is the first Doberman the Kennel Club and Breed Club have a record of displaying this trait (but of course, it could have happened earlier to a non-surviving animal).

The problem? Well, the 'white' coloring occurring in Dobermans is a form of Albinism. (This can range from an "all white" dog to a pale white/cream marked dog).

What? Yes, that's right! White Dobermans are affected by Albinism! "But Toni!" I hear you yelling. "How can that be? Their eyes aren't red or pink!"

That's correct! However, it is still a type of Albinism called Oculocutaneous Albinism. The eyes are often a clear or watery blue, but they frequently have pink eye rims, noses, lips etc.

Even in the 80's these dogs were: hyperactive fear biters, prone to solar skin damage, and photosensitive. In the years since they've also had issues with coat loss, skin lesions, and melanocytic tumors/skin cancer. There are also visual issues that add to temperament problems and result in them often being rehomed/dumped in rescues.

Unscrupulous characters still try to market them with buzzwords like: cream, platinum, rare, white, etc. They're still all albinistic, poorly bred, sure to have a laundry list of health issues, and all around pretty sad. Those passionate about Dobermans, the standard and conservation get pretty upset when we spy people (especially celebrities) hyping or flaunting albinos. They're not rare in a desirable sense, they have a couple bad genes and a laundry list of health defects that lead to a fairly miserable (and expensive) life.

Short List of Facts:

*The first spontaneously born albino Doberman was born in November 10, 1976. Her name was Padula’s Queen Sheba (“Sheba”), AKC Registration No. WE166747.

*The DPCA later instituted a mechanism to track all descendants of Padula’s Queen Sheba which is referred to as the Z-list or Z-tracking. (Dogs from this line are registered with a "Z" in their registered number on file with the Kennel Club! You can look up archives of early descendants with notes about some of the early falsified papers/colors of her descendants.)

Anyway, all this to say I have interacted with albino Dobermans that have found their way into rescue scenarios... Frequently they're fairly young (2-5), displaying many of the health issues above, and have at least found their way to people that can purchase them all the protective gear they need to even go outside (clothing, eye coverings, boots are all often employed to minimize sun exposure). They make me sad, knowing their breeder cared more about money than producing a sound, healthy, happy dog. :(

I fully advocate for buying from a (responsible preservation) breeder or rescuing from a RESPONSIBLE, WELL RESEARCHED rescue organization. (There are bad breeders out there, puppy mills and brokers, there are bad rescues that breed dogs just so they can keep up their product and continue to generate cash... You have to do your research, kids.) You've heard of Adopt Don't Shop? Forget It. Adopt Or Shop RESPONSIBLY. No matter what, money is changing hands. Make the smartest, best purchase you can.

I know buying from a pet store or the first breeder you come across with puppies is tempting. Puppies are cute! ALL PUPPIES ARE CUTE. Well-bred and poorly bred! But the poorly bred ones almost always wind up living a less comfortable (and frequently shorter) life than the well-bred animals. You DEFINITELY pay more for them too, in the short run (initial price tag) and also long run (vet bills etc). I know this can sound like the same old party line but I fully do believe if people STOP SUPPORTING IRRESPONSIBLE BREEDERS/PUPPY MILLS, THEY WON'T MAKE MONEY AND WILL FIND SOMETHING ELSE TO DO.

If you 100010% don't want to go to a breeder, many of the Breed Clubs (or State Breed Clubs) have or work with their own breed rescue. Breed rescues are awesome resources for information about the breed, as well as purebreds that may not have been dealt the best hand in their lives and are in need of a second chance. IF you want an Albino, please, PLEASE make sure you're financially prepared to take care of them. PLEASE get them from a rescue. Please don't buy them from someone that is just cracking them out for the money and touting them as rare. Again, their poor health means they are more expensive than a well-bred purebred dog in a correct color would be.

