Asbury
The following is a Facebook post from a friend of a friend.
I’m hesitant to post my thoughts on what’s happening in Wilmore. A few of you may have heard about the “Revival” at Asbury University. I attended the gatherings from the first day til now. A chapel service that didn't stop but continued spontaneously for 8 days now. It was an intimate space for students but it is now the focus of global intrigue, mass pilgrimage, and digital evaluation. I am aware that not everyone has a paradigm for this form of spirituality but I want to be honest to my own understanding.
I come from a spiritual background that has left me weary of hype in a culture of spectacle. I’ve grown tired of disintegrous representations of divine work but it is clear God is moving in a surprising and transformative way. However, when you think of “revival”, what comes to mind might not be what’s happening.
To quote Professor McCall, a theology professor at Asbury Seminary, “what we are experiencing now—this inexpressibly deep sense of peace, wholeness, holiness, belonging, and love—is only the smallest of windows into the life for which we are made.”
The movements of the spirit in western evangelicalism always exist in the middle of a cultural moment. A generous interpretation of these movements reveals unique traits for each one. For example, fervor for the great commission at the Mt. Hermon Conference, overwhelming joy in Toronto Outpouring, zeal for the lost in Brownsville Revival, acts of healing at the Kansas City awakening, and manifestation of tongues at the Azusa Street revival. In each move of the spirit, God clearly manifests in a specific way for that generation. I find it interesting that God would mark this outpouring with:
A tangible sense of peace for an generation with unprecedented anxiety.
A restorative sense of belonging for a generation amidst an epidemic of loneliness
An authentic hope for a generation marked by depression.
A leadership emphasizing protective humility in relationship with power for a generation deeply hurt by the abuse of religious power.
A focus on participatory adoration for an age of digital distraction.
It feels as if God is personally meeting young adults in ways meaningful to them. My generation was formed differently then previous generations and so the traits of this revival are different then revivals of old. The new outpouring is not the signs and wonders nor zealous intercession nor spontaneous tongues nor charismatic physicalities nor the visceral travail. It is marked by a tangible feeling of holistic peace, a restorative sense of belonging, a non-anxious presence through felt safety, repentance driven by experienced kindness, humble stewardship of power, and holiness through treasuring adoration.
It is important to reflect on the words of Jesus ”no one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the new wine will burst the skins; the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. No, new wine must be poured into new wineskins.”
I don’t want to make the mistake of trying to fit this new work into old paradigms. The new wine cannot be understood with the old expectations of revival.
As the revival has grown, people attempt to evaluate and participate from their old expectations. You cannot keep new wine in the old wineskin; or it may cause disappointment, disillusionment and divisiveness. In humility, we must receive the new wine with an open hand without trying to force this spiritual movement into our well intended but old expectations of renewal. We must strive to humbly participate, appreciatively celebrate, and intentional respond to this surprising work of the spirit with openness and hunger.

