#and focusing on just Hinata and kenma absolutely is the right call in that situation

every time I read something from the hq!! movie director talking about how difficult it was to cut down three volumes into one movie and that they had to focus basically on just hinata and kenma i get such a deep feeling of dread that my beloved chapter 298 won’t be animated, but then i remember that at jump fest kuroos voice actor said one of his favorite recording moments was hearing uchiyama, tsukkis VA, say the “volleyball is fun” line and i feel a liiiittle better bc surely SURELY if he says that line then they’re going to include the buildup to it with the serve and block and the flashbacks right, right???
like the whole scene can’t be more than two minutes of screen time so they can fit it in yeah? and we’ve seen two different angles of yamaguchi serving in the PVs so like he’s in the movie, he’s serving, so it’s gonna be there right…

hi can u write smth on like headcanons on what type of person would tsukki tendou iwaizumi and kenma crush on 👁👄👁
ooh funfun. this is something i do a lot for characters i write about to make the reader character realistic, so this is right up my alley :3 this focuses primarily on personality rather than physical types (with a small exception)
*just a heads up, this is LONG
the type of person they crush on w/ Tsukishima, Tendou, Iwaizumi, & Kenma
*****
Tsukishima
for Tsukki it wouldn’t necessarily be someone exactly like him, but they’d have definite similarities
they’d earn his respect before they’d get his heart
hands down this person needs to have a thick skin. i think generally Tsukki doesn’t outright insult or harshly tease (like with Hinata & Kags) the people he really cares about or has affection for (look at his relationship with Yamaguchi), but he is blunt and sometimes unintentionally snaps or is just straight up mean
if someone is easily affected by that, it’s a no go, sorry
not to say they couldn’t get their feelings hurt, and he would feel bad especially if his crush had already developed, but initially there would need to be a resistance or retort to that kind of thing. they’d understand that his words come from a place of both honesty and care, and any lashing out is just a result of stress and unresolved emotion
yeah he’d be attracted to intelligence and wit
part of me just thinks he enjoys mental stimulation and someone who can make him think not only piques his interest in the person but also makes him enjoy and look forward to spending time with them
at the same time, being able to enjoy comfortable silence is important too
and wit. he’d definitely tease someone he has a crush on though and i’ll tell you why
he has two goals: get them flustered or get them to smile/laugh genuinely
he’d love someone that can tease back, and makes him work for a reaction
and--this is important--makes him smile and laugh
speaks fluent sarcasm
not a pushover, and not afraid to call him out when he goes too far
they probably have weird habits or specific tastes or something, which he picks up on as the perceptive guy he is occasionally he uses them as fodder for teasing
they’d be someone with layers ha shrek or with personas they switch between easily, like going from sweet to stone-faced roaster
to tack onto the mental stimulation, you know how Yachi said Tsukki treats everything logically and approaches his blocking like a difficult test question? to an extent the same would apply to that person
he’d be figuring out how they tick, what makes them laugh, etc, and in the process of that it turns into a different kind of interest
it takes him a bit to figure out why exactly he likes seeing their smile or spending time with them, or why he cares so much
a certain subtle air of confidence
i think Tsukki would appreciate music taste
someone who is caring and generous, but doesn’t make a big deal out of it
they’d quietly offer help to a classmate if they noticed they’re struggling, or bring back an extra drink for him from the vending machine like it’s the most casual thing in the world
someone that cares about themselves, but not obsessed with themselves
to quote a favorite song of mine: sweet with a mean streak (not mean really, but not afraid to bite back)
* * *
Tendou
simply put, it wouldn’t be any average person
there would be something about the person that initially caught his eye, something unique that makes them stand out just a little
examples of this could be: a sharp tongue, a book or manga they always have on their desk, a keychain, dyed hair, wearing headphones all the time (he wonders what they’re listening to)
these would be things that make him interested and start paying attention to the person, eventually even striking up a conversation
in terms of personality, I think he’d enjoy someone with a sense of humor. obviously we know he can get along with most people regardless of that (ushijima) even if not everyone understands him, but someone that isn’t thrown off by his dramatic personality and responds in kind would definitely excites him
he likes to chatter, so a good listener and/or someone that’s a good conversationalist would be great tbh
and i’ll just say it, if this person is a manga/anime fan, or just knowledgeable on pop culture in general immediate bonus points. shared passions are great
