How To Tighten Brakes On Bike
Tumblr media
If you're a cyclist, you know that having properly functioning brakes is essential for safe riding. Brakes are the most important component of your bicycle, and they need to be checked and tightened regularly to ensure they're doing their job and keeping you safe. Tightening brakes on a bike is a relatively simple process, but it's important to do it correctly. In this blog, we'll go over the steps you need to take to properly tighten your bike's brakes.
The first step is to make sure that the brakes are properly adjusted. You'll want to check the brake pads to make sure they're making contact with the rim and that the tension is set correctly. If the brake pads are too loose, you won't get the stopping power you need, and if they are too tight, they'll wear out quickly. If the brakes are not adjusted properly, you'll need to adjust them before continuing.
Next, you'll need to check the brake cable. The cable should run through the housing without any kinks or binding. If it's too tight, it won't be able to move freely, and if it's too loose, it won't be able to provide the necessary stopping power. You'll need to adjust the tension on the cable so that it is neither too tight nor too loose.
Once you've adjusted the brakes and cable, it's time to tighten the brake levers. Depending on your bike, you may have either a single-pivot or dual-pivot brake system. For single-pivot brakes, you'll need to loosen the nut that holds the brake lever to the frame and then tighten it until it's snug. For dual-pivot brakes, you'll need to loosen both nuts and then adjust the tension until it is just right.
Finally, you'll need to check the brake pads to make sure they are making contact with the rim. You may need to adjust the tension on the cable again to make sure the pads are making contact. If the pads are too loose, you won't get the stopping power you need, and if they are too tight, they'll wear out quickly.
Now that you know how to tighten brakes on a bike, it's important to remember to check your brakes regularly and adjust the tension as needed. This will ensure that your brakes are always in good working order and can keep you safe while riding.

Abraham Grossman scores himself a "Creemee from a Cop" coupon when he pulled to the side of the road and waited for Detective Kelcey, who is rocking the Patrol uniform today, to safely pass by him on Paddock Road.  Accompanied by his dad, Max, Abraham was also exhibiting "safety first" by wearing a bicycle helmet (and knee pads).  Way to Go Abraham!!!!

We Would Like to Clarify an Error to a Report Posted on U.S. News and World Report.com
U.S. News & World Report posted an article on January 13, 2020 which rated the most dangerous states for cyclists from 2014-2017. “Cape Coral, Florida, was ranked No. 1, with 1,333 annual bike fatalities per 100,000 commuter and four bike fatalities between 2014-2017.” It is obvious that Cape Coral has not had 1,333 annual Bike fatalities as their own report has shown. The article was based on report that was compiled by CarInsurance, org. It is unclear how CarInsurance.org compiled their statistics. The correct number of bicycle fatalities in Cape Coral, from 2014-2017 was 4.
The National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration also compiles statistics on bicycle fatalities. NHTSA, reported 3,193 traffic fatalities nationwide from 2014-2017. It is clear that Cape Coral is not the most dangerous city in the United States for bicyclists with four bicycle fatalities in a four year period.
We attempted to contact Staff Writer Casey Leins about the error, but she has not returned our email.
