Child of the Gods- Chapter One
"Amethyst!" My father's voice rang out from somewhere else in the palace.
"Yes?" I called back, turning away from my Iris message.
"Can I see you for a moment?"
"Be there in a minute!" I answered. I turned back to my seashell fountain displaying an Iris message to by best friend Carissa. "My dad needs me for something," I told her.
"I heard," she replied with a smile through the mist of the fountain. "I'll see you when Lady Artemis and I come to pick you up."
"Alluris isn't going to be there?" I asked.
"No, Lady Artemis sent her out to inquire about something." She replied.
    "AMETHYST!!"
"I'm coming," I yelled in response.
"Bye!" Carissa waved as the message faded out.
I sighed before getting up and exiting my room to see what my father wanted. I walked down the spiraling staircase to the main floor of the palace and found my father in the throne room facing the wall the thrones were against.
"AMETHYST!!!" My father's voice boomed throughout the expansive room.
I stood behind him and cleared my throat. "I told you I was coming."
He jumped in surprise before turning to face me. "I didn't expect you to already be here."
"What did you need?" I asked, attempting to get to the point.
"Your sister Rhode is coming to visit." He informed me as he marveled at the spotless marble floor. "I'll have to thank my servants, even more, they did a splendid job."
"I'm going out with Lady Artemis and Ismene in an hour like I always do," I said, lifting my father's trident from leaning against his throne. I set it on the ground next to me like a staff as my father always does.
Poseidon smiled and plucked his trident from my hand. "I know, she is arriving once you return." He handed his trident to his main crustacean hand, Sebastian.
"So he's allowed to hold it, but I'm not?" I asked with a frown.
"You are allowed to hold my trident, Amethyst. If you were not my daughter and a mortal, I would have blasted you into nothing but a puddle of sea water." He countered.
"Whatever," I said rolling my eyes, "May I please get out of speaking with Rhode today?"
"Are you not excited to see your sister?" He asked.
"Not particularly, she always recounts tales of her island. Never once asking about my life." I explained.
Poseidon smiled and placed a reassuring hand on my shoulder. "Lady Artemis has told me today you are accompanying her to the woods near Olympia, Washington in North America. Perhaps you sister would like to hear you discuss your trips around the mortal world hunting."
I rolled my eyes, "I honestly doubt it, Father. She'll just go on and on about me needing to find a boyfriend because Helios is SO amazing."
"I don't think you're ready for a boyfriend, Amethyst." He replied.
"I know I'm not," I answered. "I need to finish getting ready. I'll see you later."
                                                      *****
"Amethyst! Artemis is here for you!!" My mother called.
    "Coming!!" I announced in return.
I lifted the silk of my dress and rushed out of my room and down the stairs, eager to see my friends. I took hold of the golden palace doors, ready to tear them open and rush down the stairs.
"You aren't going to tell you lovely parents goodbye?"
I whirled around to see my father and mother standing behind me. My mom offered a shy wave. I would have rolled my eyes in annoyance, but every second I spend here is another second closer to the time I'll have to speak with my dreadful sister Rhode. I ran up to my parents and squished them together in a hug. "I love you guys!! See you when I get back!" I gave them each a kiss on the cheek before turning back around and running out the palace doors.
I was temporarily blinded by the intense rays of light the second I stepped outside.
"Amethyst, please close the door! You're blinding everyone!" My mother yelled.
I shielded my eyes as best as I could and pushed the door closed behind me. "Can you guys tone down the lights?!?!" I yelled.
"Sorry, Amethyst! I got it." A male voice called.
The harsh rays disappeared as I opened my eyes. "What are you doing here Apollo?" I asked, running up to him.
"I'm transporting you guys today. I haven't seen you in a while Gem, how's it going?" He asked, pulling me into his arms and death squeezing me.
"Same as always," I replied, hugging him back.
"Isn't it cool your father's palace is above ground?" He asked, looking down at me.
"You ask that every time, and every time I tell you the EXACT same answer. My father's palace does sink underwater, but he has it float to the surface on an island because you all can't breathe underwater." I said, releasing my hold on him.
"You aren't any fun, Gem." He pouted, releasing me.
"No hug for me, Ami?" My best friend asked.
"Of course you can have a hug," I said pulling her into my arms and squeezing her.
Once Carissa and I had separated, Lady Artemis wrapped an arm around my shoulders and side hugged me "We better be going if we are to make it back in time." She turned to me with a smirk. "I hear you have a special meeting with the lovely Rhode this afternoon."
"I do." I sighed. "I'm relying on you guys to distract me until then."
"Can do," Apollo said, hopping into his chariot. "Climb in everyone."
Artemis rolled her eyes, "Brother, do you truly believe a golden chariot flying across they sky isn't going to seem suspicious to mortals?"
"Oh right," Apollo muttered. He threw a silver cloth over the entire chariot making it disappear. "Problem solved!" He declared.
"Now we'll just look like we're floating," I said as I stepped onto the invisible floor of the chariot.
Apollo pulled out another silver cloth. "Everyone get on and get under this." His sister looked at him skeptically as she boarded the chariot and had the silver fabric tossed over her. "Problem solved again! I'm such a genius." He said, clearly proud of himself.
"I beg to differ," Artemis exclaimed.
