Roswell New Mexico - Season 4, Episode 3
I really don’t know what to do with myself this season cause I’m not yelling yet. I actually think this season is pretty solid so far, which is really nice for the final season. I wanted to have hope for this season since it was the first one without any of Carina’s messy influence and so far I really am pleasantly surprised by it.
I have to say, I think Dallas was such a great addition to the show because he really is connecting people in ways that never happened before. I love his friendship with Michael, that he listens to him, that he backs him up, that he gives him advice. I hope it gets to go the other way more at some point but for now I’ll enjoy this aspect. He was also back getting close to Maria again, which still leaves me confused where they’re going with him romantically, Maria or Jenna. But it’s cool either way. But I think it’s nice for her to have someone to confide in as well, especially since Rosa is still MIA. I miss her. I want her back.
But overall, they really are improving the interactions this season, building on last season. The fact that they finally had a real team meeting there to hand out assignments, great. I always liked those kinds of scenes in the original show where they’d all stand out in the desert and discuss what was going on, so it was nice to finally get something like that in this show. I want more.
Although I was fully ready to be annoyed that Kyle wasn’t there because I figured he just wasn’t in the episode and they were ignoring his existence like they usually do but then he was and I couldn’t even yell about that. Haha.
I continue to enjoy the Kybel slow burn they’ve got going on. We’ve had Kyle’s feelings that Maria noticed. Then last week we got Isobel looking a little jealous to see Kyle with a date. And now we’ve got Anatsa noticing something’s up with them, or at least that Isobel trusts him more. I think the breakdown of Isobel and Anatsa’s relationship has been pretty believable and I’m impressed she’s made it to episode 3 before there was any type of break up. Since Forrest only made it one episode into season 3. Haha. I’m curious to see if this will be it or if Isobel will try and get her back before we eventually get to Kybel. Either way, that whole wine tasting, double date fiasco was fun.
After hearing about Michael making friends with the bank robbers during the hiatus, I was happy to see that it’s all part of the plan and that it’s his plan and Max did eventually relent and let him try it, mostly cause Liz told him to but I’ll take it. It makes me more curious to see where it’s going to go. Clyde still sucks though. But I like Bonnie.
No idea what Tesca is doing. I mean, stealing Jones obviously, but is Eduardo okay? Is she just systematically destroying Deep Sky by “taking out” their employees one by one? I mean...respect, but she’s just got Kyle left to go since I’m still convinced that no one else works there. I will also use this time to say that I miss Alex and I’d really like to at least get to the part where Michael knows that he’s missing.
Also curious to see what they plan on doing with Jones. They’re not gonna try and revive him or something are they? I just hope the Alighting or whatever it is that they’re working toward is actually something interesting.
I don’t really understand what’s going on with Max’s powers either. He can’t seem to do anything when he’s around Jenna but tells Liz he’s afraid of what he can do? So which is it? Is he unable to really use his powers or does he have too much power? Or is it just too erratic he’s afraid of it when pushed? I don’t know. I guess we’ll see.
I do like seeing Liz actively trying to find a balance in her life with her work. It’s good to see her work at it every episode. It’s nice to see that growth journey, especially when this show loves to tell not show. Overall, I think the show is finding a better balance between character arcs and the plot this season and so far there really does seem to only be one main plot and no extraneous nonsense. It gives me hope.
I do wonder how much Liz is going to let Shivani into everything alien. Also still waiting for Shiri to show up so we can have OG Liz meet new Liz on screen.
Back to Dallas for a second, I’m once again glad to see Graham Greene actually involved in the story and that whole exchange between him and Dallas was a lot of fun, especially with Michael interjecting his commentary.
So really, I just need the show to keep up this level of quality...and give me Alex back...and Rosa. Eduardo can stay missing. That’s fine. Haha.

lullaby (pt. 2 to cherry) // v.h.
This part went through so many changes. Originally, they weren't getting back together but I ultimately decided for Y/n to take Vinnie back because I'm a sucker for happy endings and second chances. Kinda came out longer than I wanted it too, but meh. This part is heavily inspired by the song "Lullaby" by Mariah Carey. Other than that, I hope you enjoy!
link to part 1
Word Count: 2219, unedited
WARNING: language, mentions of partying, alcohol, drugs, and a very fluffy yet cheesy ending.
---------
It had been a few months since you and Vinnie had bid your goodbyes. Within those months, you were doing great. You had aced your first semester classes, you just moved into your apartment, and you were at the highlight of your life. The only thing you lacked was someone to bask in the happiness with. To say you missed Vinnie was an understatement, but you were too prideful to actually tell yourself that.
You tried dating again, but no one could hold a candle to your Vinnie. Plus, you hadn’t been keeping up with him on social media or anything, so you didn’t know if he had moved on and forgotten you. You didn’t want to reopen old wounds, so you refrained from contacting him.
But little did you know, not a day went by that Vinnie didn’t think about you. He constantly thought about what he did, beating himself up for even having the thought of another girl while he was with you. But he didn’t know what to do. Your relationship was dying, and none of you bothered to even talk about it. So, to him, he thought there was nothing that he could do…thus causing him to do what he did. Thankfully, he didn’t go too far with the girl, but still…he knew what he did was terrible.
Dating for him was pretty much impossible. Much similar to your situation, there was no one who could fill your shoes. The way you danced around in his head during the day and ruled his dreams at night…no one could do that for him. You were one of a kind, and with as many offers he got, he was torn that none of them were from you. He was a funk…a really bad one.
His friends and housemates took notice of this and being the best friends they were, they decided to drag him out of the house and to a party at Triller Compound because that’s what every heartbroken friend needed when they’re down. To be surrounded by booze, loud music, and sweaty people…oh yeah, that’s what he definitely needed right at this moment.
“C’mon, at least smile a little bit.” Alex said, looking back the upset boy through the rearview mirror.
“Smile about what? Going to some party that I didn’t even want to go to.”
“You seriously need to get over, Y/n.” Thomas sighed, turning to Vinnie from the passenger seat. “What happened between to you two happened for a reason. You just gotta let it go.”
Mia scoffed from beside Vinnie and slapped Thomas on the shoulder. “Thomas, it’s not that easy!”
“I’m just saying, if it were me, I wouldn’t be all upset and everything.”
“So, you’re saying if we broke up…you wouldn’t be sad?” Mia responded sharply, obviously joking.
Thomas nearly choked, looking back at his girlfriend. “I-I’m not saying that. I mean, if…it’s just that…it’s different, okay. He cheated.”
“Did you have to bring that up?” Mia rolled her eyes and turned to Vinnie. “Don’t listen to him, okay. It was your relationship, and sure you messed it up, but…you still can be sad about it. I think.”
Vinnie huffed and stayed silent, no bothering to listen to anyone. He didn’t need people reminding him of his mistakes, that was the whole reason why he was being a downer. He just couldn’t forgive himself. There were no ounce of words or speeches that anyone could give him that would make him feel better. This was just something that he’d have to get over with time.
It was only minutes before they pulled up to the packed mansion and stumbled out of Alex’s car, Vinnie being the last out. He watched as his friends rushed to the house before heading inside. Upon entering the house, scenes of people grinding and drinking came into his sights. The sound of trap music filled his ears as the strong stench of weed brushed across his nose. He sneered before walking to the backyard. He scanned the area for any sober person he knew, hoping to find someone to complain about his situation to.
As he searched, his eyes landed on a familiar head of y/h/c hair. He furrowed his brows, trying to get a better view of the person. “That can’t be who I think it is,” he thought to himself as he moved in closer.
That was when you looked to side, and he caught a glimpse of your profile. His heart nearly stopped beating the minute he saw your face. He breathed hitched in his threat as he tried to keep himself from hyperventilating. He never thought he’d see you again, yet here you were…just a few feet away from him. He had forgotten the fact that you two had mutual acquaintances, so it came to no surprise that you’d come to this party.
Vinnie watched as you threw you head back in laughter at something one of your friend’s said. There wasn’t much he could do but stare at you. He didn’t know what to do. It’d be risky to even think you’d want to talk to him, so he refrained from walking up to you. He didn’t want to bring up painful memories. It was a good thing you hadn’t seen him yet.
---------
“You’re joking!” You smiled. “Come to think of it though, Bryce would be the one to try and drink tequila off your tits.”
Your friend, Y/bff/n snorted, “I know right!? I was like…sir, I am not that kind of a girl. Please have a good night.”
The two of you continued to laugh at her situation before you heard her go silent. You calmed yourself down, looking at her shocked face. Confused, you followed her eyes and turned around to see what had her so shook up. At that moment, your eyes met the very person you had least expected to see tonight…
Vinnie.
He was staring right back at you. The minute he realized you were looking back at him, he nearly freaked out. He attempted to look around, playing as if he hadn’t been eyeing you, but you had already caught him in the act.
“Is that…?”
“Vinnie, yep. That’s him.” You said, placing a hand on your hip. “I wonder what he’s doing here.”
Y/bff/n snickered. “It’s a party, Y/n.”
“I know that, but I honestly didn’t expect him to be here tonight.”
You two watched the boy look around frantically and you couldn’t help but smile a bit. You missed him and judging from the sight in front of you…it seemed as if he did too. But still, you were a bit out of the loop. Who’s to say he hasn’t already moved on. You couldn’t intrude on his happiness, that wouldn’t be fair.
“You should go talk to him.” Y/bff/n said.
You looked at her with your eyebrows raised. “You really think so?”
“It’s obvious he’s still into you, babes. And considering the fact you’ve been looking at him with those goo-goo eyes, I think you’re still into him too.”
“I don’t know, Y/bff/n. I mean…what if he’s seeing someone else.”
“There’s no way. If he’s trying that hard to pretend that he wasn’t just staring at you, he’s still hung up on you. And, even if he is seeing someone, that doesn’t mean you can’t just go and talk to him.”
You shrugged. “I guess you’re right.”
“Atta girl. Oh, and on your way back, make sure you grab me one of those little mini cakes. I’ve been craving one since we got here.”
Rolling your eyes at the foolish girl, you proceeded to leave her side and head over to Vinnie. The moment he saw you, he practically froze. You could tell he was nervous; his awkward stance and wide eyes told it all.
Within seconds, you stood before the boy, a slight grin on your face.
“Hey, Vinnie.” You greeted, placing your arms behind your back.
“Y/n, didn’t see you there!” He laughed. “Well, I did see you there but like, I wasn’t watching you or anything…yeah, totally wasn’t watching you.”
Your smile grew wider. “Yeah, sure. So, how’ve you been?”
“Good, uh…definitely good. You?”
“Um, my classes are going well, and I just got a new place…so, can’t complain.”
“That’s dope, Y/n. Glad to hear you’re doing good.”
You nodded, looking down at your feet. “Same to you. I’m sure you’re, y’know…enjoying everything with your girlfriend.”
Vinnie looked at you with a puzzled expression, your statement taking him back a bit. To be honest, he couldn’t be surprised that you thought he’d be taken by now because he thought the same about you. However, at the same time, with the way he was acting right now, he was shocked you didn’t realize he was still head-over-heels for you.
“I don’t, um…I’m not seeing anyone.”
You grinned to yourself, trying to keep your cool as you tilted your head at him. “I’m sorry, I just thought you’d be with someone.”
“It’s fine. I definitely get it. To be honest, I thought you’d be here with someone.”
“Technically, I am.” You replied.
It was at that moment Vinnie felt his heart explode and despair run through his system. He weakly put on a happy face, shooting you a thumbs up.
“That’s g-great.”
“Yeah, Y/bff/n just was dying to come with me. She’s been begging to go to one of these parties, so I thought why not?”
“Oh,” Vinnie breathed, feeling his heart piece itself back together. “So, you’re not seeing anyone?”
You shook your head. “Not right now. I’ve been on a few dates and stuff, but no one has ever made me feel like y-”
You stopped yourself, locking your lips together to keep that last word from leaving your mouth. You didn’t know why, but something in you didn’t want you sharing your feelings with Vinnie. Maybe it was the small ounce of hurt that clung to your heart like a child from Vinnie’s infidelity. Or maybe it was the slight fear that he may not want to get back together. There were so many thoughts in your head, all speaking at once. It was so loud, that you didn’t even catch what Vinnie had said to you.
“…and-…Y/n? You listening?” He tapped you gently, bringing you out of your head.
“Sorry about that. I was in my head for a moment. What were you saying?”
“I was just saying that I’m sorry for what I did. I was just so confused on where we stood in our relationship, not saying that it justifies my actions, but instead of coming to talk to you, I went and…well, did what I did. Believe me, I never meant to hurt you, and I totally understand if you don’t forgive me.”
You sighed, “I’m not gonna lie, I didn’t know where our relationship was headed either. Honestly, I was planning to break up with you that night.”
“And I ended up giving you even more of a reason to do so.”
You both laughed before meeting each other’s eyes.
“I wish we had talked about it, y’know? Communicated and all of that suff. It would’ve saved us both a heap of heartache.” You continued. “I can’t lie, even though life has been good, it sucks not being able to share it with you.”
Vinnie smirked, taking your hands in his. “Y/n, ever since we broke up…I haven’t been able to think about anything but you. I hadn’t streamed, I barely left the house…I couldn’t do anything. I just didn’t know how to function without you. You have such a hold over me…I didn’t know how to get over you.”
“I guess this whole goodbye thing really wasn’t a good idea after all.”
“No, I think it was. I think it happened for a reason. That reason being, so we can fall in love all over again.”
At this point, you were a smiling mess and there was nothing you could do to hide it. Vinnie wasn’t any better, you could tell he was in pain by the way he hadn’t stopped showing his pearly whites. It clear to both of you now that you two were still in love, if not more than before.
“That’s so sweet, Vin.” You said. “But also, cheesy. You were always the sappy one in the relationship.”
“As if, Miss Hopeless Romantic. I’m not the one who freaks out over Valentine’s Day.”
“Mmhm, sure you don’t.”
The two of you stood there for minute in silence, your hands entangled, and your gazes planted on each other. It felt good, and it was almost as if all that hurt…that fear…it was completely gone and now replaced with passion and security.
“Y/n, I know you probably have some resentment towards me, but I love you too much to care. So, if you’re willing and there’s enough forgiveness in your heart…I wanna restart, right from the beginning.”
Without much thought or hesitation, you said, “We can restart. For sure.”
“Well, in that case…Hi, I’m Vinnie.”
You smiled as the feeling of love washed over you. To say you were happy was an understatement, you were in paradise. Life was great, and now you had your boy back to share it with.
“Nice to meet you, Vinnie. I’m Y/n.”

High School Reunion
A/N: Midvale is coincidentally set around the time Alex’s 10-year high school reunion would’ve been, so that’s when this is set.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Alex heads down to the beach.
Spending the night in her childhood bed and the emotional release of her conversation with Kara had been nice, but leftover pent up energy is making her restless. A difficult run in the sand should help.
It does at first. It’s been a while since she’s run on a beach. All her energy is spent on reacquainting herself with the lack of solid footing, the way the sand deforms under her feet, how much harder her muscles have to work to extract her feet and carry them forward.
Not long after she falls into a steady rhythm, Alex spots two women walking ahead of her. They’re going in the same direction as her, but she passes them easily.
The monotony of her physical movements allows her mind to wander. Inevitably her thoughts return to Maggie. Actually, no, not Maggie but the coming out journey she had helped along. Alex’s self-realization may have come in National City, but the signs had started here in Midvale.
Vicki hadn’t been her only crush, she’s sure. Over the past year, other memories have come back to Alex, puzzle pieces falling into place with a startling new clarity. Alex wonders how many she’s forgotten. Her mother hadn’t been surprised when Alex came out to her. Maybe she remembers more.
Eventually Alex decides to head back. At this point, she can run half the way and use the last half as a cool down walk.
The two women from before are still walking in the same direction. Alex glances at them, prepared to give a courtesy nod, but recognition stops that plan in its tracks.
It’s Josie.
And Vicki.
Crap.
After Kenny’s death, the friend bubble that had shattered so quickly around Alex hadn’t lasted much longer for Josie.
Except Vicki.
Vicki had been so unfailingly kind to and well-liked by everyone that she had the unique ability to stand up for anyone regardless of social status. And so she did for Kenny, Josie, and Alex.
Until Alex had screwed that up.
Alex hopes they won’t recognize her. She really doesn’t need this reunion now of all times.
No such luck.
“Alex?” Josie says as Alex nears.
Alex skids to a stop, momentum carrying her past Josie and Vicki, so they all have to turn to see one another.
“I didn’t think you’d come,” Josie continues.
Feeling more off-kilter than just her sudden stop can explain, Alex says, “I-- Josie, hi. Come to what?”
“The reunion.”
Josie’s words ring a distant bell though Alex doesn’t know how. She doesn’t really keep in touch with anyone from high school, though she sees the occasional update on social media. Maybe her mom mentioned it on a phone call. Either way, Alex has a vague recollection of hearing that her 10-year high school reunion is being held sometime around now. Apparently exactly now.
That also explains Vicki. From a brief moment of weakness when Alex googled her, she knows Vicki hasn’t lived in Midvale since she left for college either.
Vicki alternates between averting her gaze and shooting Alex odd looks. Once upon a time, Alex would’ve known what those looks meant.
“Oh, that’s this weekend?” Alex says. “Umm, I’m actually not here for that, just coincidence really.”
“Well, even if you hadn’t planned on going, since you're here, why don’t you drop by the reunion anyway?" Josie offers. “I’m sure we’ll be well-stocked with booze if nothing else.”
“I’ll think about it,” Alex says, her version of ‘thanks but no thanks.'
Josie seems to understand. “Either way, I’m glad we ran into each other. I wanted to say thank you and I’m sorry. The whole thing with Mr. Bernard...” She grimaces and shudders. “The more time passes, the grosser it feels. Thanks for ending it.”
“Just glad I could help,” Alex says. Maybe if Vicki wasn’t here, she’d ask how Josie is doing. But Vicki is here, which means Alex would very much like to be anywhere else. “I should finish my run before I cool down. See you around?”
Josie nods, looking a little lighter. “See you.”
Alex takes one last glance at Vicki.
The odd expression now looks like jealousy.
...
Alex watches the waves crash into the rocks below.
As the water recedes, she hears the shuffle of someone approaching.
There are very few people who know about her hideout. It’s not the sort of place people find by chance. The rocky cliff face is sloped but occasionally steep. Getting to her particular little hole in the wall requires knowing that sometimes the best way across is going down then up.
Her father is MIA. Her mom wouldn’t know to come looking for her now. This area is remote enough that Kara typically flies, which only leaves--
Alex sighs.
“I’m not in the mood to fight,” she says.
“Me neither,” comes Vicki’s voice moments before she appears. “I thought you’d be here.”
“Shouldn’t you be with Josie?” Alex wishes she could sound calmer, neutral at least, but her voice comes out reeking of resentment. “Doing... whatever, walking? Something?”
“I’ll see her tonight,” Vicki says evenly, and Alex’s resentment grows. “I wanted to talk to you.”
Vicki tilts her head towards the empty space beside Alex, asking if she can sit. The cave can probably fit three or four people, but given the giant elephant in the room, the prospect of two seems cramped.
Alex nods anyway.
An uncomfortable silence settles between them until Vicki clears her throat.
“I wish I knew what to say sorry for,” Vicki says.
Confusion proves a preferable alternative to discomfort. “Why would you be sorry?” Alex asks.
“You know, when we were kids, I remember hearing a lot about heartbreak,” Vicki says, and Alex’s own heart convulses in her chest. “No one ever told me you could feel it as deeply with friends.”
Friends. Right.
“I missed you, you know?” Vicki continues. “In college and even now, whenever I learn something interesting but super nerdy, I think, ‘Alex would love this.’”
“Ouch?” Alex says--she's a nerd but is she that nerdy--but she knows what Vicki means. When reading feel-good stories on the internet, she often thinks that Vicki would do something like that.
Vicki smiles, a subtle quirk of the mouth. “Watching you with Josie just now... it seemed so easy. I wish I could remember why we fought. If I said something stupid or insensitive... I remember it was after your dad died and then Kenny.”
“What? No!” Alex says immediately. “At least I don’t think so. To be honest, I also have no idea what we were fighting about.” Then because she feels guilty about Vicki’s guilt, she adds, “I did sort of have an epiphany last year about why though.”
“Last year? That’s random.”
“Not really.” Alex's face is burning now. She wishes the cave was bigger, provided at least a facade of an escape. But then again, maybe with an escape, she wouldn’t be bringing herself to having this conversation. “I, umm, I came out last year. I guess I’m coming out again now. To you. But I-- last year I came out for the first time, and it sort of made me think about things, and I didn’t realize it at the time, but I think I had a crush on you, and I didn’t know how to deal with it.”
Vicki looks stunned, and Alex immediately regrets saying anything. All of her coming out experiences until now had been positive, but now Maggie’s story about her and Elisa is rattling around her head. Alex racks her brains, trying to remember if Vicki said anything in high school that even hinted at homophobia.
An even more panicked thought runs through her head. Alex is pretty sure she’s the stronger of the two of them. If someone is getting pushed out of this cave, it’s not her.
“You know what,” Alex says quickly, desperately retreating from that terrible thought. “We can forget I said anything.”
“No, I… Thanks for sharing. I’m glad you felt comfortable enough to,” Vicki says.
Relief floods through Alex’s body. It’s not enough to calm her pounding heart and twisting stomach, but it provides a moment of clarity. She’d been talking a mile a minute and given Vicki less than half a second to respond before she went into panic mode.
“To be honest, I think I’m more surprised that you had a crush on me specifically,” Vicki continues. “You’re such a perfectionist. That you of all people could think that I was worth crushing on... It’s kind of flattering.” She’s quick to clarify, “Not in a weird way!”
Alex laughs, shaky but sincere. “Well if it helps, I don’t have a crush on you anymore.”
Vicki nudges her leg against Alex’s. “My turn to say, ‘Ouch.’”
Silence settles between them again. Alex wishes she could say this one is less awkward than the previous, but they still have ten years of distance between them.
Again, Vicki is the one to break the silence. “So what brings you to Midvale since it’s not the reunion?”
“I’ve been going through--” Alex lets out a weary sigh “--something. I don’t want to talk about it, but Kara thought it’d be a good idea to get away from National City for the weekend.”
Vicki respects Alex’s wishes and pivots. “And how is Kara? Seemed like Supergirl also had it rough for a while.”
Alex thinks she could rival Kara’s super speed with how quickly she turns to Vicki. “What? Why would you--”
“I’ve never said anything to anyone,” Vicki says with her hands up, “but I grew up with you. It’s kind of obvious.”
“No.” Alex sinks her head into her hands. “You can’t know.”
“I think it’s kind of amazing,” Vicki continues, oblivious to the panic once again coursing through Alex’s veins, “you two saving the world together.”
“You don’t understand,” Alex chokes out. “Do you remember Rick Malverne?”
Alex knows she’s breaking confidentiality by saying this, but she needs Vicki to understand the scope of the problem. If Alex missteps, it won’t be a great solution, but J’onn can wipe Vicki too.
Vicki’s brow furrows in thought before saying, “He liked you, right? Used to carry your backpack or something?”
“He also figured out that Kara is Supergirl, so if he knew, and you know, then how many other people in this town know?”
“Okay, uhh, even if other people do, no one is going to--”
“Earlier this year, he kidnapped me.”
“Oh my God.”
“He wanted his father freed from prison, so he went after me, said that if Kara didn’t break him free, he’d kill me. Nearly did too. But the point is that I can’t do that to Kara again.”
“What about you though? Are you okay?”
Alex looks down at the water below. The tide is rising much like the water in the tank. Alex shakes her head to wash the memories away.
“I’m fine.”
Vicki looks at her skeptically.
“I’m fine enough.”
“Well, if it helps, when I said it’s obvious, I meant to me.”
Alex shakes her head. “He knew because of that day on the beach. You know, when Kara saved that woman and her baby from the car? Our whole class was out there.”
“Yeah, but Rick moved away not long after, right? That’s one of his last memories of Kara, and it left an impression. No, hear me out. Everyone else who was there remembers her as that weird kid they picked on or avoided for years afterward. I’m pretty sure at this point the ‘weird kid Kara’ reputation is not the good kind of weird you’d expect to find in a superhero--no offense to her. It’s obvious to me because I know you, and especially in senior year after everything with Kenny, Sheriff Collins, and Josie, spending time with you meant spending time with Kara. I got to see her for the good kind of special that she is.”
“I don’t know.” Alex rubs her temples. She wishes it was that simple, but she doesn’t think it is.
“You know,” Vicki says playfully, sending off alarm bells in Alex’s head, “one way you can make sure is to come to the reunion tonight.”
Alex rolls her eyes. “I’d rather be kidnapped again.”
“Want me to sleuth around?” Vicki offers. “I may not be a super spy or whatever it is you do, but I’ve got skills.”
“No, we have other ways of dealing with this.” Alex makes a mental note to talk to J’onn. “And I was serious about the ‘you can’t know’ part. At the very least, you’re going to have to sign a lot of confidentiality documents.”
“Fair enough. Do I go to your office or something? Does that mean we’ll get to spend time together again? This has been nice.”
“We have another field office closer to where you live, not that I know where you live,” Alex adds quickly, but to her relief Vicki just laughs. “So, umm, maybe we could do something non-business related sometime?”
“I’d like that.”