an acknowledging smile or greeting, especially before they’re acquainted, actually goes a long way bc he has a history of being shunned and mocked by his peers. just that simple kindness which is unfortunate that not treating someone like that would be seen as kind is really important to him before he realizes it
a huge thing i think for him is feeling comfortable being himself around them. that itself allows him to be more open with his emotions and actually develop a crush
so going back to humor and a teasing relationship, it would need to be the type that doesn’t insult things like looks or anything like that. he has a history of insecurity that is still probably present, even if he’s mostly dealt with it, but again, being comfortable is huge. tasteful and dumbass humor only
someone who’s not afraid to say what’s on their mind. he appreciates that kind of directness, and finds it entertaining to an extent
there’s also a certain unpredictability and spontaneity with this person that keeps him on his toes and excites him. he loves a challenge
he’d love someone who shamelessly compliments him. truthfully it’s a bit of an ego thing, but in a specific way:
for Tendou, volleyball is his safe haven. that’s where he grew his confidence and skill and made his friends, so it feels nice for him to have someone appreciate the things he’s good at and cares about when he’s worked so hard for it
and he loves looking and feeling cool, and being showered in compliments is a great confidence booster heyhey seratonin
he’d love to make them laugh
if they compliment something like his looks, humor, passion, etc that will always really touch his heart. he’d brush it off with an “i know right~?” but in reality he’s freaking out because those are important parts of his self that have really been ignored or unrecognized by most people
this person would become another safe haven where he feels accepted and confident, and genuinely enjoys being around <3
* * *
Iwaizumi
the first thing i thought of for Iwa is someone authentic
a person who is true to themselves and the people around them
he despises fake people. those types were usually the ones always confessing to Oikawa or improving themselves for him. he just thinks it’s wrong
a nice laugh. i don’t mean pretty and refined necessarily, but one that is genuine and contagious and unforced
maybe it is a naturally pretty or refined laugh, but what matters is that it’s a laugh that is theirs, not for anyone else. that’s what’s attractive to him and makes his heart speed up when he hears it
a person who is thoughtful, considerate, and compassionate. like Tsukishima, he appreciates the quiet type of kindness
but he finds it amusing when they get just a little flustered when another person points it out
another little thing, but he’d probably find someone who’s a bad flirter absolutely adorable
he’d appreciate someone emotionally intelligent and perceptive
this is a person that is usually aware of how others are feeling and is able to adjust themselves to be the most effective in that situation
for example, they can adjust their own behavior to make someone feeling nervous at ease or defuse an angry person getting out of hand
this means their advice and comments are taken much better
tbh i could see him liking someone both reserved or incredibly expressive
so they could be the type that’s an extroverted hard-to-hate ball of sunshine, or a calm individual who’s respected and whose presence is appreciated by everyone
either way, he’d notice it
this is really the exception to the ‘disliking fake people’ thing
and he’s a hot-headed, tough-love kind of guy. his caring nature is often hidden behind that behavior
so he’d admire that kind of social ability and understanding
another thing that i immediately thought of for what he’s attracted to: passion and ambition
what their passion is is less important than the fire in their eyes when the topic comes up, or they talk about their aspirations and huge, sometimes unattainable goals
this doesn’t mean they have their life figured out, but they care both about the future and living in the moment
this is just a hunch, but he’d probably be more inclined to like an athlete or someone that takes care of their body and physical conditioning
someone who challenges him to be better. someone who understands what it means to be proud and understanding your own imperfections at the same time
a vocal supporter
whether it’s yelling his name from the stands when he makes a spike, or encouraging him to follow his passions after high school, or bragging about him to their friends, having someone unapologetically express their belief in him just makes his heart soar
but really, he likes someone who can cheer him on and tell it like it is when he needs it. he’s a pretty tough cookie so he doesn’t mind bluntness (actually prefers it)
i see him liking someone who can surprise him too
the kind of person to hit him up at midnight to go for a drive under the stars or have a dance party in the park to music from a bluetooth speaker
a passionate, authentic, and level-headed adventurer
* * *
Kenma
i’ve written so much Kenma recently lots of these traits are probably obvious lmao