There are plenty of Doberman owners and enthusiasts happy to point you in the right direction for a healthy companion that suits your needs. Want to show? There are breeders for that. Sports? Oh yes. Bite work? Sure. Service Dogs? Heck yeah! You can even find breeders that produce dogs that can do it all! You just have to be ready to put in some work with research, some patience, and some funds. In the long run, you get a healthier, happier pet, a better partner, and you will honestly spend less. (Have you looked at pet store prices? It's outrageous! Then you double it with vet bills. NOPE.) Anyway, this ran the hell away from me but I GOT A LOT OF FEELINGS Y'ALL.

Annual post saying you don't want an albino doberman. Why?

Would you believe me if I told you all of these albino dogs have eyes? They just can't see and are forced to squint in bright sunlight because they are extremely photosensitive due to a lack of melanin protecting the eye.

Two correctly colored dogs compares to an albino. It's not that the sunlight is extremely bright, or else the other two would also be squinting. It's that even a normal amount of sunlight is too much for an albino dog to handle without pain, so they squint their eyes shut instead.

In fact, you'll notice that any photo where an albino dog has its eyes open is taken inside, in the shade, or on an overcast day. There's a reason for that.

What Pets the Saw Cast Has

Adam - a stray cat that he began feeding. I like to think it’s a grey tabby cat, rather skinny but only friendly to him. I like to think it’s name is Smokey.

The Gordons - a Golden Retriever that is only 2 by the events of Saw 1. He was a Christmas present for Diana and she named him Sunny. Lawrence really takes to him after the events of the bathroom. Lawrence is the one who signed the adoption papers so Sunny stays with him, but Diana visits and Allison allows her to pop over to Lawrence’s to walk Sunny on the weeks Diana stays with Allison.

Daniel - He has a Doberman Pinscher by the name of General. General was actually Eric’s dog, but after Eric went missing Daniel began taking care of him. Daniel has a cage with 5 rats in his room. He has a brown rat named Chocolate, an albino rat named Sugar, a spotted rat named Cookie, a rat with curled whiskers named Wurly and a cream rat named Mocha. Amanda felt bad so she anonymously got a small Pitbull puppy for Daniel which he named Amanda, after her.

The Denlons - Corbette has a Guinea Pig named Rex. Dylan had a hamster named Rocky who Corbette took care of after Dylan’s death. Lynn is the only one who also looks after the pets.

Amanda - Has a reptile named Mary and a tarantula named Jane. Yes, she named them after marijuana. She still had them when she was living in the Gideon Meat Packing Factory.

Hoffman - Has a German Shepherd named Joe, lovingly nicknamed “Asshole” cause he keeps destroying Hoffman’s shoes.

Strahm - Peter has a chinchilla named Sandy. Peter became obsessed with chinchillas as a child after seeing one at a zoo so he was determined to get one.

Perez - Her parents have an old English Shepherd by the name of Batsy. He is blind by age and is developing arthritis. He was put down shortly after Hoffman killed Perez.

Easton - Has a Sphinx cat (suggested by Fi in a Discord server). The cat is named Arabelle, and she never liked John. William figured out why a bit too late.

John - Found a random stray mutt in the meat factory. He adopted it and named it Gideon. He even got a collar and a dog bed for him. Gideon was asleep in another room when John and Amanda died.

Morgan - Got a puppy named Cranberry after Rex died. She got it so her daughter had something to comfort her while grieving. Cranberry is a King Charles Cavalier Spaniel.

Logan - Has a Golden Retriever named Lucky. His daughter loves playing fetch with him. Lucky is in training to be a service dog to help Logan with his PTSD.

Hi! Albino Doberman anon. Just wanted to thank for the very informative info! I only knew about two of the colors, so I learned something new! So if you have any more knowledge to drop (about anything really) I always love learning something new. But after reading your response about the albinos, makes me mad but not surprised. I wish ppl would prioritize the health of animals.

Hello Anon. I'm sorry it's been a bit but I've honestly been holding this ask and chirping happily to myself on bad days. I'm really glad the information was helpful to you! I did touch on the topic of different kennel clubs having different standards including what colors they recognize. So I'm going to assume that the two colors you were familiar with are Red & Black, & I'm going to assume you're in Europe or somewhere the standard only calls for those two? Because I've never been, I'm honestly not sure how common the dilute colors are over there, truth be told. I have some friends with some imported bitches that have thrown color, but I don't know of any actual dilute stock on that side of the world. (Keep in mind I'm owning they can't quite make a name for themselves as they're not considered approved by the standards of those countries. So if they appear, even if they're lovely, they likely aren't doing much. I get that. If it's happening, it's a shame, I feel. 'No good dog is a bad color' comes to mind in those cases. Dilution is a naturally occurring factor and a separate matter from albinism that again goes back to one animal.)

