Ateez's Full Storyline Explained - Updated Regularly!
Xikers' Full Storyline Explained - Masterlist
CIX's Full Storyline Explained - Masterlist
Everything is in chronological order and updated whenever new information/content is released so, if you start at Part 1 and go from there, you should be fully caught up with the entire storyline up until now.
Side note: Japanese comebacks are not included due to them being self-contained (aside from Paradigm though that contains no plot points beyond the indication of a major shift in ideology which is already covered in the Movement album). Don’t Stop on the other hand was left out due to the storyline being in line with that of all Ateez Universe (now Klap Entertainment) content which is separate from Ateez’s regular main storyline.
If I overlooked or forgot something, feel free to hit me up and if you'd like to discuss theories, feel free to message me as well!

𝐇𝐎𝐍𝐆𝐉𝐎𝐎𝐍𝐆 | 홍중
Hongjoong released a long sigh, staring through the telescope he held between his glove-clad hands.
"Tired?" You questioned.
He scoffed. "No."
"Liar."
"I'm used to staying up late. You should know this by now."
"Yeah, yeah." You waved a dismissive hand, repositioning yourself on the raised platform Hongjoong sat upon, fixing your gaze on the city below. "How many nights are we going to spend keeping watch out here like this?"
"Until we get the signal."
"The signal." You muttered through a sigh of exasperation. "And when will we be getting that?"
"Don't know." Hongjoong pushed the telescope closed and set it aside.
You leaned back, resting on your palms while gazing out at the nighttime cityscape lit up with vibrant neon hues from the different signs displayed on buildings. The streets were empty, completely vacant and void of any civilians. This place you called your temporary home was practically a ghost town. Despite the people here being away from the government's control, they all seemed to prefer to move quietly throughout to city so as not to draw any attention to themselves.
The sound of a motorcycle revving loudly echoed somewhere in the distance.
Well, except some people.
Hongjoong chuckled softly. "That must be Seonghwa."
"Must be. What is he doing anyway?"
"Riding around with his new motorcycle gang I suppose."
"That doesn't seem like something that pertains to the plan."
"No, but who says we can't have a little fun while we wait to put the plan in motion? He grinned.
"Yeah. You have a point."
"Plus, we're just regular civilians going about our daily lives. Isn't that right?"
"Right."
Hongjoong adjusted the hat on his head, pushing it back enough to where he could look up at the stars. His cowboy attire was a bit ridiculous, but it was his disguise and unfortunately yours as well. All the boys were staying in separate hideouts around the city. You, Hongjoong, and Mingi were located in a part of the city that had a more western feel to it and in order to blend in, you had to dress the part. Not only that, but the boys were wanted for their crimes against the government and they needed to keep a low profile, lest they get captured by the android guardians.
"Mingi's face is plastered all over the city." You commented, recalling the numerous sketches of him you had seen stuck to nearly every building.
"I know."
"You don't think our cover is gonna get blown?"
"No. There have been plenty of times we've almost been caught in the past, but we always make it out."
He had a point. All of them were uncannily lucky when it came to escaping the clutches of the android guardians. Yes, Yeosang got captured once, but he was brought back completely unscathed with his emotions still intact. That was a miracle in and of itself. There wasn't a day that went by where the boys weren't thankful for all eight of them being safe.
"At this point, what are we even watching for? Nothing has happened in Prestige Academy for months."
"We're not watching for anything. We're just keeping an eye on them."
You hummed and nodded, your fingers mindlessly fiddling with the fringe on your vest.
"Do you ever miss home?" You questioned, eyes locked on the dreary slate gray city of Strictland far in the distance—a reminder of how vastly dissimilar this world was from the one you grew up in.
Hongjoong pursed his lips in thought.
"Not really. Our lives weren't exactly perfect and it seemed like none of us had a purpose. The group broke apart and everyone was dealing with their own issues. Here, we have a purpose and whatever problems we had back home are insignificant now, especially compared to the threat we're facing here." There was a brief pause before he added, "What about you?"
"Do I miss home?" You questioned.
He nodded.
"No, but sometimes yes. Back in our world, I felt stuck I guess. I didn't know what I wanted to do with my life and I felt like I was being held back. If you can believe it, I feel more free here, even with all the rules the government is trying to enforce."
Hongjoong chuckled softly. "I get what you mean."
"When we first started this journey together, I was terrified. I didn't think I had it in me to make such daring moves, but now I want to do thrilling things like infiltrating an academy, but I do sometimes miss the normality of my old life. I miss hanging out with you guys in that old tin building."
"I do too." Hongjoong smiled fondly, turning to you. "But it's like I said earlier, who says we can't have a little fun? This dystopian world may be bleak, but we can still take it easy and have moments of normalcy."
The light from the large neon sign reading The Goat shone along his face, highlighting his side profile as he looked at you. It was a heavenly sight and one that had your heart thumping wildly with adoration.
You felt strongly about Hongjoong and had been quietly swooning over him for a long time now. Unfortunately, with all of the chaos constantly going on around you, there was no possibility of confessing. However, in this moment of vulnerability, you found yourself uttering something you normally wouldn't say.
"I'm glad I'm here with you."
Hongjoong's head lifted at your words. Now that he was looking at you, his eyes studying your face, you got nervous.
"Sorry." You murmured an apology, fiddling with the fringe of your vest again. "It's just that... well, you mean a lot to me and if we hadn't gone on this rollercoaster of a journey together and I stayed at our old home I'd probably be miserable. What I'm trying to say is that I'm thankful that we stuck together."
His gaze softened, a gentle smile gracing his pretty lips.
"I feel the same way."
A beat passed and Hongjoong scooted closer, it was unnoticed by you, as you'd turned your gaze back to the neon dotted cityscape ahead, staring out at the nighttime scene. His lips pressed together in momentary contemplation while his fingers fidgeted with the chains attached to his black leather gloves.
Hongjoong was a smart man, but your words caused him some confusion. Was that a confession? A subtle way to declare your feelings without saying it outright? Maybe you were just showing him appreciation for your companionship—or maybe you were hinting that you wanted something more. He hoped it was the latter.
There was only one way to find out.
He had taken on the android guardians multiple times, broke into a museum to steal the Cromer, snuck around Strictland to set up speakers, and now he was planning to infiltrate Prestige Academy to save as many students as possible, which would be one of their biggest and riskiest plans ever. Confessing is nothing compared to that. It should be a piece of cake. Keyword should.
Swallowing his pride and pushing away his nerves, he leaned over towards you, the movement grabbing your attention. Seeing how close he was made you tense up, but you didn't make any efforts to move away. Truthfully, you didn't want to.
His eyes were a little wider than usual, hesitancy swimming in his brown irises. The reason for that reluctance, you didn't know.
"Hongjoong?" Your voice came out much quieter than you intended. "What's happening?"
"I'm about to kiss you."
There was a brief pause of silence as your brain processed what he had just said. The only word that managed to come out of your mouth in response was,
"Okay."
You hardly had time to internally cringe at your lame response as Hongjoong's lips made contact with yours, promptly silencing your thoughts. Their softness alone had your mind turning to mush, your eyelids sliding closed as you practically melted into him. His gloved hand moved to cradle the side of your face while your hands relocated from your lap to the nape of his neck to keep him held close, hoping that this moment would last long enough for you to believe it wasn't a dream. His kisses were so delicate and slow. It felt like he was pouring all of his emotions into it, conveying just how much you meant to him with each gentle press of his lips.
Only a few moments passed before Hongjoong's kisses became a little more heated as he picked up the pace, moving his lips with more urgency. He even nipped at your bottom lip a couple times, earning a quiet squeak of surprise from you. You were thankful to be sitting down or else your knees would have given out on the spot. He chuckled lowly against your lips, amused by your reaction. His sultry laugh made your heart thump rapidly, your hands tightening into fists.
It wasn't long before your hands moved to his hat, pulling it off his head and tossing it to the side somewhere so you could card your fingers through his blue locks, grabbing handfuls of it. He let out a low hum that vibrated against your lips and sent a rush of butterflies to your stomach. After a particularly dizzying kiss, you sighed out his name, your mind far too clouded to realize what you had said. Hongjoong couldn't ignore the way that lit a fire in him. He liked how you sounded and he wanted to hear it again.
At this point, keeping watch was at the back of Hongjoong's mind. All he could think about was you and how glorious it felt to be kissing you like this and what it would take for you to say his name again.
"Say my name." He sighed out between heated kisses. "Please."
You did as he asked, repeating his name in a breathless whisper, egging him on.
His hand that cupped your cheek slid around to the back of your neck, his thumb gently rubbing your nape. You suppressed a shiver as he took your bottom lip between his, encasing it in warmth.
The both of you parted ways, Hongjoong's eyes looking hazy while his tongue darted out to wet his lips that were slightly swollen from your intense make out session. It seemed impossible, but he looked even more stunning than usual.
"What was that for?" You questioned breathlessly.
"I didn't know how else to convey my feelings."
"So, instead of just confessing, you did something riskier by kissing me?" You asked amusedly.
"What can I say? I'm a man who likes to take risks." The statement was confident, but judging by the pink tinting the tips of his ears, the thought of straight up confessing hadn't crossed his mind.
"Now what?"
"Well..." Hongjoong trailed off, his hand finding yours. "We can be together and still take down Prestige."
You gave a lighthearted chuckle. "Alright then. If you think you can handle balancing a relationship and overthrowing the government."
"Please." He scoffed playfully. "I'm the captain. I can handle anything."
Hongjoong's eyes shifted slightly, moving away from your face and focusing on something in the distance.
"Someone's coming." He announced, his gaze fixed on a figure riding a delivery scooter.
You chuckled softly even though you were bummed out that the moment had ended.
Duty calls.
He scrambled for his telescope, opening it up and peering through the glass.
"We didn't order any food." You mused.
"I know."
He zeroed in on a logo stuck to the delivery scooter that read Blue Bird Delivery. A silent sigh of relief was released. As the person approached, Hongjoong began messing with the pulley system attached to the roof of the building, lowering a beat up metal bucket to the ground below.
The moped came to a stop and the rider pulled out a plastic bag, placing it in the bucket before Hongjoong raised it.
"Is that Yeosang?"
"I think so."
The driver, who you assumed to be Yeosang got back onto the scooter and took off towards his next destination.
Hongjoong removed the plastic bag, carelessly tossing it aside as he opened the styrofoam takeout container. Inside was a single Cheongyang chili pepper.
Your brows furrowed in perplexmxent, wondering why Yeosang would bring you something like that. Hongjoong removed the paper from the container and examined it briefly. Glancing around, he broke open the green chili pepper, pulling out a rolled up note that had been put inside.
"What it is?" You inquired, watching as he unraveled it.
"It's time."
𝐌𝐈𝐍𝐆𝐈 | 민기
The atmosphere in the dim Chili Peppers bar was filled with the sound of low murmuring from the few patrons it housed, the occasional sound of clinking glasses or pool being played accompanied the low conversations. You pressed the corners of the wrinkled paper to the wall, hanging a new wanted poster, this one bigger than the ones that already hung there. Most of them depicted the same man while others showed images of a few other fugitives who were believed to run in the same group. The only thing that was different from the rest was that any poster that showed this particular man said DEAD OR ALIVE in large letters. You weren't exactly sure as to why this man was wanted, but you heard whispers throughout the city that he looted local businesses in the area and sometimes traveled with a group of other fugitives. Some even say he runs with the masked men in fedoras, but you're not sure—this town talks a lot.