first things first, he just needs to be able to vibe with them
it sounds obvious, but it’s really important. just being able to exist and not feel pressure to be someone he’s not is huge
another boy who loves comfortable silence, or someone who can talk and not mind him being minimally responsive sometimes because he is listening he’s just quiet
he’s an actions>words type of person though
so if they ask about his passions and actually show interest in him that’s great, and he notices, but following through is even better
examples: remembering his favorite flavors, engaging in conversation about the game he’s playing then the next day asking if he beat that level he was stuck on, asking how the tournament went when he mentioned how tired he was from consecutive preparatory practices the week before
things that show they do pay attention, and they do care
someone who looks out for him
this comes in many forms: bringing him a drink and snack bc you know he’s been up all night binging a new game and is probably dehydrated and hungry, or gently guiding him by the arm when he’s got his nose in his game and would definitely walk into traffic, or taking over in a conversation when they recognize he’s just hit his social quota
again, actions>words
along with this interest in him, trying to playfully get him to smile or get a reaction out of him would be annoying at first, but eventually would get him more and more flustered
sound contradictory to what i said before about him needing to feel not pressured? it is a little bit. he doesn’t get it either
really it’s the fact that this person wants to show the way he already feels
okay like Tendou, i feel like i have to say that if they play games or at least are knowledgeable about them, or even want to learn about them, it’s immediate bonus points
it’s one of his two loves. they don’t even have to be good at games as long as they can engage or listen to his rant about the history of a series or how the game mechanics differ between two different platformers and why one may be considered smoother gameplay, but it’s actually more restrictive--
you get it
someone who just casually checks in. “how are you doing?” then moves on and doesn’t make a big deal, but will listen if he needs to vent
like Iwa, he likes someone who’s straightforward and genuine
and like Tendou, there’s something about them that is unique that he latches onto
needs someone “interesting” that always brings some new experience
like Tsukki, he likes mental stimulation why do i keep using the others as examples lmao
they need to have a sense of humor. may surprise you, but he is bffs with Kuroo, and someone witty is someone who’s interesting
he’s always got a lot on his mind, he’s always thinking
they’d need to be someone he feels comfortable conversing with and sharing his thoughts with, and is a good and responsive listener
some sort of intellectual capability
when he gets to the point where he actually seeks out their company, he starts to realize his feelings
and when he does, he’ll feel more nervous initiating interaction (afraid he’ll say or do something wrong)
they need to be someone who will take the initiative and seek him out too, and that would only intensify his crush
*****
this turned into more of a character analysis,, oops?

let’s take this offline - ch2
synergy is the key to success [read on ao3] kageyama needs to burn that sweater-vest and hinata needs to not get turned on by kageyama’s voice.
---
“Hi, I’m Hinata!”
It feels like he’s repeated this at least ten times now, but the conversation that comes after is never the same. Hinata has met pretty much all the people joining their team and he’s already liking this new bunch.
A meet-and-greet was called forth by Daichi where Kuroo’s team can meet the rest of the Marketing Division, a chance for new faces to introduce themselves and get to know one another. He adds in his memo that breakfast will be included and where there is free food, there is Hinata.
Seeing so many unfamiliar faces causes slight unease in Hinata so after loading up two full plates of fruits and muffins, he sets off to make some new acquaintances.
Oikawa seems like a total douche but the passionate way he talks about his line of work is admirable and Hinata goes starry-eyed. Akaashi is the complete opposite with his calm and collected demeanour and Hinata thinks that Kenma would get along with him. Aone is a tough one to crack but once Hinata mentions animal documentaries, an instant connection is built and he knows it will be a lasting one.
Then there’s the guy sulking in the corner of the room, staring relentlessly at Hinata. Eyes narrowed, brows scrunched, and lips pulled into small pout, he has not moved since Hinata got here. Everything about him is intense—the way he eats his fruits, the way he holds his coffee cup, the way he drinks from his cup.
The only thing that makes him slightly more approachable is the puke-green sweater vest he’s unfortunately wearing. Brave is the man who steps out into society in that.
He’s been avoiding to introduce himself but one can only be so rude for so long. Hinata musters up the courage, summons his biggest smile, and marches right up to the man.