I have some friends that do some really marvelous infographics and run instagrams with good info. I'm not sure if you'd be wanting to follow them? I could do a recommendation post? Any chance you'll be looking for a dobe in the future? It would be nice to have another doberman buddy. (I mean even if not, it'd be nice to meet you or have a name to go with the little gray face!) And if you have any specific questions I'd be happy to answer. I can also ramble too but that might get a little twisty, without direction I can just run, lol! Remember all the buzzwords for dogs of incorrect color are HYPE words to sell a product! You can find folks breeding incorrect colors in tons of breeds. The most recent examples I've seen: Frenchies, Bulldogs, Dobermans; in Aussies & Danes it'll likely be Double Merles. They'll also say things like Lilac, Fluffy, Rare, Platinum, Cream, etc.

Since daybreak things were bizarre—a cacophony of events making the man nearly writhe in frustration as he sat in the plush interior of a limousine with a cigarette in hand. It's nursed with intensity, black lipstick smudged across the filter as a deep groan of annoyance escapes him, his onyx eyes glancing out the tinted window to look at the familiar street. Soon enough he'd be home, locked up in his villa where he could decompress in the only ways he knew how.

A sudden stop jerks him forward, a hand catching himself before he can tumble to the ground⸻❝ Cazzo! Watch it ! ❞ The pink-haired male barks in irritation, his eyes lifting to stare into the rearview mirror at the driver's reflection. The man merely nods with wide eyes. As Diavolo settles back into his seat, his eyes pay a glance out the other window, watching a black cat run away without injury⸻A black cat crossing his path as well? Just what the fuck was going on?

For the remainder of the drive his chest heaves, a perpetual pounding within his ribcage as the cigarette is snuffed out in an ashtray. The instant they pull up to the villa he gets out on his accord, slamming the door as he makes a stride to his front door, his keys fished out from his custom suit's pockets so that he may enter the house. Immediately the boss is greeted by a behemoth of a dog who seems somewhat riled up only to calm and stare at his master in confusion.❝ Ebano. . . ❞ Diavolo approaches, a hand outstretched for the Doberman-Great Dane mix to sniff, and almost instantly it begins wandering down the hall, looking back to Diavolo expectantly.

With a sigh he follows, his suit jacket removed and tucked into his arm as the dog leads him through the villa, all the way to his office. Imagine his surprise when he opens the door and finds a bloodied figure on the floor with Avorio ( his other Doberman-Great Dane mix, this one albino and female ). That familiar pounding in his chest comes back as wide eyes narrow, his foot further pushing the door open to enter the office alongside Ebano who sits between them calmly, looking back and forth in confusion before laying down.

❝ Who are you ? ❞ The jacket is discarded on an armchair as he tosses it aside, his anger swelling with each passing moment as the flexible desk light is turned on and aimed at the body in the corner⸻he didn't care if the intruder was blinded, he merely wanted a good look, and once he can witness the visage across from him he pauses, blinking a few times to be sure he can trust his eyes. He was no stranger to hallucinations, but Avorio and Ebano assured him that such wasn't currently happening. . .So why was his youth looking at him in fear and confusion, covered in blood ?

❝ How did you get in here ? ❞ The tie around his neck is loosened as he turns to approach a small drink cart in the room where he begins to fix a whiskey on the rock. ❝⸻Smotret. ❞ Immediately Ebano stands up, baring his teeth as he growls at the. . .boy with intention, really all he needed was Diavolo's order despite there being no current threats of violence from the intruder. The pink-haired male looks back over his shoulder, an eyebrow raised to observe if the boy would fight back, after a moment he gives another command. ❝. . .Nazad. ❞ And Ebano steps back, still baring his teeth, his tongue licking at his jowls as the animal glances at Avorio, then to Diavolo. After a few moments, Diavolo approaches with two drinks in his hand, squatting down to meet the other's eyes.