Mia, episode nine
1.  For once, Mia actually has the right take on Alex.  He really has been a dick and an asshole, and he is and has been acting condescending.  She should be taking this as a warning; he’s totally exactly as she is saying here.  Unfortunately, I’m sure she’s going to change her tune because some sort of truth is going to come out about Bjorn and Mia is going to ‘realise’ that Alex is a good guy all along.  Except, he isn’t.  He never has been, and the fact that Bjorn had to be the one to tell her means that we can conveniently pretend that none of this is important.  Also, this ridiculous ‘what he did to me’ stuff is annoying.  If you have something to tell her... tell her.  Don’t be coy about it.
2.  This little scene with Amira is nice.  It’s a nice conversation to have with her rather than the others since she’s really the one who can empathise with Mia’s fears and worries.  And it’s interesting to see the varied ways in which the library is used.  In this scene it’s very cold, black and white colours (even in the costuming), not very inviting.  In others it has been a much more cheerful and welcoming place.  I guess we’re looking at the black and white, very rigid approach which Mia is using.  In other library scenes it’s been much more about bonding with the girls, warmth and connection, but here it’s a Mia who’s having something of a crisis.  I may not agree with where this is all going, but I do like what they’re doing with colouring etc here.
3.  I get that we’re trying for a whole ‘don’t be so black and white in your thinking’ thing here, but it’s so contrived.  Again, I think this is an issue where we as an audience never got to ‘meet’ Alex as he mellowed and became someone Mia would like, and so I just can’t believe that someone like Mia, who is strong in her opinions and principles, would want to give them over for him.  He’s proven over and over again that he’s got a lot of issues being open, honest and decent.  And for me, principles (eg ‘violence because someone waved at a girl is never okay’ which is where Mia is at rn because Alex won’t actually talk to her) are important, and the guy Alex keeps showing himself to be is not one you would drop those principles for.  Nuance is all well and good, but we have to actually see past the shell for the nuance to actually work.  ‘I don’t understand why I got involved with him at all’ - no, neither do I, Mia.  And given that it’s been only a few short weeks and you literally saw how awful he was to Kiki, I don’t see why this ‘desire is stringer than faith’ metaphor thing we have going on would work.  We’re on episode nine and they are talking about how shitty Alex’s behaviour is (which it is - no matter what reason, what he did to Bjorn isn’t okay and lying to Mia isn’t okay), so I’m to believe that within the space of 1.5 episodes none of this matters suddenly?  His behaviour is somehow forgiveable?  If it follows the og, it’s not even like he changes.  All that happens is that we get some ‘perspective’ on the situation.  And in this case, perspective may make something make sense, but it doesn’t change how bad the behaviour is.  I seriously dislike that Amira says that depending on what reason someone hit someone else that it might be okay.  That sort of violence isn’t okay, particularly because regardless of what actually happened between Alex and Bjorn, in the moment the reason he hit him was because he greeted Mia.  There’s NO excuse for that!!  This whole ‘well I’m as bad as Alex because I was in a fight over Hanna’ is bullshit too.  It’s a false equivalence - Alex attacked Bjorn because he waved at Mia and had met her at Alex’s place (exacerbated by their history, but he didn’t attack just from seeing him - that came only after he asked Mia how she knew him).  Amira was involved in a fight in the moment and it was on equal terms - they were giving as good as she did.  I didn’t like that Sana was sometimes used in this way in the og and I dislike it here too.  Making her the voice of reason when she’s saying stuff that pits disparate things as if they’re the same is a problem for me.  It’s particularly bad that Amira is saying ‘well I don’t like Alex either, but you looked at each other...’ which is a terrible message for young people.  These two were together for half a second.  Mia can and will find other, better guys.  Just because they looked at each other in a certain way doesn’t mean that they should be together.  That sort of romantic ‘star crossed lovers’ stuff is seriously annoying when banked up against all that we see of Alex in this show,  Not what we’re told, but what we see.  There’s no reason why someone like Mia a) would have got with Alex and b) would have stayed with him after the behaviours he’s shown her (and which she saw over and over again with Kiki).  He gaslighted her into getting with him to start and everyone appears to be happily gaslighting her to stay with him.  If she has reservations about him, she should listen to them.  This isn’t a one-off strange and seemingly out of character thing for him; this is exactly how he’s been for the last many many weeks.
4.  The thing that really annoys me about this (and the og) is that we can only accept Alex/William as a good guy if we have another guy acting as a really really bad guy.  Like, yes there’s no question that Bjorn is an absolute asshole, manipulative and disgusting.  But that doesn’t mean Alex isn’t also a bad guy, manipulative and disgusting.  He is those things as well.  He has some redeeming qualities?  Well, sure.  But I suspect so does Bjorn if we’re not seeing him through the villain lens, and we were talking to people who care about him.  ‘Look, this is what real gaslighting/manipulation/assholishness etc looks like, so Alex isn’t bad after all’ is again such a bad take.  One person can be a problem even if another is worse.  It’s also so random that Mia literally just trust Bjorn right away about everything, even down to ‘alcohol solves all problems’ ‘yeah okay I’ll take one’ - like why?  She clearly knows it’s a joking lie, and yet she’s all ‘sure I’ll take a beer from some guy I barely know who has some bad history with the guy I’m conflicted about and who clearly wouldn’t want to have him around’ when she doesn’t even want one.  None of it makes any sense.  If she’s really there to try to listen to Alex, why on earth would she think that chatting with this guy is a good idea?  Clearly this ‘has’ to happen for plot reasons, but from a character standpoint it doesn’t make any sense at all.  Neither does ‘I’m at your place and I wanted to talk... oh but I can’t talk later because I have to study’ - again I know for plot reasons this has to be this way, but she could just go home now and study and meet Alex later.  If she has time to talk to him now, she has time to talk to him later.
5.  The fact that she’s spending all this time hanging out with Bjorn is clearly going to come back to bite her, but unfortunately I don’t care because I dislike Alex so much that I’m not even remotely invested in the outcome of this little journey.  You can clearly see the way Bjorn is manipulating the situation and making sure there’s video and photographic evidence of them together.  And it’s obvious that it’s going to really upset Alex - he bashed him with a skateboard just for waving at Mia, after all.  But I have so little interest in this relationship, and I think Mia needs to get miles away from both these guys and so I just... don’t care.  It’s done well, this little series of clips etc, and you can see that a lot of care has gone into making this part.  But for me it falls flat because not enough time or care went into making Alex into someone I like to start with.  As bad as it is, because he’s so obviously going to be such an asshole, Bjorn currently comes across in a much more sympathetic and likeable way than Alex.  That’s partly because we didn’t spend weeks watching him trash Kiki and then be all weird and shitty around Mia, but it’s at least partly because we get to SEE and HEAR him being charming, which we never got to see with Alex.  Alex’s scenes where he was ‘nice’ were always in montage and whenever we hear him speak it’s always a lot more complex and there’s always a layer of discomfort over how he is with Mia.  And for the purposes of this part, when we supposedly don’t know how bad Bjorn is, this works.  But it also highlights a big failing in the way Alex has been presented.  We never got enough nice, charming Alex to balance out all the shitty things he’s done.
6.  The whole bit with Mia getting steadily more blurry is done really well though.  It’s obviously coming up on her in a way she hasn’t really noticed and it does make it all start to get uncomfortable alongside Mia as she slowly starts to feel uncomfortable.  And alongside that we’re back to mirrors, where Mia has always been in two minds and we haven’t seen any for a while, but now we have one again.  This time we can clearly see her in the mirror but she’s feeling blurry and so the image is blurred a little.  Alongside the disturbing sounds/music, the extreme close ups, wavering camera and the harsh glare of the light, it’s again obvious that nothing’s quite right here.  Again, we had the same lighting etc with Bjorn in the hospital and so we’re being shown he is the problem here.  But at this point Mia doesn’t know that, and we are not supposed to know that and so it’s a way of visually showing us that things are wrong without spelling it out.  It’s nicely done, even if I dislike the plot.  Bjorn really is disgusting, btw.  I’m not trying to minimise that at all and what he’s done in this scene is really gross.  But that doesn’t change that Alex is also a problem.
7.  Exhibit a: Told Mia is sick, he doesn’t leave.  Now, he probably saw the stuff on Bjorn’s social media because it was clearly designed to be seen by him, and so he’s probably not in a good space and wants to confront Mia.  But if she says she doesn’t want to see him, then he should take that and try again later.  Plus, if he hates Bjorn as much as he says he does then first, he should have made his reasons why clear earlier and second, why on earth does HE still want MIA if she’s hanging out with Bjorn?
8.  Kiki!  I really like this little moment between the two of them.  Kiki being able to say ‘I think I look great in my glasses’ when Carlos thinks they’re ugly is so good for her!  She’s come so far from the person who tried to change herself because she wasn’t good enough for Alex.  It feels a little sad that we never got to see that growth on screen, and it seems very fast from when she was still hung up on Alex, but good for her that she got there anyway.  I’m so glad that she agreed to get therapy and has used that for herself.  It’s particularly nice that we got to see her helping Nora later on, because she knows what can help because she’s been there.  I know I’ve said it before, but I really like Kiki’s development over the series and I’ve become very fond of her.  So much of me would really rather this had been a season of Mia realising that all the guys she’s hung out with have been assholes, and finding out that ‘we’re all there for you’ from the girls is what she needs (plus, a relationship with Hanna in a best case scenario, but I’d take just the friendship thing as a much more satisfying end to this part).  Honestly, learning to not rely only on herself but on her friends would work so much better than shoving an entire relationship-reboot into the final episode.  Particularly when she has literally only just told us how conflicted she is about Alex.
9.  Bjorn is entirely and completely in the wrong here.  Of course.  But in actuality, the bits about Alex aren’t wrong.  Yes, she should have reported Bjorn, but also... yes, Alex should be facing consequences for serious assault.  Like.  Again.  This isn’t a one or the other situation.  Just because Bjorn is being so overt about his gaslighting here doesn’t change the fact that Alex also gaslighted and did many other things as well.  And again it bothers me that this is here to show us ‘see.  See.  Alex isn’t as bad as we think because this guy is worse’ - I know this is a carry over from the og (and I feel like it’s a much more empowering scene for Noora than Mia which is a shame), but I really dislike the way the shows are doing this.  I really really wish this whole ‘crew love’ thing really could be the way we end up this season.  That’s a much better outcome for Mia.  And I know we have her with the girls in a good place, but honestly, we don’t need any of these boys.
Overall, there are some really nice things about this episode.  The acting, for one, is very good.  The way things were shot and shown on screen were very effective, and I am very much in love with the cinematography etc of this show as I always am.  It’s a pity they had such a terrible blueprint for this season and had to stick to it because there are glimmers in here of what could have been.

Love Guard. - Alex Morgan Imagine.
Tumblr media
Prompt:  Hey, could you do one where r is a lifeguard and the uswnt spends a day at the beach. Something happens to one of the players that requires r’s help. Maybe combined with flirting from Alex or kelley
A/N: When I received this prompt, I saw the same one in different blogs, so I decided to give it a spin. I hope you’re still around, anon. I know I’ve been taking forever and being MIA more than I’d like, but I didn’t forget. I have all of your prompts and I’m steadily working on them, I promise.
Any and all mistakes are mine. I hope you like it!
You’ve spent a thousand days on that beach; countless afternoons after school enjoying the water, and a handful of summers watching sunsets from the lifeguard tower. That place was your life before you moved out to college. It was your sanctuary when the world hadn’t discovered you yet and your skills were polished in the sand instead of a pitch.
Being there after so many years; days spent training with your club and summers conquering every tournament in existence with the USWNT, is quite an odd thing.
You’re not the same person you were back then; now you have Gold Medals and World Cups to speak for. And yet, you’re not so different; still in love with the sea and that piece of paradise with calm waves and water that barely gets to your waist for a hundred feet.
That beach is still somewhat private, a secret not many know and therefore, just a few people are there when you walk in.
The sand is as golden as you remember and the ocean awaits for you.
“How did you discover this place?”
You’re pulled back into the moment, your attention goes back to Pinoe as the woman waits for an answer, but the question isn’t directed at you.
“I used to come here every weekend when I was younger,” says Alex.
A beach day in L.A. was in the agenda and since Alex is home, she took on the guide role. You went along just to see what the forward had in mind, but you certainly weren’t expecting to be in a place that meant so much to you once upon a time.
You find it hilarious. You have so many memories there and yet you almost forgot about it completely. It’s a good thing they don’t know much about your past or the times you worked as a lifeguard in that very same place. You’re pretty sure someone would ask you to run in slow-motion just because they’re brats.
“This is amazing!”
You agree with Kelley and Sonnett as your group marches decidedly to what they claimed to be the best spot. What makes it the best spot? You’re not quite sure but help Ali and Christen to lay down enough towels for all your teammates.
Even then, you leave sunbathing to Rose, Carli and some others. The sea is calling you. The volleyball game that Alex and Kelley are starting in the water is too good to pass out and soon enough half of the team is ready to play, and the other half watches intently as they drink on all that vitamin D.
Someone turns up the music on a bluetooth speaker and that’s pretty much how madness begins. Pinoe is supposed to be your ref, but then Ash is shouting the score and confusing the hell out of everyone, Tobin changes teams at least three times, a ball hits Sam directly on the face and you’re laughing until your sides hurt.
At some point Ash, Alyssa and AD start tossing people into the water and you find it unfair when Franch zeroes on you as her next target. You try to fight her until Alex is behind you; holding you in place until the goalie can toss you over her shoulder.
“Traitor!” You shout to Alex before going underwater.
It’s not the first time Alex does something like that and you’re sure it won’t be the last. You blush whenever she’s around; your gay shows along with the crush you’ve tried to hide for months. But that woman drives you crazy, and maybe she knows it a bit too well.
You blame everything on her smile, on her eyes as blue as the sea around you. They shine with mischief every so often, and you know you’re in trouble the next time she smirks at you.
“Oh, no.”
“What?” She asks with the sweetest and most innocent look.
“I don’t like that face.”
“Really? You don’t like my face?”
Alex bats her eyelashes and pouts. By then, it’s obvious she knows exactly what she’s doing and she’s just playing with you. But you’re not quite sure if she’s just being playful because she knows you fancy her or if she likes you too.
Before you can argue your case, she splashes you in the face.
“You did not!” You exclaim in mock shock as you wipe your cheek. “This is war, Morgan!”
With the most ridiculous war cry you can muster; one you’re sure Xena would be proud of, you chase after her.
Alex is a good swimmer and a cheeky woman with the nerve to splash you again before squirming away. It’s easy to be part of her game even when she dares to splash you a third time.
You follow her deeper into the sea until the water is at your chest level and you can actually swim. The rest of the team is far behind you; the sound of their laughter faint and all your focus on the woman that has unknowingly won your heart.
“You’re going to pay for this,” you tell her once she’s within reach.
Your arms sneak around her waist and she struggles to find her footing for a second. With your help, Alex finds her balance and you smile sheepishly at her.
“I thought you were supposed to help me instead of trying to kill me.”
She says it as a joke; the kind of light jabs and playful banter you’re used to, but there’s something about the way Alex says those words that make your heart stop for a second. Alex still has that same mischievous look while you become a deer caught in the headlights.
“What?” You ask dumbfounded.
“You know,” Alex starts while her harms wrap around your neck. “There was a reason why I came to this place as often as possible.”
All the clues are tight there. The pieces of the puzzle are there for you to pick, and yet, you can’t really think straight when Alex is so close. You blame it on her eyes and how blue they are with the ocean all around you. Or maybe it’s the softness of her sun-kissed skin as she pulls you closer.
Whatever the case, you barely register that she’s talking to you.
“There was this one lifeguard,” she continues. “The cutest girl I’ve ever seen. I remember stealing glances here and there, but she was always too busy taking care of the shore. She would help anyone that asked for it. It’s just...I never had the courage to talk to her.”
“Why not?”
To you, Alex Morgan is the most confident woman in the world. In and out of the field, she radiates confidence. It’s one of the many reasons that make her a team captain. You can’t think of any circumstance where she´d shy away from something or someone.
“I’m not sure. I was embarrassed for having a crush on her. But to be honest, I think I fell a bit in love with her back then.”
“Just a bit?”
“Yes. Then another bit years later when she walked into the room as the newest member of the National Team. And maybe a little bit more every day since then.”
You remember your youth and the passion you had for the sea. You remember the lifeguard tower and everyone in there; all boys except for you. They became your family, and leaving them behind for college was hard. Still, it was the right decision.
It was in college that you found a new passion.
You discovered your speed and the mean way you could kick a ball. Talent, your coach called it, but you worked day and night to develop skills. And ultimately, those were the ones that got you into the USWNT.
Life works in funny ways.
You’re back at the start; in the same beach, with the same blue eyes following your every move. But now you have a World Cup championship under your belt, and maybe enough confidence to be with the girl of your dreams.
“Hi, I’m Y/n. I’m a Lifeguard, don’t fret. I’m here to help.”
A flash of confusion crosses Alex’s face for only a second before she understands exactly what you’re doing. She chuckles at your antics but is willing to play your game.
“Yes, please. I swam all the way here and now I can’t get back. I’m a little out of breath.”
“Is that so?”
This whole thing is silly, but the kind of silly that will make you look back with a fond smile. You have trouble trying not to laugh as you speak, but hey, Alex can’t blame you when she’s fighting her own laughter.
“We should take you back to the shore then.”
“I had a different idea,” she intercedes.
You have half a second to react before she cups your face and her lips meet yours.
It’s impossible to fight the smile off even when she’s kissing you. It’s the perfect kiss; soft, gentle and yet enough to surpass every dream you’ve ever had of this moment.
You never saw Alex on that beach; too high on the freedom the water gave you to notice anything else. Even when you were focused on the job, you were trained to pay attention to the signs of drowning and not the faces, so you barely remembered anyone.
But you saw Alex when you joined the National Team. You saw her from the moment you entered the soccer world, and maybe you also fell a bit in love with her from that day.
“Should we go back?” You ask when you finally break apart.
“Guess we have to deal with the team now.”
“So it seems.”
It doesn’t matter if Alex is a great swimmer, you use your training to guide her closer to the shore until the water is only at waist level. Instead of letting her go, you carry her bridal style to the safety of the sandy beach.
“Now you’re safe.”
“Are you sure?” She asks clingling a bit tighter to you.
“What else do you want from me, woman?”
“Another kiss.”
That’s a request you’re all too happy to comply with.
You see Alex as she truly is; beautiful and strong, resilient, capable to make the world kneel at her feet. She’s an extraordinary human being, and you love every bit of her.

