i did end up finishing the bullet train novel!! some thoughts (with spoilers guys!!!):
— i have never wanted to punch a 14 year old boy more than the prince in this novel.
— nanao describing tangerine as cute and handsome.
— nearly everything with lemon and tangerine actually i think i dog eared almost every page
— lemons parents!!! i loved that little insight into him
— “tangerines world goes silent”
— when the prince says tan knows a lot about thomas and he smiles to himself a bit
— the way nanao is described as going off the scale when he gets cornered
— yuichi’s parents lmfao i loved them
overall i enjoyed it so much, i enjoyed the certain insights you got into characters and their little differences. i thought the casting of tan and lemon as english was actually very fitting based off the book, i’m not sure why but i definitely was able to get that feeling. nanao was genuinely such an interesting character to follow too he was so so so so so pathetic
i’m not sure i have anything else but wow lmfao i’m glad i took a break from anna karenina to read something more digestible

thinking about ladybug being unlucky but surviving because of how skilled and adaptable he is, and he's clearly always been adaptable but shit it must've been tough for him when he was just beginning in this line of work and he wasn't as skilled. like it's super impressive that he's even gotten to this point, and by that i mean the fact that he's alive at all is insane, not to mention how smart and resourceful and practiced he is. it would've been so hard for him to get here. and then to have gone through so much hardship and finally be at this place mentally where he wants to work through his issues and invest in his health.. man. like i don't blame him for being angry. everything goes wrong for him all the time and it takes a ton of mental strength to learn how to frame that constant disaster as good luck, actually. and ladybug being a lot older in the movie than he is in the book really changes his character for me. he's at the tail end of his career and he's been through so much and he's just learning that maybe the bad things aren't so bad, and well that makes me more than a little emotional i have to say

Listening to Kotaro Isaka’s Hitman trilogy and his ability to create characters has me giggling and kicking my feet. How does he create a more pathetic wet cat protagonist (term used loosely) every single book? What do you mean The Whale’s power is “You should kill yourself… NOW!” I’m only like 30% into The Mantis so I can’t speak definitively of course but WHAT? This man is literally moonlighting as a contract killer but has to steel himself for like 20 minutes standing in his yard covered in ski pants and duct tape to get the hornet nest out of his yard. Three Assassins and Bullet Train both start with a character being like “my loser idiot son, whom I hate” 10 minutes before the loser idiot son in question dies gruesomely. These books are INSANE.

Lemon is somehow even more autistic in the book than he was in the movie
I don't know how else to explain it but HE IS

*walking down the street all cool, with your perspective (that of the camera) being essentially on the ground infront of me, looking up, with "stayin' alive" by bee gees playing in the background*
i literally just want this is it too much to ask for?

Bullet Train has to be the only movie where I watched it before reading the book and enjoyed both. I spent majority of the book reading Lemon and Tangerine’s lines with English accents. The Wolf’s change was welcomed; I immediately thought of Miguel Rojo from Tekken when his backstory came up. I only have two problems with the movie.
Brad Pitt as my baby Nanao/Ladybug? Nah I think they should’ve went with someone else. Maybe Justin H. Min, Manny Jacinto, or literally anyone not Brad.
On one hand I’m fine with Joey as The Prince but her character? Yeah nah. (The little shit was a monster of the highest order but I guess they wanted you to root for her in the movie)
The book has it’s issues too (looking at you crossdresser) and it’s surprisingly less gory.
