I admit my imagination of Crowley's look was a bit different when we first got the first photo :D.

I am imagining Aziraphale and Crowley in Jerusalem in 70 CE. Aziraphale is aiding the Romans’ siege (because, God’s plan). It is Crowleys suggestion to smuggle Yochanon Ben Zakkai out in a coffin (because, thwarting God’s plan. Also corpse uncleanness for a holy man). Crowley is with Yochanon’s disciples in the hills outside the city. They watch the Temple burn and they weep. Crowley weeps with them; they are losing their connection to God, as he did in the fall.
One of the assembled asks the rebbe how they will serve God now that they can no longer offer sacrifices. When the answer comes back “acts of loving-kindness will replace Temple sacrifice,” the demon rolls his eyes, and almost immediately sights the unlikely blonde head in the distance. The sun catches it and the halo is visible even to his snake eyes. “Acts of loving-kindness will be repair our severed connection to the One,” the rebbe says again.
There is a stillness as the rebbe’s words settle into the hearts and minds of the men (and one man-shaped being) around him. The demon stares at the halo bobbing around the edges of the mayhem far below, and for the first time in a long time, he feels something a little like hope.

In that beautiful biblical times photo, there is a very faint rainbow on the right
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I did my best to bring it out playing around with adjustments and filters and this is the best I could do
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I don't believe this is after the ark, their clothes are different and Crowley's hairstyle is different. Crowley's clothes do match that picture where the heads are cut off, so it is probably from that minisode. It is a beautiful shot though.

The relevant passage from the book re. Sodom and Gomorrah:
“Come off it. Your lot get ineffable mercy,” said Crowley sourly.
“Yes? Did you ever visit Gomorrah?”
“Sure,” said the demon. “There was this great little tavern where you could get these terrific fermented date-palm cocktails with nutmeg and crushed lemon-grass–”
“I meant afterwards.”
“Oh.”
-
And then they are silent for some time.
(It was the book passage that made me think of them as two gay men in 1990 and not some great ethereal/occult humanist Cold War metaphor. Having that conversation at the end of the AIDS crisis you know. Pretty gay human man of them.)

kind of funny how many people think the Metatron does all the bad stuff when GO’s version of God is canonically a weird mischievous little shit

would you care for a very stupid GO2 meta?
I would like to explain for you, the really dumb joke at the heart of the title Chapter 2: The clue featuring the minisode A Companion to Owls.
A companion to owls seems like a strange choice for a title to this episode, there are absolutely no owls mentioned in the episode, and besides birds being referenced everywhere in season two, why specifically a “companion” to them?
Well for one, these two very specific actors are acting as heroes to this episode.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Why have Peter Davison on “this” episode instead of say, being the bartender in the pub, or a Whickeber street trader?
Because then you don’t get to make this joke in the title of your episode : Aziraphale acts as a helper to both the fifth and tenth Doctors, basically making him a DOUBLE COMPANION. (Companion being the title of the sidekick in DrWho).
But don’t worry they are both BIBLICAL doctors as well.As we all know, Bildaddy the Shuite here is an OBSTETRICIAN/shoemaker.
And if you read the book of job, where the quote “a companion to owls.” comes from in the book of job, you will find that it’s usually interpreted as a metaphor for a doctor’s account of dealing with patients illnesses and death.
A(ziraphale) : Companion2Owls
But to OWLS? Here it is: the dumbest joke in the series. “What do you call two Doctors standing next to each other? Who Who.”
okay you can cart me away now.

I'm a bit confused.
In this bit of promotional material, Prime revealed these six 'Titles':
'The Arrival' 'The Clue' 'I Know Where I'm Going' 'The Hitchhiker' 'The Ball' 'Every Day'
Tumblr media
Everyone assumed that these were the episode titles, however in this showcase of the process of making the opening sequence we get these 6 posters which were meant to display the episodes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
My only conclusion was that the posters that didn't match up were the titles of the minisodes (Blitz, Edinburgh, Biblical) rather than the episodes themselves, is that right?
That is correct.