sentence prompt “i’m gonna throw up” said by amelia
if you ever see this thx!
“You ready?” Amelia called into the living room, her mouth full of apples. “Do you want me to grab you something for the road?”
“I’m good,” Link replied as he entered the kitchen.
“You’re nervous,” She stated, eyeing his unsettled demeanor.
“Am not.” He looked up at her with a teasing grin before swallowing worriedly. “Should I be?”
Amelia laughed, tossing him a protein bar. “You’ll be fine. The lecture rooms are always packed for me since I operated on Nicole. I doubt anyone will show up to yours,” she teased.
“It’s mandatory for interns and residents,” he grumbled, taking a bite out of the protein bar. “This whole presentation thing is dumb. If I was an intern or resident I wouldn’t want to sit through a presentation given by every attending in the hospital.” “Not every attending,” Amelia corrected with a smile.
“I don’t know how you got out of this!” Link’s exasperated tone made her laugh.
“I’ve done my time presenting. I have actual surgeries to perform.” She grinned at him jokingly before grabbing the car keys and turning the knob to their apartment.
“Babe?”
“Yeah?” Amelia turned to find him holding a small syringe with a sympathetic smile and groaned.
She felt bad for missing Link’s presentation, which had apparently gone well. He was grinning from ear to ear when he sat down at the table for lunch.
“Someone’s happy.”
“It went well,” he stated, his face flushed with pride. “Since Nico left I need more residents interested in ortho.”
“I have mine this afternoon.” Alex chimed in, biting into his sandwich with resentment. “Bailey finally forced me to do one. I could be doing a pancreatectomy with Mer today instead but no.”
“Just skip it, I doubt anyone will care.” Meredith shrugged, pushing a strand of hair behind her ear as she jots something down in a notebook.
“It’s not like you’ll be missing me,” Alex grinned. “You get to operate with your boyfriend now.”
“Alex.” Meredith warned, glancing up from what she was studying. “We’re not in highschool.”
“Then stop acting like it. You can’t keep your hands off eachoth--”
“That’s it I’m leaving.” She packs up her notes, trying to keep a smile off her face.
“Tell Cormac I say hi,” Alex calls, using his first name for extra impact. Meredith glares at him.
“Alex,” Jo scolds, grabbing a piece of his sandwich and popping it into her mouth. “Stop being a dick.
“She’s happy,” he grins. “She likes him.”
Jo lets out an exasperated sigh and rolls her eyes. “Are you guys watching any of the presentations today?” Amelia and Link both shook their heads. “I didn’t plan on it but the rest of my day is free so I wouldn’t mind,” Amelia shrugs.
“I’m not operating until tonight,” Link agrees. “Do you know who’s presenting?” “Other than this idiot?” Jo teases. Alex throws bits of food in Jo’s direction. “You’re a child.”
“Am not,” Alex huffs.
“I know Carina’s in a half hour and Koracick is later tonight. Other than that I’m not sure,” Jo answers.
“I wouldn’t mind seeing Carina’s, she usually has something interesting going on,” Link offers.
“Oh really?” Amelia taunts.
“You shouldn’t be the one to talk,” Alex coughs, receiving a glare from Amelia and a confused look from Link. “Sorry, I’m leaving,” He chuckles.
“Hey,” Jo greeted Amelia and Link as she and Alex took seats beside them. Carina was setting up her computer and the room was buzzing with interns and residents. “Not a lot of navy scrubs.”
“Nope,” Amelia shrugged. “I guess everyone else actually has stuff to do.”
“This is stuff,” Link argued. “We’re educating ourselves.” “Right,” Alex nodded sarcastically. “You guys wake me up when it's my turn.”
“Where’s your laptop?” Jo inquired.
“I’m taking the improvisation route,” he replied. “Hey, the interns love me.” He justified himself to Jo’s unimpressed expression. The lights dimmed and the buzz in the auditorium began to subside. Carina clicked her remote and the screen turned on. Amelia let out a tiny gasp of surprise and her hand suddenly gripped Link’s leg.
“Hey, babe,” Link whispered. “What’s up?” He turned to find her staring frozen at the screen.
“Today I’m going to be talking about anencephaly in infants and how an earlier diagnosis of this birth defect can be achieved.” Carina stated proudly. Amelia couldn’t tear her eyes away from the screen. Every part of her wanted to cover her ears and block out what Carina was saying but she couldn’t. Instead she stayed frozen in her seat. She could feel Alex’s eyes on her. She knew if she turned to him he’d have that sick sympathetic look on his face that everyone she’d ever told about Christopher had given her. The auditorium was suddenly a hospital room and in her arms was a rounded, warm blanket. Little squeaks filled her ears, the same ones that had replayed in her mind a million times.
“Amelia?” Link’s hushed, worried voice brought her back to reality. He brushed his fingers over hers and she looked down to see her knuckles white, gripping into his thigh.
“I’m sorry, I…” she trailed off. Link could see panic in her eyes. Then something changed and she rocked forward slightly. “I’m going to throw up.” She pushed past Jo and Alex and quietly exited the auditorium. She barely made it to a waste bin before her entire breakfast spilled out. She felt Link’s hands pull back her hair as she spat the last couple of chunks into the bin, cringing at the acidic taste.
“Is she okay?” Jo’s voice entered the hallway.
“Jo,” Alex pulled back his girlfriend who’d followed the two surgeons out of the auditorium. “Don’t draw attention.”
“She’s sick, Alex.”
“She’ll be okay,” he winced as he took in Amelia’s panicked state. “Just give her space.” He tugged Jo back into the lecture room.
“Mia, talk to me,” Link pleaded before glancing at her abdomen. “Do you think you’re having morning sickness?” “I think I’m having a panic attack,” Amelia admitted through gasping, shaky breaths.
“Oh.” Link’s eyes flew open. “Come with me.” He guided her into and on call room before wrapping his arms around her and coaxing her into breathing regularly. “Feeling better?” “Mhmm,” Amelia replied shakily, trying not to spill the cup of water that Link had passed her. He helped her take two large gulps and then placed the cup on the ground.
“Lie down,” He ordered, wrapping her in the bed’s duvet. “You’re freezing.” Amelia nodded and curled up into the covers, relaxing into Link’s protective grasp. “Are you okay?” He finally allowed himself to show emotion and Amelia was surprised by the pain in his voice.
“Yeah.”
“You want to talk about it?”
“Not really,” she confessed. “Can you just lie with me for a bit?”
“Of course,” he sighed, placing a careful kiss on her forehead and wrapping his arms around his trembling wife. “I love you.” “I love you too.”
Amelia awoke to the light peeking through the blinds of the on call room. Link lay soundlessly beside her, his brow furrowed in concern even in his sleep. “Link.” She shook him awake. “Your surgery.” “It got pushed,” he groaned, rubbing the sleep out of his eyes. “Come here babe.” He opened his arms wide and allowed Amelia to cuddle up to him.
“I had a baby,” Amelia stated.
Link’s eyes opened in confusion. “Pardon?”
“When I lived in LA.”
“With Addison and Charlotte?”
“Yes.” She nodded. “My fiancé,” she started, ignoring Link’s uncomfort, “the one who died. It was his baby.” She wasn’t sure why she was telling him this. “Anyways, I didn’t want to get a scan cause I was high for the first month of my pregnancy. I thought there was no way that I could be carrying a healthy baby.” Her voice filled with pain as she continued. “And I was right because I found out five months in that my baby had no brain.”
“Anencephalic.”
“Yeah,” she swallowed back a sob. “And um, I was five months so I couldn’t really do anything about it at that point.”
“Oh Mia…”
“So I had the baby, Christopher, and he lived for forty three minutes and he was beautiful.” Tears were running down her face. “So I think that’s part of the reason why this IVF thing has been really hard. Cause I’m worried that even if I do get pregnant there’s going to be something wrong.”
“Amelia the chances of that happening again are so low.”
“But not zero,” She wiped her nose on her scrub top. “It’s just been a lot, Link.”
“If I’d known--”
“I didn’t want you to coddle me.” She turned to look at him. “And for you to give me the exact look you’re giving me right now. The look that everyone gives me when I tell them.”
Link looked away, “I’m sorry.” He brushed away a couple tears of his own, cursing under his breath that he should be stronger for her. “I don’t want you to feel like you can’t tell me things. I want to be there for you no matter what. Nothing you could tell me is going to make me think that you are any less strong or capable than I know you are.”
“I think I might be, Link.” She finally admits, feeling the weight she’d been carrying for the last couple of days lifting off her chest. “I haven’t taken a test but the last couple of days have felt different.” She couldn’t meet his gaze. “I’ve also been craving pepperoni which is the only thing I felt like eating when I was pregnant with Christopher.”
“Amelia.” Link was speechless.
“Link, if anything is wrong with our baby I won’t be able to forgive myself.”
“You won’t have to,” he puts simply. Suddenly he’s smiling and tears are falling down his cheeks. “We’re going to have a baby?”
“Possibly,” she nods, laughing as he throws his arms around her. “Careful.”
“Sorry, sorry!” He exclaims before pressing a feather light hand to Amelia’s stomach in awe.
“Link, baby steps.” Amelia winces.
“You’re kidding,” Link groans, before meeting Amelia’s worried blue eyes. “This is good?” He confirms.
“We need to get past the first trimester and then we can call it good,” she replies lightheartedly.
“You’re gonna have a baby bump,” he practically sings. “You’re gonna have my baby in your belly.”
“About that.” She bites her lip. Link looks up at her with shock. “I’m kidding!” She laughs.
“I hope he has my humour,” Link growls, mocking a hurt expression.
“He?” Amelia questioned.
Link nodded, “We’ve already agreed.” “We?”
“Me and baby,” Link explains.
“I still need to take a test.” Amelia shakes her head in amusement. Link was already running out the door. The test, taken in the attending lounge’s washroom, confirmed Amelia’s suspicion. Suddenly they were both crying and Link was wrapping his arms around her, taking extra special precaution around her midsection.
“I love you so much,” he kept whispering into her hair.
“I love you too,” Amelia whispered, still trying to wrap her head around the fact that a baby was growing inside of her for the second time.