“Good morning! I see you’re enjoying that coffee a lot.” He starts off. “I’m Hi—”
“I know. Your picture doesn’t do you justice.”
Now it’s his turn to stare. The next few seconds was a wild train ride as Hinata witnesses a rainbow of emotions running across the man’s face—shock, dismay, humiliation, and a final colour of cooled restraint. Or at least, as restrained as he can be with that growing flush of his.
Hinata hears the impact of an arrow shooting through his heart.
Then the guy blurts out, “I mean, you’re even harder to look at in person.”
That figurative arrow is then unforgivingly ripped out.
“What did you say?” Hinata growls.
“You just…” He appears to be struggling to find words. “You have that same stupid look—”
“Just give me your name so I know not to work with you in the future.”
“Too late, you already are.” The man takes his hand out for a handshake. “Kageyama Tobio.”
Hinata hisses in responses, slapping his hand away. “I knew there was something sinister about you.”
“Sinister? What the fuck do you mean?!”
Taking a step forward, Hinata says, “You were giving me angry looks the whole time I was here!”
“That’s because all I could see is that dumb picture you have on your Skype profile,” Kageyama says, putting his foot forward. “Take a better one by the way, it hurts my eyes and I don’t appreciate it.”
“Well I don’t appreciate your attitude.”
“You already said that, genius. Try to be original for once.”
Before Hinata can reply, both of them gets a hard pat on the back and they turn to see Kuroo, standing uncomfortably close and wearing an uncomfortably wide smile.
“Well well, we sure are getting acquainted here,” says Kuroo. “It’s always nice to see our staff get along. Makes for good team morale, don’t you think?”
The silent challenge in his eyes makes both Hinata and Kageyama nod. His towering figure looming over Hinata makes it all the more intimidating.
“And Daichi will be especially happy to see us working and flourishing together as one big family, wouldn’t you agree?”
The two men couldn’t nod faster.
“Good.” Kuroo pats their back again. “Play nice.”
Waiting until the manager walks out of hearing range, Kageyama gives Hinata a pointed look. “Listen up moron, I'm not going to throw my reputation down the drain in front of my boss and Daichi just because some dimwit doesn't know how to do his job correctly."
Hinata grits his teeth. The two-faced, no-good, jer—
“Grab your laptop and come to my desk. I’ll take a look at your dumb report.”
A truce.
Okay, he takes it all back. Maybe this guy’s not all that bad.
Wait.
"Why don’t you come to my desk?" Hinata asks.
Kageyama gives him an incredulous look. "Because we're already on my floor so why the hell do I need to go to the 23rd? This is your problem anyway."
"Caused by your data!"
"Just…" Kageyama takes a deep breath and closes his eyes. He rubs the bridge of his nose before brushing back his bangs, revealing a weirdly alluring forehead. "Just, come. Okay? Let me see what I can do."
Maybe it’s the way Kageyama finally pulls back. Not giving in, but receding for now to let things cool before both their hotheads steam up again. Maybe it’s also how he decides to lower his voice, as an attempt for cease-fire. It sounds smoother, low and solid, and eases Hinata’s defenses down.
Realizing that he still hasn’t replied, Hinata clears his throat. "Fine, give me fifteen minutes."
Kageyama raises his eyebrows. "It takes you that long to get up there?”
His personality is as horrid as that sweater-vest of his.
---
In all honesty, if it wasn't for his serious lack of charm, Hinata would've thought Kageyama as a slightly-above-average looking guy. He's decently-built, no doubt smart, and has a pretty face to boot (when it's not scrunched in negativity). Brown eyes are so common here so it's refreshing to see a person with blue ones.
Hinata first discovers them when they sit together to look at his broken report. Kageyama’s focusing on the screen in front of him, concentration level up 110%. He’s seated tightly against his desk, hands on mouse and keyboard moving ever so swiftly to navigate around the computer. Like a machine, he processes the report methodically and Hinata…well Hinata’s eyes explore the office setting.
And then at Kageyama. He’s currently addressing him about something, but Hinata doesn’t really listen because he realises that Kageyama’s eyes are not black but in fact a dark shade of blue. It’s hard to tell, what with the man glaring at you half the time.
“Are you even listening?”
“Your eyes are blue.”