Spontaneous Revival: The Prophetic Invitation of the Asbury Revival
When you see evidence of a Holy Spirit outpouring, it’s an indicator light.
It’s a supernatural invitation summoning you to do something so that you can experience that same measure of Holy visitation.
Asbury is an Invitation
Presently, we are witnessing the Spirit of God moving powerfully across the Earth—most notably at Asbury University (although, I am convinced we have been experiencing the rumble of Great Awakening for many years now, most notably in 2020 with the CA Beach Revivals hosted by Saturate, the North GA Revival in Dawsonville, the eight-year plus Fresh Start Revival in Peoria Arizona, the culture of revival at the Ramp in Hamilton, AL, and so on).
Bottom line: The “wells” of revival are reopening, as Asbury had at least two notable revivals in the past, most popularly and widely recognized, the 1970 Asbury Revival. God’s movement yesterday should provoke us to expect a fulfillment, or completion of that move today. He finishes what He starts, and Jesus is returning for a church that is compatible with His Second Coming—a glorious bride so in sync and in step with the Holy Spirit that the church and the Spirit are speaking the same language, saying the same thing concerning King Jesus: Maranatha… Come!
God is Not Repeating the Greatest Hits of the 1990’s
Immediately, our tendency is to want to go where God is moving. That’s important for sure. But then I sensed the Holy Spirit spoke to me with sobriety saying, “I don’t want a repeat of the 1990’s.” The 90’s was a historic time of revival, from the 1993’s Rodney Howard-Browne camp meetings at Carpenter’s Home Church in Lakeland, to the 1994 Toronto Blessing (truly, one of the landmark moves of God in history that impacted the world), to the 1995 Brownsville Revival (which saw over two million people visit an Assembly of God Church in Pensacola, FL and thousands of people either give their lives to Christ, or re-dedicate their lives to Him), and then the Smithton Outpouring in the cornfields of Missouri, where God descended in power reminiscent of the great frontier revivals of Cane Ridge and the Red River Meeting House.
These are all glorious moves of God that must be honored as memorials of Holy Spirit visitation… but a memorial is never meant to produce stagnancy. A memorial should not create a culture of reminiscence; it should provoke us to pray, “Lord, do it again,” and then, become a people willing to “do again,” what they did to experience revival.
It’s time to ASK for the Rain… because it’s raining!
Asbury University is a summons right now. Should you go and visit? Absolutely, yes. But if you cannot make it to Asbury University, I have good news for you: You too can experience the outpouring of Holy Spirit right where you are. No one is safe.
How can you experience this blessing of revival? Zechariah 10:1 tells us exactly what to do when God is pouring out His Spirit: you ask for rain in the time of rain. Obviously, it’s the time of revival and outpouring, so you need to ask for it for yourself.
Generally, we refer to this “asking” as prayer. But there is a kind of prayer that is compatible with revival.  Humdrum prayer won’t suffice.  Kumbaya prayers won’t break open the heavens. We cannot be half-hearted in our prayers.  Back in Christian School (before I was redeemed, of course), I remember we loved “prayer request time” at the beginning of class.  Why?  Not because we were Intercessors-in-the-making, but the longer we focused on “prayer requests,” the less we needed to do in terms of class work. We trivialized prayer. We prayed for Aunty Sally, and my neighbor’s book, and then of course, there would be the kid with “Ten Unspoken” prayer requests. Let’s do an honest assessment of our adult prayer lives: sometimes, does it seem like we are just going through the motions and prayer is a drag? I suggest prayer is a drag because it’s robotically going through lists, it’s sanctified complaining, and it’s “righteous gossip.”
Where are the voices that will shatter darkness and tear open the Heavens over a territory because they contend, travail and intercede until a breakthrough takes place?
Are your prayers compatible with revival?
I’m not suggesting Father God is seated in Heaven with His hands clenched around revival, waiting for the loudest, most intense prayers. Rather, I do believe Heaven is looking and listening at the tone of your prayers—how hungry are you? How thirsty are you? Are you satisfied with where you are in your walk with God—or are you divinely unsettled? Do you read the Bible and wonder, “Why aren’t we seeing or experiencing what is clearly available through the power of the Holy Spirit?” It’s legal to be hungry and thirsty for more than theological knowledge. There is nothing wrong with you if your heart burns to see the words on the page become demonstration in and through your life.  These qualities have historically marked revivalists.
There’s no question about the faithfulness of God or integrity of His Word; we know Scripture is true. So, if the Word is true, and we are not seeing the Word come to pass, it’s a provocation for us to cry out in prayer until everything He promised comes to pass—and I am referring to the great and glorious last-days promise of a Holy Spirit outpouring that impacts all flesh.
When you see and hear about God moving, smile, celebrate, praise the Lord, and then ask for the same rain of Holy Spirit outpouring to saturate your life, your family, your school, your church, your city and your nation. It’s raining… so ask for the rain.  It’s time!

feb 15
a preemptive daily (regular daily will follow tomorrow)
is this what we've been praying for?  on february 8th during, a chapel service on asbury campus, at least a hundred young people came forward and fell to their knees at the altar.  it began a mighty campus revival that continues to this day and word has it that it is spreading to other campuses as well.  has the woke young generation finally awaken to God?
we all know that God has a people He wants to rescue from this generation.  only God knows where all this is heading but we know what Jesus said.  "and I also say to you that you are peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it." matt 16:18  no, He is not calling peter the rock but the rock is the revelation that Jesus Christ is indeed the Son of God.
the Holy Spirit is making that truth known today around the world.  religious revivals and growth are happening all over the world.  in sub-sahara africa christianity is growing faster than their actual population growth.  and by the way, sub-sahara population growth is currently the fastest in the world.
the growth of the pentecostal growth in recent years has been nothing less than staggering.  in 1970 they represented only about five percent of christians while today they number about twenty-five percent.  they are projected to reach over a billion by the end of the century.  that amounts to the current population of china.  (of course, i don't believe any of us think there is anywhere near that much time left.)  people today are tired of the old form and ceremony traditional religion has been offering.  they are hungry for more.  the spirit within them yearns for more of the Spirit of Truth Jesus spoke of.
some studies show that the growth of christianity is far outreaching the growth of islam.  by these estimates there will be soon be three christians for every two muslims.  politics and culture have been so impacted by the christian sentiment, many leftist believe the rise of a christian theocracy is trying to establish itself.  (note the recent rise of the prime minister of italy.)  the media and ruling elite actively strive to hide all these things from the people at large.
yes, darkness is having it's rise but even as the devil turns up the heat, God will be matching it - burner for burner.  the bible says the devil will have his day.  the bible also says, "those of the people who understand shall instruct many; yet for many days they shall fall by sword and flame, by captivity and plundering." dan 11:33
in recent years we have witness zealots for religion sacrifice their lives for what they believe would earn them heaven.  one cannot earn something that is freely given.  it had to be freely given because it's cost was more than anyone could pay.  anyone but One, that is.
"I came to send fire on the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled!" luke 12:49  pockets; pockets around the world.  the match is lit and soon the fire will become a blaze which cannot be contained.  the church will have to be removed for darkness to have it's day simply because darkness cannot overcome light.  it exists only in the absence of light.  do you feel the spark in your heart yet?  feed the fire and watch it grow.  the Holy Spirit has a work to do in these days and i pray we all be a feather drifting wherever He blows.
how long will it be before the secular world takes stringent notice and attempts to "cancel" us out - figuratively and literally?  it may soon not just be words of condemnation we will have to endure.  count the costs today.  decide now how far you are willing to go and whether there be any price too costly for you to pay.
i have counted the cost.  whatever i have was given to me by God and i freely offer it all back to Him.  "finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing." 2 tim 4:8  maranatha.  even so, come Lord Jesus!