The wooden doors of the saloon squeaked as they were pushed open by a strong force. A tall figure stepped into the establishment, all of the attention drawn to him, the chatter in the bar coming to an abrupt stop. Every patron in the saloon had their heads directed towards the stranger, their eyes following him across the room. He wore a large hat that blocked his face, keeping his head low as he approached the bar you stood behind. You took note of the large shotgun strapped to his back, not thinking too much of it, as quite a few people around here carried weapons with them.
"How can I help you?" You asked, leaning on the wooden bar top.
"Why else do you think I came to this bar?" The man responded, his voice low and incredibly deep.
"Not everybody comes into this bar to drink, you know."
"Soju." He responded, taking a seat on one of the stools.
Reaching underneath the bar, you grabbed a shot glass and a cold bottle of soju from the mini fridge. Cracking open the alcohol, you poured the clear liquid into a shot glass, sliding it over to the man. His gloved hand reached out and lifted the shot to his lips, downing it just as quickly as you had poured it. He slammed the glass down onto the counter with his head hanging low. It was only when he raised his head that you got a clear look at his face.
First, you noticed his strikingly handsome features, then instant recognition. This was the man from the wanted poster.
You opened your mouth to speak, but your voice was stuck in your throat as he stood up, pulling his long, leather coat back to flash the gun sitting in a holster on his hip.
"When I turn around, duck under the bar." He instructed lowly.
What? Is what you wanted to say, but you didn't have time as he spun around, pulling the gun out.
You dropped to the floor and covered your head as the sound of gunshots rang out above you, some stray bullets hitting the bottles of alcohol displayed behind the counter, the shattered glass falling onto you, liquor splashing onto the wooden boards of the floor.
You didn't even have time to consider wether you trusted this stranger or not, yet you did exactly as he said without a second thought. Then again, it was the only thing you knew to do when you saw him draw his weapon.
A thump sounded from above you, the noise drawing your attention. The man now stood on  the bar holding the shotgun that was previously strapped to his back, firing the weapon mercilessly. Based on the heavy thuds you heard after every shot, he was good.
"Alright. It's safe. You can come out now."
Deciding to peek out from your hiding spot, you slowly stood up, peering over the bar top. Bodies littered the floor, tables were overturned, and shell casings were scattered everywhere. Your eyes were blown wide in surprise as you took in the scene before you. The stranger hopped down off the bar, landing behind the counter with you. You unconsciously took a step back, still wary of the man.
"Who are you?" You asked in a shaky voice, rattled by the experience you just had.
"Mingi."
When you didn't respond, he held his hands up in a placating manner to show he wasn't a threat.
"I won't hurt you. I'm a good guy."
Still skeptical, you studied him for a moment, your eyes scanning his sharp features for any signs of dishonesty.
"I saved you." He added.
"Saved me?"
"Yes. Everyone in this bar was working for the government."
Your expression shifted upon hearing that.
"Strictland is getting tougher on enforcing their rules and regulations. They were going to bring you in and have your emotions taken away."
"What?"
You couldn't believe what you were hearing, shaking your head in denial.
"That's not possible. This is the outskirts of the city. The government has no control here."
"They're trying to."
Mingi could see your breathing start to quicken, a look of fear crossing your features.
"What do I do?"
"You come with me."
"But I don't know you."
"Have you ever heard of The Black Pirates?"
"No."
"They're a group of people who are rebelling against the government and trying to undo what Strictland has tried to enforce. Me and my friends work with them."
So that's why his picture is all over the city. Those other wanted posters are probably the friends he mentioned.
"Trust me, it's best if you listen and come with me." He added.
After taking a few seconds to think it over, you caved and agreed to go with Mingi. It seemed to be your best and only option.
"Smart girl." He commented. "Follow me."
Taking a final glance at the bar that was in complete disarray, you turned your back and followed Mingi out of the establishment. There was something sad about walking out of that dingy bar. It felt like you were leaving a part of you behind. Chili Peppers was a place you had spent a year working at and met many  different people. You were well-acquainted with the regulars and enjoyed catching up with them when they came in. It was a fun job and one that had marked a new start of your life, so walking away from it broke your heart.
"Can I go back?" You asked.
"Probably not. You'll need to lay low."
"Right."
Unable to look at the bar any longer, you dropped your head and moved forward, rounding the corner of the building. It was only when Mingi came to a stop that you lifted your head.
He stood before the side of the Chili Peppers bar, staring at the multiple wanted posters depicting a sketch of his face that were plastered along the siding. Painted in harsh and aggressive black streaks across the posters was a giant Z. Mingi rolled his eyes, letting out an annoyed huff.
"So freaking persistent." He muttered under his breath.
"What's that?" You inquired.
His tongue poked the inside of his cheek in agitation. "He's the one in control of everything going on in Strictland."
You pressed your lips together as a bitter taste invaded your mouth. "I see."
Mingi turned to look at your expression, seeing the discomfort that flashed across your features as unwanted memories more than likely invaded your mind. It was clear to him that you felt ill will against Z.
"We all hate him." Mingi spoke up, hoping to ease your mind a bit. "That's why my friends are here. To get rid of all these rules and laws. This world is... wrong."
"I used to live in Strictland." You spoke up after a moment of silence. "I had to watch my friends turn into emotionless zombies. The android guardians tried to get me, but I fled. That's how I ended up here in the outskirts of the city. I felt safe... until now."
Mingi frowned upon hearing your story. Z and his twisted way of thinking has ruined so many lives. Your story was just a reminder of why he and his friends constantly put themselves in the line of danger and why they needed to continue doing so.
They wouldn't stop until this world was saved.
Your feet dragged through the dirt that lined the streets of the city, your eyes cast downward to stare at your shoes as they kicked up tiny puffs of dust.
"So, where are you taking me?"
"My hideout."
"And where is that?"
"Rooftop of The Goat."
"Rooftops aren't very secretive."
Mingi chuckled softly. "No, but it's the perfect spot to keep watch. My friends and I split off into groups of two so it would be harder for us to be tracked down and possibly caught if the android guardians decide to infiltrate this temporary safe haven. I've been staying in this part of town for a while."
"I heard about a group of people displaying acts of rebellion against Strictland's government and they've never been caught. It seems like they slip away in the nick of time every single time." You paused for a moment. "That was you and your friends, wasn't it?"
Mingi gave a nod.
A short walk through the dusty streets led you to the building with the giant neon sign reading: The Goat shining brightly at the rooftop, the word entrance accompanying the name of the building. It was then that you realized there were no doors.
"Come on." Mingi beckoned, climbing up a set of rickety metal stairs that lined the side of dilapidated building.
With each step, the stairs rattled softly and you hoped they would stay together long enough for you to reach the top.
"Hongjoong." Mingi announced, using his knuckles to knock lightly on a metal pipe as the both of you emerged on the rooftop.
"Oh, Mingi. Hi." A man with vibrant blue hair and cowboy attire greeted while peering through a telescope.
"Any news?"
"Not at all." The man who you assumed was Hongjoong lowered the telescope and pushed it together into its compact form before setting it aside. When he finally turned to look at Mingi, his eyes landed on you.
"Who's this?"
"You know I told you I was going to Chili Peppers to take care of some business?"
"Yeah."
"Everyone sitting in that bar tonight was working for the government. Y/n was the bartender and the only one there with her emotions in tact. They were going to bring her in and brainwash her."
"The government has no jurisdiction here."
"They don't seem to care. You know Z is going to try and get his way no matter what."
"Great." Muttered Hongjoong. "Just what we needed."
Mingi removed his hat and let out a sigh, running his fingers through his short, choppily-cut pink hair.
"This is bad." He said to Hongjoong.
Meanwhile you were left to watch the tense exchange between the two, a sinking feeling in the pit of your stomach. These two and their friends were the only people who could undo all of the damage Z has done to Strictland and here they are, visibly distraught.
"We still have the raid on Prestige." Hongjoong mentioned, making your ears perk up.
"Right." Mingi nodded. "That'll surely light a fire under Z. He won't see it coming."
Hongjoong peered into the distance, presumably where Prestige Academy sat.
"It's just a matter of time." He murmured.
"What's going on with Prestige?" You inquired, too curious to keep your mouth shut.
"We're going to sneak in and break everyone out of their trances. We've got an elaborate plan in place, we're just waiting to put it into motion." Mingi explained.
The government of Strictland was very powerful and this group of, you weren't sure how many people, are out here making big moves in order to save humanity. You commend them for their bravery but at the same time you wondered how someone could be so brave.
"I can't believe you guys do stuff like this."
"We have to. It's what we're here for." Mingi told you, his eyes holding a tsunami of emotions: commitment, determination, perhaps even a hint of fear.
"I'll leave you two alone." Hongjoong spoke up. "If you need me, I'll be downstairs."
With that, he stood up and entered a door that you assumed led to the inside of the building,  leaving the rooftop so you and Mingi could converse in private.
"Have a seat." The pink-haired male gestured to a raised platform resembling the front of a ship with two telescopes set up on it.
He stepped up on the platform, offering you a gloved hand to grab onto, which you did and allowed him to assist you onto the raised surface.
He set his hat aside and took a seat, his long legs hanging off the side of the platform. You followed suit and made yourself comfortable beside him, resting your arms on the metal bar of the railing that lined the ship-like structure.
"So, what's your story?" You asked, gently swinging your legs back and forth.
Mingi's captivating lips stuck out in though while his eyes focused on the buildings in the distance.
"I guess I should start from the beginning."
And so he did. From being brought here by the Cromer to taking the places of the masked men in fedoras and saving Strictland. You stayed silent the whole time and let him speak without interrupting. When he finally finished, a heavy and lengthy silence hung in the night air.
"So, you're not from this world." You said it like a statement.
"No."
"And you agreed to take the place of the men in fedoras just like that?"
"Yes. There's no way we can go back to our old world, especially knowing this one needs saving."
An overwhelming rush of admiration swelled in your chest, as did your respect for Mingi, if that was even possible.
"You and your friends are so brave."
He huffed out a light chuckle. "Yeah, I guess we are. It's weird. When we were told we would have to step up, we did. We did it without thinking."
"Do you ever get scared?"
"A lot. There have been times where I worry our plans won't work or one of my friends is about to get caught. I'm afraid one day, we won't be so lucky."
"If you need an extra person on your team, I'm willing to step up."
Mingi's brows raised, his sharp eyes becoming rounder in surprise.
"I'm not sure what I can do, but I'm willing to help however I can." You added.
"Are you sure?"
Yes, Mingi had just met you but he felt somewhat protective of you and there was a small part of him that couldn't see you get hurt or captured by the android guardians.
"Yes I'm sure." You were adamant in your decision. "I lost the only friends I had to that dictator. He stripped them of their emotions."
Mingi's eyes met yours, serious and searching for more confirmation even though he could see it clearly on your face—there was no changing your mind.
"We need all the help we can get, but it won't be easy." He told you.
"Whatever you need me to do, I'll do it. I'm up for whatever Strictland has to throw at me."
"Very well."
About that time, Hongjoong emerged onto the rooftop with a large sheet of rolled up paper in his hand that you presumed was a blueprint.
"Joong, we've got a new recruit." Mingi informed him.
"Is that so?"
You nodded in confirmation.
"What do you say we fill her in on the plans to invade Prestige?"
"I'm way ahead of you." Hongjoong wiggled the blueprint in his hand, bringing it over to spread it along the ground, revealing a grand plan. "Let's begin."

There's a voice on the roof.
You know because you've heard it echo through the thin walls of your apartment at the same time each morning. It started three days ago, early in the morning when the city sleeps and the guards change shifts.
5:00 A.M.
On the dot.
You thought you might have been imagining it at first. Something as outlandish as singing hadn't been heard in, well, most of your life. Not in any instance without immediate consequence at least. And when you'd asked your neighbors they'd told you they hadn't heard anything of the sort. Then again, they've somehow also never been awoken by the sirens and late-night raids that take place on the streets just below your high-rise. Perhaps if you hadn't been born a light sleeper, you wouldn't either.
