thinking about how ziggy is afraid of snakes and low-key headcanoning she was bitten by one as a little kid. thinking about younger berman sisters playing together in the backyard, maybe burying a time capsule, maybe ziggy's making mudpies while cindy is gardening.
ziggy moves a rock, disturbing a garter snake that lunges and catches her hand with its teeth. she shrieks and cindy reflexively decapitates it with one forceful downward thrust of the garden spade. startles herself in doing so-- cindy doesn't even squish bugs in the house since charlotte's web made her empathize with spiders. but of course, ziggy is bleeding and that changes everything.
then like ten years later cindy decapitates another threat to her sister with a much larger shovel but unlike the snake, tommy doesn't stay dead.
I was listening traitor by Olivia Rodrigo and the song really fit with Nick and Ziggy (i saw a lot edita of them with this song) but in a way also fit with Alice and Cindy
“I know I never met Cindy. But I don’t think she’d want you to not live your life, especially now that the curse is over. I know I wouldn’t want that for Josh if it were him.”
Deena invites Ziggy on a group trip to the coast. Ziggy is hesitant. But maybe a visit from a certain someone will help change her mind.
Another “How can I make this romcom about Ziggy/Nick?” This time? Heartbreakers!
Ziggy and Cindy are a sister con duo. They specialize in tricking wealthy man. With Cindy playing the virgin goody two-shoes, saving herself for her future husband, leading to quick marriages.
Cindy will fake passing out drunk to avoid the wedding night. This is were Ziggy comes in, luring the groom into a compromising position where Cindy will then catch them, leading to a quick divorce and money settlement.
However, behind the scenes the sisters are falling apart. Ziggy feels smothered by her older sister and wants to go solo. Cindy vehemently disagrees with Ziggy’s future plans, but agrees to let her leave on good terms after one last con to set them up financially for the next couple of years. And the biggest one yet: Actual millionaire Nicholas Goode.
The con turns out more complicated than expected, after finding out that Nick is also the Sheriff. He also shows no interest in Cindy. Ziggy convinces her sister to give it one last try and switch their usually roles with Ziggy playing the bride this time. Ziggy fails at pretending to be the sweet good girl, but Nick is smitten with her true snarky self and they hit it off. Cindy does not like it at all and the conflict between the sisters grows deeper and deeper.
While getting to know Nick, not only does Ziggy start to feel bad about what she is doing, she also starts developing real feelings for him, which freaks her out. Cindy urges her to either hurry and go through with the marriage or cut their loses and leave town. Ziggy digs her heels in and stays, but not moving forward with pushing for marriage.
Meanwhile someone from Cindy’s past pops up (Tommy? Alice?) and says something in front of Nick that makes him suspicious of her and take a closer look into her past...
I’m gonna admit that I do cry a little bit inside whenever I see older sisters in movies—especially when they have a younger sister. It just hits a little too close to home 🥲
Prompted by the question from a friend, my headcanon for #nickziggyday22 is about Ziggy’s nickname.
We all known it comes from David Bowie, thanks to the 1972 debut of Ziggy Stardust, but I figure that one of the Berman parents is the one who really got Christine into the album and the music. Cindy didn’t mind it, but was a lot less enthused than her little sister. Christine on the other hand...she got obsessed. To the point where for a while, Ziggy Stardust became her entire personality and all she would talk about in school.
At some point inevitably, she got mocked for it, and was called ‘Ziggy’ as an insult. She was more than willing to stand up for herself in that moment, but it was Cindy who stepped in and said “So what? At least she knows what she likes. Besides, ‘Ziggy’ is a fun nickname. If she wants to call herself that, I’m gonna be the one to call her it until we’re old and she’s sick of hearing it.”
Thus from that point on, because of Cindy’s unflinching support of her and her interests, Christine went by “Ziggy”, because big sis said it was cool.
Running Up That Hill from Kate Bush doesn’t only apply to Max and Billy from Stranger Things but definitely I can see Ziggy crying to this song thinking about Cindy. 🥺
oh 100%
This song personifies their dynamic literally from both perspectives. Cindy would trade her life for Ziggy, and Ziggy definitely wishes it had either been her instead or that she stayed dead to begin with. These two never fail to make me cry 😢
