god literally as someone who’s loved selkie mythology all my life, a certain amount of this websites take on them is like, ok fine reinterpret and water it down to nothing if it makes you happy, whatever, but i cannot stand how prevalent its become. like ONE story about a selkie giving her skin to someone out of trust, fine. so many that it overtakes the genre and people think thats what selkies were about in the first place? im tearing my hair out.

yeah like idk if you want to do a retelling whatever i dont own the concept of selkies but its annoying how hard it gets to actually engage with the story as it was originally told and the themes therein when it only exists in most people minds as a hollowed out disney movie-ified version of it. like i actually find the original myth kind of hopeful in a way and have a lot of love for it bc no matter what happens there is a guarantee of the selkies escape at the end and it pisses me off how many people find that too depressing or whatever bc the guy is left alone at the storys conclusion like she gets out!!!! she was trapped and she gets out!! why is that depressing to you why does THAT need to be changed specifically in your 'modern retelling'

#not saying the original story is like Feminist or whatever bc its not #and ive definitely read a lot of tellings that do pitch the selkie escaping and the guy being left alone as depressing #& are overly sympathetic to the guys perspective but its like. #i dont know i think a telling that is sympathetic to the selkie would be way more better as a Modern Take on it than scrubbing away #anything you dont find suitably romantic or cute or whatever

. Sabo cares about people in general – but there aren’t a huge number of people he cares for on a personal level.

. He is very close to a small select group, and becoming a member of that group is harder than you might think. Simply because he is so often way on Revolutionary Army business that it can be hard to find time to get to know him.

. But once you’re in his circle he will go above and beyond for you, every time. And if you’re romantically involved with him then prepare to be loved unconditionally forever.

. Sabo is confident in most aspects of his life, but his love life is a bit hit and miss. He can be quite self-conscious of his appearance (mainly his scars) and often doubts if he is worth his lovers attention.

. Sabo loves to be in contact with his S/O – even if it’s just standing close enough to brush shoulders. He loves physical contact and will not shy away from an impromptu hug or cuddle. He is less likely to initiate these himself but it isn’t completely unheard of.

. He is quite the gentleman when in a relationship. Sabo will hold doors open for his S/O, help them carry stuff, get things down off of high shelves if they are too short to reach. If his partner gets injured in any way he will do whatever he can to help – washing their clothes, helping them bathe, cleaning their weapons – whatever needs to be done.

. When Sabo sleeps in the same bed as his partner he can be quite annoying because he is always kicking the covers off of himself, and his S/O in the process. Luckily he always radiates heat due to his D/F power so his partner can snuggle up to him if they get too cold.

. Because he is often busy, he likes when his partner comes and hangs out while hes doing paperwork. They dont have to do anything, just being present is enough for him.