But now, as the sound amplifies on the climb to the roof, you're sure of it. There is a voice silkier than anything your mind could possibly fabricate, and the boy it belongs to, high above the world, shrouded in moonlight. He sits on the ledge, legs dangling over the sides, near your bedroom window. His head sways side to side, so consumed in his song that he doesn't notice your approaching footsteps.
"You shouldn't do that." You speak, and the voice halts. Though he doesn't flinch, nor seems the slightest bit startled by your interruption.
"Why not?' He questions.
The boy's dark eyes bore into your own. Tired and cast in shadows that seem to envelop everything around them. There's a blank expression scribbled across his face. Boredom.
Or is it curiosity? That still doesn't feel right.
Maybe indifference.
You can't tell.
"They'll hear you," you point to the streets, where new guardians take post around empty corners and alleyways. There's a chill to the night and you're quick to fold your arms in an attempt to block the morning breeze. "People have been killed for less. If they catch you they'll—"
"Are you going to turn me in?" The boy raises his eyebrows, like he knows you pose no threat to him. In fact, the question feels more like a tease than a presumption.
"I'm just saying, if I can hear you others can. Singing isn't allowed." Though you feel like he should already know this.
"Why?"
"Because, human emotion is the root of the world's—" You begin to regurgitate the same motto you've heard all your life, but the boy holds up his palm.
"I didn't ask you to repeat that jargon they spoon-feed you every day. Why do you think singing is dangerous."
No one's ever asked you that. They've only ever told. But never why, just that it is. Until now, you've never questioned it, and it feels like the boy knows that from your silence.
Tumblr media
He's back the next morning. Same voice, same time, same song, same dark brown eyes. Except this time, his expression is different. He looks amused.
No. Delighted.
Actually, it's almost like a... pleasantly surprised look. Yeah, that sounds right.
"You're back." He says.
"So are you."
"I like the view."
"I live here."
"On the roof?" His eyes widen. "I didn't know rent was that expensive?"
Your brow furrows. "No, in my apartment. Below the roof."
"That was a joke," the corner of his lip turns up. "A bad one, but just a joke."
"Oh."
The boy hums, nodding as he looks back out at the city. "You want to sit?"
Part of you wants to stroll down to the 24/7 corner shop, buy a quality pair of noise-canceling earplugs, and tuck back into bed. Forget about the boy with a voice of gold and continue about your mundane life. But the other part feels an itching so deep in your bones it burrows an uncomfortable pit in your stomach.
So you sit, in hopes that learning more will quell that unbearable feeling.
"I'm Jongho," he smiles.
Tumblr media
You've noticed Jongho has a habit of being vague. Whether it's answering one of your few questions or simply telling stories, he rarely elaborates on where his answers and tales come from.
Like on the fifth night you joined him on his ledge. When he told you of an island he'd once seen. One he claimed to be so full of color, music, art, and dancing he'd felt like he was back "home" for a moment. A fairytale, you're sure.
"—That kind of stuff is actually celebrated where I'm from." He says that a lot.
"Where I'm from." But never elaborates.
"People make a living out of it. That's what me and my friends wanted to do. But that was before..." Jongho's words peter out and his gaze falls to the distant, twinkling lights in the sky.
"Before what?"
"Before here."
There's something in his eyes you haven't seen from him before. You pin it down a little quicker than you expect. Something halfway between longing and sadness.
Whatever it is, it makes your heart hurt.
"Do you..." your eyes search the sky for the right words. "Wish you could go back? To before."
He nods. "Every day. But there are things keeping me here. People who need me. People I love."
"Your friends?"
"Yeah. Among other things."
Jongho's eyes leave the stars and settle on your face. The moon is full, and it's the first time you've been able to catch the warm, brown hue of them. Like the polished wood of a violin you'd once seen in a history textbook.
You hadn't questioned it back then, but now, you wonder how something so exquisitely crafted could be so scorned by those in charge. But then again, it wasn't your place to question such matters.
Right?
Tumblr media
"You should really stop," you say. "I'm worried the guardians will—"
"I thought we weren't supposed to feel trivial emotions like worry?" Jongho grins. You've learned by now that when the corner of Jongho's lip lifts just enough to flash his canines, he's joking. "They might lock you up with me."
"I don't plan on being an accessory. Though I have to say, I will miss your songs." The words taste foreign as they leave your lips and judging by the way Jongho snaps his head to the side, they sound it too.
"Did you just make a joke? Didn't know they taught you how to do that at your prestigious institution." He quips back.
"They teach us a lot of things. Though I'm not quite sure how much of it to believe anymore." Lately, in classes, you've found your mind wandering. Recalling the many stories Jongho's told you and fantasizing about what it'd be like to live in a world with everything yours lacks.
He seems to think pretty fondly of his world. So much so, sometimes you think you're the one who wound up in the wrong world.
"And how does that make you feel?" Jongho presses. It's the most urgency you've heard in his voice since the day you met. It's isn't much, but it's there. Like he's been anticipating this exact moment.
You feel... you aren't entirely sure.
"Conflicted."
Tumblr media
You haven't been able to focus on much of anything lately. A whirlwind of questions, feelings, and fear cloud your thoughts day in and day out. Sitting through classes is suffocating and the watchful eye of the android guardians feels more threatening than ever. Like once glance and they'd see straight through you and reveal the doubt accumulating against everything you've ever known.
Your thoughts alone could land you a one-way ticket straight to The Disposal.
Only when you're next to Jongho, safely stowed away above the city on your little rooftop, does the weight lift from your chest. You're used to hiding all of your emotions. Yet somehow he still knows.
"You seem distracted lately."
You've never felt a need to lie with Jongho. "I think— I feel like life shouldn't be lived like this. Void of emotion and art. The way you've described it, it sounds so beautiful. So human. I just don't understand how it could possibly be a bad thing."
There's a softness to Jongho's gaze when your eyes meet and you swear, you've both somehow scooted closer during your speech. Close enough for your thighs to touch and the air between you to feel thinner.
"Do you think it's still possible to bring any of that back?"
"I do," Jongho says it like he knows something you don't. Then again, you've always felt he knows more than he's shared. "It's easier than you think, so long as we have people like you."
"How can you be so sure?"
"Do you trust me?"
"Yes." No doubt, no hesitation, you do.
His eyes search your face for what seems like an eternity and then suddenly, his palm braces against your knee as he leans and his lips meet yours across the narrow distance. It's short but still leaves a warm sensation that lingers even after he pulls away and floods through your veins.
Your head falls to his shoulder and if the morning wasn't so quiet you might've missed the sigh of relief he breaths out. You can physically feel him relax against you, letting his head rest atop yours. Giving your knee one last reassuring squeeze. Whether it's for you or him, you're not entirely sure.
"Jongho?" You whisper.
"Yeah?"
"Will you sing for me?"

post-bouncy lore! ateez mini headcannon ->
Tumblr media
Lore! Ateez spending so much time apart and interacting so little that after they are finally able to meet again, after the initial hype of meeting their friends again settles in, a new fear blooms inside their hearts as well: what if they don’t know each other like they used to anymore? (obviously other than the ones who they were paired up with). they can’t talk about it either because what if they’re the only ones feeling this awkwardly scared feeling? :((

Okay lets all put our heads together and talk about this - the WILL Outro video
For any Atiny who are not a Loretiny, here’s what you need to know:
There are two universes inside the Ateez context - Universe A and Universe Z (otherwise referred to as Strictland).
Universe A is the one that we are familiar with. It’s bright and colorful and happy. It’s seen is mvs like Pirate King, Treasure, Wave, and Dreamers. If you’re more familiar with their performances, it’s any song that has costumes with color. They softer looks in sweaters and khakis and such. Those are all Universe A.
Universe Z is the alternate universe. Time is funky here and I won’t get into a whole thing about it but it’s reversed. So there is a 12 hour time difference between A and Z. Complete opposites existing at the same time. This universe is dark. There’s lots of broken down buildings and boarded up windows. There are no mirrors or other sources of reflection so the people cannot see themselves and wish to be free. It’s seen in mvs like Hala Hala, Say My Name, Deja Vu, Halazia, Bouncy, and Crazy Form. In this Universe, music and art and all forms of expression are banned. The people all have microchips implanted in them to disable their emotions. The Black Pirates, who we know are in kahoot with the Ateez we know and love, are a group of rebels that are trying to bring art and emotions back through song (very HSM) and disable the microchips. There’s a whole thing about how they got there but that’s not important for this context.
There is a device called The Cromer, which allows Ateez to switch between these universes when the moon is full (which is why we see a lot of moon imagery). When the moon is not full, it does other things that again are not important here.
We know that the Cromer was broken. This happened in Deja Vu when Yeosang broke it to save the rest of Ateez (long story that’s again not important here). Ateez eventually uses the Cromer from Universe A, that is not broken, to get back to Universe Z later.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We see the broken Cromer at the end of Bouncy as well, but this time a little blue bird flies seemingly out of it. There are lots of questions about this Cromer. Is it the original Cromer? Is it the Cromer from Universe A? Why is there a bird? Was it trapped inside? Is that how it works? Is there a significance to the Cromer breaking when the moon is full? Is that why the bird appeared? I don’t know. And the new video cleared up approximately nothing. It shows the bird as it flies around the set of Crazy Form, but without the members. It’s after the events of the MV take place, which we know for sure because it shows the area that Yeosang is seen spray painting.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first pic is from the new video and the second pic is from the Crazy Form MV.
I’ve seen some people as questions about the people in white. But these are students at Prestige Academy. There’s a good bit of lore here but the gist of it is, the Black Pirates are using the school as a place to start their revolution. The school is introduced in the Guerrilla mv. A boy from the school appears. It’s also seen in the Bouncy MV and referenced in the narrative in the Diary version of Outlaw.
There is also a paper and a cube seen at the end.
Tumblr media
The paper is clearly plans for a pirate ship. The questions here lie solely on when this all takes place. As we know Ateez has all of their lore all mapped out. It’s is all carefully planned, meaning when they release new content, it’s not necessarily in chronological order. We’ve seen them release things out of order before. There’s no real way to know until we get what comes next. So the question of what is the ship for, relies on when this takes place. If it’s earlier in the timeline, then we have seen the ship in action. If it’s later in the timeline, then it could be replacing the old ship.
The cube is a little more confusing. I’ve seen some people say that it’s probably the same cube that is seen in the Dreamers mv.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Except now it’s red. Red is not a good color in the Ateez world. So what does it mean and what does it do? Dreamers takes place in Universe A, but we are in Universe Z now. Is it a different color because it is a different universe? Is it a different color because it’s been activated? What sort of abilities does the cube have? Is it related to the Cromer or is it separate?
I don’t know.
Thoughts?? Please anyone what are you thinking??
Even if you’re not a designated Loretiny, I’d still love to hear what you’re thinking. Or you can Reblog so other Atiny can see this.
I need answers!!!!

alright.
I've been listening to Dune on repeat(actually I've been listening to the whole album on repeat). Yeosang's voice and Mingi's part has me in a chokehold. “Broken lights, panic. Tied up in chains. You could be my doll.” I legit squeaked the first time I heard that.
That's it, I just needed to vent about this because I'm going fERAL. I'm also here again requesting more fanfiction please and thank you. (I'm being serious, pls tag me!)

⛓️
“Why are you helping me?”
That was his third time asking you but, you were still busy finding a way to break the chains. Frustratingly, tugging the hairs behind your ears, you began to search around the destroyed arena. A metal rod hit against your ankle and you whimpered when it scratched deeply. You ignored the stinging pain and returned to pick up the rod. You took it in your hand and felt, it was too heavy but still it seemed more useful than any other object lying around you. Approaching him, he raised a brow at your figure holding a rod in your hand.