Sunday, 9:27 am:
David: *woke up and noticed that the rain is still pelting down on the tent, which he found really cozy* *eventually he noticed that Matteo was also waking up and then they have made out and cuddled for a while* *when Matteo sat up to drink something, he reached for his phone to check his messages* *sees that the Team-Holidays-chat has been active for an hour*
WhatsApp Team Holidays:
Carlos: Good Morning, Guys! Is there someone already awake and made coffee?
Abdi: I'm still lying on the couch. Everything's quiet down here.
Carlos: Ey, Brudi, go make some coffee – it's not that far for you...
Abdi: *middle finger*
Kiki: Is the bathroom occupied?
Sam: Good morning. I think no one’s in the bathroom!
Amira: Good morning, everyone! I'm making coffee now. You can come down in five minutes.
Carlos: Amira, I love you!
Kiki: Dibs on the bathroom!
Hanna: Good morning, everyone! Kiki, hang on a second, I have to pee.
Jonas: God moooorning! Hey, guys, it's still raining! Hopefully it'll stop sometime today...
Kiki: @ Hanna: Okay.
Carlos: Do you think Davenzi are still alive?
Abdi: Maybe Mia can see the tent from the window upstairs... Mia? Are you awake?
Sam: Maybe they've been washed away by a tide...
Amira: Coffee is ready!
Carlos: Coming!
Jonas: I'm also coming!
Hanna: @ Kiki: Bathroom is all yours!
Abdi: Hey, Davenzi, are you still alive?
Alex: Mia is still asleep... good morning!
Carlos: @ Alex: So? Is the tent still there?
Alex: I'm still in bed
Carlos: Then get up and look out the window, it's right next to you.
Alex: Um, no.
Carlos: If they were washed away and we can't save them in time, then it's your fault. I hope that you're aware of that??
Alex: I can live with that.
Amira: Who will come help me get breakfast ready?
Carlos: I'll first go upstairs to look out of the window.
Alex: No, you won't.
Abdi: I'll come help you, Amira.
Amira: Thanks.
Mia: I'm awake. Good morning. Carlos, don't come upstairs, I'll go check in a second.
Amira: We intercepted him, he's helping us set the table.
Mia: The tent's still up, but it looks like they've left their clothes outside.
Carlos: *sends eggplant emoji*
Abdi: You think they haven't even made it inside the tent in this weather?
Carlos: No idea, they're into water, after all.
Amira: BTW, breakfast is almost ready, in case you're hungry.
Kiki: I'm done in the bathroom!
Sam: Oh, that was fast. Then I'll go next.
Mia: We'll be down for breakfast in a minute.
*has read everything and then answers, after all*
David: Matteo and I are awake and still alive. We'll also come over for breakfast in a minute...
Carlos: Thank God! They're alive! Hurry up, Brudis! We already started a second pot of coffee!
David: *grins slightly and pulls Matteo back toward him as he’s finished drinking* *presses a kiss to his temple and says* Breakfast is ready and we’re being missed… *holds his phone out to him so that he knows what he’s talking about* *still wraps both his arms around him again and grumbles pleasantly* I’m afraid my stomach wants us to go have breakfast… but my laziness-level has been infected by you and wants to stay here…
Matteo: *puts the lid back on the bottle and puts it to the side* *cuddles closer to David again and grumbles a little* But breakfast sounds good… *briefly looks at his phone and sees the holiday-chat, but doesn’t read what exactly they’ve texted* *hums in agreement* How likely is it that we’ll manage to make someone bring us breakfast to the tent? *but immediately shakes his head* Zero, I know… alright… *moves, but quickly kisses David again, and then sits up* Come on, let’s go have breakfast… *grabs a t-shirt from his bag and puts it on* *puts on his pants while still sitting down and then looks at David* Come on… food…
David: *laughs quietly at Matteo’s question and shakes his head* *simultaneously with Matteo says* Very unlikely… *halfheartedly tires to stop Matteo from sitting up, but then lets go of him with a grumble and sits up as well* *opens the tent and looks outside* Hmmm… it’s only drizzling now… we should manage to make it to the cabin more or less dry… *also reaches for his bag and takes out a clean binder* *then realizes that he doesn’t have any clean shirts left and decides to keep his sleep shirt on, because he’s only been wearing it since last night* Hey, we really have to wash some shirts today… let’s already take them to the cabin and if it stops raining later, we’ll hang them up outside. *puts the binder on and his shirt back over it* *grabs clean pants and puts them on as well* *then laughs quietly* And we should also put our shoes somewhere so that they’ll hopefully dry… *reaches for his slippers and collects a few dirty shirts which are lying around* *presses a quick kiss to Matteo’s lips before he crawls to the opening of the tent*
Matteo: *nods slightly* Yep, we do… *simply grabs his bag where only dirty shirts are left, anyways* *takes the shirts from David and stuffs them in the bag, as well* *also grabs his slippers and crawls outside* *then collects the clothes on the grass and also adds them to the bag* *has his bag in one hand and his shoes in the other* *they stomp over to the cabin like that* *can already see Carlos wildly waving his arms about when they get closer: “Budiiiis, so good to see you!"* *laughs* It wasn’t that bad… morning, everyone… *puts down the bag and the shoes and then wants to sit down* *but then notices that the only two remaining seats aren’t next to each other* *stops and wonders if he should say something or if that’s stupid when he hears Jonas laughing: “I told you, his look is gonna be awesome”* *then hears Abdi: “And you were right”* *sees Abdi get up and sit down somewhere else so that there are two empty chairs next to each other* *gives them David’s secretary’s-office-look* Haha… *but quickly sits down*
David: *goes to the cabin with Matteo and puts his shoes next to Matteo’s* *also wishes everyone a good morning and grins when Carlos greets them so exuberantly* *then wants to sit down and also notices the dilemma with the seats* *briefly looks at Matteo a little dumbfounded but then thinks that they shouldn’t make such a big deal out of it* *looks between Jonas and Abdi and grins slightly when he understands that the friends just wanted to test them* *also sits down quickly and says* We really /could/ manage to not sit next to each other, if we wanted to… but we don’t want to… *hears Jonas’ laugh: “Yeah, we got it!"* *quickly looks at the group and sees that, like always, all the couples are sitting next to each other and briefly wonders why it’s such a big deal when it comes to him and Matteo* *sees Amira hand him some coffee: “Coffee?"* *accepts it* Ohhh yes, gladly! Thanks! *pours some for him and Matteo and then hands the pot to Abdi, who doesn’t have any, either* *looks at the others* And all of you slept in the house!? *sees Sam nod: “Yep! Was really cozy! But Abdi snores!"* *hears Abdi’s indignant response: “I don’t!" and Carlos: “Dude, we can hear you every night even in our room!" and Jonas: “I can confirm that!" and Hanna’s explanation to Matteo and him: “Sam and Amira stayed in the living room with Abdi and Jonas and I in Kiki and Carlos’ room,” and Kiki: “Yes, that was really quite cozy! A little like a sleepover…” and hears Carlos directed toward Matteo and him: “And what about you? Was your tent waterproof?"*
Matteo: *shrugs one shoulder when David says that they could also not sit next to each other* *somehow thinks that they don’t have to justify themselves* *immediately pulls his coffee closer and blows on it* *somehow isn’t really awake yet* *then looks at Hanna when she explains the sleeping-situation and nods* But four people in such a small room is quite something… *then nods at Carlos* Yeah, it was waterproof… sometimes the wind shook it a little, but it was really okay… I think all of you would have survived, as well… *then grabs a slice of bread and hears Kiki say: “Oh, could you add bread to the list, if you go shopping tomorrow?"* *nods and looks at Jonas, who also nods: “Noted."* *they all have breakfast and when they’re finished, he and David offer to clear the table since they didn’t help with setting it* *hears Kiki clap her hands enthusiastically: “Very well, and then we’ll all meet back inside and we’ll have a nice, cozy rain-day in the cabin”* *hears a few people laugh and Hanna ask: “Let me guess, you’ve got a program?"* *already gets up and starts to clear the plates off the table while Kiki answers: “Not really, but we’ll think of something…”* *doesn’t really believe her, but gets out of the situation by taking the plates to the kitchen*
David: *asks the others* Who's going shopping? Do you still need someone to come with you? *sees Jonas shake his head* It's okay... Abdi, Amira, Sam, Hanna and I wanted to go. Should be enough. We'll take the van. But look at the list, guys. If you think we need anything else, please put it on there!"* *nods and also grabs a slice of bread as well as the butter and the cheese* *after breakfast he and Matteo clear the table and do the dishes* *then goes to the living room with him, where most people are already gathered and chatting away or playing with their phones* *due to the lack of seats he sits down on the floor and leans his back against the couch* *eventually hears Abdi: "Hey, we really should have brought the PlayStation – today would be a really good day for it..." and Amira: "Really nice. And what would we be supposed to do while you play?!” and Carlos: "They also have games for girls..." and Mia: "What are games for girls supposed to be?!” and Carlos: "No idea... Singstar or Sims or something..."* *sees Mia nod: "So girls can't play games for boys!?” and hears Carlos groan: "Gee, Mia..."* *then sees Kiki come into the room with a pot of coffee: "Guys, the next time we come here with 11 people we really have to bring another coffee maker!"* *holds his empty mug out to Kiki and is a little surprised when she really pours him some* Thanks... *then sees her squeeze herself on the couch between Carlos and Abdi and sees her grimace: "Man, could you maybe put your phones away? That's totally non-communicative!"*
Matteo: *quickly puts the last plates back in the cupboard while David has already joined the others* *then goes over to them, as well, and looks at the group in search for somewhere to sit down* *briefly considers showing the others that he can also not sit close to David* *but immediately dislikes that thought and goes over to him* *grins when he automatically makes some space and then sits down between his legs* *grins slightly at Kiki's comment and really sees everyone putting their phones away* *hears Jonas ask: "And now? Are you going to tell us a story from your youth, Kiki?"* *hears Kiki: "I'm still young!"* *laughs together with the others* Sure... *takes David's mug, takes a sip, and then presses it back into his hands* *then hears Kiki: "We could spin the bottle!"* *groans together with the others* *hears Kiki again: "Or truth or dare!"* *only shakes his head and then surprisingly hears Hanna agreeing with Kiki: "Why not? Could be fun... and maybe we can really find out some things that we haven't known about each other."* *then also hears Sam: "Yes, I agree... and Alex and David are basically new to the group, they don't know us that well, and we don't know them that well... I like it, let's do this!"* *sighs slightly and says* But only if you can also refuse to answer...
David: *loosely wraps one arm around Matteo’s stomach and takes his hand as it’s just lying around* *grins at the exchange of words between Jonas and Kiki and hears everyone groan when Kiki suggests truth or dare* *grins and shrugs* *then hears Sam’s comment and nods* And I’ve never played it. I’ve heard that that’s a no-go at my age. So I’m all for it! *then hears Carlos: “Brudi, you’ve never played truth or dare before!?”* *laughs and shakes his head* With whom!? *sees Carlos’ pensive look and eventually sees him nod: “Yes, okay, let’s play!"* *hears Amira respond to Matteo’s ‘but’: “We can give everyone a joker, and with that they can refuse to answer."* *hears everyone agree to that and sees Sam quickly empty her bottle of water and put it down between them: “I’ll start!"* *watches her spin the bottle and sees it stop pointing at Amira, who hides her face behind her hands and eventually hears her say: “Okay, I’ll take truth!"* *sees Sam grin and think about it briefly and then hears her ask: “If you would have to let someone kiss you out of all the people here, who would it be?"*
Matteo: *grins slightly when out of everyone Sam asks Amira something like that* *but then sees that Amira apparently doesn’t really mind the question and sees her looking at everyone* *then sees her gaze land on him and grins at her* *sees her grin as well and hears her say: “Matteo."* *laughs slightly and shakes his head* *hears Sam: “And why?"* *hears Carlos say immediately: “Hey, only one question!"* *laughs and then answers for Amira* No danger! *sees her grin and nod and leans forward to bump his fist against the one Amira is holding out* *then hears Kiki: “There wouldn’t be any danger with me, either!"* *laughs slightly* Don’t be jealous, Kiki! *then sees Amira spin the bottle and sees it pointing at Mia* *immediately hears her say “truth”* *hears Amira: “Okay… hmmm… if you had to build a raft with two people from this group, who would you pick?"*
David: *at first looks a little surprised when Amira says Matteo’s name and automatically wraps his arm a little tighter around him, but then loosens his grip again when he hears her explanation* *takes another sip of coffee and then sees the bottle pointing at Mia* *sees her look at everyone, as well, and hears her answer: “Well, since my boyfriend has already admitted that he sucks at handiwork, I’d pick Hanna and David. They are both good at planning, can think logically and can both work hard."* *grins and sees Hanna high-five Mia and then sees her hold her hand out for him to high-five* *gives her a high-five and then does an air high-five with Mia, as she’s too far away* *hears Carlos: “And if you could have chosen three people?" and Mia, while she’s already spinning the bottle: “But I was only allowed to pick two."* *sees the bottle pointing at Jonas and hears him demand truth, as well* *sees Mia think for a moment and then hears her ask: “If you had the power to change one thing in the system, what would it be?"*
Matteo: *laughs at Carlos’ question* I would pick you, Carlito! *sees Carlos looking at him happily and sees him form a heart for him with his hands* *only grins* *then hears Mia’s question and grins again* *thinks that it’s the perfect question for Jonas* *then hears him answer: “Hmmmm, to have more say… regardless of the topic, the people up there make decisions and then we have to see how we deal with them."* *sees Alex twitch and sees Mia squeeze his arm a little and how Alex closes his mouth again* *grins slightly and then sees Jonas spinning the bottle and sees it pointing at him when it stops* *then hears Carlos: “Okay, but is that David or Matteo?"* *quickly says* David. *hears the others laugh and hears Jonas say: “Well, you’re the one sitting in the front..."* *shakes his head* Then it’s never David’s turn… *then turns around to David* Now it’s your turn and next time it’s mine? *sees him shrug and hears him say: “Okay… then truth”* *sees Jonas nod and think about it and then hears him ask: “What annoys you the most about Matteo?"* *looks at him indignantly* Traitor!
David: *grins when Matteo says that he’d pick Carlos to build a raft and is just about to think about who he’d pick when Jonas already answers Mia’s question and he stops his musings so he can listen to Jonas* *slowly nods at his answer but also notices Mia holding Alex back when he wants to say something* *then sees the bottle pointing at Matteo and him after Jonas spun it and immediately answers Carlos’ question with* Matteo! *laughs when Matteo says his name and then says* We’ll just take turns… *then nods at the decision that it’s his turn first and groans when he hears Jonas’ question* *complains* Dude, that’s mean… nothing! *hears everyone laugh and Jonas say: “That’s impossible! There has to be something that annoys you!"* *runs a hand through Matteo’s hair and thinks* *shakes his head because he can’t really think of anything* *then sees the amused looks of the others and thinks that he has to come up with something* *eventually sighs and says* Maybe that he’s often putting himself behind when it’s about me… although that’s also something good… well… but yes, if I have to say something, then that’s it… *sees some of the girls smile at his answer and hears Jonas say: “Hey, come on, he’s not that perfect!" and hears Carlos: “He does have a lot of flaws…”* *only shakes his head and finds it a little annoying that the guys are constantly nagging Matteo* I don’t mind flaws. I have a few of them myself… *leans forward to spin the bottle and has to grin a little when it points at Matteo and him again* Your turn… truth or dare? *already knows that Matteo will pick “truth” and immediately gets his confirmation* *thinks briefly and then asks* What do you think your friends value the most about you? *hopes that this isn’t too personal but really wants their friends to see what a great person Matteo actually is*
Matteo: *laughs when David says that nothing annoys him* Good boy… *closes his eyes for a second when David runs his hand through is hair but opens them again immediately* *then grimaces slightly at David’s answer and squeezes his hand a little more* *doesn’t think that he’s that perfect, either, but feels blissful that David sees it like that* *then has to laugh a little when the bottle is pointing at them again and immediately picks truth because he doesn’t want to move* *thinks that David will make it easy for him* *then hears his question and realizes that he was wrong* Oh… umm… no idea? Wouldn’t that be a better question for them? *shrugs one shoulder* I’d say… that I let them win at all kinds of sports? *sees Jonas shake his head: “Dude, Luigi, you don’t really believe that, do you? So, if I’m allowed to take over: What I value most about Matteo is his big heart, he always notices straight away if someone isn’t doing too good and then he’s there for you."* *gets a little embarrassed and shakes his head slightly* *then also hears Carlos: “I think his sense of humor is really great, you can talk the biggest nonsense with him, but when it matters, he can also be serious."* *shakes his head again and only shrugs one shoulder*
David: *tilts his head when Matteo asks if that wouldn’t be a better question for the others* It actually would be… but unfortunately that’s against the rules… *looks at the guys with slightly raised eyebrows while he says that* *realizes quickly that the question makes Matteo feel uncomfortable and almost regrets asking it, but then thinks that the others should also witness at least once how much Matteo always puts himself last* *laughs quietly and nudges him slightly when he mentions sports and murmurs* You can’t be serious… *is glad when Jonas and then also Carlos butt in and tell him what they value about Matteo* *now also hears Abdi: “Yeah, man, I agree! It isn’t important who wins at ping-pong – that’s not what makes you, you; it's all the other things!"* *feels Matteo getting embarrassed and notices that he can’t really accept the compliments and squeezes his hand slightly and presses a kiss to his temple* *then says to the guys* Not that annoying, is he? *grins slightly and then nudges Matteo* Your turn…
Matteo: *hears Abdi, as well, and already reaches for the bottle* *feels like the guys think that they have to say something and doesn’t want that, at all* *is really surprised when he hears David’s question, which almost sounds a little provocative* *then hears Hanna, as well: “Whoa, guys, careful, sometimes David can bite.”* *quickly leans forward to spin the bottle* *sees it pointing at Carlos, who immediately says “dare!”* *thinks about it for a moment and then grins* Hmmm, do our laundry! *hears everyone laugh and sees Carlos shake his head: “No, Brudi, that’s not how the game works!"* *laughs slightly* Okay, okay, umm… show us your most embarrassing experience by only using pantomime… *sees Carlos jump up and start his pantomime and leans back against David a little more*
David: *grins slightly at Hanna’s words and draws up his eyebrows, but then concentrates on the bottle, which eventually points at Carlos* *laughs out loud when Matteo suggests he do their laundry and nods enthusiastically* *then wonders briefly why that doesn’t count, but then thinks that it’s probably okay as no one disagrees* *wraps his arms around Matteo when he leans back again and watches Carlos do his pantomimes* *sees him touch his butt and pretend as if he were running* *hears Sam: “Did a dog bite you in the butt!?” and Abdi: “Dude, noo, he’s got diarrhea!"* *sees Carlos nod and act as if he were banging on a closed door* *laughs and then hears Hanna: “Oh no! And you didn’t make it in time!?”* *sees Carlos grimace, nod, and eventually hears him say: “I was 8 and at school! Suuper embarrassing!"* *almost feels sorry for him but has to grin nevertheless* *sees Carlos spin the bottle and sees it pointing at Alex* *hears him groan quietly and pick dare* *thinks that this somehow suits him and that Alex would probably do the most embarrassing things instead of revealing something about himself in front of the group* *then hears Carlos say without hesitation: “Do the chicken dance and hum along!”*
Matteo: *somehow doesn’t really watch what Carlos is doing* *tries to cuddle even more into David’s arms and hide himself* *thinks about the fact that he couldn’t say what his friends value about him and also about the fact that David said that he’s putting himself behind so much* *doesn’t really know yet what to think of either of these things* *then sees Carlos’ bottle pointing at Alex and for a brief moment wishes that the two of them would get into a fight, just to provide some distraction* *but then sees Alex grumpily getting up and really do the dance – much to the enjoyment of the others* *sees the bottle spin and pointing at Kiki and hears Kiki pick truth* *sees Alex think and then hears him ask: “You’ve got one day left to life, what do you do?"* *isn’t surprised when Kiki starts to talk about wellness and Carlos and her girls and also sees that Alex isn’t surprised* *sees Kiki spin the bottle and the bottle pointing at him again* Dude, that can’t be… *then hears Carlos: “It’s David’s turn, anyways!"* Yes, but still, it’s the third time, it didn’t even point at Abdi and Sam and Hanna once, yet… *then hears Kiki: “I have something for both of you, if that’s okay. Reenact your first conversation for us."* *immediately shakes his head, because of course he’s thinking about the eyelash-conversation and looks at David* We won’t do that!
David: *has to grin really wide when Alex really does the chicken dance and applauds when he’s finished* *then listens to Kiki, who is next, but isn’t really too surprised about what he hears* *then groans when the bottle points at Matteo and him again and briefly hides his face in Matteo’s shoulder when Carlos points out that it’s his turn and not Matteo’s* *but then looks up again when Kiki says that she has a question for both of them* *slightly grins when he hears it and is a little surprised when Matteo immediately shakes his head* *slightly nudges him in the side and says* Oh, come on, it wasn’t that bad… *then thinks that Matteo might think about the eyelash and running away and leans down to him to tell him what he’s thinking about instead* *quietly murmurs* I wouldn’t go in there…
Matteo: *sees Jonas smirking a little when he doesn’t want to tell them* *thinks that it’s easy for him to talk* *was just about to object when David says that it wasn’t that bad* *but then hears his words and grins* Right, thanks… *then hears Kiki: “So, what’s it gonna be?"* *nods* Sure… we can do that… *turns around a little so that he can look at David* *then hears Kiki murmur: “Oh, I’m so excited, finally."* *shakes his head in amusement and then says to David* I wouldn’t go in there… *sees David grin and hears him ask “why?"* *grins, because he knows that Kiki will surely get angry at him in a second* They’re doing some trust circle thing… with holding hands and stuff… unless you want to do something like that… *hears the guys howling and Abdi yell “you player”*
David: *has to laugh when Kiki says that she’s excited, but then gets serious again when Matteo turns around to him and starts* *grins briefly when he hears the guys’ howling but then looks back at Matteo and continues* *hesitates briefly and then says* Nope. *hears Matteo: “That’s what I thought… wanna get high?"* *remains serious, even though he’s pretty amused about how dull their first conversation had been* *answers* Yeah, sure… *then thinks that this is enough and pulls Matteo closer again* *laughs* Okay, that’s enough! *looks at the others and sees amused faces* *then hears Sam’s question: “Hey, was that before the Abi-prank-meeting!?”* *nods and sees that Kiki is no longer grinning: “Hey, Matteo, you prevented him from coming to the meeting?! We really could have used a few more people!”*
Matteo: *grins slightly when he thinks about this first conversation* *then also hears Abdi: “Hey, David, but you really weren’t the biggest talker, huh?"* *then also hears Jonas, who laughingly says: “I cant believe that your pick-up line was getting high”* *shrugs* Well, it worked, didn’t it? *then hears Sam and knows that Kiki will be angry soon* *shrugs apologetically* Sorry, but… you did a /trust circle/… I had to protect him! *sees Kiki shake her head: “No, Matteo, I really don’t think that’s funny. It’s already bad enough that you left, but that you even prevented other people from coming…”* *slightly tilts his head* Hey, but it all worked out, didn’t it? The Abi-prank went great!
David: *grins at Abdi’s words and shrugs* I first had to see what kind of guy Matteo is… *hears everyone laughing and runs a hand through Matteo’s hair and presses a kiss to his temple* *then laughs when Matteo stresses the trust circle so much and nods enthusiastically* And I’m really grateful to you for that! *then hears Kiki say that she doesn’t think that it’s funny and adds to Matteo’s words* I agree. And in the end, you made me edit the photos. So everything turned out fine! *then hears Amira: “Yes, and then? How did the conversation continue? You got high and what did you talk about!?”* *laughs and shakes his head* That’s private! *now also hears Sam: “Hey, come on, guys! We need some fluff!"* *shakes his head again* There was no fluff… we were both… super cool and stuff… *laughs and squeezes Matteo close* *definitely doesn’t want to tell the eyelash-story*
Matteo: *slightly rolls his eyes at David’s words* Yeah, yeah… *then nods* Exactly, he did a lot for the Abi-prank… *shakes his head at the same time David does when Amira asks how the conversation continued* Yep, you really don’t want to hear that. *then also hears Sam and shakes his head again* *laughs slightly* Yes, exactly, super cool and so on… *hears everyone laugh and Carlos say: “Admit it, you made a complete fool of yourself!”* *gins and shrugs one shoulder* Maybe a little… *then hears Kiki: “Alright, then spin the bottle again.”* *grabs the bottle and hands it to David* Your turn.
David: *grins at Carlos’ suspicion and murmurs* Not only he… *then leans forward to spin the bottle and sees it land on Abdi* *they keep playing “truth or dare” the entire morning and are having a lot of fun* *around noon the group splits a little as some people start making lunch, others want some privacy and some people go take a shower* *also quickly has a shower and then he and Matteo do their laundry because according to the weather forecast, the sun’s supposed to come out again in the afternoon, which it does* *after lunch they all watch a movie together, because Mia accidentally let it slip that Alex has brought his laptop and DVDs on their holiday and when the sun really comes out again in the afternoon, they hang up their shirts and then decide to go into the lake again* *they meet back at the cabin for dinner again, although he had taken off his binder before that as his eight hours had been up* *still feels really uncomfortable, even though it was a little easier for him because Matteo was also wearing a hoodie, and because due to the thunderstorm the weather has cooled down a little and it wasn’t that hot anymore and it hadn’t been that weird for him to not wear a t-shirt during dinner* *is still tugging at his shirt, especially at the beginning of dinner, and is still quite tense and a little shaky* *but relaxes a little over the course of the evening, albeit not completely, and later, when he’s back in the tent with Matteo, he thinks that it had already been a little easier than two days ago*

The mistakes we're going to make (Jan/Jackie) - Meggie
A/N: Hey all! I had the pleasure of writing this little gem for Molly for our gc’s gift exchange. I really enjoy writing this dynamic, and I hope you all enjoy it too! Thank you to Mac, Mia, and Alex for prereading for me. Y'all are the real MVPs.
Summary: when i look at you, all i can see are the mistakes we’re going to make (the future’s so bright)
They’re graduating high school tomorrow night, but all Jan can think about is her calculus final and whether or not she can scrape by with an A.
She’s done the calculations approximately 47 times (and had Jackie check them over nine more because Jan’s shit at math now apparently), and she knows she has to make an 82 on the final to pull an A in the class. And that will get her an 89.5 which rounds to an A. She’d rather not cut it that close, thank you very much.
To anyone else, a B would not be the end of the world, but it would be Jan’s only B. Ever. To get out of high school with a perfect GPA, an unblemished transcript, a perfect record… That’s been her goal ever since she graced the hallways of R.P. Charles High School three years ago.
So after finishing Ms. West’s history final, she pulls out her calc book and dutifully studies her notes. They’re meticulous, her rounded penmanship in stark black ink. She purses her lips and wonders if she has enough time to redo them in colored ink according to her color-coding system.
Behind her, Brita mutters to herself and furiously erases a sentence in her essay. Written responses have always been her downfall. To Jan’s right, Gigi takes a mirror out of her purse and retouches her lipstick.
“Why are you studying?” Gigi whispers. “You literally just finished a test, and it’s a half day. We’re done after this.”
“Yeah, but my calc test is tomorrow, and Ms. Hytes is not as lenient a grader as Ms. West.” Jan sighs and runs a hand through her hair.
Gigi pulls a face. “God, why’d you even take calc? You didn’t need the credit.” Gigi had taken personal health instead of a math class. She said their final was about sexually transmitted infections, which apparently is the new name for sexually transmitted diseases.
Jan shrugs. “I wanted to be—”
“—valedictorian, yeah, I know,” Gigi finishes. “Well, anyway. That didn’t work out the way you planned, did it?”
At the front of the room, Ms. West clears her throat and widens her eyes at the girls. Gigi sits back in her desk and primly folds her hands. Jan is free to once again study her notes, but Gigi’s last words still sting.
She had only taken calculus because it was an AP class, guaranteed to get her extra GPA points she would need to wrap up the valedictory. What she hadn’t counted on was being terrible at calculus.
Sure, geometry hadn’t been a walk in the park, but trig had been a piece of cake. So she figured that with a little bit of extra studying, she could carve out an A and stake her claim on the title of valedictorian, something she’d wanted ever since she had learned what the valedictorian was. (Kindergarten. When her parents had taken her to see her cousin graduate. And the pretty girl at the front had gotten up to make a speech in front of all her classmates, and everyone had to pay attention to her for a whole ten minutes while she talked about things that were important to her. Jan wanted that.)
But in March after third quarter grades were calculated and the honors had been announced, she’d ended up salutatorian, literally two hundredths of a point behind Jackie Cox. It had been a two-man race between her and Jackie all throughout high school, but the difference had been that damn calculus class. Jackie had an A; Jan had a B.
Jan’s parents had doted on her just the same as they would have if she’d been valedictorian, taking her to dinner at her favorite restaurant, celebrating with cake and sparkling grape juice out of the champagne flutes usually reserved for New Year’s Eve, but Jan couldn’t help but sense a little tinge of disappointment behind their smiles. Close, but no cigar. She’d still give a speech, but it would be shorter, and no one really cared what the salutatorian had to say. She’d worked so hard for four years to achieve the top honor and now she had to stand back and watch someone else deliver her valedictory.
Even if that someone was her very close friend.
There’s a certain closeness that develops between students when you take all the same classes for four years, and Jackie Cox had been in all of Jan’s classes since freshman year. By design, their schedules had ended up being very similar. It helped that they were into the same extracurricular activities as well. They were both athletic, both involved in student government and the debate team. They even both participated in the spring musicals: Jan onstage in a lead role, Jackie backstage as part of the tech crew.
But as their friendship grew so did their rivalry, at least on Jan’s part. She’d always seen Jackie as a reminder that she had to work harder to be her best. With Jackie, everything always seemed so effortless. Her poise, her perfection, even the way she spoke and carried herself. Jan felt like she herself was constantly obsessing over everything she thought and said. When she looked at Jackie, she felt like the other girl just had a natural ease about her.
She’d tried for years to be more like Jackie. But the feeling grew especially deep after they’d received their first calculus quizzes in October and Jan’s was emblazoned with a fat, red D. Jackie’s, on the other hand, sported an A.
Ms. Hytes had asked Jan to stay behind after class so she could encourage her to either drop the class or consider hiring a tutor.
Failure was absolutely out of the question. So Jan asked for help. She asked Jackie for help.
Honestly, if it wasn’t for Jackie, she wouldn’t be pulling a B in calculus. Not at all. In fact, she probably would have failed out at semester.
So now that there’s this final that she has to prepare for, there’s only one person she trusts to help her study for it.
Jan catches Jackie in the hallway (their lockers are nowhere close because that’s the way life—and the alphabet—works, but Jan is good at getting what she wants), and asks her if she feels ready for the final tomorrow.
Jackie sighs, the exhalation blowing the dark curtain of hair off her forehead. “I mean, I think. I might look over my notes again tonight. You feel good about it?”
Jan laughs, high-pitched, a tell-tale sign of her anxiety. She hates that she wears her emotions like an oversized sweater. “No, actually. That’s kind of why I’m here.”
So anyway, that’s how they end up on Jan’s bedroom floor, calculus books open in their laps, a plate of chocolate chip cookies and glasses of Dr Pepper set aside because Jackie is a Professional when it comes to this whole studying thing.
(That’s probably why she’s the valedictorian and you’re not, a hateful, nasty voice whispers in the back of Jan’s head. Because she’s dedicated to studying and you’re worried about whether or not she likes your cookies.)
She won’t think about the fact that for the past six months, she’s also been concerned about whether or not Jackie likes her.
It’s not exactly something she’s prepared to deal with.
Jan’s dated before, of course, but they’ve always been boys. And now, all of a sudden and by some act of whatever god exists, she finds herself having a massive crush on Jackie.
So she’s bisexual. It’s fine. She’s had years to deal with this, and she’s always kind of wondered.
Honestly, she’s chalking it up to academic jealousy.
Jan just wants to be like her, that’s all. It has nothing to do with the way her long, dark hair cascades in waves down her back, or the way her eyes sparkle when she laughs, or the way Jackie had caught her backstage right before opening night of Carousel and grasped her hands and told her to break a leg and knock them dead and basically be the best Carrie anyone had ever seen before kissing her cheek.
Except it totally does.
“So to compute the three-by-three you have to multiply A by the two-by-two determinant of the matrix,” Jackie says, marking something in her notebook. “Now, how do I get that?”
“Huh?” Jan asks stupidly, brought back from her reverie by the question. “God, I’m sorry. I’m just…” She scrubs her hands down her face then immediately regrets it because her eyeliner is now definitely smeared. “I’m out of it.”
Jackie nods and presses her lips together. She breathes in quickly like she’s going to say something, but changes her mind at the last minute. She taps her pencil on her notebook.
“Sorry I’m wasting your time,” Jan says sheepishly. “You can go if you want…”
“No!” Jackie says quickly. “No, it’s not that. I just… I’m just wondering…” She sighs. “Things have been kind of weird between us ever since spring break… Since the honors were announced, and I just…” She shrugs. “I guess I just want to know if you like, hate me for being valedictorian over you.”
Jan gasps. “I could never hate you.” She hadn’t known that her disappointment was quite so palpable. Then she decides that Jackie deserves to know the absolute truth. “I was disappointed. My parents expect a lot out of me, and they… They’ve been pushing for this since, like, forever. I just didn’t want to let them down.”
Jackie’s eyes widen. “Salutatorian is letting them down?”
Jan shakes her head. “You don’t know my parents.”
“No. But I think I kind of understand. ” Jackie closes her book and pulls her knees into her chest. “You know my parents immigrated from Iran, right? So like, the American dream? That’s all they want for me. And that includes college. A good one.” She laughs. “My mom wants me to be a doctor.”
“What do you want to be?” Jan asks quietly.
Jackie’s quiet for a moment before she shakes her head. “I don’t know. I don’t think anyone’s actually asked me that before. Isn’t that wild? I’m 18, and I have no idea what I want to do with the rest of my life.”
Jan shrugs. “We’re 18. I don’t think we’re supposed to know what we want to do with the rest of our lives.”
“I know one thing I want to do, though,” Jackie says, smiling. “When I get to college, I’m going to kiss a girl. I’ve always wanted to. I mean, I know I’m gay so like. That’ll be nice.”
“You can’t do that here?”
“Are you kidding?” She scoffs. “My mother would kill me. And that’s before my dad finds out.”
Jan shrugs. “You could kiss me. If you wanted.” Her cheeks fill with color. She’s never this brash, this forward. But the opportunity had presented itself and she’d taken it. “I mean, or not. Whatever. It’s fine—”
“Jan.” Jackie’s looking at her, dark eyes narrowed as her hand creeps up to cup her chin gently, and Jan has just enough time to gasp in a shock of air before their lips meet softly, tenderly, slowly meshing together. Kissing Jackie is so much better than kissing any of the boys she’s ever dated before.
Jackie pulls away far before Jan wants her to, and she’s left wanting more. She shudders a sigh and opens her eyes slowly.
“Wow,” she says.
“Yeah,” Jackie replies, brushing the hair off her shoulders. “That was… Umm. We should probably study, though.”
“Right. Of course.” Jan blushes again. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to… Distract you.”
“Jan…” Jackie’s hand falls softly over her knee. “We can kiss more when we get through matrix determinants, okay?”
Jan isn’t sure what it is, but something about this new teaching method suddenly makes perfect sense.
She makes a 93 on her final and finishes the semester with an A.