The Assistant Book Seller
Edit 1 Dec 2023 - added missing information on the "ribbon pattern."
Edit: 3 Dec 2023 - correct information about middle pattern from creator
GABRIEL: Greetings! I'm Jim! It's short for James, but I don't need to keep telling everyone that. I'm an assistant book seller.
I'm sorry. Before I do anything else, I need to apologize for something I need to write further in. I didn't plan to write it, I just kind of bumped into it and, well, I can't ignore it. So...sorry. It's said. Forgive me for what needs to be done.
Tumblr media
Although he arrived with nothing but a cardboard box and Rodney the Stunt Fly, Aziraphale made sure Jim was clothed in appropriate raiment while under his protection. We'll forgive him that he took a step back about, oh, fifty years or so to the 1970's, as Jim's overall look is a nod to the famous old sitcom "Open All Hours." So if he looks a little bit out of place, or, a little bit familiar, even, that's why.
While we are used to seeing angels in overcoats, it's Jim's vest that is the particular feature here. But I will take a moment to comment on the overcoat - not just the colour but its lapels. Aziraphale has obviously given him a colour with an earthly connection and one that indicate that he has bought Jim under his protection, but the lapels look quite neutral, with one up and one down. (Muriel is the same in their Inspector uniform, btw) This is the first indication they are between two things at the moment.
Onto the vest.
There is so, so much work and thought put into this vest! It was a one-off commission for the show, and the creator, Sandy Higgins, has said she is not allowed to give away the final design pattern. I have tried to contact her, and I'm waiting for a reply, so in the mean time I thought I would ask my keen knitter of a sister-in-law about one of the patterns I'm not sure about. "Well, that's Fair Isle knitting," she said, but she knew nothing about the individual line pattern I was interested in. Hmm, I kind of know that already, its in the notes that are guiding me for this meta, but hey, why not do a broader search and see what comes up?
So once I got back home I did. "Fair Isle knitting patterns" hmm...Wikipedia page for starters...what on *earth* is that at the bottom of the page...? YOU ARE. FRIKKING. KIDDING ME!!!!!!!
Tumblr media
"See also: Gumbys"
oh ffs
I am so sorry that needs must make me mention Monty Python yet again, but here we are. And we must mention them, because this link is just too...unbelievably, deliciously good.
If you aren't familiar with the Monty Python catalogue, and don't recognize the mention of Gumbys, they were a set of characters that dressed and spoke in a certain way but the main points to take away were they wore woolen vests in the Fair Isle knitted style and their catch-phrase was - wait for it - "My brain hurts!"
I think we've heard that somewhere before?
CROWLEY: When you first arrived, you said you were here because they were planning to do 'Something Terrible' to you. So you remembered it then. Remember it now. GABRIEL: It hurts to remember. My head isn't built for that.
Right. Now we've got that out of the way...back to the serious stuff.
The colours used in the vest are not your typical angel colours. There is a base of angelic off-white and there are some bits of purple for his royalty around the shoulder area - sometimes you need to look carefully for it. Otherwise it is dominated by vintage shades of red and green. Well. Who's an agent of change driven by love, then?
The horizontal stripe pattern is partly to remind us of the classic biblical robes with stripes that ran along them, much like the style of Crowley's black and red robe in the Job minisode, but is also part of the traditional Fair Isles pattern work. And each row only has two colours, but up around the shoulder area we do see purple start to sneak in as a third colour.
On to the incorporated symbols! I'm going to go from bottom to top.
On the lowest two we feature Crowley and Aziraphale. We have Crowley's demon satyr tail from the Good Omens logo on the lowest stripe - the double-headed arrow.
The next stripe is Aziraphale, with a variation of the classic OXO pattern ("hugs and kisses.") The X is meant to represent his angel wings, and the O is modified to mimic the "o" with a halo in the Good Omens logo. I've highlighted all three in the image on the right.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The third row up is a Sumerian Star pattern that represents one of the flowers associated with Gabriel, the lily. They are supposed to represent the purity of Mary, mother of Jesus, as he had one in his hand when he visited her during the Annunciation.
The row above that is what I believe to be a Byzantium pattern, and is included to show "an Angel's ability to be timeless."
Tumblr media
The next three rows are still under a bit of a question mark as I write this. I plan to come back and edit it in if I find the answer.
The bottom of the three is the Duke of Buccleuch pattern, "to celebrate the long and necessary contribution that the cottage industry of hand knitted items."
The middle one - ? (perhaps you, the reader, know? It looks like a spiralling ribbon if I stand back, but that isn't sparking any connections, either.)
Edit: @noneorother tells me in a reblog (below) that this pattern represents the shoelace from the magic incantation Aziraphale uses "Banana Fish Gorilla Shoelace." So it is ribbon-like! This then points to the Second Coming, as it the shoelace references the end of the book, and the last paragraph of the book references Yeats poem "The Second Coming" as well as the novel 1984. To me it is then also telling us there is a cycle occurring, or a cycle that needs to be renewed. This fits in with some other clues other meta-writers have been picking up.
Edit 2: Turns out none of that was correct - I heard back from the creator herself and it's actually the double-ended satyr tail pattern again! It just seems to make a bit of an illusion of a ribbon or shoelace.
Tumblr media
The pattern below is a modified OXO pattern.
The top one looks like two rams horns facing each other. A hollowed out rams horn can be used as a trumpet, and is known as a shofar in Jewish religion. Gabriel was traditionally known to carry a trumpet.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The ancient meander pattern would be recognized by most people, included as another classic timeless pattern found all over the world. For some it symbolizes eternity and endless flow.
Tumblr media
The wheels here appear to be Michael's ophanim wheels, that would have eyes around the rims.
Tumblr media
The hourglass is to remind us that time is running out. Memento mori - "Remember that you die." It is a major theme in both series.
Tumblr media
Right up high, just before we lose the rest of the vest inside the overcoat, we get a glimpse of a large diamond-shaped icon. I wonder if this is another stylized set of angel wings, like we saw in the Job minisode on Aziraphale's golden collar.
Tumblr media
To finish off the outfit, he is wearing dark gray trousers with sneakers! I'm sure that's so he could keep sneaking up on Aziraphale in the shop, haha. His shirt seems a little too large for him and the tie is knotted too high and is not settled along his centerline. It's all at odds with his previous neat and sharp appearance as Supreme Archangel Gabriel.
I'd like to say a big thank you to @aduckwithears for helping me with information on the vest and finding the creator's other social media sites. You can see their two posts about it here and here.