“Woah! Wait there. Why with a rod?”
You rolled your eyes, “of course to break the chains and please keep quiet.”
He chuckled but within a blink a glare was sent in your direction, “I know that, you don’t have to say something so obvious. I thought you have a key to the locks. Just tell me why are you here?”
“That’s nothing to worry about.”
You hit the joints of the heavy iron chains with the rod. The chains made clanking sounds with the metal against the floor. You didn't mind anyone hearing you but he was worriedly looking around the dark place to see if anyone had arrived at the location after hearing the loud sound.
“Are you crazy? They can hear us.”
“If you don't keep quiet then they will hear us before we could have run away.”
“And how are you so sure that we can run away from here?”
You gripped the metal rod tightly in your grasp and stared at him but didn’t reply anything.
No matter what you will save him.
The distant source of lights reflecting in his eyes, sparkling brightly. His front long bangs sticking to his forehead and rest disheveled, he was staring at you. Never dodging your gaze on him, he followed your eyes traveling to his black beaded gothic necklaces of various lengths around his neck with a black long V-neck vest with long white back and a black loose bottom pants. Everything was dirty after being locked up in the arena for almost a week. A smirk appeared on his face when he noticed your long stare at his body.
“Do you like the view? I guess you might have liked it more if we have more light. Right?” His tone was clearly indicating his smugness visible on his face. You didn't look at him and proceeded to hit the chains again. There was a crack sound from one of them and he stared between the broken piece and you. He could see a small smile on your face and he nodded to himself but quickly raised his brows when you stared at him.
“I did it.”
Well, he was happy that you could break it but still he didn’t show his true emotions and you quickly returned to break the other chain. You closed your eyes when you felt the burning of your skin in the ankle from the cut earlier. Your wrist was aching with the repeated activity but you were determined to do it, till the end. With a few more hits, finally you were able to break the other chain. There was a metal box beside you, placing yourself on it, the rod fell from your grasp and you took deep breaths.
Between your breaths, still you managed to call out his name, “Yeosang…run…run away.”
He was still trying to pry off the remaining chains which were snaked around his body. When he heard your voice, especially his name from your mouth. He quickly turned towards you. He noticed your exhausted form leaning in the distance. Throwing away the last chain, quick steps took him to you.
He crouched down and stared at you, “why are you telling me to run away. What about you?”
You shook your head before parting your eyelids to find him near you, so close to you. You couldn't believe it when you noticed the worriedness in his eyes. You both were sweating but you were more exhausted than him. The close up view made your vision more clear to notice his red birthmark beside his left eye.
Everything is still exactly the same.
You fought back the urge to caress his face, to pull him into a hug. You inhaled sharply before looking away, “Run before they can find you.”
“But they will catch you here.” he placed his hands on your knees. You bit your lip when you felt him against your skin, the white flared knee length dress was already torn and dirty in several places from earlier the day but at least you made it possible to set him free.
“I can manage on my own.”
“But I can’t manage to lose you…again.”
Your head shot up and your wide eyes stared at him, “again?”
Both of you heard banging of the metal door to your side in the far, your scared eyes glanced at the direction of the sound and quickly looked back at him, “they are here. Go Yeosang. You need to run.”
He retreated his palms from your knees, you curled your fingers at the loss of contact but still you strongly held your gaze on him. So, he would be going away, far away from you. You wiped your tears and looked down at your lap.
A hand suddenly extended in front of you, surprising you when you looked at the owner. No emotion was visible on his face but you could feel him getting impatient with every passing second. He should run away. Wasting a little time would make his chance of running away impossible. You stared at his hand.
“Come on. We are going together. Let’s go fast.”
You shook your head, “No No. This is not possible. I’m not going with you.”
He rolled his eyes before grabbing your wrist and pulled you on your feet. Your protests were only to be ignored by him when he started running to the other direction from the door.
“Yeosang. Leave my hand. I can’t go.”
“Keep quiet. They will catch us before we can run away.”
Your lips curled up at his response. He repeated your words from earlier. Both of you skipped over some old wooden and metal objects lying all around you. The place was dark, only the source of moonlight and tower lights were illuminating all around. The wide arena was lining by a lot of rooms and you didn't know anything about this place so you frantically looked around when you tripped on a broken wooden chair lying down.
“Be careful.” His voice was deep but the caring was felt softly.
You nodded your head and followed behind. Well, you don't have any more options. He was holding onto your wrist so tightly that you were a child who would run away here and there if he let it loose.
Ending up in the very end room, there were shattered pieces of glasses all around the room and it was too dark from the outside. You were hesitant to enter the room but he assured you to be fine and to trust him.
Trust him….
You trust him…more than he can even think of.
There was a window at the opposite wall but it was too high. The fences were all broken and there was nothing that you could climb onto to reach that high. He left your wrist when he started looking around the room. His wrist which still had the heavy metal holes hit against the metal objects and he cursed under his breath. There was an old wooden shelf but it was not enough to climb and it could not be trusted. Still, he pushed it towards the window and placed it just under the window pane.
“Climb up.”
“Me?”
“Just do it fast. They might find us here soon. Come on, do it.”
You again parted your lips to protest when he swept you off the floor by your waist and held you up so that you could easily rest your upper body on top of the shelf.
“Don't sit on that shelf longer. It might break anytime. Just jump on that window space.”
You did as he told you and held the rod beside the window. A sudden breeze hit you on the face, the view of the vast forest before you was a dark and dense area with trees. Are you really running away? With him?
You turned around to see him looking at the door.
“What happened?”
He signaled you to keep quiet. He held a finger to his lips and he moved closer to the door.
“Yeosang…”
“Jump.”
“No. I did so much to save you only for you to tell me to go away without you.”
He reached near the door and glared at you. Why? Peeking outside the room, he could hear some footsteps nearby and he quickly stepped near you. You were looking down at him with teary eyes. You can't leave him all alone.
“We don’t have time. Just jump off.”
“I won't jump without you. If they are catching you then I will be here with you. We will both face this together. Please.” You held your hand towards him, “grab it. Don't leave it again like the last time. We will fight this together.”
“Y/n….”
“Yes. I am here for you, Yeosang.”
With a final glance towards the door, he quickly ran towards the shelf, “it’s you.” he sadly smiled. You nodded and urged him to quickly get on the wood. His first attempt went in vain when his foot slipped and he got a scratch on the knee. He cursed to himself and tried again but the next following attempts were again not a success. But the last attempt was successful when you held his biceps and gripped tightly. But the shelf was losing its balance so he placed his foot beside you on the window space. He was breathing heavily but still you both smiled towards each other.
“You did it, Yeosang.”
“For you.”
You nodded and turned around, “we need to jump.”
You didn't notice but he was still staring at you when he suddenly pulled you in a hug. You missed this hug, you missed his warmth against you, you missed the feeling with him. You missed him.
Retreating himself from you, he intertwined his fingers with yours and held it tightly.
With deep breaths, you both glanced towards each other, “Are you ready?”
“Yes! Always with you.”
You both jumped off the window. You whimpered when you felt the pain in your ankle worsened with the jump and he groaned beside you while rubbing his elbow. “Wow, that was high.”
When he noticed your painful expression, he shifted towards you and held your face in his palms, “is it paining?”
“Yes. I don't think I can run anymore.”
He shook his head when he caressed your cheeks and his eyes wandered around your face when he noticed a few cuts and purple marks, the corner of your lips had dried blood similar to his. Both of your conditions were almost the same. He kissed your lips, catching you off guard.
“I will take you to our destination.”
You were still lost in the thought that he kissed you a few moments before. The feelings of his lips against yours was still lingering on you and you kept looking at him. “But where are we even going?”
“Captain is waiting for us.”
Your eyes went wide with the expectation, “you mean Hongjoong?”
He chuckled and held you in bridal style before standing up, “Yes. Our captain, Joong.”
“Do you think he will let me board his ship?”
Your question made him stop in his tracks. He stared down at you in his arms. You avoided locking eyes with him so you averted your gaze everywhere except on him.
“Look at me, y/n. Please.”
His plea ached your heart when you turned to look at his hard stare on you which quickly softens, “no matter what. He would never blame you. You were never the part of that life which I forced on you one day. You always belonged to this place but, It was me who held you hostage in the ship. So, it was all natural for you to run away.”
“But I didn't want to.” You said quietly.
He again resumed walking. Now, when his ears perked up with some shuffle sounds and shouts from a distance, he was no longer walking. He made a run towards the shore. He knew very well the direction to the secret way to the pirate ship. Wooyoung had taught him all the hidden ways to escape the place but somehow earlier today when he came to save him, he had to run away because one of the guards went inside to keep an eye on the hostage.
You continued when you looked at his frowning face glancing at you often to ask so many things but he couldn't as he was running with you, “I loved being with you. With all of you. You are my only family, Yeosang. I didn’t run away because I wanted to. I did it to save you.” you scoffed, “but still you got yourself caught.”
He remained quiet.
Soon, he reached the shore where the pirate ship was visible and few figures were leaning against the railing of the ship. He put you down on your feet near the plank and was breathing heavily.
“Are you okay?” you asked him softly.
He nodded, “you are heavy.”
You scoffed, “I hit the chains with that heavy iron rod earlier. To save you. I don't know why you let your ass get caught every time.”
“So that you can save me again.”
“Yeosang, it’s not funny.”
He held your shoulders to face him, he planted a kiss on your forehead and smiled, “Thank you. You saved me so many times. I owe you so much. I love you, y/n.”
“I have loved you since the day you called me as your family on the ship. I love you. I really love you, yeosang.”
He again kissed you and this time it was not a quick one. You kissed him back and pulled him towards you more. Tears falling down from both of your eyes. The longing feelings of both of the presence was all visible in the desperation of the kiss.
Someone cleared his throat beside both of you and you quickly pulled apart. Yeosang noticed the person to his side and rolled his eyes.
“Wooyoung.” he groaned when calling his mate’s name.
“Um…you both here? I mean that’s good…but how? Am I seeing things? Are you ghosts?” he placed his hands over his mouth and his eyes were wide.
“Shut up, wooyoung. I saved his ass earlier and now I’m back to my family.”
He squealed and ran towards you before engulfing you in a hug,” y/n…you are finally here.”
“Yes I am.” You said and patted his back.
Yeosang rolled his eyes, “well won’t you welcome me back? I am alive after you left me alone.”
You laughed at their interaction and bicker.
Wooyoung lead the way to climb up the ship and Yeosang pulled you closer to him, “we are back to our home.”
“Yes, we are. Together.”
When you both reached the deck of the ship, Hongjoong and Seonghwa turned towards both of you, “Yeosang?...and y/n.”
The said man proudly walked with you towards him and smiled, “my birdy saved me again.” He placed his hand around your shoulder.
“Really?” Captain asked in surprise but he was thankful.
“I don’t know if I’m allowed back here or not but I’m always by the side of Ateez. Also, I have collected a lot of information about the guardians.”
Seonghwa nodded and Hongjoong chuckled, “if you leave, Yeosang will follow you back. And, we are not mad with you, y/n. you are always welcome back to the ship.”
You looked towards Yeosang who was already staring at you, “Yeosang…”
“Let’s go inside…you are hurt. Let’s talk there while I patch you up.”
You nodded and let him guide you to the medic room.
Entering the familiar room after so many months brought back the memories of you both spending time together in there and you mentally thanked to stumble into the ship that day.
“Did you miss this place?” He was searching for all the things he needed and he cursed when he noticed Yunho had misplaced few things again.
