Of course it's Bonbon's death that forever changed Napoleon and made him abandon the virtue they both spoke of. The Republic he believed in has killed his love; now Bonaparte will watch it die and slowly kill off what's left of it.

Jokes aside: I do actually believe there is something magnetic and special in their little friendship. How would it all go if it wasn't for Thermidor, would Bonbon and Bonaparte's bond grow stronger, would he dine at the Duplays one day, converse with Maximilien, exchange ideas as he'd come back to Paris from the South? Bonbon's death wasn't indifferent to Napoleon. It's undeniable they enjoyed each other's company, and mutually treasured each other as patriots aswell. I'm curious to know more about their relationship, but the information we have is limited. I wonder if with the friendship they had Bonaparte could become a regular guest at the found family house of the Robespierres.

I'd love to hear the stories of the time they spent together outside of "work"; how the personalities of the two young and passionate men contrasted and completed each other, what non-military plans they could have together.