So, in 2021, someone asked Neil for out of context spoilers and neil answered with 6 adjectives. 6 adjectives, 6 episodes... And since we know the episode names the matching would go as:
Ep 1: THE ARRIVAL - Surprised
Ep2: THE CLUE - Impressed
Ep 3: I KNOW WHERE IM GOING (biblical minisode) - Upset
Ep 4: THE HITCHHIKER (victorian minisode) - Delighted
Ep 5: THE BALL (blitz minisode) - Confused
Ep 6: EVERY DAY - Amazed

Been thinking more about it and the fact that three is one of the most significant numbers in the Bible (along with 7 and 12, of course). Especially topped of by 3-in-1 divinity: God, Jesus and Holy Spirit.
Toting up all the threes I've spotted in Good Omens so far:
3 demons in a graveyard
3 babies in the divine game of Find the Baby
Room 3 - where the Antichrist is given to the wrong parents
3 friends of the Antichrist
3 witches tied to Armageddon 1.0 (Agnes, Anathema & Tracy)
3 witchfinders likewise connected by association (Adultery, Shadwell and Newt)
3 physical objects (sword, scales and crow) delivered and collected by the Messenger
3 shall ride the sky as two
3 different dominions: Hell, Earth and Heaven
3 break-ups/downs between Crowley and Aziraphale - 1862, Bandstand and Bookshop (2 of which have ended when Crowley went somewhere he shouldn't to try and save Aziraphale and rescued a book. Now Aziraphale is somewhere Crowley shouldn't go and the Book of Life is hanging over them)
3 angels turning up unexpectedly in unusual attire at the bookshop
3 minisodes
3 sets of 3 characters being pulled back from death/the grave in said minisodes: Job's 3 children, Elspeth's 3 bodies and the 3 Nazis
There's also significance in the fact that Adam comes into his power in his 11th year, so he's not 12 (ie. one of the other significant numbers and a multiple of 3) and Muriel is a 37th level Scrivener (ie. not one of the multiples or 12 or 3).
There are probably more as well. Lots of tasty little layers of Biblical numerology.