JOY OF THE LORD: You will LOVE this new upbeat worship song by Winston Davenport
Winston Davenport's newest album, EMERGING, chronicles the awakening of the sleeping Church as she enters into her rightful state of Kingdom Living. The album maintains Davenport's progressive soundscapes, mixing the live worship feel with electronic elements that will appeal to fans of Kari Jobe, Bethel Music, Chris Tomlin, and Matt Redman, while still sounding modern and cutting edge.
Winston Davenport is a prophetic worship leader and Christian teacher with a rich heritage in the faith. He began leading worship when he was four years old to a congregation of stuffed animals in the basement. God called him to ministry when he was fifteen years old, and Winston has been songwriting and leading worship at churches and conferences ever since. Winston partnered with Youth With A Mission (YWAM), International House of Prayer (IHOP), and Teen Challenge and has ministered all around the world, as far as Thailand, Malaysia, and Japan. He has a degree from Coastline College, as well as schooling from University Of The Nations and Bethel Church.
Several years ago, God told Winston that He would call him to "set Christians free" through a preaching gift. This call came during a period of addiction and depression in Winston's life, when he found himself in terrible circumstances. He loved Jesus, but something was missing. He realized that before he could hope to "set Christians free," he himself needed to realize this promised freedom. God called Winston to an 18-month media fast: no music, no books, no television or movies. Just prayer and meditation.
God began to open Winston's eyes to deeper truths than he ever imagined were possible. Little by little, the Father tore down wrong beliefs that Winston had been taught growing up in church, replacing them with raw relationship and revelation that could never come from hearing a sermon in church. Winston began to see newfound freedom in his life---freedom from addiction, from difficult circumstances, and from depression.
Several years later, Winston has never gone back to these old ways of thinking, these substandard ways of living. He is a passionate powerhouse of God's grace, setting people free and spreading the message of the Father's unconditional love and empowerment through anointed prophetic worship music and an infectious preaching gift. His music, sermons, and videos have spanned the globe, and his message of freedom is spreading like a wildfire.
Winston currently resides in Montana. Winston also owns Threshold Media Group, a creative collective including many powerful songwriters, musicians, authors, and ministers. Threshold Media Group is a full-service recording studio and book production facility.
Winston has been inspired by the following teachers: Damon Banks, Brandon Anderson, Bill Johnson, Kris Vallotton, Joseph Prince, Joyce Meyer, Joel Osteen, Andrew Wommack, Mike Bickle, Derek Flood, Esther Hicks, John Crowder, and Joshua Tongol; and the following worship leaders: Jason Upton, Misty Edwards, Darrell Evans, Jesus Culture, Hillsong United, Brooke Fraser, Kari Jobe, Cory Asbury, Chris Tomlin, Matt Redman, David Crowder, Peter Hartzell, and Ascend The Hill.

Growing up, music was the best friend that kept me out of trouble. Music was the attic in which I would crawl whenever the world proved tougher than me. Music has always been with me through the darkest times of my life when I experienced the devastating pain of loss. Music made me smile and dance. Music drew me back to God.
As a human race we come together for birth and we come together for death. There’s a reason music is a fundamental part of almost every occurrence in our society; there’s a song for childbirth, a song for death, a song for marriage, a song for harvest, a song at the return of a loved one, a song for the nation. Music has the power to influence self-reflection and recollection, to salvage a dying spirit and re-awaken a dying passion, to influence train of thought and change thought. Music can bring enemies together; it can uplift even the most hopeless of people.
Where words leave off, music begins. I believe in the power of music.
That’s why I have put together this playlist. There’s a common theme in these songs. Of hope, and faith and the belief that there is a God who above all else, loves us. You can download the playlist here… Sounds Of Hope… Light Pink Downloadable PDF Sounds Of Hope…Grey Downloadable PDF
There’s truth in these songs. It may or may not be what you’re looking for. But above all else, I hope you find comfort, refuge and light…

DRY BONES: You will LOVE this new worship song by Winston Davenport
youtube