Falling Back Into You (Chapter 1) - Alex Morgan imagine
Tumblr media
(A/N): Here’s a multi-chaptered SingleMom! Alex Morgan imagine nobody asked for but I’m going to give you guys anyway lmao. Alex and r are former teammates on the USWNT and haven’t seen each other in years. Shoutout to the cracl heads who are helping me name OCs.
It’s been about 10 years since (Y/N) had seen most of her US national team teammates, with her retirement and social work keeping her away.
So she had absolutely no idea that the kid who caught her eye in a soccer camp she helped with was more connected to her than she thought.
The seven-year-old girl peaked (Y/N)’s attention with her prowess on the field, but what really intrigued her was the kid’s smile that (Y/N) swore she already saw somewhere else.
The girl continued to practice after camp finished, running up and down the field with her small legs handling the ball.
Drawn to the child’s motivation, (Y/N) approached her.
“Still not tired after training with us I see” (Y/N) said, looking affectionately at the young player.
She looked up at (Y/N) and beamed. The older woman was caught off-guard with her eyes, a mix of green and blue that seem so familiar.
“Nope. I want to be the best in the world, like my momma!” The kid said, showing off some dribbling skills to the former USWNT star.
(Y/N) chuckled.
“Yeah? You’re mom was a soccer player too?” (Y/N) said, motioning for the girl to pass the ball to her.
“Yup! The absolute best!” The girl replied. The pair continued passing the ball back and forth.
“Well, I’d sure like to meet her. I want to learn and play with the absolute best in soccer” (Y/N) said, grinning at the kid.
The girl seemed keen to the idea, with her face lighting up at the mention of playing with her mother.
“That would be awesome. She’d kick your ass” The girl replied. (Y/N) giggles at the small girl using the word ass.
She was just about to reply when a new but familiar voice called from behind them.
“Mia! There you are. I’ve been waiting forever for you” The voice called.
“Mom!” Mia said, immediately leaving the ball and running towards her mother.
(Y/N) turned around to look at the pair and immediately, her breath caught in her throat.
“You should’ve been finished 30 minutes ago. Now look, you’ve forced one of your coaches to stay with you-” The mother started to say but stopped dead in her tracks when she looked up.
“(Y/N)?” She said, eyes widening.
“Alex?” (Y/N) replied.
Both women squealed in delight as Alex put Mia down to crash into a hug with (Y/N).
“Wow. It’s so good to see you” (Y/N) said, still hanging on tightly to the former Orlando star.
They pulled back and grinned at each other.
“How long has it been?” Alex said, smiling at her old friend. Mia looked curiously at the two adults in her midst.
“Too long, Alex” (Y/N) said with an elated look on her face.
“Wow, Mia. You were right when you said that your mom was the best in teh world” (Y/N) said, crouching down and ruffling the girl’s hair.
Mia giggled and playfully swatted (Y/N)’s hand.
“She said that?” Alex said, smiling down at her daughter.
“Yeah. But she definitely won’t kick my ass. As far as I can remember, I beat her during scrimmages in practice before” (Y/N) said, standing up and nudging Alex’s shoulder.
“Shut up” Alex replied with faux annoyance. Mia seemed to connect the dots and looked alternately at the two ladies.
“You played together?” Mia said, looking at her mother curiously.
“Yep. Won two World Cups together too” (Y/N) replied, grinning proudly at Alex.
The forward’s heart warmed at the flashback of memories with (Y/N) coming back to her.
“Too bad she had to retire before the 2023 Cup, then we could’ve won three together” Alex said smugly. (Y/N) scoffed.
“Well, my body wasn’t that strong. I’m a bit older than you remember” (Y/N) retorted playfully.
“Grandma” Alex said. (Y/N) gaped at her in disbelief.
“Ooooh burn” Mia said, laughing at the antics of her mom and friend. (Y/N) grinned at the kid.
“Feisty. Just like your mom I see” (Y/N) said.
Mia smiled and nodded her head. (Y/N) laughed and looked at Alex again.
“Wanna go get some ice cream? It’s on me. This kid killed it today” (Y/N) said. Mia perked up at the mention of ice cream and looked pleadingly at her mother.
Alex pretended to think about it but the smile that cracked her face moments after told Mia and (Y/N) she was gonna give in.
“Fine” Alex said. Mia squealed in delight and started running off the pitch.
“She’s quite something” (Y/N) commented, walking leisurely with Alex.
“She is” Alex replied shyly, suddenly conscious that she’s alone with (Y/N).
“Just like you” (Y/N) said, grinning at her former teammate. Alex playfully swats (Y/N) on the arm.
(Y/N) laughs and the pair continue walking in comfortable silence. Mia was already in the exit by the time the two adults caught up to her.
“You sure you have time to take us to ice cream?” Alex said, as the trio walked towards an ice cream parlor (Y/N) knew was near the field.
“Yeah, of course. No biggie” (Y/N) said, shrugging her shoulders.
They had arrived at the ice cream parlor not long after, got their fill and walked around the nearby park.
Mia headed off by herself in a playground in the park with a few other kids while Alex and (Y/N) kept an eye on her in a bench.
(Y/N) took a deep breath and finally asked Alex a question that’s been nagging at the back of her mind all day.
“So, how’s Servando?” (Y/N) said, taking a cautious spoonful of her vanilla ice cream.
Alex tensed up a bit at the mention of her ex-husband. She sighed but nevertheless turned to face (Y/N).
“You really haven’t been keeping in touch, no?” Alex said, smiling at her old friend. (Y/N) almost looked guilty.
“Sorry…” (Y/N) said, looking down at her half eaten ice cream.
“Don’t be. But…. he’s been gone for a while now. He didn’t want kids and when I suddenly had Mia, he didn’t want to stick around anymore” Alex said, shrugging her shoulders.
(Y/N) looked at her in disbelief and felt a feeling strongly reminding her of anger and hate bubble up inside.
“What? Why?” (Y/N) said, wondering how anyone would willingly choose to leave Alex and such a sweet kid like Mia.
“He just didn’t want us anymore. It’s fine though, I mean I guess I really didn’t want him anymore either” Alex said nonchalantly.
But (Y/N) was still fuming, taking angry spoonfuls of her ice cream. Alex chuckled at the sight of her friend.
“What are you laughing at? He’s a total dickwad!” (Y/N) said loudly, flailing her ice cream-occupied hands in the air.
“Dickwad” The pair heard Mia say. The adults whipped their head to look at the seven-year-old who was apparently already next to them.
“Nope. We don’t say that word” (Y/N) said, starting to panic at having accidentally taught a kid a swear ward.
Alex laughed at (Y/N)’s efforts to explain to Mia how she shouldn’t be saying that word.
“That’s…. that’s a really bad word and I’m really sorry I said that. Auntie (Y/N)’s going to be in trouble for that later. Don’t imitate it” (Y/N) rambled on.
Mia looked confused at the older woman’s rambling but simply nodded her head.
(Y/N) looked helplessly at Alex and mouthed ‘sorry’ but the latter just chuckled and waved her off.
“Your Auntie (Y/N) is a bad role model. Don’t be like her” Alex said playfully taking her daughter into her lap.
“Hey! I’m not that bad!” (Y/N) said defensively. Alex rolled her eyes and simply laughed.
The trio continued their day talking about soccer tactics, with Mia wanting to learn from her mother’s former teammate.
“Someday, I wanna be a World Cup champion like you two!” Mia said, skipping happily as they walked out of the park.
“I’m sure you’ll get to do that, baby girl. After all, it runs in the genes” (Y/N) said, ruffling her hair again.
“Where will you be going home to?” Alex said, continuing to walk with (Y/N) – Mia a few steps ahead of them.
“I have a loft a few blocks down on 26th street. Just moved in last month, actually” (Y/N) replied.
“Wow. So I’ll be definitely seeing more of you very soon?” Alex said, smiling.
“If you want to, yeah” (Y/N) replied, grinning back.
The trio came to an intersection where (Y/N)’s house was off to the left while Alex and Mia should head right.
“This is you right?” Alex said, pointing to the left. (Y/N) hummed in response.
“Yeah, but I’d like to walk you two home if you let me” (Y/N) said, shoving her hands into her pockets, moving around nervously.
Alex blushed at how cute and shy (Y/N) was being.
“We’d like that” Alex said as Mia nodded in approval. (Y/N) grinned and walked to the right with the pair.
Alex and (Y/N) continued catching up the rest of the way, with Alex finding out how (Y/N) has been spending her retirement.
“I’ve been pretty busy with social work still, we sometimes go to local communities and start a soccer club there. You know, just to get kids into the right kind of hobbies,” (Y/N) said. Alex nodded and was a bit impressed at how passionate (Y/N) was with what she was doing.
“I also have a small athleisure wear I manage. It’s not much but it pays the bills” (Y/N) said, chuckling.
“You’ve been pretty busy huh? Well, Mia is my whole life now. Although I do coach a university women’s soccer team” Alex said. (Y/N) beamed at the mention of the sport.
“Still can’t leave it, huh?” (Y/N) said, grinning. Alex nods.
“It’s the love of my life” Alex said. (Y/N) hums in approval.
They finally make it to Alex’s house after a few minutes and (Y/N) walks them up to the front door.
“Well, this is me. It’s been great seeing you” Alex said, smiling affectionately at (Y/N).
Mia had already opened the door and dashed inside to play with their pet dog Bob.
“Yeah… same here” (Y/N) said, leaning on the door frame as Alex stepped inside.
“I’ll see you soon?” Alex said, with a hopeful glint in her eyes. (Y/N) blushes a shade of pink and nods her head.
“Definitely” She replied. She almost, almost doesn’t notice the subtle lip bite Alex does before smiling back at her.
“Good. Well. Bye” Alex said, motioning to close the door. (Y/N) stood up straight and shoved her hands into her pockets again.
“Bye” She said. Once the door closed, (Y/N) released a breath she didn’t know she was holding in.
Who would’ve thought she would run into the girl she’s been in love with all these years?
To be continued

October 2020
October 2020 was the best month I’ve had in a while. In fact, I finally lost my virginity this month. October 31 at 11pm. Other things I did was that I
I finished Pretty Little Liars at last! I wrote down my thoughts at the end of each season.
I’ve always known something was up with Cece. I didn’t think she would die though. I was hoping that after A was revealed, she would become a better person and make amends, but that didn’t get implemented. I guess Mona filled the role of the better person. I felt really sad that Mona gave Hanna the scrapbook but she didn’t get invited to her party. She’s still left out, trying to get in.
The 5 year time jump was great. It makes sense for the girls to separate. It was cool to see Veronica Hastings for Senate.
Hanna is getting married, but the kiss with Caleb makes me think she’s going to break off the wedding and they will end up together at the end. Spencer is either going to end up with Toby or Wren. I can’t remember Melissa’s status, although she will end up with Wren or someone I wasn’t paying attention to in Season 6.
Yvonne is a great new addition. I’m sure they’ll try to pin her as A in Season 7.
I’m upset Jenna and Noel Kahn didn’t make an appearance. They were important earlier on, and I really liked to hate those characters. Jenna is the better person. I’m noticing a lot of similarities between her and Sarah Harvey. Both are handicapped because of the girls.
I think Nicole is still alive. Otherwise, she would be MIA, and if a character hasn’t been confirmed dead, there’s a good chance they’re returning in shows like these. In fact, it would be a major plot twist if she was dead at the end of the series. She’s going to come back, put a small dent in Aria and Ezra’s relationship, leave, and they continue their marriage. In fact, A probably kidnapped her in order to bring her back at the most opportune time.
Aria and Emily weren’t interesting this season. Hanna should’ve gotten fat again, since there was a 5 year time jump. It was a big part of who she was in the earlier seasons.
The scene with the moms in the basement was hilarious! I hope to see more of them, but I guess they forgot about that moment.
I watched PLL Season 7 the following week, and that was a terrific (terrible) ending! I loved Alex Drake. And I loved how Mona killed Cece. They didn’t make anything of the mothers, especially Veronica as the new Senate. I knew Hanna was going to break up with Jordan, and I knew Nicole would come back. Yvonne dies, which means she doesn’t get a happy ending. Toby and Yvonne should’ve left the series in Season 6, and maybe come back in the last episode of Season 7.
I’m more intrigued by PLL now more than ever. It was really good and I enjoyed the drama and the guessing. Also, I’m allowed to go through YouTube and watch out for clues between characters to find some instances of foreshadowing.
Two things stuck out to me as extreme this season. Hanna having to cut the appendix of a doll and having the doll bleeding was just unsettling. Also, Emily’s eggs last season came back to Ali, forcing her to have Wren and Emily’s babies. That’s just extreme. I love the sick minds of the writers. Also, the board game they had to play was good. Except it was introduced too late. I would’ve liked it if Mona came up with it and delayed her reveal by a season or two. However, even Mona liked it, which was really funny.
I think Spencer visiting Toby as the first game was supposed to open the door for Alex Drake to enter Toby’s life. It was cool of Alex to sign her texts as AD instead of A, just to change it up a little. Also, it provides a clue on the initials of the new A, since there wasn’t any other way to identify her since she looks exactly like Spencer.
Also, I hate Archer Dunhill. I just do. I’m glad he’s dead.
Now the rest of October has been interesting. My girlfriend and I have grown closer. I think its at a point where there’s no breaking up anymore. We had sex on Halloween after a nice tour looking at pumpkins. My experience was weird, but its an experience we’ll always share together, and no one else can ever change that. I realize that my penis is too small to reach a vagina. Also, she was too tight to the point where I only entered half way before coming. She says she needed to be turned on more. I don’t feel any different losing my virginity. I’m just glad it was with her. I might not have even lost my virginity. But she definitely broke her hymen. I noticed blood on the bed. It wasn’t a lot like I was expecting, but it was still cool to see. I do want to try it again, but not so soon. I’m glad to have it over with now.
Work has gotten stressful. I’m never doing anything to the point where I’m being told to take PTO. I don’t want to waste any of it. I’m using my time to study for my exam.