This puts a stop to Kageyama’s scowling. He straightens up and looks back to the screen, muttering, “What of it?”
Hinata shakes his head in defence. “No I mean, I just think that’s cool. They’re so dark and…” He leans in closer to get a better look. The colour is so deep that Hinata’s mistaken them for black, to his shame, and Hinata finds Kageyama’s eyes are so intense that—
“It’s nice,” he says.
Kageyama visibly swallows. “Nice.”
Hinata nods with a smile. “They’re a nice colour.”
They find out what went wrong with the report that day. It’s neither Kageyama’s data nor Hinata’s report that is that the cause but some data-transfer issue that becomes too technical for them to solve. Surprisingly, Kageyama offers to help Hinata find the right contact and email them.
And that’s how Kageyama stumbles across the 400+ unread emails buried in Hinata’s inbox. He calls it a wrongdoing, uncivilized, an absolute abomination, and Hinata should be ashamed of himself for letting the situation get this far. Hinata in turn has no idea what’s so wrong about it until he seems Kageyama’s pristine clean mailbox.
That day is when Hinata learns of how diligent Kageyama is. How he makes sure to meticulously file his emails into folders structured in a hierarchal fashion, how he has 0 draft emails while Hinata has more than 10 because he isn’t all that great at finishing emails and he often forgets.
Kageyama’s desktop is a mirror of his inbox—clear and simple with only three icons to select on. His folders are neatly organized and easy to navigate around. His sticky notes line perfectly against each other, same width same height, and not a pixel disproportionate.
It’s all kind of endearing, really.
That and the fact Kageyama goes nuts over Hinata’s own desktop, filled with documents and software—some misnamed, some just having the default Untitled, and some with the asdf name. That one particular text file with the name asdfdsasdfasdafdasd is certainly one that drives Kageyama insane. He calls it a calamity waiting to happen.
Hinata likes to call it organized chaos.
Kageyama refuses to let it go, even a few days later, when Hinata emails him again with some work-related questions, and he lords over Hinata’s improper use of the signature block. Until this point of time, Hinata wasn’t even aware that it was actually a thing—isn’t your name enough to let someone know who sent the message?
Kageyama, Tobio [11:39 AM] It’s to show which team you’re in and your credibility.
Hinata, Shouyou [11:40 AM] ok fine team i get the credibility part i don’t what i work on reflects that
Kageyama, Tobio [11:43 AM] It’s also just corporate etiquette. It’s good to let people know who they’re speaking to.
Hinata, Shouyou [11:44 AM] ha u know im way past corp etiquette and they can find out who i am when they talk to me why give them something to put a box around me?
Kageyama doesn’t reply after that. Nevertheless Hinata takes what is advised and constructs an email signature. He might as well be half-civilized in the corporate world. Kageyama better be happy.
Their interactions are sporadic. Even though Kuroo’s team is now an extension of Daichi’s crew, it’s decided that it’s best not relocate everyone. At first, Hinata reaches out when he needs help, for purely work-things. Eventually, he gets used to the idea of bothering the snappy man because no matter how annoying he knows he’s being, Kageyama always answers.
Kenma is a victim of Hinata’s scattered attention. He tolerates Hinata with the Skype chats and over-the-desk conversations and by tolerate, it means half-listening and sometimes entertaining a response if he feels like it. The other guys on the team is more willing to join in, Nishinoya throwing in words of wisdom while Tanaka writes a book about it.
But Kageyama—Kageyama listens. He yells and questions and replies in way that makes Hinata want to talk with him more. His perfect grammar and formal wordings is as infuriating as it is charming. Never is a chat-window more of a juxtaposition than seen before. Kageyama is a big nerd and he can’t deny it.
Especially with that atrocious sweater-vest.
Hinata tells him what he needs to hear.
Kageyama, Tobio [3:11 PM] What’s wrong with it? Does it have a hole in the back?
Hinata, Shouyou [3:12 PM] r u joking it’s something my great granddad would’ve worn doesn’t go well with your skin
Kageyama, Tobio [3:14 PM] i don’t say anything about your bowtie
Hinata, Shouyou [3:15 PM] whats wrong with my bowtie?!?!!
Kageyama, Tobio [3:23 PM] It’s distracting.