So the thing is.
The thing is.
The Biblical Beard must be from the Job minisode, yes?
I am helplessly delighted at how much our expectations were already subverted, but uh. It’s probably going to get worse. That story is probably also going to break our hearts.
Remember the title sequence, Crowley clicking his fingers and setting a herd on fire?
Tumblr media
Remember the disasters that are sent to test Job’s faith in the Bible? What else do Crowley and Aziraphale end up having to do for their respective sides?
I just—
Look at them.

can you please share a bit more of your thoughts on the spoilers? i haven't seen them anywhere and it would be nice to know them coming from you
hiii tumblr mobile does not give timestamps for asks so idk if this is in regard to the spoilers from the interviews or the screenings but all my thoughts are kinda connected to both so SPOILER WARNING FOR THE FIRST TWO EPISODES OF SEASON 2 UNDER THE CUT LALALALA
I don't even know where to start like. I have been in a state of shock all day because literally everything my friends and I speculated about is real. literally all of it. all of our wildest theories about aziraphale and crowley's first meeting were confirmed by the fans who saw the screening. I have never won this fucking hard and ive won AT GOOD OMENS OF ALL THINGS. 2022 me would be laughing. june 2023 me would be laughing. two days ago me would be LAUGHING. I genuinely think this may be one of the best seasons of tv ever guys
like. do you understand. how much this changes. how our understanding of crowley and aziraphale's dynamic throughout time has been totally flipped on its head. aziraphale approached crowley first. crowley was the one who sheltered aziraphale with his wing. so eden was aziraphale returning the favour. DO YOU UNDERSTAND. AZIRAPHALE FELL FIRST. HE DIDNT TAKE SIX THOUSAND YEARS TO CATCH UP. HE HASN'T BEEN CLUELESS THIS ENTIRE TIME. they've literally been connected this entire time, right from before sides or the concept of evil or hatred or enemies were even invented. of course they'd never buy into the whole "hereditary enemies" thing. AZIRAPHALE KNOWS HIM. HE KNOWS CROWLEY. HE'S ALWAYS KNOWN HIM.
and it doesn't even feel like a retcon. it doesn't feel like we need to ignore a bunch of stuff from season 1 to accept or enjoy the added content this season. it's literally just. more shit to help quantify the depth of their love for each other. their connection over countless millennia. I mean if you go back to the very first scene in season 1, aziraphale literally does a double take when crowley appears next to him. that's him realising who it is. he fucking recognised crowley and freaked out for a second. that's why he didn't hear what crowley said!!! he was processing!!!! AND DON'T GET ME STARTED ON HOW MUCH MORE SHIT FROM SEASON 1 HURTS NOW. AZIRAPHALE PLEADING WITH CROWLEY BECAUSE HE WAS AN ANGEL, ONCE. CROWLEY WANTING TO TAKE AZIRAPHALE AND RUN AWAY TO LIVE IN A GALAXY THEY HELPED BUILD TOGETHER. AZIRAPHALE ALWAYS TELLING CROWLEY NOT TO QUESTION GOD AND BEING SO AFRAID TO DO THE SAME BECAUSE HE KNOWS THAT'S EXACTLY WHY CROWLEY FELL IN THE FIRST PLACE. it's not retconning its just making everything worse!!! azcrow is canon and everything is worse now!!!!!!
the biblical minisode. well. I cannot think about that without having to pace around my house like a person going into labour. I literally stress cleaned my entire house earlier to distract myself from thinking about it. crowley has always always ALWAYS protected aziraphale. always. literally the only reason aziraphale has never killed anything is because crowley has protected him from ever having to do that. crowley's dedication to preserving aziraphale's goodness and allowing him to be his own definition of angelic/holy is the greatest act of service he could bestow upon him and it makes me SICK because him pushing aziraphale to kill adam in 1x06 after all that shows just how desperate he was. both of them realising and understanding at the exact same time that the only person in the universe who really understands them or knows what they're going through is the other, the only person they can rely upon is the other, its just. we've been so wrong. about aziraphale. about the extent to which he knows how important crowley is to him. he's always known. he's just been so afraid. him being prepared to fall to keep doing what he believes is right is so fucking heartbreaking and weve done him such a disservice all these years for calling him naive and mocking him for being slow on the uptake. HE'S ALWAYS KNOWN. HE JUST COULDN'T DO ANYTHING WITH THAT KNOWLEDGE. AND THAT'S SO MUCH WORSE
basically I have never been more scared in my entire life because if they packed this much into the first two episodes and it was deemed tame enough to show ahead of release then what the fuck is in the next four. what are we getting ourselves in for . it's really dawning on me the scope of what this experience is going to be and I simply dont think im going to survive it. again I never expected any of this. this was my definitive "high hopes low expectations" season of tv and it's now it's shaping up to be one the best things I've probably ever seen in my life and. it's cognitive dissonance in its crystallised form. how did we fucking get here.
AND GOOD OLD FASHIONED LOVER BOY??????? PLAYING IN CROWLEY'S CAR AS HE GOES TO MAKE UP WITH AZIRAPHALE?????? SAY SIKE RIGHT NOW THIS ISN'T FUNNY
in conclusion