familiar stranger
— summary: it’s been a year since mia’s breakup, and she feels as though she’s hit the lowest point in her life, and is afraid that it’s becoming stagnant. until she has an enlightening conversation with a boy with his own dilemmas with love.
— prompt: I don't know if you still write but imagine if Mia and Alejandro met in Madrid and Mia is giving him advice for Nora
↳ also available on ao3
in a king-sized bed in an apartment which was right on one of the most vividly bustling streets in madrid lay an awfully quiet girl, cladded in her favourite hoodie. her nose was buried in yet another thick book, desperate to escape her reality by visualising a perfect fantasy in her mind with the help of the words of another.
suddenly, the words on one of the lines turned blurry, making mia place the book down on her chest and shut her eyes tightly. maybe that’s why opticians advise against reading whilst lying down, she thought miserably. opening her eyes, she then turned onto her right side, and stared out the big bay window. it was only a quarter past 7, but night had already settled in. the sky was now painted a velvety royal blue with stars embedded in it. directly down below, you could hear the screams of joy and cries of laughter distinctly, but mia had learned to tune it out. the night sky captivated her whole attention. usually, she wasn’t one to appreciate simple things like that, but alexander was a sucker for nights like this.
alex sat on the bench attached to the bay window, his eyes widening to the size of camera lenses. it was as though he was capturing mental images of the scenery before him. he then turned to face mia. “have you ever seen anything like this?” he asked excitedly, pure admiration clear in his hazel-brown eyes. mia chuckled at his childlike fascination. “i think i have. i mean, i think nights work in every part of the world, no?” she teased, making him roll his eyes, but a smile was etched on his face. she extended her arms out and pouted, making him get up from his position and join her on the bed. holding her in his arms, he placed his chin on her head, essentially coddling her. “yeah, but it’s just… different here. a good different.” he whispered, running his fingers through her blonde hair. “i like it here. i like being here with you, mia winter.”
mia hadn’t realised a teardrop had escaped and streamed down her chin, hitting the bed sheet. it was little things like this that made her think of the one who got away. it had been almost a year since she last saw him, since their last conversation. when she wasn’t busy with work or studies, she found herself reminiscing in the past, and wondering what they could’ve been if they hadn’t parted ways. if she hadn’t forced a break onto them. sometimes, she found herself staring at his contact name on whatsapp, but she just never found the right words to say to him.
wiping her tears away, mia looked over to her nightstand, where her digital clock and a photograph of her and alex stood. there was something that restrained her from putting it away. she read the time off of the clock. it was a little over 8. pushing her book away, she jolted up and away from the bed, and made her way over to her wardrobe to change out of her sweatpants. she decided that instead of sulking around in her apartment, which had become more of a comfort cocoon than a living space, she’d go for a walk to clear her headspace. to free herself from her ‘what-if’ thoughts, even if it was for a little while. grabbing her essentials, her coat and her blue beanie, she stepped out of the apartment.
the first thing she was greeted by when she exited her apartment complex was a bunch of teenagers, either drunk or high from adrenaline or other stuff, running in her direction whilst yelling at the top of their lungs. a girl with purple streaks in her hair accidentally bumped into mia, and she apologised profusely, but mia merely shook it off with a smile, telling her that it was quite alright. it was refreshing seeing teenagers being so carefree. in this age, they’ve become so serious with themselves and engrossed in having a picture-perfect image on social media to the point where mia wondered if they knew what plain old fun was.
after almost colliding into more people, she finally made it to the curb and off of her street. plugging in her earphones, instead of the outside noise, mia’s ears were greeted by lewis capaldi’s vocals. she sighed, as she walked further and further down the street. how come i'm the only one who ever seems to get in my way? lately, i've been fucking up a good thing any chance i can get… somebody to lean on, somebody to hold, it's just another to lead out before i let go…
maybe i’m better off on my own.
mia had completely tuned the world out, to the point where she was absolutely startled when she once more crashed into a tall and lanky figure. “oh, lo siento.” she muttered, and thought it was the end of that, till the other person began speaking. “hey, i know you! mia, right?”
mia furrowed her eyebrows. she wasn’t expecting a stranger to know her name. this time, she took a good look at the boy, and surprise was replaced with familiarity. it was the son of the man who owned her apartment complex. they lived in a huge house right opposite the complex. mia was introduced to him once by the receptionist of the building, when he had come over to see his father whose office was within the building. she took out the earphones from her ears. “yeah,” she confirmed, “and it’s… alejandro, right?”
alejandro beamed. “yup!” as far as mia could remember, the boy was only a year younger than her, but his baby features made him look much younger than he actually was. mia noticed that he was always cladded in black. last time she met him, he radiated flirtiness, and had a smirk carved on his lips. but this time, he seemed only friendly, and the smirk was now replaced with a warm smile.
“you okay?” he asked, forcing mia out of her train of thought. she slowly nodded. “yeah, sorry. just zoned out a bit.” she replied sheepishly. “you look like you’re dressed to impress. going to that party everyone seems to be running off to tonight?” she asked. alejandro nodded. “yeah. it’s one of our classmate’s…” he scratched his head, trying to recall a word, “iftar party. yeah, iftar.” he paused, before unsurely asking, “that’s the word, right? the meals muslims have after breaking fast?”
mia nodded in confirmation. “yeah! aw, that’s nice.” she remembered amira and her family inviting her and their other friends to break fast with them. there was a variety of food on the table, and she most definitely left the house full to the brim. “yeah,” alejandro agreed, “she’s really cool too.” he opened his mouth once more as though he wanted to add on, but decided against it. however, mia felt that she had an idea of what he was going to say. “but you have… other reasons in mind for going to this party.” she guessed, and realised that she was right when the boy’s ears tinged pink. she couldn’t help but let a smile slip onto her face. “and does this… reason have a name? does she know your intentions?”
alejandro let out a sigh in defeat. “nora.” he mumbled, “and yes. wait, well, i don’t really know.” he confessed, making one of mia’s eyebrows shoot up in interest. “i mean, i did confess my feelings for her in front of her friends! isn’t that clear enough?”
mia folded her arms. “well, have you done anything that’s made her mistrust you?” alejandro remained silent, his eyes suddenly downcast. mia seized the boy up once again. “you strike me as a ladies’ man.” she bluntly stated, but it didn’t faze alejandro.
it took him another couple of minutes to answer her question. “i broke her friend’s heart.” he simply stated. but that sufficed for mia. suddenly, a strong feeling of familiarity hit mia square in the chest.
alejandro didn’t notice mia’s slight change in attitude, and continued blabbering. “she thinks i just want her for sex, but it’s not that! she’s different, and i truly want her. hell, i don’t think i’ve ever wanted someone, or longed for them like this. she just… i feel like she gets me.” his voice faltered. “and deep down inside, i know that she’s the one. we have a connection. and i damn right know that she feels it, too. but she’s…”
“-too scared.” mia continued for him. “she thinks that it’s just a game. that once she gives herself to you completely, you’re going to disappear.” alejandro’s eyebrows furrowed, before understanding struck him. “that… that makes sense.” he muttered. mia’s heart ached for him. “i haven’t been a good person, mia. i’ve… i’ve made mistakes. i lashed out on her friend once, as if my actions didn’t hurt her enough.” hesitantly, he looked over at mia. “do you think i’m a bad person now?”
mia stayed silent for a couple of minutes, and just stared at the boy intently. alejandro was starting to not only look but feel like someone else she once knew. she could easily pick out the incessant sadness that gleamed in his sharp brown eyes. everyone may not notice it, but she wasn’t everyone. “no.” she stated firmly. “i don’t think you’re a bad person at all, alejandro.” she carefully picked out her following words. “i think you’re just… misguided. things not good at home?”
a mixture of hurt and anger flashed through his eyes. “they’ve never been good.” he muttered, his eyes fixed back onto the ground, avoiding mia’s stare. but she could easily read his thoughts. she’d been there, after all. and so had alex. wondering what it would’ve been like if they didn’t have broken families. if their relationships hadn’t been so shattered to the point where they felt the need to act out to get their parents’ attention.
“don’t let your past define who you are in the present, and in the future.” mia suddenly broke the silence, making alejandro look up. “because that isn’t who you are, alejandro. no matter what people say.” she placed a hand on his shoulder. “you are better than that. and you better start believing it. i may not know you that well, but i know that you are more than the person you portray yourself to be. don’t ever start believing that this persona you’ve created is you. and if nora can’t see past that, then i don’t think that she deserves you.”
alejandro let a small smile fall on his lips. “i think it’s that i don’t deserve her.” he weakly chuckled. mia hit him lightly on the chest. “don’t undermine your self worth.” she scolded lightly. “after all, we accept the love we think we-”
alejandro groaned. “please, don’t ever use that cursed quote ever again. think i’ve heard enough of it to last an entire lifetime.” he cringed, making mia laugh. the duo drifted into a comfortable silence, and cars zooming past was now the only sound audible. “and nora? what do i do about her? how can i show her that i’m sincere?” alejandro asked.
“talk to her.” mia stressed on the former word. “i know it sounds trivial, but communication really is key.” her voice began quivering slightly. “she sounds like someone who has just as many walls up as you do. break that down. establish that connection you feel. make her feel safe, that she can trust you 100%. if you really want this relationship, alejandro, fight for it. and relationships will always have their ups and downs. you have to make sure you’re all in, that you’re willing to make sacrifices for each other.”
alejandro said nothing. he let mia’s words sink in, before slowly nodding. “you’re right. i’d never seen it like that before.” he admitted. “thank you, mia. i don’t think i’ve ever had a conversation like this before with anyone really.”
mia smiled, shrugging. “it’s no biggie. i’m known to offer perspective.” she joked, making alejandro chuckle. he then looked down onto his watch. “fuck, i should probably get going. i wanted to make a fashionably late appearance, but i think it’s a little too late for that now.” he cackled at his own time pun, making mia roll her eyes. “yeah, you better get going.” she agreed. “hey, you should come with! you’d fit in nice with the rest of us.” he then said, before giving the girl one look over and scrunching up his nose. “well, maybe we should get you changed out of that.” he pointed at her hoodie. “why do you always have it on anyway? it’s not even that cold yet.”
mia looked down at the white oversized hoodie, and shrugged, despite knowing her answer perfectly. there were different reasons. maybe it was because it replaced the absence of warmth she felt constantly, or maybe it was a desperate attempt at filling the hole in her heart. the missing puzzle piece.
they were different reasons, but they essentially led to the same person.
“maybe next time.” she said, and without warning, alejandro wrapped his arms around her, pulling her into a hug. she smiled, and patted his back. she watched him run down the street. turning his upper body towards her direction, he yelled, “see you soon, mia!” she grinned and waved back, before putting her earphones back in, and continued her walk down the opposite path.
later that night, mia slipped back into the comfort of her bed. taking the photo frame off of her nightstand, she grasped it tightly. her fingers brushed over alex’s face. she thought back to her conversation with alejandro. if you really want this relationship, then fight for it. a couple of months back, she believed that there was nothing to fight for anymore. that it was all over. but she was wrong. in reality, you never lose that spirit if your heart constantly longs for them.
a different tune began to play in her head, as she picked up her phone, and went onto whatsapp, and scrolled down to find a certain chat with a man named axel in her phone. all the streetlights, illuminate what home used to feel like, and when i get to thinking, can't sleep at night… no, i don't feel right…
taking a deep breath, mia pressed onto the voice message button. “hey.” she started off softly. “i’ve… i’ve been doing a lot of thinking.” suddenly, all the words that she couldn’t find before came flowing in easily. “i know what i said to you that night. about you, me, us. the more time i’ve spent apart from you, the more i realised how untrue my words were.” i wish i'd have stayed, 'cause love can find a way to make your feet run heavy, make your heart run steady, then it breaks, so i'm praying that you're feeling the same...
she swallowed harshly, before continuing. “i was afraid of falling deeper for you. that i’d come to the point where i wouldn’t be able to breathe without you. but it’s too late. i’ve already reached that point, alexander. the only difference is that i’m not afraid of that anymore. because i know i can trust you 100% to catch me no matter the consequences. there’s no one i want more than you. want doesn’t even cover it. there’s no one i need more than you. i always thought that i’d have to brave the world on my own for the rest of my life, but i know that’s not true anymore. our relationship has never been fairytale perfect, but it’s ours. if you don’t want this anymore, i understand. but know this.” she let her voice break. “if you gave me a second chance, i promise i would make it worth it. i love you, alexander hardenberg.” so tell me honey, oh, when you're just a step away from falling apart, do you ever feel like going back to the start?
mia released the button, and let the message be sent. her heart thumped against her chest as she watched the double ticks turn blue within the matter of minutes. her pulse throbbed against her ears as she watched alex’s ‘online’ status turn to ‘recording…’
he sent back a voice message that was much shorter than hers. her heart suddenly deflated, as her finger hovered over the play button. he must’ve moved on already, her conscience whispered miserably to her. of course he has. any girl would drop dead to be with him. he is alexander hardenberg, after all.
taking a sharp breath, she played the message.
“god, you don’t know how happy i am to hear you. to hear your words and your voice. i fucking missed you, mia. and there’s nobody else in the world that i want-need more than you. nobody can ever be you. i love you so damn much, mia winter. i’ll see you soon, angel.”
mia bursted into joyful tears, laughing and sobbing at the same time. that was the first time in a whole year where she’s actually felt full again. the crack in her heart was healing once more.
she may never be able to be sure of things in life, but one thing would always be certain. it’s alexander. it’ll always be alexander.
it’ll always be mia and alexander.
“if we can pick it up, just tell me where and when,
we'll go back to the start again.”

Thunder and Lightning
Thunder and Lightning
Kalex Week Day 1: General AU
Sunday, 11/17
I own nothing.
Words: 2,462
----------
Alex twitched and groaned, trying to turn over so she was no longer lying on whatever was poking her in the back.
“Alex! Don’t move, okay?” That was Kara. Why was Kara sad? Or scared? Worried? “Caitlin! J’onn! Lena! She’s waking up!” Why was she calling for the others? Why were the others even here?
“Hey, hey, it’s okay.” Alex felt Kara’s hand brushing back hair from her face.
That didn’t make any sense. She had just shorn her hair on that side. Her hair tended to grow quickly, but not that quick. Tiredly (why was she so tired?), she blinked open her eyes. The lighting was dim, most of the glow coming from Kara’s sunbed in the corner.
They were at the DEO.
Why were they at the DEO? How were they at the DEO? She had been in Central City for a conference. She and Lena were both going to be speaking at it, Lena more than her. Alex had gone ahead of them because someone had tried to set up an assassination attempt (really, at this point, people should know better). Kara and Lena were waiting for Alex’s ‘all clear’ before arriving. The pair had been in Star City visiting Oliver and Felicity, oohing over little Mia.
Alex knew this, because both of them had been sending her texts containing pictures of the little girl in various outfits. This including miniature versions of several onesies modeled after hero costumes, made mostly by Winn in order for them to be accurate.
“Kara?” She managed to croak out, reaching for her. What was going on?
“It’s okay Alex, you’re going to be alright zhao.” Kara turned to see who hand entered.
Caitlin and Lena were tied, Lena allowing the other woman to enter first to check Alex’s vitals. She made her way to Kara’s side, wrapping one arm around the blonde’s waist and laying a hand over the pair tangled together on the edge of the bed.
“You gave us both a scare Alex,” Lena told her. “Don’t ever do this again.”
Alex coughed. “What even happened?” Kara broke away to get her some water. She helped her sip it while Caitlin finished what she was doing.
Caitlin frowned. “What’s the last thing you remember?”
“I was in Central City for the conference,” Alex began, feeling better now that her mouth wasn’t so dry and the tiredness was fading. “I’d just sent Vas back with the wannabe assassin and my report.” She frowned, trying to remember. “I was…phone. I was on my phone looking at the new pictures you two,” she sent a stern look at her lover and their shared best friend, “had just sent me. You really dressed Mia in a miniature DEO uniform? How on any Earth did Oliver let you do that? Where did you even get it?”
Lena snickered. “Winn and Cisco both missed their calling in Fashion. And Felicity was the one to convince, but after the mini-Green Arrow outfit she was sold.” Considering the size of the smile on Oliver’s face in the picture of the two of them in the matching outfits, Felicity had been hard pressed to deny the other outfits.
“…Do I even want to know?” Alex looked at Caitlin. The woman was shaking her head.
“Those pictures are never going to see the light of day outside of this group,” she assured her patient. “Their antics aside, what else do you remember?”
That was a loaded question that Alex wasn’t certain she knew the answer to.
“I’m not sure,” Alex admitted slowly. “I don’t…what happened?”
“There was a second particle accelerator explosion at the hotel,” Caitlin explained. “A much smaller one, but it caused a lot of damage to the hotel and surrounding area. Barry’s been chasing down new metas since then, as well as the pair of scientists who are responsible.”
“They did it on purpose, although we’re not entirely sure as to why.” Lena took up the explanation. “I did discover that my brother was funding them from prison,” her smile was vicious, “that stream of revenue has now been stopped.”
“Which of us was the target?” Alex asked, shifting so the ties on her gown were no longer digging into her.
“Any of us, all of us,” Lena shrugged. Her brother wanted her dead. He wanted her two protectors dead almost as badly as he did her. He had proven several times over that he didn’t care about collateral damage. “Does it really matter at this point?”
“It doesn’t,” Kara asserted. “All that matters is that it didn’t work. Alex is fine, right?”
“Well…” Caitlin hesitated. It was highly unnerving to have all three of them staring at her. “We’ll need to run a few tests, but-”
“I’m a meta,” Alex cut her off. “Just how long have I been unconscious?” The longer she was awake, the better she was feeling. She was also starving.
“Four months,” Lena answered when it appeared the other two weren’t going to say anything. Kara looked distressed just thinking about it. There had been a few moments where they had honestly believed Alex would never awaken.
“Four…four months?” Alex stared at her. “No wonder I’m hungry.”
Kara giggled, taking that statement as the okay to do as she had wanted since carrying Alex out of the wreckage. She hugged her lover to her tightly, heedless of the tubes and wires. Alex winched, but returned the embrace.
“Great, now there’s going to be two bottomless pits.” Lena teased good-naturedly.
“You should be alright, but start with simple things.” Caitlin warned her. She disconnected the machines that were no longer needed. She had been around enough meta-humans and super-powered people to know the signs.
“Right, any ideas what my power might be?” Alex had read over enough of the reports from Starr Labs to know that different powers had different markers, although some were similar. A few were a little hard to determine, such as the mental based powers. Alex didn’t feel all that different.
“Not yet,” Caitlin replied. “We’ve been more concerned over the other injuries you sustained.”
“Which are all healed,” Kara said. “The head injury was the worst,” her lip wobbled as she held back tears, “and your heart stopped twice during surgery when they had to go in and repair some internal damage and remove the shrapnel from your back.” She had needed to keep reminding herself that Alex was in one piece. Her human was still alive and breathing.
Lena motioned for Caitlin to follow her out the door so they could leave the two alone. Kara didn’t care if they were there or not, but Alex would. The stubborn woman refused to remove herself from the impression that she had to be strong in front of everyone all the time. Lena had the same tendency, so she couldn’t exactly fault her friend for it. They would have it out later. Right now, Kara needed her more.
Kara had the decency to wait until the others were out of the room before climbing into bed with her lover. Alex shifted to the side so there was more room, but she needn’t have bothered. Kara picked her up so she was in her lap, curled into her chest.
“I was so scared Alex.” She whispered. She couldn’t even ask Alex not to do this again because it wasn’t anything they could control. Neither of them could give up this life, not when what they did was something that felt like what they were meant to do.
“I know,” Alex understood that kind of fear all too well every single time Kara ended up beneath the sun lamps for more than minor injuries. “I know, and I’m sorry.”
“No, Alex, you don’t have anything to apologize for.” Kara nuzzled her face against Alex’s hair. “Lena’s already ordering food, and then I’ll go get your favorite.”
“The food truck in Chicago?” Alex sighed, already imagining dripping cheese and perfectly grilled ham between toasted bread and topped with sautéed onions and peppers.
“Of course,” Kara reluctantly let her go. “Wanna shower?”
“Are you saying I stink?” Alex laughed as Kara backtracked and babbled before frowning at her. Kara stopped after a moment, pouting. “Come on, let me shower before the food gets here. I’d like to be in some real clothes.”
“Right!” Alex squealed as Kara levitated off the bed to bring them to a standing position. Alex remained ensconced in her arms, despite the protest that she could walk.
Kara walked them to the small bathroom attached to the room. The shower stall was tiny, big enough for only a single occupant on purpose. Even so, Kara remained in the room as Alex showed.
Alex blinked as time seemed to slow for a brief moment, seeing each individual drop of water as it fell before returning to normal. Blinking again, she reached to steady herself against the wall. Perhaps she wasn’t as well as she felt.
“Alex?” Kara sounded strange, word drawn out as if she were speaking incredibly slowly.
“Kara?” Alex reached out, trying to find the blonde. “Kara, I think-”
“Alex!”
Alex stumbled to a stop before striking the wall. She was completely dry, despite the fact that the shower was still running and she had just stepped out of it. She was shaking.
What the hell?
“Hey, I got you,” Kara wrapped a towel around her, not really knowing what else to do. “I guess we know what your power is now.”
“Kara, what just happened?” She hated when her body did things she didn’t want it to. She had trained hard to be as in control of it as humanly possible.
“You’re a speedster.”
------------
Much, much later that night they were in their apartment. It hadn’t changed much in the four months she had been in the Medbay.
It was comforting, that bit of familiarity.
She had lost four months of her life. Now she had super-speed.
It was far from a fair tradeoff. She would much rather have those four months back.
She had missed Kara’s birthday. Lena’s Birthday. Her and Kara’s second anniversary.
Alex had been planning to propose then.
What the hell was she meant to so with super-speed?
Barry had already offered to help her learn to use her powers. Alex had already agreed to it, although she would be on the watch for any tricks. She had heard about how Oliver had ‘helped’ when Barry had first gained his speed, just as she had heard how Barry had gotten revenge after another meta had temporarily switched Barry’s speed with Oliver’s talent with a bow.
Not that Kara would allow any such thing to happen. In fact, Kara was as adamant about being a part of Alex’s training as Alex had been about Kara’s in the first place.
“You’re over thinking this,” Kara muttered softly. “You’re alive. You’re faster than me now.” She giggled. “And you can’t tease me anymore about my food intake!”
Alex groaned. “Remind me to talk to J’onn about a food stipend, else we’ll need to live at the DEO.” She had matched Kara in sheer amount of food eaten for the first time since the alien had come to live with the Danvers.
“Lena already thought of it,” Kara said. “We have the best best friend, especially when she gets to thwart her mother.”
“…dare I ask what the two of you have gotten up to?”
“Well…” Kara buried her face into Alex’s neck for a moment.
“Oh god…what did you two do?” Alex fought her grin. There was a reason they worked as a trio, elsewise the one left out tended to have to get the pair out of a mess.
“I mean…crank calls, a few bashed up bases, some re-stolen funds donated to charities that needed it, a few trick programs that’ll send their servers crashing at different points…not much.”
Alex was shaking in laughter. “You two crank called…and J’onn let you get away with it?”
“Well…I mean…” Kara giggled. “Some of the others helped. J’onn may have made a few suggestions.”
“No way!” Alex denied.
“Okay, he may also have given all of those involved a very stern lecture about not messing around like unscrupulous teenagers.” Kara admitted.  “Lena quoted something from Doctor Who back at him.”
That sounded more like the man who had become the adopted father of their rag-tag group. It was very much something Lena would do in response to being lectured. Alex would bet she might even know which quote it was.
She turned over so she could wrap her arms around Kara. “Winn isn’t allowed to design my suit. I’ve seen some of what he wanted to dress you in, remember?”
Kara giggled. “Yes, I do. Breakfast says Lena already has something by tomorrow.”
Alex thought about it. “Pancakes if you’re right, French toast if you aren’t.”
“Deal,” Kara agreed, “now sleep.”
--------------------
Kara had not been wrong. Lena did have something ready for Alex.
“Oh, Alex it’s perfect!” Kara danced around her, taking it in.
It was very much like Barry’s suit, built to withstand the extreme speeds Alex would be running at. It was mainly blue, a shade darker than Kara’s own suit. Where Barry’s suit had gold, the same red as Kara’s cape traced seams and edges in contrast to the blue. On the left shoulder, like a badge of honor, rested the El crest. The emblem on Alex’s chest was a thin, ragged lighting bot split into tree prongs in red.
“How does it feel?” Lena eyed her work critically, trying to find any flaws.
“Good, comfortable,” Alex fidgeted. “Tighter than what I’m used to.” She spun around. “No cape?”
“If you could fly, I would have added a cape.” Lena typed something into her tablet. “It’s tight because loose fabric would create drag.”
“She’s right,” Kara nodded. “Why do you think I drop the cape if I have to use my speed on the ground? It’s great in the air, not so much for running.”
Alex nodded. It made sense. Most of the heroes they knew who had capes did very little (if any) ground maneuvering. “Ok, now what?”
“Now you need a new codename,” Lena looked up, smirk firmly in place. “I figured you would rather come up with one yourself before Cat Grant gives you one.”
Alex eyed her warily. “Why can’t I just keep Agent? We can just add speed or something to it.”
“Agent Speed,” Kara shook her head. “Nope. That’s almost as bad as The Blur.”
“I was thinking Lightning,” Lena announced. She nodded to the scorch mark on the wall. “Fitting, since you mastered that particular trick so quickly.”
Alex looked down at her gloved hands. “Lightning…I like it.”

