POV: This is your third school in as many years. At least you aren't homeless anymore. You haven't slept most of the night because you woke up to find a strange and terrible god staring at you, and besides, you had homework to do. You cover the dark circles around your eyes with cosmetic dark circles - cheap burgundy eyeshadow and thick black eyeliner. You got beat up in the locker room at least once a week, but it's whatever. People also keep touching your hair because it's "so long" or something, and you're starting to be an asshole to them about it. You think you might have some Severe Mental Health Issues, and also you're pretty sure you're a man, but those are things to wait until college to worry about. You subsist entirely on carrot sticks, celery, grapefruit juice, Russian Caravan, and hot sauce. You got into several Ivy-Leagues but you can't afford to go so you've already resigned yourself to community college. You once fell through the kitchen floor and sprained your ankle and had to walk several miles to the doctor on it. You only take cold showers and boil water over the stove to wash dishes because your house hasn't had heat in years. More popular girls in your history class are surprised and impressed to discover you're more sexually experienced than they are, and the boys like that you've got the proportions of Jessica Rabbit. You're either a teachers pet or the teachers cannot stand you, there is no in between. You have a tenuous grip on reality and are starting to suspect you're a changeling, or something else inhuman. You pull out a battered second-hand iPod and listen to these songs on the long walk home from Chess Club. AKA "Songs Arin Was Really Weird About In High School"

Brown that it was to drop out of UVa #though i guess UVa is still considered a 'public ivy' so still embarassing i guess #but arin really started embracing the less palatable parts of self by that point anyway so i guess it didnt matter #a truly rotten personality

But actually it's kinda funny cause, like, visually people just CANNOT accurately clock our age because one day I'll have the librarian tell me I can't leave the library on my own and I have to wait with him for my parents to come pick me up "since I'm younger than 16" and the next day I'll have the guy at the post office ask if I'm my 30 year old roommate's parent.

have been on a high fantasy/medieval fantasy/classic fantasy tropes fantasy kick lately. a lot of this stuff is stuff arin was already familiar with but i never experienced so in that dissociative way it feels simultaneously familiar and brand new. there's something comforting about the genre (because its what we grew up on, i guess) but also it's all fairly New Content to me.

anyway i'm probably a bit late to the game on a lot of these but i'm probably going to be occasionally popping in with my Spicy Takes on Tolkien's work (books and films, new to me but both already familiar to arin), A Song Of Ice And Fire (books and show, both new to me bot already familiar to arin), The Witcher (games which I've played the first one of before already but will try and play the other ones soon and novels which arin was already familiar with but new to me - not sure if i plan on watchign the show yet), Drizzt novels (familiar to arin new to me), and continued WoW and WarHammer ramblings.

#also if anyone has any suggestions for more stuff of this kind of flavor i'd love that #probably arin already has the books somewhere that i can dig up anyway #all that Classic Fantasy stuff #arinposting #also like re: recommendations #swordfights and hot elves are cool and all but i'm more interested in worldbuilding and political intrigue in my fantasy