Day 3: "Laudanum" – Good Omens (Season 2, AU)
What if... Crowley wasn't called back to Hell after Edinburgh? Aziraphale would have to do some baby demon-sitting. As we say in French, « Sainte Patience, au secours. »
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Previous] [Next Day] [First Day] - Don't forget to 💕/ reblog ;-)
Personal challenge: a simple sketch each day
Goal: forcing me to keep things simple - inking, shading, just a few sashes of colour
Improvement pursued: to get the movement, the emotion, finding how to add depth, learning how to leave things barely finished
Max time allowed: 2 hours 2h30 🫣 instead of 8-20 on my previous projects
Today's theme chosen by me:  just a silly AU idea about the Edinburgh minisode. And it’s gone waaaay too far in my head XD
I am pretty sure Aziraphale is doing this voluntarily – because OF COURSE he wants to protect his ineffable “partner in crime”. He might even think it's kinda cute to see Crowley -who has just saved a human from Hell!– so genuine and weirdly happy. BUT after spending a few hours dealing with a five-years-old-like demonic being who can do miracles, I guess even angels can lose a little bit of their biblical patience.

GOOD OMENS SPOILERS BELOW if you reblog it TAG IT DAMMIT. Entire Job Sequence to the Best of my inebriated (thank you Bulleit Bourbon for sponsoring) memory:
It was not entirely clear at the  Brooklyn screening when episode 1 ended; there were no end credits but i think its fairly obvious that Job flashback is the cold open of Episode 2 because the entire audience was a bit surprised when Opening Credits played again right after the first Job scene.
Also note that the Job story is INTERCUT at apparently key moments of the main/present day plot, but it will take a second viewing for me to see exactly what they were going for/getting at. So HERE i am going to try and write the Job minisode IN ORDER without the cuts to present day because it will help my memory.
We open on Bearded (yes that bearded) Crowley about to sacrifice a herd of goats. (note that none of the dialogue is exact, even if i put it in quotes, its just what i can recall; the dialogue throughout is delightful and funny and theres no way i can remember it all nor would it be worth it without the performances).
Aziraphale appears in a golden light from the sky in a “stay thy hand, demon!” type way, dramatic and biblical, before he realizes “o its just you Crawley”; Aziraphale says they have not seen one another since “the flood”.
Crowley shows Aziraphale he has “a permit” to torment Job, God’s favorite human, because Satan and God have a bet to see if Job will curse God. Aziraphale is not happy. He takes the permit to heaven to show the Archangels who delightedly tell him YES, God is allowing blameless and good Job to be tormented by demons in a bet with Satan, but ITS OKAY because of course God will win the bet and reward Job three fold!
Aziraphale is at first glad, then stunned to hear that heaven does NOT intend to raise Job’s children from the dead, however. Job’s wife Sitis will have 7 NEW CHILDREN! Yay! (this is cute as well because Aziraphale appears to be the only angel who understands human birth and that maybe Sitis doesn't want to be pregnant and give birth 7 more times? as a mom with natural births i appreciate this, neil gaiman. the archangels are oblivious to this... they just think thats what humans do: they breed and multiply).
