i'm shamelessly biased, how about a snippet from any of the wips including ivy
(alternatively, more of the garages prequel because i'm going 👁️ at it and also i'm shamelessly biased)
hi ok i prommy the later chapters/parts of this fic will have more ivy stuff but for this specific scene it's just yuniesky having an internal monologue for most of it. also, the other ivy fic has more ivy stuff, but it's in the notes app on my phone and i didn't feel like getting my phone
fic beneath the cut because this snippet is kinda lengthy
------
He didn't find the patience, but he did find a towel. He tossed it to Ivy, who immediately wrapped it around themself. They were shivering, and probably soaked down to the skin. The air conditioning probably wasn't helping, but it was May, and Houston got warm pretty quick. Yuniesky waved Ivy over to the couch and pulled out a small space heater that they kept in the corner at all times – mostly because there was nowhere else to put it – and turned it on. Ivy gladly curled up in front of it.
Abuela came out of the kitchen and handed Ivy a warm beverage and a small cloth to wipe their glasses with. Ivy took both items with shivering hands.
"The tea hasn't steeped for very long, it might still taste like hot water," she warned.
"That's fine, thank you, Miss Torres," Ivy said.
She laughed. "My last name is Castellanos. But you can just call me Antonia, okay?"
"Oh, okay," Ivy said, looking a little embarrassed. "Thank you, Miss Antonia."
Yuniesky laughed a little at Ivy's enduring (albeit a tad misguided) politeness and finally shrugged his computer bag off his shoulder. The fabric was properly soaked, and he had to wipe off the buckle with his sleeve in order to get a grip.
"Ivy, are you sure you don't need another towel? A blanket? You're still drenched," Antonia said.
Ivy and his grandmother kept talking in the background, but Yuniesky was too busy doing a mental inventory to listen. He had a box of clothes to give away, and it seemed rude to not offer any of them. But what the fuck did he even have in there? All clothes pertaining to high school were given away long ago, as was the bright yellow shirt he earned in Utah. He probably just threw that away, actually, but all that mattered was that it was gone. There were a lot of clothes that were too small for him now. That was going to make him feel like shit. And it would make it harder to eat today. But they'd fit Ivy. And, again, it felt cruel to let them shiver like a dog that just got a bath against its will.
"There's a box of clothes I need to give to Goodwill in the hall closet. They can take something out of there," Yuniesky said.
Ivy and Antonia both looked at him with a look of immense surprise.
"Oh, sorry, did I interrupt? I wasn't listening," he admitted.
"No, no, just- thank you, Yunie. Ivy, if you want to follow me, we can get you something dry and you can change in the bathroom, okay?"
Ivy nodded and got up, mouthing a quick "thank you" to Yuniesky before trotting behind Antonia. Yuniesky just nodded in acknowledgment. He didn't like that they were surprised, although he knew why. A year ago, he wouldn't have offered any sort of belongings, past or present, to anyone he knew. Hell, two years ago, he wouldn't have even stopped to get Ivy out of the flash flood. He would have decided it wasn't his problem and kept going.

Spy vs. Spy is a political cartoon, but it’s not a Political Cartoon. The strip stakes its claim immediately via a single thematic masterstroke—overlaying the blind jingoism and deranged paranoia of Cold War politics onto the endlessly resilient slapstick framework of classic cartoons—and then spends the rest of its existence exploring every facet of that premise by remixing the established formula.
In our latest original feature, Gyasi Hall dives deep into Spy vs. Spy, Antonio Prohías’ iconic MAD Magazine comic strip. Its premise may seem simple, but its revolutionary sensibility has proven impossible to replicate. Click the image (or here) to read the piece.

cold war metaphors? in the little black and white gay boys?
OH ABSOLUTELY SPY VS SPY IS A COLD WAR METAPHOR
theyre meant to represent the USA and the USSR and their rivalry is meant to be the cold war represented through their consistent, pointless fighting with no reason portrayed throughout the comics. it was created by this Cuban guy, Antonio Prohías, and he fled Cuba to the US three days before Castro's regime started. he was accused of being a spy, so he made a comic about spies. so all of Black Spy and White Spy's bombing and fighting and hurting each other is all Cold War metaphor. also yeah im just insane and am like "what if they're gay and are in (really fucked up) love w each other"