He doesn’t elaborate afterwards. In fact, Kageyama goes offline for the next hour. Worried, Hinata goes to the restroom to check on his bowtie. Is it crooked? Tied unevenly? Does it clash with his shirt? He’s had the idea of developing a statement about his person in the office and his statement is his bowties.
He plans to ask just what about them offends Kageyama on a call they’d setup to talk over some project. Shimizu informs Hinata of an upcoming proposal that Daichi wants to explore next year. Apparently this project will heavily involve Kuroo’s team, Kageyama’s area of expertise in particular. They might as well start that conversation early so Hinata books a meeting call.
When he hears the beep of someone joining the line, Hinata opens his mouth to greet the person until he’s stopped short.
“Hello, it’s Kageyama.”
Oh.
Oh no.
A warm shiver runs down his back before rising up to the top of his head. Smooth, sultry, and rich is all he hears. It’s like creamy milk chocolate running smoothly down your throat, warming the rest of your body. It’s the afternoon sun on a calm autumn day, the quiet hum of a fire, the lullaby sung gently into your ears.
The sound of Kageyama’s husky voice is a surprise and it does things to Hinata’s heart.
“Hello?”
“Oh, hi yes!” He hopes Kageyama cannot hear the breathlessness in his voice.
Hinata grips the phone hard during the entire call. He attentively listens to Kageyama’s lull, finding a rhythm to his voice. He sounds so different over the phone—calmer, at ease. Definitely doesn’t have that same bite when he’s in your face all the time. There’s a solidity to his tone, confident and so sure of himself in the best way. It mirrors the way he writes.
He likes that solidity.
Kageyama starts sharing his screen with Hinata, something about wanting to share a PowerPoint deck. Kageyama can share any sort of deck with h—
Hinata stops. He stops right there before it goes any farther.
He clears his throat long and hard, puffing out a harsh breath as if to expel all wicked thoughts. Kageyama is a decent-looking guy, but just that. Just your regular, average-built man with a less-than-average fashion sense.
“Something wrong?”
“Nothing,” squeaks Hinata.
“Can you send me the file again? I want to have a comparison.”
Look at him, sweating over some man’s voice while said man is working hard and serious on the other side of the phone. Hinata needs to pull it together.
He sends the file over Skype, watching as his profile picture pop up on Kageyama’s desktop and grimacing.
“I really need to change my photo,” he says.
Kageyama clicks his tongue over the phone, casually adding, “I think you’re fine.”
Hinata’s heart skips a beat.
Oh no.

It’s Your Turn Pt. 3
I will finish this! I absolutely will even if it’s the end of me! I seriously hope that you guys are enjoying it, especially since this culture means so much to me. But I’ve ranted about that before, so I won’t go into it again, lol!
I kinda ended up falling into the idea of love struck Kenma, which I hadn’t originally planned on doing, but I kinda needed this by to believe in love as a motivator a for later scenes.
Now we’re really gonna get into it! AHHH!
P.s. I’m sad cause I had to sell my Escape ticket, you guys. It’s been literally a whole year since I’ve been to a rave, I’m just itching to be part of that crowd again!
P.s.s. There are some mentions of drugs in this section, but nothing is used.
Part 1 丨 Part 2
“And you hadn’t thought to tell me about this before?” Kuroo questioned, leaning his hip against the side of the car with his arms crossed over his chest. They had made a pit stop to fill up their gas tank along the way and when Kuroo had asked who Kenma had been texting their entire drive, he had gotten an answer he hadn’t expected. “You’ve been talking to someone online and just now decide to bring him up?”
Kenma could feel his face flushing as he sunk lower into his seat, suddenly wishing that he could roll the back window up to save himself from this very conversation. “Because I knew you’d react like this,” he answered easily enough. But he knew how it sounded, meeting a guy he had only been talking with online for a month at an event like XOXO. It wasn’t exactly an ideal situation, but it kind of felt like... fate?
“Doesn’t matter,” Kuroo chided, hand removing the pump to place it back in it’s rightful place, “you should’ve told me.” Maybe it was his instinct of taking care of the smaller male kicking in, but he didn’t really like the idea of this random online guy filling Kenma’s head with ideas of true love and romance. “And what do you expect to happen, huh?”