Fighting Spirit Unleashed 2019 Night 1 - 9/27/2019; Rush, Dragon Lee Fired By CMLL, How This May Affect NJPW; Where Are Kawato & Oka?; Tonight’s NJPW on AXS: Double Header
Tumblr media
The three night East Coast tour Fighting Spirit Unleashed began last night. There was a title match on that show, and we begin to say goodbye to Tiger Hattori.
Fighting Spirit Unleashed 2019 - 9/27/2019, Lowell Memorial Auditorium, Lowell, MA
Karl Fredericks d. Alex Coughlin (Elevated Half-Crab, 8:47)
Lance Archer [SZKG] d. Ren Narita (EBD Claw, 7:23)
Juice Robinson & Mikey Nicholls [CHAOS] d. TJP [FREE] & Clark Connors (NIcholls > Connors, Mikeybomb, 8:04)
Chase Owens & Jado [Bullet Club] d. Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson [FREE] (Owens > Morton, Package Driver, 9:10)
Tomohiro Ishii [CHAOS] & Amazing Red [FREE] d. Shingo Takagi & BUSHI [Los Ingobernables] (Ishii > BUSHI, Vertical Drop Brainbuster, 8:48)
Hirooki Goto, YOSHI-HASHI & Rocky Romero [CHAOS] d. Jay White, KENTA & Gedo [Bullet Club] (YOSHI-HASHI > Gedo, Butterfly Lock, 12:28)
IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Championship: Tama Tonga & Tanga Loa [Bullet Club] © d. SHO & YOH [CHAOS] (Tonga > YOH, Gunstun, 16:43) - GOD succeed their 7th defense
Kazuchika Okada [CHAOS], Kota Ibushi & Hiroshi Tanahashi d. SANADA, EVIL & Tetsuya Naito [Los Ingobernables] (Tanahashi > Naito, Ground Cobra Twist, 20:26)
Naito doing the job here seems a bit shit but Naito doesn’t have a title match to look like a contender for coming up either. Guerrillas of Destiny continue to hang on to the titles and let’s face it will do so until WK14 where they will be beaten by the eventual World Tag League winners. The tag division is trash and GOD are the face of it now. The match may end up on NJPWWorld on tape delay eventually. Chase Owens pins his trainer Ricky Morton, and the Rock’n’Roll Express lose their NJPW debut match. His partner in the match, Jado is 51 years old today.
Tumblr media
In the wee hours of the night, something rather major happened behind the scenes in CMLL.
Firstly, Rush defeated Matt Taven at Ring of Honor’s Death Before Dishonor PPV to become the first-ever Mexican ROH World Champion, with his brother Dragon Lee and father La Bestia del Ring (and son, above) in attendance. Rumors had been flying for weeks about Dragon Lee’s status in home promotion CMLL, stemming from Dragon Lee disobeying a directive from CMLL to not work Pro Wrestling Guerrilla’s Battle of Los Angeles last weekend (Barbaro Cavernario was also booked for BOLA, but did withdraw his participation under that same directive; the reason given, is CMLL is once again considering both Pentagon Jr./Penta el 0M and Rey Fenix as AAA wrestlers once more so they are forbidding wrestlers from working with them). From this, Dragon Lee was pulled from CMLL’s 86th Aniversario, which also ran last night.
Within the hour of Rush winning the ROH title, Rush posted a video on his Twitter announcing both he and La Bestia del Ring were now independent wrestlers, and indeed both KAOZ Lucha and The Crash have announced Rush as working there soon as El Toro Blanco, as CMLL own the Rush trademark. Not long after THAT, CMLL tweeted out that they have fired both Rush and Dragon Lee. Dragon Lee posted on Facebook he was devastated by this, and indeed this really seems to be retaliatory. There are reports he may be working ROH’s TV taping tonight. Dragon Lee was also CMLL’s Welterweight champion at the time of his release.
I will stop right here and say that friend of the show/blog TheCubsFan posted a podcast with Rob Viper late last night summarizing this situation and you should listen to it; it’s only 40 minutes, but packed with information.
But it should go without saying that both Rush and Dragon Lee were pretty integrated in their way with New Japan as well. Dragon Lee especially has been pretty popular in NJPW, and of course his story is very well tied in to that of Hiromu Takahashi, and indeed Hiromu tweeted at Dragon Lee this morning. There are reports he was due to be in the upcoming Super Junior Tag League, presumably paired with another CMLL wrestler. but who knows if that can or will happen now. It’s become very murky politically. NJPW could outright sign Dragon Lee (or whatever he calls himself now -- there are reports of Toro Rojo being a possibility) if all parties agree, but he could also go to WWE, or somewhere else.
It all kinda depends on how strong the relationship between NJPW and CMLL is at this point and whether NJPW values CMLL or Dragon Lee more. There have been signs of strain between NJPW and its partners, ROH and CMLL; the ROH relationship has been the more obviously strained, especially since G1 Supercard at MSG, where ROH’s contributions were, frankly, absolute shite. However, other than Fantasticamania (which is usually a great payday for the visiting luchadors) and appearances in Best of the Super Juniors and Super J-Cup, there doesn’t seem to be much going on with the CMLL relationship right now. The last couple of excursions ended suddenly and without notice, as when Sho Tanaka & Yohei Komatsu were Raijin & Fujin and then... weren’t (Hirai Kawato, I discuss below). Shota Umino and Ren Narita both are on excursion now, but neither went to CMLL, where before it was assured at least one would. Jushin Thunder Liger appeared at Arena Mexico this summer for a retirement show, but Liger is able to make his own bookings without NJPW’s involvement (which is how Liger was able to wrestle Tyler Breeze at the 2015 NXT Takeover in Brooklyn). Consider that around this time last year, Kazuchika Okada, Tetsuya Naito, EVIL & BUSHI all made appearances in Arena Mexico. This year, there were no NJPW wrestlers at the CMLL Grand Prix, where usually there is at least one or two, even if it were the likes of Michael Elgin, Satoshi Kojima, or even David Finlay. As NJPW broaden their global profile on their own, there seems to be a gradual withdrawal from their partners. As I said, which do NJPW value more, a continued partnership with CMLL, or Dragon Lee on their roster?
Then there’s the other elephant in the room: the status of Los Ingobernables. Straight up, CMLL own the trademark, and always have. There’s a CMLL trademark on LIJ shirts. The unit started in CMLL, between Rush, La Sombra and La Mascara. La Sombra is now Andrade Cien Almas in WWE, and the other two have been fired for various reasons. Los Ingobernables as a functional thing in CMLL is now dead, unless they want to do the typical lucha promotion business where they just shellac other wrestlers onto a popular gimmick after the original wrestler(s) behind said gimmick leave - indeed, it’s how Rush & Dragon Lee’s brother became the second Mistico. (His status is unknown, assumed not leaving, but who knows. If he does, Caristico can reassume the Mistico identity, which would make the Arena Mexico crowd happy.) There is a possibility that CMLL could keep Los Ingobernables alive with Terrible and some others, but I can guess how well that’s going to go over.
Los Ingobernables de Japon has to end, at some point. It’s just inevitable. Rush is still in ROH until at least 2020, so there is a possibility that Naito and the boys will reunite with Rush (although the last few times Rush and LIJ members were on the same ROH cards, they deliberately kept them apart, even at meet & greets). If the NJPW and CMLL relationship is starting to disintegrate, a very large part of NJPW’s current identity, and merch money, will be going away soon. Rush being shown the door by itself doesn’t mean LIJ is over just yet. It is not the first time the NJPW branch of a famous stable outlasted its home company. But this could be the harbinger of that unit coming to an end, until LIJ goes into its TEAM2000 phase.
Long story short, shit is wild, and complicated, and political, and who knows what ripples this pebble in the river will produce.
Tumblr media
Above, I mentioned Hirai Kawato and his excursion in CMLL as Kawato San. I’ve been teasing a piece for weeks, and, well, here it is.
Hirai Kawato has not worked a match since 7/28/2019, a Sunday night show at Arena Mexico, teaming with Dark Magic & Misterioso Jr. in a losing effort v. Rey Cometa, Flyer & Dulce Gardenia. Prior to that, on 6/30/2019, Kawato had bested Audaz to win the CMLL World Super Lightweight title vacated by (ironically) Dragon Lee. Since then... nothing.
Apparently, according to TheCubsFan (him again), Kawato got seriously ill and had to go back to Japan for recovery. There’s been no official word about his status at all, including whether or not he will return to Mexico. It’s a real shame, as his excursion looked to finally be working, evidenced by getting a title, and it looked like they might begin an actual program with Audaz, but such is not to be right now. I hope he is recovering OK, no matter what happens next for him, as it sounded serious enough for him to go home.
Tomoyuki Oka is another one who’s been MIA. Last seen in RevPro UK under the gimmick of Dominator Great O-Kharn, Oka has not wrestled a match since his appearance as the only Japanese talent at the ill-fated New Beginning USA shows, beating Harlem Bravado on 2/2/2019 in Nashville. There is even less info about his whereabouts - his last tweet was on 3/4/2019, advertising the NBUSA shows on NJPWWorld. (FWIW, Kawato’s last tweet was on 7/26, and last Instagram post was on 7/3.)
I wish I had more, but I simply don’t; I don’t have sources or anything like that. But it’s a little disconcerting when not one but two Young Lions have gone missing in action whilst away. Makes you wonder what the future holds for Shooter and Ren.
(Whilst we’re here - David Finlay is still recovering from injury and surgery. He is still pretty active on social media.)
Tumblr media
Ideally I should’ve posted this earlier but there were no posts and we’re here now. After taking last week off, NJPW on AXS returns tonight with a double header of episodes, all taking place from various Destruction shows from a couple of weeks ago. Advertised matches are:
9pm EDT / 8pm CDT - RevPro Undisputed British Heavyweight Championship: Hiroshi Tanahashi (c) v. Zack Sabre Jr., Destruction in Beppu, Oita Beppu B-Con Plaza, 9/15/2019 10pm EDT / 9pm CDT - Tokyo Dome IWGP Heavyweight Challenge Rights: Kota Ibushi v. KENTA, Destruction in Kagoshima, Kagoshima Arena, 9/16/2019
There will be other matches as these alone are not enough to fill an hour of TV each. It’s also preceded by an all-new WOW Women of Wrestling. Incidentally, it looks like AXS’s new owners Anthem are moving their own wrestling company, Impact, to Tuesdays later this month, so there is some assurance of them not actively messing with NJPW, at least, not yet.
Of course, you are spoiled for choice of watching NJPW tonight, as tonight’s FIghting Spirit Unleashed show from the Hammerstein Ballroom in NYC is live on NJPWWorld. Show starts at 7pm EDT. Once again we have a title match tonight, too, although... let’s face it, we know who’s winning this.