As Crowley in stomping through Job’s courtyard to find his three children, Aziraphale appears to reason with him. Aziraphale appeals to knowing that Crowley doesn't want to harm Job’s children because he knew him as an Angel, to which Crowley is not impressed; he is not an angel anymore. So instead, Aziraphale pivots to “i know you” and references the flood and how Crowley was shocked that God intended to kill the children. Crowley tells Aziraphale, “you do not know me”.
And then the pigeons in the courtyard start baa-ing. Aziraphale waves his hand and the pigeons transform into a herd of goats....Crowley didn't kill them at all, he hid them away. Aziraphale looks at Crowley smugly.
They meet the three children of Job, Ty Tennant plays a flirtatious Ennon who comes on a bit to Aziraphale. Aziraphale explains they are in danger, but the kids are not impressed because “don't you know our father? Job? he is God’s favorite”. Crowley transports all of them to the basement while a storm rages and destroys the home above; Aziraphale realizes Crowley always intended to get to the kids first and protect them from the destruction.
While they wait out the storm, Crowley tempts Aziraphale into eating human food for the first time. Aziraphale resists at first, but we then cut to him DIGGIN IN FORACIOUSLY to some meat, while a smiling Crowley lounges nearby watching him. The kids are annoying them both, and at some point Crowley turns them all into three small lizards. The two discuss how Crowley is not really bad and doesnt really listen to hell, and Aziraphale remarks it must be lonely living as Crowley does. Crowley tell him “not really”
God wins the bet, and give some rambling messages to Job as a prophet (which he doesn't understand or appreciate, he and Sitis just want to know where the children are). The angels, with Aziraphale in tow, arrive to announce Job will be rewarded with three times wealth, and NEW CHILDREN! Job and Sitis are horrified.
Crowley bursts in; none of the angels recognize him, he claims to be a human cobbler (its a pun for some ancient city dont worry about it) and Aziraphale jumps in to call him DOCTOR, a famous obstetrician who delivers babies. The archangels have no idea where babies come from... Aziraphale flatters Gabriel by saying well YOU were there when Eve was “born” youve seen it before.
Crowley understand the cue, and pretends to “deliver” Job and Sitis’ new children by having Sitis pull three ribs out of Job (the animal ribs from the meat Aziraphale was eating) and transforms them into three children (the lizards hidden in Jobs robes turn into his three children).
Michael is suspicious because arent humans supposed to have “babies”, but Aziraphale cues Gabriel to tell them about Eve being fully grown. The kids are confused and almost give away the bit, but Job and Sitis play along. Gabriel turns to Aziraphale and point blank asks : “Are these their old children?” to which a PAINED Aziraphale after a look to Crowley LIES to the angels and says “no these are their new children”
We cut to Aziraphale from afar and behind (the ocean and rock shot) and Crowley comes to join him. Aziraphale is crying. (DIALOGUE THAT FOLLOWS IS NO ACCURATE ITS THE GIST)
A: “Im ready for you to take me”
C:”Take you where?” or “Where are we going” something to that effect, he is amused in a bittersweet way
A: “I lied to the archangels and foiled the plans of God. Im ready to go to hell with you”
C: amused in such a kind way, tells him something to the effect of “Youre not going to hell. I wont tell if you wont”
A: sitting on the rock next to Crowley, still teary, “How can i keep on obeying heaven?”
C: “You will take it as far as you can take it, and youll do it your way when you need”
A: “You said it wasnt lonely”
C: “I’m a demon. I lied”
Gorgeous scene of them sitting together on the rock and cut to black