“To meet him,” the answer was obvious, after all. But Kenma felt the way his heart picked up at the very thought of doing just that. “And it’s kinda like fate, SHUYO will play our song.”
Kuroo’s brows furrowed slightly, body moving to the front of the car again, his arm raising to wave Bokuto out of the convenience store. He remained silent for a long moment, eyes taking in the owl costumed man make long strides to the vehicle with a bag of potato chips in hand. “Everyone’s listening to that song, Kenma, just cause he called it your song can’t mean that much.”
“Hey,” Bokuto piped in as though he had been part of the conversation the entire time, “stop giving him shit for being in love.” He threw himself into the passenger seat and turned to smile brightly back at Kenma. “Special things happen at raves, don’t let him pretend that we didn’t fall in love at one.”
A small smile pulled at Kenma’s lips in gratitude, barely taking in the small banter that then took place between the couple in the front, his gaze focusing on the screen of his phone again.
Just a few more hours.
It was ringing and ringing and ringing...
“Hello?”
“Yes, hello!” Kageyama responded quickly, his phone trapped between his shoulder and ear as he walked around the back of his family’s shop, hands busying themselves with wrapping the loaves of bread that had been freshly baked. “This is Hinata Shouyou’s manager - or SHUYO as he’s known - and I have a meeting with producer--”
“Yes, at six,” the feminine voice on the other end cut him off.
“Ah, yes, the reason I’m calling is--” his hands fumbled, sending the empty tray resting at the edge of the table clashing to the floor “--I’m sorry, the, uh, limo is a little loud.” He forced a laugh to escape his lips, hand immediately working on taking the tray to the sink in the back. “But I was calling because there might be a small chance that I’ll be arriving later than anticipated.”
It wasn’t small, Kageyama knew it without question. It was always the case with his father, a man dedicated to the life that he had built for his family. And he would always be grateful to the man, but he had plans of building something that was greater than the deli and shop that his father owned. It was not where he wanted to spend the remainder of his life.
“Hinata is my best client,” he was his only client, “I couldn’t ask for anyone better and he deserves a label with--” Kageyama paused, listening to the voice on the other end confirm an extension on their original meeting time. “Thank you so much! I’ll be seeing you shortly.”
Shoving his phone back into his pocket, his eyes instantly went to his wristwatch. “Shit,” he mumbled, his eyes darting to his father’s office where the very man resided with hard eyes on his paperwork. All he needed was his approval.
I’m going to kill u
Hinata sent the text with a harsh tap to the flat screen of his phone, brain purposefully ignoring the constant questions from the guy seated next to him with spiking red hair. It was bad enough that he had to take a party bus to an event that could change his entire life, it was even worse to be sitting next to someone who was as terrifying as this guys.
“Hey man, let Tendou in,” the redhead laughed, his smile growing as he nudged his elbow against the smaller. He waited until the attention he had been vying for was finally on him before lifting his jacket covered arm to pull at the sleeve, revealing an extensive set of drug paraphernalia hidden beneath. Hinata found his gaze widening in the slightly, how in the hell did this guy hide so many things in one place? “I got the sensations for all occasions!”
The absurdity of the moment continued as Tendou continued his speech by giving Hinata a step by step process of which pill he would be taking in what order, suggestions of sharing being an option for the smaller if he stuck around. With his brown gaze returning to his computer screen, he wondered how he could escape from this twisted nightmare. He was on his goddamn way to XOXO with no manager and no idea what he was really getting into. And then there was the whole--
“Hey.”
Turning instantly, Hinata’s gaze met with the warm one of Suga’s, mind only barely registering the last beginning of Tendou’s speech about an infinite universe.
“You wanna sit with us?” the blond offered, body moving across the double seats until he was placed within Daichi’s lap, whose hand wrapped around his boyfriend’s waist with ease. “We have room.”
Without any hesitation, the DJ jumped the aisle with Tendou’s gaze resting on him heavily, settling in beside the couple. “Thanks,” he responded, eyes resting to the screen of his laptop, hands fiddling with putting last minute touches on the tracks he would be playing that very night, “I really needed that.”
“No problem,” Suga responded, before delivering a small introduction.