Druck season 2, episode 6 reaction
I’m slightly behind on the Druck reactions, though not for lack of interest, just lack of energy. Going to try to catch up because do I ever have feelings about this season.
Episode 6
Clip 1 - Good morning starshine
We see the flat’s bathroom and is that shit on the toilet seat????? Or barf???? Whyyyyy Druck whyyyyyyy.
Mia comes into the bathroom, glowing, happy, but the peaceful moment is interrupted by Hans lurking in the tub telling her not to open the toilet seat. He says he’ll clean it up in the moment, but he does not seem to be well, to say the least.
Okay, it’s puke, which is like … marginally better than poop.
Hans is clearly hungover and has vomit around his mouth. And over the side of the tub. Thanks again, Druck. They’re really just going for the disgusting things in the flat’s bathroom this season, aren’t they? If Mia moves out and Matteo moves in, you know they’re all doomed.
Mia happily says she’ll clean it up, perky as a blonde Snow White, and Hans immediately recognizes the difference between Mia yelling at him to wipe up urine off the toilet seat versus this morning angel volunteering to clean up someone else’s vomit as if she were offering to taste-test cupcakes.
Of course it’s because Mia is high off last night’s kiss. She’s gonna clean up puke, make Hans some tea, and offer encouragement as he drags himself out of the tub. Love keeps lifting her higher and higher.
Alexander texts her good morning. Mia teases him about not recognizing the number or knowing who he is, he teases her back about thinking it was Sara’s number, they exchange pleasantries. It’s an adorable interaction. Mia is on cloud 9. So you know, let’s see how long that lasts!
Clip 2 - Alexander the actor
LMAO, we get a stalker shot of Mia coming out of her place to her bike in the morning, and of course it’s a car that drives up to her, and of course it’s Alex’s car.
They have some banter about his Porsche and he suggests they carpool for the sake of the environment, he teases her for being a hipster, it’s cute. He jokes about having kids and Mia is like, later? I wanted to start right away. To which he says he disapproves of condoms anyway, and like, don’t ruin this banter, dude. Don’t remind me of your past selfishness in not wanting to use condoms with other girls. Or maybe it’s better that I don’t forget about it.
Alex mimes zipping his lips and throwing away the key to indicate that they’ll be discreet at school. Some dude honks at Alex for blocking the way with his car, calling him names. And Alex takes the time to be extra as fuck and show off the skills from his improv classes and gets out of the car and pretends to pick up the invisible key he threw away. He doesn’t drive away until he’s gotten the key and unzipped his lips. JFC. Why is that so charming? I completely get why Mia has feelings for him despite her brain telling her it’s a bad idea, despite knowing of some awful things he’s done. No offense to any William fans, but he seemed like the kind of guy who, if you went to dinner with him, you’d have a lot of awkward silences and end up faking an emergency text message. I would totally go to dinner with Alexander and watch him do these impromptu performances.
Clip 3 - Listen to Sam FFS
Mia and Hanna are doing homework. Hanna isn’t into it. Mia is also not into it, for different reasons.
Hanna tells Mia that Jonas tried to kiss her on Friday, but Mia is so distracted looking at Kiki’s throwback picture of the girls at the cabin for NYE that she doesn’t even notice. Hanna has to text Mia when she’s sitting right next to her to get her attention, heh.
Mia wants to know why Hanna didn’t tell her and it’s because Mia has been gone and distant lately. Mia looks pained and she leans into Hanna and whispers something to her, no prize for guessing what she says.
Mia looks pained while Hanna asks about the Alex kiss, but also a little glow-y. She knows it’s a bad situation, she puts out the obligatory statement but she hates him, but she can’t completely keep her fondness under wraps. Neither of them buy that Mia really hates Alexander anymore.
In a spectacularly bad bit of timing, Hanna asks what about Kiki just as Sam enters their usual study room. I’m in awe of how Sam’s green lollipop matches her lipstick. Which do you think comes first: the choice of lipstick or lollipop? Or the nails, which are also green? Or does she decide the color first, and then everything must match? That seems most efficient.
While Mia says it’s nothing at first, Sam asks whether it has anything to do with Mia’s secret meetings with Alexander. Sharp cookie! She manages to guess that Mia and Alex really have a thing, and Mia asks to keep it to herself for now. Sam is like, duh, Kiki will lose her shit if she hears. Hanna says Kiki seemed to cope with the Alex thing well and Sam says no, she only pretends like it. Kiki feels like shit but she knows Mia is tired of Kiki whining and talking about Alex all the time, so that’s why she’s not talking about it. OUCH. OUCH OUCH OUCH. Man, that hit me surprisingly hard. Sam says Kiki admires Mia so much and sends her tons of messages about everything Mia does, just to rub it in my emotions more.
Mia looks miserable and like, I feel for her buuuuut all of this is deserved and she needs to feel this.
Sam says it’s not serious with Mia and Alex, is it? And when Mia doesn’t answer but the answer is clearly yes, Sam just sighs in exasperation. I feel you, babe. Oh to be a Sam on the edge of all this constant drama.
This scene hurt a lot. I loved Sam just calling Mia out and not sugarcoating it; I like that Kiki does seem to have someone firmly on her side in this situation. Not that Sam is anti-Mia or anything, just that she realizes Kiki’s side of the situation, much like Hanna is more Mia-aligned, I think, as Mia’s closest friend. And I don’t love that Kiki is only pretending to be OK because she doesn’t want to annoy Mia, because if she’s really hurting she should be able to talk to people about it, but that was a really sharp bit of insight and had such a big impact on how I viewed the situation. We already know that Kiki really loves Mia and values her opinion. We saw that she was hurt when Mia gave her a generic gift for Christmas, we saw that she was upset when Mia tried to insert herself into Kiki’s life and confront her about her eating disorder and her exercise and the plastic surgery. Kiki was defensive but I think it really hurt her that this was coming from Mia, because she looks up to Mia and Mia clearly disapproved of Kiki’s behavior. She knows that Mia is sick of hearing about Alex from Kiki, which must really sting Mia, because it’s a reaction that Mia herself has created. Mia made it so Kiki was unwilling to let out her true feelings, she made it so Kiki is apparently putting on this fake happy face. That must make Mia feel even more like shit, on top of everything with Alexander.
Clip 4 - Workout tips with Kiki
Mia meets Kiki on the field to run in the morning.  Mia wants to talk to Kiki, and I thought she was going to bring up Alexander, but it seems more like she wants to test the waters and check in on how Kiki’s doing.
Kiki assumes that talking to her is the newest strategy for Mia to prevent Kiki from working out, and that’s just a little line and a joke, but I think it says SO much about how Kiki sees Mia right now. Mia is someone who is inherently judgmental and wants to interfere with Kiki’s life. She’s someone who sees a lot of problems with Kiki’s behavior and is on a mission to meddle, so when Mia says she wants to talk, Kiki jumps to an ulterior motive. And listen, Kiki has a lot of flaws as a human being, I realize that she’s not a pleasant person and people dislike her for valid reasons, but this makes me feel for her. This is why I like her as a character if not necessarily being a great fan of her as a person, if that makes sense - she makes sense to me as a character. This type of vulnerability feels very real. I think Druck has put a lot of thought into her characterization and into the Mia-Kiki relationship.
Mia suggests stretching but Kiki’s like, lol no. They run laps, Mia trails behind Kiki, the distance between them getting wider and wider. A funny sight gag as well as a nice representation of their conflict and Mia leaving Kiki out of the loop.
Mia has to stop, she’s out of breath and panting. She’s got a stitch in her side and her feet hurt after 10 minutes. I FEEL YOU, DARLING. I have never been Mia harder than in this clip. Lmao, the difference between Mia who gets out of gym claiming to have her period vs Kiki who’s swimming in an ice cold lake in the morning.
Kiki tells Mia to do exercises while doing other activities, and Mia jokes you can do “push-ups on top of your lover” and Kiki’s like sure, can you find me one? And lol, Mia has to step back after that. TOO REAL.
Kiki just does the splits like it’s no big deal. Wow. Okay. Color me impressed.
Mia asks how Kiki is doing, if she’s OK, and Kiki’s like, why wouldn’t I be OK? It’s been 30 days since Alex dumped me, why would I still be whining about that, it doesn’t make sense! Hahaha! Mia’s face tells us she thinks this is bad news and that Kiki’s just bottling up her feelings. Makes me sad that Kiki is downplaying her emotions to Mia, who’s supposed to be her friend. It’s OK to still be upset, Kiki has very legitimate reasons to feel hurt. She doesn’t have to force herself to be fine if she’s not.
Kiki says she doesn’t want to know who Alexander is with now, which is even worse news and of course the worst thing Mia could hear. I feel like not telling her now made it an extra sting later for Kiki, though. Like she must realize afterwards that Mia was feeling the guilt with suddenly wanting to work out and check in with Kiki, but she still kept this secret that she knew would hurt her.
So Mia did not tell her about Alexander. I think she wanted to know how Kiki was genuinely doing before she told her about Alexander, but that’s still no excuse for continuing to hide it from her. If Kiki was feeling like utter garbage and said so, what would Mia have done? How is she supposed to tell Kiki about it after that? Mia wanted to know if Kiki was okay not just out of concern for her friend, but to alleviate her guilt - to know that when she did tell Kiki, it wasn’t going to be a big deal for her.
Clip 5 - Mia and Alexander are the epitome of discretion
Heh, the time card is upside down! We see Hanna is upside down and glimpsing the world that way, so it’s a fun, fitting gag. This clip aired January 31 which is Backwards Day. I love that we had this little cheeky moment.
Hanna’s upset because she saw the IG videos of Jonas and Matteo playing table tennis, and now Jonas is smoking pot even in the mornings before school, and he’s drinking more than ever. Hanna says she’s worried about him, and Mia tells her it’s not her job to take care of him. I appreciate that she said that, because I’m worried about Jonas as much as anyone, I love that guy. And I love Jonas and Hanna together! But I don’t want Hanna to feel pressured into, say, getting back together with him just to keep him sober, or to blame herself for what’s happening with him. Ultimately that’s his responsibility.
Mia has to leave Hanna, though, and go meet up with Alex. He’s standing in a nook of lockers … is there a door?????? I don’t think so. CHILDREN, BE SMART ABOUT THIS, FOLLOW YOUR HEART BUT TAKE YOUR BRAIN WITH YOU.
They make out until they hear a sound. Let’s be real, when you’re making out in a space like that, where anyone could walk by, it’s not about being secretive, it’s the thrill of not getting caught.
Alex asks her how long this will remain a secret and Mia suggests she come over later that night. Mia looks so dreamy and happy when she looks at him, geez. It’s funny if you realize they’re so busy staring into each other’s eyes that they don’t even notice Mia’s lipstick violently smeared over their mouths as if they were sucking blood from each other’s necks.
After Alex leaves, Mia goes out with her lipstick FUCKED UP, smeared everywhere. Luckily she runs into Leonie and Sara and not, say, Kiki.
Leonie asks Mia a question about the ads for the book, and then she and Sara stare at Mia looking like she ate somebody’s heart. When she asks what’s up, they’re like, no reason, LMAO. That is not an A+ move, ladies, give Mia break and maybe a tissue, but I’m not gonna lie that it made me laugh.
Clip 6 - And no one watched Harry Potter that night
Alex pours some wine for Mia and sniffs it before drinking. Was that genuine? Or was he putting her on? Mia snorts but dials it back; Alex smiles a bit. I think it was a real moment showing what class he comes from, but that he has a sense of humor to recognize it’s ridiculous.
They’re looking for a movie to watch. Mia wants to watch something you can watch over and over, which, let’s be real, is the best thing to watch when you know you’re probably going to be making out during the movie. He suggests Harry Potter.
I love that they didn’t have the same HP movie in mind. Literally no set of opinions on this planet is as intense and divisive as people’s Harry Potter opinions.
I find it very charming that Alexander mentions Sirius Black, and then they start making out as if HP is bedroom talk, because look, I can moan and groan about various aspects of HP and JKR all I want, but ... same.
Someone rings the doorbell. Dinner! OH SHIT IT’S AMIRA. She’s a delivery girl and she tells Alex not to tell anyone about this. Goddamn. I don’t think anyone in the fandom called this as her big secret. Pavel is her boss. Just as an aside ... she’s looking cute in her delivery gear.
And of course Mia gives herself away that she’s chilling at Alex’s. You can see Amira thinking goddammit, I wish I just walked in on a drug deal.
Now all the girl squad knows EXCEPT Kiki. What a total mess.
Amira chews out Mia and says it’s going to get revealed, WTF is she doing. She’s right and she should say it.
Before Amira leaves, Mia says Amira could’ve told them about this, too. Which is nice in the sense that Amira can open up with her friends, but lol, this secret is not anything like Mia’s in terms of causing friendship damage.
Mia sits back on the couch with Alex, but there’s space between them. The mood is clearly ruined, for good reason. Mia takes a drink of wine. Probably need to finish the bottle, dear.
The song: “You just made the worst mistake / And you’ll regret it darling” Well ... yeah.
Clip 7 - And no one ate dinner that night
We see Kiki at Mia’s flat, while Mia and the roommates zip around her in fast forward preparing dinner, and Kiki just sits there and watches. Interesting directing choice, I guess to emphasize how Kiki’s out of the loop? She showed up and is sitting still, they’re busy, it shows both how she’s the outsider, not just in the flat but in terms of knowledge. Like it’s very interesting to me how they film her from behind, at the table, while the other three are lined up at the counter. When Han leans forward and interacts with her directly, that’s when it slows down because she’s brought into the circle. She looks a little confused or anxious as she sits there, not like she’s just chilling having a good time drinking wine and talking to the others. And showing her sitting at the table watching them emphasizes how she’s the guest of honor at this dinner. Mia’s being a thoughtful friend cooking for her, she’s expecting a nice evening with Mia. It’s not gonna go the way she thinks.
Linn asks why Mia never cooks for them and Hans says Mia has to BE there to cook, she’s always gone in the night. Mia glares at Hans because holy shit is that information not going to go down well in a few minutes.
Kiki wants to live in a flat sharing situation so she can cook and hang and talk about everything with her friends. This bit also adds to the beginning of the clip, the feeling of separation - like Kiki desires what Mia and her roommates have, she’s the outsider looking in at them. I wonder if we’ll ever get insight into her home life? Does she feel she lacks this warmth with her family? Hans is like “talk about everything, we’ve heard so much about you,” and that gets another look from Mia. Hans sure loves dropping hints, doesn’t he. In turn, Mia hints that Hans and Linn are supposed to leave. She manages to kick Hans and Linn out, but only after Linn tells us she gets nightmares from ginger. Is that a real thing or a Linn thing? I looked it up but all I found about foods giving you nightmares were about junk food, dairy products, or carbs.
Kiki was chill with them staying but she also likes it just being her and Mia, she likes that they’re spending so much time together, and ohhhhh nooooooo. Kiki thinks so highly of Mia and she’s going to realize that this time spent with her was Mia trying to alleviate her guilt.
This looks like a date, dude.
LMAO RIGHT AFTER I WROTE THAT Kiki is like, should I be worried? Mia, panicking: “Why?” Kiki: “Is this a date and you really want to hook up with me?” IF ONLY
GODDAMMIT, right after she asks that Mia looks stressed, Kiki is like, are you bi or not, and WE DON’T GET AN ANSWER. By now I know the show addresses it, but I don’t blame people for getting stressed at these little halfway non-answers.
When Mia starts to tell her, you can see Kiki’s mood change from “I need to tell you something” when she’s more open to becoming harder and less pleased as soon as Mia mentions “last week at the party.” She just knows what’s coming. She saw Mia and Alexander together, she’s heard Sam mention how they were always together, she had her suspicions, and she knows what Mia is about to say will involve her and Alexander.
Mia is upset and tearful as she tells Kiki about Alexander being interested in her and how her feelings toward him changed. Kiki seems like she’s shut down in a no-nonsense kind of way, jaw clenched. Clearly it must be upsetting for her to hear this, but she’s not like acting out in an emotional way, she’s sort of holding it together while Mia starts to cry.
Mia says that she feels horrible and no guy is as important in the world as their friendship, but I don’t think Kiki is convinced. Mia says when Kiki wants her to stop contacting Alexander, she’ll stop, and OH NO, MIA, NOT LIKE THAT. Kiki catches it too, “contacting,” that there was more than just a kiss. Kiki finally has an outburst and says that Mia has always said Alexander is an asshole and too good for Kiki, but he’s good enough for Mia? I mean ... yeah, something deeply hypocritical about disapproving of your friend’s FWB every change you get, and then hooking up with him yourself. Especially considering how Mia has judged so many of Kiki’s choices, to the point where Kiki locked up her feelings about being dumped just because she knew Mia was sick of hearing about Alexander ... and then Mia goes behind Kiki’s back and gets with Alexander? It’s not just about Alexander, but about what this says about Mia thinks of Kiki, the lack of respect she has for her, possibly that Mia doesn’t care for Kiki like Kiki cares for Mia, enforced by other aspects of the season.
Mia asks Kiki to tell her what to do and she’ll do it. Kiki says to leave him alone, Mia says OK. I really cannot fault Kiki for this. Yeah, it’s not like she should control who Mia sees, but Mia has come to her and put this burden on Kiki’s shoulders, and it’s more about Mia’s feelings than Kiki’s, IMO. Of course Mia cares about Kiki, but what Mia is looking for here is an answer to her problem. I think what she wants is acceptance/forgiveness/permission so Mia doesn’t have to feel bad anymore, but also, it’s possible that she wants Kiki to tell her to break up with Alexander so the choice isn’t on Mia - Mia can break up with him and feel like she’s doing it for a noble cause, because I think Mia does have doubts about being with him, both because it’s Alexander and because of her past experience of getting close to her friend’s brother. Moreover, she wants the choice taken out of her hands, so it’s not Mia’s fault what happens next. And I don’t think this is fair to Kiki, for Mia to present her heart and happiness to her and put her in this position of having to tell Mia what she should do. Like, accept Mia and Alexander’s relationship so Mia can be happy, at the expense of Kiki’s own feelings? Or make Mia miserable by being the bad guy and telling her to break up with him? Absolutely not fair.
Kiki says she better leave and she does, without any drama. The acting was excellent in this scene, both of them sold the hell out of it.
I thought the clip might end here, with Mia crying and contemplating what she has to do, but next we see Mia showing up at Alexander’s. She just walks in and talks off her coat and shoes and flops on the bed. He sits behind her and she pulls his arm around her. Oh boyyyyy. Mia. What u doin.
What I thought might happen after I saw this clip was that maybe Mia thought it’d be like a “last night” sort of thing, where she’d spend one more night with Alexander and then break up with him in the morning. That obviously didn’t happen, because Mia didn’t do what Kiki asked.
I don’t think Mia is like ... obligated to follow Kiki’s orders. Of course not. But she put the request to Kiki, asked her while crying what she should do, tell her what to do, and then when Kiki gave her an answer she didn’t like, she ignored it. I thought she might use the excuse to break up with him because of her own doubts about the relationship, but I think hearing Kiki say the words made her realize how much she didn’t want to do that, and that’s why she needed to head over to Alexander’s that very night.
But it is shitty of Mia to tell Kiki she’ll do something and then not do it. It’s shitty of her to hide it from Kiki and the others. This isn’t the way to handle it.
Also, I think Mia telling Kiki over this fancy dinner that she cooked herself was kinda the wrong move? Not that any way would’ve been easy to tell her. But there’s a sense of maybe Mia trying to overcompensate and even butter up Kiki, like it would’ve been less awkward if Mia just sat her down somewhere private and told her. Have one of those Skam bench talks. Kiki also thought this dinner was going to be a sweet bonding gesture and it turns out Mia was planning on telling something that would hurt her. Additionally, Mia did the thing with the exercising earlier this week, asking to work out with Kiki which is a very unusual occurrence. So she delayed telling Kiki then, and she made it seem like she wanted to hang out just to hang out.
Social Media/General Comments
Alex continues the joke from one of the clips, where he pretends to be texting Sara and then he ends up asking to meet up with Mia but Mia says no, she has to study. He asks if she’s ghosting him but she says no, she would like to hang, but she wants to take it slow. And the conversation ends with <3 once Alex confirms he will NOT in fact be meeting with Sara and copying her boobs. Their banter is pretty enjoyable.
As seen in the clip, Kiki did a throwback picture of the girls on NYE, tagged #BFFS #CREWLOVE #FOREVER and I was like … that sure was passive-aggressive. Or pointed? Guilt-tripping? I think she really did suspect something was happening with Mia and Alex and she’s remembering how she said she could trust/rely on all of the girls on NYE, and that was a “subtle” reminder.
Hanna and Sam text about the drama after they talk with Mia, lmao. Poor Sam says she never has drama and Hanna says good, she doesn’t want it! Poor Hanna, she still has drama now with Jonas even after they broke up.
Kiki asks the girls to go to the movies, but they’re all busy. Amira has “family” (borrowing the old Isak excuse, I see) and Mia doesn’t even explain herself, which makes sense because she was having a movie night with Alexander. But you know, she didn’t even bother to lie.
After Mia and Amira find out each other’s secrets, Amira texts her saying she knows it’s hypocritical but please don’t tell anyone about her job. I mean, I guess it’s hypocritical in the sense that Amira doesn’t want Mia to keep her own secret, but Amira’s secret has like ... no effect on the other girls. They’re not going to get mad and personally hurt that Amira has a job, she’s not doing wrong by them, whereas Mia’s secret will hurt Kiki (and cause a lot of drama among the girls). So I don’t think Amira’s being very hypocritical at all.
Amira doesn’t want her family to know that she has a job. They want her to focus on school. Amira wants money to go to Australia after graduation and her parents won’t pay for it. That’s really cool. I’m so skeptical about getting a S4 since the characters will be graduating, but maybe we can get Amira’s travel adventures? Amira goes to Australia and meets a handsome guy named Yousef down under?
I love that Mia is all “I wouldn’t have expected that from you” (about Australia) because it shows that people are constantly underestimating Amira, eh?
I love that cute picture of Mia in a bathrobe with a towel wrapped around her hair that Alex took.
Hanna texts Matteo about Jonas smoking pot and being worried about him, and Matteo is worried, too. But he tells Hanna not to do anything or it’ll make it worse. Because, well, Jonas’ pot smoking and misery are Hanna-related. Matteo says he will take care of it.
Not to get super personal but this storyline is bringing back all kinds of memories for me, because I had a close version of this happen to me in real life. I wasn’t the Mia or Kiki, I was the Amira. Two friends of mine started dating behind everyone’s back, because another friend had well-known feelings for one of them and Friend A who had initially been trying to hook up Friends B and C then started dating C herself. And like Amira, I randomly found out about their secret relationship, though it wasn’t because I delivered food to them, but because another friend and I drove past A and C holding hands in a Walmart parking lot at 11 pm. Just driving through the lot, looking for an empty space, going to buy a stapler, and we see our friends happily walking our way swinging their hands together. The world went into slow motion as they walked past the car and we looked directly at each other with looks of horror. In retrospect that’s hilarious, but it ended up causing so much teen drama simply because they hid it from everyone, whereas if they’d been upfront it probably would have been fine. And also, as Amira says: something like this always gets revealed. It’s just the way of the universe. So it’s been a little surreal watching this as someone a little older and (hopefully) wiser.
Feel free to explain German culture/translation details to me if I missed them.

Ah, how much we love episode four!  It’s one of those ones that’s just so nice, isn’t it?  For the most part it’s smooth sailing and we all know how it ends for both our boys.  They get the boy!  There’s kissing and closeness and fun and romance!  But for both of them, these things are a bit different and what they want and get out of these encounters is quite different.  Even wants the grand gesture, something to solidify the things he’s been building up to with Isak over the last week or two, and David … well, he didn’t exactly want this in the same way.  And yet, once he makes up his mind he’s quite determined.  His gesture isn’t on the same scale as Even’s and yet it’s just as filled with purpose.

For the Isak and Matteo version you can start here
David makes the first approach after the almost kiss, messaging Matteo in Italian as soon as he’s awake.  I know there was a lot of theorising at the time that he was waiting for Matteo to wake up so he could send it, and that’s plausible; it certainly came very soon after Matteo started looking at stuff on his phone.  The genuinely lovely thing about this, apart from this being David making the effort to reach out, is that they are already sharing their inside jokes.  This becomes something of a thing between them, posting and saying things that only mean something to them.  No-one else is going to look at that picture of cheese toasts and think ‘wow that’s romantic’ and yet … these two are., and it’s a connection that is being forged between the two of them. It’s no wonder, then, that Matteo asks him to hang out next week; David has made his interest pretty plain.  They almost kissed and now they’re sharing cryptic messages to each other that no-one else will ever understand.  As an aside, I do wonder how they got away from the kitchen after that close call.  For Isak and Even, Noora is there and remains as a constant presence stopping anything else happening again.  For David and Matteo, Mia and Alex leave and they just sort of hang awkwardly in the kitchen.  I guess once things are broken into like that, it’s hard to recapture the magic, particularly if the cold light of day intrudes in the form of a couple arguing.  For David, who is already a little hesitant, that could easily be a reminder that he could be risking a lot only to have it fall apart easily.  He doesn’t really know Matteo yet, doesn’t know the depths of his ability to love and show affection and support.  So, I guess it does make sense that he might carefully finish cleaning up and then leave after the magic of that moment is gone.  That makes the reaching out the next day a lot more interesting, if it is the case.  That’s David overcoming his hesitations and remembering the good stuff about that night and not instantly pushing the possibility away.
For Even, Isak is the one who reaches out to him via text, and he gives him an actual dismissal.  I have spent far too much time wondering about why he would do this, and part of me wonders if it’s because Sonja was there with him when he got the message, and so he couldn’t really say what he wanted to say.  Effectively, ‘I forgot I had stuff to do with my girlfriend’ is quite dismissive.  The tone here, when we compare it to David’s first message, is very standoffish.  In general, Even is the one who is more open and eager and David is the standoffish one.  So it seems like there must be something else going on there, particularly when we look at how he is when he comes up to Isak to suggest pregaming for the Halloween party together.  This text, the dismissive one, is mirrored by Matteo’s second attempt to reach out to David.  But interestingly, David at this point doesn’t give the really solid ‘no’ that Even does.  I’m not actually sure which would be better: being ignored or being told ‘nope, doing stuff with my actual girlfriend, remember her’ but Isak is left in no doubt about where he stands.  Or so he thinks.
Then the invitation to the pregame is so deliberate and purposeful.  Even makes the approach, and does his ‘I’m super cool’ thing.  One thing with both boys at this point -- they do both know that Isak and Matteo are on the page with them.  The difference:  Even wants it, quite desperately, and is overjoyed to have it.  His demeanour in the hallway is relaxed though with a hint of fear that maybe Isak will think differently (either after the rejection in the weekend, or because Even may be worried that he has had time to rethink what almost happened on Friday).  David on the other hand is conflicted.  He’s still torn between wanting to not tell anyone anything and just how drawn he is to Matteo.  Again, the fact that this is a huge thing for him is shown up in the way that David is on screen and around Matteo a lot more.  We can assume that, since Matteo and Sara saw him and Leonie together, that David could easily have seen Matteo with Sara.  At this point, there’s that thing again - Matteo has a girlfriend, so how is it possible for David to get what he wants (but is also quite reluctant to go after at this point)?  His ‘hot and cold’ behaviour is quite likely to be because his head and his heart keep warring with him.  Sensibly, he knows that he should just put his head down, get through the rest of the year and then go his merry way.  Unfortunately our feelings are never sensible and so he finds himself drawn back to Matteo over and over and over again.  He needs to see him, though.  The pull is at its greatest when they are close.
Of course, alongside Isak, we soon find out that Sonja has inserted herself into the pregame.  To Isak this could easily look like ‘oh well, guess the kissing was a game when drunk then, here’s his girlfriend again’ but to Even it’s probably really frustrating as it gets in the way of his grand plans.  Between the lines, we can work out that Even is probably still trying to soothe Sonja’s feathers (I doubt the way he stayed behind on Friday endeared him to her).  He’d rather just be pregaming with Isak, but she’s found out about it and so they have to make it a team effort.  And then she tells Emma!  So Even has not only his own girlfriend to contend with, but now also the one Isak has been kissing etc.  It must be incredibly frustrating for him, so the way he acts at the pregame isn’t all that unusual.
David, on the other hand, gets more interaction with Matteo.  They meet again in the hallways during exam time, and while again the interaction is a little awkward (some of it potentially to do with David panicking because he’s been seen coming out of the teacher’s bathroom), Matteo makes it very clear where he stands: he’d love to get some cheese toasts again.  It’s more of the insider thing, the way they can make these references to something and have them meaningful but completely go over the heads of anyone else who may hear them.  The interesting comparison here is that while Matteo and David see more of each other and make more effort to communicate with each other, Matteo never asks David to Abdi’s party.  David comes along as a guest of Leonie’s, and mirroring the bits with Sonja and Emma, Sara is acting like this is her party and she has invited her friends to it; fascinating considering that Matteo didn’t even ask her to come and she had to go to him.  So, once again we see Even being the more proactive one in terms of manipulating a situation to go how he wants it to.  He very deliberately asks Isak to a social event together.  David does not.  He’s there almost by chance.
Even’s experience of the pregame is clearly very frustrating.  Sonja and Emma are getting on like a house on fire, they’ve been sitting and talking presumably for a long time.  It’s all very adult and respectable (compare to the neon pregame which was much more spontaneous and fun), and Isak looks bored out of his mind.  Sonja has turned it into something she likes, but that has sucked every ounce of everything Even intended out of it.  Worse, he’s miles away from Isak and the only conversation they can have is banal and stilted.  It’s no wonder he’s snippy with Sonja.  She’s ruined his plans and now she’s trying to police him.  The difference for David is that he walks in on a very heated argument in a situation where he’s not even necessarily sure he’s welcome.  Much more heated than the one between Sonja and Even.  David’s care, however, is not at all for Sara (and to be fair, Isak’s isn’t for Sonja either), and he checks in on how Matteo is doing.  Again, the difference here is interesting.  Even suggests that he and Isak should leave and isak follows.  Matteo asks if David wants to go with him and he willingly agrees.  For one set, obviously, they are more ‘together’ in this escape, whereas for the other Isak hesitates before leaving.
The difference in timing comes into play here as well.  Isak and Even cycle for a while before they get where they’re going (which doesn’t appear to be all that purposeful until Even spots it and realises what he can do), David and Matteo do too, but David seems to have a much firmer grasp on where they are going and why.  We see in episode 8 that these two actually spent a fair bit of time wandering the building before they get into the pool area.  They have an already firmly established trust and have been indulging in a lot of silliness and banter prior to this moment.  So the ‘game’ David suggests holds much less weight.  They both seem to be very comfortable with what’s happening here, very much just waiting for that first step to be taken and so the ‘bet’ isn’t taken as seriously, and even the ‘rematch’ is obviously not really about breath holding.  For Even, however, the ‘game’ is of much greater importance, partly because he’s recreating one of his favourite movie scenes and wants it to go well, but also partly because it gives him some cover of a sort.  First, it allows plausible deniability if things were to go wrong the way they did last time he tried to kiss a boy.  Second, it keeps Isak from being too spooked.  His body language is much more stilted and anxious than Matteo’s is.  Partly because they did just break and enter into someone’s house in the middle of the night, and he’s obviously wary of that, but also partly because they haven’t had the same time to build up to this.
For both Even and David this is a moment where they get to experience the joy of connecting with the boy they’re really into.  Everything is stripped away except for them together, kissing, and the interruption when it comes is just as intrusive for both.  What it means to each of them is a little different, though.  For Even it’s the relief of knowing he didn’t misread and that this boy is into him as well, and also the knowledge that he’s going to have to break it off with Sonja.  She becomes someone who’s standing in the way, and within a day of this he’s decided he has to end it.  David, by contrast, is now in very scary territory.  He’s happy of course that he took that leap, and the way he so very deliberately went about it shows that he’s actually very keen on the idea and on being with Matteo.  But for him, he now has to make some decisions about what he tells Matteo and when, he’s treading ground that could take him back to where he was at his old school.  In some ways, for David Sara represents the ability to keep things more chill with Matteo.  While she is on the scene, David doesn’t have to make any sort of final decision.  I doubt it’s quite this deliberate in his thoughts, but she’s still something of a buffer.when he still needs it.  They’re both, Even and David, at a point where they have the boy and are happy.  But they’re each in very different spaces in terms of what that means to them.  One thing that is the same for both is that each has a secret and it’s a secret he really doesn’t want to have exposed.  And each is now in a situation and with someone who can make those carefully kept secrets come out.  It’s both an amazing time and a scary one.
