How it all began

It all began back in December 2018. With a 40 hour a week job and a few sports hobbies, I was getting to a stage in my life where I wanted to express my creative side. I was feeling depressed and wanted something new to assist me whilst I worked my way towards a better place.

I decided a new hobby was needed. A hobby that would allow me to express my creativity. Although, I had an issue. Money!! As each month drew to an end I would just scrape by until the next pay check. I thought to myself, ‘What can I do that doesn’t cost money?’ My mind was struggling to come up with ideas. I don’t know about you but when money was tight for me, I personally felt like no matter what I wanted to do, the issue was always money. So it’s safe to say my mind set at this point in my life was creating a negative outlook for me.

A few days later I went to see Mumford and Sons with my Pop’s. As you do at gigs, I took photos... on my iPhone. The set for there tour was insane and the lighting was just incredible. It was a really enjoyable gig and a very special memory for me and my Pop’s.

Later that night I was sat at home looking through the photos. I wondered, ‘Are there editing apps available on iPhones?’ The answer was yes!! I remember watching multiple YouTube videos to find the best editing apps available for free. I also spoke to a couple of friend that had careers in photography. It became apparent that LightroomCC was a rather popular editing app. So I proceeded to download the app. I had no experience in editing photos but I studied music technology at university. I learnt how to use many different softwares whilst studying which has made me quite adaptable to learning and understanding new softwares quickly. Nevertheless, I did a little research on editing photos in general and started editing.

Even though I believe I went over the top and aggressive with some of the parameters when editing my first photo. I still do have a soft spot for the edit. I loved the way the lights bounced off the smoke to create a galaxy like effect behind the band. This photo was the beginning of my journey into learning about basic photography. Each photo I take just inspires me to research more, and learn more about this world that is becoming a hobby for me.

So at this point i’ve edited my first photo. I needed motivation though and that came in the form of an Instagram account. I created an account, named it BeardedBear and uploaded the first photo I had edited and that’s how it all began...