"Ah, listening to SHUYO, huh?” Daichi questioned upon seeing the screen of Hinata’s laptop. His head leaned against Suga’s shoulder as he wrapped his arm around his own, his smile widening. “We’re pretty excited to see him. We think he’s going to be awesome,” he explained, deep voice accented with the agreements of the boyfriend in his lap.
Hinata paused for only a moment. “Wait, you guys are fucking with me, right?”
“Um,” Kenma piped, his gaze traveling out the window at the crowds lining up outside of the entrance gate, “aren’t we supposed to go in that way?”
“No way,” Kuroo gave a small laugh, immediately reaching over to roll down all of the windows and turning up the volume of his radio. He heard the crowd of people cheer and he returned the noise, kandi covered arm fist bumping up into the air. “Kou got us VIP, we’re partying it up with fucking King OT.”
“But--”
“Oh, calm down, Daishit will still be there.”
“Daishou.”
“Whatever.”
“Okay,” Bokuto interjected again, setting a stern gaze on Kuroo and removed his boyfriend’s hand from his thigh, “you, stop giving Kenma a hard time. And you.” he turned to the younger in the backseat, “just hang out a couple hours and then you can meet up with him. He’s not even in yet, right?”
Remaining quiet for another moment, Kenma gave a small nod, his hands moving to inform Daishou of his whereabouts until he was to get there. He was finally there and this was finally going to happen.
“I’m telling you guys, this is exactly what’s wrong with the scene nowadays, man,” Ukai ranted, completely turned around in his seat to face the group of party boys behind him. He was sure he asked them their name, what the fuck were they now? Terushima? Taketora? Whatever. “I remember when King OT was nothing more than a jerky kid who was paying people to let him play. And when Takeda was just a chubby kid passing out flyers trying to get people to go to his shows.” Were they giving him blank stares? “And it’s because of this stupid shit that I turned my back on the whole culture, man--”
“Yeah, uh, Ukai,” Tanaka tapped at his shoulder, his gaze going from the front of the bus where a grinding noise was being produced to his boss, “yo, Ukai.”
“Just give me one second,” Ukai shrugged him off, “honestly, I feel bad for you, cause, like, this whole peace, love, unity, respect is just this backward bro culture. And I feel sad for your guys and your tank tops.”
“Okay, yeah, I feel real sad too,” Tanaka interrupted, hand scratching at the back of his head.
“Fucking what dude?” Ukai questioned, his gaze finally landing on his employee.
“You hear that sound?” Tanaka asked, pointing out the grinding that had continued throughout. His body turned to the driver they hired, a tone of respect that Ukai had barely heard from him in the years that he had worked with the kid rising in his voice. “Excuse me, sir.”
“Stop, stop, stop,” Ukai voiced, “get him to stop.”
“I’ve been trying,” he turned to Ukai with wide eyes, “I think the bus drivers deaf.”
“Ya know, it’s just always been this place and this feeling where I just feel,” Hinata paused, his grappling the air before him as he tried to think of a word to accompany his thoughts.
“Like you’re a part of something bigger?” Daichi offered, smiling warmly when that bright face turned to face him.
Suga gave a small laugh, his fingers idly running along Daichi’s neck and up into his hair. “Yeah, we know that feeling. This’ll be the last time we feel it for awhile actually,” he commented, forcing a grin to his features when he met with the questioning gaze of Hinata, “I’m moving to America tomorrow, so...”
“Wow,” Hinata cooed, unable to sense the immediate tension it brought between the couple, “are you going out there too?”
“Uh,” Daichi paused, his eyes remaining on the back of the seat in front of him, “no, I still have another year of school.”
“Oh, so you guys are doing the whole long distance thing?”
There was a beat of silence between the three. It was Daichi that finally broke it, his gaze rising in an attempt to meet with Suga’s, but he avoided him. “Well, we haven’t actually talked about it yet.”
There was a small jolt in the bus, all three sets of eyes darting to the front as though they would get their answer from that action. “What’s going on?” Hinata questioned, eyes growing with panic as the large vehicle pulled off the road and into the dirt of the deserted land around them. “What the fuck is going on?”
“The bus is stopping,” Suga pointed out unhelpfully, his own expression put off by the event.
“Stopping?” How the fuck was he supposed to get to XOXO now?
