Well I’m not quite sure how to explain it.

I’ll set development aside for now. As for making:

Use inspiration from different media/fandoms. Most of my OCs are inspired by different aspects of characters from shows/comics I like reading.

Tho as I stated before, Use a base first, that acts as your beta model and then go about your own way to create the final product.

That’s how I do it. A lot of times I may scrap something from the initial plan, or add something new.

Don’t rush anything tho. This stuff takes time. And the development takes place as you go.

Also make sure you work with stuff you’re familiar with or enjoy. Like: oh! Your favourite God is Dionysus? Ok let’s work around that. Or something like: I like swords let’s give OC a sword, then use references to create a custom sword for OC! Things like that.

You can even use your own self for OCs. Like if you don’t like raisins, ok, Oc despises em too. Or you like Aquariums, sure! Oc loves em too. Self inserting certain stuff isn’t bad.

Same goes for the appearance of the characters. Normally if you wanna challenge yourself or have fun. I do this spin the wheel thing, adding both things I like or things I struggle to draw on the slots. It’s fun and a good exercise to try new things.

For development, idk what to say here. I guess it goes with process. Like you have a small plan for your OC and as you go further with them, development happens on its own. Similarly as before, You add new things or scrap others.