You sat on the bed and nodded, “I missed this place……and you. This room is nothing without you. We have so many memories together here.”
“I never felt the same here after you left. I was again all alone with my own life and thoughts.”
He kneeled down in front of you to patch your leg and he noticed the amount of blood it was oozing out. He did all the step by step process to patch you and when it was done he was about to stand but you held him in place before crouching down in front of him and held his elbow, “ let me do it for you.”
“It’s okay, y/n. Don’t worry.”
“Yeosang, we promised that we will face everything together and that means we will take care of each other too. Now come on let me help you.”
There was a fondness in his eyes and you followed the steps he had once taught you.
When you both were done, you wrapped your arms around him and placed your head against his chest, “what happened, y/n?”
“I can’t believe you are here with me.” He smiled hearing your soft murmur against his bare chest. Your breath hitting against his warm skin and your ear picking up his heartbeat. You closed your eyes to feel the moment. Only with him.
He patted your back before stroking your head, “and this time neither of us is going anywhere. You know why I’m always back home and on my right track with you?”
“Because you can’t save yourself?” You smiled in the end of your question but quickly looked up. He cupped your face, “maybe I can’t but that’s not the point.”
“Then?”
“It’s because you are my little blue bird.”
The bird who always helps him to navigate back to his home. Like a ray of light of hope, you always showed him the hope to return to the family every time and brought the joy. And this time, his bird saved him again but also, he saved his bird from wandering around.

Ateez's Full Storyline Explained - THE MEMBERS (A-World)
Masterlist
This is fully focused on Ateez from the A-World since we don't yet have much backstory on the Black Pirates' individually. Thus far, even all I could gather on their shared history is largely speculation based on the Thanxx MV.
SIDE-NOTE: The majority of their backstory is easily found in their Diary Film which was released prior to the Inception MV. But for further details, look to the Fever Part 1 Diary Entries.
HONGJOONG
BACKSTORY
He comes from a troubled or at least not particularly close-knit family - they all moved away as he grew up, splitting up across the world and leaving him behind
When he was younger, before he met Ateez, he didn't have a dream and struggled to see the worth in life - he tried to please his parents with his grades but otherwise felt trapped in a pointless routine
After meeting Ateez and bonding over a shared love for music and performing, he finally got a dream: to become a star and be seen by his family so he can reunite them
But until then, he sees his fellow Ateez members as his main family
Him, Seonghwa and Yunho seem to have known each other the longest and were regularly performing in the streets as a trio
Tumblr media
CURRENT ROLE
He naturally took on the role as Captain since he was the first in their hideout and brought the rest of them together; additionally, he was also the one to be handed the Cromer by his alternate self
This role was likely also strengthened by Yunho who's been with him the longest alongside Seonghwa, and sees hints of his dead older brother in Hongjoong and thus tends to look to him for advice
In addition to his position as Captain, he'll also fulfill whichever other role is needed for their missions just like the rest of his crew
Frequently displayed character traits: passion, character strength, leadership, cleverness, caution, intuitivity, loyalty, bravery
Tumblr media
SEONGHWA
BACKSTORY
His outlook on music was permanently altered when he witnessed a girl with a 'Be Free' bracelet dance
He was part of the original Ateez trio alongside Yunho and Hongjoong
Tumblr media
CURRENT ROLE
His unique connection to the 'Be Free' girl transcends realities and has allowed the fusion of the currently two biggest known revolutionary groups in the Z-World (see: Will - The World Ep. Fin Diary Entries)
As a result, I would describe his current role as a mediator between Ateez/The Black Pirates and Thunder since he's so far been the most willing to extend good faith toward Thunder and learn about their backstory
Previously, like most other members, he simply took on whichever role was needed for the current mission
Frequently displayed character traits: intuitivity, kindness, trust, loyalty
Tumblr media
YUNHO
BACKSTORY
His older brother died in a car accident after giving up his dream of becoming a musician
As means of fulfilling his brother's dream post-mortem, Yunho wants to work alongside Ateez and establish a successful music career
Yunho admires Hongjoong as a person and artist but also feels he resembles his older brother which surely influenced how he originally viewed Hongjoong and why he's always looked to him for guidance
He, alongside Seonghwa, has also known Hongjoong the longest and used to be a street performer trio with them
Prior to his brother's accident, he spent a lot of time riding around on his motorcycle with a separate friend group
Tumblr media
CURRENT ROLE:
He was the first to establish an emotional bond with Left-Eye, who is still one of their first and closest allies, when they bonded over their shared loss of a loved one and lingering survivors guilt (see: Fever Part 3 Diary Entries)
Other than that, he'll fulfill any role needed, such as utilizing his established ability to operate a motorcycle and whatever else is needed (though it does seem like all of Ateez have learned to drive pretty much any street vehicle since they've arrived in the Z-World)
Frequently displayed character traits: honesty, empathy, loyalty, bravery
Tumblr media
YEOSANG
BACKSTORY:
He comes from a very strict household
His parents, especially his father, had already planned out his entire life and filled his days to the brim with schedules, such as violin practice
As a result, he felt trapped his entire life (like a caged bird) to the point where he compared his upbringing to Strictland upon first arriving in the Z-World (see: Fever Part 2 Diary Entries)
His only escape was studying the inner workings of machines which is how he taught himself the basics of engineering and robotics
He was the last to join Ateez and got in by building them a drone upon their request
Tumblr media
CURRENT ROLE:
He's in charge of controlling the surveillance butterflies seen in Will - The World Ep. Fin Diary Entries which tells me he's still their main tech-guy
This role is also highlighted in Guerrilla when we see him inside the surveillance van
Frequently displayed character traits: self-blame/guilt, self-sacrifice, loyalty, quick thinking, bravery
Tumblr media
SAN
BACKSTORY:
He was forced to move around a lot growing up which left him lonely and isolated
Ateez were his first real friends and he was desperate to stay with them, even when his family already planned the next move
His strong longing for a fixed friend group carry into his current behavior and reflect in his emotional reactions to certain situations, i.e. his immense devastation when they first lost Yeosang, his outrage when he found out Android Guardians burn prisoners' treasured memories
Tumblr media
CURRENT ROLE:
He has no set primary role, so he'll also simply execute whatever part of the mission is assigned to him, such as playing the decoy (see: Guerrilla)
Frequently displayed character traits: strong sense of justice, bravery, loyalty, empathy, sensitivity
Tumblr media
MINGI
BACKSTORY:
He grew up in poverty and with no family left except his grandmother
He's been suicidal since he was young which led to him building up walls that keep others from getting too close
However, he's known Wooyoung since elementary school and Wooyoung's persistence eventually wore Mingi down and they got closer
Since then, Wooyoung was the only one who could make Mingi laugh
Wooyoung was also the one who introduced Mingo to the rest of Ateez (i.e. Hongjoong, Seonghwa and Yunho)
Once all of Ateez had been established, Mingi's grandmother got into some kind of accident which made Mingi relapse and shut down since he felt like he wasn't allowed to be happy while his grandmother was so close to death
His resulting decision to fully depart from Ateez had him call their dreams meaningless, upon which Jongho became enraged enough to lash out and punch him but Yunho intervened before it could escalate further than that one punch
His mental well-being was brought up again when he overheard Left-Eye talk to the Grimes siblings about their lingering hope to fix the state of the Z-World because it led him to realize how powerful dancing could be and how much he'd been letting the past affect the way he sees the world (see: Fever Part 3 Diary Entries)
Tumblr media
CURRENT ROLE:
He has no designated role, but did recently team up with childhood friend Wooyoung to go undercover as security guards at Prestige Academy during their mission (see: Outlaw - The World Ep. 2 Diary Entries)
He unfortunately also got traumatized during another mission when the Prestige Academy boy's brother died right in front of him and he was left to take out a bunch of Android Guardians by himself without time to process what he'd just witnessed (see: Will - The World Ep. Fin Diary Entries)
Frequently displayed character traits: bravery, quick thinking, empathy
Tumblr media
WOOYOUNG
BACKSTORY:
He grew up alongside Mingi and wormed his way into Mingi's life despite the strong walls Mingi had put up
Whenever he feels shy, he'll laugh it off and when he's scared, he'll keep talking until it wears off
He doesn't mind being teased for his habits
He had a strong desire to be a performer but was dealing with intense stage fright until he met Hongjoong, Seonghwa and Yunho at a street performance and they took him under his wing and helped him overcome his fear
Once he became a member, he introduced Mingi who proceeded to join the group as well
Tumblr media
CURRENT ROLE:
He has no set role but the injury he sustained during the first Android Guardian raid they experienced in the Z-World (see: Fever Part 2 Diary Entries), did lead them to finding out about Left Eye's existence and connect with the Grimes siblings who were then the catalyst behind the establishment of Thunder (see: Will - The World Ep. Fin Diary Entries)
Frequently displayed character traits: nosiness/curiosity, playfulness, quick thinking, bravery, loyalty
Tumblr media
JONGHO
BACKSTORY:
His original dream was to become a pro basketball player but a serious ankle injury shattered that dream and made him feel like his life was over
Meeting Ateez became his second big dream
When Mingi tried to walk away from all of them and called their dreams meaningless, Jongho felt betrayed and like his dream was being taken from him and lashed out - he gets reminded of this incident again in the Fever Epilogue Diary Entries
Tumblr media
CURRENT ROLE:
His trauma from his past as a basketball player is further explored in the Fever Part 2 and Part 3 Diary Entries but since then, he seems to have moved on and left it in the past
Like most of the other members, he has no set role and will fulfill necessary roles as needed
Frequently displayed character traits: bravery, commitment, quick thinking, loyalty

there needs to be a fandom for ateez lore.
not for the members themselves as real people but for the FICTIONAL versions found in the diaries.
i need people to start making angst edits and fan fictions about the fictional characters the idols portray in the diaries.
yunho is one of the most tragically emotional characters ever and he’s trapped in an amazing kpop group’s lore.. the character deserves a fandom as well as the member!!
i want people to make strickland-sonas and have head canons!!

THE HOURGLASS
My works are 14+ ONLY. If you’re under 14 DO NOT interact with me or any of my works
Pairing: Pirate!Guerilla!Wooyoung x fem reader
Word count: 7,921
Note: This was the first lore-inspired imagine I ever wrote! There’s so much from Ateez’s storyline in here. I had read through the diary versions of my albums a few months before Guerrilla was released because I wanted to understand their lore better and I was SO inspired to write something after I read it. And so, this imagine was created. To this day it’s one of my absolute favorites!
Tumblr media
It had been months since you last saw them. Your friends. The boys you'd grown so close with over the past year. The ones that felt like home.
They were home.
Then, they disappeared.
Like many other things in your life, they were here for only a brief moment, leaving far too soon. Unlike the drifting people that weave in and out of your life, your eight close friends had seemingly disappeared and you didn't know where they went. It's almost like they vanished from existence. You missed them all dearly, but you missed Wooyoung the most. He was always so cheerful, easygoing, and full of effervescence. Like the others, he enjoyed cutting up and joking around, always messing with you or one of the other guys. You missed that. What you would give to hear one last teasing comment.
Standing alone in the middle of the abandoned metal building you used as a hangout, you reminisced on good memories and stress-free times. A time where you could all forget about the dismal aspects of your pathetic lives and just be in the moment. You found yourself coming to this place often. You weren't sure why, but you found yourself being drawn here, pulled by some invisible force. All you ever did was walk around the empty space, looking back on memories that were now ghosts from the past, haunting you.
Your fingers trace absentmindedly along the dusty lamp that sits atop a stack of wooden pallets used as a makeshift table. A baseball bat lay propped against a stack of crates and an abandoned skateboard sits idly on the dirt floor. The couch and other worn out furniture had been left behind like everything else in the building.