❝ Are you injured ? ❞ A hand holding ice water extends, offering it with a firm expression of expectation. If and when Doppio takes it, Diavolo uses his free hand to meet Ebano's head to pet the animal. ❝ Pauza. . . . . .I expect you to tell me everything if you want to see the sunrise. I think that's only fair.❞ A murmur, and with the command Ebano relaxes and lays back down as Diavolo takes a long steady sip of his drink, a heavy sigh leaving his lips as he awaits a response.

Bo is all bark and no bite, except for when he isn't haha. Your Frankie is all growling and sneezing because sneezing is how dogs show they are just playing. My Frankie is just well, silly mode zoomies give him a box.

So yes, he does need a muzzle. And a bell on his collar because he can and will sneak attack so he needs to be given a noisy thing.

Now onto them as well like actual dog and cat breeds because for some reason I'm thinking about it.

Also, dobermans are known to be absurdly protective so that's why Bo is a doberman.

Since Bo would be a doberman, I say your Frankie would be a husky + Australian shepherd mix*, and my Frankie is just an albino kitty cat, maybe a Bengal or Abyssinian breed specifically.

*Huskies being very vocal doggies and Australian shepherds are energetic so that's why I went for that breed mix for your Frankie.

Also, Vincent would be a doberman as well since twins. Lester would be like, pug Labrador mix or doberman Labrador mix he just has those Labrador vibes.

Honestly the thing that gets me the most about a lot of these outcross projects is this:

At some point earlier in the year, someone [with a Z-list, but not carrying the albino gene, dobe] asked what it would take for good breeders to take them seriously. A good breeder responded, and the response was not popular.

Get a good bitch from a good breeder. Health tested, titled parents. No Z list, no unknown pedigrees. Raise her up, train her and title her to at least a 1 but preferably a 3. Realistically since there’s only so old a maiden bitch can be before asking her to carry a litter is simply unfair, if you can’t get to 1 before the deadline, then fine. You can always add numbers after her breeding if you run out of time to do it before.

Fully health test her. Breed her to a fully health tested dog with a 3. Preferably, if you can, get the stud tested both to his breed-specific standards and also to dobe-specific standards, even if that means you have to pay out of pocket to the stud owner to get these tests done. Once the litter is born, keep a dog and a bitch from that litter.

Raise both puppies- the dog should be a 3 before he breeds since collection is a thing that’s very possible to do. The bitch, again, preferably a 3 but if 1 is the best we get before the clock starts ticking then fine. Fully health test them- both dobe-specific problems and whatever breeds we brought in. Breed the dog to a bitch held to the same standards as the foundation. Breed the bitch to a stud held to the standard of her father. Whatever you breed to create the second generation should be as unrelated as possible to the first. Repeat.

This is how good working dobe breeders create their foundational lines- of course exclusively doberman-to-doberman. Why should they expect anything less from someone claiming to want to better the breed?

Reasons this was an unpopular suggestion:

1- titles don’t mean everything. And it’s true, titles don’t mean everything. I personally know IGP3 dogs that I would never buy a dog from, and untitled dogs that I think should be bred. But the fact of the matter is that a title, at the very least, is a scoring from a third, uninvolved party on your dog’s instincts, drive, temperament, and trainability. Scorebooks reveal where dogs struggle, but the title is better than “yeah man he’s totally protective”.

2- but I don’t waaaaaaant to do protection. Tough tiddies. This is a working, protection breed. Strength of character and solid nerve and ability/desire to move forward with aggression are all things the breed struggles with and they’re all things that need to be improved upon. If you don’t want a working protective dog then you do not want a doberman. You just want a friendly, happy dog with a doberman paintjob, and that means you are the one chasing aesthetic.

3- but protection work is hard. And? You thought fixing a breed that literally drops dead without warning would be easy? Doberman people are already following that format in their own breeding programs, the least you can do is actually put in the same amount of effort.