Spy Cherub vs. Spy Cherub
Tumblr media
Colored version
Tumblr media
Edited Monochrome version
What's up, folks? In honor of Valentine's Day, I've decided to create cupid, cherub esque versions of the spies with their trademark wide brim hats, and I gave them pastel colored wings (powder blue for White and mint green for Black) because why not. While there are so many cupid esque cherubs going around getting couples together for this occasion, these two cherubs in particular have not come out of the cold, unfortunately. Typical of these two, just absolutely typical. Either way, they're still frick'n adorable, even though I was the one who made this. Yes, I wish I could magically stick my hands in the picture and pick them both right up and tickle them. I'm sorry, but I cannot help it. I mean, I find both Black and White equally amusing, charming, and handsome despite their equally savage and demented tendencies towards each other for the most part. At the end of the day, they are such a riot. (I apologize if you can't see White's heart dagger nor Black's heart mine in the monochrome image). I hope y'all enjoy this and Happy Valentine's Day. Peace.
I do not claim ownership of any content. Spy vs. Spy belongs to the defunct MAD Magazine and the late, great Antonio Prohías.

I’M SCREAMING RIGHT NOW BECAUSE I COULD NEVER REMEMBER WHAT THE MADtv SPY VS. SPY SHORTS WERE CALLED MY WHOLE LIFE
I WOULD TRY DESCRIBING THEM TO OTHERS BUT NOBODY UNDERSTOOD WHAT I MEANT, WHICH WAS UNDERSTANDABLE BC I COULD ONLY DESCRIBE THE SHOW BY SAYING SOMETHING LIKE “BLACK AND WHITE CRAZY PLAUGE DOCTORS EXPLODING EACH OTHER” BC I SAW IT WHEN I WAS SO YOUNG. IT WOULD COME INTO MY MIND EVERY NOW AND THEN AND BE DISAPPOINTED THINKING THAT I MADE IT UP
AND OH MY GOSH BECAUSE OF YOUR POST I FINALLY KNOW THE NAME OF THE SHOW THANK GOODNESS I FEEL SO HAPPY THANK YOU
(I know this wasn’t your intention when making that post BUT I HAD TO RANT)
SLUGGY, I!!!!! HAVE BEEN HAVING A PRETTY ROUGH DAY BUT YOUR ALL-CAPS ASK CHEERED ME UP SO MUCH???? YOU DESCRIPTION IS 100% SPOT-ON AND I LOVE IT AND I'M SO GLAD MY RANDOM POST HELPED YOU IN SOME SMALL WAY! I'M ALSO GONNA USE THIS ASK TO RANT ABOUT THIS WEIRD BUT COOL ROCK I KNEW EXISTED BUT HAD NEVER PROPERLY LOOKED AT BEFORE CALLED SPY VS. SPY OK HERE WE GO:
Tbh I don't even know how I learned about Spy v. Spy other than weird cultural osmosis... I have never so much as picked up an issue of MAD magazine, and while I KNOW I saw tiny bits and pieces of MADtv when it was on the air I don't recall those guys specifically, so ultimately I have no idea ^_^ But anyway! Last month I looked it up for Art Reasons(tm) and kind of fell in love with the style, which is what inspired that post. The shorts are on YouTube! They were created by Cuban artist Antonio Prohías in the 1960s! He sold his first comic strips to MAD without speaking a word of English(!!!!). ANYWAY THAT’S AWESOME and I feel more enriched historically and artistically as a result. SPY VS. SPY IS A GOOD TIME! THE SPIES ARE FUN TO DRAW! THEY ARE SO MANY TRIANGLES! And finally... I'M SO GLAD YOU FINALLY HAVE A NAME FOR THOSE B&W MAD LADS!!!!! I HOPE YOU HAVE A GOOD NIGHT!!!!!!
Ahem. That is all :)

Feliz Cumpleaños to Cuban artist Antonio Prohías (January 17, 1921 – February 24, 1998) who is best known for his comic characters Spy vs. Spy from Mad Magazine.
Prohías' career in comics started in Cuba during the 1940s for the Cuban newspaper El Mundo. Once Fidel Castro took power and started muzzling the press, Prohías started protesting in the form of anti-Castro drawings. His drawings caused him to be accused of being a spy for the C.I.A., putting him in the Castro administration's crosshairs.Prohías left Cuba for New York in 1960.
Prohías walked into the Mad Magazine offices unannounced, not speaking a word of English (his daughter translated) showed his work and sold three Spy vs. Spy comic strips. By the end of his career, Prohías would sell 241 Spy vs Spy comic strips to Mad.
He would retire in 1986. He would pass away of cancer on February 24, 1998.

Spy vs Spy is not, and never was, French. The creator, Antonio Prohías, was a Cuban Refugee who fled Fidel Castro after making anti-communist comics criticizing Castro (at which point Fidel was accusing him of being a spy and threatening to kill him), and came to America, at which point he created the comics for American magazine "MAD".
Ahh, my bad.