Everything was left as it was, as if time was frozen.
As you moved about the building, you noticed boot prints in the dirt floor of the warehouse, one's that were't there previously. The only people in that warehouse were you and your eight friends, and they hadn't been around for quite some time.
Curiosity got the best of you and you ended up following the footprints outside. They overlapped at some point, first leading to a cluster of boot marks imprinted in the dirt just outside the entrance, then going away from the building.
Judging by the multiple shoe prints outside the entryway, you concluded that whoever the tracks belonged to was standing just outside the door for an unknown period of time.
Someone was watching you.
You continued moving beside the tracks until you arrived at a grassy area where they ended. That's when the sound of leaves rustling nearby caught your attention. Bushes that dotted the edge of the tree line rustled in the wake of someone running through them.
Whoever was in the warehouse had been lingering nearby.
A small voice in the back of your mind told you to let it go and get out of there, but a louder voice told you to run into the woods.
You chose the latter.
Dead sticks and leaves crunched under your shoes as you trekked through the dense undergrowth of foliage and vines, unsure of which way to go.
You nearly trip over your own feet, stumbling to a stop when you spot an hourglass lying in the undergrowth. If you hadn't been paying attention you would have stepped on it. Your head tilted in curiosity as you bent down, reaching for the out of place object.
"Find them."
You sharply stood upright at the sound of the foreign yet vaguely familiar voice that rang out through the air, the hourglass left sitting in the vines and plants. Your head turned. Standing in the distance was the silhouette of a man in a fedora. His face was covered and he was too far away for you to see him well.
Was this the person that was watching you?
"Who are you?" You asked.
No answer.
Turning back to the abandoned hourglass, you recall what the strange man in the fedora just said moments prior.
"What do you mean find th—" You were cut off as you turned back to him, seeing that he had vanished.
Reaching for the object again, you picked it up off the ground, turning it in your hand, watching the sand shift inside as you examined it.
What could you possibly do with an hourglass?
Your fingers came to rest at the top of the hourglass, debating on what to do. These were incredibly strange circumstances and you weren't left with many options. The only thing you knew to do was to turn it, so you did. Your brows pulled together as you rotated the timer, a bright light shining from within it as the sand began to move backwards.
"What the—"
There was a sudden flash of light so bright it stunned you, your eyes squeezing shut in response to the flare.
You landed with a hard thud on a wooden surface, the sound of the ocean reaching your ears almost immediately. It didn't take long for you realize you had somehow been transported away from the warehouse... far away. You lifted your head just as a gun was drawn and pointed directly at you. Your eyes followed the barrel of the weapon, moving up to see who was holding it, your breath immediately catching in your throat when you saw who it was.
There's no way.
"Wooyoung?"
The look on his face was one of disbelief as he stumbled back a bit, unable to believe what he was seeing.
"I can't believe it. I found you." You breathed out, getting to your feet. You wasted no time engulfing him in a tight embrace, squeezing him slightly, silently praying he wouldn't disappear.
"How..." He trailed off. "How did you get here?"
You didn't have time to answer as another voice cut in, making you pull away from Wooyoung.
"What's going on?"
Moments later, San came rushing onto the deck of the ship, his eyes widening in response to what he was seeing.
"Y/n?"
"San!"
More footsteps thumped against the wooden boards as the rest of the boys stepped out, their faces showing pure shock at the sight of you. Clearly, none of them had expected you to show up and honestly, neither did you.
You were so overwhelmed seeing your friends again that tears began to well in your eyes.
"Y/n, is that you?" Hongjoong asked, breaking the long silence that hung in the air.
"It is." You nodded with a smile, your voice trembling. "I never thought I'd see you guys again."
Unable to stop yourself, you rushed forward, embracing them in a hug, happy to finally be reunited.
"I can't believe you're here." Yeosang breathed out in disbelief.
"Me either."
"How did you get here?" He inquired.
"Actually—"
"Is that the Cromer?" Mingi asked before you could finish your sentence. His mouth hung agape as he pulled away from the hug, his eyes drawn away from the group.
"The what?" You questioned, turning your head.
"The Cromer."
A few feet away was the hourglass that brought you here, lying on its side. It appeared to have rolled away from you when you landed.
"Is that what it's called?"
"Where'd you get it?" Wooyoung asked.
"I found it in the woods by our hangout. Some man in a black fedora left it."
All eight boys shared a look that told you they knew something you didn't.
"What?" You questioned, your brows pulling together as you looked around at the group.
"Did you get a look at his face?" Asked Hongjoong, answering your inquiry with another question.
"No. He was too far away."
"Did he say anything to you?" Seonghwa cut in.
"Find them."
The oldest glanced over at Hongjoong and the others, all of them sharing perplexed expressions.
"I don't understand what's going on."
No one said a word as Hongjoong stepped forward, retrieving the fallen Cromer and holding it in his hands.
"Do you guys know what this means?" He asked, turning to the group with glossy eyes, a look of longing and hope on his face. "We can finally go home."
Wooyoung then stepped forward.
"You need to put that in a safe place." He advised almost sternly.
"I will. We don't want them coming after it."
You turned to Hongjoong with a bemused expression.
Who's them?
Wooyoung could tell you were confused about the whole situation, so he decided to step in.
"Why don't we talk?"
"Yeah. That's a good idea."
He grabbed your hand, pulling you to a shallow deck located at the back of the ship where the two of you could talk in private.
Ever since landing on this ship, the only thing you've been met with is confusion, leaving unanswered questions to pile up and swirl around your mind like a violent storm.
Wooyoung dropped your hand, moving to lean against the ship railing, you followed suit, watching him as he stared out at the open waters, a wistful look on his face.
"I thought about you guys a lot." You spoke up, cutting through the silence. "Every day, actually."
"We thought about you too, Y/n. We've been trying to get back."
"What is this place? How did you all get here? Why haven't you been able to get back? Who are these people you're trying to keep the Cromer from?" You asked only a few of the many questions that weighed heavily in your mind.
Wooyoung let out a long sigh as he turned to you. "Y/n, there's a lot you don't know."
"Clearly."
"No." His face became serious, something you didn't often see on Wooyoung. "This is much bigger than you know. Did you not think the man in the fedora in the woods was odd? Or the fact that an hourglass of all things just transported you to a different place?"
"Of course I did, but as soon as I saw you guys, I couldn't be bothered to worry about anything else."
Wooyoung's gaze softened for a moment, your statement pulling at his heartstrings. He missed you so much, probably more than you missed him, however, you've fallen into a world much worse than the one you came from. You didn't know anything about Strictland or the horrible things happening in it.
"The man in the black fedora, we've met him before." Wooyoung finally spoke up. "He came to see Hongjoong."
Your brows pulled together as you processed his words.
"Things were starting to fall apart. Yeosang's parents didn't like that he was dancing, Jongho and Mingi were mad at each other, everything was just crumbling to pieces."
"I remember." You nodded, thinking back on those gloomy times that you tried your best to forget.
"Well, it wasn't long after we kinda split up, Hongjoong was at our old hangout when this man showed up and brought him the Cromer. His face was covered, so Hongjoong didn't recognize him, but he later found out that man was himself."
"What?" You breathed out in disbelief.
How could it be?
"When Hongjoong turned the Cromer, we all came back to the warehouse. We were all together again, but we weren't alone. A fleet of men in white came to attack us. We had to flee and along the way, the Cromer got taken from us. Things have been so crazy since then." He shook his head as he recalled the events that had taken place. "Yeosang... he risked his life for us. We lost him for a while. The android guardians, the men in white, got him and the Cromer we had got broken in order to save us."
"What happened? Yeosang is here, so you obviously succeeded, right?"
"After some time, yes. Yeosang got captured by the androids after tossing the Cromer to Hongjoong. The android threatened to break Yeosang's neck if he didn't get the Cromer, so Hongjoong tossed it over. While Yeosang made his way back over to us, he caught the Cromer and turned it before smashing it on the ground. Hongjoong tried to grab his hand, but he didn't make it."
"So Yeosang was left with those... things?"
Wooyoung nodded, somberly. He admired his friend for risking his life the way he did in order to save them, especially considering the circumstances. However, he hated that something like that even happened in the first place.
"What happened to you guys? Where did you go?"
"The past."
He explained to you that they felt stuck with no Cromer and no way to get Yeosang back. That is, until Seonghwa shared a news article with them about a group going to steal a Mayan relic from a museum—the Cromer.
"So what did you do?"
"We stole it."
You gaped upon hearing this, unable to imagine them doing such a thing.
"Yunho wanted to stay behind because in the past where we were, his brother was still alive."
Your heart ached a little. You knew of Yunho's situation and how dear his brother was to him. You also knew how his death weighed on Yunho and how he carried that grief with him, so you didn't blame him for wanting to stay behind.
"The plan fell through when I tried to get the Cromer from the leader of the group. He had a knife held to my throat and was holding us hostage. That's when Yunho showed up on his motorcycle with his friends and caused a distraction. They helped us make an escape. Unfortunately, the group leader got into a vehicle and chased us, which essentially ended up crashing into the sidewalk."
Your heart sank in your chest as you felt a sense of dread looming over you, being able to assume what happened next.
"Yunho's brother had seen him on TV and left to find him. He was headed to the museum when the crash happened."
A frown pulled at your lips as it clicked into place. Yunho had to experience his brother dying all over again.
"Is he okay?" Your voice came out quieter than you expected.
Wooyoung nodded, which brought you some relief.
"Yunho's brother found his journal and saw where he wrote about him dying. He told Yunho it wasn't his fault and that he needed to move on and stop letting his death hold him back."
"So he got closure."
"He did."
"And what about everyone else?"
"We were able to make a narrow escape and get back to Strictland to save Yeosang."
He told you about the Grimes siblings who had helped them escape their first run in with the android guardians and a man named Left Eye who they were able to recruit, filling you in on everything that had occurred since their disappearance from the dystopian Strictland.
"This place... it's not like our world. It looks the same, but it's not the same—it's much different. The government is trying to control everyone. They're taking away people's biological energy. They have no emotions and there's bans on everything. No art, no music, no singing, nothing. These men in the black fedoras are freedom fighters—guerrillas. They go performing in the streets to help break people from their trances. The people they recruit are part of an underground alliance called The Black Pirates. The men in the black fedoras are us from this dimension and they're the leaders of The Black Pirates. They're rebelling against the government of Strictland and fighting to change things."
"You said the Grimes siblings and Left Eye came with you to the android bunker. Where are they?"
Wooyoung's expression seemed to fall a bit, making you assume the worst.
"When Yeosang was stuck in that glass tube at the abandoned gallery, he saw them. They had gotten their biological energy taken."
You frowned at this even though you'd never met the kids.
"And Left Eye?"
"He lost his right arm, but he made it out."
For some reason, you breathed a sigh of relief.
"So, if the men in the black fedoras are you guys from this dimension, then who was it that left the Cromer for me?"
"It could be any one of us."
"Why?"
"I don't know, but one thing I'm sure of is that he saw purpose in you. You're obviously here for a reason."
"You think so?"
"Yes. He wanted you to find us."
"And I did." You added. "So, now what?"
"You stick with us."
Hearing that sent a tidal wave of relief through you. You'll never allow yourself to be separated from them ever again, especially Wooyoung.
You watched as the rest of the guys moved about the main deck, Jongho and San working to raise a sail. It appeared that they knew what they were doing, most likely having practice over the last few months.
"So are you like, a pirate now?" You asked Wooyoung.
"Sort of." He chuckled. "We've been using this ship to get around. It seems safer this way. Because of that, we've had to learn how to do certain things."
"So, what happens next? Where are you heading?"
"To The Black Pirate's hideout. We sent a Morse code message to Left Eye to let him know we're back and we're ready to fight."
"Fight?"
Wooyoung nodded.
"So, this is a rebellion?"
"A revolution." He responded, his eyes cast upon the horizon where the sun was slowly dipping down into the water. His expression was hard and determined, his brows creased in thought.
This situation was much more serious than you initially thought it was. These boys, your friends who were always smiling when you were together, were willing to fight against these guardian things. They'd changed since you last saw them. Their personalities had been slightly altered from what they once were. Everyone seemed serious and perhaps even more mature.
"You've changed." You commented aloud.
"What do you mean?"
"You've all gotten serious."
"We're just determined to change things, that's all." He responded, his eyes cast down, fixed upon his hands that were clasped together. "Is it bad that I've changed?"
"Well, no. Not necessarily. Considering the circumstances, you all kind of had to grow up and become more mature. I understand, but I'll admit, I was looking forward to seeing all of you happy and smiling. You know, how we used to be when we were all together."
"Sorry to disappoint you."
Wooyoung couldn't help but think about how his personality had changed since coming to Strictland. Had he changed? He wasn't sure.
Perhaps he was still the same Wooyoung and just wasn't in the right circumstances to be as lively and upbeat as he usually was. That's what he liked to think. Even so, did you not like that he had changed? Did it make you feel differently about him?
"Hey!" Mingi's voice cut through the air, catching Wooyoung's attention. "Hongjoong needs everyone in his quarters. We need to discuss some things."
After sharing a brief glance with Wooyoung, the both of you trailed behind Mingi, following him through a doorway that led to a large room. Inside was the rest of your friends, all of them gathered around a table with maps spread across it, the Cromer sitting in the middle.
Hongjoong glanced up at you through a pair of glasses perched on his nose.
"Has Wooyoug caught you up?"
"Yes, he has. I do have a question, though. What happened to the Cromer you stole from the museum?"
The boys shared a look before Hongjoong addressed you with an answer.
"We're not sure. We think it went back to its dimension."
"It just... disappeared?"
"Yes. After we saved Yeosang, we couldn't find it. We know the guardians didn't get it, so we just assumed it went back to its rightful dimension."
The explanation didn't sound quite right to you. How could it have just disappeared? It didn't make any sense. Then again, nothing made sense. An hourglass that allowed you to travel through dimensions? That's wildly illogical, but it's real. The very item is sitting before you and it's already proven it's abilities.
"None of that matters now, though." Seonghwa chimed in. "We have the Cromer now and that's all that matters."
"He's right." Mingi nodded. "Once this is all over with, we have a way to get back."
Get back. Back home. Wooyoung liked the sound of that.
Once everything was back to normal in Strictland, Wooyoung and his friends could return back to the world they came from and things would be better. This time, the group wouldn't split up and he would finally confess to you. He would do everything in his power to make sure you all were happier.
One thing he regretted when first getting brought to Strictland was that he never got to tell you how he truly felt. He was too scared and kept putting it off. One day when I have the guts, I'll tell her. He said that to himself so many times. One day... but one day never came because the group started to drift apart, then they were all brought here to Strictland with no warning—without you.
"Wooyoung told me you're heading for Left Eye's hideout." You mentioned.
"We are." Hongjoong nodded.
"How will you find it?"
"He told us."
"He sent us the coordinates via radio." Yunho told you.
"We'll be safe there." Yeosang mentioned.
"How long have you guys been on the ship?"
"Three days. If my calculations are correct, we have at least one more day of sailing before we get there." Mingi stated.
As night descends upon the ship, the guys decide to drop anchor at a nearby island to rest and make dinner. Turns out, learning how to raise sails and work on a ship wasn't the only thing they learned how to do while sailing.
The fire burned brightly in front of you, the orange glow from the flames flickering across everyone's faces as they sat huddled around it. They'd stocked the ship with plenty of rations and supplies, so you had some decent food to eat as well as plates and silverware to eat with. On top of that, Jongho and Seonghwa had caught some fish for you all to eat that night. Wooyoung was currently cooking said fish over the flames. Yeosang had opted to open a bag of chips stashed on board the ship while he waited for the food to finish cooking. Wooyoung scolded him for doing so, complaining that he always eats while he's cooking and that he'll ruin his appetite.
"You guys have been through so much in such a short amount of time." You commented over the crackling fire. "I can't believe I was off living my life while you were stuck here fighting for your lives."
"It's not your fault." Wooyoung shut you down immediately. "Don't blame yourself, especially for something you couldn't possibly know about."
"Yeah." Mingi spoke up. "It's the worst thing you can do."
You shot Mingi a curious gaze, prompting him to continue.
"Remember that stuff I said about the time we spent together being meaningless?"
You nodded, thinking back on the moment. That was when Jongho threw a punch at Mingi.
"I only said that because I thought I was going to lose my grandma. While I was having fun with all of you, she had collapsed. I blamed myself for not knowing even though there wasn't any way I could have been aware of what was going on. So please don't say stuff like that."
This whole time you thought he truly didn't care about the times you all shared, but it was just him blaming himself for something out of his control.
"You're right." You nodded.
"Come on, guys." Yunho nudged Mingi. "Let's lighten things up."
"Yeah." San grinned. "We've been reunited with Y/n. That should be something to celebrate, right?"
As he glanced around the group, everyone began to nod in agreement. San was right.
It was then that he jumped up and started doing a silly dance to help lighten the mood, which prompted the group's resident dance machine Yunho to do the same. The two began to bust out some dance moves, which made everyone laugh. Yeosang began dancing in his spot on the ground, one hand in the bag of chips he was eating. It didn't take very long for him to finally stand up and start dancing. After taking the fish off the fire, Wooyoung quickly joined the three, all of them doing the same dance move while Yunho sang. You recognized it as the chorus of a popular Korean pop song they used to sing and dance to.
Wooyoung pranced around the fire, the orange glow lighting up his face. You're reminded of all the times the guys had dance practices in the warehouse and the way their eyes glimmered, especially Yeosang's. He loved dancing. He was forced play the violin like his parents wanted him to, but his true passion was dancing. And Wooyoung... he had stage fright, but you were all there to help him get past that. You remembered he once admitted to you that when he got nervous, he thought of you and it helped him calm down. You never forgot that. It stuck with you.
His squeaky laughter fills the air as him, Yunho, Yeosang, and San dance together around the fire, Hongjoong watching with a fond expression.
You're relieved seeing Wooyoung in good spirits, knowing he hasn't lost his spark. He was still the same bright-eyed Wooyoung. The one who wasn't fighting against the government in a different dimension.
Seeing him having fun with the others felt like old times.
"Maybe we could just stay here." You find yourself suggesting before you can stop yourself.
The group goes quiet and the dancing ceases, making you mentally scold yourself for allowing your tongue to slip like that.
"It's too dangerous." Hongjoong said, turning the idea down immediately.
"Yeah. Why would you want to stay in a place like this?" Jongho added.
"I'm sorry. I got caught up in the moment. It's just that we're all having such a good time right now. If we go back, who's to say we won't split up again?" You voiced your concerns aloud.
"We won't split up again." Mingi told you, his gaze sincere. "I'll make sure that doesn't happen."
"Me too." San agreed.
The rest of the guys began to nod their heads, saying they'd all do whatever it takes to make sure you stick together.
"If we can't stay here, then, why not just leave right now? You have the Cromer. Let's just get out of here." You suggested.
"We can't." Yunho spoke up.
"We have to stay. It's what they want." Seonghwa stated.
"Exactly. We have a job to finish and until that gets done, we have to stay. No matter how long it takes." Hongjoong added.
"I see." You murmured, staring at the flames before you as a long silence settled over the group.
"You know, even though we're in a really bad situation, I feel a lot better knowing you're back with us." Yeosang broke the silence, taking a seat.
"Me too." Wooyoung agreed.
"We should eat before it gets cold." Seonghwa mentioned.
Right. You'd almost forgotten about dinner.
Wooyoung plated the fish and helped serve it while San prepared the side dishes, which were just canned goods.
"I promise we'll eat something better once we get to the hideout." He assured as he spooned out canned corn for everyone.
You didn't mind. In fact, you were grateful none of you had to fend for yourselves and find food out in the wild, besides the fish.
After a somewhat decent meal, you decided to take a walk down the beach, Wooyoung offered to come with and keep you company.
You stuffed your hands in your pockets as you walked along the shore, making sure the water didn't get on your shoes.
"Dinner was terrible, wasn't it?" Wooyoung spoke up.
"Not at all. It was a lot better than I thought it would be."
"That's good to know." He glanced down at his feet, watching them sink into the sand with every step.
A sigh slipped past your parted lips, your hands moving up to run through your hair as you stared out at the ship anchored out in the water.
"I feel like I ruined everything." You admitted suddenly. "I just missed you so much. I though me coming here would be a good thing, but it seems like I just walked into something much bigger than myself."
Wooyoung reached over and grabbed your hand, giving it a light squeeze.
"It is a good thing. You brought the Cromer to us." He offered up a smile. "And I missed you too. In fact, I thought about you more than I'd like to admit."
"You did?"
He nodded. "The day we were all brought back to the warehouse and we found out we weren't in our world anymore, I thought about you. I wondered what would happen to you and how you would react if you never saw us again."
"When you guys disappeared, I didn't know what to do. I didn't know what had happened or where you'd gone. It always felt like you had all just vanished, turns out you did." You took in a deep breath. "Even though things are bad here, I'm thankful the man in the fedora gave me the Cromer. If he hadn't, I'd still be wondering where you guys were."
Wooyoung couldn't help but smile. He was overjoyed that you found your way here. However, he cares too much about you and because of that, he didn't want you to get hurt—or worse.
"You should take the Cromer and go back."
His sudden suggestion made you do a double take.
"What? I'm not doing that. You said that fedora guy saw purpose in me and that I'm supposed to be here."
"I know, but..." He trailed off. "What if you get hurt? What if they capture you and your emotions get taken away?"
"I won't. If this gets used, we're using it together." You stared intensely into Wooyoung's eyes, your gaze burning into him in order to convey how serious you were.
You could see his resolve crumble almost immediately as he let out a sigh.
"Alright." He caved. "We'll use it together."
You gave a nod of finality. "Good."
With that, you both made your way back down the shore, returning to the fire, which appeared to have died down a bit while you were gone.
Seonghwa was leaned over on Yunho, both of them looking a bit drowsy. San was stretched across their laps with his eyes closed, appearing to be in the process of dozing off. You couldn't blame them. They've been running, hiding, and fighting nonstop since arriving at Strictland, and after a long day at sea and a nice meal, they're more than likely ready to rest.
Hongjoong stood up, dusting off his pants as he glanced around the group.
"Should we call it a night?"
"Mhm." San hummed, sleepily.
Jongho took it upon himself to put the remains of the fire out as everyone stood up and headed to the small row boats left on the shore, piling in. The boats were rather cramped, because of that, you found yourself sandwiched between Wooyoung and Mingi. Thankfully, the ride was fairly brief, as the ship was anchored just beyond the sandbar.
The members worked to tie the boats to the ship and pull themselves back to the deck.
Wooyoung stepped out of the small vessel and onto the bigger one, extending his hand to you. You took hold and stepped back onto the ship.
"We should figure out sleeping arrangements for Y/n." Yeosang spoke up.
"She can sleep with me." Wooyoung offered almost immediately.
No one argued, they merely nodded their heads and went their separate ways.
The thought of sharing a room with Wooyoung had you feeling a bit nervous, or perhaps you were excited. You weren't sure.
His room was exactly how you would have pictured it: small with a few tiny pieces of furniture and a bed. You knew the rooms would be small, even with your limited knowledge on ships.
"Well, here we are." He gestured before rummaging through the drawers of the tiny bedside dresser. "You take the bed."
"Where will you sleep?"
"The floor."
"Wooyoung, I'm not letting you do that. We can share the bed. I have no problem doing so."
He couldn't find it in him to argue, so he agreed to share the bed with you. It wouldn't be so bad. Wooyoung was a cuddly person anyway... with the members, at least. When it came to you, even though you were close, he found himself being hesitant, not wanting to do anything that would make you uncomfortable.
You were given some clothes to sleep in and a few moments alone to change into them. Once both you and Wooyoung were in your sleepwear, you got in bed. The sheets were rather soft and the comforter brought more warmth than you thought it would. The bed wasn't all that big and barely fit the both of you. Your shoulders were touching, pressed against each other as you both stared at the ceiling.
"Do you have enough room?" Wooyoung asked quietly.
"Not really."
"Maybe we should try something else."
Hesitantly, Wooyoung shifted, turning on his side as he worked to readjust himself.
"Can you roll on your side?" He requested.
You thought nothing of it, nodding and repositioning yourself. It was then that you felt an arm wrap around your midriff, pulling you into a warm, firm chest. An involuntary gasp left you in response. You didn't mean to, but the action surprised you—it also made butterflies erupt in your stomach.
"Is this okay?" Wooyoung asked softly, his voice so close to your ear it gave you chills.
You waited a moment to answer, afraid your voice would give out on you. "Yeah."
It was the only thing you could say.
The ship bobbed with the waves, the vessel creaking every so often as it was moved by the water. You could see the half moon outside through the porthole in Wooyoung's room, a faint beam of moonlight streaming in through the circular window. You found yourself staring at it, trying to distract yourself. Having Wooyoung hold you like this was something you dreamt about for a long time, but now that it's happening, your insides were a mess. You're so very aware of his arm around you and his chest pressed against your back.
Wooyoung had his eyes closed, still unable to believe he made such a bold move. He hoped you couldn't feel his racing heart. Like you, he was struggling to go to sleep, his mind swarming with thoughts and what ifs. He wanted to keep you safe and close, just like right now. If he were to lose you, he didn't know what he would do.
"Y/n?"
"Yes?"
"I have to tell you something."
You turned your head, glancing at him over your shoulder. "What is it?"
"It's really important and I'm afraid if I don't say something now, I won't get to say it later."
A million different things popped into your head at once, your heart jumping in response. The urgency and seriousness in his voice had you on edge. Because of this, your turned around in his hold, moving to face him. The room was dim, the only light in the small space was being provided by the half moon hanging in the night sky outside. Even in the low light, you could see Wooyoung's features, including his nervous eyes.
Sensing his unease, you spoke up, hoping to give him some solace. "Whatever it is you need to say, just say it. Don't overthink it. You know I won't judge."
Wooyoung took in a deep breath, your words bringing him very little comfort, but only because you didn't know he was about to pour his heart out.
"Alright. I'll just say it then. I like you, Y/n."
Your breath hitched slightly upon hearing his sudden confession.
"As in like like?"
"Yes."
This was news to you—big news.
"For how long?"
"Almost since we met."
"I can't believe this." You chuckled softly. "I like you too. In fact, I've liked you for about as long as you've liked me."
"You're joking." He breathed out in disbelief.
"I wish I was."
"I can't believe I waited this long to tell you and you felt the same the whole time." His head dropped as he let out a sigh of exasperation.
You gently put your hand under his chin, lifting his face up.
"At least you said something now. Better late than never, right?"
A small smile tugged at his mouth. "Right."
The room became still after that, a heavy silence hanging in the air, save for the faint creaking of the ship. You could feel Wooyoung's shallow breaths fanning lightly against your cheeks, making you realize just how close you were to him.
"Can I kiss you?" He asked in a quiet voice.
"Yes."
The next thing you felt was his lips on yours. His soft, velvety lips, the ones you've always admired and daydreamed about kissing. Now that you were actually experiencing the moment, it doesn't come close to how you imagined it—in fact, your fantasies about kissing him paled in comparison to the real thing.
Wooyoung's hand now rested on your waist, his thumb rubbing up and down in a soothing and loving manner as he kissed you, his head tilting to the side, slotting your mouths closer together. The feelings you were experiencing in the moment were indescribable. Your face was on fire and your body felt like absolute mush as well as your brain. The only thing you could think of was Wooyoung.
Wooyoung, Wooyoung, Wooyoung.
Your hand unconsciously moved towards his hair, twisting your fingers around the dark strands, tugging every once in a while in an attempt to ground yourself. In response, Wooyoung drew you in closer, pulling you by your waist until you were flush against him. This only clouded your mind further.
"Woo." You sighed against his lips.
"Y/n." He responded, sounding just as dazed and out of it as you were.
He pressed his lips firmly against yours once more before you parted ways, both of you left breathless. You huffed out a laugh, dropping your head on his chest, both of you panting in an attempt to catch your breaths.
"Wow." You chuckled.
"Yeah. Wow."
"That kiss gave me so much energy, I feel like I could take those android guardians by myself."
Wooyoung let out a soft laugh in response, holding you closer. You closed your eyes, wrapping your arm around him. Suddenly, the cramped bed felt much more comfortable with you in Wooyoung's arms.
You woke up the next day with a pep in your step. Wooyoung confessing the previous night was quite possibly the best thing that ever happened to you. The kiss you shared still had you reeling as you moved about the deck.
"Morning, Y/n." Yeosang greeted, appearing to hold back a smirk. "You seem chipper."
"You could say that."
"Did something happen last night?" He questioned.
"You could say that."
Yeosang let out a short huff of laughter through his nose. "I knew it. I can see it on your face. He finally let the cat out of the bag, didn't he?"
You nodded shyly, holding back a smile.
It was then that Wooyoung emerged, stepping out of the crew's sleeping quarters and onto the deck. Yeosang gave a glance at him, then you before grinning and walking away.
Your roommate sauntered over to you, his arms sliding around your waist from behind as he rested his chin on your shoulder.
"Morning, love." He hummed, nosing at your neck.
"Morning."
"Did you sleep well?”
"I did."
You fell asleep wrapped in Wooyoung's arms and woke up still snuggled into him. His sleeping face was the first thing you woke up to.
"You hungry?" He asked.
You nodded.
"I'll go start on breakfast. We've got a long day ahead of us. We'll need all the energy we can get."
After a rather large breakfast, everyone was feeling awake and energized. The ship was set to arrive at Left Eye's hideout later in the day and everyone was more than ready to get there. The wind had picked up, so you helped Jongho and Yunho raise the sails a bit higher, pushing the ship forward.
After that, everyone was able to meander about the vessel and wait until you reached land. Mingi sat atop a crate, watching the waves while Seonghwa busied himself by sweeping trash off the deck. Yeosang sat in the rigging with Jongho and Yunho, all three of them pushing each other every once in a while in an attempt to scare one another. San was on the forecastle deck with Hongjoong, you could hear him singing every once in a while, the wind carrying his voice down to the main deck. As for you and Wooyoung, you were both leaned against the wooden railing of the ship watching the horizon.
"Y/n!" Yunho called.
"Yeah?" You shielded your eyes from the sun with your hand as you glanced up at Yunho who was in the rigging.
"Come up here with us."
"Yeah, it's fun." Jongho added with a gummy grin.
"I don't know." You responded, unsure of wether or not you wanted to be on flimsy ropes with the three of them.
"We won't push you. We promise." Yeosang told you, though you didn't really believe him.
"I'll go with you." Wooyoung whispered. "If they harass you, I'll push one of them overboard."
You chuckled at that, moving over to the ropes and joining the three rambunctious boys.
"Hey, Y/n. Watch this." Yunho laughed, letting go of the ropes, allowing himself to fall back, hanging by his legs, which were looped into the rigging.
You squeaked in response.
"I wanna try." Wooyoung spoke up, doing exactly what Yunho had just demonstrated.
"You're both going to give me a heart attack if you keep doing that." You groaned.
They only laughed, swinging their arms with reckless abandon.
You spent your time hanging out on the ropes for quite some time. Thankfully, no one fell and no one was pushed overboard.
San extended the telescope, peering out at the horizon ahead.
"What do you see?" Hongjoong asked from the helm.
"I see land!"
A smile pulled at Hongjoong's lips. "Fellas, we made it! Left Eye's hideout is straight ahead."
The crew erupted in cheers as both happiness and relief washed over the group. Wooyoung and Yeosang were so excited they started shaking the rigging, causing you to clutch onto the ropes in order not to fall.
You were helping to set up large speakers in the streets, Wooyoung, Jongho, and a couple other Black Pirate members, making sure the cords were hooked into the large spherical speaker.
After arriving on land, the group located Left Eye's hideout where you all made plans on how to make a move against the government of Strictland. This plan included setting up speakers in the streets to play music through in hopes that it would help break people from their trances and being back their emotions.
"This one's done." Jongho said. "Let's move on to the next one."
You nodded, following behind the group, pausing when you saw a familiar silhouette in a shaded alleyway. You would have ran had it not been for the black fedora on the shadow's head.
Giving a quick glance towards the group, you turned down the alley, approaching the man. Once you stood before him, you were able to properly look into his eyes. Like his voice, something about them seemed familiar.
"You found them." He stated.
"Who are you?"
The man brought his hand up and slowly pulled down his mask to reveal the face of Wooyoung.
"You..." You trailed off, unable to finish your sentence on account of the shock you were feeling.
"Yes. It was me that brought the Cromer to you. It was also me who took it."
"You took it? I thought you were trapped with the other men in black fedoras. The ones who look like my friends."
"I was. While your friends were saving Yeosang, my group was able to make an escape. We knew what was coming and I made the decision to take the Cromer from your friends when they weren't looking. I brought it to you and you brought it back to them."
"I have so many questions." You shook your head. "How did you find me? And why me?"
"Your Wooyoung had mentioned your name when they found us trapped in the abandoned art museum belonging to the android guardians. He said he wanted to get back to you. Your friends need all the help they can get and so when I escaped, I went in search for you. It was just dumb luck that you were at the warehouse when I arrived."
"You escaped. Did the others get out too?"
He nodded.
"You have to come with me back to the hideout. We need you."
"No." He shook his head. "They mustn't know me and my team made it out."
"But you guys are the ones who started this."
"And you'll finish it."
"What? No—"
"We're watching you all. There's no need to worry. You're doing exceptionally well."
"What if this doesn't work, though? What if it backfires?" You questioned.
"You and your friends will figure something else out."
"Y/n!"
You turned to see Wooyoung standing at the end of the alley.
His shoulders sagged in relief when he spotted you.
"What are you doing?" He asked.
"I was just talking to..." Your voice faded out when you turned to find the space in front of you empty. The man in the black fedora was gone.
"No one." You added, quietly.
"Well, come on. We've got more speakers to set up."
Giving one last glance at the empty space, you turned and joined Wooyoung, heading down the vacant streets to your next destination.
You almost brought up your brief chat with the man in the black fedora, however, just as you were about to speak, something held you back.
"They mustn't know me and my team made it out."
Your words died on your tongue before they could even come out.
You should do the right thing.
"Were you going to say something, Y/n?" Wooyoung asked.
"No." You shook your head.
He glanced at you for a moment before bringing your hand up to kiss the back of it.
"Come on. Jongho and the others got ahead of us. We need to hurry and get back with them."
"Right." You nodded.
As the two of you went to catch up with the group, you glanced over your shoulder, the man in the black fedora standing idly in the street. He held his hand up, giving you a small wave. You weren't sure if he would see you, but you gave a nod towards him as a way to let him know: "Your secret is safe with me."
